TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL MILES LATER AS THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
CAR STALLED WHILE MOVING 3 TIMES. ONCE WHILE IN MOTION, THE OTHER 2 RIGHT AFTER STOPS. WOULD HIT THE GAS & THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. I WOULD TURN OFF THE CAR & RESTART IT & IT WOULD RUN OK, THEN DO IT AGAIN. TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE TO HAVE THEM TELL ME WHAT CODES CAME UP & THEY SAID IT WAS THE P2111 STATING THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK ON OPEN. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER & CAN'T HAVE TAKE THIS KIND OF RISK WITH HER. ITS HAPPENED AGAIN OVER THE LAST WEEK SEVERAL TIMES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. THE CAR WAS RUNNING JUST FINE WHEN IT SUDDENLY DECELERATED AND DIED. THE LITTLE WRENCH ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP. I TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. IT WAS EXACTLY LIKE THE EXPERIENCES OF THE OTHER ESCAPE OWNERS WHO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE. I HAD BEEN NOTICING A "FLUTTER" UNDER THE ACCELERATOR A FEW TIMES, BUT DON'T KNOW IF IT COULD BE RELATED. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR A MONTH. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ FROM ESCAPE OWNERS ON OTHER SITES, FORD COMPANY'S REPUTATION IS SUFFERING. I HOPE OUR CONCERNS ARE BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON I-95 SOUTH AND AS I WAS EXITING TO GO WEST ON I-495 MY FORD ESCAPE LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT THERE WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC AROUND ME AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND COME TO A STOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WHERE IT WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION THEN THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO STATED THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WRENCH SYMBOL. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE IT FUNCTIONED NORMALLY BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED BEFORE REACHING HIS DESTINATION. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED. I'M DRIVING NORMALLY, AT A CONSTANT SPEED, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, RPMS DO WEIRD THINGS, GAS PEDAL DOESN'T DO ANYTHING, PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL IN A DRIFT DOWNSPEED DOES NOTHING, PARK DOES NOTHING. PUTTING IT IN PARK AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE, AND STARTING AGAIN MAKES THE LIGHT GO AWAY AND RUN FINE AGAIN. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS I TRAVEL WITH YOUNG CHILDREN AND THIS WILL HAPPEN WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. VERY DISAPPOINTED FORD WILL NOT RECALL AND FIX THIS VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR LOST SPEED AND RPMS. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT RAN AT AN IDLE. DEALERSHIP SAID THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART HAS NEED ON BACK ORDER FOR SOME TIME. *TR
THE ENGINE SPUTTERS AND STALLS WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS DONE THIS 10 OR MORE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. THE YELLOW WRENCH SYMBOL IS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER GETTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SWITCHING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE CAR WILL RUN FINE FOR A FEW MILES - SOMETIMES FOR A DAY OR TWO. AFTER TALKING WITH A COUPLE FORD DEALERS, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND THERE WAS NO THROTTLE BODY'S AVAILABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TWO TO THREE MONTH BACKORDER FOR THE PART. IF I KEEP DRIVING THE CAR IT WILL BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE CAR WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING AROUND 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO DIE.I PULLED OVER AND REALIZED IT WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT WOULD ONLY IDLE AND DID NOT RESPOND TO PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND DROVE ABOUT 50 MILES WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT,BUT ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE NEXT DAY, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND IT LOST POWER IMMEDIATELY. I RESTARTED IT AND WITHIN DRIVING 5 MILES IT " DIED" OVER 15 TIMES. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT ONE MORE TIME AND IT REPEATED THE SAME PROBLEM 3 TIMES BEFORE I MADE IT TO THE END OF MY BLOCK..I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,210. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AND LOST POWER WITH NO WARNING. WENT INTO "LIMP HOME MODE, FORD'S SAFETY FEATURE, HA HA". MANAGED TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING RUN OVER, BUT THERE WERE A LOT OF HORN BLOWING AND UPSET PEOPLE BEHIND ME. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT OFF ENGINE AND CRANKED RIGHT BACK UP. QUIT AGAIN BEFORE ARRIVING AT HOME ON THE SAME TRIP AND SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE FORD WILL RECALL A MANUFACTURING DEFECT? *TR
CAR SEEMS TO LOOSE POWER. ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING IT SEEMS TO NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE OR MOVE. I HAVE TO TURN ON MY BLINKERS AND COAST TO A SAFE PLACE AND STOP AND RESTART MY ENGINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO A STAND STILL WITHOUT REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDDLE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND POWER TRAIN/THROTTLE BODY LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. *TR
CAR SURGED THEN STALLED ON INTERSTATE 65MPH. 2ND TIME AT 40MPH ON COUNTY HWY. THROTTLE BODY BAD-PART ON NATIONAL BACKORDER 2 WEEK DELAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,500.
2009 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THROTTLE BODY PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE MERGED ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE TOTALLY SHUT DOWN. THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND TURNED OFF THE KEY AND RE-STARTED THE ENGINE. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER.
VEHICLE "JERKED" AND LOST ALL THROTTLE. OPEN ENDED WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO SMALL SERVICE CENTER WHO SCANNED THE COMPUTER AND IT HAD THE FAULTY P2111 CODE (THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN). CODE WAS CLEARED AND CAR RESTARTED. DIED ANOTHER 6 TIMES ON THE WAY HOME, EACH TIME RESTARTING AFTER TURNING THE KEY OFF. I SEE THAT THIS IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION AND WANTED TO BRING YET ANOTHER INSTANCE TO YOUR ATTENTION. IF THIS WOULD OF HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE OR A LARGE LEFT HAND TURN LANE DURING RUSH HOUR IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PRETTY. *TR
ACCELERATED TO ENTER FREEWAY, APROX 55 MPH, AND THEN THE VEHICLE ACTED LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING ANY GAS. IT PULLED ITSELF ALONG AT IDLE. I STOPPED, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT WITH NO PROBLEMS AFTERWARDS. I HAD IT SCANNED A FEW MINUTES LATER AND THE STORED CODE WAS P2111. ETB (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) STUCK OPEN/CLOSED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE BELTLINE, THE VEHICLE STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR. I PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS, CHANGED TWO LANES TO GET TO THE RIGHT-HAND SHOULDER, AND STOPPED. FORTUNATELY THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT HEAVY AT THE TIME (9:30PM). RESTARTING THE VEHICLE FIXED THE PROBLEM, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. HOWEVER DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARD, I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 7:45 AM ON MONDAY, JULY 8TH, 2013, I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE TO WORK. I STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE CORNER OF EAST 30TH STREET AND NORTH SHADELAND AVENUE. ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN FROM EAST 30TH STREET TO TURN LEFT (SOUTHBOUND) ON NORTH SHADELAND AVENUE WHEN THE VEHICLE (2009 FORD ESCAPE) STALLED AND THE CAR TURNED OFF. I TRIED TO START THE CAR BACK UP...THE VEHICLE STARTED BUT WHEN I HIT THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I HAD TO COAST TO THE NEAREST SHOULDER FOR SAFETY. I CALLED A FORD'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME THE REPAIRS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WAS: 1) THROTTLE BODY, 2) REPROGRAMMING THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER SYSTEM AFTER THE THROTTLE BODY IS REPAIRED, 3) FUEL INJECTORS AS WELL AS 4) AIR FILTER...THE DEALER'S TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIRS WAS QUOTED TO ME AS $620.00!!! WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS OF THE FORD ESCAPE HAVING WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE HELP ME RECOUP THE MAJOR COST OF THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIRS AS I FEEL FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD REPAIR AT NO COST BECAUSE THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ISSUED BY FORD. *TR
VEHICLE LOOSES POWER AND MUST PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN ROUGHLY BUT NO POWER GOES TO THE WHEELS. ONCE STOPPED I TURN VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO RUN OKAY. BUT IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES ON 7/8/2013. THE CODE IS P2111. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER SO I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. ON MONDAY, JULY 8 AT 8:45 AM I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE FROM MY HOME TO MY OFFICE...A DISTANCE OF 17.3 MILES. I HAD COMPLETED APPROXIMATELY 14 OF THOSE MILES, TRAVELING ON A FOUR LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND ON CRUISE CONTROL. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR SHUT DOWN. THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO RUN AT SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED POWER...ENOUGH TO POWER THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM...BUT NOT THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STEER OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND ACCESS THE SITUATION. THIS FAILURE HAD NEVER OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY WITH THIS VEHICLE. A WRENCH LIGHT WAS NOW APPEARING ON THE CONTROL PANEL AND THE CAR WAS BARELY RUNNING. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT IT DOWN. THEN I TURNED THE KEY AND IT RESTARTED AND SEEMED TO RUN FINE. I CONTINUED THE JOURNEY HOPING IT WAS A ONE-TIME GLITCH. THAT SAME AFTERNOON AT APPROXIMATELY 4 PM, I STARTED MY RETURN TRIP HOME. WITHIN THE FIRST MILE, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, THE SAME SHUTDOWN OCCURRED. THIS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES AS I MADE MY WAY HOME. THE APPROXIMATE SPEED FOR EACH SHUTDOWN WAS AS FOLLOWS: #1 - 15 MPH, #2 - 50 MPH, #3 - 55 MPH, #4 - 15 MPH. THAT NIGHT, HAVING READ, ON THE INTERNET, ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE "THROTTLE BODY CONTROL" PART WITH FORD ESCAPES AND HAVE NOTED YOUR CASE # PE13-003, I DECIDED I WOULD PRESENT THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIR AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THAT WAS, IN FACT, THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS REPAIRED ON JULY 9, 2013 BY TOM MASANO AUTO GROUP, 1600 LANCASTER AVE., READING PA 19607 AT A COST OF $378.05. THIS FAILURE PRESENTS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THERE IS NO WAY OF PREDICTING WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. LUCKILY, EVEN THOUGH I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO SAFELY WITHOUT INCIDENT. I, AND OTHERS, MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY THE NEXT TIME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND GOT NO RESPONSE (NO ACCELERATION) TRIED SEVERAL MORE TIMES AND STILL HAD NO RESPONSE AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON A SIDE STREET; HOWEVER, THIS WAS POTENTIALLY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HAD IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ON A FREEWAY OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. ONCE I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, EVERYTHING WAS WORKING AGAIN. TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO THEN HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WAS ON BACK ORDER DUE TO THIS BEING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. *TR
2009 FORD ESCAPE HAS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT WITH ITS THROTTLE BODY COMPONENT. WHILE DRIVING DURING NORMAL OPERATION, THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE WITHOUT WARNING. A YELLOW WRENCH APPEARS IN THE CONSOLE INDICATING A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE WILL REDUCE TO IDLE SPEED, THE FOOT ACCELERATOR IS INOPERABLE DURING THIS INCIDENT. WHEN IN THE IDLE MODE, THE VEHICLE SPEED IS REDUCED TO ABOUT 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE TURNED OFF, THEN RESTARTED.IN ORDER TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM. THE FIRST TWO INCIDENTS HAPPENED ON CONSECUTIVE DAYS. A WEEK LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TODAY, IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES, ONCE ON THE BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. FORD CLAIMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THEREFORE THE REPLACEMENT PART IS ON BACK-ORDER. I ORDERED MY PART (EXPRESS) THRU THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND TOP DATE THE PART HAS NOT ARRIVED. FORD IS UNABLE TO GIVE N ESTIMATED ARRIVAL DATE OF THE REPLACEMENT PART. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR BEGAN TO IDLE. I TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON FIVE MINUTES LATER AND IT ACCELERATED FOR 1/4 OF A MILE BEFORE DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. I TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO MY MECHANIC. AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY AS WELL AS THE PROCESSOR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL, I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND WHEN I TRIED TO PRESS GAS, MY ENGINE STALLED AND DIED. WHEN HOOKED UP TO DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHY MY SUV KEEPS DYING WHEN IDLE, THE CODE WAS "P2112" THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK CLOSED. *TR
STARTED TO DRIVE CAR AND ENGINE QUIT, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON DASHBOARD. HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WHEN IT WAS REPLACED ALMOST EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING MY ESCAPE IT BEGAN TO SHAKE AND I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF, SIT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN RESTART IT. I HAD TO DO THIS EVERY HALF MILE ON MY DRIVE HOME TO GET MY CAR HOME. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE AND I HAD SOMEONE FOLLOW ME HOME. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR MADE A VERY HARD JERK; IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE FELL TO THE GROUND, AND THEN NO POWER WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDDLE. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHICH PUT ME AT THE END OF AN ENTRANCE RAMP ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS SO SCARED BECAUSE OF WHERE MY CAR ENDED UP. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND DROVE ABOUT 30 FT AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED... THE TERRIBLE JERK AND NO POWER. I PULLED OVER AND WAITED FOR AT LEAST ONE HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK. I AM THANKFUL IT WAS NOT DARK OUT. I WAS TOLD BY THE FORD DEALER THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS ON LINE OF THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. BESIDES THIS BEING A COSTLY EXPERIENCE [IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A WARRANTY] IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS PART GOES OUT. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALLED ITEM AND PEOPLE REIMBURSED FOR HAVING TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, CONDITIONS, THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT APPEARS AND THE CAR BECOMES LIMP AND NON RESPONSIVE. ENGINE WAS RUNNING HARD. HAD TO TURN OFF VEHICLE AND RESTART (WHICH WAS DIFFICULT). THIS OCCURRED AGAIN WITHIN MINUTES, THIS TIME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. WENT DIRECTLY TO REPAIR SHOP AND HAD IT CHECKED. WAS TOLD THAT ERROR CODE P2111 WAS BEING SHOWN. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED AND THE GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, THE SAME PROBLEMS CONTINUED. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR, ESPECIALLY WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT AS I AM WORRIED IT WILL DIE WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC OR THAT SOMEONE WILL REAR END US. *TR

CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND YOU HAVE TO GET OFF OF HIGHWAY AND TURN OFF CAR AND RESTART TO RESET COMPUTER. THIS WORKS FOR ABOUT 10 MILES AND THEN IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. MY DEALERSHIP HAS THE CAR AND IS REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY SO WE CAN DRIVE THE CAR AND NOT BE IN DANGER. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING 70 MPH. THE GAS PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BUT THE CAR WAS GETTING NO POWER. LUCKILY THE FREEWAY WAS NOT CROWDED AND WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND THE PEDAL SEEMED TO BE WORKING. BUT 30 MILES LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER FOR 3 WEEKS. *TR
ABOUT A YEAR TO YEAR AND A HALF AGO I LOST ALL FORWARD MOTION WHILE DRIVING, COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR, AND THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND A FEW MINUTES LATER IT STARTED IT RIGHT UP. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER A COUPLE OF WEEKS PERIOD, I TOOK IT TO OUR FORD HOUSE BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES. I THEN TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE THOUGHT IT WAS A THROTTLE ISSUE BUT COULDN'T FIND THE EXACT PROBLEM, SO HE SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT BACK TO THE FORD HOUSE AND LET THEM "PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER" AND LOOK AGAIN. I DID BUT THEY SAID ALTHOUGH THEY UNPLUGGED AND RECONNECTED SEVERAL THINGS THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS FOR A FEW MONTHS AND NOW IT HAS STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN, 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. NOW IT SPUTTERS SOME WHEN I RESTART IT BUT SO FAR IT HAS STARTED. I HAVE A TODDLER AND DEPEND ON MY CAR TO GET US AROUND AND THIS IS A VERY REAL SAFETY CONCERN. GETTING REAR-ENDED OR RUN OVER WHILE TRYING TO GET OFF THE ROAD IS A HUGE FEAR. IT SOUNDS LIKE WHEN I TAKE IT BACK TO THE FORD HOUSE, AND I WILL, THE WAIT ON THE PART WILL STILL MEAN I'LL BE DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE FOR A WHILE .FORD NEEDS TO PAY ATTENTION BEFORE THERE IS A FATALITY AND THEN THE WHOLE WORLD WILL KNOW HOW MUCH THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING AROUND A CORNER AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NO LONGER WORK. NO OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON, JUST THE WRENCH LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, FORTUNATELY, AS THE STEERING STILL WORKED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED, AND IT RAN FINE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. SINCE THAT OCCURRENCE, I HAVE HAD THE ENGINE DIE MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS GENERALLY HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT SIGNAL. THE CAR DIES, AND IT IS ALWAYS RIGHT BEFORE THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN! YOU HAVE TO QUICKLY PUT IT IN PARK, RESTART THE ENGINE, AND THEN IT RUNS FINE. WHEN IT DIES, THE THROTTLE WILL NOT FUNCTION AT ALL AS IT GOES RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, IT DIED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ALSO. SAME SCENARIO AS MENTIONED ABOVE AND ALSO WHEN STOPPED, THE CAR THROTTLE KIND OF SURGES, ALMOST AS IF THE CAR IS GOING TO DIE. WHEN YOU APPLY GAS, IT JUMPS FORWARD. I TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALER AND AFTER MULTIPLE VISITS THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE A CODE READER AND THE CODE WAS P2111 AND P2112 (ERROR THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK). THEY FIRST CHARGED ME FOR "CLEANING" THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. SAID I MUST HAVE BLOWN DUST IN IT! ALSO TOLD ME MY 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION HAS SHIFT ISSUES ON HARD ACCELERATION....PROBABLY CAUSED BY THEM. TALKED TO PARTS DEPT AND THROTTLE BODY QUOTE $200.83, WHEN SERVICE ADVISOR ASKED IF I WANTED THEM TO REPLACE IT HE QUOTED $240.00. *TR

ENGINE WAS SUCCESSFULLY RESTARTED AND VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER SHOP. ON WAY TO SHOP, FAILURE OCCURRED ON BUSY 4 LANE STREET AT 45 MPH. GETTING TO SHOULDER WAS AWKWARD BUT SUCCESSFUL. PARTS TOOK 11 DAYS TO GET TO DEALER SERVICE. *TR

IT CONTINUED TO RUN SLOWLY AND WE PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. CAR RESTARTED AND RAN NORMALLY OVER 100 MILES TO FINAL DESTINATION. LOCAL REPAIR SHOP DETECTED NO "CODES" BUT SUGGESTED A FORD DEALER EXAMINE BASED UPON HISTORY. DEALER CONFIRMED COMPUTER ISSUE WITH THROTTLE BODY FAULTS CAUSED STALL AND REPLACED PART. TOTAL COSTS APPROX $300. NO RECURRENCE OF STALLS ON HIGHWAY. *TR

I COULD NOT PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC BECAUSE THIS PART OF THE HIGHWAY HAS NO SHOULDER AND IS BORDERED BY A CONCRETE WALL OR FENCE. THE RIGHT-LANE TRAFFIC CAME TO A STOP WHILE I RESTARTED THE CAR. AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR, I PROCEEDED DOWN THE FREEWAY, BUT BEFORE I ARRIVED AT THE NEXT EXIT, THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. I FEARED FOR MY SAFETY AND FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS. I EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR INCIDENT ON 6/20/13 AND REPORTED IT TO SAFERCAR.GOV. AT THAT TIME, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO SERVICES MY CAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON TO FORD ESCAPES THAT THERE IS A 3 WEEK BACKLOG FOR ORDERING A REPLACEMENT PART. IN THE MEANTIME, THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE PCM (POWER CONTROL MODULE?) ' FOR $118 ' AS A TEMPORARY FIX. APPARENTLY, THE 'FIX' WAS VERY TEMPORARY. MY CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVEN UNTIL THE THROTTLE BODY IS REPLACED. FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS, I CANNOT RISK DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK. HOW MANY LIVES MUST BE PLACED AT RISK BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT? *TR

I ASKED IF IT WAS POSSIBLE TO GET THE PART THREW A DIFFERENT COMPANY AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE PART CANNOT BE FOUND ANYWHERE BUT I MAY BE ABLE TO GET A USED ONE FROM A WRECKED CAR. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR AND DROVE IT HOME IT STALLED TWICE. I DID AS I WAS ADVISED BY FORD, I TURNED OFF THE CAR, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR. THIS WORKED BOTH TIMES BUT IS NOT A VERY SAFE WAY TO DRIVE. FORTUNATELY I HAD SOMEONE FOLLOWING ME AND WE BOTH HAD OUR HAZARDS ON AS THE CARS BEHIND US WERE NOT HAPPY WHEN I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. *TR
