NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2013 Ford Edge. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The vehicle has spongy brakes, it takes more time to stop. This problem is in crescendo and it has been affecting it for a while. You have to pump them to ascertain it will stop. I have seen other owners complaint about the same problem. My 2013 Ford Edge Eco Boost only has 55,993 miles several times we have verified that it does not consume brake liquid, pads are ok.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the brake pedal was hard to operate and sluggish. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed with brake booster failure. The brake booster was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to Ford Technical Service Bulletin: 13N02. The approximate failure mileage was 82,928
The brake pedal is soft, and have to press to the floor to stop. It's full of fluid and has no leaks. This problem came up a couple of months ago and the fluid was a little low so I topped it off. It did it again today, but the fluid is full.
I was driving the vehicle and the vehicle stopped driving. All the lights came on saying no fuel low oil pressure and traction to be fixed etc. I was in the middle of a busy road. Almost caused a serious accident.
Since July 1, 2022 my car has completely shut down, as of today, four different days (almost on a weekly basis). I am noticing, that when I am at a stop light/sign and then accelerate the car will shut down all electrical. I cruise to a stop, put the car in park, and start the engine, again. The wrench light will flash right before the car shuts down. The car has been doing this since at least October 2021. I have taken it to three different mechanics (including the Ford dealer mechanic in May, 2022) and no one can find anything wrong with the car. I took the car last week to replace the coolant pump at the Santa Monica Ford and they couldn't find anything else wrong with the car (again). So far, I've been lucky. This has only occurred on city streets and I have been able to pull the car over to the right to start the engine. I have only been driving on the streets because I'm afraid it's going to shut down in the middle of the freeway and cause an accident. I search the internet and find that many people are having the same issue with this car model. Someone suggested it could be the throttle body, so I had that cleaned in October, 2021, but the trouble came back. Help!!!!
Driving along normally, the Wrench Indicator light comes on and the vehicle looses all engine power and until you turn the vehicle off, it will only run at about 2 mph. This has happened several times over a period of about four weeks. Each time this occurred , the vehicle began working normally after it was turned off and turned back on. The car was taken twice to a local repair shop in Ocean View DE. In each instance, no codes could be recovered and the malfunction didn't occur while they were troubleshooting. I was advised to take it to a Ford Dealer. We took it to the Boulevard (Preston) Ford dealership in Georgetown DE. It was in their shop for 5 days and they also could not identify the problem. We were told that they ren diagnostics on it and test drove the vehicle twice while it was in their hands.
At mileage 99,229 I was told by the mechanic shop that the ABS hydraulic system needed to be replaced. I was having issues with the brakes not responding properly when coming to a stop and the brake pedals would have to be pushed down to the floor in order to come to a complete stop. This was indeed a safety concern for me. No warning signs appeared on my dash & even while using the system check option on the dash, it would read Brakes are ok.
Brake line failure on braking to turn. Brakes totally did not function. Slowing down had to downshift and use parking brake to slow down and stop. Had 2 children in the car at the time. Had to have car towed to shop. Was out of state in rural Wisconsin. He verified that this was not normal and should never have failed. Have less than 56000 miles on car and garage kept. Could have been fatal. I took a picture
Brakes stopped worked. Brakes are spongy. Brake fluid started spewing. Per the ford recall with the brake hose, this should be included.
The component involved was the Throttle Body. Late post but this happened 7/5/22. The vehicle unexpectedly (and without any warning) lost power while I was driving on the freeway. All the power was off in the vehicle. Fortunately the freeway wasn't as crowded as it normally is and I was able to coast over the shoulder. I let the vehicle rest and tried to drive (while on the shoulder to get to a safer/wider part) again but it quickly lost power again. When I got to a safer part of the shoulder I called for a tow truck. After having a previous issue with this vehicle (brake booster went bad which caused the brake pedal to get hard to press and car would also shut off) I looked into other common issue with this vehicle make and model. I read the other horror stories of this vehicle losing power while driving and hoped to you know who that this wouldn't happen to me while my child was with me. Ford had a recall for the brake booster issue but it didn't match my VIN. Apparently Ford supposedly narrowed the issue down to a few manufacturing sites and did not include all vehicles made during those years. It is clearly a systemic issue for this vehicle, just like the throttle body issue ( and others) the Ford is too cheap to fix! I am going to assume this is the same issue with my throttle body not being recalled for my specific VIN since my vehicle wasn't made at a certain manufacturing site (even though Ford is clearly using the same parts on their vehicles). It's BS and dangerous! They don't care about us, just profits but that's really no surprise nowadays with these companies. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to switch vehicles or else I would. This was my first and probably last Ford I'll ever own.

My 2013 Ford Edge leaks a pinkish fluid. After taking it to two mechanics, they have determined the water pump is leaking onto the engine which could potentially cause a fire. The repair costs has been quoted at least $3,000. There have been over 100,000 reports of this failure for this vehicle. Why hasn't there been a recall?
While making a right turn and using the brakes at the same time, the brake pedal goes to the floor all at once. Then I pretty much have no braking at all. Goes to the floor and slowly comes to a stop.It went to 4 different shops because none of them could find a problem. No warning lights on dash. No codes showing up. Brakes bled, booster and master cylinder replaced and it still went to the floor. My insurance was contacted and the booster had extended warranty. I watched videos on Youtube and saw where mechanics found out it was due to the ABS pump unit. Valves are sticking inside this $500 part. I went in reverse about 15 mph and slammed the brakes, the pedal came back up and felt fine for a few months. It has now happened again and I cannot get the pedal to return this time. I am retired, disabled and on a fixed SS income with no savings and cannot get this fixed without getting a loan. Personally, I think this should be a recall, because if you research Edge forums and Youtube you'll find it happens a LOT. I love my Edge and want to keep it, but not without brakes. I've been driving it scared and real slow just to go to appointments. It's dangerous, but I have no other way. The ABS module is at fault. If I were younger I could tackle this myself and save labor cost, but I have COPD and NSCLC, on oxygen. Please, research this.
On occasion the brake pedal would go to the floor. It has been very unsafe because at first it might happen only once every 2 months. After several times of happening, took to dealer and diagnosed with a abs control assembly bad. Been told 2400 of abs module are on backorder. Cannot drive car and has been at dealership for 2 months. If there are that many of this component on backorder, Ford should be issuing a recall due to real safety issues with vehicle .
I had put a complaint for my 2013 ford edge regarding broken rails.for my sunroofs. No luck with that. Now my window is flew and broke, do i have no glass. Please help
i would come to a stop and all of a sudden i would have to press all the way down on brakes to the floor for the car to stop. I took the car and got the master cylinder replaced. 5/2/2002 and now on 6/22/2022 the brakes did not work again, so i took back to machanic, he then checked the brake pads, brake oil all was working fine. There are no codes on the dash. I am very worried if I am on the freeway this could happen and I get in a serious accident. I did call the ford dealer here in town and just to diagnose they charge $160.00

On June 7th, 2022 my wife [XXX] was driving her 2013 Ford Edge and stopped at the Belks Department store located at the Tri-City Mall located in Forest City, NC 28043. She parked her car and went inside to shop. After approximately 10 minutes shopping inside the store, she hears an announcement over the Belks Store intercom “ Would the person driving a White Ford Edge please come to the cosmetic counter. When she walks over to the counter a store employee, and a customer, told her that her car had rolled down the parking lot and hit a parked tractor trailer rig ( trailer only). Fortunately it did not hit any other cars located in the parking lot. The front end of the Ford Edge was severely damaged, including, front hood, front bumper, grilles, coolant fan, and other front end items. The tractor trailer was not damaged. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The brake booster has failed on this model of Ford, and Ford has not acknowledged that this vin # associated with this model of Edge. There are some models of 2013 Ford Edges that they did repair under their CSP program. I feel like they need to extend their coverage across other 2013 Ford Edge vehicles, because other users are experiencing the same thing.

We purchased a 2013 Ford Edge less than a year ago. Brakes went out. The pedal goes all the way down to floor and makes a hissing sound. I researched online and this is the case for hundreds of 2013 Ford Edge owners. Please look this up on carcomplaints.com This is a life or death safety issue. Our vehicle rolled through a stop sign because the brakes didn't stop us. I'm so worried that I can't have my children ride in this vehicle with me. There was a 13N02 for 2013 Ford Edges replacing the brake booster but not all 2013 ones. My wasn't included. There were no warning lights prior to brakes giving out and they are now so bad. They brake pedal is so low to the floor. I have an appointment on the 6th. They said that this is a known issues with Ford Edges but no recalls have been issued by Ford. Please Talk to Ford so they can issue a recall. There are hundreds of people online with this same problem. Brakes are the scariest issue to have with a car. I don't want hurt/killed.

The dome lights won’t shut off when all the doors are shut
The afternoon of Friday, March 25, 2022 I was driving over Balcom Canyon and my brake pedal went all the way to the floor with no response! In my almost 30 years of driving I have NEVER experienced something so terrifying! I literally could've died (or caused a collision with another person, endangering everyone involved). I immediately took my car (2013 Ford Edge Limited) to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle (Valencia). They tell me it's the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) and will cost me $2,000 to replace! This is an OBVIOUS safety issue and a matter of life or death. Upon doing more research, I have discovered that this is an ongoing issue with Ford vehicles and I feel it is UNACCEPTABLE to allow people to be put in these types of situations KNOWING of this defect! And to not recall/repair the issue?! Shame on Ford! Something needs to be done. They are putting everyone's lives and safety at risk! I purchased my car new on Labor Day 2013 so I've had it 8.5 years BUT it only has 42,000 miles on it! And it is very well-maintained and in immaculate condition. There were no warning lights or sounds or anything. Just no brakes. On a CANYON road! I feel this is absolutely unacceptable and now I am not even comfortable driving my own car anymore! I was already a bit of an "anxious" driver but now I'm totally traumatized and feel I can't trust my own car's braking system?! Just crazy! Please do something about this NOW
2013 Ford Edge "Water pump" The Water pump is driven off the timing chain. When the water pump fails it either leaks into the engine on early models or it throws the timing out. The dealer wants $2500.00 to replace the water pump because of all the labor too get to the pump inside of engine. You have to pull the timing chain cover. Remove most of the engine to get to it. When the timing is knocked off from the pump, Valves hit pistons. Now you have to pull heads and replace bent valves. Duel overhead cams. If the pump leaks coolant into engine, Game over! Milk shake! The engine bearings are gone. New Engine! This is without a doubt the worst designed engine out there. They could have made the pump to be driven from the outside of the timing cover from the serpentine belt. It has two belts! This is an engineering cluster f**k! Good Luck!
