UPDATE ON COMPLAINT #10515406 - TOOK CAR TO DEALER - THE DIAGNOSIS IS A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THEY WANT $474 TO FIX IT. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL YET...UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 1.6 MILLION FORD ESCAPES WITH THIS ISSUE MODEL YEARS 2005-2012. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A WIDELY KNOWN FAILURE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AT 30MPH, WHEN I LOST SPEED CONTROL. THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND WHILE IT WAS STILL ON(THE ENGINE), I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I COASTED INTO A GAS STATION AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE ENGINE WAS AT A VERY LOW IDLE AND IT SOUNDED AS IF IT WERE GOING TO CUT OFF. I ALSO GOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH. A GUY LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, THERE WAS NO SMOKE, NOTHING LEAKING, OR ANYTHING. HE TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WAS GONE AND I COULD DRIVE IT AGAIN. I WAS GOING TO TAKE IT OUT TO WESTWAY FORD AND IT DID IT AGAIN BEFORE I GOT THERE. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT LOOK AT THE CODE BECAUSE WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF I RESET IT. THEY DID INFORM ME HOWEVER THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE THROTTLE BODY AND AMONG OTHER THINGS THAT THEY RECOMMENDED IT WOULD COST ME $1286.00 TO FIX. DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY! *TR
INTERMITTENTLY..SOMETIMES A WEEK APART AND THEN GOT WORSE ..THE CAR QUIT MOVING DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY CODE P2111. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF AND CAR RESTARTED AFTER COASTING TO A SAFE SPOT. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY COULD NOT GET THE PART AS OVER 5000 WERE BACK ORDERED NATIONALLY. EVENTUALLY IN SEPTEMBER I GOT THE PART AND CAR FIXED. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THE PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED AND COSTS LESS NOW. I HAVE READ AND HEARD MANY SIMILAR STORIES ABOUT THIS PART..THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE WILL SURELY BE A RECALL AS THEY ARE SMALL DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE EVEN SEEING QUITE A BIT OF THIS. I HOPE SOMEONE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. THANKS FOR ACCEPTING INPUT. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SUDDENLY STOPPED RESPONDING AND THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND PUT ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RESPONDED AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR A SHORT WHILE BEFORE IT FAILED AGAIN. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I REPEATED THIS CYCLE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE CODES INDICATED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ADVISED THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND WON'T BE AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS, WHICH MEANS I WON'T BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR (THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL DUE TO BACKORDERED PARTS). THIS IS NOW VERY INCONVENIENT. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALREADY COMPLETELY REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE AT AROUND 30K MILES, ALONG WITH A FAILED POWER WINDOW MOTOR, REAR GLASS HATCH SEALS, ETC. *TR
LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING.AFTER A YEAR OF INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THIS I TOOK IT INTO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY....TROUBLE CODE P 2111 .DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) P2111, THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN. ITS COST ME US$275. I THINK FORD MUST BE ASSUME THE COST BECAUSE IS CAR FAILURE FROM FABRIC. LET ME KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : DP12006. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON MAJOR THOROUGH FAIR AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL SPEED. WENT TO LIMP MODE. THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT WORK. I PULLED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND ALL WAS FINE. THIS EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN LATER THAT SAME DAY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. NOR COULD THEY FIX IT. THIS WAS DUE TO THE FACT THE FORD WAS NOT CURRENTLY RELEASING THE PART. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE CAR WENT IN TO LIMP MODE. WE COSTED TO THE SHOULDER TURNED CAR OFF. IT RE STARTED NO ISSUES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO MY MECHANIC WHO CLEAN THROTTLE BODY PLATE. CAR RAN GREAT FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS THEN AGAIN SAME PROBLEM ARISES. CALL FORD TO PURCHASE PART AND TOLD IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER NO IDEA WHEN THE PART COULD BE AVAILABLE. SO I AM NOT STUCK WITH A CAR THAT COULD GET ME OR MY FAMILY HURT. *TR
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE - 2009 FORD ESCAPE [XXX] FIRST TIME: DRIVING 35 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN NOTHING...NO POWER, NO ACCELERATION. LUCKILY I WAS NOT REAR ENDED WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I HAD TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT, SHUT OFF THE TRUCK FOR 5 MINUTES, RESTART AND DROVE HOME WHICH WAS LESS THAN 1 MILE AWAY. NEXT DAY RAN OKAY, NEXT DAY NO POWER, NO ACCELERATION. TOOK TO DEALER ON JUNE 7, 2013 AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND GAS FUEL INDUCTION FLUSH BECAUSE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR REPLACEMENT. SECOND/THIRD TIME: LEAVING FOR VACATION. GOT ABOUT 5 MILES FROM HOME AND NOTHING, NO POWER, NO ACCELERATION. COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE CAR LURCHED...LUCKILY I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THE TRUCK IS STILL THERE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART TO FIX IT. IT HAS BEEN PARKED AT THE DEALERSHIP WAITING FOR THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY PART TO FIX THE ISSUE FOR OVER A WEEK. SO FAR I HAVE SPEND $278.37 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND GAS FUEL INDUCTION FLUSH AND STILL HAVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE DUE TO AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE IS NOTHING. THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING BUT GIVING IT GAS WILL NOT HELP IT TO MOVE. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND PULL OFF ROAD. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. THIS WORKS BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. NOW IT JUST SHUTS DOWN SPORADICALLY. I CANNOT BE SURE WHEN OR WHERE IT WILL HAPPEN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (TOWN AND COUNTRY FORD) AND I AM WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY WHERE I HAVE MY LOAN AND THEY SAID EVEN IF THE PART IS DEFECTIVE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTIES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 20 MILES AN HOUR ON A SIDE STREET AT 2:15 PM WHEN THE CAR DECELERATED OR LOST POWER AND THE YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH - TURNED OFF ENGINE STARTED CAR AGAIN AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE BUT ONLY WENT ABOUT 100 FEET. PULLED INTO MIDDLE TURN LANE AND PUT ON FLASHERS. AFTER 10 MINUTES STARTED CAR AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 3/4 MILES TO OUR HOUSE. WHAT IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH SPEED AND LOST ACCELERATION IMMEDIATELY? THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. OF COURSE IT WAS A WEEKEND AND FORD IS NOT OPEN..... WILL BRING IT IN ON MONDAY. THIS IS THE 2ND ENGINE LIGHT ISSUE IN AS MANY MONTHS - THE FIRST WAS A MAJOR REPAIR TO REPLACE SOME KIND OF SENSOR. ENGINE REPAIRS LIKE THIS ARE UNACCEPTABLE ON A CAR WITH LOW MILEAGE. WE TAKE THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALER FOR EACH CHECKUP. FORD TEAM SEEMS TO THINK IT'S MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THESE ISSUE. THIS WAS 30K PLUS CAR AND I EXPECT IT TO BE SAFE AND WORK EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT. I'M NOW VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AS I SEE MANY REPORTS OF THIS ON THE INTERNET. I WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND ACCELERATOR STOPPED. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND IT RAN FINE FOR A FEW MILES THEN REPEATED TWICE MORE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WAS BAD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY APPROX 55-65 MILE PER HOUR ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, RPMS WENT DOWN TO 1000 AND WOULD NOT REV BACK UP UNTIL I PULLED THE CAR OVER ON THE SHOULDER PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUT IT OFF AND BACK ON. THIS HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 5 TIMES SINCE AND SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE OFTEN UNTIL I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALER. ALSO OCCURED LEAVING A STOP. *TR
CAR INTERMITTENTLY STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS FROM 1-30 MPH OR FOLLOWING A STOP. THIS CONTINUED TO INCREASE TO THE POINT THAT THE CAR STALLED EVERY FEW FEET. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO FORD DEALER FOR THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT AND REPROGRAM. DEALER CHARGE FOR LABOR AND PARTS WAS $ 732.00. *TR
WAS DRIVING THEN FELT "BACK FIRE" THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULDN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL. NEVER LOST CONTROL JUST HIT BRAKES TO TURN ON ROAD AND PULL OVER. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND REVVED THE ENGINE. WENT ANOTHER MILE AND IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BECAUSE I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD GOTTEN BAD GAS BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. TAKING IT TOO DEALERSHIP FRIDAY JUNE 6TH. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO A MEETING 05/31/13 IN WETUMPKA AL. MY 09 ESCAPE STALL WHEN EXITING OFF THE FREEWAY. I PLACE IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT AND IT CUT OFF AGAIN. SO I RESTARTED FOR THE 3RD TIME AND HELD MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME , TRYING TO PUT IT IN DRIVE AND PRESSING THE GAS FAST. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AFTER THE MEETING WAS OVER I MADE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE SAID I HAD TO LEAVE BECAUSE IT WAS BUSY THEY WILL CHECK ON IT MONDAY BUT THEY DID CALL ME SAT. 06 01 13 AND SAID IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND DON'T KNOW WHEN THE NEW PART WILL BE RELEASED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE BECAUSE IT WAS BEING RE-MANUFACTURED. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000. UPDATED 07/23/13*LJ
ON FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2013 WHILE I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF INTO A BANK AND TURN MY CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. I PULLED OUT INTO THE STREET AND INTO THE LEFT LANE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. HALF WAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE STALLED/STOPPED ACCELERATING AGAIN. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE TWO WEEKS AGO. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED IN TO THE SHOP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS, SURPRISE SURPRISE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. AFTER READING THROUGH HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS IN JUST THE LAST TWO WEEKS REGARDING THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE, I AM CONFUSED AS TO WHY THERE IS NO ACTION BEING TAKEN BY THE NHTSA? SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL OR SOMETHING? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MY CAR IS GOING TO BE SAFE TO DRIVE EVEN AFTER THEY REPLACE THIS PART. SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE DONE HERE. THIS ISSUE NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE PUBLIC SAFETY, BUT MY MAJOR INVESTMENT SEEMS TO BE TURNING INTO A DISASTER. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY. *TR
WE HAD SEEN SOME ISSUES WITH POWER WHEN ACCELERATING, BUT WAS MINOR UNTIL MAY 30TH, 2013. WE WERE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE ENGINE "BOGGED DOWN" AND DIDN'T ACCELERATE. THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD. WE HAD JUST FILLED UP AND ORIGINALLY BELIEVED IT WAS BAD GAS. IT HAPPENED ABOUT 4 MORE TIMES AS WE GOT HOME (ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND LITTLE WRENCH ICON SHOWS UP ON BOTTOM LEFT OF DASH WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS). IT DID THIS ABOUT 5 MORE TIMES ON OUR DRIVE HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHICH INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. I THEN GOOGLED: THROTTLE 2009. THE FIRST THING THAT APPEARED WAS THE FORD ESCAPE AND THE ARTICLES DESCRIBED WHAT I WAS DEALING WITH TOO. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL TODAY, FORD IS RELEASING A (NEW ENGINEERED DESIGNED) THROTTLE BODY THAT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE JUNE 6TH AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR SO THAT I DON'T GET ANOTHER BAD PART. I FIND IT RIDICULOUS THAT THEY ARE BASICALLY ADMITTING TO PRODUCING A DEFECTIVE PART, BUT I HAVE TO PAY $400 TO FIX MY CAR...WHILE WAITING A WEEK FOR THE NEW PART TO COME IN. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2009 CERTIFIED USED FORD ESCAPE LIMITED IN OCTOBER 2012. IN FEBRUARY 2013, MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO STUTTER WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT STOP LIGHTS, ETC. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE AND IT WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. IN MAY, MY VEHICLE STARTED EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS EXCEPT THIS TIME IT ACTUALLY BEGAN TO SHUT OFF WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT STOP SIGNS AND STOP LIGHTS. ONE DAY I WAS DRIVING AND IT BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, STUTTER TO THE POINT OF JERKING, AND IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I ENDED UP HAVING TO PULL OVER, EVEN ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER IT SHUT OFF, IT WOULD TURN ON AFTER LEAVING IT OFF FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK INTO THE SAME DEALER THAT REPAIRED IT IN FEBRUARY BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE BUT WORSE. THEY EXAMINED IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. I PAID $106 TO HAVE IT EXAMINED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $508 TOTAL TO REPAIR AND THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK-ORDER AND WOULD NOT BE FOR TWO WEEKS. I CALLED BACK AND ADVISED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP THAT I WANTED TO PROCEED WITH HAVING MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. WE GOT OFF THE PHONE AND LATER THAT AFTERNOON, I RECEIVED A CALL STATING THAT PART WAS NEVER ORDERED AND THAT I NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE PART IN ADVANCE, $172. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND SAW THAT FORD HAS HAD MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THROTTLE BODIES. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH I'M PAYING FOR A REPAIR THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR TWO WEEKS BECAUSE IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE DEALER OFFERED NO OTHER ALTERNATIVES OUTSIDE OF RENTING A CAR WHICH IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE FOR A TWO WEEK RENTAL. THANKFULLY, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO BORROW A CAR. *TR
THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, WRENCH ICON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR LOST ALL MOBILITY AND USE OF GAS PEDDLE. LUCKILY WAS ON A STREET AND NOT A HIGHWAY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF THE CAR APPEARED TO BE WORKING NORMALLY. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER THE CONDITION REPEATED ITSELF, AND THEN ONCE AGAIN SEVERAL MINUTES LATER AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN. TOOK CAR TO GET ERROR CODE AND RETURNED A P2112 ERROR CODE REFERENCING THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT, AND COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS WRECK IF AT HIGH SPEED. OR INTERSECTION. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. *TR
I DRIVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE AUTOMATIC WITH A V6 ENGINE. ON SUNDAY, MAY 26, 2013 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:00 AM, I WAS DRIVING AT 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE 10 WEST. SUDDENLY, I HEARD A SINGLE CLICK SOUND. THE WRENCH WAS ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH BOARD AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPED WORKING. NO MATTER WHAT I DID, NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS TERRIFIED THAT I WOULD BE REAR ENDED BY THE CARS BEHIND ME FOR SLOWING DOWN SUDDENLY, SO I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND MOVED TO THE INTERSTATE MEDIAN. I TURNED MY TRUCK OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTED IT. I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED HOME WITH NO FURTHER ISSUE. THIS WHOLE INCIDENT CAME WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, CRUISE CONTROL SET AT APPROXIMATELY 53 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND RESTARTED. AT THE TIME IT LOST POWER, A WARNING LIGHT APPEARED, WHICH INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN. I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES BETWEEN THE TIME OF THE FIRST INCIDENT AND WHEN I COULD GET IT TO A MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME ACTION 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES IN THAT SPAN. AFTER THE THIRD INCIDENT, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT APPEARED AND REMAINS CONTINUOUSLY LIT WHILE THE ENGINE IS ON. THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH IS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH FORD. THERE IS CURRENTLY A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THE PART WITH NO ANTICIPATED RELEASE DATE. THE POWER LOSS OCCURS AT RANDOM TIMES, AND ON ONE OCCASION HAPPENED WHILE I WAS CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND WITH NO ANTICIPATED RELEASE DATE FOR THE PART, COMPLETELY UNUSABLE. FORD CLEARLY KNOWS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND THEIR INABILITY TO DEAL WITH IT IS GOING TO LEAD TO SOMEONE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. *TR
I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, APPROXIMATELY 6:30AM, GOING 70 IN A 65 ZONE. THE RADIO WAS ON, SO I HEARD NOTHING STRANGE, BUT SUDDENLY, WITH NO WARNING, MY CAR LOST THE POWER MOVING IT FORWARD. I DID NOT LOSE CONTROL OF MY 09 ESCAPE. THE STEERING REMAINED OK, AS DID THE BRAKES, BUT MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER IN THE ENGINE TO KEEP MY CAR MOVING FORWARD. AS IF MAYBE I HAD RUN OUT OF GAS - BUT THERE WAS NO SPUTTERING AND I WAS NOT LOW ON GAS. I KEPT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL THINKING MAYBE THERE WAS TRASH IN MY GAS LINE, BUT THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE WAY MY VEHICLE BEHAVED. I WAS SLOWING DOWN FAST, BUT COULD STEER MYSELF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A MINUTE OR 2, AND TRIED TO START AGAIN. IT TOOK A MINUTE TO CATCH, BUT IT FINALLY DID AND I DROVE OFF. 5 MILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY, IT DID IT AGAIN. AGAIN, I STRUGGLED TO THE SHOULDER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED. I WAS 50 MILES FROM HOME IN A RATHER REMOTE AREA AND I WAS SCARED. AGAIN, I STARTED MY ESCAPE - AGAIN IT TOOK A MINUTE, BUT IT DID START AND I MADE IT ALL THE WAY HOME WITHOUT ANOTHER PROBLEM. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND MY CAR HIS BEEN THERE 36 DAYS. I CALL EVERY OTHER WEEK TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE PART. THEY NEVER HAVE ANY NEWS OF THE PART COMING. THEY HAVE GIVEN ME AN EXCELLENT LOANER CAR TO DRIVE, BUT THIS IS NOT RIGHT. THEY TELL ME 1000'S OF PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PART GO BAD ACROSS THE US. WE'RE ALL WAITING. JUST THIS MORNING, THEY SAY THEY NOW HAVE A SHIPPING NUMBER FOR THE PART WE ALL NEED. THEY TELL ME 7 OF US ARE WAITING FOR THE SAME PART HERE IN MY SMALL TOWN. IN MAY 2013, MY ESCAPE LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE IN MY HOME NEIGHBORHOOD. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID I SHOULD SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. I DID AND IT WORKED FINE. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO BE EVALUATED AND FORD SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THAT ISSUE. THEN ON JULY 13, 2013, I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION ABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE CAR LOST TOTAL CONTROL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2012, I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE COMPLETELY GONE WHEN I WAS GOING 40 MPH IN A CROWDED INTERSECTION. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT INTO A RITE AID PARKING LOT AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP (MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY). THEY TOLD ME TO TRY TO RESTART IT AND SEE IF THE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED OFF. IT DID NOT AND I COULD NOT RESTART THE CAR, SO I HAD IT TOWED IN. THEY TOLD ME THE BATTERY HAD DIED AND ONCE IT WAS REPLACED THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE THROTTLE ISSUE SO THEY COULDN'T FIX THAT PER MY WARRANTY. THEN 3 WEEKS AGO, I GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY. AND ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PLACES TO PULL OFF THIS PARTICULAR ROAD AND THE SPEED LIMIT IS HIGH. I GOT HALF IN AND HALF OUT OF THE LANE AND RESTARTED IT. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK HOME AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND APPARENTLY ARE WILLING TO FIX IT WITHOUT THE WRENCH LIGHT NOW BECAUSE I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (65000); HOWEVER THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THIS SAME "NATIONAL BACKORDER PROBLEM" OCCURRED TWO YEARS AGO WHEN MY TRANSMISSION IN THE SAME CAR QUIT WORKING AND I WAS IN A RENTAL CAR FOR 7 WEEKS! THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED 3 TIMES NOW, AND THEY HAVE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT STILL NO SIGNS OF A PART. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT THIS PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER WITH NO DELIVERY DATE IN SIGHT. FORD HAS BEEN GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND SINCE LAST WEEK REGARDING THE PART AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE. WHILE LOOKING UP THE PART ON THE INTERNET, I NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT FORDS (ESPECIALLY ESCAPES) HAVING THIS ISSUE. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL? OF COURSE MY WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT AND I WILL HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET WITH THE REPAIRS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER THE PULLEY WAS REPLACED THE CAR WOULD IDLE HIGH AND THEN STARTED JERKING AS IF IT WANTED TO STALL, TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CODES, FINALLY HAD THE TECH DRIVE WITH ME AND HE FELT THE JERKING. AFTER THREE VISITS FOR THIS, IN NOVEMBER 2012 AT 50,000 I WAS AM TOLD THE COIL PACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, NOW AT 55, 063 MILES I AM TOLD IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? BOTH VCT SOLENOIDS WERE REPLACED. MY 4 YR OLD CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME. 2ND INCIDENT TOOK PLACE SUNDAY, 09/08/2013. WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH AND MY CAR CUT OFF!!! NO LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL THE ENGINE STOPPED, AND AT THAT TIME THE OIL & BATTERY LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO COAST INTO THE MEDIAN. MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP COULD NOT SEE ME UNTIL THIS THURSDAY, 09/12/2013. SO THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED AT THIS TIME. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY 2 FORD DEALERSHIPS THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE FULL THROTTLE BODY. VERY SCARY & VERY, VERY DANGEROUS!!! I AM NOT DRIVING MY CAR. MILEAGE IS 34,791. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I SENT AN EMAIL TO FORD CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS &HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY ROAD AND THE ENGINE RANDOMLY DIED WHEN I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40MPH. ALL THE LIGHTS AND RADIO/ELECTRONICS REMAINED ON (NEVER LOST TIME OR PRESET RADIO STATIONS, HEADLIGHTS, DASH, ETC) BUT AS I TRIED TO GIVE IT SOME GAS, IT WOULDN'T RESPOND. WHEN I REALIZED THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE RPMS WERE AT 0 AND THE BATTERY LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT WAS ON. NO CODES THROWN OR CHECK ENGINE OR WRENCH LIGHT. AS I PULLED OVER AND PUT IT IN PARK, I ATTEMPTED TO START IT, AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG. DIDN'T "COUGH" OR CRANK AND CRANK...FIRED JUST LIKE IT WAS BRAND NEW. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP AND THEY CHECKED NORMAL ISSUES THAT WOULD CAUSE THE ESCAPE TO RANDOMLY SHUT OFF AND DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. THEN I DID RESEARCH AND DETERMINED THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UPON THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES, OF WHICH THE MOST RECENT WAS IN JULY AND SEPTEMBER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UP A STEEP HILL ON A BLIND CORNER IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD TODAY WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME MY ESCAPE SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING. IT STALLED FIVE OTHER TIMES IN THE PAST, EACH AS I CAME TO A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT. THE INCIDENTS ARE COMPLETELY RANDOM WITH NO WARNING, SO I HAVE NO IDEA IF NEXT TIME WILL BE AT A RED LIGHT OR ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH. WHEN IT SHUTS OFF I NOTICED THAT THE DASH FLASHES THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHTS, BUT THE BATTERY IS NEW AND THE OIL IS FINE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN I'M IDLING IN BELOW FREEZING WEATHER THE ENGINE WILL SHUDDER, SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY, BUT EVENTUALLY STOPS WHEN I START MOVING AGAIN. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2009 FORD ESCAPE FROM SUNCOAST CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE ON 5/7/13. MY SALESMAN [XXX]TOOK ME ON TEST DRIVE IN THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAD 79818 MILES ON IT. RIGHT AWAY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PUTT-PUTT, AND ACT LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE, YET THE RPM SHOT UP. IT ENDED UP CUTTING OFF ON US AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE DEALERSHIP. ROB MANAGED TO GET IT BACK STARTED AND TOLD ME HE WILL HAVE SERVICE DEPT CHECK IT OUT WHILE I WORKED ON PAPERWORK WITH FINANCE GUY. FROM MAY 7TH UNTIL THE VEHICLE FINALLY BROKEN DOWN FOR GOOD ON JUNE 27TH, THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS, AND CUT OFF 5X SINCE MY PURCHASE. I CALLED [XXX] AND TOLD HIM THAT CAR IS STILL NOT RUNNING WELL AND HE CAME TO MY JOB AND PICK UP VEHICLE FOR SERVICE. HE BROUGHT IT BACK WITH A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH AND EVEN SAID DON'T WORRY, IT HAS A WARRANTY. TWO WEEKS AGO I CALLED AND SPOKE TO [XXX], THE USED VEHICLE MANAGER AND TOLD HIM THAT THE VEHICLE HAD CUT OFF ON ME AT LEAST (4) TIMES AND ALTHOUGH THEY GAVE IT A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH, I AM STILL CONVINCED THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG. HE TOLD ME TO BRING VEHICLE BACK IN. I KNOW THAT A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT GET UP TO 4-5RPM'S, ESPECIALLY A NEWER MODEL VEHICLE, SO I DECIDED THAT I WANTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER OR ANYBODY ELSE BECAUSE I DIDN'T TRUST THEM TO TELL ME THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT WAS REALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T MAKE THE TIME TO GET THE CAR CHECKED OUT AND THE RESULT IS THAT THE VEHICLE IS BROKE DOWN, INCAPABLE OF NOT MOVING EXCEPT FOR A FEW FEET BEFORE CUTTING OFF. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 6/27 I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPT THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE, AND A NEW THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER WITH A MONTH WAIT AND THAT OVER 900 OF THEM WERE BEING REQUESTED AT THIS TIME AND THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD HAS NOT PUT A RECALL ON THEM. STOPPED AT LIGHT, WENT TO ACCECLERATE TO GO ON GREEN LIGHT AND HAD NO ACCELERATION. TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND IT RESTARTED, WENT IMMEDIATELY TO FORD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THEN WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF ALL TOGETHER. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN. FOUND OUT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A RECURRENCE ON FORD ESCAPES. *TR
AFTER BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WITHOUT INCIDENT, THEN PUTTING VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. THE WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN, ALMOST TO THE POINT OF FEELING LOCKED UP. AFTER PULLING OVER AND CHECKING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF, THEN TURNED BACK ON IN A MOMENT AND THE WHEEL FREED UP AND NORMAL TURNING RESUMED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME, A FEW MILES AWAY, WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ABOUT THE 2008 AND 2009 ESCAPE ON THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE WITH EACH REPORT HAVING ALMOST THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AND "SOLUTION", OF TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN.
