MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE XL BECAME VIRTUALY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN A CORNER OR TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL TO PARK MY CAR ON MAY 2,2018. I ALMOST THREWH MY BACK OUT JUST TRYING TO GET HOME AFTER A 15 MINUTE DRIVE. I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE STEERING MODULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS INCLUDED THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN. THIS MECHANIC IS AWARE OF THE 2008-2011 RECALL INVOLVING THE FORD ESCAPE MANUFACTURED IN KANSAS USA. MY ESCAPE WAS MANUFACTURED THERE BUT I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLES BEING RECALLED FOR THE STEERING ISSUE WERE FROM A DIFFERENT PANT NUMBER. MY MECHANIC DISAGREES AND FEELS MY FORD ESCAPE HAS THE SAME EXACT FAULTY ISSUE AND IT IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT , AND ONE YEAR A GO I HAD 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLT AND I HAD THE SAME ISSUES , BUT ON THE 2008 HAS RECALL BUT THE 2009 THERES NO RECALL ,
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY RATE OF SPEED, THE EPS FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE DEALER (JAMES FORD OF WILLIAMSON LLC, 3923 NY-104, WILLIAMSON, NY 14589, (315) 589-2299) INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED TO DETERMINE THE REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
STEERING BECOMES VERY TIGHT HARD TO TURN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER ASSIST INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED, MOVING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (CREST FORD INC., 22675 GIBRALTAR RD, FLAT ROCK, MI 48134) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) A YEAR AND HALF AGO. AT THAT TIME, THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE SOFTWARE WERE UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN HAD NO RECALLS AND PROVIDED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN IDLING, EVEN IF ONLY FOR SECONDS AND SURGES FORWARD RANDOMLY WHILE TRAVELING ON THE ROADWAY. IT HAS STALLED ON ME UP TO 8-10 TIMES IN ONE TRIP FROM SCOTTSDALE TO PHOENIX. IT WILL STALL ROLLING TO A STOP AS WELL AND HAS STALLED ON BUSY ROADWAYS AND IN INTERSECTIONS, PUTTING ME IN GREAT DANGER. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED T HUNDREDS OF OTHER DRIVERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AND SO FAR NO MECHANIC OR EVEN THE FORD DEALERSHIP CAN PIN POINT THE CAUSE. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR CARS WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES AND OTHERS HAVE REPRTED THAT THE CAR STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I AM NOW AFRAID IT WILL ESCALATE.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. DAYS LEADING UP TO THIS WARNING I ONLY HEARD THE COMPUTER BELL DING AND THEN NOTHING NO DISPLAY. ON THE DAY DRIVING TO WORK ON HWY. THE COMPUTER DISPLAY CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. HAD TO MAUNALLY TURN VERY HARD .COULD NOT MAKE ANY QUICK TURNS.IF I HAD TO GET OUT OF THE WAY.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT RESULTING IN NO POWER STEERING.
MY CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE APRIL 2018. AFTER THE CAR STALLS, I AM ABLE TO RESTART IT AND IT RUNS AGAIN. I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED THIS WILL HAPPEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND PUT MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS AT RISK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS WERE UNKNOWN. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,000.
POWER STEERING GAVE UP.

THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
ELECTRIC STEERING FAILED INSTANTLY WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING HUGE INCREASE IN STEERING EFFORT,SO MUCH SO THAT A SMALL PERSON CANNOT CONTROL THE CAR.A HUGE SAFETY RISK. THE CAR WAS MOVING ALONG THE ROAD AT THE TIME OF FAILURE.
LOST STEERING. UNABLE TO STEER.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED BY STORMS FORD, EAST HAMPTON, NY, 10/24/17. MILEAGE: 34438. STEERING FAILED AGAIN, 3/30/18. MILEAGE: 35400. IS THERE ANY RECALL OR OTHER RECOURSE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IN OUR 2009 FORD ESCAPE STOPPED WORKING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE IT. THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON ON THE WAY TO WORK AND THEN THE STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE WORK AT THE END OF THE DAY. IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL FOR 2009 FORD ESCAPES AND NEEDS TO BE ADDED.

THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO THE HOLMES TUTTLE FORD LINCOLN TUCSON (888-298-7826, 660 W AUTO MALL DR., TUCSON, AR 85705) WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR FURTHER REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000.
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHEN DRIVING. AND VIBERATES WHEN IDLING. ELECTRIC STEERING
POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THIS MODEL. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR VEHICLES FROM THE PLANT IN KC BUT NO OTHER PLANTS. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS WENT OUT. MY DAUGHTER WAS STRANDED IN FERGUSON MO FOR OVER TWO HOURS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. LES STUMPF FORD IN APPLETON, WISCONSIN WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO RESET THE PCM. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR OR STEERING COLUMN AS OUTLINED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) BECAUSE THERE WERE NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES DISPLAYED WHEN TESTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 138,000.
FORD ESCAPE 140S05 TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT ON MY CAR. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER SHIP THEY SAID THEY HAD FIXED THE RECALL IN 2015 AND WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT AGAIN. THIS DOES NOT HELP WITH THE SAFETY ANY PERSON DRIVING WITH ME OR IN ANOTHER VEHICLE IF I LOOSE ALL MY CAPACITY TO STEER. I BELIEVE THAT IF A RECALL IS DONE ON A CAR UNTIL THE CAR IS RUNNING ANY MORE. I AM GOING TO CONTACT FOR DEALERSHIP AS WELL. SAFETY FIRST!!!!

BRIGHTON FORD (8240 GRAND RIVER AVE, BRIGHTON, MI) WAS CONTACTED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY OPEN RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,000.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AND I WANT TO GO TO THE REST AREA AND TURN LEFT AND THE WHEEL GOT HARD TO TURN THE CORNER OF THE STREET, AFTER THAT NEVER LOOSENED TO DRIVE THE CAR
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL GETS STUCK AS IF I'M OUT OF POWER STEERING FLUID, WHICH IT'S NOT. ALSO, THE WHEELS ARE SHAKY AND FEEL LIKE THEIR ABOUT TO COME OFF. SOMEONE HIT MY VEHICLE AND IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT. NOW I'M PAYING FOR A RENTAL UNTIL GETS FIXED AND I'M PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS INSTEAD OF THE COMPANY.
BRAKE PEDAL IS SPONGY OR GOES TO THE FLOOR, STARTED OFF JUST HERE AND THERE BUT NOW IS DOING IT ALMOST DAILY. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF ESCAPE OWNERS. ARE THEY GOING TO WAIT TILL SOMEONE DIES ( I HOPE IT'S NOT ME) BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. VERY SCARY TO DRIVE AND VERY EXPENSIVE IF YOU HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. I KNOW IT COULD BE NOTHING ELSE, I HAVE REPLACED EVERY OTHER PART ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. I REPLACED ROTORS, DRUMS, PADS, WHEEL CYLINDERS, CALIPERS, AND MASTER CYLINDER. COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT UNTIL I WENT ONLINE AND SAW ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS. FORD, PLEASE RECALL THE ABS MODULE ON THIS VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE DIES BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPIDITY!! BY THE WAY, MY SON HAD AN ACCIDENT IN THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT WAS MINOR. BUT IF IT WOULD OF BEEN WORSE I WOULD BE SUING YOUR [XXX] OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE WHEN STOPPED,WITH BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. A FEW HUNDRED MILES LATER LOST POWER STEERING.ALSO TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARD, ALSO NOTICEABLE CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE.
2 YEARS AGO , WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE IN THE CITY AND HIGHWAY, I HAD EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY WITH THE STEERING FREEZING WHILE DRIVING. I HAD TO RESTART THE CAR TO FREE THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERS WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE CAR WAS EVALUATED, THEY FELT THAT THE CAR WAS OK AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE CAR. AT THIS TIME, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND AT TIMES THE STEERING IS DIFFICULT BECAUSE OF THE VIBRATIONS AND FREEZING. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON FREES THE WHEEL BUT THE VIBRATIONS CONTINUES WITH A SLIGHT TOUCH OF THE WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD COST 1,200.00 TO REPAIR, HOWEVER; I COULD STILL DRIVE THE CAR IF I COULD STAND THE NOISE.
DASH WARNING "POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAIL" CAME ON - STEERING LOCKED UP, WILL NOT TURN EITHER DIRECTION. DRIVING ON STREET AND TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY. CAR WOULDN'T TURN AND DROVE INTO YARD. FORTUNATELY NO OTHER CARS ON THAT SIDE OF DRIVEWAY. PROBABLY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING?
I KNOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON POWER STEERING AND MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. MY POWER STEERING ISN'T WORKING. IT SHOWED A FAULT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN IT WENT OUT.
MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2009 ESCAPE WHEN THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY. SHE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE SHE WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, THIS HAS BEEN A SEVERE PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL YET ONLY SOME WERE RECALLED?????

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY AND TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.

BILL CURRIE FORD (5815 N DALE MABRY HWY, TAMPA, FL) WAS CALLED, BUT DID NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY HAD NO INVOLVEMENT IN RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSFERRED TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.

THE CONTACT REDUCED THE SPEED AND TOOK THE NEXT EXIT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING ABILITY SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
TAKATA RECALL, WITH DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE, I REALIZED WHENEVER I AM PROCEEDING TO PRESS ON THE GAS AT A STOP SIGN OR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ACCELERATION TAKES TIME TO PICK UP SPEED, AND WHEN TRYING TO PICK UP THE MINIMUM SPEED LOCALLY IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE TO PRESS HARD FOR THE TRUCK TO ACCELERATE MORE. AND WHEN I'M MERGING ON THE HIGHWAY IT IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE WHEN PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS IT STALLS, ALOT LET ALONE WHEN I HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES, IT TAKES LONG TO PICK UP SPEED AGAIN. ALSO WHEN DRIVING UP A STEEP HILL, THE TRUCK APPEARS THAT IT CAN'T ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH,THE ACCELERATION IS HORRIBLE, AND I AM STARTING TO BECOME VERY AFRAID DRIVING MY OWN VERY, NOT KNOWING WETHER SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME, WHEN DRIVING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROD BAKER FORD (16101 S LINCOLN HWY, PLAINFIELD, IL 60586, (815) 436-5681) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 14149117. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
THE STEERING KICKS OUT OF POWER TO MANUAL. THIS VEHICLE WAS MADE IN KANSAS CITY AND OTHER VEHICLES FROM THAT SAME PLANT WERE RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, BUT NOT THIS VIN. WHAT'S UP WITH FORD STANDING BEHIND THERE PRODUCTS. THIS ISSUE COULD KILL PEOPLE BECAUSE OF LACK OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PUT FORD ON NOTICE....A LAWSUIT WILL BE HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE.
I BOUGHT A USED 2009 FORD ESCAPE IN SEPTEMBER, ABOUT A MONTH AGO, MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING WHEN TURNING AND THEN IT WENT A AWAY FOR A FEW WEEKS. NOW, IT IS TERRIBLE AND I TOOK IT INTO A REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY HANDED ME PAPERWORK FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING A SAFETY RECALL #14S05. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH AND CALLING FORD CORPORATE AND A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, FORD WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS RECALL AND TELLS ME THAT MY CAR DOES NOT QUALIFY. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON MY OWN AND IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH FORD. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS YOUR STEERING CAPABILITY AND IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROADS. FORD IS AT FAULT AND NEEDS TO CLEAN THIS UP.

I HAVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE V6. THERE IS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT. RECENTLY MY STEERING WHEEL HAD STARTED SHAKING REALLY BAD AT TIMES AND NOW MY POWER STEERING HAS TOTALLY WENT OUT. THE INFORMATION PART ON MY VEHICLE TELLS ME THAT THERE IS A POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAULT. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS A RECALL BECAUSE THIS WAS MADE IN THE KANSAS FACTORY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY SAY THAT SOMEONE TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO SOUTH CAROLINA TO GET IT CHECKED AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THEY SAY THEY'VE DONE THEIR PART AND NOW I AND RESPONSIBLE. *** THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX THE POWER STEERING. THE ONLY THING THEY'VE DONE WAS PUT IT ON A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND IT CAME BACK GOOD BUT THAT WAS YEARS AGO. JUST BECAUSE THEY CHECKED IT YEARS AGO DOES NOT MEAN THEY PERFORMED ANYTHING TO FIX THE RECALL. THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING ON MY VEHICLE TO FIX THE RECALL AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. THIS IS A RECALL AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING IT. HOW CAN I GET THEM TO FIX THIS?............... I BELIEVE THERE'S ALSO A RECALL OR SOMETHING ON THE PURGE VALVE. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND IT SAYS THERE'S A MAJOR LEAK AND I BELIEVE IT'S EITHER BECAUSE THE GAS TANK BECAUSE THERE'S NO GAS CAP FOR MY VEHICLE OR IT'S EITHER THE PURGE VALVE. EITHER WAY THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE COMPANY AS WELL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE, THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID FOR AT HIS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
