2008 FORD EDGE ON OCCASION WILL JERK WHEN TAKING OFF
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND APPLY BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE BRAKES PEDAL BECAME LOCK AND THE VEHICLE SPEED UP AND I HIT THE CURB AND BOUNCE TO OTHER SIDE AND HIT CURB AGAIN THEN THE VEHICLE STOP. THANK GOD NOBODY WAS COMING AND I WAS NOT INJURE. *TR
BRAKES SUDDENLY FAILED REQUIRING EXCESSIVE FORCE TO BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP. THIS WAS VERY, VERY, SCARY AND I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE WE HAD PURCHASED THE CAR. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER COSTING ALMOST $700 TO REPLACE. APPARENTLY THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL. THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE PART REPLACED AS THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR
ON DEC 6, 2013,WHEN STARTING THE CAR AFTER SITTING FOR<3 HOURS THEN SHIFTING THE CAR INTO GEAR THE CAR ACTS LIKE IT IS NOT IN GEAR, RACES THE ENGINE AND THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWS A SPEED UNRELATED TO ACTUAL MOVEMENT. THERE IS SLOW MOVEMENT BUT NO ACTUAL GEAR ENGAGEMENT. CAR WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO SPENT SEVERAL DAYS TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION. ONE APRIL 20 THE SAME EPISODE OCCURRED BUT THIS TIME I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED. *TR
ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH. BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 5PM AND 7PM, WHILE DRIVING, WE WERE HEARD A "POPPING" NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. WE ALSO NOTICED THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING AND THOUGHT THE NOISE WAS FROM THE WINDOW CRACKING. WHEN WE ARRIVED HOME, THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE SITTING AND WE HEARD THE CAR "POP" AGAIN. THE SAME THING HAPPENED SUNDAY WHILE GOING TO CHURCH AND HOME. MONDAY MORNING ON THE 19TH, MY WIFE PARKED IN THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT TO ATTEND A SCHOOL MEETING AND WHEN SHE CAME OUT, THE HOOD WAS UP AND THE FRONT WAS POPPED UP. WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE STRUT TOWER FAILED. THE MECHANIC INDICATED I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY RISK. THEY WERE SURPRISED THAT MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AND GLAD THAT IT DID NOT TOTALLY FAIL. IT WAS INDICATED THAT THE METAL ON THE FRAME OF THE STRUT TOWER FATIGUED AND IT CAUSED THE STRUT TOWER TO POP UP. I HAVE PICTURES IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE IT. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT IS AN ESTIMATE. IT MAY BE A LITTLE LESS. *TR
THE CAR SEEMS TO RUN FINE IN TOWN. IF IT IS DRIVEN ABOUT 20 MILES OR SO ON THE HIGHWAY, IT DEVELOPS THE FOLLOWING DRIVE TRAIN PROBLEM. WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWS OR COMES TO A STOP AND THE DRIVER THEN ACCELERATES, SUCH AS WHEN DRIVING IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY OR LEAVING A STOP LIGHT, IT SEEMS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE QUIT TALKING TO EACH OTHER AND THEY COME UNCOUPLED DURING SHIFTING. SINCE THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED FOR ACCELERATING, DURING THE SHIFT, THE ENGINE RPM REVS UP TO PERHAPS 3000 AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY SHIFTS RESULTING IN A HEAVY SHOCK TO THE DRIVE LINE. IT DOES THIS BETWEEN EACH GEAR DURING ACCELERATION UPSHIFTING. IF THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THERE IS A DELAY AND THEN IT SHIFTS INTO REVERSE RESULTING IN A SIMILAR HEAVY SHOCK. I HAD SEVERAL OCCURRENCES WHERE I CAME OFF THE FREEWAY AND STOPPED AT THE LIGHT AND UPON ATTEMPTING TO GET GOING AGAIN, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND WOULD REV UP BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT ENGAGED. I SHIFTED INTO PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY GOT GOING AGAIN WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS NOTED ABOVE. IT SEEMS TO REACT THE SAME REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE OD IS ENGAGED OR DISENGAGED. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ONE OF THE LOCAL FORD STORES SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE SYMPTOMS. I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERHAPS A MONTH LATER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A REAL PROBLEM BUT SAID ALL THE CODES WERE FINE. THEY DELETED THE ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION FILES AND UPLOADED NEW FILES AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT THEY DID TO FIX IT. A LENGTHY DRIVE A DAY LATER WENT WELL, NO PROBLEMS. BUT ON THE WAY INTO WORK IN ON APRIL 3RD THE SAME PROBLEMS ARE BACK. IT'S BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN APRIL 7TH. NOT SURE WHAT'S NEXT. MAYBE THE FACTORY CAN OFFER ADVICE? THANKS *TR
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED OUR FORD EDGE USED FROM A DEALER, IT IS THE LIMITED MODEL. DROVE THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER OUR PURCHASE AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. ON THE THIRD DAY I NOTICED MY DRIVERS SIDE REAR INDICATOR LAMP WASN'T WORKING. ON INSPECTION THE BULB AND SOCKET WERE MELTED TOGETHER AND I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE BULB. BOTH FILAMENTS IN THE BULB WERE IN-TACT. THE FAILURE APPEARED TO BE RELATED TO THE SOCKET GETTING SO HOT THAT IT ACTUALLY MELTED AND FAILED. I HAVE NOT CHECKED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BUT I'M ASSUMING I WILL FIND A BURNED SOCKET. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR THERE IS A VERY HARD JERK WHEN THE SHIFT IS MADE. ALSO HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION GOING INTO A FAIL SAFE MODE WHICH PUTS IT INTO 5TH GEAR WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO TAKE OFF AND THE ACCELERATION IS VERY SLOW. COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT WHILE TRYING TO CROSS TRAFFIC AND YOU EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO TAKE OFF IN FIRST GEAR AND HAVE PROPER ACCELERATION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY RESIDENTIAL STREET MY VEHICLE ACTED LIKE IT WAS SHIFTING GEARS WITH A JERK AND LOUD CLUNK. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST AS WELL. TURNED OD OFF AND IT DID NOT DO IT AGAIN UNTIL OD WAS BACK ON AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WATER PUMP MALFUNCTIONED AND LEAKED INTO THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE AFTER THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,300.
I DISCOVERED BOTH OF MY REAR BRAKE LIGHT BULBS MELTED IN THEIR SOCKETS. THE SOCKETS THEMSELVES ARE BURNT BLACK AND THE DRIVERS SIDE TAIL LIGHT CASE HAS BEEN HOT ENOUGH TO MELT. BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP MELTING AND GOING OUT WITH NO KNOWN REASON PRESENTED BY FORD. *TR
THE CAR IS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AT THE PTU SEAL. *TR
DRIVERS REAR TURN SIGNAL MELTED . BULB BURNT. *TR
ON THE FREEWAY IT FELT LIKE THE CAR HIT A HARD BUMP EXITING THE FREEWAY THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE WOULD REV WAY UP BUT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE FORWARD MOVEMENT. IT SEEMED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING INTO THE LOWER GEARS. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO GET THROUGH THE QUICKLY APPROACHING TRAFFIC, WITHOUT GETTING HIT OR SOMEONE ELSE GETTING HIT AS THE CARS WEAVED AROUND ME. AT A STOP, I SHIFTED INTO LOW WITH NO CHANGE. I TURNED THE OVER DRIVE ON AND OFF WITH NO CHANGE. I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THERE WAS QUITE A BIG BANG AND THE WHOLE CAR SHOOK (THIS WAS SIMILAR TO WHAT I FELT ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I THOUGHT I HIT A BUMP). SHIFTING BACK INTO DRIVE, IT WAS THE SAME, LOTS OF RPM AND VERY LITTLE MOVEMENT FORWARD, AS IF I WAS STARTING IN FOURTH GEAR. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE I LOOKED FOR ANY SIGNS OF FLUID LEAKING OR OTHER INDICATIONS OF DAMAGE. NOTHING WAS EVIDENT. AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND SHIFTING IT INTO DRIVE, IT WORKED JUST FINE. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AS THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTINGS AND EVEN A FEW YOU-TUBE VIDEOS OF THE ACTUAL PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED. FORD EVEN HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN 103100 DATED 4/24/13. POSTINGS REPORT TRANSMISSION REBUILDS (AT OVER $4,000.00) AND THE PROBLEM STILL RECURRED. SUCCESSFUL REPAIRS SEEM TO CENTER AROUND A FIRMWARE, COMPUTER UPGRADE AND REPLACEMENT OF TURBINE SENSORS AND SOLENOIDS. WITH ONLY 70,000 MILES ON THIS CAR I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP KNEW ALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND SAID IT WOULD TAKE THREE DAYS TO REPAIR AT JUST UNDER $1,000.00. HE ALSO SAID THAT THEY STOCK THE PARTS FOR THIS REPAIR (A STRANGE COMMENT). ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT MOST REPAIRS TOOK WEEKS BECAUSE NONE OF THE DEALERS STOCKED THE PARTS. NOW IT SEEMS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT THAT MANY IF NOT ALL THE DEALERS ARE NOW STOCKING THESE PARTS. *TR
RIGHT TAIL LIGHT WENT OUT. UPON ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE, FOUND BASE OF BULB MELTED BADLY. SOCKET WAS NOT MELTED BUT WAS DISCOLORED (BLACKENED). CHECKED LEFT SIDE, SAME ISSUES. THESE ARE THE BULBS THAT WERE IN THE VEHICLE WHEN WE PURCHASED IT IN 2009 (ASSUMING THEY ARE FROM THE FACTORY). UPON SEARCHING VARIOUS FORUMS, FOUND THIS TO BE A NATIONWIDE PROBLEM. MAJOR CONCERN FOR FIRE. *TR
GAS TANK LEAK ON THE SEAM BETWEEN THE TOP HALF AND BOTTOM HALF OF THE TANK. NOTICED A GAS SMELL AND SMALL LEAK NEAR THE BACK REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. CANNOT FILL THE TANK OVER HALFWAY. *TR
THE CAR WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR WHEN YOU TRIED TO GO FROM A STOP. YOU WOULD HAVE TO GIVE IT A LOT OF GAS TO MOVE AND THERE WERE ALSO TIMES IN THE PAST WHERE IT WOULD GO BUT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR FOR A LONGER THAN NORMAL TIME. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN IT STARTED WORKING. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON UNTIL ON OCT 25TH WHEN I WAS TRYING TO GO FROM A STOP AND THE CAR WAS HARDLY MOVING. WARNING LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON SO I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND KEPT IT RUNNING SO IT WOULD NOT CLEAR ANY CODES. THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE OSS AND TSS SENSORS IN THE TRANSMISSION. *JS
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A FUNNY NOISE. AFTER THE NOISE STARTED THE WRENCH (WARNING) LIGHT CAME ON, AND THEN THE CARE BEGIN TO DECELERATE AND I WAS STILL PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE EXPRESSWAY. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS NORMAL, AND MADE REVVING NOISES WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED, BUT WOULD NOT MOVE INITIALLY. *JB
THIS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH MY FORD EDGE. I WILL BE DRIVING A HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND ON THE DASHBOARD: 1. THE ODOMETER TURNS FROM NUMBERS TO DASHES 2. THE SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING 3. VARIOUS SERVICES LIGHTS WILL TURN ON (EACH TIME IT HAPPENED, DIFFERENT LIGHTS CAME ON) THEN,I BRAKE TO A FULL STOP, THE CAR LOSES ALL THROTTLE, AND I'M BARELY ABLE TO ACCELERATE. WHEN I GO TO SHIFT GEARS, THERE IS A HARSH, CLUNKING NOISE IN THE TRANSMISSION AS I'M SHIFTING. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A DEFECT IN THE SPEED SENSORS BUT IT OCCURRED A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES IN ABOUT 8 MONTHS. I HAD TO TRADE THE CAR IN BECAUSE IT WAS BECOMING TOO UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON LAKE SHORE DRIVE IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS WAS ACCELERATING ON AN INCLINE AND ENGINE WAS RACING BUT VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER, MADE A POPPING NOISE, WHITE SMOKE BEGAN BILLOWING OUT OF HOOD, LOST ALL POWER WAS ROLLING TO THE NEAREST SAFETY LANE WHICH WAS A TURNING LANE JUST BEING OPENED BY CITY WORKERS WHEN THEY SAID FOR ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR THEY SAW FLAMES COMING OUT OF THE LOWER PART OF THE ENGINE. HAD IT TOWED TO FORD DEALER WHERE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A BLOWN ROD THROUGH THE OIL PAN. THE LAST OIL CHANGE I HAD WAS 2/19/13 AT 58,840 MILES IN CAR. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT QUIT. THE SOCKET WAS BURNED. REPLACED IT. SAME PROBLEM SEVERAL MONTHS LATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. REAR TURN SIGNAL, SOCKET WAS BURNED. NOW (APRIL 13, 2014) THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TURN SIGNAL HAS BURNED UP AGAIN. THE SOCKET IS BLACK, LAMP IS EXTREMELY OVERHEATED AND DESTROYED. *JS
MY 2008 FORD EDGE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HEARING A "CLUNKING" NOISE AND SMELLING EXHAUST COMING FROM THE UNDER CARRIAGE. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED "...REPLACE PTU ASSY FLUID, HAD BLOWN OUT VENT...". THE ENTIRE POWERTRAIN (583984) WAS REPLACED. THIS WAS THE 2ND INCIDENT IN 2 MONTHS. PRIOR TO THIS EVENT I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER EXPERIENCING "SLIPPING" TRANSMISSION. WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I LEFT THE CAR FOR SEVERAL HOURS, THEN RE-STARTED AND IT RAN FINE. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT VERIFY ANY PROBLEMS. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND CAME TO A STOP SIGN. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, WHEN WE HIT THE GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE BARELY MOVED AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL WE FOUND A PLACE TO PULL OVER. WE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND IT SHIFTED REALLY HARD. IT FELT LIKE SOMEBODY HIT US FROM BEHIND. IT ALSO SHIFTED OUT OF PARK VERY HARD. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE. WE STARTED THE CAR AND IT WORKED NORMAL AND WE DROVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. OUR CONCERN IS THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT CAN STOP ACCELERATING AT ANY POINT. THE FORD TECHNICIAN COULD NOT ASSURE US THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY PASSED THE BUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT DO ANYTHING, BUT AFTER READING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME EXACT ISSUE ON FORUMS AND THE NHTSA SITE, I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD OFFER SOME DIRECTION ON HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2008 FORD EDGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DOORS UNLOCKED UNEXPECTEDLY AND THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THE DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,400. UPDATED 12/23/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DOORS WOULD NOT STAY LOCKED. HE WOULD LOCK THEM, AND THEY WOULD UNLOCK AGAIN. ALSO, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON. THE CONSUMER HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. UPDATED 12/24/13
REAR DRIVERS SIDE TURN SIGNAL LAMP WENT OUT, WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE BULB I NOTICED REAR TAIL LAMP TURN SIGNAL-PARKING LAMP SOCKETS ARE BURNT AND WOULD SEEM TO BE A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD, OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT OTHER FORD VEHICLES WITH THE SAME CONDITION. BUT FORD DOESN'T SEEM TO THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM. *TR
DURING THE MONTH OF JULY 2013, OUR 2008 FORD EDGE WOULD MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AT ABOUT 40 MPH. THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP IN JUNE 2013. PRIOR TO THE SERVICE, MY WIFE HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NOISE SO I DECIDED TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES PADS. THE BRAKE PADS WERE ONLY MAYBE 20 % WORN BUT I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED THEM ANYWAY. MY WIFE HAD MADE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN THE PAST WHICH PROMPTED ME TO CHECK AND REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES A FEW YEARS AGO. IN JULY 2013 THE NOISE PERSISTED SO WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO CHECK THE PROBLEM. THE FORD MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE FAILING. APPARENTLY, THERE IS A FLAW IN DESIGN OR WORKMANSHIP THAT IS ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE BEARING HOUSING AND TO CORRODE THE BEARING INNER AND OUTER RACE. SO, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE POTENTIAL FOR THE BEARINGS TO OVER HEAT AND LOCKUP THE WHEELS. THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY GIVEN THE TIME REQUIRED FOR THE BEARINGS TO CORRODE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. I REQUESTED THE OLD PARTS AFTER THE REPAIR AND THERE IS OBVIOUS CORROSION ON THE BALL BEARINGS, THE BEARING RACE, AND IN THE GREASE. THERE ARE OTHER FORD CUSTOMERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE NOISE GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME THAT EVENTUALLY YOU CAN HEAR IT OVER THE RADIO AND CONVERSATIONS IN THE CAR. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK TOP AND VALVES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
WHILE TRYING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 40 TO 50 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND STARTED TO HESITATE. THE RPMS WENT UP BUT THE SHIFT DID NOT HAPPEN FOR MANY SECONDS LATER AND WITH A LOUD CLUNK WHEN IT DID SHIFT AND THEN WE WOULD ACCELERATE AND IT WOULD MAKE A SOUND AGAIN AND DOWN SHIFT. WHEN REPLACING MY LEFT REAR SIGNAL LIGHT I NOTICED THAT THE BASE OF THE TURN SIGNAL BULB WAS MELTED. I REMOVED THE BULB AND REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE AND THE TURN SIGNAL WORKED FINE. EVEN THOUGH THE RIGHT REAR SIGNAL LIGHT WAS WORKING, I WENT TO REPLACE IT AS WELL AND NOTICED THAT IT TOO HAD A MELTED BULB BASE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY WITH CHILDREN IN CAR ON FREEWAY, CAR SUDDENLY MADE A HARD SOUND, SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO 0 INSTANTLY, ALL DASH BOARD LIGHTS CAME ON, RPM STAYED BETWEEN 2 AND 3, ONCE TRAFFIC SLOWED AND ACCELERATOR WAS EASED OFF OF CAR BEGAN TO SLOW AND WOULD NOT PICK BACK UP SPEED WHEN PRESSED AGAIN- EVEN WHEN PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. THEN I TRIED TO PUT IT INTO GEAR. THE ENGINE SOUND AS IF GAS WAS BEING GIVEN TO ENGINE FROM ACCELERATOR AND RPM WAS STUCK AT 2-3, WHEN PUT INTO GEAR, CAR JOLTED REALLY HARD AND MOVED EVER SO SLOWELY WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE IT BACK INTO TRAFFIC TO GET MY FAMILY OFF FREEWAY, EVEN WHEN I PRESSED PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, CAR BARELY MOVED. I HAD TO KEEP TRYING MULTIPLE TIMES TO TURN ENGINE OFF, TRY TO PUT IT IN GEAR, AND GET CAR GOING JUST TO GET IT OFF FREEWAY TO SAFETY. CAR EVENTUALLY PULLED INTO GEAR AND DROVE NORMALLY AFTER SEVERAL TRIES. A SINGLE MOTHER, WITH INFANT AND OLDER CHILD ON BOARD, ON A VERY BUSY FREEWAY IS VERY, SCARY SCARY SCARY. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN ON EITHER THE FREEWAY (DRIVING FAST) OR DRIVING OUT OF THE PARK'S PARKING LOT AT SLOW PACE. CAR SLIPS OUT OF GEAR OR SOMETHING AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I GIVE IT GAS.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR, ALL OF SUDDEN THE CAR JUST STOPS WITH THE DASH BOARD DISPLAYING EVERYTHING. WHEN TRY TO RESTART THE CAR, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR IS TRYING TO START EVEN AFTER RELEASING THE KEY BUT IT DOESN'T START. ALL POWER IS LOST EXCEPT FOR THE LIGHTS AND RADIO. THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY START AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND YOU START DRIVING AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. HAD CAR TOWED TO AUTO REPAIR PLACE WHERE DIAGNOSTICS DIDN'T SHOW ANYTHING. THE MECHANIC DID DRIVE THE CAR AND IT STALLED ON HIM. HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE "FUEL KILL SWITCH" BECAUSE IT RESET IT AND THE CAR STARTED. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR RAN FINE FOR 2 DAYS THEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY STARTED LOOSING SPEED AND WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE RPM'S DECREASED THEN JUMPED UP LIKE THE CAR HAD RESTARTED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE THEN I LOST ALL POWER AND HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER. *TR
THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. AFTER SHOPPING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I START MY CAR AND IT IMMEDIATELY MAKE A HARSH CLUNKING SOUND WHEN MOVING INTO DRIVE GEAR. THEN I HAVE LITTLE TO NO ACCELERATION AND MY SPEEDOMETER, ETC DOES NOT WORK. THE WRENCH SYMBOL COMES ON. WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK, IT MAKES A VIOLENT, HARSH SOUND. THE FIRST 2 INCIDENTS, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR OVER 24 HOURS. WHEN I START AFTER 24 HOURS THE CAR WORKS COMPLETELY FINE AND ALL THE SYMPTOMS GO AWAY. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WITHIN 8 HOURS OF INCIDENT. THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE IT WAS THE TURBINE AND SPEED SENSORS, WHICH I HAD REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. *TR

BRAKES STARTED TO MAKE A SCRAPING SOUND. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP WITHOUT SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES THROWING PASSENGERS FORWARD. IT APPEARED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT DEPRESSING PROPERLY AND WERE PUMPED UP. WE HAPPENED TO HAVE A SCHEDULE ANNUAL INSPECTION WITH OUR MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED US THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER APPEARED TO BE THE ISSUE. WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, I NOTICED THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE 2007 FORD EDGE. SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL? I HAVE OWNED FORD VEHICLES FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF A BRAKE BOOSTER ISSUE UNTIL NOW. UPON DRIVING HOME NOTED MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS BLINKING QUICKLY - WHICH I ASSUMED (AND FOUND TO BE CORRECT THAT THE BULB WAS OUT. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I CHECK THE LIGHTS. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE, HOWEVER, I FOUND THE LIGHT BULB FOR REAR/BACKUP, AND TURN SIGNAL WAS OUT, AND THEN NOTED THAT MY LEFT READ LAMP/BULB (LARGER) BULB WAS BLACK, MELTED, AND REQUIRED PLYERS TO REMOVE FROM SOCKET. IT APPEARED TO OVERHEAD/MELT. REPLACEMENT BULB DID WORK, BUT UNCERTAIN AS TO THE USE OF THE BLACKENED SOCKET. REAR BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT SOCKET ON THE LEFT REAR OF VEHICLE HAS OVERHEATED AND MELTED THE PLASTIC AROUND LAMP. LAMP WAS BURNT OUT. NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE HIGH HEAT PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD EDGE, A ROARING TYPE NOISE COMES FROM THE REAR OF THE UNIT. AS YOU ACCELERATE TO NOISE GROWS IN VOLUME. AT FIRST IT APPEARED TO ME AS "ROAD NOISE" I CHANGED PRESSURES IN THE TIRES AND ROTATED THE FRONT TO THE REAR. NOTHING CHANGES. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, IT APPEARS THAT IT IS THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. ACCORDING TO FORD THE BEARING HUB AND THE REAR SUSPENSION TRAILING ARM/KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY MUST ALSO BE CHANGED ON THE AFFECTED SIDE. THE TRAILING ARM CAUSES TO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE BEARINGS AND WIPES THEM OUT. ALSO THE WHEELS HAVE TO BE RE-ALIGNED DUE TO THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW TRAILING ARM. FORD STATES THAT JUST CHANGING ONLY THE BEARING HUB WILL CAUSE THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN AGAIN. IF THE BEARING FAILS THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH THE POTENTIAL OF SERIOUS INJURY OR WORSE TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THIS VEHICLE AND ANYONE ELSE AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE.THIS APPEARS TO BE A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. ONE WEEK LATER I AM DRIVING WHEN SUDDENLY SPEEDOMETER STOPS AND MILEAGE IS READING --- GRINDING NOISE THEN A WRENCH ICON APPEARS WHICH MEANS THE POWERTRAIN IS MALFUNCTIONING, THEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON AND THEN AN ! ICON WHICH MEANS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH TIRES. TERRIFIED, I CALLED POWER FORD AND TOLD TO BRING IT IN... I WAS LESS THAN A HALF A MILE AWAY, AND PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND BARELY MADE IT THE FEW CLOCKS TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A HAUNTING PROBLEM THAT I HAVE READ AT LEAST A DOZEN COMMENTS ABOUT THE POWER TRAIN. HAD I BEEN ION THE FREEWAY I DON'T THINK I WOULD BE ALIVE.
