TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER INTERSTATE FORD OF MIAMISBURG, OH. WERE BOTH NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
MY CAR STALLED OUT ON ME TWICE ON ON BUSY ROADS. THE THROTTLE BODY HAD TO GET REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT A RED LIGHT BOTH TIMES.
IMMEDIATE STEERING FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WITH NO NOTICE OR WARNING. STEERING WAS WORKING FINE IN THE MORNING BUT UPON STARTING THE CAR IN THE AFTERNOON, THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT IT DOES NOT APPEAR MY CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED AS THIS IS A KNOWN AND WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE.
WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE THE BREAK PEDAL SUDDENLY GOES TO FLOOR PANEL AND NEEDS TO BE PUMPED TO GET BREAKS WORKING AGAIN>
CAR SERVICED FOR RECALL 14S05 THIS AUGUST FOR POWER STEERING FAULT. SAME ISSUE: LOST POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE AND DROP BACK TO MANUAL MODE HAPPEN OCT. 16TH. FORD REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE UNDER THE SAME RECALL.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL CAR
THE POWER STEERING FAILS AND YOU ARE FORCED TO TURN WITHOUT IT. BUT IT IS NOT ONLY WITHOUT IT, IT FEELS AS IF THE STEERING IF FIGHTING AGAINST YOU. THEN AT RANDOM TIMES THE POWER STEERING WILL START TO WORK AGAIN. IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW THE CAR WILL REACT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN SEIZED AND REQUIRED EXCESSIVE EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. MAC HAIK FORD (10333 KATY FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77024) DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
LOSS OF POWERING STEERING IN VEHICLE GOING 55 MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. NO ENGINE LIGHTS OR SAFETY SIGNALS APPEARED ON THE DASH WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHEN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURED AND I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. AT THIS POINT THEY SAID THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE FIXED EVERYTHING REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL POWERING STEERING ISSUE, BUT NOW THAT THE RECALL HAS BEEN CLOSED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AND I AM NOW RESPONSIBLE TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING COLUMN REPLACED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN THE RECALL INITIALLY, IT TOOK THEM 2 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE CHECK LIST CHECKING FOR DTCS AND TO REPROGRAM THE PSCM AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE CUSTOMER INFORMATION SHEET POSTED WITH THE SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN WAS NEVER GIVE TO ME EVEN THOUGH ALL DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGEMENT SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED A COPY TO THOSE WHO ONLY HAD REPROGRAMMING COMPLETED ON THEIR VEHICLE.
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST EVEN AFTER THE RECALL REPROGRAMMING. WE PREVIOUSLY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL NUMBER 14S05 IN AUG. 2014. TROUBLE CODES WERE NOT FOUND AT THAT TIME SO THE DEALER ONLY DID A REPROGRAMMING WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST AND ALERT THE DRIVER WITH A WARNING LIGHT AND CHIME IF IT DID OCCUR. OUR VEHICLE HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING ON 9/24/17 BUT THERE WERE NO DRIVER ALERTS. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY FOUND TROUBLE CODE B1342 WHICH IF FOUND DURING OUR 2014 RECALL APPOINTMENT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE STEERING COLUMN BEING REPLACED. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL DUE TO THE PREVIOUS REPROGRAMMING, EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE IN RESOLVING THE CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE OR ALERTING THE DRIVER. HAD WE NEVER TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE REPROGRAMMING, WE WOULD STILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE WARRANTY REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. CLEARLY, OUR VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT POWER STEERING LOSS AND FAILURE CODE THAT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE REPROGRAMMING DID NOT HAVE THE INTENDED RESULT WHATSOEVER - WE STILL EXPERIENCED THE POWER STEERING LOSS, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT/MESSAGE AND THERE WAS NO CHIME TO ALERT THE DRIVER OF THE LOSS. I HAVE TRIED TO ESCALATE THIS ISSUE WITHIN FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT THEY ARE DENYING ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO RESOLVE THIS KNOWN DEFECT UNDER THE RECALL WARRANTY DUE TO THE PREVIOUS REPROGRAMMING. I'M HOPING NHTSA CAN HELP RESOLVE THIS CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE - I'M SURE WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES AFFECTED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF STEERING THAT REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. PINE BELT FORD (120 MS-589, PURVIS, MS) DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) A YEAR PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000. *LN CONSUMER STATED FIRST REPAIRS ON RECALL OCT.2016 @ ABOUT 138,000 MILES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING ABILITY SEIZED WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUBURBAN FORD IN STERLING HEIGHTS, MICHIGAN WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL VALVE REMAINED OPENED AND EVAPORATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT OBSERVED A LEAK FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE FROM THE UPPER FUEL TANK WHERE THERE WAS A FRACTURE. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 192,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST ABILITY WAS LOST. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AKINS FORD (220 W MAY ST, WINDER, GA 30680 (800) 282-7872) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY AND POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OR WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS INTERMITTENT OVER A PERIOD OF A MONTH. ARROW FORD SERVICE IN ABILENE, TEXAS WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
14S05-ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE DATED AUGUST 2017 REGARDING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE. I CALLED THE CAPITOL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS SHOCK TO KNOW THAT THE NEXT APPOINTMENT AVAILABLE IS JULY 2018. I CALLED TWICE TO CONFIRM. I KNOW THE RECALL IS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT WAITING THAT LONG IS NOT SAFE. PLEASE HELP ME.
POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. I HAD PARKED THE CAR IN A PARKING LOT AND CAME BACK 30 MINUTES LATER AND THE STEERING WOULD NOT WORK WHEN I CRANKED THE CAR.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE HAD THE POWER STEERING REPROGRAMMED WHICH TEMPORARILY FIXED PROBLEM, STEERING IS STARTING TO FAIL AGAIN 2.5 MONTHS LATER. FORD CLAIMING MY VEHICLE WAS COVERED BY 14S05 ONLY FOR REPROGRAMMING AND NOT REPLACING POWER STEERING COLUMN OR TORQUE SENSOR
WITHOUT WARNING I AM SUDDENLY UNABLE TO STEER MY VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND EVENTUALLY AFTER TALKING TO FAMILY, MADE IT HOME BUT TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TOOK SIGNIFICANT EFFORT. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE JUST A YEAR AGO AND HAVE ALREADY PUT 1800 IN IT AND THIS WILL BE S COSTLY REPAIR.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NORTHSIDE FORD LINCOLN DEALER (LOCATED AT 1312 NORTH KELLER DR, EFFINGHAM, IL 62401, PHONE NUMBER: (217) 342-3929) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED AT NORTHSIDE FORD LINCOLN DEALER FOR THE SAME FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

THE VEHICLE ALSO FAILED TO MAKE RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS AND THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND RESUMED DRIVING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD WHILE IN PARK. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. THE CONTACT CALLED CORTESE FORD (2500 W HENRIETTA RD, ROCHESTER, NY 14623, PHONE NUMBER: (800) 952-7892) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE LOCAL DEALER (AL PIEMONTE FORD LOCATED IN MILROSE PARK, ILLINOIS) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,200.
MY ELECTRONIC POWER SYSTEM IS FAILING. SOMETIMES IT WORKS AND SOMETIMES IT STOPS WORKING. IT BECOMES A DIFFICULT MANUAL STEERING WHEN THIS OCCURS. SO FAR THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN I START THE VEHICLE AND BEGIN TO TURN THE WHEEL AND CONTINUES THIS WAY WHILE DRIVING. IT CONTINUES NOT WORKING UNTIL I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND LATER RETURN TO THE CAR AND START IT AGAIN. THIS OCCURRED ON CITY STREETS AND IN PARKING LOTS.
INTERMITTENT LOSS OF ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SIMILAR TO THOSE REPORTS LISTED IN THOSE VEHICLES COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. ALL FAILURES HAPPEN WHILE PARKED AND IN MOTION. I BELIEVE THAT FORD NEEDS TO DIG A BIT DEEPER AND ISSUE AN AMENDMENT TO THIS RECALL TO FIX THESE VEHICLES BEFORE THE LIVES OF OTHERS ARE ENDANGERED AND I DO NOT WANT TO RISK THE LIVES OF HIM, MYSELF OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD DUE TO THE INTERMITTENT ACTS OF THE STEERING FAILURES WITHIN MY VEHICLE.
WAS ACCELERATING AFTER COASTING TO SLOW DOWN FOR A TURN ON CITY STREETS. ENGINE STALLED OUT AND SERVICE, OIL, AND BATTERY LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED ON THE PANEL. VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND HAD TO COAST TO A STOP. PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED WITH NO ISSUE. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST 18 MONTHS, ALL IN SIMLIAR SCENARIOS WHERE ACCELERATING AFTER COASTING.
REAR WINDOW HINGES CORRODED. WINDOW IS IN DANGER OF FALLING OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME DRIVING. THE FAILURE RECURRED A FEW TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (CODE B12342) FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,225.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A DISCONNECT BETWEEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE RESPONDING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CROWN MOTORS (LOCATED AT 555 CYPRESS AVENUE, REDDING, CA 96001, TEL: (530)953-2687) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
VEHICLE WOULD STALL OUT, ALL POWER LOSS DURING DRIVING. P2111 THROTTLE ISSUE. HAPPENED 3 TIMES. DURING ACCELERATION/DECELERATION (ESPECIALLY ON SLOPES) VEHICLE WOULD JUST LOSE ALL POWER. HAD TO STOP AND SHUT OFF IGNITION BEFORE IT WOULD WORK AGAIN.
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE WILL OCCASIONALLY LURCH/SURGE FORWARD OR STALL OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD ADDRESSED WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY A FEW YEARS AGO BUT I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD SHOULD CONTACT ALL OWNERS!
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN JULY OF 2017, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING AND LOST SPEED. WE WERE BARELY ABLE TO GET OFF ON THE SHOULDER AND CUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN WE STARTED UP THE CAR AGAIN, EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. HOWEVER, THIS HAPPENED 2 OR 3 TIMES IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO. TO REPORT THE PROBLEM, AND THEY OPENED CASE #CAS-12676591. I FOUND A RECALL NOTICE ON THIS PROBLEM DATED 09/03/2010, RECALL #10E043000 AND ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE #14S05/NHTSA RECALL 14V-284 DATED JULY 2014. HOWEVER, FORD MOTOR CO. REFUSED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM TELLING ME IT WAS A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL REGARDLESS OF THE MANUFACTURER. IT COST US $1,868.04 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN JULY OF 2019, AND COST US ANOTHER $776.60 TO REPAIR. I WOULD HAVE FILED THIS COMPLAINT SOONER BUT JUST FOUND OUT HOW TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA.
WAS DRIVING ON I80 IN TRAFFIC, WITH THE TRAFFIC SPEEDS WERE ROUGHLY 35 MPH. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD IN TRAFFIC, WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE I NOTED THAT THE ENGINE HAD DIED. THIS LEFT ME UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN BREAK OR CRUISE IN A VERY BUSY INTERSTATE. I THEN STOPPED THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK, CYCLED THE KEY, THE ENGINE FIRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE 10 MILE DRIVE HOME. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SCENARIO. THIS HAPPENED WITH THE SAME VEHICLE ROUGHLY 10 TIMES IN 2013. THE ENGINE WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY TURN OFF, SOMETIMES ON THE INTERSTATE, SOMETIMES IN MY WORK PARKING LOT, SOMETIMES ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE IN TERMS OF THE SPEED OR DRIVING CONDITIONS. AT THE TIME, FORD REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND EVENTUALLY RE-IMBURSED ME ONCE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY CAME OUT. THE ISSUE HAD NOT OCCURRED SINCE THEN TIL TODAY. I SUSPECT THE THROTTLE BODY IS AT FAULT AGAIN, WITH A 95% CONFIDENCE. WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE SHOP TO CONFIRM. THIS FAILURE MODE IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HAS BEEN RECALLED ON 2005-2009 MARINERS AND ESCAPES. THE FAILURE MODE OF LOSING POWER ON A CONGESTED TRAFFICWAY IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND EXTREMELY FORSEEABLE BOTH FOR NHTSA AND FORD. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE RECALLED, NOT ADDRESSED VIA AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. NORTHGATE FORD (8940 COLERAIN AVE, CINCINNATI, OH) WAS CONTACTED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE, AND TORQUE SENSOR SOFTWARE WERE RESET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS, AND THE EXPENSE OF THE NEXT FAILURE WOULD BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.

MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2009 FORD ESCAPE YESTERDAY. SHE WAS GOING ABOUT 40 ON A CITY STREET AND COMPLETELY LOST POWER. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND COME TO MY WORK ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY. HER CAR DID JERK A LITTLE BUT SHE MADE IT. SHE WAS VERY SCARED. AFTER RESEARCHING, I FOUND THIS IS MOST LIKELY THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE RELATED TO FORD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION13N03. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND SURE ENOUGH IF IT THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY SAY, OUR VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION FIX. I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THE CAR IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND HAS 146,000 MILES, SO IT QUALIFIES, BUT THEY SAY ONLY CERTAIN VIN# QUALIFY. HOW IS THIS? SHE COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED OR INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. HOW COULD YOU LET FORD GET AWAY WITHOUT DOING A RECALL ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS? WE ARE OBVIOUSLY PAYING TO GET THIS FIXED, BUT IT IS RIDICULOUS. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND YOU EVEN KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT YET THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. WAS THEN SCANNED FOR TROUBLE CODES ( AT A COST OF $89.95 ) , AND CODES WERE FOUND FOR ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST RELATED TO THE TORQUE SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN . AT THIS POINT I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER SERVICE REP THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $895.00 FOR THE PART PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL. I COMPLAINED THAT THIS WAS A RECALL , BUT WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE WHEN THE VIN NUMBER WAS RAN THROUGH FORD'S SYSTEM , THEN I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS . I THEN STATED THAT THE IF THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AFTER THE RECALL WAS DONE , THEN THE RECALL AND ASSOCIATED PARTS WERE NO GOOD , AND THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE AT FORD'S EXPENSE , NOT MYSELF AS A CUSTOMER. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY: DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, I WAS ABLE TO AVOID TRAFFIC AND MAKE IT SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE ON. A FEW DAYS LATER THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, FORTUNATELY ON A LESS CROWDED STREET.

BOUGHT MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE XLT 4WD IN 2016.HAD NO PROBLEMS UP UNTIL AROUND MARCH, 2017 WHEN TRYING TO START VEHICLE.TURNED THE KEY TO START AND IT WOULDN'T. THINKING MAYBE THERE WAS A LITTLE MOISTURE ON IGNITION KEY SEEING HOW IT HAD RAINED EARLER AND KEYS WERE EXPOSED BUT NOPE.PULLED KEY OUT AND FLIPPED IT OVER THEN RETRIED. IT DID START AND DIDN'T THINK ANYMORE ABOUT IT. DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN TILL ABOUT 4 MOS LATER AND HAS GRADUALLY GOTTEN WORSE OVER TIME. NOW HAVE TO MAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS...UP TO 5-6 TIMES OTHER DAY BEFORE IT STARTED. JUST BY CHANCE I HAD PUSHED THE IGNITION KEY FURTHER IN THE START POSITION AND FELT KEY SLIP INTO IGNITION A "HAIR" MORE. IT STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY. THOUGHT THAT MAYBE ORIGINAL KEY WAS GETTING WORN AND THAT WAS WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT AFTER READING MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT EXACT SAME ISSUE IT SHOWS THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS. I HAVE TO TRAVEL ALONE WHEN OUT OF STATE FOR DR VISITS OR FAMILY MATTERS. WOULD SAY THIS CAN BECOME A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY FOR A FAMILY.
