TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STOPPED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 112,000.
I WAS ON I95 DOING 70 MILES AN HOUR AND MY CAR STAYED IN DRIVE AND ALL THE SUDDEN STARTED GOING IN REVERSE. BACKING ME UP ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TRACTOR TRAILERS FLYING ALL AROUND ME. CARS GOING AROUND ME RUNNING OFF SHOULDER TO KEEP FROM HITTING ME. I TRIED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. I TRIED AGAIN ONCE I GOT TO 20 IT STARTED GOING IN REVERSE AGAIN. THEY SAID IT WAS A INTERNAL TRANSFAULT AND IT GRINDING METAL INTO MY TRANSCOOLER THAT WILL NEED TO ALSO BE REPLACED WITH THE TRANSMISSION. IF ITS INTERNAL AND NO FAULT OF MINE AND ALMOST KILLED ME AND I DO NOT EVER WANT TO DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY AGAIN FROM FEAR. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TO FIX IT. I AM VERY ANGRY AND UPSET AND NOT RICH.
BOUGHT 2009 DODGE JOURNEY NEW. WITH ONLY 12,143 MILES (19.818 KM) I HAD TO HAVE ROTORS AND BRAKES REPLACED DUE TO THEM RUSTING OUT. THIS WAS DONE IN GERMANY BY A DODGE DEALER. A POLICY ADJUSTMENT WAS MADE. THEN WITH ONLY 27,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE I HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS AND THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED. THEN WITH 43,148 MILES I HAD TO ONCE AGAIN REPLACE ALL BRAKE PADS, FRONT ROTORS AND THE REAR ROTORS WERE ABLE TO BE MACHINED. THIS IS THE WORK I HAD DONE AT SAN DIEGO DODGE DEALER. WHEN I HAD THE WORK DONE IN MAY 2016 I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN AUG 2016 DUE TO A SQUEAKING NOISE COMING WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. WAS TOLD IT WAS FROM NEW BRAKES AND I SHOULD JUST PUMP THEM AND IT SHOULD GO AWAY. I TRIED TO DO THIS BUT NOISE REMAINED SO I TOOK VEHICLE BACK IN NOV 2016 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WERE "DIRTY" AND THEY COULD CLEAN THEM FOR $134 OR I COULD ONCE AGAIN PUMP THEM AND IT SHOULD STOP. I TRIED AGAIN THEIR RECOMMENDATION AND THEN DECIDED TO TAKE FOR SECOND OPINION SO TOOK TO PERRY'S DODGE IN NATIONAL CITY, CA ON 3 APRIL 2017 AND WAS INFORMED THAT I THE VEHICLE NEEDED ALL FOUR BRAKES AND THE REAR ROTOR NEEDED REPLACED WITH THE FRONT ROTOR NEEDING MACHINED. I WOULD THINK THAT FOR A VEHICLE HAVING ONLY 53,000 MILES AND HAVING 4 BRAKE JOBS AND NOW NEEDING ANOTHER ONE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG. I CONTACTED DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP (ROYAL) WHO BASICALLY SAID THAT ACCORDING TO THE SAN DIEGO DODGE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT THEY DID OPEN EMAIL CASE NUMBER: 3336076 AND REFERENCE NUMBER: 29272328. I HAVE READ MANY REVIEWS THAT BASICALLY SAY THAT THE 2009 AND 2010 DODGE JOURNEY'S BRAKE SYSTEM WERE NOT MADE TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. DODGE WILL NOT CLAIM THIS ERROR AND SO US WHO BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT ARE STUCK WITH PERFORMING BRAKE JOBS EVERY 10,000 MILES.
THE ENGINE STALLS WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND / OR HIGHWAY. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. ALSO, INTERMITTENT NO START WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR. NO CRANK. 2009 DODGE JOURNEY
THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW BUTTON BROKE OFF. DON'T HAVE A BUTTON NOW TO ROLL UP OR DOWN ALSO THE DRIVERS SEAT WILL NOT GO UP OR DOWN. HAVE TO SIT ON PILLOWS
OUR JOURNEY HAS BEEN IN A SHOP, OUT OF SERVICE FOR OVER 3 WEEKS. IT STALLS AT LOW RPMS AND IS DIFFICULT TO START. WE TOOK IT TO ONE SHOP WHO COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AND WE THEN TOOK IT TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM EITHER. WE TOOK IT TO A 3RD SHOP AND THEY TRIED SEVERAL FIXES TO NO AVAIL. THEY THINK IT MIGHT BE A TORQUE CONVERTER NOW. IF THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM WE'LL HAVE SPENT OVER $2000 REPAIRING THE CAR AND NOT BEING DRIVABLE FOR A MONTH. IF IT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM THEN I HAVE AN ISSUE EVEN MANUFACTURER TRAINED MECHANICS CAN'T FIGURE OUT.
THERE WAS A EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN THAT WAS REPEATEDLY CHECKED BY THE DEALER AND COULDN'T FIND THE SOURCE. THEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN, I HEARD A LOUD BANG. PULLED OVER AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. GOT IT TOWED, AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $3000 WITH ONLY 75,000 MILES ON IT
THE CAR IS ACTING POSSESSED. THE PEDOMETERS AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ARE BLINKING ON AND OFF THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLING UP AND DOWN BY ITSELF. THE CAR CUTS OFF BY ITSELF WHICH DRIVING AND WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK THE GEAR SHIFT WON'T MOVE OUT OF PARK AND THE CAR WON'T CUT ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TIPM MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE WIRE HARNESS.BUT DIDNT TELL ME THAT ITS RECALLS OUT HERE 4 THE SAME PROBLEM MY CAR IS HAVING.

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON BY THEMSELVES AND WILL NOT TURN OFF, HAD TO REMOVE FUSE. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THEY CAME ON AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. THEN THE TURN SIGNALS, HEADLIGHTS, AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. THIS CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND THESE WORK WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT; MEANING THEY COME AND GO, WORKING ONE SECOND THEN NOT THE NEXT, THEN WORKING AGAIN....USUALLY THEY DON'T WORK AND STOP FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THEN EVENTUALLY WORK AGAIN LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THIS TIME I'M NOT SO SURE HOW LONG IT IS GOING TO GO ON BECAUSE IT IS WORSE AND ONGOING. I AM FINDING JUST HOW DANGEROUS IT IS NOT TO BE ABLE TO USE TURN SIGNALS, ETC. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE TO WORK NOW BECAUSE OF THE HEADLIGHTS! AND NOW THE RAIN IS COMING IN AND I AM NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS OR WIPERS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS - THERE ARE SOOO MANY COMPLAINTS! IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME OR MY CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN THERE WILL BE A LAWSUIT FILED AS THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS NOT TO BE RECALLED WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND DANGER IT ENTAILS. COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ARE ABOUT AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING, CARS STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, ETC. THIS IS TOTALLY ABSURD!!!!! AND AS BAD AS MY CAR IS GETTING THESE PROBLEMS WON'T BE FAR BEHIND. OWN A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. REPLACED THE HEATER CORE 3 YEARS AGO. WARRANTY FOR 1 YEAR. NEW COIL WENT UP APPROX. 2 WEEKS AFTER WARRANTY. REFUSED TO WARRANTY IT. PAID TO HAVE ANOTHER HEATER COIL INSTALLED. SAID IT WAS WARRANTED FOR 2 YEARS. SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED LAST WEEK. WENT AND TALKED TO DEALER ABOUT WARRANTY FOR THIS ONE. THEY SAID NO, THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 15 DAYS. TOLD ME TO CALL DODGE GOOD WILL DEPARTMENT. THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE IT CHECKED FIRST. THAT COST WAS ABOUT $80.00 AND NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED EVEN THOUGH IT'S AN ON GOING PROBLEM. AN EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACE A LOT OF THESE HEATER COILS. OBVIOUSLY THERE'S A PROBLEM. CHECKED ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THERE'S A LOT OF THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT I'M HAVING, HOT AIR ON DRIVERS SIDE COLD AIR ON PASSENGERS SIDE UNTIL IT TOTALLY GOES UP. SEVERAL MECHANICS ON THE INTERNET STATED THAT IT'S A FLAW IN ITS DESIGN. 2 MAIN PROBLEMS, FIRST SEEMS SPLIT SECOND IT PLUGS WITH SEDIMENT VERY EASILY. OBVIOUSLY VERY LITTLE HEAT WHEN CAR IS RUNNING.
I PURCHASED MY DODGE JOURNEY SXT 09-22-2016. ON FEBRUARY 3, 2017, I DROVE ABOUT 5 MILES (TO MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL THEN TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT). I TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE, BEGAN TO EXIT THE CAR AND NOTICED IT HAD LIGHT SMOKE COMING FROM IT. IT BOTHERED ME SEEING THERE WAS NOT REASON (I.E. WASTED FLUIDS) AND I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I CALLED MY SOMEONE TO INQUIRE FROM THEM ABOUT THE SMOKE, AND THE NEXT THING I KNOW, PEOPLE ARE YELLING AT ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR!!! MY SIDE OF THE CAR WAS ON FIRE (UNDER THE HOOD). THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. IN FACT, IF IF MY CAR DOOR WASN'T OPEN, I WOULD NOT BE TYPING THIS NOTICE.

TRANSMISSION LOCKS IN LOW GEAR WITH NO WARNING HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES
2009 DODGE JOURNEY - TOTAL INTERGRATED POWER MODULE ( FUSE BOX) WENT IN DEFECT MODE. IT IS LOCATED UNDER THE CAR HOOD NEAR FRONT DRIVER SIDE FENDER. THINK OF THE TIPM LIKE A COMMAND CENTER FOR ALL THE ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS OF YOUR CAR. WANT TO TURN ON YOUR WIPERS? THAT HAS TO GO THROUGH THE TIPM. NEED THE FUEL PUMP TO TURN ON AFTER YOU TURN THE KEY? YOU'LL HAVE TO RUN IT THROUGH TIPM FIRST. MY CAR ENGINE TURNED OFF WHILE ON MY STREET ROAD. I HAD TO MANUALLY TURN OFF ROAD. THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. WHEN I RESTARTED CAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT ON WOULD NOT TURN OFF. LOW BEAM LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO OFF. NO CLUSTER LIGHTS ( FUEL GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER, BATTERY, TEMP GAUGE, SPEED GAUGE, DIGITAL READOUTS ETC) NO HEAT OR AC POWER, NO BLINKERS. NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS, NO AC POWER CONVERTER. I COULD DRIVE CAR BUT HAD NO GAUGES THAT WORKED THAT LEFT ME IN THE BLIND. THE FOLLOWING WORKED NORMAL: BRAKE LIGHTS, RADIO AND ELECTRIC WINDOWS. HAD AUTO MECHANIC SCAN IT AND FOUND TIPM WAS DEFECTED. THIS IS DANGEROUS EVERYONE BECAUSE IF THE TIPM JUST DECIDES TO GO DEFECT YOUR CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY STOP AND YOU WILL LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR CONTROL BECAUSE THE TIPM SHUTS IT DOWN. I WAS LUCKY AND JUST COASTED OFF THE ROAD, BUT IF ONE IS ON THE ROAD AND HEAVY TRAFFIC YOU WILL CRASH AND YOU AND EVERY ONE'S LIFE, HEALTH AND WELL BEING IS LETHALLY IN DANGER ( DEATH) THIS DODGE JOURNEY DUE TO THIS DEFECT MUST BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. DOES IT TAKE DEATH FOR A RECALL? IS IT GOING TO TAKE A DEATH AND GROUP LAW SUIT? THE TIPM IS DEFECTIVE AND MUST BE RECALLED ON 2009 DODGE JOURNEYS AND ALL OTHER AFTER THAT YEAR. CAR HAS BEEN RANDOMLY NOT STARTING, MOST TIMES IT WILL START IN NEUTRAL, HAVE HAD CAR IN SHOP REPEATEDLY, CAN'T FIND REASON, PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, IGNITION RECALL WAS DONE JUST PRIOR TO START ING ISUES BEGINNING BUT I WAS TOLD BY DEALERT IT WAS NOT A RELATED ISSUE HAD STARTER REPLACED IN JUNE, THEN HAD NEW BATTERY PUT IN, TOOK CAR INTO DEALER IN NOV FOR DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED BY BY DEALER. SINCE THAT REPAIR CAR CAR HAS DRAINED BATTERY 4 TIMES. FIRST TIME COULD NOT GET IT JUMPED PUT TRICKLE CHARGER ON IT FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS STARTED RIGHT UP, IT DIED AGAIN CHARGED IT DROVE IT AROUND NEVER SHUTTING IT OFF ANYWHERE TOOK IT TO MECHANIC, STARTER WAS GOOD BATTERY WAS GOOD BUT LOW, SO IT WAS WARRANTED OUT WITH BRAND NEW ONE. CAR WAS FINE FOR 4 DAYS. DID NOT DRIVE IT FOR 2 DAYS, NOW IT WILL NOT START, AND WHEN I PUT BATTERY CHARGER ON IT, IT CLICKS AND CHATTERS AND TRIES TO START ON ITS OWN WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. IT IS NEW YEARS DAY SO NOTHING IS OPEN.
FRONT END CLUNKS WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEELS WHILE DRIVING.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY POWER STEERING RETURN HOUSE BUSTING AT ENGINE STARTUP WHEN THE WEATHER IS 30 OR BELOW. THIS IS MY 5TH WINTER DEALING WITH THIS AND I HAVE REPLACED THE RESERVOIR (RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALERSHIP) AND I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES. I WOULD REATTACH THE HOSE AND THE SAME DAY IT WILL BUST AGAIN. IT HAS BUSTED WHEN WE ARE AT HOME, WORK OR OUT RUNNING ERRANDS. DURING THE NON WINTER MONTHS I ALWAYS HAVE A SLOW LEAK AND HAVE TO FILL ABOUT ONCE A MONTH. THIS LEAK IS EATING AWAY AT MY MOTOR MOUNT AND AC BELT. I HAVE CAME ACROSS A RECALL (S08) FOR THIS ISSUE BUT CHRYSLER SAID MY VIN/ENGINE TYPE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS. CLEARLY I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND DO NOT UNDERSTAND TO WHY I CANNOT GET MINE FIXED. I HAVE A STRONG BELIEF THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE AND I DON'T HAVE AN EXTRA $500 LAYING AROUND TO FIX IT, IF ITS EVEN FIXABLE MY A LOCAL MECHANIC. I LIVE IN THE MIDWEST WHERE WE CAN GET PRETTY HARSH WINTERS AND WITH MY POWER STEERING NOT WORKING IT IS NOT SAFE. 75% OF THE TIME I HAVE MY 3 AND 4 YEAR OLD WITH ME. THE UPSETTING PART ABOUT THIS IS I AM STILL PAYING ON THIS CAR (ONLY 6 MONTHS LEFT THANK GOODNESS). TAKATA RECALL - WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40 MPH. CAR BEGAN TO IDLE HIGH, PULLED OVER TO SHOULDER AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. OPENED THE HOOD, SMELLED BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL. CLOSED THE HOOD, TRIED TO START THE CAR. NO START, LIGHTS ON BUT WOULD NOT START. TRIED TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, STILL NO START. VEHICLE WAS TOWED 15 MILES TO MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. *TR
OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS I HAVE HAD AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF WORK DONE ON MY BRAKES. ON THE FRONT WHEELS, BOTH HAVE HAD 3 NEW SETS OF ROTORS, 2 OF WHICH HAD TO BE RESURFACED, 3 SETS OF BRAKE PADS, 2 NEW CALIPERS FOR THE LEFT AND 1 FOR THE RIGHT, 1 BRAKE HOSE AND 1 HUB BEARING FOR THE LEFT. THE REAR TIRES HAVE HAD A NEW SET OF ROTORS, WHICH WERE RESURFACED TODAY, AND A NEW HUB BEARING ON THE REAR LEFT. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED, AND I CAN CONFIDENTLY SAY MY DRIVING IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I WENT TO THE DODGE DEALER TODAY AND I EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT I HAD BEEN GOING THROUGH ALL OF THIS TIME AND HE STILL INDICATED THAT IT WOULD BE A $100.00 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.
