ON A NICE WARM DAY IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS, OCTOBER 4, 2015 IN THE AFTERNOON I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH AND NOTICED THE STORE I WANTED TO TURN INTO WAS ON THE RIGHT AND I MADE A VERY SUDDEN BRAKING AND A RIGHT-HAND TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT AND THEN AS I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR OR ALMOST AND I WENT ABOUT 100 FEET BEFORE MY CAR STOPPED. I THEN NOTICED THAT I COULD SLOWLY STOP WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN. AFTER PARKING AND DOING MY SHOPPING I RETURNED TO THE CAR IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE WAS BACK TO NORMAL. ON A NICE WARM DAY IN DALLAS TEXAS OCTOBER 31, 2015 IN THE AFTERNOON I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH AND RAN OVER A ROUGH POTHOLE. I DROVE FOR ABOUT TWO MORE BLOCKS AND NEEDED TO STOP AT A SIGNAL LIGHT AND MY BRAKES FAILED AS BEFORE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP AFTER ALMOST PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. ON A NICE DAY NOVEMBER 6, 2015 I WENT GROCERY SHOPPING AND MY BRAKE SYSTEM WAS STILL OPERATING POORLY AND WOULD ONLY STOP AFTER PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. AFTER SHOPPING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES I GET IN THE CAR AND GET READY TO LEAVE AND BEHOLD! THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS BACK TO NORMAL. DURING THE TIME THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS OPERATING POORLY I WAS NOTICING THE SYMPTOMS OF THE BRAKE. WHEN I FIRST STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WILL GO DOWN ALMOST ALL OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH A LITTLE EFFORT THEN AT THAT POINT THE BRAKES WILL WORK GOOD. WHEN I FIRST STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL I CAN FEEL IT WANTS TO SLIGHTLY ENGAGE THE BRAKES BUT WILL NOT WANT TO STOP UNTIL I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST ALL OF THE WAY DOWN.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HOME FROM WORK YESTERDAY, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO REQUIRE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MORE PRESSURE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES THAN THEY HAD EARLIER IN THE DAY. SINCE THIS PROBLEM BEGAN IT HAS STEADILY INCREASED REQUIRING ME TO PUSH MY BRAKES ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKES WILL ENGAGE. IN A FEW CASES MY BRAKES HAVE FAILED TO ENGAGE AT ALL REQUIRING ME TO SWERVE OUT OF TRAFFIC LANES IN ORDER TO AVOID CAUSING A WRECK. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TWICE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE BRAKES ENGAGING. *TR
ESP CAN NOT BE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS WHEN I NEED TO PULL THE BOAT OFF A SLIP, IT ACTIVATES WHEN WHEELS SPIN OR BEGINS TO SLIDE APPLYING THE REAR BRAKES AGGRESSIVELY. ALSO WHEN I AM IN 4X4 AND SPINNING IN THE MUD IT ALSO DOES THE SAME RESULTING IN ALMOST GETTING STUCK OR GETTING STUCK, WHICH MAKES ME USE 4X4 MORE OFTEN THEN NOT. I HAVE CONTACTED DEALERS AND DODGE ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT THEY SAY ITS INTEGRATED INTO THE ABS SYSTEM AND CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE GONE THROUGH SEVERAL REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THIS IS ONE DODGE DEALER IN THE UNITED STATES. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT WHEN PARKING ON ANY TYPE OF GRADE TI TRANSMISSION COULD SLIP AND ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL OUT OF CONTROL. ADDITIONALLY WITH OUT THESE PART THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE PENNSYLVANIA ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD UPON ENGAGING AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO REDUCE SPEED UNTIL AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED REPEATEDLY WITH FORCE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PAD DETACHED ONTO THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH CAUTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER CYLINDER. IN ADDITION, BOTH FRONT ROTORS AND BOTH FRONT CA PLIERS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM AND REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. UPDATED 05/11/12*LJ ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE, BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER AND CONTAMINATED THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE INNER PAD FELL OUT OF THE BRACKET AND THE PISTON HIT THE ROTOR AND DAMAGED IT. THE BRAKE BOOSTER, MASTER CYLINDER, BOTH FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES TO STOP, BUT EVEN AFTER THE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS SURE OF TWO INJURIES AND SUSPECTS THAT THERE WERE INJURIES IN THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP, BUT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT WAS 81,000.
MY DODGE NITRO IS NOT ABLE TO PASS SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO NON-WORKING PARKING BRAKE. MECHANIC INSPECTED ROTORS AND DRUMS. EVERYTHING LOOKED OKAY. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE TOO MUCH SLACK AND BRAKE HANDLE BUT NO WAY TO ADJUST. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEM; EVEN A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION NITROS, MINE IS AUTOMATIC. I FEEL A RECALL IS WARRANTED. *TR
I AM HAVING MULTIPLE ISSUES. THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME I GET GAS, THE AIR CONDITIONER ONLY COOLS WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES PRODUCES HEAT INSTEAD, THE LOCKS DO NOT WORK 4 OUT OF 7 DAYS A WEEK, THE TPM SIGNAL COMES ON EVERY FEW DAYS EVEN THOUGH THE TIRES ARE FINE, AND THE WINDOWS DO NOT WORK ON OCCASION. ALTHOUGH THIS APPEARS TO ME THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL AND GAS TANK ISSUE, THERE ARE NOT ANY RECALLS ISSUED AT THIS TIME. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I WILL NEED TO BRING IT BY WHEN THINGS ARE NOT WORKING IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DO ANY TYPE OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD MANY ISSUES. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES HARD TO PUSH WITH LITTLE BRAKING EFFECT THEN WILL SUDDENLY LOOSEN UP AND APPLY HARD BRAKES. THE SEAT BELTS ACT UP. THE DOOR HANDLES ON THE INSIDE BREAK WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SO YOU CANNOT GET OUT FROM INSIDE. THE ENGINE REVS AND HESITATES INTERMITTENTLY. THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILS. DURING THE LAST MAJOR SNOW STORM I NOTICED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A BRAKE FAILURE AFTER TALKING TO A COWORKER HE SAID THAT SOMETIMES A LOT OF SNOW CAN MESS WITH THE BRAKES. HIS EXPLANATION SEEMED LOGICAL. ON 4/17/10 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND STARTED COASTING TOWARDS TRAFFIC THAT JUST STARTED MOVING. MY APPROACH SPEED WAS A LITTLE FASTER BUT BY NO MEANS NOTHING THAT COULDN'T BE STOPPED. WHEN I WENT TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BREAKS DIDN'T WORK. I FELT LIKE I WAS STANDING ON THEM. I TRIED TO MAKE A CORRECTION MANEUVER TO NOT INJURE ANYONE BUT I COULDN'T WITHOUT GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.AND REARENDED SOMEONE. WHO IN INTURN REARENDED SOMEONE (4 CARS TOTAL BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS MOVING). ALL OF THE BRAKE RECALLS WERE DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP AT MY 36,000 MILE SERVICE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND 10 MINUTES LATER, THE COSUMER WAS TOLD A COMPUTER SOFTWARE PROGRAM WAS DOWNLOADED AND THE VEHICLE WAS READY. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE ACCIDENT WAS A RESULT OF THE RECALL.
WE PURCHASED A 2007 DODGE NITRO SLT 4X4 FROM BERGER FAMILY DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY OF 2007. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW. IN SPRING 2007 MY WIFE NOTICED WHEN GOING UP A STEEP HILL AT A SLOW SPEED (APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MPH), COASTING TO THE TOP OF THE HILL TO A STOP SIGN, WHEN SHE APPLIES HER BRAKE PEDAL, THERE IS NO BRAKING. AFTER A SHORT TIME, THE BRAKES WILL ENGAGE. THIS IS AFTER SWERVING INTO ONCOMING LANE TO AVOID "REAR-ENDING" STOPPED TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF HER. LUCKILY ALL THESE TIMES, NO ONE WAS IN THIS LANE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN IN THE SAME SPOT ON WAY TO WORK THE FOLLOWING WEEK. AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE TO HAVE THIS CHECKED AT DEALERSHIP. NOTHING WAS FOUND WRONG, AND DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE SOMETIMES CAN HAPPEN ONCE OR TWICE PER WEEK, OR MAY HAPPEN ONCE IN 2-3 WEEKS. ABOUT 1 1/2 MONTHS LATER WIFE NOTICED WHEN BACKING DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY WHICH IS STEEP, THE SAME ISSUE WITH BRAKING. WE MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AT DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED. STILL UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, OR FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IN SEPTEMBER 2007, A LOCAL NEWSPAPER ADVISED OF THIS PROBLEM. WE CONTACTED THE NHTSA AND CHRYSLER, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT A RECALL OF REPROGRAMMING SOME BRAKING MODULE WILL BE OUT BY THE END OF THE MONTH. IT IS OCTOBER 23, NO RECALL YET. I LOOKED ON YOUR WEBSITE AND CHRYSLER HAS THIS LABELED AS A "G40" RECALL, TO START IN OCTOBER. TODAY I TELEPHONED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY NO NOTHING ABOUT THIS RECALL, IN FACT THEY LOOKED IN THEIR CHRYSLER COMPUTER SYSTEM, AND IT IS NOT EVEN LISTED. I FEEL THIS IS UNCALLED FOR AS MY WIFE IS PETRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. SOMEONE AT CHRYSLER IS "DROPPING THE BALL" AND THIS NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BY BRAKES THAT DO NOT WORK, OR INTERMITTENTLY FAIL. SO THEY REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER,I GOT IT BACK AND AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE SAME PROBLEMS STARTED AGAIN JUST NOT AS BAD, EACH TIME I DRIVE IT IT GETS WORST JUST NOT AS FREQUENT,NOW WITH THE BRAKES, THE ESP/BAS LIGHT COMES ON, WHEN ITS ON THE BRAKES ARE REAL TOUCHY LIKE SUDDEN STOPPING ,AND LUNGING YOU FORWARD, THE DEALER CUT THE ROTORS FOR A PULSATION BUT DID NOTHING ABOUT THE LIGHT COMING ON! IN PURCHASING A 2007 DODGE NITRO IT HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR ALMOST 30 DAYS WITH IN A 5 MONTH PERIOD. FIRST, DEFECTIVE BRAKES AND NOW FOR THE 5TH TIME STALLING WHILE DRIVING ALONG WITH INSTRUMENT LIGHTS FLASHING ON AND ERRATIC JERKING AROUND. I DON'T KNOW HOW ELSE TO EXPLAIN IT. THE CAR DECIDES TO TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION NEARLY CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
