UPON TRYING TO EXIT MY PARKED VEHICLE, THE DOOR HANDLE JUST BROKE RIGHT OFF WHEN I PULLED ON IT TO OPEN THE DOOR. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF THE WINDOWS FAIL OR IF THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF A CRASH IN WHICH QUICK EXIT WAS IMPORTANT, I WOULD BE TRAPPED IN MY VEHICLE. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE IN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REPLACE THE HANDLE, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NITROS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAS NOT PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECALLED DUE TO SAFETY. BEING TRAPPED IN A VEHICLE DUE TO HANDLE FAILURE IS A BIG PROBLEM. *TR
OUR 2007 DODGE NITRO HAS A RECALL ON IT (N10) I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT FIXED SINCE LATE JUNE/2013 TO EARLY JULY/2013 WITH NO PREVAIL IT IS MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE AND GET WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER RECALL DEPARTMENT ASKING TO GET A LOANER UNTIL THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. EVERYTIME I CALL THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAY THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON THE PARTS TO REPAIR IT.ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO NEXT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. HORN GOES OFF ON IT OWN, EVEN WHILE DRIVING. STARTS WON'T START, BATTERY IS NOT DEAD. DOORS LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN. PASSENGER DOOR CONTROLS THE DRIVE SETTING FOR LOCKING AND UNLOCKING CAR, SHUTTING RADIO OFF. THE DRIVE DOOR WILL LOCK AND NOT LET YOU OUT, EVEN TRYING TO PULL IT UP MANUAL AND IT WON'T LET YOU. HAVE TO USE KEY IN DOOR TO UNLOCK AND QUICKLY OPEN BEFORE IT LOCKS AGAIN. IN AN ACCIDENT THIS COULD BE A BIG PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE WIRING HARNESS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000. KMJ

THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN INTERIM LETTER FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 13V121000 (AIR BAGS , POWER TRAIN , STRUCTURE), WHICH INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REMEDY PART WAS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY DEFECT INVOLVED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICE PERFORMED WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE VEHICLE THE GAS OVERFLOWS ONTO THE CAR AND GAS STATION GROUND. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD FOR A FIRE TO START. I AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL EAT THE PAINT OFF BY THE FILL UP AS WELL. *TR
WENT ON A TRIP ABOUT 300 MILES AWAY FROM HOME. WHEN WE GOT THERE THE NEXT DAY MY REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS LOW. EVERY DAY SENSE THEN I HAVE HAD TO PUT AIR IN MY TIRE. TOOK IT TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND MY RIM HAD CRACKED ON THE INSIDE THEY SAID I MUST HAVE IT A POT HOLE ON THE TRIP. I HOW EVER WAS THE ONLY ONE DRIVING THE NITRO THE WHOLE TIME AND NOTHING WAS EVER HIT. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESES RIMS EVERY WINTER I HAVE TO GET THEM CLEANED B/C THEY ERODE AND CAUSE LEAKAGE. *TR
I AM LIVING IN PUERTO RICO AND I HAVE A 2007 DODGE NITRO, WHICH HAS A RECALL, UNDER BODY TRANSMISSION TUNNEL SHIELD 05/24/2013 INCOMPLETE I WENT TO CABRERA MOTORS WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR SO I CAN GET THE RECALL FIXED. I WENT ON JULY 11, 2013, AND WAS TOLD THE PART WOULD BE IN 2 WEEKS. HERE WE ARE AUGUST 20, 2013 AND STILL NO PART. I'VE CALLED MANY TIMES AND EVERY TIME I CALL I'M TOLD THE PART IS NOT IN. I JUST BOUGHT MY NITRO BUT EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK IT WILL CLICK OFF AT THE NOZZLE BUT THEN I GET GAS SPEWING BACK OUT! THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IT HAD BEEN SIX MONTHS SINCE SHE RECEIVED THE INITIAL LETTER AND SHE WAS CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY WITHOUT HAVING THE RECALL REMEDY PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
TOOK CAR IN FOR REPAIRS IN REGARDS TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER RECALL IN JANUARY 2013. TRUSTING THAT BERGERON DODGE TOOK CARE OF THE RECALLED ISSUE; I NEVER EXPECTED MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO STOP WORKING ALL TOGETHER. ON THE MORNING OF FRIDAY, MAY 3, DURING MY COMMUTE TO WORK, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING ON ALL PAUSE SETTINGS. SINCE IT WAS RAINING PROFUSELY THAT MORNING, THE HIGHER SETTING WAS OKAY TO USE. AS OF TODAY, I CANNOT DRIVE THE NITRO BECAUSE THE WIPERS HAVE STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER AND IS NOW A HAZARD TO DRIVE DURING THE RAIN. NOT ONLY DO I FEEL THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPAIRED IN JANUARY, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME $50 TO LOOK AT THE WIPERS. I AM UTTERLY AND TOTALLY DISGUSTED, FOR THE SIMPLE FACT I HAD TO PAY $150 AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL FOR BERGERON DODGE TO INFORM ME ON THE PRICE TO FIX THE BRAKES, REPLACE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR (BROKE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY/TOLD BY DEALERSHIP PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY), AND REPAIR HEAT SHIELD THAT JUST FELL OFF IN JANUARY 2013; NOW I HAVE TO PAY MORE MONEY FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY NEVER REPAIRED A PART THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT DODGE MUST THINK IS NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH TO FIX. ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE HORN KEPT GOING OFF. IN AN HOURS TIME THE THING MUST'VE GONE OFF AT LEAST 30 TIMES! I TOOK IT IN AND THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME 5 POSSIBLE CAUSES AS THE COMPUTER SCAN DIDN'T FIND ANY ISSUES/CODE. TODAY IT STARTED GOING OFF AGAIN. I WAS IN MY HOUSE, SO THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE THINKING I COULD POSSIBLY UNPLUG THE HORN, I NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WAS ON. NO KEY IN THE IGNITION! OVER THE LAST 5 MONTHS, THE HORN HAS GONE OFF BOTH WHILE AND WHILE NOT DRIVING IT, THE RADIO HAS COME ON WHEN NO ONE WAS IN THE CAR AND NO KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR HAS STALLED WHILE IT WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN THE ROAD. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED! I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE ISSUES. WHEN GOOGLING "2007 DODGE NITRO HORN GOING OFF" THERE ARE MULTIPLE STORIES OF THIS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE, WHICH INCLUDE ALL TYPES OF ELECTRIC ISSUES. SOME RESOLVED THE ISSUE WHEN A NEW TIPM WAS INSTALLED. DODGE/CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THE VEHICLE FOR FAULTY TIPM BEFORE PEOPLE GET SERIOUSLY INJURED! *TR
AIR BAGS WENT OFF WHEN THE DRIVESHAFT JUST BLEW BECAUSE APPARENTLY IT WAS MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM WHICH IS MAGNETIC AND CAUSES IT TO WEAR QUICKLY AND DRAWS OTHER PARTS TO IT CAUSING IT TO RUB AND RUPTURE; ALSO THE A/C ALWAYS GOES OUT. I HAD IT REPAIRED 3 TIMES ALL FOR FREON LEAKS. NOTHING GETS COVERED BECAUSE NOT ALL OF THE VEHICLES WERE MADE WITH THIS TERRIBLE ALUMINUM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD!!! I WAS ONLY GOING 40 MPH ON A SIDE ROAD WHEN THIS BLEW WITH MY GIRLFRIEND IN THE CAR. THE DRIVESHAFT BLEW, SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. SHE INJURED HER NECK AND BACK FROM THE JOLT. THERE IS NO REASON CORNERS SHOULD BE CUT TO MAKE A CHEAPER VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE! *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FOR THE BACK PASSENGER AND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BROKE INTERNALLY AND CAN NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. IF THERE IS A ACCIDENT, MY FAMILY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE WITHOUT HELP FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
ON APRIL 23, 2013 I TOOK OFF FROM A RED LIGHT AT THE TOP OF A HILL. AS I COASTED DOWN THE HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH, MY CAR'S ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WAS NOT ABLE TO USE THE BRAKES OR FULLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY, ENOUGH TO TURN THE CAR INTO A SIDE STREET AND YARD OF A HOME AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BY TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND PUT IT BACK IN AN THE CAR WOULD STILL NOT START. I OPENED THE DOOR TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THAT WERE STILL WORKING (RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC) AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR SUCCESSFULLY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. ON MAY 13, 2013 AS I WAS LEAVING WORK, MY CAR WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING. WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE CAR WOULD START AND SHUT OFF AFTER ABOUT 7 OR 8 SECONDS WHILE THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC) STAYED RUNNING. THIS OCCURRED THREE TIMES. ON THE FOURTH TRY, THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR. ON THE SECOND TRY, THE CAR WAS ABLE TO START AND STAY RUNNING. *TR

TOOK MY 2007 DODGE NITRO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ENGINE LIGHTS. AFTER ALL ISSUES WERE REPAIRED RELATED TO ENGINE LIGHTS, I WAS TOLD THE HEAT SHIELD HAD FALLEN AND WAS RESTING ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. THIS CAUSED A SHAVING OFF OF THE METAL ALONG A 6-8 INCH SPACE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD NO LONGER HONOR THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WAS FOR THE CAR TO BE IN HIGH WATER THUS DAMAGING THE HEAT SHIELD CAUSING IT TO WEAR DOWN THE METAL ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NO FACTORY-INSTALLED FASTENERS HOLDING THE HEAT SHIELD IN PLACE. I HAVE NOT EVER HAD MY CAR IN HIGH WATER AND UPON MY FURTHER EXAMINATION INCLUDING VIDEO DOCUMENTATION OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE, I POINTED OUT TO THE SERVICE TECH THAT THE FACTORY LABEL ON THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, MY OIL PAN LACKED DENTS OR DINGS, AND THERE APPEARED TO BE NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE UNDER CARRIAGE, NOR DID I HAVE ANY WATER RELATED INTERIOR ISSUES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STILL REFUSED TO COVER THE DRIVE SHAFT AND HEAT SHIELD REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTED I MAKE A CLAIM TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND TO CONTACT CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF THEY WOULD OPEN A CLAIM. I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEIR SERVICE TECH DETERMINED THE ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY WATER DAMAGE AND AFTER ASKING FOR CLARIFICATION I WAS TOLD, "I AM NOT TECHNICALLY TRAINED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION.? I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY, BASED ON THEIR REVIEW/EVIDENCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO SUBSTANTIATE ANY CLAIM OF WATER DAMAGE. I ALSO RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND DETERMINED THAT THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED SEVERAL TIMES. THE REPAIRS WILL COST OVER $1K. THIS SEEMS TO BE EITHER DEFECTIVE OR A FAULTY DESIGN AS THERE ARE NO FACTORY FASTENERS HOLDING THE HEAT SHIELD IN PLACE. *TR
A MONTH AGO STARTED HEARING A HIGH PITCH WHISTLING SOUND. GOT LOUDER AS I ACCELERATED, NOW A CONSTANT SOUND. DRIVING AT 2,000 RPM IT WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR. WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" TOOK TO TRANSMISSION SHOP SAID THAT TORQUE CONVERTER WAS FALLING APART AND DEBRIS GOT INTO THE FLUID AND UP INTO PUMP AND.TRANSMISSION. TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. 7YR OLD VEHICLE NEEDING A TRANSMISSION? HAD CHEVY'S THAT LASTED WELL OVER 210,000 MI. FILLING GAS TANK WAITING FOR AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF. NEVER HAPPENED. GASOLINE SPEWED OUT ONTO GROUND AND ME. THIS IS CONSTANT. TRIED A DIFFERENT PUMP AND STATION, STILL GAS NOT SHUTTING OFF. I NO LONGER FILL UP THE GAS TANK. HAVING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT SIZE TANK AND HOW MUCH GAS IS LEFT IN TANK BEFORE ADDING MORE GAS. THIS STARTED 2 YRS AGO. CHRYSLER STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SUBSTANDARD PARTS THAT ARE USED TO BUILD THESE VEHICLES THAT THE PUBLIC PUT TRUST IN!!!!!!! I WILL NO LONGER BUY A DODGE / CHRYSLER PRODUCT. *TR
MY NITRO WAS BROKE INTO AND THE ALARM DID NOT ALERT ME. NOW THE ALARM GOES OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND THE DOORS LOCKS AND UNLOCKS AND HORN CHIRPS AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND STATED THAT I HAD AN AFTER MARKET SUNROOF AND THAT WAS CAUSING THE ISSUE. BUT READING EVERYONE'S POST. THAT IS NOT TRUE! *TR
WHEN I FILLED UP MY TANK & PULLED THE NOZZLE OUT GAS OVERFLOWED OUT OF THE TANK. THIS HAPPENED TWICE AT TWO DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS IN TWO DIFFERENT STATES. *TR
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS EVERYTIME I ALLOW THE PUMP NOZZLE AUTO STOP. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS WITH DIFFERENT PUMPS TO SEE IF IT MADE A DIFFERENCE. MADE NO DIFFERENCE, IT OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME. THE PUMP DOES KICK OFF AND STOP, BUT THE GAS COMES POURING OUT ABOUT A SECOND LATER. NOT ONLY IS THIS A PERSONAL HAZARD AS GAS IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE, IT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD WHEN THE GAS POURS ON THE GROUND. *TR
ONCE FUEL TANK REACHES IT'S CAPACITY, GAS SPITS BACK OUT OVERFLOWING THE TANK. ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AWHILE.
EVERYTIME I FILL UP MY 07 DODGE NITRO THE GAS OVER FLOWS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND EVERY ONE I GO TO THIS STILL HAPPENS. I EVEN TRIED FILLING SLOWER AND IT STILL OCCURRED. THIS IS GETTING VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I USUALLY END UP FULL OF GASOLINE WHEN IT COMES OUT. IT ALSO COULD BE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD IT THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES OCCUR. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE TANK ON THE VEHICLE THE NOZZLE FAILED TO SHUT OFF IN TIME TO PREVENT GAS FROM OVERFLOWING. FILLED UP AGAIN 2 DAYS LATER AT A DIFFERENT PUMP AND SET THE NOZZLE FOR LOW SPEED AND STILL OVERFLOWED OUT OF THE GAS TANK. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEMS WITH 2007 DODGE NITROS AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. HOWEVER, THE JEEP LIBERTY WHICH IS THE SIBLING VEHICLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY ROLLOVER VALVE AND REQUIRES THE FUEL TANK TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL ONCE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

DRIVING NORTH ON INTERSTATE I-75 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC DUE TO AN ACCIDENT, MY HORN STARTED SOUNDING, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED AND WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID STARTED FLOODING THE WINDSHIELD. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE NORMALLY. APPROXIMATELY, TWO MONTHS LATER, I ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK MY CAR REMOTELY USING MY KEY AND THE HORN STARTED BLARING, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED AND THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID SPRAYED CONTINUOUSLY. I CALLED DODGE CHRYSLER CORPORATION TO SEE IF THEY COULD OFFER ASSISTANCE. THEY TOLD ME WHICH FUSES TO PULL. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO STOP THE HORN, THEN PULLED THE FUSES AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY. I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE FUSES AND DRIVE HOME. DODGE CHRYSLER TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY DEALER IF IT DID IT AGAIN. ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2013. I ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK MY CAR USING MY REMOTE KEY AND EVERYTHING HAPPENED AGAIN. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND PULLED THE FUSES BUT AFTER RECONNECTING THE BATTERY AND REINSTALLING THE FUSES, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I CONTACTED DODGE CHRYSLER AND THEY TRANSFERRED ME TO MY LOCAL DEALER. I TOOK THE CAR IN FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NO CODES WERE STORED. I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE THAT EVENING AND WITHIN 3 MILES OF THE DEALERSHIP, MY NITRO HORN, WIPERS AND WASHER FLUID ALL ACTIVATED. I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND LEFT MY CAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT DODGE CHRYSLER WOULD OFFER NO COST ASSISTANCE TO REPLACE A FAULTY TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE $750 REPAIR MYSELF. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS AND OTHER INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE TIPM FOR NOT ONLY DODGE BUT CHRYSLER AND JEEP PRODUCTS. THIS NOW OCCURS EACH AND EVERY TIME I FILL THE FUEL TANK. SOMEONE IS BOUND TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED OVER THIS SITUATION, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE.
WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, AFTER PUMP AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF, APPROXIMATELY 1/2 GALLON OF GAS OVERFLOWS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. THE LAST TIME, GAS WAS PROPELLED INTO MY FACE AND ALL OVER MY CLOTHES. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE VALVE THAT PREVENTS GAS LEAKAGE DURING/AFTER A ROLLOVER CRASH. THIS IS WORRISOME IN AND OF ITSELF, BUT ESPECIALLY WHEN COMBINED WITH THE OTHER 2 PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, I WAS GOING TO EXIT THE DRIVER'S SEAT WHEN THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY HAND. THE MASTER SWITCH FOR THE POWER WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF THAT. I AM WORRIED THAT I CAN BE IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE CAR CATCHES FIRE DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE VALVE, AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT MY CAR IF THE DOOR HANDLE BREAKS OFF AGAIN AND THE WINDOWS WON'T ROLL DOWN. THIS IS ONE DODGE DEALER IN THE UNITED STATES. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT WHEN PARKING ON ANY TYPE OF GRADE TI TRANSMISSION COULD SLIP AND ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL OUT OF CONTROL. ROOF RACK HAS STARTED TO COME OFF IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER NEAR PASSENGER SIDE. THIS WAS A VERY LOUD THUMP WHEN I TURNED THE KEY. I AM SO THANKFUL I WAS NOT CHECKING MY POWER STEERING FLUID OR SOMETHING LIKE REQUIRING THE ENGINE TO BE STARTED, I COULD POSSIBLY BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I CALL THE DODGE COMPLIANT LINE AND MADE A COMPLAINT. THIS WAS A DODGE FACTORY INSTALLED BATTERY. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE BATTERY. I RUINED A GOOD SHIRT AND PAIR OF JEANS GETTING THE BATTERY OUT. I REPLACED THE BATTERY AND SO FAR THE NITRO IS DOING FINE. I WOULD LIKE SOME FORM OF COMPENSATION FROM DODGE FOR CLOTHES THAT GOT RUINED AND FOR REPLACING THE BATTERY. I BOUGHT MY 2007 NITRO IN OCTOBER WITH ABOUT 68,000 MILES. EVER SINCE THE FIRST TIME I FILLED UP MY TANK GAS SPITS BACK UP OUT THE FUEL HOSE WHEN THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. AFTER RESEARCHING QUITE A BIT I DISCOVERED THIS ISN'T A NEW PROBLEM, CHRYSLER KNOWS ALL ABOUT IT AND EVEN HAD AN INVESTIGATION INTO IT. THE INLET VALVE IS FAULTY AND DOESN'T CLOSE CORRECTLY, LEADING TO GAS SPILLS AT THE PUMP AND GAS SPILLS IF THE VEHICLE ROLLS OVER, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO IGNITE. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER THE PAST WEEK OR SO AND THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY REFUSING TO HELP REPAIR THEIR OWN MANUFACTURES DEFECT. THEY WON'T GIVE ME AN EXPLANATION NO MATTER HOW MUCH I ASK AND I AM GETTING VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THEM. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING CARE OF IT.
