IN AUGUST 2019 I SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED LIS OF BRAKE BOOST AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO PUMP UP THE BRAKES AND DROVE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT TO EVALUATE AND REPAIR. DEALERSHIP REPORTED IT WAS NOT A BOOSTER ISSUE, BUT ABS SENSOR NOT COMMUNICATING WITH ECM. DEALERSHIP REPORTED THEY REPROGRAMMED AND WAS WORKING FINE. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. DEALERSHIP CHECKED AND FOUND NO CODES ISSUE AND STARTED THEY BELIEVED IT TO BE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE, BUT THEY WEREN'T SURE. THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING PARTS STEP BY STEP UNTIL THEY FOUND THE FAULTY PART, STARTING WITH MASTER CYLINDER. MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED, SAME ISSUE. ELECTRONIC MODULE TESTED AND FOUND TO BE OKAY. NOW THEY HAVE NO IDEA. FROM READING ONLINE POSTS, IT'S OBVIOUS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL BRAKE SYSTEM. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WON'T ADDRESS ISSUE. LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS JAMES HODGE. HELP!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
MY BACK UP CAMERA SAYS "CAMERA IS UNAVAILABLE. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR DEALERSHIP." WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR TWO DAYS AGO AND IT STARTED DOING THIS, THIS MORNING.
ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE BATH OF 2013 FORD EDGE'S THAT WERE RECALLED FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER GOING OUT, IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE,, BRAKES BECOME SUDDENLY SPONGY AND YOU CAN HEAR AIR LEAKING FROM THEM. TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
MY WIFE'S 2013 FORD EDGE LOOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE ACCELERATOR STOPS WORKING AND THE CAR STOPS FUNCTIONING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. WE HAVE CALLED WHITES FORD IN URBANA OHIO TO CHECK ON RECALL. THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS AND THE VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE EDGE HAS 67K MILES ON IT. HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT. FORD SHOULD ADDRESS THESE ISSUES. WE ONLY DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHEN NECESSARY DUE TO US NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL JUST LOOSE POWER.
BRAKE PEDAL IS SPONGY, TAKES MORE EFFORT TO PUSH TO HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE BRAKES, AND THERE IS A HISSING SOUND. BRAKE BOOSTER IS BAD.
FOR OVER A WEEK, I HAVE HAD ISSUE WITH MY BRAKES BEING VERY DIFFICULT TO PRESS, AND STOP MY CAR. IT IS A 2013 FORD EDGE WITH ABOUT $106,000 MILES ON IT. THIS ISSUE STARTED SUDDENLY, AND ALMOST RESULTED IN A CRASH, AS I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP MY CAR IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, AND BLEW THROUGH A STOP SIGN. I HAVE SINCE DRIVEN IN MANUAL MODE, SO THAT I COULD DOWNSHIFT TO SLOW MY VEHICLE, BUT HAVE TO LEAVE ADEQUATE BRAKING TIME B/W MY VEHICLE AND THE NEXT, AND AM LEAVING EARLY AND LATE FOR WORK TO AVOID ANY TRAFFIC SITUATIONS IN WHICH MY CAR WILL NOT STOP. WE HAVE A 18MTH OLD, SO DRIVING WITH HER IN THE VEHICLE IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN FOR HER SAFETY ALONE. WE CALLED, AND WERE TOLD THIS WAS COVERED AS LONG AS IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER, BUT FROM READING THESE COMPLAINTS IT IS THE EXACT THING I'M HAVING AND I'M NOT SURE HOW IT COULD BE ANYTHING ELSE. THE HISSING IS WHEN I BRAKE, AND THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THERE WAS A VERY LOUD SQUEALING. MY BRAKES ARE "SPONGY" AND I LITERALLY HAVE TO USE BOTH FEET TO STOP MY VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD THIS WAS COVERED AS LONG AS IT IS THE BRAKE BOOSTER, BUT THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH FORD, AND IT SHOULD OBVIOUSLY BE A RECALLED PART. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH MY CAR SINCE 8/19, AND I TOOK MY VEHICLE THIS MORNING TO BE SERVICED, AND HOPEFULLY IT WON'T TAKE LONG.
THERE IS A HISSING SOUND AND IT IS LITERALLY TAKING BOTH FEET FOR ME TO STOP MY VEHICLE, THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE, AND I HAVE LESS THAN 110,000 MILES ON THIS CAR. IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY AND OUT OF THE BLUE. IT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR OVER A WEEK. THIS HAPPENS ANYTIME I'M IN THE CAR AND ITS MOVING. THE HISSING IS NOT AS BAD RIGHT NOW, BUT WHEN IT STARTED, IT WAS NONSTOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SLIGHTLY ENGAGED, THE CONTACT HEARD A CONSTANT ABNORMAL HISSING NOISE. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD, THE NOISE STOPPED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ENGAGED IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GOODYEAR AUTO SERVICE WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO BERGLUND FORD, INC. (834 E MAIN ST, SALEM, VA 24153, (540) 389-7291) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A TEAR IN THE DIAPHRAGM AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS SEVEN MONTHS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY DATES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,500.
MY CAR WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN STOP EXCELS RATING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE RPMS INCREASE AS THE SPEEDS DECREASES. THE FORD DEALERSHIPS CAN NOT FIGURE IT OUT AS IT HAS TO BE DOING IT. IT CAN HAPPEN 30 MINUTES INTO DRIVING AND THEN MAYBE 1.5 HOURS IS, THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY. IT HAS HAPPENS FOR THE PAST YEAR. AND NOW TRACING FOR THE PAST SUMMER IT IS VERY ANXIOUS DRIVING THIS CAR. I AM NOT SURE MY CAR WAS CLEARED REALLY WITH ALL THE RECALLS.
REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH FAULTY AND EXHIBITS ILLUMINATED DOME LIGHTS, DOOR AJAR MESSAGE ALONG WITH NO DOOR LOCKS AND FAULTY ALARM.
CAR TOOK VERY LONG TO STOP. I HAD TO KEEP PUMPING THE BRAKES TO MAKE IT STOP. IF I JUST KEPT THE BRAKES PRESSED DOWN WITHOUT PUMPING THE CAR KEPT ROLLING. THIS HAPPENED WHENEVER I HAD TO STOP AT A LIGHT OR A STOP SIGN. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAD THAT REPLACED AND I STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I WENT ON A WEBSITE AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON FORD EDGES THAT WAS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM AND IT SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY A LEAK IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO FORD AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL SO I HAD TO PAY FOR ALL OF THE COSTS. *BF *TR *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM FAILED TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT HEARD AN AIR LEAK SOUND WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL ALSO FELT HARD AND WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE CONTACT DROVE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED OF AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE CONTACT ALSO DROVE TO FRANK FLETCHER FORD (3015 TURKEY CREEK RD, JOPLIN, MO 64801, 417-429-4495) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE DEALER PROVIDED A COST ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT THEN SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO ALSO STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
DRIVER NOTICED THE BREAKS NEEDING EXTRA PRESSURE TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP, HISSING SOUND WHEN BREAK PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, AT TIMES BREAKS ARE SPONGY, AT TIMES BREAKS NEED EXTRA PRESSURE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND VERY RAPID STOP TAKES PLACE. ALL THIS HAPPENS FROM VARYING SPEEDS WHILE STOPPING.
DOOR AJAR WARNING WON'T GO OFF WHEN CAR IS RUNNING WHICH WILL NOT LOCK DOORS
VEHICLE WAS DRIVING ROUGHLY 60MPH ON A HIGHWAY WHEN DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE FULLY PUSHED INTO THE FLOOR FOR THE CAR TO BEGIN SLOWING DOWN. THE CAR DID EVENTUALLY STOP. THE DRIVER THEN CONTINUED TO DRIVE SLOWLY (5-10MPH) ON BACK ROADS AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE THE BRAKE HARDLY NEEDED TO BE TAPPED AND THE CAR STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. THERE WAS AN AIR DEFLATING NOISE AND SCREECHING NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE. TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE AS A POWER BREAK BOOSTER AND VACUUM HOSE FAILURE. FORD CURRENTLY HAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM (13N02) FOR SELECT 2011-2013 FORD EDGES WITH UNDER 150,000 MILES. MY CAR IS A 2013 EDGE WITH 139,773 MILES. HOWEVER FORD CLAIMS THE VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM.
TRYING TO STOP AT 35-40 MPH AT A RED LIGHT, BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, HAD TO STEP VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. AFTER THAT I FELT A SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL, HISSING SOUND, AND ABNORMAL BRAKING MOVEMENT. DEALERSHIP INITIAL DIAGNOSIS; BRAKE BOOSTER & MASTER CYLINDER, AT A COST OF 1600 COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THEY STILL HAVE A SPONGY PEDAL, NOW ASKING FOR 800 MORE FOR A ABS MODULE. COMPLETE DEFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEM FROM FORD! 2013 FORD EDGE 125,000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND BRAKE CALIPERS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND PARRISH FORD (2900 RIVER RD W., GOOCHLAND, VA) WERE NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
THE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR IS FAULTY AND HAS COME ON AFTER CLOSING MY DOOR AND WHILE DRIVING EVEN THOUGH ALL DOORS ARE SHUT PROPERLY. I WENT SOMEWHERE AND PARKED MY CAR AND LEFT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. WHEN I CLOSED MY DOOR, THE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND REMAINED ON WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY KEPT THE CABIN LIGHTS ON AND EVENTUALLY DRAINED MY BATTERY AND LEFT ME STUCK. I HAVE ALSO WITNESS THE SENSOR GO OFF WHILE DRIVING AND I HAVE HAD TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING TO TRY TO STOP THE CHIMING OF THE SENSOR. AS A SAFETY CONCERN, THIS CAN RESULT IN YOU BEING DISTRACTED WHILE DRIVING OR STRANDED WITH A DEAD BATTERY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM INTERMITTENT FAILURE AT AROUND 100,000 MILES. FAILURE IS WORSENING OVER TIME.
COMING INTO WORK, IN BEGINNING TO TURN A CORNER THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SUDDENLY LOCK UP AND HAD TO LITERALLY FORCE IT TO TURN CORNER. IN TURNING THAT CORNER THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND I DRIFTED INTO A GRASS AREA OUT OF TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY I WAS IN A LOW MPH SETTING. NOW 3 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS THE CAR HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS STAYING IN PARK. EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS TO BE PUT ON BECAUSE THE CAR DRIFTS OUT OF PARK. 2 WEEKS PRIOR WE HAVE HAD THE O2 SENSORS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE BRAKE CYLINDERS ON THE CAR DUE TO HAVING TO FULLY JAM DOWN ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO STOP.

THE CONTACT CALLED CHAPARRAL FORD (102 CO RD 773, DEVINE, TX 78016, (830) 665-4461) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE COULD BRING IN THE VEHICLE TO RECEIVE A REPAIR ESTIMATE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
BREAK BOOSTER WENT OUT ON CAR. THE 2013 FORD EDGE DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN.
THE BRAKES BECAME MUSHY AND LOST ALL STOPPING ABILITY WHILE DRIVING ALMOST CAUSING ME TO RUN INTO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. THE FORD DEALER INFORMS ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER HAS FAILED AND IT WILL COST $950.00 TO REPAIR/REPLACE. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED ME THAT WHILE THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON THE 2013 FORD EDGE, MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 45 THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND ONLY DRIVEN BY MY WIFE AND I IN AND AROUND THE LOCAL AREA...WE ARE BOTH IN OUR 70S. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I FOUND THAT THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURES ON THE 2013 FORD EDGE THAT ARE EXACTLY LIKE THE FAILURE I EXPERIENCED. SO WHY WOULD MY VIN NUMBER BE EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A DEFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEM AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME.
TL* THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE SERVICE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION, BUT WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE AUTO THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CLEANED THE AUTO THROTTLE BODY, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. FORD OF CLERMONT (1101 EAST, W HWY 50, CLERMONT, FL 34711, (352) 394-6161) STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CALL NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,000.
THE 2013 FORD EDGE SE HAS HAD THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING TWICE. ONCE ON A TWO LANE ROAD AND ONCE ON I 95 INTERSTATE WITH OUR FAMILY IN IT. LUCKILY, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. WHEN IT SHUTS DOWN IT SHOWS WRENCH SYMBOL ON DASH AND SAYS SEE USERS MANUAL. THEN THE CAR RESTARTS AND DRIVES NORMALLY UNTIL THE NEXT EVENT. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND WE WILL TAKE THE CAR IN TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. MANY WEB THREADS HAVE POINTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY AS BEING DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. THEN THE ISSUE STOPS. HOPEFULLY THIS DESCRIPTION HELPS ANOTHER FAMILY FROM BEING INJURED ON THE ROADWAYS. IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE THAT CARS WILL HAVE ISSUES BUT ONCE FORD HAS NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM WE HOPE THEY RESOLVE IT IN A TIMELY MANNER. THIS DESCRIPTION IS AN OFFICIAL NOTICE OF THIS SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN OF THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING.
MY VEHICLE SHUTTERS SEVERAL TIMES WHEN.MOVING IN.MOTION. THEN WARNING.COMES ON CHECK FUEL INLET WHILE IN.MOTION. THEN MOMENTS PASS AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY AND IN DRIVE. THEN I PANIC.

THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR A CHECK-UP BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 113,000.
JULY 21, 2019 DRIVING ALONG ON A 35 MPH ROAD AND CAR JUST STOPPED ACCELERATING WHEN PUSHING GAS PEDAL. WRENCH INDICATOR APPEARED AND HAD TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL TO SAFELY PULL OVER. CAR DID RESTART AFTER SHUTTING OFF. SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED AN HOUR LATER GOING THE SAME SPEED. WE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THE NUMEROUS OTHER FORD EDGE SAME COMPLAINTS THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. HAD IT REPLACED AND CAR IS RUNNING SMOOTH WITH NO PROBLEMS. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY AND CONCERNING ISSUE. I CAN'T IMAGINE BEING ON THE EXPRESSWAY LIKE OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. FORD MAKE THIS RIGHT AND PUT OUT A RECALL.
BRAKES STARTED LOSING GRIP AS I ENTERED A 4-WAY STOP. CAR BARELY STOPPED AND BRAKES WORKED INTERMITTENTLY AFTER. BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM ON FORD EDGE CARS. MINE MISSED THE CHANCE TO BE COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY BY ONE! MONTH. LUCKY THE CAR STOPPED, UNLUCKY THAT IT WAS AN EXPENSIVE FIX.
The brake booster and master cylinder failed on my 2013 Ford Edge, which required extreme applications of pressure to the brake pedal to bring the car to a complete stop (the brake pedal would either sink to floor when being depressed or become extremely stiff when attempting to stop). This has been a serious safety risk, as excessive force has been required under normal circumstances to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Independent mechanics were required to replace both the brake booster and master cylinder to resolve the issues.
A DAY AGO AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 FORD EDGE, I NOTICED THAT IT TOOK MORE EFFORT TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I DID THIS IT MADE A HISSING AND SQUEAK SOUND. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO BE CHECKED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP IN DELAWARE. THEY TOLD ME IT IS THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME THE COST WOULD BE $1100. I FOUND A FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE BULLETIN #13N02 THAT SPECIFICALLY EXPLAINS WHAT I AM HAVING REPAIRED. THIS BULLETIN AFFECTS 2010 TO 2013 FORD EDGE FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP MY EDGE VIN IS NOT ON THE LIST. I CALLED FORD AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT BUT THEY NEED TO COVER THIS AS I WAS TOLD CAN POSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION OF THE BRAKES FAILING.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE AC SHUT OFF THE RADIO SHUT OFF AND THE RADIO DISPLAY AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE SLOW DOWN AT FLICKERED OFF FOR A MOMENT THEN CAME BACK ON AND I STOPPED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I THEN STARTED IT WITH NO ISSUES SO I KEPT DRIVING WITHIN LESS THAN HALF A MILE IT DID IT A SECOND TIME AND I TOOK MY CAR HOME AND LET IT SIT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME ITS HAPPENED TO ME SINCE BUYING IT USED IN AUGUST 2018

2013 FORD EDGE LIMITED 45K MILES TAMPA FL - CAR WILL RANDOMLY GO INTO LIMP MODE WITHOUT WARNING AT ANY TIME, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH COME ON ALONG WITH THE WRENCH. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, TWO ON A BUSY 4 LANE CITY STREET ABOVE 40 MPH AND THE LAST WAS WHILE MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE ABOVE 50 MPH. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT WILL EVENTUALLY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. ONCE IN LIMP MODE I WILL HAVE TO PULL OVER, STOP AND RESTART THE CAR AT WHICH POINT THE CAR DRIVES NORMAL. DEALER CAN'T REPLICATE THE FAULT, SO THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH 75K MILES BUT CAN'T USE THAT EITHER AS THE FORD DEALER CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THROUGH RESEARCH I FOUND THE SAME SYMPTOMS ON OTHER FORDS WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS AN ISSUE INCLUDING MY YEAR EDGE. FORD DID A RECALL ON A BUNCH BUT MY YEAR AND MODEL WERE NOT INCLUDED. CLEARLY FORD NEEDS TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL AS THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE.
WE HAVE HAD OUR FORD EDGE FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS AND NO PROBLEMS UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND LOST POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR. MANAGED TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. IT WAS THEN GOOD FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND AGAIN DID IT 5 TIMES THE OTHER DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 91E ONE OF THE MOST BUSY HERE IN CALIFORNIA.THIS CONDITION CAN PUT YOU IN A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT START UP AND AT SLOW SPEEDS BRAKE PEDAL GETS HARD TO PRESS. AT HIGHER SPEEDS BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES SPONGY AND YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH BRAKE PEDAL LEFT. WHEN IN TRAFFIC AND GRADUALLY MOVING FORWARD BREAK PEDAL BECOMES HARD TO PRESS AGAIN. WHEN SETTING AT IDLE AFTER WARMED UP PEDAL WILL GO ALL WAY TO FLOOR AND A LOUD SCREECHING SOUND CAN BE HEARD. PROBLEM IS WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THAT YEAR (2013), RECALL NUMBER 13NO2. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS IT DOESN'T COVER THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WASN'T MANUFACTURED AT A SPECIFIC PLANT. THIS EDGE HAS THE SAME DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEMS THAT LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE DESCRIBED ON LINE FOR THAT YEAR OF VEHICLE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN BRAKES ARE GOING TO BE HARD TO PRESS OR IF THEY'RE GOING TO BE SPONGY. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 45,000 MILES ON IT. A BRAKE BOOSTER SHOULDN'T BE FAILING THAT SOON UNLESS THEIR IS AN ISSUE WITH QUALITY OF MANUFACTURED PART.
SUDDEN ONSET OF ERRATIC BRAKING. PEDAL FEELS INCREDIBLY FIRM AT TIMES, REQUIRING SIGNIFICANTLY MORE PRESSURE THAN NORMAL TO STOP. OTHER TIMES THE PEDAL IS SPONGY AND HAVE A HUGE AMOUNT OF PEDAL TRAVEL. WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED THERE IS AN AUDIBLE HISSING SOUND, AND IF DEPRESSED FULLY, THERE IS A LOUD AUDIBLE SQUEALING SOUND.
2013 FORD EDGE CURRENT ISSUE: WITHOUT ANY WARNING BRAKES STARTED HISSING AND SCREECHING. IN THE SAME DAY THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO PRESS AND DID NOT STOP THE CAR AND THEN THEY WERE LOOSE TO THE FLOOR, BUT THEY DID NOT STOP THE CAR. I GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT THAT SOME VEHICLES WITH THE SAME YEAR 2013 HAVE A RECALL, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE SYMPTOMS LEAD TO A FAILING BREAK BOOSTER. MY CARS INFORMATION SYSTEM CHECK DOES NOT SHOW ANY WARNINGS, BRAKES SAY OK, BUT I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE BRAKES ARE NOT GRINDING. TWICE I HAD TO SWERVE ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS FRIGHTENING TO OCCUR TO ANYONE WITHOUT A SYSTEM WARNING.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL INTO TOWN I TRIED USING THE BRAKES AND THEY WANT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP IN TOWN WITH FAINT TO NO BRAKES OR FEEDBACK. TURNS OUT THE BRAKE/ABS MODULE WAS MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING IT TO DUMP ALL THE PEDDLE INPUT PRESSURE INSTEAD OF APPLYING IT TO THE BRAKES.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE BRAKE BOOSTER DEVELOPED A TEAR CAUSING BY BRAKING SYSTEM TO BECOME DEFECTIVE, BRAKING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHTWAY IN THAT I HAD TO PRESS THE PEDAL VERY HARD TO COME TO A STOP. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN FORD EDGE 2010-2013 MODELS, BUT MY VEHICLE MISSED THE DATE ON THE RECALL BY ONLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS.THE REPAIR IS COSTING ALMOST $700 PLUS COST OF CAR RENTAL WHILE IT WAS BEING REPAIRED.

BRAKES BECAME SPONGY 2 1/2 WEEKS AGO. TOOK TO FAMILY MECHANIC. THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE AND STAYED THE BRAKE PADS ARE IN GREAT CONDITION. WENT ON SHORT VACATION AND THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO BE SPONGY BUT NOT EVERY TIME. WHEN WE RETURNED HOME IT BEGAN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND A HISSING SOUND BEGAN WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. THEN YESTERDAY MORNING THE CAR SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION BUT RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. TOOK IT INTO MECHANIC AGAIN AND THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE BOTH ISSUES. AFTER RESEARCH THEY DISCOVERED A FORD EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE SO I TOWED IT TO NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. NOW THE GARAGE IS TELLING ME IT WILL COST BETWEEN $800 AND $1000 AND MY VIN IS NOT COVERED. THE INFO ONLINE STATES IT SHOULD BE COVERED. I PAY MY FINAL CAR PAYMENT IN 2 WEEKS AND MY ADDITIONAL WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED ENDED IN MAY. IT SEEMS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND SHOULD BE COVERED AND MOST CERTAINLY SHOULD BE RECALLED. IT IS NOT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE OWNED IT BRAND NEW AND AFTER 7 YEARS ONLY HAVE 30K MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE IS IN GREAT CONDITION OTHERWISE. BRAKING ISSUES ALMOST LED TO AN ACCIDENT THE DAY BEFORE AND IT SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING OR LIGHTS FROM THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. WHAT IF WE HAD BEEN ON OUR ROAD TRIP AND GOING 80 MILES AN HOUR? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ISSUE WAS RECREATED AT THE FAMILY MECHANIC IN A PARKED POSITION BUT FOR ME IT WAS OPERATIONAL.

THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WITH AN EVAP. LEAK CODE. WE'VE CHECKED ALL OF THE POSSIBLE ISSUES AND CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM.
