TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK INDEPENDENTLY. THE PROBLEM RECURRED ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY WHILE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. THE ABS AND SKID LIGHTS CONSTANTLY BLINK ON AND OFF. WHEN THE SKID LIGHT COMES ON THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN DRASTICALLY AND QUICKLY EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. THE CAR IS ALSO NOW SPUTTERING. THIS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, EVERYDAY AT ANY SPEED.. *TR
I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF EXISTING MY VEHICLE, WHEN I PULLED TO OPEN THE DOOR, THE LATCH JUST BROKE OFF. THE LATCH SEEMS LIKE IT'S MADE OF PLASTIC. NOW, I WOULD NEED TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. I'M CONCERNED TO THE REPERCUSSION IF I HAPPEN TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. I CONTACTED [XXX] AND SPOKE WITH A REP NAME[XXX]. EVERY TIME I GO TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP, GAS OVERFLOWS.
(1) THE BRAKE LIGHT ON TOP OF MY TAIL GATE IS OUT. THE COST OF THIS LIGHT IS $79.50. THE COST OF THE OTHER 2 SIDE BRAKE LIGHTS IS $2.50 EACH. I WILL GO TO JAIL FOR HAVING A LIGHT OUT BEFORE I PAY $80. FOR THIS 3RD LIGHT. WHAT DO I DO? (2) THE FRONT AMBER MARKER LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT. THESE LIGHTS ARE ONLY $2.50 EACH BUT IT WILL COST ME $95 TO CHANGE ONE OF THEM BECAUSE THE FRONT OF THE CAR HAS TO COME OFF TO CHANGE IT. THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. WHAT DO I DO? (3) THE DOOR MOUNTED REAR VIEW MIRRORS ARE TOO BIG AND MOUNTED TOO HIGH. THE MIRROR ALONG WITH THE WINDSHIELD POST CREATES A HUGE BLIND SPOT WHEN LOOKING FOR TRAFFIC COMING FROM THE RIGHT OR WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT. AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH I ALMOST PULL OUT INTO A CAR IN THAT BLIND SPOT. VERY DANGEROUS AND POOR ENGINEERING. WHAT DO I DO? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR BRAKE LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY HAD OVERHEATED CAUSING THE WIRING TO MELT. THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,107.
I STARTED THE CAR TO MOVE IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER BACKING UP, I PUT IT IN PARK. I THEN TRIED TO PLACE IT IN DRIVE, AND THE SHIFTER LOCK WOULDN'T RELEASE. (IT NORMALLY RELEASES WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.) AFTER A FEW TRIES, I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION TO RESTART THE CAR, ALL THE ELECTRONICS ACTIVATED, THE HEADLIGHTS WERE FLASHING, THE HORN WAS CYCLING, THE WIPERS AND SPRAYERS WERE RUNNING, ETC. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND POPPED THE HOOD RELEASE. WHEN I GOT OUT AND WALKED TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED LIGHT COMING FROM THE HOOD GAP. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD, FLAMES WERE SURROUNDING ALL SIDES OF THE TIPM UNIT, AND THE HOOD INSULATION LINER WAS ON FIRE. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
MY 2007, DODGE NITRO'S AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK SYSTEM WORKS INTERMEDIATELY. MOST OF THE TIME I AM UNABLE TO LOCK MY CAR USING THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE DOORS, OR USING THE KEY FOB. THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK MY CAR DOORS IS TO MANUALLY PUSH DOWN THE LOCK ON EACH DOOR, UNFORTUNATELY I AM UNABLE TO LOCK THE TRUNK DOOR/HATCH ENTIRELY BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE AN EXTERNAL LOCK. THUS, LEAVING MY CAR VULNERABLE TO THEFT. I TRAVEL A LOT AND I AM WORRIED TO LEAVE ANYTHING IN MY CAR SINCE IT WILL NEVER COMPLETELY LOCKS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE IN THIS VEHICLE, ONE OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS AMONG NITRO OWNERS. IN 2007 THERE WAS A RECALL ON DODGE DOOR LOCK SYSTEMS, BUT FOR SOME REASON THIS MAKE/MODEL WASN'T RECALLED. PLEASE HELP! IT COSTS OVER $1,000 TO FIX AND IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE! FRONT LEFT SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE AS I OPENED THE DOOR TO EXIT MY VEHICLE. *TR
MY CHILD AND I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN THE COMPLETE LOSS OF OUR VEHICLE. THE BOTTOM OF CAR WAS LEAKING AND IT ACCORDING TO BYSTANDERS CAUGHT FIRE. THE COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS THE FACT THAT I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FOR MY VEHICLE BACK IN THE MONTH OF MAY AND CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR 3 MONTHS TO SCHEDULE THE SAFETY RECALL REPAIR OF THE UNDERBODY TRANSMISSION TUNNEL SHIELD, BUT EVERY TIME I CALLED I WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE 3 MONTHS I TRIED TO FOLLOW UP ONLY TO LEARN THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING DURING THE ACCIDENT. I WAS AND AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED AT THE CONTINUOUS RECALL NOTICES AFTER THE FACT OF MY ATTEMPTS. PLEASE CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE DEALERSHIPS IMMEDIATELY. THANK YOU *TR
CHEAP HANDLE BROKE I OPENED THE DOOR NORMAL WITH NO FORCE AND IT SNAP.... *TR
THE FRONT LEFT INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE AS I WAS TRYING THE EXIT THE VEHICLE. IT APPEARS THAT THE CABLE AND HANDLE SEPARATED, LEAVING NO WAY FOR ME TO OPEN THE DOOR. THIS IS EXTREMELY ALARMING TO ME BECAUSE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. *TR

WAS DRIVING AND WAS FLAGGED DOWN AND TOLD MY RIGHT AND LEFT TAIL LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING. THE MIDDLE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON BUT THE RIGHT AND LEFT DO NOT WORK. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED, CHECKED THE FUSES AND REPLACED BOTH TAIL LIGHT CIRCUIT BOARDS WITH NOTHING WORKING. *TR
I WENT TO GRAB MY DOOR HANDLE WITH 2 FINGERS AND THE HANDLE JUST SNAPPED PREVENTING ME FROM EXITING MY VEHICLE. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY I FEAR THAT I AM UNABLE TO EXIT MY VEHICLE DUE TO THIS FAULTY HANDLE THAT HAS BEEN MANUFACTURED FOR THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY ISSUES THIS VEHICLE HAS IN ADDITION TO THE 7 OR 8 RECALLS FOR ISSUES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED. THIS WHOLE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED! ALMOST EVERY PLASTIC PART ON THIS VEHICLE HAS BROKEN OFF, CRACKED, OR MALFUNCTIONED. *TR

2007 DODGE NITRO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DRIVELINE TUNNEL SHIELD RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED, AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, AND THEY WOULD AVAILABLE IN TWO DAYS. THE CONSUMER STATED TWO DAYS, HAS SINCE TURNED INTO THREE MONTHS.
BACK DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HAS CAME OFF THE TRACK TWICE IN ABOUT 12 MONTHS, REPLACED MOTOR, STILL DID IT. EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS IT SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE CAR AND GROUND. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ONLY WORK ON HIGH SOME OF THE TIME. DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF, VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX! *TR
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE INSIDE BROKE. THE BOTTOM PLASTIC PART OF THE HINGE BROKE. CAN NOT OPEN NOW FROM INSIDE! RIDICULOUS!

THE CONTACT DIAGNOSED THAT THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,265.
I WAS TRAVELING UP THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF MY SERVICE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND I LOST COMPLETE ENGINE POWER. I ATTEMPTED TO GET MY VEHICLE TO THE TURNING LANE BUT IT WAS DIFFICULT BECAUSE OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I GOT IT TO THE TURNING LANE AND TRIED TO RESTART IT SEVERAL TIMES. THIS LASTED ABOUT 15-20 MINS TO NO AVAIL. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I THEN TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN THE NEXT TOWN WHERE THEY ALSO COULD NOT DUPLICATE MY INCIDENT. THE KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR 2 WEEKS AND STILL FOUND NOTHING WRONG, NO CODES OR ANYTHING. MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ALSO STAYING ILLUMINATED EVEN AFTER THEY UNHOOKED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER ENGINEERS FOR MORE HELP IN DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINEERS STATED THAT THEY WERE 90% SURE THAT IT WAS THE TPIM (MAIN COMPUTER). THE SAME TPIM WAS RECALLED IN 2007 AND WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. THE TPIM WAS NOT REPLACED DUE TO UNCERTAINTY OF THE ENGINEERS AND THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE APRIL OF 2007. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN ON OCTOBER 2, 2013, AND OCTOBER 8, 2013. ON OCTOBER 8, 2013 THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART FOR 10 MINUTES AND WAS ONCE AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT A RATE OF SPEED OF 50 MPH. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES KEEP BREAKING EASILY. WOULD RESULT IN FATALITY IN CASE OF FIRE. BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT WITH NEW BULBS. IT'S ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS TO OTHER DRIVERS ON ROAD AS WELL AS PASSENGERS. *TR

MY GIRLFRIEND WHO IS FAR FROM STRONG GOES TO GET OUT AND THE DOOR HANDLE SNAPS. OKAY SO NOT ONLY IS THIS A HAZARD BECAUSE THE DRIVER CAN'T GET OUT BUT I AM ALSO VERY UPSET. I THEN TAKE THE BACK DOOR HANDLE OFF AND REPLACE THE FRONT SO THAT WAY I FEEL BETTER ABOUT LETTING HER DRIVE THE CAR. A FEW MONTHS GO BY AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS BUT TO ME, I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THIS. HOW COULD A COMPANY EXPECT YOU TO PAY ABOUT 300$ TO FIX A DOOR WHEN IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND FAULTY CRAFTSMANSHIP? I CANNOT AFFORD THAT. NOW JUST THIS LAST AUGUST MY CO WORKER WENT TO GET OUT OF THE PASSENGER DOOR AND IT SNAPPED ON HIM. SO NOW NO ONE CAN GET OUT OF THE CAR. NO ONE CAN RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE EITHER BECAUSE HE WINDOW WILL NOT ROLL DOWN. SO NOW IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF MY CAR I HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN OPEN DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THEN ROLL MY WINDOW UP. WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANT GET MY WINDOW DOWN AND I NEED OUT? OR MY GIRLFRIEND? WE ENDED UP HEADED TOWARDS THE SKY AND TOOK A HARD HEAD NOSE INTO THE EARTH. WE THEN CAME UP TURNED IN THE OTHER DIRECTIONS ROCKING AND ROLLING IN A DRY SHALLOW CREEK BED IN NEVADA. WE WENT UP AGAIN AND LANDED WITH TWO FLAT TIRES, IN GEAR, GOING NO WHERE. MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY! MY HUBBY HAD A HUGE LACERATION ON THE INSIDE OF HIS FOREARM. FOUND OUT LATER IN EMERGENCY THAT THE DODGE EMBLEM PROPELLED INTO HIS ARM. THE EMBLEM IS VERY CONCERNING. IT COULD HAVE KNOCKED OUT HIS EYE, ENTERED HIS HEART OR EVEN SLASHED HIS THROAT. IT SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM ALL DODGES. *TR
MY NITRO HAS ENGINE LIGHT ON , MY TIRE SENSOR SHOWS THAT I DON'T HAVE ANY TIRE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR , AIRBAG LIGHT ON . VERY SCARY TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON . WHEN I CAME BACK FROM PICKING UP LUNCH TODAY, I PARKED MY CAR AND WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT. THE HANDLE ON MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. AFTER LOOKING UP SOME INFORMATION ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THIS CAR HAS A HISTORY OF THE DOOR HANDLES BREAKING. IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT TODAY I WOULD HAVE TO CLIMB OUT OF ANOTHER DOOR (AND OF COURSE IF I WAS INJURED THIS COULD BE VERY DIFFICULT), BUT IF, BY SOME COINCIDENCE, ANOTHER DOOR HANDLE BROKE, I COULD POTENTIALLY END UP TRAPPED IN MY CAR. *TR
AFTER PARKING, I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR AND THE HANDLE SNAPPED. I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND HAD TO CRAWL ACROSS THE FRONT SEAT TO GET OUT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AND FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, A LOT OF OTHER NITRO OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
HAD MADE AND APT TO TAKE TRUCK IN FOR RECALL FOR UNDERBODY TRANSMISSION TUNNEL SHIELD AT 1 PM ON SAT .ON THE WAY TO WORK . NO WARNING SIGNS TRUCK NO LIGHT INDICATOR ON TRUCK STARTED TO MAKE LOUD NOISE WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING . WE PULLED UP TO THE STOP LIGHT AND TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON IT STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE AGAIN SO HE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT AND THEN IT JUST STOP WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR TURN BACK ON AND THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME OWN . WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP . ASK THEM TO DO THE REPAIR ON THE RECALL STILL NOT DONE 3 DAYS LATER SO I CANNOT EVEN TOW VEHICLE TO MY HOUSE . TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO GO FROM THERE HAVE CONTACTED THE RECALL HOTLINE THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING . FILED A COMPLAINT TO THEM THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK IN TO IT AND GET BACK TO ME . THE DEALERSHIP SAID FOR 700 DOLLARS THEY CAN BREAK THE TRANSMISSION DOWN TO SEE IF THE TWO ARE CONNECTED WHO HAS MONEY TO WAS THIS IS CRAZY AND I SEE YOU HAVE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT STATING VEHICLES AND TRANSMISSIONS THIS IS DANGEROUS THANKFULLY IT WAS A SAT AND NO TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND MY SON WAS IN THE CAR IN THE BACK SEAT AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A REAR END ACCIDENT WHICH IS WERE MOST CHILDREN RIDE IN THE BACK FOR SAFETY THAT IS A JOKE WITH THE NITRO I HOPE YOU TAKE THIS AS SERIOUS AS I DO A S A CONCERNED PARENT IT IS ALARMING TO KNOW THAT VEHICLES WITH THESE KINDS OF ISSUES ARE STILL BEING SOLD AND NOBODY WANTS TO FIX THE PROBLEMS IT IS MORE ABOUT MONEY THAN ACCIDENTS AND DEATH .THIS IS PROBABLY WHY PEOPLE HAVE STOP SUPPORTING DODGE AND CHRYSLER BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ABOUT SAFETY AND OWNERSHIP OF THERE BRAND AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR THERE DEFECTS WE ALSO HAD A DOOR HANDLE ON DRIVER SIDE BROKEN THIS SEEMS TO BE COMMON AS WELL . I WENT TO EXIT MY VEHICLE AND THE DOOR HANDLE SNAPPED. I WAS NOT USING EXCESSIVE FORCE, OR ANY EXTRA PRESSURE ON THE HANDLE. *TR

I HAD TO CRAWL ACROSS TO THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH AT MY AGE OF 51, WAS NOT EXACTLY AN EASY TASK SINCE THERE IS A CONSOLE IN BETWEEN THE TWO SEATS. NOW I'M FINDING OUT THAT IT IS GOING TO COST ALMOST $300 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PART. FOR HOW MUCH THIS VEHICLE COST, PLASTIC SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN USED ON SOMETHING USED AS OFTEN AS A DOOR HANDLE. *TR
IN JULY 2013 MY HUSBAND AND I WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 70 THE NITRO SHUT OFF AND DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. NO PROBLEM SHUTTING OFF AGAIN UNTIL NOVEMBER 9, 2013. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY CHILDREN ABOUT 65 AND IT SHUT OFF. ONCE AGAIN I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DODGE DEALER THIS TIME THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THE SERVICE GUY INFORMED US THAT THEY HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING WRONG AND THEY WERE IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND AS SOON AS THEY FIND THE PROBLEM THEY WOULD CONTACT US. AFTER A WEEK THE SERVICE GUY CALLED AND SAID THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH CHRYSLER AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT. HE STATED "THAT CHRYSLER WANTS THE COILS REPLACED BUT NOT SURE IF THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVEN'T FOUND." THE REPAIR WASN'T COVERED BY THE WARRANTY SO WE PAID THE $400. SO FAR SO GOOD BUT IT WAS 4 MONTHS FROM THE INITIAL SHUT OFF BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED!!! *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER FOR REPLACEMENT OF AN "UNDERBODY TRANSMISSION SHIELD". I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE (DODGE NITRO) TO ALLEN SAMUELS DODGE IN HOUSTON. AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, THE SERVICE ADVISOR ([XXX]) INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART FOR MY VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD TAKE 2 AND 1/2 MONTHS BEFORE THE PART WOULD ARRIVE AT THEIR DEALERSHIP. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I BELIEVE THE ADVISOR WAS ATTEMPTING TO DISCOURAGE ME FROM HAVING THE REPAIR DONE (SINCE THIS IS A REPAIR WHICH THEY WILL NOT RECEIVE PAYMENT/COMMISSION). TAKATA RECALL I LEASED MY DODGE NITRO IN 2007 AND DECIDED TO BUY IT OUT DUE TO OVER MILEAGE ALLOWANCE. ISSUES WITH THIS CAR STARTED SLOWLY AND ESCALATED OVER TIME. MY TIRES LOST AIR CONSTANTLY. NEW TIRES DIDN'T HELP. WINTER I HAVE TO PUT AIR IN ALL TIRES ONCE A WEEK. POSSIBLY DUE TO RIMS. WHEN BACKING UP THIS VEHICLE WOULD JOLT OUT ON ITS OWN NOT GIVING ME ENOUGH TIME TO REACT TO HITTING SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. THE ENGINE WAS SPORADIC WITH THE WAY IT HANDLED POWER AND ADMINISTERING IT THROUGHOUT FUNCTIONS. CONSTANT LEAKING OF FLUIDS. MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH POWER LOSS WAS GETTING ONTO HIGHWAY, SPED UP LOSING POWER AND LUCKILY ABLE TO REACH THE BREAK DOWN LANE SAFELY.AFTER SEVERAL TIMES THE DEALER TOOK IT IN AND SAID THEY FIXED IT. THEN TRUCK STARTED TO OVER HEAT AND ANTI FREEZE WOULD NOT STAY IN ENGINE AND OUT OF NO WHERE IT WOULD JUMP TO HOT,LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULL OVER ANYWHERE I COULD. AFTER 5 TIMES OR MORE HERB CHAMBERS COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY KEPT MY TRUCK FOR SEVERAL WEEKS FIXING MY HEAD GASKET , WATER PUMP AND 5 OTHER PARTS, THEY TOLD ME I WAS ALL SET TO GO. I DROVE OFF LOT 10 MINUTES UP THE HIGHWAY TO HAVE IT OVER HEAT LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AGAIN WITHOUT POWER BACK IT GOES TO REPLACE THE HEATING CORE ELEMENT. SIX MONTHS LATER I LOSE POWER AROUND A ROTARY, ON HIGHWAY AND IN A FEW PARKING LOTS.I DECIDE TO INVESTIGATE MY OPTIONS TO DISCOVER THERE IS A RECALL AND PURSUE THE DEALER ABOUT HOW UNSAFE THIS VEHICLE IS AND NO ONE EVER TOLD ME IT HAD A RECALL AND DID NOT FEEL SAFE GOING ANY FURTHER. I WAS TOLD TO SETTLE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND DIDN'T SEEM WORRIED SENDING ME &MY KIDS BACK INTO AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. I BECAME SICK DURING THE LAST FEW YRS OF THIS AND AM STILL BATTLING WITH MY HEALTH. SOME OF THIS PROLONGED TIME HAS BEEN A RESULT OF NOT HAVING THE MENTAL OR PHYSICAL CAPABILITY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V21000 (AIR BAGS, POWER TRAIN, STRUCTURE) BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
UPON TRYING TO EXIT MY PARKED VEHICLE, THE DOOR HANDLE JUST BROKE RIGHT OFF WHEN I PULLED ON IT TO OPEN THE DOOR. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF THE WINDOWS FAIL OR IF THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF A CRASH IN WHICH QUICK EXIT WAS IMPORTANT, I WOULD BE TRAPPED IN MY VEHICLE. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE IN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REPLACE THE HANDLE, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NITROS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAS NOT PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECALLED DUE TO SAFETY. BEING TRAPPED IN A VEHICLE DUE TO HANDLE FAILURE IS A BIG PROBLEM. *TR
