THE STEERING COLUMN IS BAD AND NEEDS REPLACING AND THE STEERING ASSIST RELAY MODULE AND WHEEL POSITION SENSOR, THIS IS IDENTICAL TO THE MODELS PRODUCED AT THE KANSAS CITY PLANT. MY SON WAS DRIVING AND THE ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST WENT TOTALLY OUT AND REQUIRED EXTREME FORCE TO TURN THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THIS COULD HAVE HAD LIFE THREATENING POTENTIAL HAD HE NOT MAINTAINED CONTROL
COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING DURING ANY POINT IN DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SUB FRAME HAD EXPERIENCED SEVERE CORROSION AND RUSTING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER HONDRU FORD(300 S. MAIN ST. MANHEIM PA.) AND THE MANUFACTURER CASE (XXX) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. "TAKATA RECALL" I CALLED FORD IN NOVEMBER 2018 TO CHECK FOR ANY RECALLS. I HAD 2 THEY SAID THE PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED AND THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK FOR AN APPOINTMENT AS SOON AS THE PARTS CAME IN. I GOT A CALL THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE STEERING RECALL. THEN ON JANUARY 12 2019 MY STEERING GOT REALLY STIFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON THE CITY STREET TO GO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER FROM HER SCHOOL. MONDAY JANUARY 14TH I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN THEN I GET A CALL SAYING ITS NOTHING THEY CAN DO CAUSE IT DON'T HAVE TO DO WITH THE RECALL BUT CLEAR ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD IT SAYS "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT " SAME RECALL NOW THEY TELLING ME 1700 TO FIX IT. I HAVE HAD MY TRUCK ALMOST 2 YEARS COME MARCH AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY STEERING UNTIL I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 171,000.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. ESPECIALLY ON TURNS.
THE POWER STEERING FAILS SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING. YOU CAN STILL STEER BUT IT IS DIFFICULT, SOMETIMES IT WILL FAIL AS SOON AS YOU CRANK THE VEHICLE. YOU CAN TURN OFF VEHICLE THEN RESTART AND IT WILL BE OK. THIS IS A INTERMITTENT PROBLEM FOR NOW. THERE IS A RECAL BUT ONLY FEW MODELS WITH THE CORRECT VIN NUMBER. HOWEVER EVERYWHERE ON LINE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THE RECAL WILL NOT COVER BECAUSE OF THE VIN NUMBER. THE STEERING SHOULD LAST THE DURATION OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ALL SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECAL. NOT JUST A SELECT FEW THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR IN MOTION, OR SETTING STILL. NO PATTERN
THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK AND WE HAVE SEEN WHERE A LOT OF THESE SAME VEHICLES HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON THESE.
INTERMITTENT POWER OUTAGE OF STEERING WHILE DRIVING. CAUSES UNSAFE STEERING AND LOW SPEED DRIVING, FORD ADMITS PROBLEM CLOSED RECALL. VEHICLE HAS 35500 MILES WELL MAINTAINED. WHEN STEERING POWER STOPS HAZARD DRIVING CONDITION WILL CA USE ACCIDENT.
CORRECTIONS FROM ORIGINAL COMPLAINT#11165049 INDICATED BY * ASTERISK. I CALLED FORD IN OCTOBER FOR RECALL #14S05, BECAUSE MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO STIFFEN UP TO THE POINT THAT I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE IT. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL IN THAT BATCH OF RECALLS. FORD STATED I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY WORK DONE. I HAD CREDIT WITH FIRESTONE SO FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT THERE FOR THIS STIFF STEERING. FIRESTONE DID COMPLETE A BRAKE INSPECTION AND REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, AND AIR TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ON OCT. 11, 2018. I HAVE HAD MY CAR TOWED HOME, THEN TO ONE CAR REPAIR PLACE AND THEN TO FIRESTONE CAR CARE SERVICE CENTER CAUSING ME TO SPEND CASH MONEY FOR ONE TOW, AND ONE BY TRIPLE AAA BOTH IN ONE DAY, AND NOW THIS RECENT TOW EXHAUSTED ALL MY TOWS WITH TRIPLE AAA. I CAN'T RE-TOW UNTIL *1/19/2019 FOR RENEWAL, BUT RUN THE RISK IF IS THE SAME PROBLEM THEY STILL MAY NOT TOW MEANING ADDITIONAL MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET ON A RETIRED PENSION. ON *JAN. 5, 2019 STIFF STEERING ISSUE RETURNED. I WAS ABOUT TO HEAD FOR ELGIN, ILLINOIS AND ON THE EXPRESSWAY, AND NOTICED WHEN CHANGING LANES THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO STIFFEN. I PULLED OVER AND HAD TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS I GOING TO DO. I MANAGED TO GET BACK ON EXPRESSWAY TURN AROUND AND RETURN TO MY AUNT'S HOME, AND THEN THE WHEEL GOT EXTREMELY STIFF ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED FOR A TOW TO FIRESTONE SINCE I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING THEY MAY HAVE DONE INCORRECTLY. FIRESTONE CALLED ME AND STATED THAT THIS ISSUE WAS BEYOND THEIR CAPABILITY. IT IS A DEFECT, AND I NEED TO TAKE IT TO FORD.
1/9/19 FOLLOWUP ON A CORRECTION FOR COMPLAINT #11165049 TO SAY THAT THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 1/5/19 NOT 12/5/19. I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY CONFUSION. I WILL ALSO SEND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE RESULTS FROM FIRESTONE. I WILL THEN BE TOWING MY VEHICLE ONCE MORE TO AL PIEMONTE FORD FOR POSSIBLE REPAIR. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND PLACED AS A RECALL REGARDLESS OF IF IT BELONGED TO A PARTICULAR BATCH OF VEHICLES, WHICH IS WHAT I WAS TOLD BY FORD IN OCTOBER. I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AND I ADDED FLUID ONCE. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID INSIDE THE ENGINE BAY LIKE IT HAS BEEN SPRAYING. I DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION COOLER LEAK AND OTHERS HAD IT FIXED UNDER RECALL FOR 2008. THIS IS A ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE.
LOST ELECTRICAL ASSIST POWER STEERING, FOUND OUT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT FORD REFUSES TO FIX
IN 2014, FORD HAD AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RECALL, 14S05, FOR ESCAPES. I HAD A DEALERSHIP PERFORM THE CODE REPROGRAMMING IN OCTOBER 2014. FOUR YEARS LATER, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THERE ARE LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON THE CAR SO THERE'S NOT A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON THE VEHICLE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY BOTH SAID THAT SINCE I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE RECALL, THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY WILL DO. THIS SEEMS LIKE IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AT FORD AND THEY FOUND A WAY AROUND HAVING TO FIX ALL THE CARS THEY MADE WITH FAULTY POWER STEERING. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE ESCAPE SO I KNOW THAT IT HAS BEEN LIGHTLY USED.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle did not immediately stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the brake master cylinder however, the failure recurred. The local dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the failure was due to a faulty ABS module however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 200,000.
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND THEN POWER STEERING CAME BACK. WHEN I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING IS STILL NOT WORKING. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT MY ESCAPE WAS NOT PART OF THE NATIONAL RECALL.
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2017. APPROXIMATELY MID DECEMBER 2018 A CODE POPPED UP ON MY DASH "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AS I DRIVE. I CODE IS CONTINUOUSLY ON. I CONTACTED FORD, WHO TELL ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2009 FORD ESCAPE IN 2016 FOR THIS EXACT CODE, BUT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ASSEMBLED IN KANSAS CITY, THAT THEY CANNOT FIX IT UNDER THE RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. I DON'T FEEL THIS IS RIGHT, AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD BE DANGEROUS IF I LOSE MY POWER STEERING WHILE ON THE ROAD. *TT*JB
EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING CUTTING OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY WHEN PARKING. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 15 MPH. DEALER NOTES "REPLACED STEERING TORQUE ANGLE SENSOR" FOR CODE P2278. VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL OF 2008-2011 FORD ESCAPES EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE.
POWER STEERING FAILED AND STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVINGU
THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON AND THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY STALL WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. IT JUST SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING--NO ENGINE PROBLEMS APPARENT, LIKE SPUTTERING OR ANY OTHER WARNING SIGN. IT IS SCARY, AS I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR-ENDED TWICE. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND START IT, AND IT STARTS AGAIN WITHOUT A PROBLEM, BUT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE NOT HAD THE ISSUE RESOLVED BY A MECHANIC.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,874.
WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREETS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOES NOT BREAK NORMAL AND WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE THE BRAKE PETAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO PUMP THE BREAKS MULTIPLE TIMES TO MAKE IT STOP. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND AFTER RUNNING A DIAGNOSE THEY GUESSED IS THE HCU OR THE MASTER CYLINDER THAT IS GOING BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT WITH NO CERTAINTY. (AGAIN, THEY ARE NOT EVEN SURE BECAUSE OF THE CODE THEY GOT FROM THE DIAGNOSE). THE VEHICLE HAS NO LIGHT ON FOR BREAKS OR ANYTHING TELLING YOU IS SOMETHING WRONG. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT FORD HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IN THE ESCAPES, AND REPLACING ONLY THE MASTER CYLINDER WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM). WITHOUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM FIX THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY FLAW IN THE 2009 ESCAPE & SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO SAVE LIVES AND TO NOT PUTTING LIVES AT RISK. FORD NEEDS A TO DO HE RIGHT THING AND DO A RECALL ON THEIR ABS MODULE.
I WAS ON MY TO WORK ONE MORNING ENTERING THE INTERSTATE ON RAMP AND I LOST POWER STEERING WHICH ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. MAKING IT EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER THE VEHICLE. UPON TAKING IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME MY POWER STEERING TORQUE CONTROL MODULE WAS FAILING. THIS WAS A RECALL ON ESCAPES FROM 2008 / 2011, BUT THEY SAID MY PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL??? UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION MYSELF I'M SEEING WHERE NUMEROUS FORD OWNERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND LIKE MYSELF HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR OUT OF POCKET...NOT CHEAP I MAY ADD. IT SEEMS THAT SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED FOR (ALL) MODELS IN THIS TIME FRAME... WHAT A HORRIBLE THING FOR FORD TO PUT THEIR CONSUMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN JEPORDY DUE TO THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FULL RECALL ON ALL MODELS BETWEEN THIS TIME FRAME. ALSO VEHICLES TO BE FIXED AT FORDS EXPENSE BEFORE SOMEONE LOOSES A LOVED ONE. AND REIMBURSE THOSE OF US WHO HAVE HAD IT FIXED AT OUR EXPENSE....

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED MANLEY MOTORS (1800 N STATE ST, BELVIDERE, IL 61008, (888) 388-4940) AND WAS INFORMED OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING FEES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN 2014 PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *TT CONSUMER STATED DAUGHTER OWNS VEHICLE AND ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN.*JB
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND MADE A LEFT TURN, WHILE STEERING TURNING BACK TO THE RIGHT IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WANTED TO LOCK BUT EVENTUALLY BROKE AND WENT TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE VEHICLE PURCHASED. TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA, THEY TOLD ME AFTER TESTING, I NEEDED A STEERING COLUMN EPAS AT THE TUNE OF $1400. THEY SAID YOU COULD NOT JUST REPLACE THE EPAS PART ON MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND IT WAS NOT ONE OF THE ONES RECALLED EARLIER. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE AND CHECKING WITH ANOTHER DEALER, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE EPAS PART CAN BE REPLACED BUT APPARENTLY FORD WILL NOT LET THEIR SERVICE TECHS JUST REPLACE THAT PART. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, I HAVE PAID A LOT FOR THIS VEHICLE, NEW, AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THAT STEERING IS MORE THAN I RECEIVE A MONTH FROM DISABILITY. THANKFULLY I HAVE NOT BEEN IN A SITUATION OF AN ACCIDENT. WHAT CAN WE AS CONSUMERS DO TO DEMAND THAT FORD TAKE OWNERSHIP AND HELP OUT THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS? I AM LOOSING MORE AND MORE FAITH IN FORD (3 OUT OF MY 4) SERVICE VISITS SHOWED THAT THE SERVICE TECH PUT A CHECK MARK THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS OK?????? ANOTHER PROBLEM, IN FEB. 2018 SERVICE VISIT, THEY SAID MY TREAD WAS IN THE YELLOW. BACK AGAIN FOR SERVICE IN AUG. 2018, SHOWED TREAD IN GREEN??? THIS IS WHY I WENT BACK FOR THIS CHECK UP ON ALL THINGS AT NOT CHARGE AFTER SPEAKING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. IF I HAD NOT TAKEN IT BACK FOR A REVISIT, I PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE STEERING! I WILL SAY MY LAST VISIT WAS THE BEST I HAVE HAD TO DATE, THANKS TO THE SERVICE TECH. STILL I AM NOT SURE I WOULD EVERY PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD!

I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FO D ESCAPE LAST NOVEMBER 21, 2018 AND I WAS TO DRIVE IN WHEN THE LIGHT TURN GREEN AND I WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN SUDDENLY MY BRAKE WAS ON THE FLOOR. SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING/TURNING, THE CAR WOULD DING AND A VERY BRIEF MESSAGE WOULD FLASH ON THE CONSOLE. COULDN'T READ IT FAST ENOUGH BEFORE IT WENT AWAY. TODAY GOT IN AFTER WORK AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE CAME ON AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL YEAR, BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR EVERY VEHICLE. SEARCHING ONLINE FOUND MULTIPLE OTHER PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM IN 2009 ESCAPES (OR OTHER YEARS INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL) THAT WERE NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. WONDERING IF THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX AND NOT SOMETHING THAT IS VERY LIKELY TO GO OUT OTHERWISE.
ON A SNOWY MORNING THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED NORMALLY AND THE SLIPPERY CONDITIONS CAUSED ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TO ACTIVATE. THEY SEEMED TO WORK NORMALLY, BUT AFTER THAT ACTIVATION THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT VERY SOFT AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE THE BRAKES UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE PEDAL TRAVEL. THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL STOP, BUT THE BRAKES WERE UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) AND WAS REPLACED WITH THE ABS MODULE AS A UNIT ($1700). THE NEW UNIT REQUIRED REPROGRAMMING AND BLEEDING AT THE DEALERSHIP ($200). BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY COMPONENT WITHIN A REASONABLE MILEAGE (140,000 VEHICLE MILEAGE), THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE OEM WITH AT LEAST A TSB.
"TAKATA RECALL" AT ONE TIME THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING, THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY 2009 ESCAPE. I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ONE SECOND I HAVE POWER STEERING AND THE NEXT SECOND MY STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY NO POWER WAS GOING TO THE WHEELS WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL.
