TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BECOME LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
REGARDLESS OF WHICH STATION I USE, GAS OVERFLOWS FROM MY TANK EVERY TIME I REFUEL. IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS, I HAVE TO STOP FUELING BECAUSE IT NEVER AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF. I'VE READ BLOGS & TALKED TO OTHER DODGE NITRO AND JEEP OWNERS AND THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. NOT ONLY IS THIS DAMAGING TO THE VEHICLE, IT IS UNSAFE TO HAVE GAS SPILLING OVER AT THE STATIONS AND HAVING GAS ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUEL WOULD SPEW OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK WHEN REFUELING TO CAPACITY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE IN THE CHECK VALVE, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. UPDATED 8/23/12 *CN
ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHEN FILLING MY VEHICLE WITH GAS WHEN THE PUMP SHUT OFF IT SPLASHED OUT QUITE A BIT OF FUEL. I THOUGHT OK ONE TIME. MY VEHICLE CONTINUES TO DO THIS NOW. BECAUSE OF THIS I JUST PUT IN SO MANY GALLONS OF FUEL AND TURN OFF MYSELF. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID WOULD HAVE TO BRING IN AND PAY TO HAVE IT TESTED. I HAVE SEEN ONLINE THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE NITRO. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS IT COULD SPLASH IN EYES, ETC. IF YOU ARE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I WOULD THINK THERE WOULD B A RECALL BY NOW. I HAVE LEFT 3 MESSAGES FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO CALL ME TO DISCUSS THIS BUT NO ONE RETURNS MY CALLS. *TR
FUEL COMES RUSHING OUT ALL OVER VEHICLE AND ALL OVER PERSONS FILLING THE GAS TANK. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME IT IS FILLED UP. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVERS DOOR BROKE LEAVING THE DRIVER UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVE WAS ABLE TO EXIT BY USE OF THE EXTERIOR HANDLE ON THE SAME DOOR BUT THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE CASE IF THE WINDOW WAS NOT FUNCTIONAL. *TR
THE GAS TANK VALVE INSIDE THE TANK FOR SAFETY IS BROKEN. WITH OUT THIS VALVE GAS WILL BE RELEASED IN ANY ACCIDENT. IT ALSO CAUSES THE GAS TANK TO OVER FILL WHEN FILLING UP. *TR
MY DODGE NITRO IS NOT ABLE TO PASS SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO NON-WORKING PARKING BRAKE. MECHANIC INSPECTED ROTORS AND DRUMS. EVERYTHING LOOKED OKAY. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE TOO MUCH SLACK AND BRAKE HANDLE BUT NO WAY TO ADJUST. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEM; EVEN A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION NITROS, MINE IS AUTOMATIC. I FEEL A RECALL IS WARRANTED. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP MY 2007 DODGE NITRO GAS SPEW OUT WITH FORCE ON MYSELF AND THE SIDE OF THE SUV. WHEN UNLOCKING OR LOCKING MY VEHICLE SOMETIME THE COOLING FAN AND RADIO WILL TURN ON. BOTH OF MY BACK WINDOWS DON'T NOT WORK. *TR

2007 DODGE NITRO-AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION-PARKING BRAKE FAILURE: VEHICLE AT DEALER FOR PARKING BRAKE FAILING TO ENGAGE. DEALER FINDS THAT ALL PARKING BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE RUSTED AND FROZEN. DEALER STATES APPEARS PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER ENGAGED. DEALER STATES ISSUE HAS CAUSED RUST TO FORM ON INSIDE OF REAR WHEEL ROTORS CAUSING PREMATURE NEED FOR REPLACEMENT. HAVE NOTICED SIMILAR ISSUES ON WEB SEARCHES. ITEM IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH LATER MODELS HAVE RECALL, NONE FOR THIS YEAR MODEL. VEHICLE HAS 54000 MILES ON IT AND IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. *TR

I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURN GREEN I WAS ABOUT TO GO WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY TRUCK NEVER MOVED.THE DRIVE SHAFT COMPLETELY BROKE IN HALF ,IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO TAKE OFF THE DRIVE SHAFT BROKE , SHOT UP AND HIT THE FLOOR BOARD AND THAT CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT TIRES EXHIBITED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF CHIPPING RUBBER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE CENTER WHERE THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE TIRES WERE REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE WOULD SPILL FROM THE FUEL TANK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED. GAS OVERFLOW WHEN FILLING. REPORTS OF "ROLLOVER VALVE IN TANK NOT SEALING" HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TO DODGE BUT NO RECALL AS OF YET. "THE FUEL TANK ROLLOVER VALVE CAN ALLOW FUEL TO PASS INTO THE VAPOR CANISTER RESULTING IN THE POTENTIAL FOR FUEL LEAKAGE. " *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL WOULD OVERFLOW AND ONTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY BE A ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK THAT WAS FAULTY. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ROLLOVER VALVE SHOULD BE REPLACED BECAUSE IN THE EVENT THAT THE VEHICLE DID ROLLOVER, ALL OF THE GASOLINE WOULD SPILL. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
WHEN OUR 2007 DODGE NITRO IS FUELED UP IT OVER FLOWS OUT OF THE GAS TANK NECK. WHEN FUELING THE GAS PUMP NOZZLE WILL SHUT OFF AS IT SHOULD BUT THEN APPROXIMATELY A QUART OF GAS WILL COME SHOOTING OUT OF THE GAS TANK NECK AND WITH THIS AMOUNT OF FUEL SPILLING IT APPEARS TO ME TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT HAS ALSO SHOT OUT AND CONSEQUENTLY COVERED MY PANTS AND SHOES WITH GASOLINE AND THEN TO HAVE TO GET IN YOUR VEHICLE AND DRIVE HOME IS DISGUSTING BECAUSE OF THE SMELL. THE SPILLING OCCURS EVERY TIME THAT YOU FUEL UP EVEN WHEN YOU KICK THE NOZZLE OFF MANUALLY WHEN NEAR FULL. THIS IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THANK GOD A FIRE HAS NOT OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THE FUEL SPILLING. THE DODGE DEALER INFORMS ME THAT IT IS GOING TO REQUIRE A NEW GAS TANK AT THE COST OF $364.00 PLUS LABOR. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD WITH 32,000 MILES, WHICH I HAVE OWNED SINCE BRAND NEW. *TR
MY NITRO SPEWS GAS ALL OVER WHEN I AM FILLING IT TOO. TALKED TO DEALER,THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE PUMP. NOT THE CASE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT MANY, MANY DIFFERENT PUMPS. CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND THEY THREW ANOTHER STORY AT ME THAT WAS A TOTAL LIE. EVERYTIME I FILL UP IF I DON'T LISTEN CLOSE ENOUGH IT SHOOTS GAS OUT THE FILLER NECK AND ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER THAT THEY REFUSE TO ADDRESS AND PAY FOR. I AM CALLING AN ATTORNEY THIS WEEK TO HAVE THEM ADDRESS THIS. HOPEFULLY CHRYSLER WILL ABSORB ALL COSTS. 2007 DODGE NITRO - 83,000 MILES - DRIVERS SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY DURING NORMAL USE. THIS MADE EXITING THE VEHICLE SLOW AND DIFFICULT IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. YOU HAD TO CLIMB OVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE OR ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW UNLOCK THE DOOR AND OPERATE THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. *TR
HI I BOUGHT MY 2007 DODGE NITRO IN 2007, I HAVE NOT HAD MANY ISSUES A FEW MINOR ONES NO BIGGIE. BUT RECENTLY THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON THEN GOING AWAY COMING ON THEN GOING AWAY. IT WAS GETTING ME AGGRAVATED. EVERYTIME I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER THEY SAID NO EVERYTHING IS FINE OK SURE. LATELY EVERYTIME I GO TO FILL UP MY TANK IT HAS BEEN OVERFLOWING. SO I WAS REALLY FED UP I TOOK IT IN AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM (DEALER) THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WILL NEED A NEW FUEL TANK AND FILL NECK. NOW I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND APPARENTLY IM NOT THE ONLY NITRO OWNER GOING THROUGH THIS ISSUE. I HEAR THAT THE VALVE IS DEFECTIVE AND THAT IT'S A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT IT. NOW BEAR IN MIND WE HAVE ALL BEEN DRIVING A CAR GOD FORBID GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR BLOWS UP BECAUSE OF THAT. I AM NOT HAPPY I WILL PURSUE THIS AND MY SERVICE BETTER GET COVERED THANK GOD I GOT THE EXTRA WARRANTY!!!! THE WIPER BLADES STOPPED WORKING DURING A RAIN STORM AND THE TURN SIGNALS WOULDN'T WORK, COULDN'T TURN THE HEAD LAMPS OFF OR ON.
WHEN PUMPING FUEL INTO OUR FAMILYS 2007 DODGE NITRO, A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE SPILLS ALL OVER THE PERSON, THE CAR, AND THE GROUND AT THE GAS STATION. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER WHAT GAS STATION IS USED. IT IS A SAFETY DEFECT FULLY KNOWN TO CHRYSLER-DODGE, AND MAY BE CAUSED BY A PART SUPPLIER DEFECT. THE ALLEGEDLY DEFECTIVE PART IS A FUEL CHECK VALVE THAT IS BUILT INTO THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO FIX THE DEFECTIVE PART SO IT IS A MAJOR REPAIR. THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS APPARENTLY INVOLVED IN PREVENTING TANK EXPLOSIONS SHOULD THE VEHICLE ROLL OVER. SINCE THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS LIKELY INSTALLED IN MANY THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES, THERE IS CONCERN THIS DEFECT COULD LEAD TO FUEL TANK DETONATIONS IN NITROS AND JEEP LIBERTIES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. IN ADDITION, THIS DEFECT WILL LIKELY LEAD TO FUTURE EXPLOSIONS AT FUELING STATIONS SINCE GASOLINE POURS UNCONTROLLABLY AND PROFUSELY OUT OF THE GAS TANK. CHRYSLER DODGE INFORMED ME DIRECTLY THEY HAVE ISSUED EXTENDED WARRANTIES TO CERTAIN CHRYSLER VEHICLES (IN LIEU OF A RECALL) BECAUSE, AS A DODGE RECALL REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME BY TELEPHONE ON 3/28/11, THEY HAD ISSUES WITH THE SAME FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE FOR OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. BUT, DESPITE HAVING THE EXACT SAME SAFETY DEFECT WITH MY 2007 DODGE NITRO, CHRYSLER-DODGE HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL OR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS VEHICLE. DOES A FAMILY HAVE TO DIE TRAGICALLY BEFORE CHRYSLER DODGE ISSUES A GENUINE RECALL FOR A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT IS FULL KNOWN TO THEIR COMPANY?
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK WITH AN AUTOMATIC CUT OFF NOZZLE, THERE IS SEVERE SPLASH BACK AS THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF THE GAS SUPPLY. GAS SPUTS OUT OF THE FILLER PIPE UNDER PRESSURE. THIS IS A REAL FIRE HAZARD PLUS QUITE A MESS IF IT GETS ON THE DRIVER/GAS PUMP USER. REPEATED SURGES WILL LIKELY TAKE THE PAINT OFF THE LEFT REAR FENDER. IF I ESTIMATE THAT THE TANK WILL TAKE ABOUT 14 GALLONS, I STOP THE DELIVERY AT 11 GALLONS, REMOVE THE NOZZLE AND SHAKE THE VEHICLE. THEN I REINSERT THE NOZZLE AND STOP AT EACH GALLON UNTIL FULL. EVEN WITH THIS TECHNIQUE, THERE MAY BE A MILD SPLASH BACK. THIS TECHNIQUE MAKES FUELING THE VEHICLE A REAL CHORE WHICH IS AN AGGRAVATION! *KB

I OWN A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4, BOUGHT IT IN 2010 SINCE BUYING IT I HAVE HAD PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH FILLING THE TANK. IT SEEMS THAT WHEN I WOULD FILL THE TANK TO THE POINT THAT THE PUMP SHUTS OFF I WOULD HAVE FUEL SHOOT BACK OUT AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND. EXCUSE BUT DO WE NOT SEE A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE? TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FIRST THEY REPLACED A CANISTER LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN THEY CHECKED THE FUEL TANK VACUUM LINE FOR KINKED LINE AGAIN NOT FIXED. FINALLY THEY DETERMINED THE ROLL OVER VALVE IS FAULTY SO THEY REPLACED THE TANK OUT OF MY POCKET. MY MILEAGE WAS ONLY IN THE 30,000 RANGE AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY SUBJECT AND STILL DODGE REFUSES TO MAKE THIS RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FUEL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE. WHEN FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK, GAS OVERFLOWS AND DOES NOT GET SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY GAS STATION, AT ANY PUMP, SO IT IS DEFINITELY WITH THE VEHICLE ITSELF. IT STARTED A WHILE AGO, BUT HAS GOTTEN MORE FREQUENT AND MORE GAS SPILLING. CURRENTLY IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME AND IS A FAIR AMOUNT OF GAS. ANY STATIC ELECTRICITY SPARK HITTING THAT SPILLED FUEL AND TRAVELING UP INTO THE GAS TANK WOULD BE DISASTROUS. THERE ARE DODGE NITRO FORUMS WHERE TONS OF OTHER OWNERS TALK ABOUT THE PROBLEM TOO. ON TOP OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THOUSANDS OF NITRO OWNERS SPILLING FUEL, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY. *TR

WHEN FUELING UP MY DODGE NITRO A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, AN ANNOYING PROBLEM BEGAN TO SURFACE. RATHER THAN CUTTING OFF WHEN FULL, THE GAS WOULD OVERFLOW. THIS OCCURRED EVERY TIME THAT I FUELED UP NO MATTER WHERE I WAS FUELING. THIS IS DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF A VALVE IN THE GAS TANK. UPON RESEARCHING, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS MORE THAN JUST AN ANNOYANCE, AND RUINING THE PAINT, BUT IT IS DANGEROUS. IF MY VEHICLE WERE TO BE INVOLVED IN A ROLL OVER ACCIDENT THE MALFUNCTION OF THIS VALVE WILL CAUSE THE LEAKAGE OF FUEL AND POSSIBLE EXPLOSION OF THE VEHICLE. MY 2007 DODGE NITRO SPILLS GASOLINE EVERY TIME I PUMP GAS. THE PUMP FAILS TO SHUT OFF AND GASOLINE SPEWES OUT OF THE FILL TUBE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE PAVEMENT AND ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS MY LEGS AND SHOES. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND PUMPS AND ONLY STARTED RECENTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY VENT VALVE INSIDE THE TANK THAT MUST BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION THE FAULTY VALVE IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT EXPLOSIONS IN CASE THE VEHICLE ROLLS OVER. IF THIS VALVE IS FAULTY THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR NITRO OWNERS. *TR

WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS EVERY TIME THAT I WENT TO FILL UP MY GAS TANK, GAS WOULD START POURING OUT OF THE GAS TANK. IT'S SOMETHING THAT IS FAULTY WITH THEIR GAS TANKS AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS SEEING AN ISSUE.
