I DRIVE THE DODGE JOURNEY FOR 13 MONTHS FROM NEW. THE CAR HAS NOW 32,500 MILES ON IT. I HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES - PADS AND ROTORS THREE TIMES. RECENTLY I FOUND OUT THAT THE REAR TIRES ARE ALSO WORN - THE LOWER PART OF THE INSIDE WALL ON BOTH TIRES IS WORN NOT EVENLY? THE LOCAL DEALER, SUPPORTED BY DODGE OFFICIALS, CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FOR THIS CAR, SHIRKING THE MANUFACTURER'S RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY AND THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED AFTER 29,686 MILES. THE DEALER CLAIMS IT IS NORMAL, THIS IS NOT TRUE. I AM VERY CONSCIOUS ABOUT BRAKING, I KEEP MY DISTANCE AND DO NOT MAKE HARD BRAKES UNLESS NEEDED. BASED ON POSTED REPORTS, MANY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE NEVER OWNED AN AUTOMOBILE WITH A BRAKE FAILURE WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON IT, NEVER. BRAKE FAILURE IS A SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE, IT COULD HARM THE PEOPLE IN THE CAR AS WELL AS SOME ONE ELSE. DODGE IS NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DESIGN OR MATERIAL DEFECT, WHAT EVER THE CASE IS, BUT THEY DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM TAKING YOUR MONEY TO KEEP REPAIRING THE PROBLEM. I AM SURE DODGE WILL DO NOTHING UNTIL A COUPLE OF PEOPLE ARE KILLED DUE TO BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TYPE VEHICLE. *TR
BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE BAD AT ONLY 15,000 MILES..CAR HAS VIBRATING PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS. *TR
I OWN A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY AND STARTED HEARING SQUEAKY BRAKES FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I COULD HEAR AND FEEL A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. I COULD THEN BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A DRAGGING NOISE AS IF THE BRAKES HAD NOT LET GO. YOU COULD EVEN SEE METAL SHAVINGS ON THE LEFT FRONT ROTOR! I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. I ASKED WHY THE PREMATURE PROBLEMS AND THEY SAID SORRY THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH NEW VEHICLES BUT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I HAD TO BUY NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS OUT OF POCKET. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 2009 DODGE JOURNEY SOMETHING SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING BY THE TIME I COULD SAFELY PULL THE VEHICLE OVER THE FRONT END AND THE ENGINE HAD LOCKED UP THERE WAS SMOKE COMING IN THROUGH VENTS UNDER THE HOOD AND OUT THE EXHAUST. CALLED 911 FOR ELECTRICAL HARNESS AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. ALL APPROPRIATE PEOPLE RESPONDED AND PUT THE FIRE OUT SAFELY. THE FAILURE OBVIOUSLY OCCURRED ONLY ONCE AND STILL WAITING ON THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO DECIDE IF THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED OR NOT. THE CAR HAD BEEN INTO THE SHOP FOR ENGINE TICK UPON START AND TOLD BY DODGE THAT IT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE THAT IS HOW THE SENDING UNIT FOR THE OIL WAS BUILT. CALLED MY VIN NUMBER IN FOR RECALLS AS I DID NOT BUY IT BRAND NEW WAS TOLD BY DODGE THAT THE WIRING HARNESS AND TRANSAXLE DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. STILL WAITING ON INSURANCE AS I SAID BUT ITS KIND OF CURIOUS THAT THIS SPECIFIC FAILURE WOULD SOUND VERY MUCH LIKE THE RECALL NOTICES. *TR
I OWNED A DODGE JOURNEY 2009 AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY BRAKES STARTED TO GRIND. IT FELT LIKE I HAD NO BRAKE POWER AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS METAL TO METAL. I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO OUR AUTHORIZED CHRYSLER DEALER AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. I HAD PURCHASED WITH THIS VEHICLE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT WAS TOLD ROTORS AND PADS WERE NOT COVERED EVEN IN CASE OF PREMATURE WEAR : MY CAR HAS ONLY 22,000 MILES. WHAT IS FRUSTRATING IS THAT THE BRAKES NEVER SQUEALED . HOW COULD I ANTICIPATED THIS ? THE DEALERSHIP IS ASKING OVER $400 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED AND BASED ON WHAT I AM READING IN THIS DATABASE, MY BRAKE PROBLEMS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN VERY SOON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE SEAT BELTS WERE DESIGNED TO LOCK ONLY WHEN THE AIR BAG SENSORS DETECTED AN IMPACT IN A CERTAIN LOCATION OF THE VEHICLE OR AT A CERTAIN SPEED. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT DID NOT MENTION IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PROPERLY RESTRAINED BY THE SEAT BELT AND SUFFERED INJURIES TO HIS CHEST AND A BROKEN STERNUM. THE BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY . THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A OIL CHANGE SERVICE WHEN DEALER TOLD HIM THAT ALL BRAKES AND ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I BOUGHT MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY SXT V6 BRAND NEW 12 MILES ON IT AND WE LOVE THE CAR, AND AFTER NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES SUCH AS POWER TO RADIO, AC, LIGHTS ( NOT WORKING WHILE DRIVING) AND AFTER MANY RETURNS TO DODGE DEALER FOR REPAIRS, SO FAR THAT PROBLEM FIXED. MY DOORS FILL UP WITH WATER EVERY TIME IT RAINS, DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT'S NORMAL, I'VE NEVER HEARD WATER SLOUCHING ROUND INSIDE A DOOR BEFORE, WHICH I BELIEVE LEAD TO THE POWER WINDOWS FAILING. DEALERSHIP FIXED ELECTRICAL WINDOW ISSUE BUT GET WATER IN DOORS. THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE IS AT 9000 MILES I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN, BRAKES WERE GRINDING, DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKES. NOW AT 21000 MILES IT NEEDS A COMPLETE NEW BRAKE JOB DONE AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME ABOUT $500. THE SIGNS THAT THE BRAKES WERE GOING BRAKES THEY STARTED SQUEAKING AND THEN A WEEK LATER MY BRAKES ARE METAL TO METAL. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THIS IS OUR FAMILY CAR. *TR

ALL THE VEHICLE DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, GAUGES BOUNCED TO 0 AND BACK, WIPERS WOULD ACTIVATE, AND VEHICLE MADE CHIME NOISE - REPEATEDLY. THE PROBLEM WILL SOMETIMES LAST ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS AND OTHER TIMES FOR THE DURATION OF THE DRIVE, AND EVEN CONTINUING UPON STARTUP OF THE NEXT DRIVE. THIS PROBLEM WAS VERY INTERMITTENT TO BEGIN WITH AND NOW IS BECOMING MORE COMMON. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION AND THE DEALER ORIGINALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN ON MANY ONLINE FORUMS AND IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY WIFE AND CHILDREN. TIRES WHERE BALANCE 3 TIMES AND FINAL DIAGNOSIS BY DEALERSHIP IS THAT I HAVE ONE "EGG SHAPED" KUMHO TIRE THAT KUMHO WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AND WOULD COST ME $267.00 TO CHANGE AS THERE IS ONLY ONE MANUFACTURE OF THIS TIRE. *TR

THE CONTACT THEN ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A DRAGGING NOISE AS IF THE BRAKES HAD NOT RELEASED. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED WHICH INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,100. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,180.
DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM MY HOUSE TO A DESTINATION APPROX 100 MILES AWAY. DURING THE DRIVE, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKES STARTED GRINDING WITHOUT WARNING. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKES WERE SHOT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS A COST OF 370.00. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 19000 MILES ON IT AND THE BRAKES WERE WORN DOWN TO THE RIVETS. I HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM AND "EVERYBODY" WHO OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND DODGE IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY ARE TELLING THE CUSTOMERS THAT THIS IS NORMAL. *TR

I PURCHASED MY JOURNEY IN MARCH 08. I HAVE 17,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAD TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED. I HAD BEEN NOTICING A HOT SMELL COMING FROM MY CAR FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT UNTIL I WALKED BY MAY REAR TIRE I DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM. WHEN I BET DOWN TO INVESTIGATE THE SMELL MY REAR WHEELS WERE SO HOT I COULD NOT TOUCH THE WHEELS. THE SMELL WAS NOT A HOT BREAK SMELL BUT A DIFFERENT ONE. I CONTACT MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD ME BRING IT RIGHT IN. AFTER EVALUATING THE PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME IT IS A DESIGN ISSUE WITH THE JOURNEY AND A COUPLE OTHER MODELS. WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS THE BREAKS WERE OXIDIZING AND THE CALIPERS WOULD RELEASE, BUT THE BRAKE PADS WOULD NOT. SO THE BRAKE PADS WERE CONSTANTLY RUBBING THE ROTORS. THEY SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE MANY TIMES BEFORE BUT CHRYSLER WAS NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. MY DEALERSHIP TREATED ME WELL, BUT THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE REMEDY. I CALLED THE RECALL DEPARTMENT AND THEY STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS MATTER, BUT ADVISED ME TO GO TO NHTSA.GOV AND STATE MY COMPLAINT. FRONT LEFT BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR EXCESSIVE WEAR. BACK LEFT BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR VERY LITTLE WEAR (TO THE POINT PITTED RUST WAS ON ROTOR). ORIGINAL FRONT PADS AND ROTORS CHANGED OUT AT APPROXIMATELY 36,000 MILES DUE LEFT TO RIGHT UNEVEN WEAR. BACK PADS AND ROTORS CHANGED OUT AT 49,000 MILES, DUE AGAIN TO UNEVEN LEFT TO RIGHT WEAR. AFTER HAVING THE BRAKING SYSTEM LOOKED AT FOR THIS ISSUE BY THE DEALERSHIP TECH WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT IT WAS DUE TO "EXCESSIVE RUST". I HAD AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC CHANGE THE BACK PADS AND ROTORS AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUES WITH BRAKE SLIDES, PADS CALIPERS, OR RUST. NOW DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED ME "THAT DUE TO ALL EVIDENCE OF THE ISSUE BEING DESTROYED, I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO REAPPEAR OR COMPLETE FAILURE TO HAPPEN IN ORDER TO RESOLVE ISSUE". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT RENTED A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY FROM A LOCAL TEMPORARY RENTAL VEHICLE FACILITY. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES FROM A SPEED OF AT LEAST 35 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THE FEELING WAS SIMILAR TO METAL SCRAPING AGAINST METAL. THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AND THERE WAS A HESITATION IN BRAKE ENGAGEMENT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO RETURN IN TWO WEEKS FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT HAD THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED AT A DIFFERENT DEALER AND THE FAILURE DID NOT PERSIST. MOST RECENTLY, THE REAR BRAKES BEGAN TO EXHIBIT SEVERE BRAKE DUST SURROUNDING THE REAR TIRE WELL. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS TO THE REAR BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.
THE BRAKES HAVE GONE OUT ON MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY 3 TIMES. EVERY 10,000-12,000 MILES THEY WEAR COMPLETELY OUT AND MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SEPTEMBER 2009 SQUEALING NOISES STARTED AGAIN. DEC 2010 WE TOOK TO A FIRESTONE AND THEY TOLD US OUR BRAKES NEEDED TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS CHANGED OUT AGAIN. WE WERE SHOCKED. WAITING FOR INCOME TAX TO COME BACK. FEB 2010 WE HAD THE WHOLE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. COST $400. APRIL 2010 SQUEALING NOSES CAME BACK. APRIL THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED! JUNE WE STARED HAVING SQUEALING NOISES AGAIN. TOOK IT INTO FIRESTONE SINCE WE COULD THE BRAKES DONE THERE. THE MANAGER WAS SO SHOCKED AT HOW OUR BRAKES WERE ALREADY HE CALLED MY HUSBAND IN TO THE SHOP TO LOOK AT THE BACK BRAKES!!! THE BACK BRAKES NOW!!! HE TOLD US THE CALIPER WAS TORN AND THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT THIS TIME HE TOLD US THAT HE THOUGHT WE REALLY NEEDED TO TAKE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP THAT SAME DAY AND TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISER EVERYTHING. THE SIDE, THE BRAKE AND ECT. BY 10AM HE CALLED US TELLING US THAT ALL THE BRAKES WERE 90%!!! I DON;T THINK SO., I TOLD HIM TO CALL MY HUSBAND AT THAT TIME BECAUSE MY HUSBAND SAW WHAT THEY SAY ISN'T THERE! SO MY HUSBAND GOT OUT OF WORK EARLY WENT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE ADVISER WANTED TO HAND BACK THE CAR AND MY HUSBAND SAID NO I WANT TO SHOW YOU. GOT NEW PADS FOR $300 KEPT DRIVING, NOW VEHICLE SHAKES HARD TO STOP AND CRUNCHING SOUND AGAIN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP (STOPPING CAN BE DIFFICULT) NOW JUNE-- TOOK VEHICLE IN AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY STATED FRONT PADS ARE 11/32 (IN 4 MONTHS?) AND REAR PADS ARE 1/32 ALMOST METAL TO METAL. CAR'S BRAKES APPEAR TO BE WAY TOO SMALL FOR VEHICLE SIZE AND IT APPEARS THE PADS WEAR VERY QUICKLY (CAN FIND TONS OF SAME COMPLAINTS IN VARIOUS REVIEW SITES) DODGE ALWAYS BLAMES THE DRIVERS FOR "RIDING THEIR BRAKES" BUT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF US. THEY ESTIMATE BRAKE PADS LAST 14-16K MILES!!!! BUT I CAN TELL EVEN THE FRONT ONE BEING BELOW HALF ARE NOW EFFECTING THE VEHICLES STOPPING ABILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED SEVERAL TIMES AND SHE WAS TOLD WHENEVER THE FAILURE HAPPENS TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO CHECK THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,500.

I OWN AN 09 DODGE JOURNEY IN WHICH I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AT 12,800 MILES, JUST AFTER WARRANTY, REPLACED BY MIDAS IN DEC.09. AT 19,800 I FELT MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. UPON INSPECTION I REALIZED MY REAR BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS WERE SHOT. BEING SUSPICIOUS OF THIS PREMATURE BRAKE ISSUES I GOOGLED "09 DODGE JOURNEY BRAKE PROBLEMS" AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINT! PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURE. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO NEEDED THEIR PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED FROM 5K-22K SOMETIMES EVEN MORE THAN ONCE! AT THE AVERAGE EXPENSE OF $360.00. I ALSO NOTED THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY AND DODGE CARAVAN OWNERS. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER I WAS TOLD BY THEIR SERVICE CLERK THAT THE CERAMIC PADS ORIGINALLY INSTALLED AT THE MANUFACTURER ARE WEARING PREMATURELY AND THAT THEY ARE BEING REPLACED BY A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PAD WITH "EXTENDED LIFE". IN MOST CASES THEY ARE BEING REPLACE IN "GOOD WILL"(FREE OF CHARGE). A SERVICE TECH ALSO CONFIRMED THIS BUT TOLD ME HE COULD NOT PROMISE THAT THIS SERVICE WOULD BE FREE UNTIL FURTHER INSPECTION. WHEN WE DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT THE DEALER OUR MAIN COMPLAINT WAS THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS. WE ASKED (IN WRITING )THAT THEY BE REPLACED IN "GOOD WILL" AND THAT THEY ALSO INSPECT THE FRONT BRAKES AN ROTORS BECAUSE THEY WERE REPLACED AT 12,800 WITH THE SAME CERAMIC PADS THAT ARE CAUSING ALL THE PROBLEMS. THE DEALER CALLED AND SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FRONT PADS AND CUT THE ROTORS FREE OF CHARGE BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS. THE TECH SAID THEY WERE ALREADY DOING ENOUGH "GOOD WILL"REPAIRS ON THE CAR AND THAT IF WE WANTED THE REAR BRAKES REPAIRED IT WOULD COST US $370. I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND GOT THE SAME RESPONSE. IT'S AMAZING! THE FRONT PADS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AFTER ONLY 7K. *TR
