THE AUTO DOOR LOCKS FAILED. THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY LOCK WHEN THE DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK. IF I HAVE TO GET TO THE PASSENGER IN THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THERE QUICKLY. ALSO WHEN THE DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM ISN'T WORKING I CAN'T LOCK MY TRUNK. DODGE KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A REPAIR RECALL. WITHOUT A WORKING DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM, IT ISN'T SAFE. I HAVE A HARD TIME OPENING THE PASSENGER DOOR. I HAVE TO REACH VERY FAR ACROSS THE CAR. I DON'T FEEL SAFE NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK MY TRUNK EITHER.
FILLED UP WITH GAS, DROVE ABOUT 2 MINS, SLOWED TO TURN LEFT AT INTERSECTION WITH STOP LIGHT. MY MINIVAN THEN STALLED WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE CAR HAS DIED AFTER FUELING. I REPLACED MY BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR UPON RECOMMENDATION BY LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. DODGE DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAYS "IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM AND BEING INVESTIGATED" AND SAID I NEED A NEW GAS TANK DUE TO A BAD VALVE AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER WHILE DOING THE MAINTENANCE, OVER $1000. I DREAD GETTING GAS AND WON'T LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE KIDS IN THE VAN ANYMORE. IT'S A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN.
POWER LOCKS STOPPED WORKING SIGNAL LIGHTS CAN ONLY BE TURNED OFF MANUALLY BLOWER DEFROST FAN WILL NOT TURN OFF BACK SEAT FAULTY FOLDING INTO THE FLOOR
SMELLED RAW GASOLINE SMELL OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE AFTER RUNNING VEHICLE. OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS ON AUG 23, 2016. LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE ON 8/30/16 AND SAW AND FELT LIQUID FUEL ON FUEL TANK IN VICINITY WHERE FUEL PUMP GOES INTO GAS TANK. LEAK OCCURS WHEN IGNITION IS IN THE ON (RUNNING) POSITION. DID ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH FATIGUE CRACKS IN PLASTIC TOP OF FUEL PUMP, WHERE FUEL HOSE ATTACHES. WHEN KEY TURNED ON AND FUEL PUMP IS PRESSURIZED, FUEL BEGINS TO LEAK THROUGH THE HAIRLINE CRACK. DANGEROUS, AS MUFFLER AND EXHAUST PIPE ARE LOCATED LESS THAN ONE FOOT FROM THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK!! TOOK VEHICLE TO REPAIR FACILITY, WHO DETERMINED FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS LEAKING AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. COST OVER $500 TO HAVE NEW PUMP INSTALLED, EVEN THOUGH THE OLD FUEL PUMP WAS STILL WORKING, THOUGH LEAKING.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE RADIO ABRUPTLY SHUT OFF WITH A LOUD POP AT THE SAME TIME THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER IE: FUEL, SPEEDOMETER AND TEMP GAUGE SUDDENLY DROPPED AND THEN CAME BACK UP TO THERE PREVIOUS LEVEL. THE ODOMETER WENT BLANK AS WELL AND CAME ON AGAIN. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT IT WAS QUITE DISCONCERTING TO LOOK AT THE DASHBOARD AND SEE ALL THE GAUGES IN THE SAME POSITION AS IF THE CAR WAS OFF. Y WIFE HAS TOLD ME THAT IT HAD HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY BUT SHE COULD NOT RECALL THE DATE.
TURNED VEHICLE ON, VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT FIRST, LIKE IT WASN'T CATCHING. UPON SECOND TRY TO TURN OVER ENGINE IT DID FINALLY TURNED OVER AND VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS ON THE DRIVER'S BACK PASSENGER SIDE. INSPECTED UNDERCARRIAGE AND NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO BE FUEL HAD RUN DOWN TANK AND WAS SLOWLY DRIBBLING. THERE WAS A SMALL PUDDLE OF FUEL ON GROUND DIRECTLY WHERE DRIBBLE WAS. THE FAMILY WAS ON THE WAY HOME FROM BEING OUT OF TOWN AND WE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD DRIVE IT HOME BEFORE DEALING WITH ISSUE. ONCE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT HOME I PULLED FUEL PUMP OUT OF GAS TANK AND NOTICED SMALL HAIR LINE CRACKS. THEY APPEARED TO LOOK LIKE DIRT OR DUST HAD JUST SETTLED INTO A "SEAM" OF WHERE THE TWO PARTS OF THE PLASTIC/MATERIAL MET, BUT WAS IN FACT A HAIR LINE CRACK. THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING. THE NEW FUEL PUMP HAS CURRENTLY BEEN ORDERED AND I WILL REPLACE IT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. THE MILEAGE ON THE VAN IS AT AROUND 137,000 MILES. THIS JUST SEEMS TO BE PRETTY IMPORTANT AS IT'S LEAKING FUEL WHICH IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD.
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN THE PAST MONTH, THE ENGINE ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, IT WAS WITHIN A MILE AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK. ON ONE OCCASION, IT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC; I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO COAST OUT OF THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT BEING BROAD-SIDED. SINCE THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, ALL POWER ASSIST ALSO STOPPED, SO THE CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I HAVE SINCE READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS A RELATIVELY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH DODGE CARAVANS, PARTICULARLY WITH OLDER CARS. AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, THE ENGINE MAY SUDDENLY STOP RUNNING WITHIN A SHORT DISTANCE OF THE GAS STATION. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GAS TANK VENTING, AND THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION; IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. THERE SHOULD BE AN ALERT AND A RECALL TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. UPDATED 9/25/15 *LN
THE BATTERY ON OUR VAN KEPT GOING DEAD.THE BATTERY WAS NEW.WE TOOK OUR VAN TO 5 DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS,BUYING PARTS& 3 NEW BATTERIES& WE ARE STILL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.OUR VAN WHILE WE ARE DRIVING GOES IN & OUT OF OVER DRIVE.IT IS LIKE YOU ARE PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL & LETTING OFF,PUSHING&LETTING OFF.THE CRUISE WON'T WORK(WELL IT DOES & THEN IT DOESN'T)THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND IN THE DASH THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE DOORS ARE LOCKING YET THEY AREN'T,THE BACK DOOR WHEN YOU USE YOUR REMOTE,THE DOOR OPEN& CLOSES,OPENS & CLOSES TILL YOU HAVE TO CLOSE IT & USE YOUR KEY SO YOU ARE ABLE TO PUT YOUR GROCERIES IN WITHOUT GETTING CRUSHED BY THE DOOR,THE HANDICAPPED LIFT WON'T COME DOWN WE KNOW THERE IS A SHORTAGE SOME WHERE,YET NOBODY IS ABLE TO FIX OUR VAN!WE HAVE ONE WORKING & WE HAVE PAID SO MANY HUNDREDS OUT FOR REPAIRS & WE ARE STILL WHERE WE STARTED.I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WE NEED OUR VAN OUR SON HAS CP & IS IN A POWERED WHEELCHAIR IT ISN'T LIKE WE CAN JUST RUN OUT & TRADE WE HAVE TO HAVE A HANDICAPPED VAN!YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT SPENDING BIG MONEY & WE ONLY HAVE ONE WORKING IN OUR FAMILY CAUSE I HAVE TO STAY HOME & TAKE CARE OF HIM.HE IS 36 & HE CAN'T WALK OR TALK! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED, THEY SUDDENLY BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE WIPERS TOUCHED AND WOULD SEIZE TOGETHER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER COVER HAD NEARLY DETACHED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE OTHER OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V067000 (VISIBILITY). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,049.
VAN STALLS AFTER FUELING. EVERY TIME YOU FILL UP THE VAN, THE VAN WILL STALL FOR NO REASON. IT WILL RESTART WITHIN A MINUTE OR 2. IT WILL THEN HAVE NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THE NEXT FILL UP. READING REPORTS ON THE WEB, THIS IS HAPPENING ON ALL DODGE AND CHRYSLER VEHICLES EVEN CAUSING SOME TO STALL ON TRAIN TRACKS. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE VAN UNTIL I HIT AROUND 100K MILES. ALL OTHER REPORTS ON THE WEB ARE IDENTICAL. CHRYSLER DODGE SHOULD RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS CRACKED AND CAUSED FUEL TO LEAK OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS A STRONG FUEL ODOR INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A HAIRLINE FRACTURE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
POWER LOCKS MALFUNCTIONING, LIGHTS GO ON AND OFF ON THEIR OWN, DRIVING AT NIGHT DANGEROUS. SOMETHING WRONG WITH ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS. WORK ONE TIME THAN THEY DONT. NOW MY LIGHTS WANT TO STAY ON OR COME ON RANDOMLY N I END UP WITH DEAD BATTERY. LOCKS DANGEROUS WHEN YOU CAN'T UNLOCK REAR DOOR TO GET CHILD OUT. TURN SIGNAL DOESN'T TURN OFF ON ITS OWN. STALLS AFTER FILLING FUEL TANK. POWER DRIVERS SEAT HAS STOOPED WORKING PROPERLY SLSO, I'M SHORT AND WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO SIT ON TOP OF SIR BAG BUT NOT ALL OF THE ADJUSTMENT FUNCTIONS ARE WORKING PROPERLY. SO CAN'T TILT SEAT INSTEAD I HAVE TO SIT ON TOP OF AIR BAG, AT A WEIGHT OF 129 N UNDER 5 FEET TALL I SURE HOPE THAT SIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYS ON ME
THE VEHICLE STALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER 1ST STARTUP FILL UP OF THE GAS TANK. THE STEERING LOCKS AND CAR ENGINE HESITATES AND DIES. AFTER WAITING COUPLE OF MINUTES, THE CAR WILL START UP AND NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM UNTIL NEXT REFILL OF THE GAS TANK. I NEVER OVERFILL THE GAS TANK. THE PROBLEM IS SIMILAR TO AN EXISTING RECALL ON 19 GALLON GAS TANKS ON DODGE CHARGERS.
MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS A DEMAND. IT STARTED WITH POWER SLIDING DOOR NOT OPENING THEN THE LOCKS WOULD NOT UNLOCK IF I DID NOT SLAM THE SIDE DOOR SHUT THE FLASHERS WOULD COME ON AND I COULD NOT SHUT THEM OFF THE REAR WINDOW WIPER STARTED MOVING I COULD NOT SHUT IF OFF ALL THE DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND INDICATED I HAD NO GAS. THIS IS A HANDICAPPED MODIFIED VAN AND I USE A WHEELCHAIR TO AMBULATE. I HAVE TAKEN OFF WORK FOR FULL DAYS AND PARTIAL DAYS TO GET THIS PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. AFTER A $2,488 DOLLAR BILL TO EXCISE THE DEMAND THE DOOR STILL WILL NOT OPEN AND THE WHEELCHAIR RAMP WILL NOT DEPLOY. I HAVE TO WORK AND I AM ALMOST OUT OF LEAVE. DODGE SHOULD COME TO THE RESCUE AND ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COMPUTER PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO HAVE THE COMPUTER PROGRAM PATCH TO ALL OWNERS. MY PROBLEMS STARTED AT 38,000 MILES.
SIGNIFICANT RUSTING HAS SPREAD ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL CORNER PANEL AND BENEATH THE SLIDING DOOR ROCKER PANEL, LEAVING LARGE AREAS OF VISIBLE RUST AND MISSING PAINT, AS WELL AS REVEALING ERODED/CHIPPED CHUNKS OF METAL OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. MULTIPLE BODY SHOP EXAMS HAVE SHOWN THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS ORIGINATED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, LEAVING LITTLE TO NO EASY FIX. THERE IS ALSO MINOR RUSTING OF THE SAME SORT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VAN AS WELL. EXPERT CONSULTANTS HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS DAMAGE MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS HAZARD IF/WHEN THE ROCKER OR PANEL PORTIONS OF THE AFFECTED AREAS DROP FROM THE VEHICLE AND DAMAGE EITHER OF THE REAR TIRES. THIS ALSO POSES A RISK TO ANY TRAFFIC THAT MAY BE TRAILING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME PARTS SEPARATING DUE TO RUST. INDEPENDENT RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CHRYSLER HAS REMOVED CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS, SUCH AS GALVANIZATION, AS DESIGN-TO-COST MEASURES THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCREASE IN THESE PROBLEMS IN THE FIELD. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL, AND IF NOT, THEN A CLASS ACTION SUIT SHOULD BE PURSUED TO HOLD CHRYSLER RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE WELL KNOWN DESIGN DEFICIENCIES.
THE 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY HAVE A KNOWN SOFTWARE BUG FOR THE BODY CONTROL MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE POWER LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE. ONCE THIS OCCURS ON YOUR VEHICLE, THE OWNER IS UNABLE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE REMOTELY OR FROM THE POWER LOCK SWITCH OR WHEN THE VEHICLE EXCEEDS 10 MPH AUTO LOCK FEATURE. KNOWN SERVICE BULLETINS ARE: 08-028-05 AND 08-040-04 TO PERMANENTLY FIX THIS ISSUE WITH THE LOCKS THE OWNER CAN TEMPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM BY PULLING THE POWER TO THE VEHICLE AND LETTING TEH BODY CONTROL MODULE RESET. THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX AS THE PROBLEM HAS RE-OCCURRED 3 TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL ISSUE CAME UP. THE PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS KNOWN SOFTWARE ISSUE RESULTS IN THE CONSUMER/OWNER OF THE VEHICLE TO TAKE INTO A DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR A MINIMUM OF $130+TAX. I BELIEVE THIS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE (THE AUTO LOCK AT SPEED DOESN'T WORK), AND IT IS ALSO A THEFT ISSUE IN THAT THE OWNER CAN NOT PROPERLY LOCK THE VEHICLE.
VEHICLE STALLED OUT AT THE STOPLIGHT AFTER I HAD FILLED UP THE GAS TANK. I TOOK THE VAN INTO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE GAS TANK. *TR
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK UP, THE VEHICLE STALLS, STUTTERS, OR SHUTS DOWN AFTER ENTERING INTO TRAFFIC. AFTER IT DOES SHUT DOWN, IT IS TYPICALLY DIFFICULT TO RESTART. THE TYPE OF DRIVING ENVIRONMENT DOES NOT MATTER - CITY/COMMUNITY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. AFTER THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED, WE DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM AGAIN UNTIL THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REFUELED. THE GAS TANK, FUEL FILTER, AND FUEL PUMP WERE ALL REPLACED BY THE DEALER PRIOR TO 100,000 MILES TO ELIMINATED A HIGH PITCHED WHINE COMING FROM THE FUEL TANK AREA EVERY TIME THE FUEL LEVEL DIPPED BELOW HALF A TANK. MOST OF THE TIME, THE VEHICLE DECIDES TO STALL OR SHUT OFF AS WE ARE ACCELERATING TO JOIN TRAFFIC - LEAVING FROM THE GAS STATION. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WE HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND BECAUSE THE VEHICLE JUST STOPS. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM O2 SENSORS HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED WITH OEM/MANUFACTURER STANDARD PARTS.
AFTER REFUELING VAN, STARTED VEHICLE AND PULLED AWAY FROM PUMP DRIVING ONTO THE ROAD APPLIED THROTTLE AND ENGINE DIED WITHOUT NOTICE JUST SHUT OFF. I AM A TECHNICIAN HAVE BEEN FOR A LONG TIME AND HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON MANY DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS THE ISSUE IS THE VENT VALVE ON MY DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ITS BUILT INTO THE FUEL TANK. UNLIKE MY DODGE OTHER BRANDS LIKE NISSAN HONDA ETC.. ACTUALLY TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMER. HAD TRAFFIC BEEN BUSY WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IF NOT KILLED.I'VE READ SO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THIS ISSUE ALL BLAMING VENT VALVE AND I AGREE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND THE MANUFACTURER HELD LIABLE. DODGE ALREADY HAD THIS SAME ISSUE ON CHRYSLER 300 AND A FEW OTHER CARS AND THEY MADE A LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR THOSE FUEL TANKS ITS TIME THEY DO THE SAME FOR THE VANS. *TR
MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN DASH IS CRACKING. IT WILL BE A MATTER OF TIME THE FRONT WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER WILL START TO MALFUNCTION.

I HAD NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE OUTSIDE OF MY CAR A WEEK OR SO BEFORE. MY HUSBAND AND I WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP MY TANK. WE PULLED OUT ON TO A MAJOR ROAD WITH TRAFFIC. THE CAR BEGAN JERKING AND TRYING TO STALL. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WAS FINE. YESTERDAY, I GOT GAS AGAIN AND PULLED OUT WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING. PLEASE HELP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,000.
WHILE SLOWING DOWN MOTOR WILL TRY AND SHUT OFF. IF YOU COME TO A STOP IT WILL SHUT OFF. SEAT BELTS DO NOT LOCK IN PLACE. REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER WILL NOT MOVE. PASSENGER SIDE CARGO DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK. SOME SETTINGS FOR HEAT AND AC WILL NOT WORK. LEFT TURN SIGNAL WON'T SHUT OFF AFTER TURNING. *TR
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER REFUELING. ONE INSTANCE OCCURRED JUST AFTER MERGING ONTO A FREEWAY AFTER REFUELING. THE OTHER TWO INSTANCES OCCURRED IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE FUELING STATION AFTER REFUELING.
VEHICLE STALLED TWICE AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS. FIRST STALL HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET FROM FILLING STATION, WHILE STILL IN A PARKING LOT. THE SECOND STALL HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 0.5 MILES FROM THE FILLING STATION WHILE TURNING FROM A ROADWAY INTO A BUSINESS. EACH STALL REQUIRED SEVERAL CRANKS OF THE ENGINE TO RE-START. WHEN THE ENGINE QUITS, THE POWER STEERING ALSO GOES AWAY. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCE SINCE EARLY 2013, WITH IT BECOMING A REGULAR OCCURRENCE AFTER EACH GASOLINE FILL UP (LATER IN 2013). THE TANK IS ALWAYS FILLED UNTIL THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. IT IS NEVER PARTIALLY FILLED, SO I CANNOT SAY IF IT ONLY OCCURS WITH A FULL FILL UP. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THE SITUATION AND FILE A COMPLAINT. *TR
CLEAR COAT AND PAINT IS PEELING OFF LEAVING RUST ON THIS VAN IT SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS WE HAVE OLDER CARS NOT DOING THIS AT ALL , I SEE A LOT OF DODGER VANS DOING THIS VERY SAME THING.
MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT RECENTLY CAME ON AND IS STAYING ON. *JS
THE LEFT REAR HYDRAULIC GOT CAUGHT IN THE PLASTIC TRIM CAUSING THE JOINT TO COME APART AND THE TAIL GATE FALLS ON PERSON STANDING UNDERNEATH. *TR
ROUGHLY 4 BLOCKS AFTER REFUELING AN ALMOST EMPTY TANK, THE ENGINE IN MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STALLED AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, RIGHT BEFORE A 90 DEGREE RIGHT TURN. BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS QUITE AT NEARLY IDLE, I DID NOT NOTICE THE ENGINE STOPPED UNTIL I STARTED INTO THE TURN. WITH THE ENGINE STALLED THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. IF I WAS NOT A RELATIVELY STRONG PERSON, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STEER THE CAR AROUND THE CORNER AND TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A SAFE FASHION. I DOUBT THAT ANY OTHER MEMBER OF MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE SUCCESSFULLY NEGOTIATED THE CORNER SINCE IT ALMOST FELT LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT AT THE VERY LEAST WITH THE ON COMING TRAFFIC. I WAS NOT SURE IF I MIGHT HAVE DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE STALL AND IT DID NOT REOCCUR, THAT IS UNTIL THE NEXT FILL UP TODAY. FORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT AS BIG A DEAL TODAY AS I WAS DRIVING AT A HIGHER SPEED (40 MPH) AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION AND ALL THAT HAPPENED WAS BRIEF LOSS OF POWER AND STUMBLING OVER A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 1/4 MILE AND THEN RESOLVED ITSELF, WHICH CAUSED NO THREAT TO SAFETY LIKE LAST TIME. HOWEVER IT PROVED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM THAT CONSISTENT WITH 2 REFUELS IN A ROW. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR THESE SYMPTOMS, IT WOULD SEEM THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH 2004 AND NEWER CHRYSLER MINIVANS AND OTHER MODELS, DUE TO A DEFECTIVE VALVE IN THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM IN THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK THAT CAN ONLY BE FIXED BY REPLACING THE ENTIRE TANK AT A COST OF ABOUT $600. *TR
TURN SIGNALS RANDOMLY STOP WORKING AND THEN WORK AGAIN. PROBABLY 50% OF THE TIME. POSES A REAL SAFETY ISSUE FOR MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS. ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT WHEN HAND SIGNALS ARE HARD TO SEE. FUSES ARE ALL GOOD, I'M GUESSING A FAULTY SWITCH IS TO BLAME. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC LOCK SYSTEM ON MY 05 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN DOESN'T WORK, WITH THE KEY FOB OR WHEN PUSHING THE AUTOMATED LOCK BUTTONS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CAR BEEPS LIKE IT IS LOCKING WHEN YOU PUSH THE KEY FOB. HOWEVER, IT REALLY ISN'T LOCKING. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2005 DODGE CARAVAN MODELS. THAT BEING SAID, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP & WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL, BECAUSE THIS IS "NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE." HOW IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? DODGE, THEMSELVES, ACTUALLY CALLS PART OF THE AUTOMATED LOCK SYSTEM A "SAFETY FEATURE." THE SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO AUTOMATICALLY LOCK, ONCE YOU REACH A SPEED OF 15 MPH. WELL, THIS NO LONGER WORKS EITHER. HOW IS IT CALLED A "SAFETY FEATURE" WHEN IT WORKS, BUT THEN IT ISN'T A "SAFETY ISSUE" WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK? I PHYSICALLY CANNOT LOCK THE PASSENGER DOORS MYSELF, WHEN DRIVING. I EITHER HAVE TO REMEMBER TO DO IT BEFORE I LEAVE, MAKE SURE THE PERSON THAT GETS OUT DOES IT BEFORE THEY LEAVE, PULL OVER TO LOCK THEM, OR DRIVE WITH THEM UNLOCKED. THAT'S NOT SAFE! I ATTEND NIGHT SCHOOL & AM NOT COMFORTABLE LEAVING MY CAR UNLOCKED, BUT IT IS NOT AS EASY TO GET INTO MY VEHICLE QUICKLY NOW. I HAVE TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR (ONLY DOOR THAT HAS A MANUAL LOCK), REACH IN, UNLOCK THE SIDE DOOR, THEN OPEN THE SIDE DOOR, PUT MY THINGS IN, LOCK THE SIDE DOOR, CLOSE THE DOOR, AND THEN GET IN THE FRONT. THAT IS A LOT OF EXTRA TIME IN A DARK PARKING LOT! NORMALLY, I WOULD JUST CLICK THE UNLOCK & THE OPEN DOOR BUTTON ON THE WAY TO THE VAN, PUT THE STUFF IN, CLOSE THE DOOR & GO. IN ADDITION, IF YOU ARE A PASSENGER, YOU HAVE TO STAND THERE & WAIT TO BE LET IN. AS MENTIONED, THERE IS NO KEY ENTRY ON THAT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AT ALL. MANY TIMES, I AM LEFT STANDING THERE (WITH MY PURSE), AS MY HUSBAND WALKS AROUND TO THE DRIVER SIDE & LETS HIMSELF & THE KID'S IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
CAR STALLS WHEN I FILL THE TANK UP WITH GAS. THE CAR STALL OUT SHORTLY AFTERWARDS WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ROTOR FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ROTOR, STRUTS, AND HUB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ROTOR, STRUTS, AND HUB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
POWER DOOR LOCKS WERE INOPERABLE EITHER BY THE KEY FOB OR THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK SWITCHES. RETURNED VEHICLE TO DEALER ON 10/07/2014 FOR REPAIR. IN THAT I HAD EXTENDED COVERAGE I HAD TO PAY THE $100.00 CO-PAY. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING RANDOM ELECTRICAL ISSUES INTERMITTENTLY FOR A FEW WEEKS, BUT TODAY, IT WAS NOTICED THAT MY POWER LOCKS ARE NOT ABLE TO BE ENGAGED OR DISENGAGED VIA EITHER MY KEY FOB OR MANUAL BY THE BUTTON ON THE SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S DOOR. THEY ALSO DO NOT ENGAGE ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHES THE APPROPRIATE SPEED. THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK OR UNLOCK THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME, IS VIA THE KEY IN THE DOOR, AND MANUALLY PUSHING DOWN/PULLING UP THE LOCKS THEMSELVES. AS A MOM OF THREE CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 10, HAVING THEM RIDING IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND NOT KNOWING FOR SURE THAT THEIR DOORS ARE LOCKED, CAUSES DISTRESS IN REGARD TO THEIR SAFETY. I NEED TO KNOW THAT I CAN LOCK MY VEHICLE QUICKLY BEHIND MY CHILDREN, IF NECESSARY, AND KNOW THAT IF THEY HAPPEN TO PULL ON THE HANDLE ON THE SLIDING DOORS, THAT I CAN REST ASSURED THAT THE DOORS WILL NOT OPEN IN RESPONSE TO THIS AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TR
WENT TO THE VAN AND TRIED TO LOCK THE DOORS BUT THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT WORKING. I BEEN READING THAT THE SYSTEM NEEDS A UPDATE. WHY DOES THE COMPANY KNOW THAT THE UPDATE IS NEEDED BUT WANT TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF US FOR THEIR ERRORS. *TR

DOOR LOCK SYSTEM HAS FAILED DUE TO COMPUTER GLITCH. FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND ON-LINE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL.
TRAVELING EAST ON THE NYS I90 YESTERDAY, 12:45PM - LUNCH RUSH HOUR TIME, APPROXIMATE SPEED 62 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. PUMPING THE GAS PEDAL, HOLDING IT DOWN TO THE FLOOR MADE NO DIFFERENCE, ALTHOUGH THE RPMS WERE RACING. LUCKILY WE WERE TRAVELING IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE (OF THE THREE AVAILABLE) AND AS I WAS COASTING WAS ABLE TO DO SO ON THE SHOULDER. WE WERE ALSO FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE NEAR AN EXIT AND WE ABLE TO COAST ALONG TO THIS POINT BEFORE WE FINALLY HAD TO SHUT OFF THE CAR, MIDWAY ALONG AN EXIT RAMP, ALONG THE SHOULDER. HAD WE BEEN IN ONE OF THE OTHER LANES DURING THIS MISHAP I PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE IN ANY CONDITION TO FILE A REPORT. VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON A FLAT BED, DRIVEN TO OUR MECHANIC, WHERE IT CURRENTLY IS. I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE AUTOLOCKS ON THIS VEHICLE. OURS WERE FIXED (PARTIALLY) ONCE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR STILL DOES NOT FUNCTION AS IT SHOULD AND NEEDS TO BE LOCKED AND UNLOCKED MANUALLY. THIS VEHICLE HAD NO PRIOR OWNERS, PURCHASED NEW. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 226,000.
UPON REFUELING THE VAN STUMBLE AND STALLS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. WHEN VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKS. NO LONGER IN CONTROL, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS ARE POWERLESS TO AVOID ROADSIDE OBSTACLES AS WELL AS OTHER AUTOMOBILES. *TR
AFTER I FILL UP THE GAS TANK THE VAN STALLS WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. *TR
2005 DODGE CARAVAN SXT STALLS UNEXPECTEDLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND AT LOW SPEEDS SHORTLY AFTER BEING FUELED TO A FULL TANK OF GAS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE OFTEN AFTER THE MILEAGE HAS GONE OVER 100000 MILE. IT HAS BEEN STARTING BACK UP AFTER IT STALLED BUT HAS TAKEN LONGER TO START WITH EACH PASSING STALL. IF I DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY POST WAIT A FEW MOMENTS AND RECONNECT THE VAN WILL GET ME HOME TILL THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE STALLING START AGAIN. AFTER THE GAS TANK IS BELOW 3/4 THE STALLING ISSUE GOES AWAY. IN IT'S CURRENT CONDITION NOT A VERY RELIABLE OR SAFE AUTOMOBILE FOR ANY FAMILY TO BE USING ON THE HIGHWAYS. *TR
I ACTIVATED THE PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR. THERE WAS A POP AND A FLASH INDICATIVE OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND THE DOOR NO LONGER OPENED OR CLOSED AUTOMATICALLY. I INSPECTED THE WIRES AND FOUND THAT TWO WIRES WERE BROKEN AND POSSIBLY MADE CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER, CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSIDE MY GARAGE AT THE TIME AND NO ONE WAS INSIDE. HOWEVER, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION SHOULD THE VEHICLE CATCH FIRE BECAUSE OF THE FLIMSY WIRING ON THE DOORS. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING TWO DAYS LATER, BUT WITH NO POP OR FLASH. I NOTICED SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THERE ARE SEVERAL DOCUMENTED CASES OF THE SAME PROBLEM THROUGHOUT THE WEB. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING. FIRST THE FOG LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF ON THEIR OWN AND WHEN I WOULD PULL ON THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OUT TO ENGAGE THE FOG LIGHTS, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF. I WAS GOING THROUGH A DRIVE-THRU WHEN MY KNEE ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE CUT OFF. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND BUMPED IT AGAIN TO TEST IT, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TRIED IT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AS WELL AS IN DRIVE AND REVERSE AND IT HAPPENED EACH TIME. I RECENTLY READ ABOUT THE GM / DODGE /CHRYSLER IGNITION AND AIRBAG ISSUES, BUT MY VEHICLE YEAR IS NOT BEING INVESTIGATED OR RECALLED. I DEMAND THAT THE INVESTIGATION AND RECALLS ARE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MODELS GOING BACK TO AT LEAST 2005, INCLUDING ANY VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINEERING OR PART DEFECT. *TR
THE POWER FUNCTION TO BOTH REAR SLIDING DOORS FAILED WITHIN THE PAST 18 MONTHS, THE RIGHT REAR SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY NOW. IT WILL MOVE APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES, THEN STOP AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH PHYSICAL FORCE YOU APPLY, THE DOOR REMAINS IN THAT POSITION. SHOULD SOMEONE NEED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY EGRESS FROM THE VEHICLE THEY COULD NOT USING THIS DOOR. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS FAILED. THEY DO NOT LOCK AT 18MPH, THEY DO NOT OPEN OR CLOSE BY BUTTON OR KEY FOB. HAVE DISCOVERED HUNDRED OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. DEALER DATA SUGGESTS FLASHING THE BCM HOWEVER NOT A PERMANENT CURE, DEALERS REPLACING OTHER PARTS IE MOTORS, ACTUATORS WIRING, FRAUDULENTLY TO ALLEGEDLY REPAIR A KNOWN DEFECT IN SOFTWARE OR THE BCM THEMSELVES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUES AND A EXTREME INCONVENIENCE TO DISABLED PERSONS TRYING TO REACH DOOR LOCKS INSIDE OF VEHICLES AS THERE ARE NO KEY OPTIONS EXCEPT DRIVERS DOOR AND HATCH. HATCH CANNOT BE LOCKED WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURS. *TR
