STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING AND VIBRATING AT STOP LIGHTS. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS THEN A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT SAID "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". AFTER REACHING MY DESTINATION I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. UPON RESTARTING I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME THEN TO THE DELERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THEY RETRIEVED A CODE DTC B2278 AND SAID EITHER THE TORQUE SENSOR OR THE STEERING GEAR IS BAD AND THEY WOULD NEED TO TEAR DOWN THE STEERING COLUMN TO FIND OUT. THE ESTIMATE FOR THIS WAS $1200 TO $1800 DOLLARS. NOT HAVING THE RESOURCES TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED AT THE TIME THEY SENT ME ON MY WAY. HUMOROUSLY THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN AFTER THEY RETRIVED THE FAULT CODE. THAT LASTED ABOUT TWO DAYS AND NO MORE POWER STEERING. THIS VEHICLE IS LIKE DRIVING IN THE FIFTIES AGAIN. I AM A LARGE GUY AND REALLY HAVE TO STRAIN TO MAKE A TIGHT CURVE. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WERE MY WIFE DRIVING. I UNDERSTAND AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR FORD AND SOME VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR IT, UNFORTUNATELY NOT MINE. I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE PROBLEM IS REAL AND THE DANGER IS IMMINENT. WOULD YOU PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION OF LOSING POWER STEERING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED?

THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEN DRIVEN TO MEL HAMBELTON FORD (11771 W KELLOGG AVE, WICHITA, KS 67209) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. PREVIOUSLY, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO WRITE THEM A LETTER FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AS A RESULT THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED BEFORE OR AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TRI STAR FORD DEALERSHIP (930 US-22, BLAIRSVILLE, PA 15717) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 195,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
RECALL #14S05 INITIATED IN 2014 WAS REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL. PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR RECURRED ON JAN. 2018. I HAD THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE RECALL REISSUED SO I MAY BE REIMBURSED BY FORD . WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED I WAS DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. I MADE IT HOME OK BUT I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT JUST BEFORE ARRIVING TO MY HOUSE DUE TO THE STEERING FAILURE. PLEASE SEE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND MY REPAIR DOCUMENTS IN JAN. 2018. I PUCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A PRIVATE PARTY IN AUGUST 2015 I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALL AT THAT TIME OR AT THE TIME OF THE FAILED REPAIR FROM 2014.

IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND MADE A KNOCKING NOISE. BILL BROWN FORD IN LIVONIA, MICHIGAN WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. POWER STEERING WENT OUT UNEXPECTEDLY, HAVE HAD 14S05 RECALL AND EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUE MANY HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE MODEL. STEERING COLUMN IS DEFECTIVE. HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ARE DEALING WITH THIS AS WELL IN 2009 FORD ESCAPE. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT FAILED TO PREVENT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.

I HAD TO HAVE THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST REPLACED IN MY FORD ESCAPE DUE TO THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION WHEN IT WENT OUT. A FEW MONTHS LATER I LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR "CERTAIN" MAKE AND MODEL ESCAPES. OBVIOUSLY, MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE, THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO ASSIST AND IT WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET COST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

DURING A COLD SNAP IN JANUARY, I CLICKED MY BACK WINDSHIELD LIFTGATE TO RETRIEVE GROCERY BAGS, AND THE HINGE ON THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW SNAPPED IN HALF AND SENT THE WINDSHIELD FLYING ON IT'S HYDRAULIC INTO MY LEFT SHOULDER. MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT OF TRADER JOE'S IN KALAMAZOO, I WAS AT THE REAR OF THE CAR, OPENING THE LIFTGATE WITH MY KEY FOB. I WAS IMPACTED IN MY SHOULDER, SUSTAINED AN INJURY I AM STILL DEALING WITH, IF MY CHILD HAD BEEN ON MY LEFT, INSTEAD OF MY RIGHT, IT WOULD HAVE IMPACTED HIS HEAD. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT AND THE AUTO REPAIR PLACE I HAD IT FIXED OTTO KIHM'S, SAID THAT THEY SEE THIS ISSUE ALL THE TIME WITH THE ESCAPE.

THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (SHEEHY FORD LINCOLN OF GAITHERSBURG, 901 N FREDERICK AVE, GAITHERSBURG, MD 20879) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FAMILY OF PA (170 YORK RD, CARLISLE, PA 17013) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE RECALL WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
POWER STEERING ON CAR WILL SHUT OFF AT RANDOM, AN AUDIBLE CLICK WILL BE HEARD WHEN POWER STEERING SHUTS ON OR OFF, WILL TURN ON AND OFF WHEN GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD OR TURNING,HAVING CAUSED ME TO ALMOST CRASH DOZENS OF TIMES. THIS WILL ALSO HAPPEN WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY BE AT A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN, OR EVEN IN DRIVEWAY WHEN VEHICLE STILL HAS YET TO BE DRIVEN. ALL DASH BOARD LIGHTS WILL ALSO TURN ON AND OFF, THIS SOMETIMES COINCIDES WITH THE SAME TIMING OF THE POWER STEERING GOING ON AND OFF BUT NOT ALWAYS. THE RED BATTERY SYMBOL WILL ALSO TURN ON IN DASHBOARD. EXTERIOR LIGHTS WILL HAVE PULSING GOING ON WITH BRIGHT AND DIMMING. POWER WINDOWS AND LOCKS STILL WORK PROPERLY DURING ALL OF THIS. CENTER CONSOLE (RADIO HEAT CLOCK) WILL TURN ON AND OFF AT RANDOM ALSO NOT NECESSARILY ALL TOGETHER. BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHECKED WITH MULTI METER AND WORKING PROPERLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL WEEKS NOW. SOMETIMES IT WONT HAPPEN AT ALL OTHER TIMES IT IS CONSTANT ON THE DRIVES. MY RIDES ARE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 10-45 MINUTES.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH AND APPROACHED AN OFF RAMP ON MY RIGHT . AS I WAS NEGOTIATING THE THE WINDING TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO ALMOST LOCK AND A MESSAGE APPEARED SAYING "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". IT NEVER REVERTED BACK AND I LIMPED HOME WITH SEVERE ISSUES MAKING TURNS. I HAD A RECALL NOTICE IN 2014 THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM. IT WAS A 14SO5 RECALL AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE PSCM AND IC.
THIS COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT FOR MY 2009 ESCAPE. THIS ALERT APPEARED THE MORNING OF 01/06/2018. ALTHOUGH THE DISPLAY READ POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT, THE CAR HANDLED NORMALLY FOR MY DRIVE HOME. AFTER I HAD PARKED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF, THEN RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS COMPLETELY GONE. THE ROY O'BRIEN FORD DEALER, HERE IN SAINT CLAIR SHORES, MI(WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM) TOLD ME THAT SINCE I HAD RESPONDED TO AND COMPLETED SOME SORT OF REPROGRAMMING OF THE STEERING, AS STATED IN A RECALL, THAT MY CASE WAS CLOSED AND NO RECOURSE TO REPAIR THE CURRENT ISSUE WAS OFFERED. I HAVE OWNED FORDS MY ENTIRE LIFE AND AM COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE LACK EFFORT TO AT LEAST OFFER A FREE DIAGNOSIS TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE.

WHILE DRIVING 4 MPH IN REVERSE, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO MANEUVER IN POSITION WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (PHIL LONG FORD, 1212 MOTOR CITY DR #A, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905) AND WAS ADVISED TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
I RECEIVED A RECALL A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO FOR THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE (RECALL 14S05) ALTHOUGH I ONLY EXPERIENCED SMALL GLITCHES IN THE POWER STEERING I DECIDED TO BE PROACTIVE AND TAKE MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE RECALL ADDRESSED. WELL YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT AND I HAD TO USE EVERY MUSCLE IN MY ARMS AND BACK TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND ALMOST CRASHED INTO A CAR BECAUSE I COULDN'T TURN MY CAR. I CALLED FORD TO TELL THEM THAT THE RECALL THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED WAS NOT WORKING AND THEY TOLD ME THEY NEVER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING, THEY ONLY REPROGRAMMED THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING MODULE. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD COVER THE ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING SINCE IT CLEARLY WASN'T FIXED THE FIRST TIME AND THEY SAID NO BECAUSE THEY 'CLOSED' THE CLAIM WHEN THEY REPROGRAMMED IT AND THAT I WAS ON MY OWN AND EXPECTED TO PAY $1800 OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I FEEL COMPLETELY CHEATED AND DISAPPOINTED THAT THE FACT THAT I TRIED BEING PROACTIVE BIT ME IN THE BUTT COMPLETELY. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I
FORD RECALLED SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND FORD ESCAPES IN 2014 FOR POWER ASSIST STEERING FAILURE. MY YEAR MODEL FALLS WITHIN THE YEAR RANGE OF THE RECALL. THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. FORD SAYS MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND IS CHARGING ME $1558 TO REPAIR. WHAT THEY ARE REPAIRING IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL IS FOR. WHEN STEERING FAILED LUCKILY MY DAUGHTER, WHO DRIVES THE CAR, WAS IN A PARKING LOT BOTH TIMES.
LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING.

THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO A PARKING LOT TO ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE IGNITION, BUT THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ASHEVILLE FORD LINCOLN (611 BREVARD RD, ASHEVILLE, NC 28806) WHERE THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,500.
KEY IGNITION SWITCH IS DIFFICULT TO WORK. AFTER TURNING TO THE START POSITION YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE KEY IN FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THIS STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THE PROBLEM HAS GOT WORST TO THE POINT THAT IT CAN TAKE UP TO 10 TRIES AND 3 OR 4 MINUTES TO GET IT STARTED .YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUNCH THE KEY IN HARD (ESPECIALLY US WITH ARTHRITIS) THEN TURN TO GET STARTED. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TRY TO START THE CAR AND EXTREMELY STRESSFUL WHEN AWAY FROM HOME. THIS IS A COMMON FLAW OF THIS CAR AND MUST BE FIXED BY FORD.
WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I NOTICED IT WAS HARD TO START IT WOULD TAKE ME A FEW TRYS, THEN IT WOULD START. I CALLED WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND HE SAID THAT IT IS JUST HARD TO START MY TYPE OF VEHICLE. AFTER TIME IT WILL NOT START AT ALL UNLESS I USE MY AUTOMATIC STARTER. TO FIX ON MY OWN WILL COST FOR PART $150 WHICH NOTHING IS COVERED. MY VEHICLE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM.

VERY SCARY MOMENT. TURNING LEFT WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC AND LOST ALL POWER STIRRING. WAS NEARLY HIT. THIS ESCAPE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEAR IN DECEMBER OF 2014 UNDER A RECALL. THE PSCM AND THE ICM WERE UPDATED AS PER THE FORD 14S05C RECALL NUMBER. I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT OR WORSE, THE FAMILY IN THE CAR THAT NEARLY MISSED ME. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE ABOUT THE OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THIS IS HAPPENING TO. IT IS WRONG AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY COMPONENT ON THESE VEHICLES. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND THUS FAR REFUSING TO MAKE IT RIGHT. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING QUOTES FOR REPAIRS.
STEERING WHEEL FREEZES RANDOMLY FOR 1-2 SECONDS WHEN TURNING LEFT. I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE (BOUGHT USED) FOR ONE YEAR.

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED BEFORE OR AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WOLF MOTOR COMPANY (31148 PUMPKIN HILL RD, LE SUEUR, MD) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,995.
I NOTICED AN ISSUE WITH MY POWER STEERING ABOUT A MONTH AGO. WHEEL SHAKES WHILE DRIVING AS WELL AS WHEN STOPPED... BUT NOT CONSISTENTLY. I TOOKMY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE WASN'T SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I FELT IT WAS SOMETHING IN THE POWER STEERING JUST BY THE WAY IT WAS ACTING. TWO DAYS AGO, WHEN I STARTED UP MY CAR, THE DASH INDICATED A WARNING WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE SHAKING, ON AND OFF, HAS BECOME MORE APPARENT. I WENT ON LINE TO SEE WHAT IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS EXPERIENCE AND HERE I AM... LOTS OF COMPLAINTS, AND NO RESULTS. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. THIS IS MY SECOND ESCAPE AND WILL DEFINITELY BE MY LAST AND PROBABLY MY LAST FORD PRODUCT. VEHICLE HAS ROUGHLY 195,000 MILES.
MY VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO SAFETY RECALL 14S05. I AM THE 2ND OWNER, AND ACCORDING TO FORD THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED IN 2014(REPROGRAMMING THE PSCM. HOWEVER, THE ACTUAL TORQUES SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT REPLACED. THIS MORNING IT WENT OUT ON ME ON MY WAY TO WORK WHILE EXITING I96 WB IN WIXOM, MI. WE HAD 7 INCHES OF SNOW FALL LAST NIGHT, SO ROAD CONDITIONS WERE SNOWY AND ICY. WHEN THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT, THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD MANUAL STEERING, WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT TO USE. AS A RESULT, I TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, NEARLY STRIKING ANOTHER MOTORIST. I THEN CORRECTED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK IN THE OTHER DIRECTION, AND RAN OFF THE LEFT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD INTO A SNOW DRIFT. I WAS NOT INJURED, AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE SUSTAINED BY MY VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE SNOW DRIFT UNDER IT'S OWN POWER, AND CONTINUED ON TO WORK. I AM VERY LUCKY TO BE WRITING THIS COMPLAINT TODAY, I VERY NEARLY COULD HAVE SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, OR INJURED OR KILLED ANOTHER MOTORIST. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET TO TRY TO DIAGNOSE, ONLY TO FIND THAT THIS IS A PROMINENT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND THAT THE SAFETY RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. BUT AS I SOON LEARNED, LIKE MANY, MANY OTHERS, AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED, FORD WILL NO LONGER DO ANY OTHER REMEDIES FOR THIS PROBLEM. I FIND THIS TO BE ALARMING, AND UNACCEPTABLE. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THE CONDITION STILL EXISTS, AND I AM TRYING TO GET ESTIMATES ON THE REPAIRS. I WOULD LIKE THIS ISSUE TO BE INVESTIGATED THOROUGHLY, AND I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS MORE TO THIS PROBLEM THAN SIMPLY REPROGRAMMING THE PSCM. I BELIEVE THAT THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR AND/OR STEERING COLUMN IS MORE LIKELY THE PROBLEM, AND THAT FORD SHOULD FIX OR REPLACE AS NECESSARY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) IN 2014, BUT THE REMEDY FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. POWER STEERING ASSIST ISSUE-POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY STOPPED CAUSING MAJOR ISSUES WITH ABILITY TO STEER VEHICLE AND FUNCTION SAFELY IN TRAFFIC.
I HAVE 80,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. MY CHECK ENGINE CAME ON. I HAVE HESITATION WHEN GIVING IT GAS. I HAVE A VIBRATION WHEN CAR IS RUNNING AND IN DRIVE I TOOK TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY CHECK FOR THE ISSUED ANS IT CAME UP WITH A CODES, P0012, P0022, P0341, P0346 RELATED TO 11-12-5. THE DEALER STATED THEY WOULD NEED TO TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE TO INSPECT, NOT REPAIR, BUT INSPECT. ESTIMATED COST WOULD BE $1500. MY CAR ONLY HAVE 80000, SHOULD THIS BE UNDER A WARRANTY.FORD NEED TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIR MY CAR. I'M CONFUSED WHY WOULD MY CAR HAVE THIS ISSUE WHEN IT ONLY HAVE 80000 MILES AND NOT 10 YEARS OLD.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
RECALL14V28400 MY CALL WAS ASSEMBLED IN KC AND BASED ON EDMONDS.COM I SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED THIS RECALL TO CORRECT THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. I'M HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND GARVIS FORD IN AYER MASS SAID THAT IT WAS VECHICLA AND BASED ON VIN ITS NOPT PART OF THE RECALL, BUT THE PROBLEM IS THERE AND I REALLY DON'T BELIEVE THEM. THJHIS PROBLEM WAS PRESENT YEARS AGO AND NOW THE POWER STEERRING IS NO MORE.

SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST EVEN AFTER THE RECALL REPROGRAMMING. MY VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN IN FOR FOR RECALL NUMBER 14S05 IN JULY. 2014. TROUBLE CODES WERE NOT FOUND AT THAT TIME SO THE DEALER SUPPOSEDLY DID A REPROGRAMMING WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST. OUR VEHICLE HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING ON 11/7/17 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY FOUND TROUBLE CODE B1342 WHICH IF FOUND DURING THE 2014 RECALL APPOINTMENT, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE STEERING COLUMN BEING REPLACED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL DUE TO THE PREVIOUS REPROGRAMMING, EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE IN RESOLVING THE CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. CLEARLY, MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT POWER STEERING LOSS AND FAILURE CODE THAT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE REPROGRAMMING DID NOT HAVE THE INTENDED RESULT WHATSOEVER - I STILL EXPERIENCED THE POWER STEERING LOSS. I HAVE TRIED TO ESCALATE THIS ISSUE WITHIN FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT THEY ARE DENYING ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO RESOLVE THIS KNOWN DEFECT UNDER THE RECALL WARRANTY DUE TO THE PREVIOUS REPROGRAMMING. I'M HOPING NHTSA CAN HELP RESOLVE THIS CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE - I'M SURE WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES AFFECTED! POWER STEERING FAILURE, PREVIOUSLY RECALLED AND "REPROGRAMMED" INSTEAD OF REPLACED
LOSS OF POWER STERRING. STEERING BECOMES VERY TIGHT HARD TO TURN.
IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO STOP OPERATING INTERMITTENTLY. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP 2 TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. FINALLY ON OCT 24 THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO OPERATE COMPLETELY. IT IS BEING REPAIRED AT A COST OF OVER 1000. SINCE ONLY SOME OF THE 2009 ESCAPES WERE RECALLED IN 2014, AND MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED, I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM AND RECALL MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS MOVING SAFETY HAZARD. THERE IS A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE STEERING WHICH CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING SAT HIGHWAY SPEEDS APPROX 70MPH, AND RESULTED IN CROSSING LANE INTO OPPOSING TRAFFIC, NEARLY CAUSING HEAD-ON COLLISION. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE. INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THIS HAS BEEN A RECALL ISSUE IN THE PAST. FORD WILL NOT RESOLVE ISSUE THROUGH RECALL, AND REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE.
POWER STEERING WOULD NOT ENGAGE WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED. WORKED FINE AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR FOR 1 DAY. NEXT DAY, POWER STEERING DISENGAGES AFTER ABOUT 10 SEC EVERY TIME AND WILL NOT COME BACK WITH RESTARTING THE CAR. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH THAT FORD CONTINUES TO IGNORE.
