NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2013 Ford Edge. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
P245/60R18 UNKNOWN I was driving through residential parking lot and my tire begin to go flat. Before I could even pull over and park, I had to swerve to keep from hitting other vehicles in the lot. Not sure why the tire went flat, but this incident was scary.
The ABS Hydraulic Control Unit went bad in my car. i made an appointment with ford thinking that it was the brake booster because it’s listed as a problem with those cars but it ended up not being that. i was driving and was cut off and brake checked and when i went to slam on my brakes they went straight to the floor and luckily i was able to swearve and miss intime. ford told me what the problem was and they will be fixing it for over $1200. i read multiple entries of people with the same car having this problem and even with serious injuries as well and this is a very dangerous saftey issue. i checked all my system lights and the section for the brakes still said OK just like all the other categories. the fact that the car can’t even recognize the problem makes it so 100x worse. this was the scariest experience i’ve ever had and was able to come to a stop off an exit with my e-brake. this needs to be addressed, how many more people need to wreak and get hurt before it gets taken seriously. this needs to be recalled.
2013 FORD EDGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A DEFECTIVE DOOR SWITCH ON VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY BLINKS. THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS 8 YEARS OLD AND COULD NOT BE COVERED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PAST RECALL SHOULD BE HONORED.
My shifter cable degraded and I had to have it towed to Keith's Automotive Center in Torrance, CA. They supposedly fixed it but it is not working again. I saw that Ford recalled 2015-2018 Edge's (Campaign 22V413000) but I feel my year could possible be a problem as well. I have since taken it back to Keith's but they refused to look at it again even though it was under their warranty.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal extended to the floor causing the stopping distance to be extended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the brake pads and brake rotors and bled the brake lines; however, the failure persisted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the fuel was coming back out from the fuel filler neck. The dealer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
While driving the car randomly shuts off when it wants to. Does it approximately every half hour to 1 hour of drive time. When it shuts off the dash board goes dark, and the engine shuts off. The car needs to be coasted to the side of the road with no power brakes, or power steering, and put in park. As soon as the car is stopped and parked it can be started back up again. Multiple times it has shut off in heavy traffic and almost caused an accident, 1 time was in a construction zone on the highway where there was no place to pull off so I had to come to a complete stop in the middle of the highway and restart the car. The car was taken to the Ford dealership and they inspected it for 1 full week and they said they could not verify what is causing the issue and told me to continue driving vehicle and when problem starts happening more often to bring it back in. There are no warning lights that come on, and there are no symptoms that are associated with the problem. The car first started doing it approximately 1 month ago, at about 75,000 miles. Car currently has 76,561
I was driving home from work on a flat road no bumps or anything and my car was shaking like it was going over a speed bump and this loud sound happened like something fell off the car, and then immediately after that my brakes werent working anymore, we took it to a mechanic and they said its the brake booster and that my car is known to have this recall but that Ford doesnt have it announced as a recall and I would like to take it to Ford to fix it since its a known issue
My 2013 Ford Edge had 44,882 miles on it. With no warning or lights, car was difficult to stop. Hissing noise when brakes applied. Very scary! Took it to Ford dealership. They charged me $167 to diagnose the problem as power brake booster, and said it would take 3-4 weeks to get the part. Ford knows there’s a problem (N102) and supposedly it’s covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles, but I was told that mine would NOT be covered. I took it to an independent repaIr shop. They were able to get the part in three days. It cost me $993.28 to have it repaired. VERY DISAPPOINTED with Ford!! This is a SAFETY ISSUE!, Thank God I wasn’t on a highway when it happened! Is Ford waiting until someone gets killed?
VACUMN BOOSTER LEAKING at 82,120 miles
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving, the brake pedal felt spongy when pressed, causing the braking distance to become extended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the brake master cylinder, but the failure continued. The vehicle was then taken to the local dealer who replaced the ABS module, but the failure continued. The brake booster was later replaced, and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle would inadvertently surge forward upon the depression of the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Purchased this vehicle in April 2021. 1st time I was braking to make a right turn onto a side street and I lost all pedal. Waited a few minuets and the pedal came back. 2nd time was in June, braked harder to avoid a car that cut me off and the same thing-pedal went straight to the floor. This time longer to get the pedal back-stopped the car and pumped up the brakes. Took me about 15 min to get any pedal back. 3rd time was just 2 days ago-Started to brake at a red light and no pedal. Pulled off and tried to pump up the brakes again but nothing happened. Waited 30 mins on the side of the road to get my brakes back. Each time my speeds were different-15 mph-60 mph-45 mph. Each time I had my kids in the car and now I don't feel safe driving this car. This is nothing new, there are Forums about this exact thing.
While driving the edge at 35mph when stepping on the brakes the pedal was vary stiff and don't engage, then suddenly the brakes engage and nearly lock up, when nearing a stop sign or light as slowly coming to a stop the brake pedal fades and can be pressed to the floor. There were no warning light or notification of errors. Took to Local Ford dealer and they performed a Brake Booster replacement under extended warranty and the vehicle was given back. The issue was not resolved and taken back to dealer who test drove and agreed it was a safety issue. Dealer says that the replaced Brake Booster was defective and they have ordered another. I expressed my concern that a bad booster would not explain that the pedal would go to the floor. We shall see
Brake booster went bad & the vehicle is not covered by the Ford extended warranty 13N02. Being that the booster is vacuum controlled the engine will occasionally die while in traffic.
This is a known issue for the Ford Edge. The Voltage Regulator on the Alternator goes out prematurely. The SYNC system will shut down while driving and also disable many features of the vehicle. Such as the radio turning off, doors not unlocking, shifting disabled, headlights turn on dimly, etc. The battery tests normal and so does the alternator, however the regulator within the alternator will not pass through enough charge to the battery to stay charged. Hence, why most people will change the battery and still have the problem later. I understand as parts age they do fail, however this has been a known issue since early versions of the car and it has yet to be corrected. Many of the complaints on NHTSA are related to this, however some people are not aware due to lack of testing the particular item. They will write complaints about radio shutting off or headlights wont turn on(which is really dangerous as well). It often happens while driving, a warning will show up saying "Sync shutting down.....". Driver's are unaware that they are only driving on the battery power at this point because when they get it checked by a mechanic, both the battery and alternator test as they are supposed too. They alternator is still creating voltage however the regulator, not tested individually, won't allow enough to go through to recharge the battery. The most concerning part is if certain electrical components not deemed necessary by the SYNC system are shut down they could lead to more catastrophic incidents. For example; ABS braking not slowing the vehicle, door wont unlock in emergency situation, etc. I had both battery and alternator checked by a tech from Oreilly's Auto Parts and a mechanic from a local auto shop. I was informed that it must be the battery since the alternator is performing, So the battery was changed Friday 08/13/2021. Vehicle was fine until driving Monday 08/15/2021 and warning showed up again.
I had spongy brakes took to the shop because I was finally losing brake fluid. Shop changed my Brake Master Cylinder. $400 on the way home my car felt like it was dragging. Get home smelled a strange smell. got in it the next morning going to work and it felt like my brakes where being pressed. Almost got to work and my car just stopped finally got it into a parking lot and my brakes locked completely up and my car would not move. Smoke started coming out of my wheel wells. Towed it to the repair shop and was told my ABS Control Module was bad. Part is on back order been waiting for it for the last week. Shop told me my car was not safe to drive.
Wrench light came on and Car immediately completely lost power while driving, no acceleration, had to coast to edge of street and turn car off. Waited a few minutes and restarted without incident. When investigating what this light was and what to do about it I found that this same issue has happened to many many people with a 2013 Edge. Could have been very dangerous had this happened while on the freeway driving at freeway speeds
Engine dies on road when engine has not reached maximum engine operating temperature in most cases. Engine dies-pull over to curb-put in park-engine restarts-operates normally after shut down. Has happened 4 times-could be dangerous- last time died with another vehicle close behind. Possible wreck event could take place under these conditions.
brakes pedal goes slowly to floor some times, cant be properly diagnosed rear brake calipers sticking ,replaced them and pads, pedal still not always good. lots of edge owners have this issue, no help from ford, without replacing entire brake system from begining to end then no guarantee that it wont recur. this system should not be this unreliable.should be a instant recall on these cars.like the ford truck brake recall now
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the contact depressed the brake pedal but was unable to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Brake pedal would go partially down when applied and then stop, allowing vehicle to continue moving, rather than stop.
I heard a hissing and when I applied brakes they were spongy and went all the way to the floor. I had to pump them a lot to come to a stop. Very scary. I was told my vehicle was not included in the service bulletin. There are a lot of Ford Edge owners that have had to replace the brake booster but no reimbursement or help from Ford. They are excluding more vehicles with this problem than including. Brake boosters are not a common thing to go out unless you own a for Edge. This needs to be made a must for Ford to replace these.
On Wednesday July 28, 2021- While driving my vehicle, without any warning lights or any other symptoms I noticed a loss of braking power and the pedal went all the way down to the floor luckily I was on a backroad with no other cars in front or behind me. I immediately pulled to the side of the rode and waited a few minute before proceeding. I was then able to drive to a local repair shop where it was diagnosed that the brake booster had failed. After investigation and seeing that an extended warranty was provided for this part by Ford the repair shop called a Local Ford dealership but was told my car was not part of the warranty. I contacted Ford and was told the although my vehicle was in the build year as the extended warrantied vehicles, my vehicle was built in October, the warranty period covered vehicle built up until March of 2013. I had the brake booster replaced at my own expense.
Brakes failed due the power brake booster, was replace at the shop. The shop that the vehicle was towed to confirmed that the brake booster along with the check valve and line failed and needed to be replaced. There were no warning lamps or messages to indicate failure other than the brake petal feeling soft and a squealing noise.
In my experience, as I was driving the vehicle in July of 2021, I pressed on the brake pedal with my foot and the vehicle did not stop. I rolled directly into an intersection. Thankfully I was not traveling at a high rate of speed and no one was coming in the opposite direction. This could have 100% caused a serious accident. I feel extremely lucky that it did not. I have 2 young children that were in the vehicle. There was absolutely no prior warning that there was any issue with the brakes or anything else for that matter. According to the independent service center that the vehicle was taken to, the problem was confirmed to be a faulty Brake Booster. The Brake Booster was replaced for a total cost of $743.81 including parts and labor which I paid for out of my pocket. I am the second owner of this vehicle which I purchased in earlier in 2021. At the time of the repair I was not aware of the fact that Ford Motor company had issued an extended warranty for the Brake Booster (which has since expired). I only found this out in August 2023 when I brought my vehicle in for inspection. I have tried to contact Ford Motor Co regarding this issue and I have requested a reimbursement for the parts and labor which has been denied (even though the repair was made within the extended warranty period). I am strongly suggesting that this part be RECALLED as it presents a serious life safety concern that Ford Motor Co is obviously aware of.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was engaged the vehicle did not come to a complete stop. The contact stated that the brake had to be engaged with force to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The contact was able to avoid crashing into a vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was notified of a brake booster replacement warranty on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 38,000.
When depressing the brakes, heard a hissing sound and had a spongy break feeling. Could not stop as desired at a low speed and traveled into the busy intersection. Took car to Ford Dealer and they diagnosed it as a Brake Booster Failure. Was notified that Ford was fixing this for some VINs under 150k mileage, which my vehicle is. Was told that this agency was the deciding factor if my VIN was covered under this repair from Ford. Right time, right place, we could have been crushed. The dealership confirmed the issue with the Ford Edge, and the fact that there was a Customer Satisfaction sent to some VIN's for the 2013 Ford Edge. There were no warnings at all of this failure. None. One time was enough to go have it checked out before someone was injured or killed.
My wife an I have 3 kids. An the rear driverside door latch reads 90% of the time that the door is open but it's not. At night we have to open an shut the door atleast 30 times to get the lights to go off in the Ford edge. Recently on a new issue we lost our brakes. Had to pay to replace the brake booster and master cylinder. As the mechanic got it together he went to bleed the brakes an only front driver an rear passenger bleed. The other 2 wouldn't bleed at all. Which made me get a tow truck an had to take it to corwen Ford in Springfield, mo today.
While driving and applying brakes, it began to make a hissing noise then brake pedal began to go hard and vehicle turned off
I only had my vehicle for four month and since I had it the car have not work properly as I'm driving up or down the road the car begin to lose power with a wrench light appears and somtimes the check engine light comes on which happened a dozen of times since I have had the car almost every time, Iam in a very dangerous position to pull over on side of road which almost led to multiple accident with other cars going in the same direction as my car I have reach out the dealership and they can't tell me anything on whats wrong with my vehicle I'm so scare to drive it with my three kids in it with me cause this have happened way too many times already please help so this problem before someone get hurt or its to late..
Brake booster failed a third time. brake went spongy and they sent out a 13n02 for one repair, but only one repair.
The force necessary to depress the brake pedal has increased and at times the car still rolls while the brake pedal is depressed.
It is believed by driver that booster hose has failed. This became apparent when driving through New Orleans on I-10 westbound. When I came off interstate exit to a street near where I was going, I had to almost stand on brake pedal to stop and keep from rearending car in front of me. I checked my brake fluid and it was full with no leaks. There are no leaks on inside under brake pedal. This vehicle is a 2013 Ford Edge SEL AWD assembled ay Oakville, Ontario, Canada. There was no dash lights that came on to indicate that there is a malfunction. My vehicle may also have an electrical light problem to which I am not aware of.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle would not stop. The contact depressed the brake pedal almost to the floor for the vehicle to slow down. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure as a failure with a brake booster and hose that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000
Hissing sound when the brake pedal was depressed and then the stiffness in the pedal itself. There was little to extremely little braking power and was very difficult to slow and stop the vehicle. Took the car to a local repair shop and determined that it was a faulty brake booster. They felt that it should be taken to the dealer, which I did. I did find out that this is a very common problem with the same make and model Fords. A Customer Satisfaction program 13N02 was launched but not for my vin. This is a very dangerous situation feel that more investigation should be done on this particular product.
The door closer says door ajar when it is closed. It is on the front driver's side door. The dome light is constantly on running out the battery and my wife is not able to lock the doors!!! This is a major safety issue!! I found some info online about A LOT of other ford owners having the same issues and ford doesn't think it's a big deal!!?? Is it going to take someone getting seriously injured for this to be resolved? This is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while reversing out of a driveway, the brake pedal was hard to depress. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer or the independent mechanic immediately after the failure. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact researched the failure and found a manufacturer recall for the brake booster for the 2010-2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that her VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer however, no diagnosis due to the COVID pandemic. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure and determined that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Brakes hiss are spongy and then get solid and hard to stop vehicle. Vehicle was made in Oakville plant where 2013 Ford Edge’s have been identified to have known issues with brake booster (Ford program 13N02) although they say my Ford does not qualify even with only 60k miles.
This is not an unknown problem to NHTSA or Ford for covered vehicles. Brake booster failed, causing serious problems with the ability to stop the vehicle. For other 2013 Ford Edge and Mercury MKX vehicles, this repair is covered (NHTSA 10054925), while some of these vehicles are not covered for some reason, including this VIN. The brake booster failure on this vehicle presents no less of a safety issue than that of the covered vehicles, which received a Ford 10 year extended warranty on the brake booster. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms.
The purpose of this letter is to request a recall on 2013 Ford Edge. The customer satisfaction program 13N02 released in January of 2014 identifies that “it is possible for the brake booster on your vehicle to develop a small tear in the diaphragm.” This is what has occurred in my vehicle under 100,000 miles. The recall/program covers vehicles made prior to March 28, 2013 and my vehicle was made in approximately June. As a result my request for relief has to this point been denied. I am very disappointed as it is an identical issue to the recall but because my car is approximately 90 days younger than others identified, I am out $940.30 dollars for the repair. The repair is completed now. The vehicle was not stopping responsively and put myself and others at risk. My auto mechanic confirmed the issue and identified it as the same described in the recall noted above. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms to make us aware of the issue. Ford denies to cover my repair as it is a vehicle made shortly after the bulletin identifies.
This is a vigilant preventative report. There aren't any warning lamps, failures or messages yet and I sure am glad. But the symptoms were noticed on May 21, 2021 after I returned home from getting my emissions done. I noticed both front tires were streaming wet with liquid and at first I thought I had run over something. Then today May 30, I needed to run to the grocery store but before I left I had my son look underneath the hood because I thought maybe a fluid or freon may have caused the scene but soon found out that there is no way for any fluids to penetrate to the tires because there is a solid panel separating the mechanisms underneath the hood from the wheels and tire. That made me take a closer look at the inside of the wheel covers/caps and low and behold you can see because of the dark color of the fluid in the wells of the wheels; brake fluid has been spewing now, both times as far as I can tell. I don't know how long it takes for the fluid reservoir to become empty, but I sure wouldn't want to be driving my vehicle when that happens. So this is in my opinion a "Life or Death" Safety Hazard and would really be appreciative for an immediate response! I need your suggestion as soon as you're able to, what should be my next step. I am a senior citizen and I purchased this 2013 vehicle as my future retirement vehicle in 2014 and retired in 2017. I believed it would be a nice, sturdy well-built and reliable vehicle for years to come. I've owned many a vehicle and have never had any major brake issues during all those years, just regular maintenance on brakes and other expected low maintenance. Never anything of this magnitude to put my life in danger. Wow! An 8 year old vehicle with just under 73,000 miles on the odometer driven less that 50 miles per month, I wouldn't have ever thought this could happen. Hopefully, there is a Safety Recall for this model as well. Still researching....
Backup camera started having issues (screen image upside down, screen flashing) 3 years ago. Dealer stated this is common complaint and since the car was not under warranty the estimated repair could be upwards to $2,000. I asked if the issue was common and pointed out there was a recall on new Ford cars and trucks due to backup camera issues, and why this issue shouldn't be covered as it is has the same problem that the recall on newer vehicle has? There was no response other than asking if I wanted the camera fixed, or not.
• What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The left back door sensor malfunctioned. Yes, it can be inspected once the battery is charged or replaced. • How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It would not automatically lock the doors while driving. The vehicle is used to transport children. It would say the door is open despite it being closed and locked. The alarm would randomly go off with no one around. • Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The sensor malfunctioned so much, my battery is now dead. It has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center. • Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, it has not been inspected by anyone yet. • Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The messaging system would randomly tell me my door was open despite it being closed. It became more and more frequent as time went on. Before my battery died, it was happening 3-4 times a night. The issue first appeared in May or June of 2021
I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE I HAVE EITHER HAD TO 1) PRESS THE BRAKES VERY HARD TO THE FLOOR TO STOP, SOMETIMES STILL ROLLING OR 2) OCCASIONALLY FELT VERY STIFF BRAKES THAT WILL NOT STOP THE CAR WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR WOULD CONTINUE TO ROLL. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE SO I WOULD NOT IMPACT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ON HIGHWAY 23. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A BRAKE BOOSTER ISSUE, BUT FORD CLAIMS MY CAR WAS MADE THE MONTH AFTER THE RECALL ENDED. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS, AND GETTING WORSE RECENTLY. WE HAD TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE BRAKES WERE IN GOOD CONDITION OTHERWISE - NO OTHER ISSUES.
After purchasing my 2013 Ford Edge SEL from a used car dealer, I noticed that the car would brake it self and come to a complete stop at 55 miles an hour. This scared me so I went to the Ford dealer Riser Ford in Hot Springs Arkansas about the problem. The dealer told me that no codes came up for the brake problem and nothing could be done until a code came up. I took the care to my mechanic and he told me that after driving the car himself he checked the temp on all four rotors and the front drivers side rotor was 30 degrees warmer than the rest. So either the sensor or module must be bad. This vehicle is dangerous to drive when your brakes lock up at high speed or at any speed. Ford should be sued for not correcting dangerous equipment.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while having routine maintenance, she was informed there was an abnormal power train noise detected. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds the vehicle was shaking. The check engine warning indicator light illuminated The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed the power transfer unit and the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 94,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that he noticed an oil-burning odor coming from the vehicle. The contact then noticed that the vehicle was leaking oil underneath the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission PTU failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 74,950.
My 2013 Ford Edge SE Brakes failed in April of 2021. I first had brakes checked after failure incident I was out of town in Salina KS. LAGROON AUTO SVC INC said found nothing, repaired wheel bearing LR $448.71. Had another near miss accident in Kansas City, MO a car ran in front of me car brakes failed to stop, I swerved into next lane in front of car in that lane to avoid accident. Called MOBILE AUTOMOBILE MECHANICS OF KANSAS CITY, I was told it was Brake Master Cylinder and would cost $1,100.00. I rejected that cost. I took vehicle to AAMCO AUTO REPAIR. Brake Master Cylinder was replaced for $387.01. Brakes failed again next day had another mishap with braking. Returned vehicle to AAMCO. Diagnostic done. I was told it was the Anti Lock breaks, and I need to take vehicle to dealer. I took vehicle to Dealer THOROUGHBRED FORD. I gave them diagnostics from AAMCO. I was told there was a Brake Booster recall on my car, and looks like that is maybe what the problem is. Make appointment. I brought car in was told further inspection showed it not brake booster, it is HCU HUDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. Make another appointment will cost $1,600.00. I cannot afford that much more money. I went home looked on internet about 2013 Ford Edge HCU, found that failed HCU Is a common problem for this vehicle. I called other brake repair shops to see if could get better price was told due to pandemic parts were backed up and would be several months before could receive part. I was in several near misses of having an accident in an fairly new 8 year old vehicle. There is no recall on HCU when this is a common problem that can potentially cause someone their life, like it almost did me. I had to trade this vehicle to REED GMC BUICK because I needed reliable transportation to travel to help my elderly parents. I will also report to other agencies about this problem.
