THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING ON MY CAR DUE TO A MANUFACTURE ERROR ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM. MANY COMPLAINTS WERE FILLED WITH FORD. *TR
THE MYTOUCH FEATURE PANEL OCCASSIONALLY LOCKS UP/FREEZES WHEN TRYING TO ACCESS ANY OF THE FEATURES. AMBIENT LIGHTING COLOR CHANGES RANDOMLY. LASTLY, THE VOLUME/ROAD VOLUME ADJUSTMENT DOES NOT WORK AND DID PRIOR TO SYNC UPDATE. *TR
THE " DRIVER DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON CONSTANTLY. BEING A SENIOR CITIZEN, I'M CONCERNED ABOUT BEING CAR JACKED WHEN STOPPED BECAUSE THE DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATE WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT IS ON. ALSO, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHICH CAN ALERT A CAR JACKER. THE FORD DEALER ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE LATCH SENSOR IS $470. *TR
WHEN DOOR CLOSED IT DISPLAYS MESSAGE DRIVERS DOOR AJAR. *TR
AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR THEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE "DOOR AJAR" WILL NOT GO OFF WHICH NOTIFIES THE DRIVER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE MAY NOT PROTECT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS IN THE EVENT AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF TO GET GAS OR ETCETERA, IT KEEPS NOTIFYING YOU TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I THINK THIS IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE DOOR LATCH BEING FAULTY. FORD WANTS $400 TO REPAIR THIS ITEM WHICH I THINK IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AS MANY EDGE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAULTS. *TR
DOOR AJAR LIGHT AND SENSOR STAY ON INTERMITTENTLY, AS DOES INTERIOR LIGHT. DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE 2013 EDGE WHEN SHE STOP IN A LEFT TURN LANE. SHE FOUND THE ROAD WAS CLEAR AND STEPPED ON THE GAS BUT THE CAR DID NOT GO FORWARD. INSTEAD A WARNING MESSAGE POPPED OUT SAYING THE ENGINE LEVEL IS TOO LOW. THEN SHE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR. SAME THING HAPPENED AND THE CAR JUST DIDN'T ACCELERATE. AT LAST SHE MANAGED TO COAST THE CAR TO THE ROADSIDE AND CALLED ME FOR HELP. I ARRIVED IN ABOUT 20 MINS, CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND COOLANT TEMP BUT FOUND NOTHING WRONG. SO I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THIS TIME IT COULD ACCELERATE AS USUAL. AFTER GETTING HOME I CONTACTED THE FORD ROADSIDE ASSIST AND HAD THEM TOW THE CAR TO THE NEARBY DEALER. THERE THEY SCANNED THE CAR BUT ALL TESTS PASSED AND NO CODE HAD BEEN RECORDED. THE EXPLANATION GIVEN BY THE FORD HOTLINE IS THAT THE BOA(BRAKE OVER ACCELERATOR) FEATURE REDUCES ENGINE POWER DURING OFF-IDLE DRIVING WHEN THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS ARE APPLIED SIMULTANEOUSLY. I THINK THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. I ALSO TRIED TO STEP ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS WITH ONE FOOT BUT THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS WILL BE REALLY SCARY IF IT HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY. I FEEL SO FRUSTRATED BY FORD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
BOUGHT THIS EDGE AND IN LESS THAN A MONTH LATER THE "DOOR AJAR" LIGHT STARTING COMING ON. ALMOST A YEAR LATER AND STILL NOTHING HAS WORKED IN FIXING IT. DEALER WANTS $400 TO FIX SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED BY FORD. MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU CANNOT LOCK THE DOORS WHEN YOU HAVE THIS ERROR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ALTHOUGH THE DOOR WAS NOT OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,171.
DATE ABOVE IS FIRST ALERT. HAPPENS EVERYDAY NOW. DOOR LATCH MECHANISM WILL NOT ENGAGE WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED, AND THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. DOORS WILL NOT LOCK AND LIGHTS STAY ON. IT IS DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT WHEN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE ON AND YOU ARE TRYING TO DRIVE. THEY ONLY GO OUT WHEN CAR IS GOING FORWARD. BIG SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE TOLD FORD ABOUT IT AND HAVE MET MANY OTHERS WITH SAME PROBLEM. THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THIS SAFETY FEATURE $350. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED SO ALL OWNERS CAN FEEL SAFE WITH THE DOORS CLOSING, LOCKING AND INTERIOR LIGHTS NOT ILLUMINATING WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE. AND THE MOST ANNOYING BEEPING TO ALERT YOU THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR. IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 1.5 YEARS. I HAD THEM LUBE AND CLEAN IT ONCE AND IT JUST RETURNED. I DID PAY FOR THAT SERVICE. JUST LOOK AT THE FORD EDGE FORUMS. IT IS HAPPENING TO TOO MANY PEOPLE.
THE DRIVER'S DOOR SENSORS INTERMITTENTLY HAVE A "DOOR AJAR" WARNING, THOUGH EACH DOOR IS COMPLETELY SHUT. THE SENSOR IS INSIDE THE LATCH, AND HAS A VERY HIGH FAILURE RATE, BASED ON CURSORY INTERNET RESEARCH. THE WARNING CAN OCCUR WHILE DRIVING,AND/OR APPLYING BRAKES. IT ALERTS THE DRIVER TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK (WHILE DRIVING) WHEN THE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR LIGHT IT ON. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DRIVERS DOOR LATCH FAULTY. CAUSES "DOOR AJAR" AND "SHIFT TO PARK" WARNING LIGHTS EVEN THOUGH DOOR COMPLETELY SHUT. IGNORING THE WARNING LIGHT IS DANGEROUS. UNDER WARRANTY FORD'S PROCEDURE IS STILL TO ONLY CLEAN THE CONTACTS AND NOT REPLACE THE UNIT. THIS FAULT OCCURRED AGAIN AFTER THEY CLEANED. *TR
WHEN SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, BRAKE PEDAL FALLS TO THE FLOOR, VEHICLE IS STILL STOPPED, BUT VERY UNNERVING FEELING. THEY REPLACED BRAKE BOOSTER, AND IT STILL HAPPENS, AND FORD DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM, THAT THIS IS NORMAL
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK, SPECIFICALLY THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR, STARTED MALFUNCTIONING AFTER APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. THIS CAUSES A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE AS LONG AS THE DOOR AJAR ERROR APPEARS ON THE MESSAGE WINDOW, THE COMPUTER WILL NOT ALLOW ANY OF THE DOORS TO LOCK. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE OCCUPANT(S) COULD BE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR A ROLLOVER. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEALER WANTS BETWEEN $300 AND $500 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY PART (COST $90) DUE TO HAVING TO DISMANTLE THE DOOR TO ACCESS THE PART. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THERE ARE DO IT YOURSELFERS REPAIRING OR DISABLING THE SENSOR, WHICH COULD CREATE OTHER DANGERS IF THE DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY RECONSTRUCTED. FURTHER INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE ABOUT 1996 AND IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ACROSS SEVERAL MODELS AND PLATFORMS (CARS, TRUCKS AND SUV'S). THE OTHER MINOR ANNOYANCE IS THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF AS LONG AS THE SENSOR IS ACTIVATED, CAUSING BATTERY DRAIN AND SECURITY ISSUES.
THE WARNING "DOOR AJAR" ON DRIVER'S DOOR KEEPS DINGING EVEN THOUGH DOOR IS LATCHED. SOMETIMES SLAMMING THE DOOR ONCE (OR 3-8 TIMES) WILL GET THE WARNING OFF THE DISPLAY PANEL. MANY TIMES I HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE WARNING THE WHOLE TIME I'M DRIVING AS IT INSISTS THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR. VERY ANNOYING TO THE POINT OF BEING A DRIVING DISTRACTION!

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE DOOR NEEDED TO BE OPENED AND CLOSED MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE SENSOR TO DETECT THE DOORS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BECOMES AJAR AND YOU HAVE TO OPEN AND SHUT THE DOOR NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE THE ALERT GO AWAY. THE DOME LIGHTS STAY ON AND AT NIGHT THIS IS A HAZARD. ALSO, EVERY TIME YOU START TO ACCELERATE THE CAR BEEPS AND TELLS YOU TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, WHICH IS A HUGE DISTRACTION. *TR
"DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ALARMS FOR THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS NOT AJAR. *JS
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED: I WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, WHEN THE CAR PRETTY WELL JUST SHUT DOWN. IT DID NOT GO INTO LIMP MODE. I WAS STOPPED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY WITH NO POWER AT ALL. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO ONCOMING VEHICLES AT THIS TIME. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT, AND IT WENT LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. UNFORTUNATELY ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS AND THE SUCH WENT OFF ON RESTART. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD HOUSE HERE. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THE COMPUTER DID NOT HAVE ANY ERROR CODES. SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AT THIS TIME IT DID IT HIGHLY INTERMITTENTLY AND FAR BETWEEN EACH TIME. SO IT WENT ON LIKE THAT FOR ABOUT THE LAST YEAR. IT GOT TO THE POINT THOUGH YOU COULDNT DRIVE ANYWHERE WITH OUT IT HAPPENING. I WOULDN'T EVEN LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE CAR, DUE TO THIS ISSUE OR MY KIDS TO RIDE IN IT. RECENTLY IT STARTED DOING IT ALOT MORE OFTEN. SO, FINALLY I COULD TAKE IT TO THE FORD HOUSE AND THEY COULD REPLICATE IT. TOOK IT OVER TO THE SHOP THIS MORNING, DROVE 15 MILES AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN 7 TIMES IN TRAFFIC. FINALLY AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF OF BEING UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE, IT DID IT WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING IT. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CULPRIT. I KNEW IT, THEY KNEW IT, ALL ALONG AND REFUSED TO FIX IT. NOW THEY HAD TO FIX IT. FIGURED IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THROTTLE BODY FAILURES. NOPE, I HAD TO SHELL OUT $600 FOR A PART THAT FORD AND THE NHTSA KNEW WAS A BAD PART.
AT LEAST FIVE SEPARATE TIMES, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED, MY 2013 FORD EDGE WILL BEGIN TO HESITATE AND SHUDDER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGINS TO FLASH AND THEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSES POWER. I CAN BARELY KEEP THE VEHICLE GOING AT ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR. I CAN GENERALLY COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR FREEWAY. I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND LET IT SIT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE I CAN TURN IT BACK ON AND RESTORE POWER TO DRIVE IT. IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO THE FORD DEALER SERVICE THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE AND REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. DESPITE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON, THE COMPUTER IS THROWING NO ERROR MESSAGES. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE AND SCARY SITUATION. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN. TO DO SO WOULD PUT MYSELF IN DANGER, MY PASSENGERS AND OTHER DRIVERS IN DANGER. I HAVE APPLIED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR A BUY BACK UNDER THEIR "REACQUISITION PROGRAM" BUT WAS TOLD ON JANUARY 8, 2015 THAT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY UNDER CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW. I WAS GIVEN NO EXPLANATION OR OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS THIS DECISION WITH FORD. MY PROBLEM SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THIS ARTICLE, ALTHOUGH MY EDGE IS A 4-CYLINDER WITH AN ECO-BOOST ENGINE. DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED AND THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK.
WHILE DRIVING, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WARNING COMES UP ON THE DASH AND A BELL WILL RING SAYING THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR. SOMETIMES IT SAYS TO PUT CAR IN PARK. I OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR AND IT FIXES THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY, ONLY TO HAPPEN AGAIN. HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. *JS
MY VEHICLE IS A 2014 FORD EDGE WITH LESS 40,000 MILES. THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING THUS PREVENTING THE DOOR TO LOCK WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. MY CHILD HAS OPENED THE DOOR ON MANY OCCASIONS WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND ALMOST FELL OUT. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THERE MANY ONLINE FORUMS WITH CUSTOMERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE DATING BACK TO 2010. AND INSTEAD OF DOING RECALL FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB. *TR
DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON WHEN DOOR IS OBVIOUSLY CLOSED. IT CAN TAKE UP TO 10-15 SLAMS TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF. ANNOYING ALERT TONE GOES OFF UNTIL IT'S CLOSED AND DOME LIGHT STAYS ON. ALSO, CAR WILL NOT LOCK IF DOOR DOES NOT REGISTER AS CLOSED. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED FOR OVER A YEAR, BUT ODDLY GOES AWAY DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. JUST NOW, MY WINDSHEILD WIPERS WON'T TURN OFF. I DON'T KNOW IF THESE ISSUES ARE RELATED, BUT IT ALL SEEMS ELECTRICAL IN NATURE.
DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINING AFTER DOORS ARE CLOSED. ON DASH MESSAGE BOARD SAYS TO PUT CAR IN PARK. DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN PUT IN GEAR AUTOMATICALLY CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE LIMITED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RUBBER SEAL FOR THE VISTA SUN ROOF WAS DEFECTIVE AND AS A RESULT, FAILED TO CLOSE COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT DUE TO THE FAILURE WATER LEAK IN CAUSING WATER DAMAGE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CARPET AND BOTH FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER LEATHER SEATS WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED BY WATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUN ROOF TRACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION THE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE SUN ROOF TRACK DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 78 MILES AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND PASSING OTHER VEHICLES, THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JACKY JONES FORD OF HAYESVILLE (1493 US-64, HAYESVILLE, NC 28904, 828-389-6325), BUT COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED THAT THE SOURCE OF THE ODOR COULD BE THAT THE REAR SPOILER WAS HOLDING EXHAUST FUMES. THE REAR SPOILER WAS RESEALED WITH SEALANT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ISSUE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE MANGER WAS ADVISED BY THE FORD CORPORATE OFFICE TO SEAL ALL THE HOLES, ESPECIALLY BY BOLTS WHERE ANY ODOR COULD ENTER THE VEHICLE FROM UNDERNEATH. THE HOLES WERE SEALED, BUT FUMES STILL ENTERED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED MANY TIMES BY THE CONTACT, BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,905.*BF *JS
DOOR AJAR REMAINS ON WHEN DOORS ARE CLOSED. CANNOT LOCK DOORS WHEN IN VEHICLE. VERY UNSAFE WITH CHILDREN. INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON AND DRAIN BATTERY.
THE DOOR LATCH ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS NOT LATCHING PROPERLY. THE INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWING THE DOOR OPEN APPEARS AND THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT REMAINS ON. IT WILL SHOW THIS WARNING RANDOMLY, AS WELL AS ANYTIME THE DRIVER'S DOOR IS OPENED AND SHUT.
THIS IS THE ISSUE OF DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYING 'ON' FOR THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR. THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS 'ON' EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR IS PROPERLY SHUT. IT WAS STARTED AS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE BUT NOW THE WARNING STAYS 'ON' ALL THE TIME AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOWS THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR STAYS OPEN ALL THE TIME. EVERY TIME I STOP, THE WARNING FOR DOOR AJAR COMES ON. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE OR NOT BUT INITIALLY EVERY TIME THE WARNING SOUNDS, I USED TO LOOK AT INSTRUMENT PANEL FOR WHAT THE WARNING IS ABOUT BUT NOW I HAVE STARTED TO IGNORE IT. I HOPE I DON'T IGNORE ANY OTHER IMPORTANT WARNINGS THAT ARE RELATED TO SAFETY. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AJAR WHEN THE DOOR IS POSITIVELY SHUT. NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO SHUT THE DOOR FAIL TO TURN OFF INTERIOR LAMPS AND LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE I CAN NOT DEPICT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FAULTY SWITCH OR MY CHILD ACTUALLY OPENING ONE OF THE VEHICLE DOORS. DEFECTIVE DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY SHOWS DOOR A-JAR WHEN CLOSED. INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON AND DOOR WILL NOT LOCK. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT WHEN THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS ARE BLINDING TO THE DRIVER AND CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF WHILE DOOR A-JAR WARNING LIGHT IS ACTIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE HIS VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V002000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED SINCE THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED IN JANUARY OF 2014, THERE SHOULD BE A REMEDY AVAILABLE BEFORE APRIL OF 2014. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE TIME FOR REPAIR. THERE ARE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
UPON CLOSING THE DRIVERS DOOR, THE CABIN LIGHTS REMAINED ON AND THE 'DOOR AJAR' INDICATOR LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. AFTER REPEATED OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE DOOR, THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THIS PROBLEM KEEPS HAPPENING ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK. ONE TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE CABIN LIGHTS CAME ON AND STARTLED ME. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO SUDDEN REDUCED VISIBILITY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT, TSB# 14-0083. THE REPAIR CONSISTED OF REMOVING THE INNER DOOR PANEL AND CLEANING THE ACTUATOR SWITCH. THE WARRANTY ON THIS CAR HAS EXPIRED, SO THE REPAIR COST ME $164.00. I THINK FORD SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR THIS IN FULL. WHY IS THIS NOT ON A RECALL? *JS

DRIVING MY GRANDSON TO HIS BASKETBALL GAME LAST FRIDAY EVENING, DRIVING ON THE HWY AT 60 MPH, MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY QUIT. I HAD TO DRAG THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT TOTALLY SHUT DOWN. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING BELT BROKE AND WRAPPED AROUND THE CRANK SHAFT. DRIVER SIDE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING - RESULTING IN DOORS NOT LOCKING AUTOMATICALLY, WARNING ALARM SOUNDING, INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYING ON. HAD REPAIR MADE AT LOCAL FORD DEALER. SAME PROBLEM/SYMPTOMS AGAIN IN MAY, 2015. LOCAL DEALER STATES THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FROM MANUFACTURER THUS FREEING SAID DEALER OF LIABILITY. COMPLAINT FILED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. ONLINE SEARCHES YIELD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FORD EDGE.
BOUGHT MY CAR IN FEBRUARY OF 2014. (WE WERE THE 2ND OWNERS. NOT SURE IF PREVIOUS OWNERS EXPERIENCED TROUBLE BEFORE THEY TRADED THE CAR IN.) ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH "DOOR AJAR" LIGHTS STAYING ON WHICH CAUSED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO STAY ON WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT ALSO DOESN'T ALLOW THE DOORS TO LOCK THEMSELVES AUTOMATICALLY WHEN DRIVING. WE HAD SENSORS REPLACED BY FORD ON BOTH FRONT DOORS AFTER A LOT OF BACK AND FORTH WITH THEM LAST YEAR. NOW WE ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH A SENSOR ON ONE OF THE BACK DOORS THAT'S CAUSING ALL THE SAME PROBLEMS AS LAST TIME ONLY THIS TIME WE ARE ALSO HAVING TROUBLE WITH INTERIOR LIGHTS COMING ON AND GOING OFF ON THEIR OWN WHILE THE CAR IS SITTING PARKED. NOBODY LIKES A DEAD BATTERY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. RIGHT NOW THIS IS A WARRANTY ISSUE FOR ME BUT WILL EVENTUALLY COST AROUND $500 A POP TO FIX AND MORE IMPORTANTLY IT POSES A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE CHILDREN RIDING IN MY CAR IF THEIR DOOR DOESN'T LATCH PROPERLY & I DON'T KNOW IT BECAUSE I ASSUME IT'S JUST THE SENSOR ACTING UP AGAIN. THE DRIVER DOOR ALMOST ALWAYS REPORTS THAT IT IS AJAR DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS CLOSED. IT WILL OCCASIONALLY STOP REPORTING THE PROBLEM IF I REPEATEDLY OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR. THIS PREVENTS THE DOORS FROM LOCKING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON IN THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. THE ALERT WILL ALSO CHIME EVERY TIME I START FROM A COMPLETE STOP WHICH IS VERY DISTRACTING. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DON DAVIDSON FORD DEALERSHIP IN ARLINGTON TEXAS BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN BREAKING WEIRD, SMELLING FUNNY, SHAKING HARD & LOSING SPEED ON THE FREEWAY(ALL AT ONCE) WHICH IT DOES SPORADICALLY. THE SAID THEY CAN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM SO THERE'S NOTHING WRONG & GAVE IT BACK TO ME ON FRIDAY. I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE MALL & IT DID IT AGAIN SO I TOOK IT BACK IMMEDIATELY. THEY KEPT IT FOR A FEW HOURS & TRIED TO GIVE IT BACK AGAIN, SAYING THAT I DROVE WITH THE EBRAKE ON (WHICH IT WASN'T). NOW I LEFT MY CAR THERE, THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING & I'M PAYING FOR A RENTAL FOR THE FOURTH DAY BECAUSE I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY OWN CAR. FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS THE MESSAGE KEPT COMING ON THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS NOT WORKING. THE ON/OFF LIGHT SAID OFF ABOUT 98% OF THE TIME. AND A ICON LIGHT IN THE DASHBOARD WOULD OCCASIONALLY COME ON. THE MESSAGE SAID THE SENSOR WAS BLOCKED, BUT THERE WASN'T ANY CHANGE IN THE AREA AROUND THE SEAT. WENT TO SERVICE THE 2/19 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT ACTUALLY TURNED BACK ON WHEN I DROVE IN TO DROP IT AT SERVICE, OF COURSE. BUT WE DID GO ABOUT 3 DAYS WITH NO AIRBAG FOR SOME REASON. JUST FELT I SHOULD REPORT THIS BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. *TR
ARRIVING HOME THE EVENING OF FEBRUARY 15, 2014 MY TWO SONS (BOTH ADULTS) SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING WHEN WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AT OUR HOUSE. UPON INSPECTION, THEY NOTICED THE RUBBER COVER OVER THE POSITIVE POST ON THE BATTERY HAD MELTED SLIGHTLY. I CALLED THE NEAREST FORD DEALER MONDAY MORNING (2/17/14) TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE WRONG CIRCUIT BREAKER ASSEMBLY HAD BEEN INSTALLED ON THE BATTERY. AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE FUSE WAS BY-PASSED WITH THE USE OF A LARGE PAPER CLIP. TALK ABOUT RIGGING SOMETHING UP!!! THIS PAPER CLIP HAD GOTTEN SO HOT IT EVEN BURNED A HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE BATTERY ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. I HAVE A PHOTO. THIS WAS ONLY DISCOVERED WHEN THE NEW CIRCUIT BREAKER ASSEMBLY WAS ABOUT TO BE INSTALLED. IT WAS ALL HIDDEN BY THE RUBBER COVER. WE DID NOT THINK TO INSPECT THIS UPON PURCHASE IN JULY, 2013. IT WAS A BRAND NEW CAR! THIS WAS A TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN. FORTUNATELY IT DID NOT. UNDER HARD ACCELERATION OR WIDE OPEN THROTTLE THE INSIDE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE IS OVER COME BY AN EXHAUST LIKE SMELL. THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS SINCE IT WAS NEW, THINKING IT WAS FROM THE ENGINE BREAKING IN I NEVER THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT IT. NOW AFTER MORE THAN SIX MONTHS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE AND MORE THAN 8,000 MILES, THIS IS MORE THAN NEW CAR BREAK IN SMELL. THE SMELL OCCURS 100% OF THE TIME UNDER HARD ACCELERATION OR WIDE OPEN THROTTLE, WITH OR WITHOUT THE AC ON OR IN AC RECYCLE MODE. FROM THE FORUMS THAT I HAVE READ, THE OWNERS OF FORD EDGE'S AND FORD EXPLORER'S WITH THE 3.5L V6 ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE THAT I AM. THE SMELL IS OVERWHELMING TO ALL PASSENGERS THAT RIDE IN THE VEHICLE. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THE SMELL IS DANGEROUS TO BREATH IN AND SECOND THAT IT'S VERY ANNOYING TO SMELL ALL THE TIME. *TR

DOOR AJAR LIGHT CONTINUALLY COME ON, WHICH RESULTS IN A WARNING LIGHT, DOORS WON'T LOCK, CAN SET THE ALARM WHEN PARKED. THE DOOR (DRIVER SIDE DOOR) IS CLEARLY CLOSED.
