I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS TRYING TO TURN IT ON SOMETIMES. I BELIEVE IT MIGHT BE THE KEY OR IGNITION. I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY THINKING MY OLD ONE WAS DEAD AND IT ALSO STARTED GREAT FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. SOMETIMES I TURN THE KEY AROUND AND IT TURNS ON FINE AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. IT IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT DOES IT WHEN I AM AWAY FROM HOME. I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY FRONT BRAKES OR SUSPENSION BECAUSE WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKES MY STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO SHAKE. I HAD MY BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS CHECKED AND THEY ARE GOOD. I JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO BECAUSE EVERY TRIP TO THE MECHANIC COSTS MONEY. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE! *TR
THE 2ND ROW (CENTER ROW) DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NO LONGER LATCH. NOTHING IS STUCK IN IT--YOU CAN PUSH THE SEAT BELT INTO THE LATCH, BUT IT PULLS RIGHT OUT. ALTHOUGH A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN (AS WELL AS WEARING A SEAT BELT BEING LAW HERE), DODGE CLAIMS IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL ONLY FIX IF I PAY FOR IT. *TR
PUT THE KEY FOB IN THE IGNITION, THE CAR WOULD NOT READ THE FOB... TRIED BOTH KEYS A FEW TIMES AND FINALLY IT STARTED. EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE REMOTE (LOCK, UNLOCK, AUTOMATIC START, PANIC) WORKS... CAN USE THE AUTOMATIC STARTER... AS SOON AS THE KEY IS INSERTED, THE CAR TURNS OFF... SOMETIMES THE DISPLAY READS BAD KEY AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T REACT AT ALL. AFTER TRYING 10-30 TIMES, IT READS THE KEY AND THE CAR STARTS. WE TOOK TO THE DEALER AND ARE BEING TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE WIRELESS IGNITION MODULE AND KEYS NEED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH S GOING TO COST US OVER $600. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND AM SEEING THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH OUR MAKE AND MODEL, BUT AM UNABLE TO FIND A RECALL DIRECTLY RELATED TO OUR ISSUE. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD JUST "BREAK" OUT OF NOWHERE ON A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE STARTER, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V139000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WAS RECEIVED IN 2012. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

2009 DODGE JOURNEY AIR PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE. ON 4-23-13. I WAS TRAVELING A LOCAL HIGHWAY ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN THE VALVE STEM AND PRESSURE SENSOR CAME LOOSE AND FELL INTO THE TIRE ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR STOPPED SAFELY AFTER LOOSING CONTROL. AFTER READING A DODGE FORUM ON-LINE. THE GENERAL IDEA IS THAT THIS 2009 DODGE JOURNEY PRESSURE SENSOR IS POORLY DESIGNED. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND. DODGE CHANGED THE MATERIAL THE SENSOR IS MADE OF IN 2011. *TR
UPON TRYING TO START VEHICLE, NO RESPONSE. LIGHTS, RADIO, ALL WORK FINE. AFTER LETTING SIT FOR 1 HOUR TRIED AGAIN THIS TIME AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS CAR STARTED. I SEE FROM THE WEB THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE JOURNEYS FROM 2009 TO 2013. PLEASE FIND RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
HAVE HAD THE RACK AND PINION FIXED 1 1/2 YEARS AGO AND IT IS LEAKING AGAIN. HAVE HAD TO PUT 3 SETS OF BRAKE PADS ON IN 3 YEARS. ALSO HAD TO PUT NEW ROTOR AND BRAKE CALIPER ON RIGHT FRONT DUE TO BRAKE LOCKING UP! THIS CAR ONLY HAS 53,600 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER BREAKING DOWN ON IT. MY 09 DODGE JOURNEY WOULD FAIL TO START ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE. IT WOULD MAKE A CLICKING NOISE AND TAKE SEVERAL TRIES TO GET IT TO START. THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD ALSO FAIL TO COME ON WHILE TRYING TO START IT. I WOULD ALSO HAVE TO WAIT 1 OR MORE HOURS TIL I COULD GET IT TO START. I HAVE PUT IN A NEW ALTERNATOR AND STARTER IN IT. FINALLY ON JULY 3RD 2014 IT QUIT STARTING ALTOGETHER, STRANDING ME AT WORK. I HAVE ALSO HAD A FEW INCIDENTS WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON, AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WOULD GO BACK OFF. I HAVE CALLED A FEW DODGE DEALERS IN MY AREA AND THEY CLAIM TO BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND SAID IT WAS EITHER MY KEY OR A WIN MODULE. IF THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WHY IS THERE NO RECALLS ON IT. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON MY VEHICLE ONLY TO FIND OUT I AM AMONG THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
AFTER 45 MINUTES OF COMBINED IN-TOWN AND HIGHWAY DRIVING (APPROX. 16 MILES TOTAL) DURING RUSH HOUR CAR BEGAN TO SMELL HOT. WHEN STOPPED VISIBLE SMOKE FROM RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WELL. CAR PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND SLIGHT VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL. AFTER INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THE CALIPER WAS LOCKED-UP. REPLACED FRONT RIGHT BRAKE PAD AND CALIPER. ALL 4 ROTORS WERE TURNED 01/2013. *TR
I BOUGHT MY JOURNEY LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. SINCE I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER I GET THE SHAFT WITH A CAR W/LESS THAN 60,000. WELL, I HAD JUST GOTTEN NEW TIRES WHEN ON MY WAY HOME I APPLY THE BRAKES TO PULL INTO THE DRIVE AND HEAR A HORRIFIC METALLIC NOISE. UPON MY HUSBANDS INSPECTION THERE IS NOTHING FOUND WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR THE FRONT OF THE CAR, AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO STAND THE NOISE ANYMORE I HAVE HIM CHANGE THE FRONT BRAKES THE NEXT DAY, THINKING MAYBE THE TIRE GUY HAD KNOCKED SOMETHING LOOSE AND WE COULDN'T FIND IT.BRAKES STILL LOOKED GOOD, CHANGED ANYWAY. NOISE STILL HORRIBLE. NEXT DAY TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME OF MAJOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I HAD THE CAR TRANSPORTED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. DIAGNOSES, TRANSFER CASE HAS GONE OUT, BAD NEWS OVER 600!!!!!!! ON BACKORDER, LET ME KNOW IT MIGHT BE UP TO 2 MONTHS BEFORE THEY COULD GET ONE TO FIX IT. I TALKED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY INFORMED ME THEY COULD GET ONE SOONER. I HAD THE CAR TRANSPORTED ONCE AGAIN. AFTER BEING AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 WEEKS NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME IT MAYBE ATLEAST ANOTHER MONTH. REALLY? I AM STILL WAITING. JUST WONDERING WHAT THE MAGIC NUMBER OF PROBLEMS TO ONE PART DOES IT TAKE BEFORE CHRYSLER/DODGE ADMITS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEM AND THEY DO A RECALL ON THESE TRANSFERCASES THAT ARE NOT LASTING AS LONG AS AN AMERICAN PART SHOULD? IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS COMMON TRANSFER BOX PROBLEM I WOULD HAVE ATLEAST BEEN THE FIRST OWNER OF A NEW VEHICLE WITH A WARRENTY NOT THE SECOND WHO GETS THE SHAFT. THE VALVE STEMS ON MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY CRACKED CAUSING THE STEM TO FLY OUT OF THE TIRE. THIS CAUSES THE TIRE TO INSTANTLY GO FLAT, WHICH IN TURN MAKES THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE. BOTH TIMES I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IF I HAD BEEN IN ANY OTHER LANE I MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE VEERED INTO ANOTHER LANE OR IN FRONT OF ANOTHER CAR. I HAD TO FIX THE OTHER TWO TIRES AS WELL AS THEY WERE ALSO CRACKED. THIS IS APPARENTLY A PROBLEM THAT DEALERS/MECHANICS ARE AWARE OF. DODGE IS ALSO AWARE. THEY HAVE SINCE CHANGED THE WAY THE VALVES WERE MADE. THEY ARE NOW SOME TYPE OF PLASTIC. THE CONSUMER HOWEVER IS NOT AWARE UNTIL SOMETHING GOES WRONG. IN BOTH CASES AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED. AGAIN, I WAS LUCKY. BY DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND IT HAPPENS TO 2009 AND 2010 VEHICLES. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE AND ALL I GOT WE'RE APOLOGIES. IF I LOST MY LIFE OR MY CHILDREN AN APOLOGY WOULDN'T BRING ANYONE BACK. THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENS. WHEN THE STEM BLOWS OUT OF THE TIRE THE AIR LOSS IS INSTANTANEOUS. THERE IS NO WARNING JUST LOSS OF CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND CRASHED INTO A CURB AND THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION NOISE AT THE VEHICLE FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A HOLE WHICH CAUSED IT TO EXPLODE. THE CONTACT ALSO WANTED TO ADD THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAD WORN PREMATURELY AND THE IGNITION SWITCH MADE A CLICKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY HAS NOT REGULARLY STARTED FOR OVER A YEAR OFF AND ON. WHEN TURNING IT TO THE STARTING POSITION IT WILL JUST CLICK. IT WILL NEVER START IN PARK AND AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL WOULD START IT WHICH WORKED FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. NOW OVER A YEAR LATER OF PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL TO START I AM FINDING THAT ITS NOT WORKING ANY LONGER. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2012 SO ONLY A YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT THIS I STARTED HAVING THE PROBLEMS. IN 2013 I REPLACED THE STARTER AND IT DIDN'T START 2 HOURS AFTER REPLACING IT. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND HAVE SEEN I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM A MOTHER OF 3 KIDS AND CAN NOT BE STRANDED SOMEPLACE BECAUSE CHRYSLER DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO RECALL THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT!! APPARENTLY EVERY 10,000 TO 25,000 MILES THEY WILL NEED TO HAVE NEW BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACING OF ROTORS OR REPLACEMENT.. SEEMS, DEPENDING ONTHE WEIGHT YOU CARRY IN THE VEHICLE THEIR MAY BE A FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM.. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND ONLY HAVE 26,000 + MILES ON IT.. I HAVE READ THAT DODGE SHOULD REDESIGN AND INSTALL A NEW BRAKING SYSTEM.. BEING RETIRED,, I EXPECTED THIS TO BE MY LAST VEHICLE. I BOUGHT AMERICAN AUTO WHEN THE AMERICAN INDUSTRY WAS ASKING THE GOVERNMENT FOR ASSISTANCE. IM DISAPPOINTED DODGE HASN'T STEPPED UP AND TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM.. IT WILL COST ME $260. I OWN A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. AND RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION L25 / NHTSA 14V-373 HOWEVER THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I THINK THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD FAR EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE IN SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF CAR NOT STARTING, FORTUNATELY, THERE HAVE BEEN NO WRECKS YET. I'VE BEEN ON PHONE FOR OVER AN HOUR TRYING TO GET SOMEONE TO ANSWER MY CALL FROM CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-853-1403. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE I STOPPED AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD THE OIL WAS VERY LOW IT WAS NOT READY FOR AN OIL CHANGE YET AND NO LIGHTS CAME ON I PARKED IT AND CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED, THE DEALER SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT DOES NOT TRANSFER FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER I BOUGHT IT USED, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ON A NEWER LOWER MILEAGE CAR AND TO NOT HAVE CHRYSLER STAND BEHIND IT IS UNHEARD OF. I HAVE COMPLETED ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE ON A TIMELY BASIS. *TR

TRAVELING AT 60MPH ON WEST BOUND M-59 HIGHWAY, IN MICHIGAN, WHEN ALL AIR PRESSURE LOST OUT OF RT. REAR TIRE. MANAGED TO GET CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF A BELLE TIRE STORE. HAD THEM TAKE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS JUST ONE MORE FAILURE, DUE TO ROAD SALT, OF THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEM ON A CHRYSLER TPMS AIR PRESSURE SENDING UNIT. THEY ADVISED ME TO REPLACE UNIT ON ALL FOUR WHEELS BECAUSE THEY WOULD SOON BE FAILING. I REPLACED TWO OF THEM AT A COST OF $65 EACH BECAUSE THAT WAS ALL THAT I COULD AFFORD. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOWED ME A BUSHEL OF DEFECTIVE CHRYSLER (SIEMENS) UNITS. SINCE ONLY THE VALVE STEMS ARE BAD, AND EASY TO REPLACE, I LOOKED FOR REPLACEMENTS ON THE INTERNET BUT FOUND NONE. TOO BAD THAT THEY MAKE YOU BUY A $65 PART OVER THE FAILURE OF A $1 PART. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROTORS, CALIPERS, TRANSFER CASE, AND FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR CAUGHT FIRE, THE VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE CALIPER WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT THE DEALER FOR THE TRANSFER CASE MALFUNCTION. UPON INSPECTION FOR THE SEAT SENSOR FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT A RUBBER BOOT WAS NOT INSTALLED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE INSULATION IGNITING. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND PLACED ELECTRICAL TAPE AT THE END OF THE WIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE TIRE SENSOR ALSO MALFUNCTIONED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE TIRE CONSTANTLY GOING FLAT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,903.

TYPICALLY IT WILL START AFTER A FEW TRIES. BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED- THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THE 2009 DODGE JOURNEY SXT USED IN 2012. IN LESS THEN A YEAR I HAD TO REPLACE AN AXLE, THEN REPLACE A DRIVE SHAFT. BOTH HAD NO AFFECT ON THE PROBLEM AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO NOT TURN OVER AT THE MOST INCONVENIENT TIME. THE DAY BEFORE LEAVING ON VACATION, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED US WITH A RENTAL AND THEY KEPT THE CAR TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. I HAD PROVIDED THEM WITH A LIST OF COMPLAINTS LISTED HERE WHICH HELPED THEM TO NARROW DOWN THE ISSUE.
