MY ELECTRONIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING STARTED MALFUNCTIONING IN6/16, IOT WOULD RESET ITSELF SOME AT FIRST BUT BY 7/16 IT TOTALLY QUIT. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR IT, TOOK IT BACK TO THE PLACE I PURCHASED IT, THEIR COMPUTER WOULDN'T TALK TO MINE. I THEN TOOK IS TO W W FORD DEALER IN SEARCY, AR WHERE THEY ADVISED IT WAS A RECALL COMPUTER UPDATE THAT THEY HAD ALREADY PERFORMED LAST YEAR WHEN THE FUEL SYSTEM QUIT & HAD TO BE UPDATED. THEY REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT, REFUSED TO HOOK IT UP TO THEIR DIAGNOSTICS COMPUTER AND I'VE BEEN STUCK "STRONG ARM STEERING SINCE.
2009 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BAD THROTTLE BODIES. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THROTTLE BODY FAILED AT 62,338 MILES AND AGAIN 14 MONTHS LATER AT 75,927. *JS *JS
RADIATOR FAN IS CONSTANTLY RUNNING AT HIGH SPEED EVEN WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. WHEN TURNING ON THE AC FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR A CLOUD OF SOMETHING CAME OUT OF THE VENTS WHICH STARTLED THE DRIVER AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF IN A CONGESTED AREA. AC IS NOW BLOWING WARN AIR ONLY. THIS SAME ISSUE IS NOTED NUMEROUS TIMES IN ONLINE FORUMS FROM OTHER 2008 - 2011 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS.
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LEAKING FUEL SINCE FEB. 2016 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I'VE REPLACED THE EVAP. CANISTER DUE TO THE LEAK, THE SEAL WITH IT AS WELL, AND THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE. ALL THIS WORK WAS DONE AT 2 DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS. I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL AND WROTE TO FORD WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD FIX IT GRATIS. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE GASKET GOING INTO THE TANK AND THAT "SHOULD" TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T. GAS FUMES STILL FILLED MY CAR, AND LEAKED GAS ALL OVER THE GROUND WHEREVER I DROVE OR PARKED. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM I WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL, BUT NO ENGINE LIGHT AS IN THE LAST VISIT. THEY COULD SMELL IT AND SEE IT HAD SOAKED THE REAR END OF MY VEHICLE. THIS TIME THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE IS A PLASTIC RING AROUND THE TOP OF THE TANK THAT WAS CRACKED AND I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TANK AND SYSTEM FOR APPROXIMATELY $1000 ADDITIONAL ON TOP OF WHAT I HAD ALREADY REPLACED. I ASKED HIM HOW ALL THESE MECHANICS COULD MISS THIS?? AND HOW CAN IT CRACK IF IT'S SO TIGHT IN THERE UNLESS THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR IS THERE A DESIGN FLAW, OR A FAILURE OF THE PART ITSELF BECAUSE OF SOME PROBLEM IN MANUFACTURING. THE CAR LEAKS WHILE PARKED, IN MOTION, AND FILLS WITH GAS FUMES. I AM TERRIFIED I MAY HIT A POT HOLE AND BLOW UP. MYSELF I DON'T MIND, BUT I HAVE MY 2YO GRANDSON WITH ME AND THAT IS JUST SCARY AS ALL GET OUT. AND THERE IS NO ENGINE LIGHT THAT COMES ON FOR THIS. HE TELLS ME THE PART SEALS AS THE SYSTEM COMPRESSES WHEN STARTING AND THE GAS EXPANDS WITH HEAT THAT'S WHY THE OVERFLOW.THAT MAY EXPLAIN SOME, BUT I LOSE A TANK OF GAS EVERY 2-4 DAYS. IF THE BREAK IS AT THE TOP HOW IS THE GAS LEAVING MY TANK IN SUCH EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNTS? AND THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO SERVICED THAT CAR WERE FORD "MECHANICS".COMPUTER ILLITERATE FOR UPLOADS, BUT I HAVE DOCUMENTATION& PICS
WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH, SLOWING DOWN WHEN CAR LOST POWER. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. PRESSING ACCELERATOR DID NOTHING. CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN TO A STOP WITH CAR STILL RUNNING, ALBEIT HESITATING AND "IDLING ROUGH". TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON. CAR STARTED BACK UP AND RAN OK BUT DID THE SAME THING THE NEXT DAY, BUT THIS TIME THE WRENCH LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATED IT WAS LIKELY THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH HAD POTENTIAL FOR DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, CITING POSSIBLE SUDDEN DECELERATION. SO I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER TO FIX IT, BUT THEY DID NOT FIX IT. INSTEAD THEY "FIXED" A DIFFERENT CODE THEY SAID SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER AND DID NOT EVEN ADDRESS THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO DAYS LATER BUT, AGAIN, NO LIGHTS CAME ON. THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED, THE SAME THING OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN 2 MILES. APPARENTLY IT'S STILL THE THROTTLE BODY I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX A MONTH AGO THAT THEY DID NOT FIX. SO NOW I'M OUT $600 TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. ON ALL OCCASIONS, THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON SIDE CITY STREETS AT A FAIRLY SLOW RATE OF SPEED, NOT EXCEEDING 25 MPH. AND FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS CLEAR SO I COULD PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET THE CAR RE-STARTED SAFELY.
JUST DRIVING NORMALLY AND CAR STALLS OUT--SUPPOSEDLY A FAILED THROTTLE BODY.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE NORMALLY, ALL OF THE SUDDEN WITHOUT WARNING THE WRENCH INDICATOR WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON, AND THERE'S IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER. MOTOR BEGINS TO STRUGGLE, AND THERE IS NO RESPONSE WHEN HITTING THE GAS PEDAL. STRUGGLES TO EVEN MAKE IT TO GETTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. AFTER TURNING OFF VEHICLE, WAITING A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THEN RESTARTING VEHICLE, IT WILL DRIVE NORMALLY AGAIN, & THE WRENCH LIGHT IS NO LONGER THERE. HOWEVER, THIS SCENARIO KEEPS OCCURRING. IT STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT ONCE A WEEK, THEN A COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK, & THEN TO SEVERAL TIMES IN A SINGLE DAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COLUMN ASSEMBLY STEERING WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,457.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE LIFTGATE WINDOW DETACHED AND FELL TO THE GROUND. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LIFTGATE WINDOW HINGES WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000.
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING WHILE DRIVING! AFTER RESEARCHING ISSUE ON INTERNET, ESCAPES HAVE HAD SEVERAL RECALLS ON DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS INVOLVING STEERING., BUT NOT MY 2009. IT IS OBVIOUS THE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING HAS BEEN GOING ON MANY YEARS BUT FORD HAS NOT CORRECTED. IF MY SON HAD BEEN DRIVING WHEN IT WENT OUT, I SHIVER TO THINK WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE OUTCOME. STEERING ISSUES ARE VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEMS. COME ON FORD FIX THE ESCAPES ISSUES.
STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE SHAKING STOPPED FOR 1 DAY - THEN BEGAN AGAIN. TWO DAYS FOLLOWING THE DASHBOARD SENSOR READ - POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. POWER STEERING FAILED AT THIS TIME. I CONTACTED FORD - AS I BELIEVE THIS TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO A LARGE RECALL 14S05 1.3M VEHICLES. FORD COURTESY CAS9191445. FORD HAS DENIED THIS IS RELATED TO THE RECALL - ADVISING THIS VEHICLE VIN DOES NOT MATCH THE REFERENCED VIN'S- HOWEVER I AM EXPERIENCING THE NOTED ISSUES. WHAT ASSISTANCE CAN THE NHTSA PROVIDE ADDING THIS VEHICLE INTO THE RECALL. I CONTACTED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS IN HOPE OF RECEIVING ASSISTANCE/GUIDANCE - THIS ALSO WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. I HAD MY EVAP CANISTER LEAK WHICH I PAID TO HAVE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES AGO ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO A GAS LEAK. NOW I'VE BEEN TOLD THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE SEAL BECAUSE IT IS LEAKING FUEL AROUND THIS EVAP CANISTER AND IT'S A "CLOSED" SYSTEM. THEY CLAIM THE SEAL BLEW BECAUSE OF THE SYSTEM WHEN THEY PUT IN THE NEW EVAP CANISTER. THEY OFFERED TO DO THIS FOR AN ADDITIONAL $178.60 AT FORD'S QUICK LANE SERVICE. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE EVAP CANISTER WHY DIDN'T THEY REDO THE SEAL THEN? THEY CLAIM IT DIDN'T SHOW ON THE CODES IN THE COMPUTER. YET THE GAS SMELL NEVER WENT AWAY AND I FOUND GAS UNDER MY VEHICLE EVERYDAY FROM BEFORE AND SINCE THE "REPAIR" OF THE EVAP CANISTER. I WAS AWAY AND WHEN I RETURNED I CALLED THEM AND TOOK IT IN AND THAT'S WHEN I WAS GIVEN THIS INFORMATION. THEY ALSO TELL ME OTHER INTERNAL SEALS CAN ALSO GO WHEN THEY CHANGE THIS EVAP CANISTER. I GET THE "PRIVILEGE" OF PAYING THEM EACH TIME THEY DO A REPAIR TWICE! ONE FOR WHATEVER THEY REPLACED THE EVAP CANISTER WHICH THEY SWEAR WAS THE ONLY PROBLEM AND THEN WHEN IT DIDN'T RESEAL THE SYSTEM THE SEAL BLEW. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THEY COULDN'T HAVE SEEN OR KNOWN ABOUT THIS SEAL FROM THIS HAPPENING BEFORE. AND EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T OR COULDN'T, WHY WASN'T THE SEAL REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION TO THEIR SEALED SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE IS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE, AND IT HAS BEEN IN THEIR SHOP FOR MORE REPAIRS THAN I CARE TO REMEMBER. EVERY TIME THEY FIX ONE PROBLEM ANOTHER ONE MIRACULOUSLY APPEARS WITHIN 100 MILES OR SO.

HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING VEHICLE. MUST PUSH KEY IN VERY HARD, SO MUCH SO THAT YOUR HAND WILL HURT, IN ORDER FOR IT TO START. SOMETIMES IT STARTS, SOMETIMES IT WON'T. HAS LEFT MY FAMILY STRANDED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. ACTS LIKE YOU CAN'T PUSH IN KEY IN FAR ENOUGH TO MAKE IT START. SITTING UNDER MY CARPORT NOW, UNABLE TO START AND UNABLE TO PAY THE $500.00 PLUS REPAIR COST. NOT VERY HAPPY RIGHT NOW!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING MY POWER STEERING LOCKED, MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER STOP THE VEHICLE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE AT WHICH TIME THE SYMPTOMS WENT AWAY BUT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED TO DRIVE HOME.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE FELT THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE LAMINATE BEING EXPOSED AND THAT THE FAILURE WORSENED WITH DIRECT SUNLIGHT. IN ADDITION , THE FAILURE WORSENED WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND THE HEADLIGHTS OF ANOTHER VEHICLE ENCOUNTERED THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LAMINATE WAS COMING LOOSE FROM THE WINDSHIELD AND THAT THE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS COVERED BY RECALL 14S05, FORD IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR BECAUSE THEY "REPROGRAMMED" IT AND CLOSED OUT THE RECALL IN AUGUST 2014, WHICH THEY CLAIM FIXED THE PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY, IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING THE ESCAPE THE STEERING WHEEL JUST LOCKS UP IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. I HAVE TO GET THE ESCAPE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF AND RESTART TO GET THE STEERING WHEEL TO UNLOCK. HAVE TAKEN IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY IT'S NOT ON RECALL SO THEY CANT FIX IT. THEY DID CLEAN THE WIRES AND SAID IT SHOULD BE FINE, BUT IT STILL DID IT AGAIN.

AFTER THE VEHICLE RESUMED IN OPERATION THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE ON JAN 29,2016 WENT TO DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE SERVICE MAN TURNED KEY FOR MILEAGE A MESSAGE READ POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT HE SAID I WONDER WHY THIS IS SHOWING? HE FIDDLED WITH A FEW BUTTONS AND DISMISSED IT. LEFT CAR FOR OIL CHANGE RETURNED PICKED UP WENT TO APT. I WENT BACK TO DEARLERSHIP TOOK THE PRINT OUT OF SAFETY RECALL THEY DID SOMETHING ON THEIR COMPUTER FOUND THEY HAD DONE A COMPUTER REPROGRAMING IN AUG 2014 AND SORRY THE RECALL FOR US WAS CLOSED. I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER BUT THE SERVICE DEPT IN AUG 2014 WHEN HAVING A REGULAR OIL CHANGE THEY PERFORMED THIS REPROGRAMMING FOR THIS RECALL WHICH AFTER NOW LEAVES ME UNABLE TO GET HELP. ON JANUARY 18, 2016 I PAID $2,829.78 FOR BRAKE REPAIRS ON OUR 2009 FORD ESCAPE (V6 / 2-WHEEL DRIVE, WITH 136,221 MILES ON THE ODOMETER). THE BRAKE REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED BECAUSE OF A FAILURE IN BOTH THE ABS BRAKING MODULE AND THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED INVOICE FROM CORNERSTONE FORD), WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SINK TO THE FLOOR WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT FORD HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN 2 MAJOR BRAKE SYSTEM PARTS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME (I WAS TOLD BY CORNERSTONE FORD THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IN THE ESCAPES, AND REPLACING ONLY THE MASTER CYLINDER WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THERE WAS FLUID BLOW-BY PAST THE SEALS IN BOTH PARTS). I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE NUMBER 14S05 INVOLVING THE POWER STEERING, I TOOK THE CAR INTO BRIAN MOTORS IN EVERETT WASHINGTON ON DECEMBER 16, 2015. RECALL WAS TAKEN CARE. I HAD NO PROBLEM PRIOR TAKING IT INTO THE DEALER. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER I EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO BRIAN MOTORS IN EVERETT WASHINGTON AND WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS ONE OF THE REPAIR OPTIONS LISTED IN THE RECALL. I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT FORD HAD CLOSED THE RECALL AND THE PRICE OF THE REPAIR WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 1500$ . AFTER CALLING FORD COSTUMER SERVICE IN DEARBORN AND BEING TOLD AGAIN THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD BEEN CLOSED. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT MANY OWNERS OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL ESCAPE HAVE EXPERIENCED IDENTICAL PROBLEMS AND RECEIVED THE SAME RESPONSE FROM FORD. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE POWER STEERING COLUMN ON 2009 FORD ESCAPES AND IT IS FORDS RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HAD TO STOP AND TURN VEHICLE OFF IN TRAFFIC AND BACK ON. NO CORRECTION TO PROBLEM THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT BACK TO FORD DEALERSHIP. 11/25/15 ' I WAS TOLD THE TORQUE SENSOR NEEDS REPLACED. I ADVISED THEM THE RECALL WAS NOT PROPERLY FIXED THE FIRST TIME. SERVICE TECH CONTACTED FORD HOTLINE TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHY THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ADDRESSED WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE PART THAT INDICATED AS THE ISSUE. 11/30/15 ' FORD SERVICE TECHNICIANS HAD TO WORK WITH FORD HOTLINE TO TROUBLESHOOT VEHICLE. THEY SAID NOW MY WHOLE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. FORD SAID I NEEDED TO PAY FOR BOTH PARTS (WHICH DID NOT FIX ANY PROBLEM) AND LABOR. I REFUSE TO PAY FOR ANY PARTS. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP WITH THIS ISSUE SO LONG MY TAGS ARE NOW DEAD. MY CAR NEEDS A SAFETY INSPECTION AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY COULD PERFORM THE SAFETY INSPECTION AND JUST ELECTRONICALLY PUT THE 'PASSED' INFORMATION INTO THE SYSTEM. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND IS STILL AT DEALERSHIP TO DATE.
MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE HAS DIFFICULTY GETTING ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY, THIS IS A DAILY STRUGGLE. YESTERDAY I WAS TRYING TO PASS AN 18-WHEELER AS IT WAS DRIFTING INTO MY LANE; AS I EAGERLY PRESSED ON THE GAS MY CAR JUMPED AND CONTINUED TO COAST AT THE SAME SPEED. EARLIER THIS MONTH, I HAD TO DECELERATE FROM 40 MPH TO A FAIRLY ABRUPT STOP AND MY CAR WAS UNABLE TO. I JUST HAD MY BRAKE PADS REPLACED SO I KNEW THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM, MY CAR JOLTED A TOTAL OF 7 TIMES BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. I ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO FALL APART, THE RATTLING COMING FROM THE SUSPENSION IS CONSTANT. I GET MY FORD ESCAPE CHECKED UP EVERY MONTH, BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS I HAVE. THIS CAR IS A HAZARD TO MY SAFETY, AND I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING IN THIS ROLLING PLASTIC DEATH TRAP. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 36,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE COST. I DECIDED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED FOR FEAR THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD QUIT WHILE DRIVING. A FEW TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK I HAVE DRIVEN MY VEHICLE STRAIGHT FROM A PARKED LOCATION ONLY TO FIND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING 40-50 YARDS INTO THE TRIP. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I PULL OVER AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, THE PROBLEMS USUALLY GOES AWAY, OR GOES AWAY AFTER SEVERAL SHUTDOWN CYCLES. MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF RECALL 14S05, AND RECEIVED A SOFTWARE UPDATE IN 2014. SINCE THEN THE STEERING HAS BEEN NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT AND SOMETIMES SHAKY WHEN BRAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. EVEN WORSE, FORD IS NOT HONORING THE RECALL. I WENT INTO A DEALERSHIP TODAY AND THEY INFORMED ME THE RECALL WAS CLOSED OUT AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FREE OF CHARGE, EVEN THOUGH MUCH OF WHAT I'VE READ FROM THIS INVESTIGATION IS THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE ONLY PUSHED OFF THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT FIX IT. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE SPEED INCREASED TO OVER 65 MPH. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
