I HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED YESTERDAY. WHEN I WOULD TRY AND ACCELERATE MY CAR WOULD SPUTTER AND GO INTO LIMP MODE. THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO ON. THE FIRST EVENT WAS AT ABOUT 25,000 MILES. IT OCCURRED AGAIN AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. THIS TIME THERE WAN NO IGNORING IT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE AFTER I SHUT IT OFF AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
ENTERING INTERSTATE, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 40 MPH. CODE READER SAYS THROTTLE CONTROL STUCK OPEN? *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND AS THE CAR GOT TO ABOUT 5 MPH, IT WENT INTO WHAT IS REFERRED TO AS THE "LIMP MODE." WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE ENGINE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON, THE ENGINE IDLED AT ABOUT 800 RPM, AND IT TOOK ABOUT A MINUTE OR MORE FOR THE CAR TO "LIMP" OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTARTED IT. IT THEN WORKED FINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHICH WAS LESS THAN A MILE FROM WHERE THIS HAPPENED. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. NOW IN JUNE ( SEVERAL MONTHS LATER), WE HAD AN INSTANCE WHERE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND SAW YOU WERE INVESTIGATING. I PRINTED OUT THE ARTICLE, TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND SAID THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A CIRCUIT PROBLEM, BUT THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND IT MAY TAKE "WEEKS" FOR THEM TO GET THE PART. WE DROVE THE CAR ONCE MORE AND THE SAME " LIMP MODE" KICKED IN 3 TIMES IN A 3 MILE TRIP. WHILE TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE SEEMS TO CLEAR THE PROBLEM, THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THE VEHICLE GOES INTO THE LIMP MODE WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO ACCELERATE THE CROSS A ROAD, ETC. WHILE MY VEHICLE IS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE REPAIRED SATISFACTORILY, THIS IS POTENTIALLY AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION AND I AM REPORTING IT SO THAT YOU CAN TAKE IT INTO CONSIDERATION IN YOUR INVESTIGATION. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JULY 2008, ACCORDING TO THE STICKER ON THE DOOR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND STOP. I WAS ABLE TO CRANK THE VEHICLE UP AND DRIVE A FEW FEET BEFORE IT STARTED BACK UP AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO AN ADVANCED AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE THEY PULLED THE CHECK ENGINE ERROR CODE AND IT INDICATED THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. I AM ABLE TO DRIVE IT CURRENTLY, BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT THE THROTTLE WILL STICK JUST AS I'M ATTEMPTING TO CROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION. *TR
IN SEPTEMBER OF 2010, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MY FORD ESCAPE WOULD COME ON AND OFF, ON AND OFF. SOME TIMES IT WOULD STAY ON FOR WEEKS AND THEN JUST DISAPPEAR. SOMETIMES IT WOULD STAY ON FOR A DAY OR TWO AND THEN DISAPPEAR. AND WHENEVER I NEED TO TAKE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NEVER ON. PEP BOYS COULD NEVER FIND ANYTHING WRONG BECAUSE THEY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NEVER ON, AND NO CODES APPEARED. WHEN PEP BOYS DROVE THE CAR, IT NEVER STOPPED ON THEM. IN APRIL OF 2012, AS MY SON WAS HOME FROM COLLEGE AND DRIVING THE CAR, IT SHUT OFF ON HIM ON THE FREEWAY ON MANY OCCASIONS. HE WOULD EXPLAIN TO ME THAT THE ENGINE WENT OFF AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. HE WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND EITHER RESTART IT OR WAIT AN HOUR FOR IT TO START SOMETIMES. THIS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AT FAST AND SLOW SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND MAINTENANCE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. THE CAR BEGAN STOPPING ON ME WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS STATED ABOVE. EVERY TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO PEP BOYS, THEY WOULD DRIVE IT FOR HOURS AND IT NEVER STOPPED ON THEM. ON APRIL 29, 2012, I TOOK THE CAR IN TO PEP BOYS, AND THE STOP ENGINE CODE READ THAT THE CAM SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I GOT THE CAR BACK ON MAY14, 2012, AND IT IMMEDIATELY STOPPED ON ME. THEN IT RAN GOOD FOR TWO WEEKS, THEN IT BEGAN STOPPING AGAIN ON A REGULAR BASIS. ON JUNE 21, 2012, I TOOK THE CAR IN AND THE CODES READ THROTTLE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE AND I GOT THE CAR BACK ON JUNE, 29, 2013. I HAVE SPEND OVER $3500.00 ON THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD LIKE TO GET REIMBURSED. ONE THING TO NOT IS THAT THE ORIGINAL CHECK LIGHT BEGAN TO COME ON AROUND AUGUST OF 2011 AND THERE NEVER WAS A CLEAR DIAGNOSIS UNTIL MAY AND JUNE OF 2013. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. CAR SUDDENLY SEEMED TO LOSE POWER, BUT RETAINED POWER STEERING FUNCTION. WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BUT MIGHT HAVE HAD MINIMAL POWER. COASTED ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC AND USED BRAKES TO STOP. WRENCH SHAPED LIGHT ON DASH LIGHTED. TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS. VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR NEXT 90 MILES AND THE NEXT DAY. DEALER EVALUATED THE PROBLEM AND SAYS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACEMENT. THERE ARE OTHER REPORTS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON YOUR WEBSITE. ALSO REPORTS OF POSSIBLE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BY NHTSB AND AUTOMOTIVE PRESS. IT IS A SERIOUS FAILURE AT SPEED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION. WILL THE DEALER COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR IF THERE IS A SUBSEQUENT RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT? *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE ENGINE SEEMED TO HAVE STALLED. I DID HAVE SLIGHT FORWARD MOMENTUM THAT WAS JERKY AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. THE CAR DID START AND NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO MY SUBDIVISION WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT ONCE I TURNED INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THE THROTTLE IS CONSIDERED AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THE BILL WAS APPROXIMATELY $670. I WAS NOT TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON INCIDENT IN MY MODEL AND YEAR OF CAR. *TR
I HAD TO GET THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED ON MY 2009 ESCAPE BECAUSE THE CAR ENGINE WOULD DISENGAGE AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD STOP WORKING. THE CAR WOULD COAST TO A STOP AND I WOULD HAVE TO SHUT IT OFF AND CUT IT BACK ON TO GET IT TO RE-ENGAGE. THIS HAPPENED EVER COUPLE OF DAYS FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAS HAD MY CAR FOR ALMOST A MONTH AND CLAIMS THAT THERE WAS A BAD PRODUCTION BATCH THAT CAUSED A NATIONAL BACKLOG OF PARTS. THE CALL CENTER HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE AND FORD IS CLAIMING THAT I HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR THE PART EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR NEARLY A MONTH. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A 2 LANE ROAD AT 35 MPH WITH MY YOUNG DAUGHTER AND FRIEND IN THE CAR WHEN THE CAR RAPIDLY DECELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY TO AROUND 5 MPH. IT SPUTTERED AND THE "THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN" LIGHT LIT ON THE DASH. FORTUNATELY, THE TRAFFIC WAS MOVING SLOW ENOUGH THAT I DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND CRAWLED TO THE INTERSECTION WHERE I TURNED ONTO A SERVICE ROAD AND PARKED. I WAITED 5 MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND MADE IT HOME SAFELY 3 MILES AWAY. I WILL SEE WHAT FORD DEALER HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. I HAVE THIS CAR NOW FOR LESS THAN FOUR YEARS AND HAVE ONE INCIDENT AFTER ANOTHER. I HAVE PURPOSELY PURCHASED AMERICAN MADE CARS OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS, BUT DON'T SEEM TO HAVE LUCK. I MAY HAVE TO GO BACK TO FOREIGN BRANDS. *TR
CAR IS TRAVELING IN 25-30 MPH RANGE AND SHUTS DOWN. ALL LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD COME ON. COAST THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. PUT IN PARK AND START UP AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN LAST TWO DAYS. THIS SAME SITUATION HAPPENED ON EXPRESSWAY GOING 60 MPH ON 01/03/2011. HAD TO BE TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. AT THAT TIME A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND MODULE WAS INSTALLED. *TR
ON APRIL 19, 2013,I WAS DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT FROM MY HOME. I STOPPED AT THE EXIT TO WAIT FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR. I GAVE IT GAS IT JERKED AND I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR. THE WRENCH ICON CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO BASICALLY CRAWL BACK TO MY HOME. IT FELT LIKE IT WOULD IF U PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WHERE IT WOULD JUST COAST SLOWLY. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED THE CAR AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL. IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER & I TOOK IT TO FORD. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG (NO CODE ON COMPUTER). THAT VISIT COST ME $497.89 THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON 06-20-13 AGAIN DRIVING LOCALLY MAYBE 25 MI/HR.& TOOK TO FORD. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I SEE IT'S A COMMON PROB. I HAD THEM CHG THE THROTTLE BODY. (MY BOTHER IS A MECHANIC) OF COURSE MY WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THIS PROB. THAT VISIT WAS ANOTHER $368.49. THIS CAR HAS 23K MI ON IT. I HOPE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED. *TR
FORD ESCAPE- PROBLEM WITH "CHECK FUEL INLET" LIGHT AND "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. I TOOK MY CAR (ORIGINAL OWNER) IN THE FIRST TIME AND PAID CLOSE TO $500 TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK RUN TO "FIX" THE ISSUE, ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REOCCUR DAYS LATER. THE "CHECK FUEL INLET" LIGHT USUALLY COMES AND GOES, BUT RECENTLY HAS REMAINED STEADY. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WILL BE OUT OF MY POCKET. I GOGGLED " FORD CHECK FUEL INLET" AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. EVERYONE KEEPS TAKING THEIR FORD ESCAPE IN TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED, ONLY TO FIND THE LIGHT RETURNS LATER AND THEY ARE PAYING ADDITIONAL FEES FOR MORE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIRS. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. WHEN I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR CO. ABOUT MY CONCERN, THE MAN SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO EXCEPT MAKE RECORD OF MY COMPLAINT. 2009 FORD ESCAPE WITH 69,282 MILES SPONTANEOUSLY GOES INTO LIMP MODE, CAUSING DECELERATION IN TRAFFIC. CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL IT IS STOPPED, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, AND FUEL PUMP RESTART BUTTON PUSHED. THE CAR WILL THEN START AND CAN BE DRIVEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES NOW IN THE PAST 12-18 MONTHS. IT HAS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED (60-70 MPH), CITY SPEEDS (35-40 MPH), AND TODAY AT 15 MPH GOING DOWN MY STREET. IT HAS HAPPENED EACH TIME DRIVING ON SMOOTH, PAVED ROADS. ONE INCIDENT WAS DRIVING HOME AT APPROX. 6:45 PM ON SMOOTH, PAVED RURAL HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH AFTER 15-20 MINUTES DRIVING. HAD TO CALL TOW TRUCK AND HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM. ONE INCIDENT WAS NOV 2012 WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH, PAVED HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 60 MPH AFTER DRIVING APPROX. 2 HOURS. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCES WERE 4-4-13 AT 6:45 PM AFTER DRIVING 55-60 MPH FOR 20 MINUTES ON PAVED ROAD. NEXT INCIDENT 4/5/13 AT 11:30 A.M. DRIVING 15 MPH ON RESIDENTIAL STREET, ENGINE COLD. TODAY THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND DESPITE STOPPING THE CAR, PUSHING THE FUEL PUMP RESET, AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT STILL WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN. I WILL NOW HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND, ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, REPAIRS PAID FOR AT MY EXPENSE. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL AND THERE NEEDS TO BE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HAS GENERATED MANY COMPLAINTS. THE SITUATION IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR ON THE INTERSTATE. AN UNRELIABLE CAR IS NOT WORTH OWNING. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD AND IT WILL BE MY LAST. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER FORD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING A RECALL AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO FORD DEALER DUE TO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STUCK ON. DIAGNOSTICS PULLED 2 CODES, P0011 & P0012. THESE 2 CODES ARE MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS!! BOTH SOLENOIDS NEED TO BE REPLACED, AND POSSIBLY HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH CYLINDER HEADS AND CAM SHAFTS IF HEAD AND CAMSHAFTS SHOW WEAR = THUS A VERY VERY EXPENSIVE ENGINE REPAIR COST FOR ME!! THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS ONLY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY UP TO 60,000 MILES: MY ESCAPE HAD ONLY 63,296 MILES ON 4-2-13, THE DAY I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I'M CLIMBING UP THE TREE AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY AN FEEL I HAVE A "LEMON" FORD VEHICLE!! HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR PAST WEEK BECAUSE THE PART IS ON "EMERGENCY BACKORDER" FROM NATIONAL SUPPLIER. I HAVE FILED COMPLAINT WITH FORD AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A SUPERVISOR WOULD CONTACT ME...HAS BEEN 1 WK AND THEY HAVE NOT CALLED BACK. HAVE CALLED 3 TIMES TOTAL. DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO PAY FOR RENTAL...SO I AM FOOTING THE BILL FOR THAT AT THIS TIME. THIS ISSUE NEEDS INVESTIGATION...IF A PAST IS ON "EMERGENCY BACKORDER" THERE MUST BE A NATIONAL PROBLEM WITH THIS THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE...IT IS DANGEROUS. WHILE OPERATING MY VEHICLE, A 2009 FORD ESCAPE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. BECAUSE OF THIS I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, IN THE MIDST OF TRAFFIC, AND TURN THE CAR OFF. UPON STARTING THE CAR BACK UP THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BACK TO NORMAL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY TWO MINUTES LATER THE WHEEL LOCKED UP AGAIN. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE TO FIX IT, IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS COST ME APPROXIMATELY $1,400.00 TO REPLACE. I HAVE DONE A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AND HAVE THAT FOUND THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON ISSUE. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RECALL IN RESPONSE TO THIS ONGOING ISSUE? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAN NOT CONTINUE TO GO UNNOTICED.
WAS DRIVING AT A CONSISTENT SPEED DOWN A FAIRLY BUSY ROAD. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL AND I ALMOST HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND BRAKING HAD NO EFFECT. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF ACCELERATION THE CAR SEEMED TO LOSE POWER TO THE DRIVETRAIN AND WAS UNRESPONSIVE TO ME PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT GAME ON. I COULD ONLY COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT THE SHOULDER WAS NOT WIDE ENOUGH SO PART OF MY CAR WAS STILL IN THE LANE AND THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO SWERVE OUT OF MY WAY. THE WRENCH LIGHT HAD DISAPPEARED SO MY MECHANIC COULD NOT PULL ANY CODES, BUT BELIEVES IT IS A DEFECTIVE SENSOR IN THE THROTTLE BODY. FOR THE CAR TO SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD UNCONTROLLABLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, NO MATTER HOW SHORT OF TIME. I WON'T DRIVE UNTIL THE NEW PART ARRIVES, WHICH COULD BE A WEEK AS I LIVE IN HAWAII. ALSO, FORD IS REFUSING TO PAY FOR IT AS THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS WEEKEND I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPES, BUT AS AN OWNER I WAS NEVER ONCE WARNED OF IT. DRIVING AT AROUND 70MPH AND I NOTICED A LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH. THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE ACCELERATION. I HAD TO PULL OVER, STOP THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AND IT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. I TOOK IT SOMEWHERE AND WAS ABLE TO GET A FAULT CODE (P2111). THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS! IT WAS NOT ONLY SCARY BUT VERY DANGEROUS. STEERING BECOMES SO TIGHT THAT ANY ADJUSTMENT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE AND DRIVER IS AT THE MERCY OF SPEED UNTIL ABLE TO STOP. THAT WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE 2ND AND 3RD INCIDENTS OCCURRED TODAY, APRIL 24 2013. VEHICLE AGAIN STALLED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT AN INTERSECTION. WRENCH SYMBOL AND ENGINE SYMBOL LIT UP IN DISPLAY AREA. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, SHUT OFF VEHICLE, AND THEN IT STARTED AGAIN AND RAN. ABOUT 2 MINUTES LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. AGAIN PULLED OFF THE MAIN ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. ON 2/9/2013 I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT 25MPH WHEN I LOST MY POWER STEERING. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG THEY SAID IT CORRECTED ITSELF. I TOOK THE CAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON 2/18/2013. I RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND TOLD ME THE SENSOR IN THE STEERING CONTROL ASSEMBLY WAS ONLY OPERATING INTERMITTENTLY. THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE MODULE AND HAD TO ALIGN THE VEHICLE. THIS COST $1256.22. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE PART AS IT WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. I CHECKED WITH ANOTHER GARAGE IN ANOTHER TOWN AND WAS TOLD THAT HE HAD JUST GOT THE SAME COMPLAINT ON ANOTHER 2009 FORD ESCAPE. HE SAID THAT THE NATIONAL BACKORDER INDICATED THIS WAS A PREVALENT PROBLEM AND HE FELT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE WERE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. WHEN THE STEERING SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING, IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP IN CLEVELAND, OH. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED, THE STEERING WAS EASIER, BUT THERE WAS NOTICEABLE MOVEMENT IN THE WHEEL WHILE STILL PARKED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY WERE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE REP STATED THAT IT WOULD REQUIRE A STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT TO FIX FOR APPROX $1500. I WAS QUIT SURPRISED THAT THE SERVICE REP WAS SO FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM UNTIL IN TALKING WITH THE REP. THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD ANOTHER ESCAPE IN THEIR SERVICE DEPT. AND THAT VEHICLE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAD FAILED AND IT REQUIRES A NEW STEERING COLUMN ALSO. THE REP. ALSO ELUDED TO IT AS BEING A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM. DOESN'T MATTER IF CAR IS COLD OR WARM, AND DOESN'T MATTER IF IT IS SHUT OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS OR LONGER FOR THE PROBLEM TO CORRECT ITSELF. EFFECT IS AS IF THERE'S NO POWER STEERING, DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. (I UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S NOT ACTUALLY POWER STEERING, THERE'S NO FLUID, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO CALL IT.) STEERING WHEEL HAS STARTED TO RATTLE AND VIBRATE WHILE IDLING. DEALERSHIP SAID COMPUTER SENSOR WAS OUT OF CALIBRATION, RE-CALIBRATED, BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY SAY NEEDS WHOLE NEW STEERING COLUMN, A $1500 FIX. GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM OTHER REPAIR SHOP, SAME CONCLUSION. I KEEP UP ON ALL MAINTENANCE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A REPAIR ON THIS VEHICLE BEFORE. THEY ARE STILL TRYING BUT WHEN A WOMEN (MYSELF) MENTIONS THROTTLE BODY THEY TRY TO SAY NO THAT COULDN'T BE IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME UNRESPONSIVE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED THEN OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,566. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST INCIDENT I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE DOWN A TWO LANE ROAD WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING THE PROBLEM STOPPED. AFTER A FEW WEEKS IT STARTED DOING IT MORE FREQUENT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A INTENSE SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL THE VEHICLE CAN'T EVEN BE DROVE NOW DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUES IT POSES. *TR
I HAD GONE OF THE GAS, THE VEHICLE WAS ROLLING AT ABOUT 5MILES/H, ENGINE RUNNING, TOWARDS AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I WANTED TO ACCELERATE. I STEPPED ON THE GAS, THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE STALLED AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. ALL ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON SIMILAR TO WHEN YOU INITIALLY INSERT THE KEY BEFORE STARTING THE CAR. THE ESCAPE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS PRESENT, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT OVERHEATING, IT HAD BEEN SERVICED AND HAD NO PRIOR ISSUES. AFTER PUTTING IT BACK INTO PARK I WAS THEN ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY ISSUES AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS FIRST HAPPENED IN JANUARY AND HAS SINCE OCCURRED TWICE AGAIN IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS, SLOW ROLLING AND THEN STALLING AFTER AN ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED A VAPOR LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK THAT EVAPORATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
