THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE WEARING PREMATURELY AND SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM THE BRAKES AFTER REPAIRS. THE BRAKE PAD WAS CHANGED AT LEAST THREE TIMES AT THE VEHICLE MILEAGE OF 30,000, 42,000 AND 50,000. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE PROBLEM IF THE OWNER PAID FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD RETURN HIS CALL AT A LATER DATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

2009 DODGE JOURNEY BRAKE ISSUES. CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN JAN 09 AND IN NOV 09 THE BRAKES ARE WORN OUT. BRAKE WARE IS UNEVEN FROM FRONT TO BACK AND SIDE TO SIDE. THE BRAKE PEDAL AT A STOP WILL FADE TO THE FLOOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE SLOWLY TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE WORN AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE ROTORS. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WAS HOLDING WATER IN THE INTERIOR AND WOULD LEAK FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. UPDATED 01/24/12*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IN DECEMBER 2009, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY NOT START. AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, IT WOULD THEN START. THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, EXHAUST PIPES RUSTING, AND DOORS HOLDING IN WATER. UPDATE 01/27/12
NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT THIS LOW MILEAGE(13,687). FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN AS WELL AS REAR ROTORS AND BRAKES AT 19,765 MILES. FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN AND REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS RESURFACED AT 34,745 MILES. REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN AT 59,951 MILES. FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN AT 67500 MILES. FRONT BRAKE PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS, AND HOSES ALL REPLACED AT 72,773 MILES. FEEL THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
THE BRAKES FOR THIS VEHICLE REPEATEDLY CONTINUE TO FAIL. SINCE THE FIRST REPAIR (11/6/2009) WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE HAD 10 REPAIRS TO THE BRAKES IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS! OUR MECHANIC SAYS THAT THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW. THE LAST REPAIR (ON 9/9/2011) THE MECHANIC SAID IT APPEARED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT BEING USED AND ALL BRAKING IS BEING ACCOMPLISHED USING THE FRONT BRAKES. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IS HOW THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. I BELIEVE MOST OF THE BRAKING SHOULD FALL ON THE REAR BRAKES. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE OVERHEATING AND CAUSING THE ROTOR TO WARP AND THE BRAKE PADS TO FAIL (LITERALLY FALL APART). DODGE OBVIOUSLY REALIZES THERE IS A PROBLEM AS THEY SENT A LETTER OFFERING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY DATED 6/1/2011 FOR VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD EARLY BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE. SINCE 6/1/2011 WE HAVE HAD 5 REPAIRS TO THE FRONT ROTORS AND/OR PADS! DODGE DID COMPENSATE US FOR MUCH OF OUR EXPENSE. I APPRECIATE THE COMPENSATION BUT THAT IS NOT RESOLVING THE PROBLEM! THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS A CONSTANT FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I WOULD LIKE DODGE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND EITHER REPAIR THE DESIGN FLAW OR REPLACE THE VEHICLE! MY FEAR IS THAT THE CAR WILL NOT STOP WHILE I AM DRIVING IN HOUSTON, TEXAS TRAFFIC AND SOMEONE IN MY CAR OR SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT. IT APPEARS THAT DODGE WILL WAIT UNTIL THERE IS A DEATH OR INJURY TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR OR INADEQUATE DESIGN OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN THIS VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY, I AM NOT IN A POSITION TO BUY ANOTHER CAR OR I WOULD GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE AND NEVER PURCHASE A DODGE VEHICLE AGAIN! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY RT. THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE WORN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES. WHEN THE BRAKE WERE DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE BRAKES. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIRS SHE HAD TO PAY THE COST SINCE THERE WERE NO WARRANTIES OR RECALLS ON THE BRAKES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HER SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PARTS AND THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE LABOR. NO OTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF ASSISTING THE CONTACT WITH THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. ROTORS, BRAKE PADS, AND CALIPERS. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST MONTH TO TRY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. MY TIRES/BRAKES VIBRATE AND MAKE A LOUD HUMMING SOUND ON THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH AND WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES. THE PROBLEM STARTED IN OCTOBER, I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT BACK IN JANUARY AND HAVE BEEN BACK 3 TIMES SINCE THEN. *TR
AFTER OWNING MY CAR (AUGUST 2009), I TURNED THE KEY... IT CLICKED ONCE BUT, IT DID NOT START. I WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. THIS TIME, IT STARTED. I REMEMBER MENTIONING THIS WHEN I WENT TO THE SEMINAR FOR NEW CAR OWNERS GIVEN BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP; BUT THEY SAID, "IT WAS JUST A GLITCH". BUT, SINCE THEN, IT HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY. HOWEVER, LATELY, IT HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY, INCLUDING FIVE TIMES WITHIN THE PAST WEEK (MONDAY, JUNE 9 - 13, 2014). SPECIFICALLY, ON WEDNESDAY 09/11/2014, IT HAPPENED AS USUAL. HOWEVER, THIS TIME IT TOOK ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND SEVERAL TRIES (TURNING THE KEY) BEFORE THE ENGINE FINALLY STARTED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS "JUST A GLITCH" AS I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS AGO. PLEASE RESPOND AS I WONDER IF THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE? IF SO, WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN NOTIFIED (I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY). RECENTLY, A FRIEND WHO ALSO OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY WARNED ME THAT HIS CAR DID THE SAME UNTIL ONE DAY, IT JUST STOPPED WORKING PERIOD. I SINCERELY HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE. I OWN A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY AND HAD MY FRONT/BRAKES REPLACED AND THE ROTORS TURNED AT 12,000 MILES. I AM APPROACHING 20,000 MILES AND THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS HAS BECOME A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH DODGE JOURNEYS. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY SXT. I BOUGHT THIS NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN MCKINNEY, TX. MY COMPLAINT IS THE SUNROOF HAS LEAKED FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT IT AND IT STILL DOES LEAK. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT HELP ME EVEN WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I STUCK AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. IT IS GETTING SO BAD NOW THAT I CARRY A SMALL TARP WITH ME SO I CAN PUT IT OVER THE TOP IF THERE IS RAIN IN THE FORECAST. VERY UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED BY THE EFFECT OF CHRYSLER TO HELP ME WITH THIS.
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES WITH BRAKES AND ROTORS. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WITHIN MONTHS. ROUGHLY A YEAR LATER THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN, AND IT HAS NOW GONE OUT AGAIN. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE GO THROUGH BRAKES THE WAY THIS ONE DOES. OUR OTHER VEHICLE IS A 2007 FORD ESCAPE AND HAS NEVER HAD ANY BRAKE ISSUES, THE FIRST INCIDENT DATE IS TENTATIVE. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE THEN ADDED THAT THERE WAS ONLY 25 % LEFT ON THE REAR BRAKE PADS. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,780.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE EXHIBITING AN UNUSUALLY LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WOULD NEED TO BE RESURFACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION WHERE THE BRAKE LINES, BOTH ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,693 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,700.
ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2009, MY WIFE AND I WERE HEADED EAST ON HIGHWAY 19 OUTSIDE CHEROKEE, NC. A DUI DRIVER CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND HIT OUR 2009 DODGE JOURNEY HEADON AND CAUSED US TO ROLL OVER AND COME TO REST UPRIGHT. OUR FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. OUR SIDE SEAT AND CEILING CURTAIN AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN THE ROLL OVER. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 45 MPH. ACCIDENT INVESTIGATED AND PHOTOS TAKEN BY CHEROKEE INDIAN POLICE DEPT. MY WIFE AND I WERE MEDEVAC BY HELICOPTER TO ASHVILLE, NC. MY VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY. HAVE PHOTOS OF INTERIOR SHOWING AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN ROLL OVER. *TR

WITH THIS BEING SAID YOU WOULD THINK I HAVE BUILT A NEW CAR BY NOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FIVE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR THE SIMILAR FAILURE. THE FRONT SUSPENSION BALL AND SEAT WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT A DIFFERENT TIME. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DELAY AND DECLINED TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE REMEDY. THE CONTACT WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR HER FAMILY'S SAFETY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. REDUCED BRAKING CAUSED BY WORN FRONT ROTORS AND FRONT BRAKE PADS FROM PREMATURELY WEARING OUT IN 13 MONTHS OF USE. ROTORS WORN BEYOND REPAIR (CANNOT BE RESURFACED) AND PADS WORN COMPLETELY. APPEARS TO BE DESIGN AND PRODUCT FAILURE. BRAKING SYSTEM MAYBE INADEQUATE FOR THE LOAD OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR. REQUIRES UPGRADED BRAKING SYSTEM TO OFFSET SIZE AND WEIGHT OF VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, CANNOT PURCHASE ANY UPGRADE ROTORS FROM THIRD PARTY SUPPLIERS DUE TO NEWNESS OF MODEL. NOTHING IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE EXCEPT THE SAME OEM PARTS FROM DODGE/CHRYSLER. VEHICLE SUSTAINED A LOSS OF BRAKING EFFICIENCY UNTIL ALMOST COMPLETE LOSS OF FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM. LOUD GRINDING AND HIGH PITCH NOISE FROM ROTORS. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR WARNING SYSTEM THAT BRAKING SYSTEM REQUIRED REPAIR OR SERVICE. VEHICLE LOST FRONT BRAKES SOONER THAN A REASONABLE PERSON WOULD HAVE OR COULD HAVE ANTICIPATED AND NO WARNING TO CAUSE INSPECTION TO OCCUR. *TR

THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE 2009 DODGE JOURNEY IS, IN THE OPINION OF A SPECIALIZED MECHANIC CONSULTED AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKES, DEFECTIVE. THE FRONT BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 9,000 MILES AND THE BACK BRAKES ARE AT THIS POINT WORN DOWN, WITH THE CAR HAVING LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT. HAVING CALLED DODGE, I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TYPE OF BRAKE PADS, NOT THE ACTUAL BRAKING SYSTEM, AND THAT DODGE IS PAYING FOR REPLACEMENT BRAKE PADS. HOWEVER, THE OPINION RECEIVED FROM A SPECIALIZED DODGE MECHANIC AND STATE VEHICLE INSPECTOR DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS VIEW. MY OVERTURES TO CHRYSLER HAVE BEEN UTTERLY POINTLESS WITH THE COMPANY STATING THAT THE TEMPORARY SOLUTION PROFFERED WILL RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT CONVINCED. THE NHTSA MUST IMMEDIATELY COMMENCE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE NATURE AND BREADTH OF THIS PROBLEM AND INSTRUCT CHRYSLER TO ISSUE AND IMMEDIATE RECALL ON THE 2009/2010 DODGE JOURNEY ON THE GROUNDS OF SAFETY AND CONSUMER PROTECTION. MY 2009 DODGE JOURNEY REQUIRED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AT UNDER 20K MILES - THE BACK BRAKES NEEDED TO BE CHANGED BY 25K MILES. DEALER SERVICE CENTER COULD NOT GIVE A REASON AS TO WHY BOTH SETS OF BRAKES WOULD NEED TO BE CHANGED SO SOON. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THIS WAS FOUND TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. BRAKES THAT NEED TO BE CHANGED BEFORE 15K MILES OR YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE ROTORS AS WELL SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT TO ME. I BELIEVED THE SQUEAK WAS DUE TO "DIRT IN THE WHEEL WELLS", AS I WAS TOLD WHEN I TOOK IT IN AT 15K MILES.... THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS WELL AS COSTLY. I PURCHASED A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY IN AUGUST OF 2008. I HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH ROTOR AND BRAKE WEAR. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND ALL 4 BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE WITH THE FRONT BEING REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE FIRST OF WHICH OCCURRED JUST PAST 12,000 MILES. THIS IS WHEN BRAKE AND ROTOR WEAR WARRANTY ENDS. I HAVE ALSO HAD SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS WITH THE WIRING SENSOR MODULE, RESULTING IN STABILITY CONTROL AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT TO COME ONE. I ALSO HAVE POWER PORTS IN THE VEHICLE THAT DO NOT WORK AS WELL AS A LIFT GATE THAT DOES NOT LOCK. I CURRENTLY HAVE 48,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND NOW HAVE ISSUES WITH LEAKING. I AM UNSURE HOW WATER IS ENTERING THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY THRU THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAINAGE SYSTEM. THE ENTIRE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR BOARDS ARE WET AS WELL AS THE BUILT IN COOLER BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT BEING COMPLETELY FILLED WITH WATER WITHIN SEVERAL DAYS OF EMPTYING. THIS OCCURS WHEN IT IS NOT RAINING OR WET OUTSIDE. I NOW HAVE MOLD ISSUES IN THE VEHICLE. MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN HAVE SIGNIFICANT ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY R/T WHICH HAS LED COURTESY LAMPS OVER HEAD AND UNDER THE DASH ON BOTH SIDES AS WELL AS A REAR DOME. THE OVERHEAD DOME AND FRONT LED'S ARE CONTROLLED BY OPENING THE DOORS AS MOST COURTESY LAMPS ARE. HOWEVER THE UNDER THE DASH COURTESY LAMPS ARE CONTROLLED WITH THE DASH INSTRUMENTATION LAMPS, THEREFORE WHEN YOU DRIVE WITH THE HEADLAMPS ON, THEY ARE ALSO ON. THIS MAKES DRIVING AT NIGHT VERY DIFFICULT AS THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS ILLUMINATED, CAUSING GLARE AND POOR VISIBILITY OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS, REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ROTORS, AND RESHAPED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ROTORS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD TAKE THE LIABILITY FOR PARTIAL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A THREE TIMES WHO ADVISED THE IDENTICAL REPAIR THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED. THE CONTACT DECLINED THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED SINCE THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,009 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,945.

I EVEN WROTE AN ANGRY LETTER TO CHRYSLER AND THEY MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR A CUST SERVICE REP TO MEET WITH THE DEALERS TO RESOLVE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.
