Significant amount of fuel spills from tank, down the side of vehicle and onto the ground during refueling. Unavoidable unless stopped at least a gallon prior to filling tank. This requires guessing the amount of fuel the tank can hold based off miles driven and/or fuel gauge readings. With practice I have been able to minimize the fuel spillage on my part but it still happens. I am in violation of state laws regarding refueling and pollution each time there is an incident. Further more, I have had a major safety issue resulting from loaning the vehicle to another driver. Post fill up resulting in said spillage; it was reported to me that a cigarette was tossed from a vehicle immediately after pulling from the pump, hitting the rear quarter panel covered in gasoline. Fortunately it just missed the fresh spill.
WHEN GETTING FUEL, THE VAPORS IN THE TANK WILL NOT ALLOW THE TANK TO FILL UP WITHOUT HAVING TO HAVE THE GAS NOZZLE UPSIDE DOWN. WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, THE NOZZLE DOES NOT STOP AND GAS SPEWS FROM THE TANK. AFTER DRIVING AWAY ONCE THE TANK IS FULL THE CAR STARTS TO BUCK AND SHAKE
WHEN PUTTING FUEL INTO THE TANK AT A GAS STATION PUMP, THE FUEL DOESN'T STOP WHEN THE TANK IS FULL AND SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE CAR. DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW I AM PUTTING FUEL INTO THE TANK. DODGE, YOU HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS SINCE 2008. WHY HAVE YOU NOT ISSUED A RECALL?
WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF, THE VEHICLE SHOOTS GASOLINE BACK OUT AT ME, ABOUT A HALF GALLON ITS GETS ON THE CAR AND ONTO THE GROUND, THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!
SPEWS FUEL WHEN FUELING .USED 1/4TH OF A TANK AND WAS AT STOP LIGHT AND GAS CAP BLEW OFF AND GAS SPEWED OUTSIDE AND SMELLED LIKE RAW FUEL INSIDE FOR 2 DAYS.
EVERY TIME I PUMPED GAS INTO MY TRUCK, I GET A FUEL SHOWER FROM THE FUEL SHOOTING BACK OUT. IT HAS A DANGEROUS PROJECTILE AND IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. PUTTING GAS IN MY 2007 DODGE NITRO HAS BECOME A FEAR TO ME. NOR WAS I EVER INFORMED OF ANY RECALL. MOST RECENTLY, IT HAPPED 11/29/2019 WHEN I WENT TO FILL UP AGAIN.
WHEN ADDING FUEL THE GASOLINE ALWAYS SPITS BACK OUT WHEN TANK IS FULL SPILLING GASOLINE OVER THE TRUCK TIRE AND GROUND. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS A LITTLE AFTER I PURCHASED THE NITRO NEW, BUT MACK MASSEY DODGE IN EL PASO, TX SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. SO WHY AM I STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THROUGHOUT ALL THESE YEARS?
FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME THAT WE FILL THE TANK. WHEN THE GAS IS FILLED, THE NOZZLE IS FULLY INSERTED IN THE TANK AND WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT-OFF SPILLING GAS EVERYWHERE UNTIL I MANUALLY STOP THE NOZZLE.
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK, GAS PUMP CLICKS FOR FULL AND GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE TANK ALL OVER THE GROUND AND PERSON FILLING THE TANK. VERY DANGEROUS AS GAS IS ALSO ALL OVER THAT PART OF THE CAR. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMPLAINT FROM A LOT OF PEOPLE YET THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.

I WAS TOLD THIS IS A VENT VALVE/CHECK VALVE DEFAULT AND THIS VALVE IS SUPPOSED TO SHUT DOWN THE GAS TO PREVENT AN EXPLOSION IN AN ACCIDENT. DODGE HAD A RECALL FOR THEIR JEEP BUT NEVER ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE NITRO!! DODGE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE FUEL TANK WITH NO COST TO ME.
REFUELING SPILLAGE DODGE NITRO R/T WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL OVERFLOWS UP THRU THE FILLER NECK AND ONTO THE PERSON WHO IS REFUELING THE SUV, THUS CAUSING IT TO SPILL OVER THE PAINT OF THE CAR WITH APPROXIMATELY 30 - 50OZ OF GAS. UNFORTUNATELY THIS OCCURS ABOUT 70% OF THE TIME THE NITRO IS FUELED UP. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO A RECALL I HAD ON MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO. AS YOU FILL UP VEHICLE WITH GAS MAKE A CLICKING SOUND WHEN FULL AND SPILL OUT OF TANK GETTING GAS ON CAR. THIS CAN CAUSE A FIRE AND IS HAZARDOUS TO THE ENVIRONMENT.THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BACK IN 2007.

WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK IF I DO NOT MANUALLY STOP THE PUMP BEFORE THE TANK IS FULL, THE TANK WILL OVERFLOW. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AT MULTIPLE STATIONS USING MULTIPLE PUMPS. THE TANK DOES NOT ALLOW THE PUMPS TO AUTO SHUTOFF FUNCTION TO WORK
DURING REFUELING MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN "BURPING" GAS BACK WHEN NEAR FULL. AT FIRST THIS WAS OCCURRING WHEN USING THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON GAS PUMP HANDLES, BUT IT CONTINUED TO DO SO EVEN WHEN MANUALLY OPERATING GAS PUMP HANDLES. AFTER SEARCHING THROUGH FORUMS WITH THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS IT'S A KNOWN FAULT WITH THE ROLL-OVER VALVE WHICH DODGE IS CORRECTING AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. HAVING A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT THAT CAUSES FUEL TO SPILL IN QUANTITY (ESTIMATING A PINT OR MORE) WHEN REFUELING AND THE DISTINCT PROBABLY THAT FUEL WOULD SPILL IN THE EVENT OF A ROLL-OVER IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE FORCED INTO PAYING FOR.
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK IT SPEWS GAS OUT OF TANK ALL OVER THE VEHICLE, GROUND AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS NEARBY. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TANK AS SOON AS THE PUMP STOPS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK, FUEL SPILLED OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK THE PUMP AT THE GAS STATION SHUTS OFF BUT I HAVE FUEL THAT BURPS BACK OUT. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND ABOUT THESE CARS IS THAT THERE IS A FUEL SHUTOFF VALVE ON THE GAS TANK TO PREVENT FIRES/EXPLOSIONS IN THE EVENT OF A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT THAT IS DEFECTIVE. MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THIS CAUSES ME CONCERN FOR MY AND OTHERS SAFTEY. I WOULD LIKE CHRYSLER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET AS THEY KNOW THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS.
