THIS HAPPENED FIRST ON JANUARY 7 AND AGAIN TODAY JJNUARY 10, 2013. THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPS. THE YELLOW WRENCH WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND INDICATES THROTTLE CONTROL PROBLEM. CAN TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART AND DRIVE NORMALLY. IT WAS VERY SCARY AS MY WIFE WAS LEFT IN THE DARK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET. IT SEEMS TO BE VERY INTERMIITENT. I HAVE READ OTHERS REPORTS OF THIS AND FORD APPARENTLY IS NOT TAKING ACTION. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH MANY HAVE REPORTED. *TR
VEHICLE WAS AT 55 MPH ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND JUST IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER. WENT INTO LIMP MODE. WHEN IT WAS PLACED IN PARK, SHUT OFF THEN RESTARTED, IT WOULD GAIN SPEED PROPERLY AGAIN. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INCIDENCES OF THIS HAPPENING SINCE JANUARY. ONCE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR INTERSECTION WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A WRECK. ANOTHER TIME WAS ON A MAIN HIGHWAY GOING UP THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN WITH NO SHOULDER TO PULL OFF ON AND TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. ONCE MORE WAS ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE GOING 70 MPH. DURING THE ENTIRETY OF ONE DAY, IT HAPPENED SIX SEPARATE TIMES. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, WE FOUND THAT THIS COULD VERY LIKELY BE A THROTTLE PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. *JB
FORD ESCAPE 2009 POWER STEERING FAILED. SINCE THEN FORD HAD A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING TO FIX PROBLEM. FORDS RECALL WAS TO UPDATE SOFTWARE IN THE COMPUTER BUT MADE NO PROVISION IF THE POWER STEERING SENSOR FAILS LATER. THIS MADE NO SENSE AND WHEN A SENSOR FAILS THE COST TO REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN MEDIUM TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE DIED AND THE CHECK-ENGINE-LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RE-START THE CAR. ONCE BACK ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE LATER. I STARTED THE CAR A SECOND TIME AND THE ENGINE ONCE AGAIN DIED. BY THIS TIME, TRAFFIC WAS BEGINNING TO BACK UP BEHIND ME AND I WAS ENTERING AN AREA WHERE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO ESCAPE TO IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CALLED FOR A TOW. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER SAID THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED, THEY HAD RECENTLY REPLACE A COUPLE OF OTHERS. COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $400. FORD SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I RETAINED THE FAILED PART AND HAVE IT AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS LOST ALL POWER WHILE IN MOTION. THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT COMES ON. I CAN RESTART IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL. THERE IS NO TROUBLE CODE INDICATED ON MY OBDII. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 13 TIMES IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW HERE IN SOUTH KOREA IN 2009 THROUGH THE MILITARY OVERSEAS CAR SALES PROGRAM AND IT IS FROM THE USA. AS CAN BE IMAGINED IT IS DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH THE KOREAN FORD DEALER BECAUSE OF THE LANGUAGE BARRIER, DISTANCE TO TRAVEL AND GETTING TIME OFF. I AM HOPING FOR A RECALL. IT HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE BECAUSE I AM CLOSE TO WORK AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT GETTING ON AN EXPRESSWAY. I HAVE ALSO JUST STARTED GETTING A P0012 TROUBLE CODE. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLASHED AND THE BUILD DATE IS AUGUST 2008.MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 16000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE STEERING BECAME JUMPY AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT NO CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,686.
WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE FROM DAY ONE. CURRENTLY THE BIG ISSUE IS THE THROTTLE BODY (WHICH I'VE SEEN HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH ALL THE FORD ESCAPES). ALSO THE MASS AIR FLOW SYSTEM, HEATING/AIR, AND SECURITY SYSTEM (ALSO IT HAS A PROBLEM NOT STARTING---NOT SURE IF THAT'S ALSO THROTTLE BODY). IS THIS BEING RECALLED? *TR
DRIVING AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THIS HAD HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY ON 11/25/12 AND THE DEALER REPAIR WAS REPLACING BOTH VCT SOLENOIDS AND VALVE COVER GASKETS. BOTH TIMES WHEN THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED AFTER 3-5 MINUTES. I WAS ABLE TO GO ANOTHER 6-8 MILES AND THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE SECOND TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN SECONDS LATER 8 OTHER LIGHTS WERE LIT ON THE DASH. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AFTER COASTING TO THE MEDIAN OF THE HIGHWAY (WAS IN LEFT LANE WITH TRAFFIC AT 55MPH) AND WAITED FOR A TOW FROM THE DEALER. NOW THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THIS REPAIR (REPLACEMENT OF THROTTLE BODY) IS NOT COVERED AS THE VEHICLE IS MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD (ACTUALLY, I'VE HAD IT FOR 44 MONTHS). I WANT FORD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AS IT SEEMS RATHER COMMON FROM WHAT I'M SEEING ON-LINE. *TR
WHEN I'M DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY SHUTS DOWN AND IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. RE-STARING THE VEHICLE FIXES THE PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN THE CENTER SOUTHBOUND LANE ON ROUTE 93 THROUGH THE THOMAS P. O'NEILL TUNNEL IN BOSTON WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, MY CAR STALLED. THE RED ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN DECELERATING. THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC AND I AM UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY TO HAVE AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. I GUIDED THE CAR TO THE RIGHT LANE (THERE ARE NO BREAKDOWN LANES IN THE TUNNEL). I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION. I HAVE READ THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE THROTTLE BODY ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. *TR
AS I WAS TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AT ABOUT 5MPH MY VEHICLE STALLED HALLWAY IN THE DRIVEWAY AND HALFWAY IN THE STREET. THE RED ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AT THAT TIME AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE INTO THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
CAR DECELERATED AND WRENCH SIGN CAME ON. HAD TO PUT CAR IN PARK TO GET IT TO RESTART. KEPT LOSING POWER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND SLOWED DOWN RAPIDLY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT NEVER STALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A FORD DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD AND HAS TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $350. A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, THERE JUST HASN'T BEEN A FORMAL RECALL YET. *TR
CAR STALLS WHEN STOPPING INTERMITTENT, WILL RESTART, NO ERROR LITES. TACH FLUCTUATES WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND IF NO STALL WILL SETTLE AROUND 7000. *TR
THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN. IT STARTED AND THEN STALLED AGAIN. WHEN TESTED BY MY MECHANIC THE CODE CAME UP AS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY I HAD HIM REPLACE THE PARTS AND HAD TO PAY $300.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
WAS ON ROAD.CAR JUST STOP ACCELERATING LIGHT CAME ON,PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. TURNED OFF. RESTARTED AND WORKED FIND FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. NOW HAVE TO DEAL WITH EVERY OTHER DAY. CALLED DEALERSHIP,AND THEY SAID I NEED TO PAY FOR REPAIR. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. HAS HAPPENED ALOT TO PEOPLE. *TR
MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE HAS ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. I TRY NOT TO MAKE LEFT TURNS DUE TO VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN WHEN I AM ACCELERATING, THE WRENCH COMES ON IN THE CAB WHEN I START EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. ALSO WHEN ON HIGHWAY WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR SLOWS DOWN LIE THE BRAKES ARE ON. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED END OF NOVEMBER, CAR STALLED WHILE TRAVELING ON RTE 7 IN CT. BROUGHT THE CAR TO FORD WHERE I WAS TOLD THE DIAGNOSTIC BOX REGISTERED THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE FUEL SENSORS. THE FUEL SENSORS WERE REPLACED AND THE CAR HAD NO ISSUE UNTIL APRIL. IN APRIL, CAR STALLED AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THE BOX DID NOT REGISTER ANYTHING. LAST WEEK (MAY 21ST), I LEFT MY OFFICE TO GO ON LUNCH BREAK AND THE CAR STALLED 4X. I DROVE (?) THE CAR STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER WHICH IS LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. THE CAR REGISTERED THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. SINCE THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE CARS, THE PART IS BACK ORDERED WITH AN UNKNOWN COMPLETION DATE. THE DEALER THEN CLEANED OUT MY CURRENT THROTTLE BODY AND TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A TEMPORARY 3 MOS FIX. THIS MORNING 5/29, THE CAR DIED AGAIN 4X ON I-95. 2 OF THE 4X IT STALLED, I WAS IN NEAR ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A WIDELY DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH FORD AND IT'S INCREDIBLE TO ME THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THESE CARS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. ON THE THIRD OCCASION, IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A THE HIGHWAY(WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR), THE CAR MADE AN ODD SOUND AND THEN THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING. MY CAR DID NOT JUST STOP, IT WAS STILL DRIVING AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE, BUT I COULD NOT GIVE THE CAR GAS. ONCE I PULLED OVER AND WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR CONTINUED TO TRY AND ACCELERATE. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND IT STILL CONTINUED. I HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN THE CAR OFF FOR IT TO STOP MOVING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY MY CAR STALLS OUT AND SHUTS OFF FORCING ME TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE KEY TO OFF POSITION, WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE ALLOWING ME TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND HAVING TO REV THE ENGINE FOR IT TO TURN COMPLETELY OVER. A COUPLE MILES DOWN THE ROAD WHILE COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING TO A STOP THE CAR DOES THIS AGAIN. THIS WILL HAPPEN ABOUT 4 TIMES A DAY WHILE DRIVING AND WILL HAPPEN FOR ABOUT 2-3 DAYS, THEN WILL RUN LIKE IT SHOULD WITHOUT INCIDENT. ABOUT 4-5 MONTHS LATER IT WILL START UP AGAIN, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL STALL OUT AND THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY WHILE DRIVING, FOR A FEW DAYS. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO AUTOSHOPS TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM. THIS NOT ONLY IS SCARY, BUT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE STALLED (ENGINE RUNNING BUT NO FORWARD MOTION AND NO RESPONSE TO ACCELERATOR) WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER HEAVY TRAFFIC. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY ONCOMING VEHICLES. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY BY DEALER. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THIS IS KNOWN DEFECT, VERY SIMILAR TO NHTSA ACTION # DP12006: "...VEHICLES THAT WERE DIAGNOSED AS FAILED THROTTLE BODIES WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P2111, THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN, AND P2222, THROTTLE BODY STUCK CLOSED. THE PETITIONER INDICATES THAT THE OWNERS OF BOTH VEHICLES REPORTED EXPERIENCING REPEATED INCIDENTS OF STALLING..." FORD HAS "RELEASED A NUMBER OF TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS THAT COVER A WIDE RANGE OF VEHICLES AND THROTTLE BODY ISSUES RELATED TO HESITATION AND STALLING, INCLUDING 08-18-2 AND 09-23-5." THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I CONTACTED FORD (BOTH CORPORATE AND THE DEALERSHIP) AND THEY HAVE INDICATED THAT THEY WILL NOT TAKE ACTION TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE UNTIL A RECALL IS INITIATED BY THE NHTSA. *TR
WHEN DRIVING MY CAR. IT CONSTANTLY WILL CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT ALSO TO JERK FORWARD AFTER IT IS PUT INTO DRIVE FROM A PARKED POSITION. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO SUNRISE FORD DEALERSHIP ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OVER 6 MONTHS. AND EVERY TIME THEY WILL NOT FIX IT AND SAY THAT IT DOES NOT DO THAT WHEN THEY TEST DRIVE IT. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS MORE, I HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON. I JUST WANT MY CAR FIX. I HAVE A TODDLER AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY KNOWING THAT MY CAR COULD STOP AT ANY MOMENT. PLEASE HELP. *TR
LIFTGATE WILL NOT OPEN. GLASS DOOR WILL OPEN. POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WHILE STOPPED, PRESSED GAS PEDDLE CAR ROLLED BUT NOT STRONG , HESITATED AS I HAD TOLD FORD DEALER, HAD TO SLAM BRAKES SO CAR WOULD NOT GO, BY THEN UPCOMING CAR WAS TO CLOSE. NO ACCIDENT BUT SCARED ME. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. NOT SAFE TO HAVE PASSENGERS, OR MYSELF. MANY COMPLAINTS TO FORD BUT NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A NOISE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE A DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,600. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ON 10/19/2013 AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR FOR THE 3RD TIME AT FORD FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH , VEHICLE LOST POWER, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH TURNED ON INCLUDING A WRENCH SYMBOL. I TOOK IT TO BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE THEY KEPT IT AND STATED IT WAS REPAIRED, THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS ON 06/10/2013 WHERE I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AT A SPEED OF 55MPH. THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WHERE NOT AWARE I HAD LOST POWER CAUSING A BACK UP UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FORD SAYS ITS A THROTTLE PROBLEM WHICH IS NOW NOT COVERED BECAUSE I AM NOW OVER 60K MILES, THEREFORE I HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED. *TR
SHORTLY AFTER ENTERING HIGHWAY ON DARK RAINY EVENING, WITH NO FORE WARNING, CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND LOSE POWER. WAS ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY. EVEN THOUGH I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS, CAR WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. WRENCH LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. WHEN HELP ARRIVED THEY SUGGESTED I TURN OFF VEHICLE. WHEN I TURNED BACK ON, CAR WAS FINE. THE NEXT DAY, WITH NO WARNING, SAME THING OCCURS ON NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD. WHEN WE TOOK TO FORD DEALER TODAY, THE PROBLEM DID NOT REPEAT SO THEY HAVE NO REPAIR CODE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION....COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY...I HAVE TO DRIVE 17 MILES TO WORK ON HIGHWAY AND I AM SCARED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE AT AROUND 40-60 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST ALL ACCELERATION. AT THE SAME TIME THE ORANGE WRENCH CAME ON MY DASHBOARD. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP, THE ENGINE ALMOST DIED, BUT NEVER DID. PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN SEEMED TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM - AND THE ORANGE WRENCH WENT AWAY, UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD. THAT MORNING IT HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES WITHIN A HALF HOUR OR SO AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE LAST TIME. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ONCE RANDOMLY BEFORE BUT THE MECHANIC COULD FIND NO REASON FOR IT TO BE HAPPENING. SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON THIS TIME HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONCLUDED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. WORKED FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. I KNOW ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. IT HAS DONE IT MAYBE 200 TIMES SINCE THEN AND ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS CAR CRASH THE LAST TIME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND THE THROTTLE CONTROL/DRIVETRAIN LIGHT CAME ON . I PULLED TO THE BERM AND THE ENGINE FELT LIKE IT WAS MISSING AND IT WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND IT RAN OKAY. I CONTINUED TO WORK WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK THE EXACT SAME THING OCCURRED ONLY TRAFFIC WAS MUCH HEAVIER ON THE INTERSTATE SO GETTING TO THE BERM WAS MUCH MORE HAZARDOUS. I TURNED IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT RAN OKAY AGAIN. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS ABLE TO SCHEDULE AN APPT FOR THE NEXT EVENING. THE NEXT DAY ON THE WAY TO WORK THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING AS I PULLED INTO AN INTERSECTION. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP TURN IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT RAN OKAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT EVENING AND THEY KEPT IT SO THEIR SERVICE DEPT COULD ANALYSIS THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT EVENING THEY CONTACTED ME AND ADVISED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I PICKED IT UP AND DROVE IT TO WORK AND HOME THE NEXT DAY WITH NO PROBLEM. THE FOLLOWING DAY IT OCCURRED AGAIN AND I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY HAD ME BRING IT IN. I WAS APPROX. 15 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I CONTACTED THEM AND THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE DEALERSHIP, ONCE IN AN INTERSECTION AND ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE. AFTER THEY ANALYZED IT AGAIN THEY ADVISED ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR (CODE P2111 THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN FORCED TO LIMIT POWER) THE VEHICLE HAS JUST OVER 37,500 MILES ON IT SO IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. LOOKING ON THE WEB AND THE NHTSA WEBSITE THIS DOESN'T APPEAR UNIQUE TO MY VEHICLE. SINCE THIS OCCURS WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND HAS HAPPENED AT VERY INOPPORTUNE TIMES THIS LOOKS TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

LUCKILY THAT HAS BEEN THE ONLY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED BUT I STILL WORRY ABOUT IT DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. AT THE TIME I WAS SO SHAKEN UP THAT I WENT STRAIGHT HOME BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO GET STRANDED. MY FORD ESCAPE 2009 KEEPS LOSING ACCELERATION ABILITY. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ONLY GOING 25 ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER EASILY. WRENCH LIGHT IS ON, I TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART AND ACCELERATION IS FINE. THE NEXT TIME I WAS OUT OF TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN ON THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH WHEN ENGINE BEGAN TO DECELERATE, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO EMERGENCY LANE. AGAIN I TURNED CAR OFF AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON EVERYTHING SEEM TO RETURN TO NORMAL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BECAUSE I DID NOT FEEL SAFE CONTINUING TO DRIVE IT. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT GET A CODE OFF THE COMPUTER. THE MECHANIC DROVE IT AND WAS UNABLE TO GET PROBLEM TO OCCUR. I HAD TO PICK UP THE CAR WITH NO RESOLUTION. I RISKED MY LIFE AND DROVE IT HOME. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME. I WILL NOT BE DRIVING MY CAR AGAIN UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED. IT SEEMS FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. I RECENTLY READ IN A NEWSPAPER ABOUT AN ENGINE PROBE FOR FORD VEHICLES AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH STALLING AND/OR SURGING ENGINE IN MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED. I BELIEVE MY CAR HAD EXPERIENCED THIS "LIMP HOME MODE" ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD. HER FOOT WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. SHE ALSO NOTICED TWO SYMBOLS, A GAS AND A WRENCH LIGHT, APPEARED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. SHORTLY AFTER SHE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN, SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS ADVISED TO MONITOR THE SITUATION. ON DECEMBER 21, 2012, AS SHE WAS DRIVING 40 MPH IN THE CITY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. AT THAT TIME, ONLY THE SYMBOL OF THE WRENCH APPEARED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION, ONLY TO BE TOLD, THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM.
MY VEHICLE WILL BE DRIVING FINE UNTIL SUDDENLY THE CAR LOSSES THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND THE "WRENCH" LIGHT APPEARS AND THE ENGINE SHAKES FORCEFULLY. THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND DECELERATES UNEXPECTEDLY. THE PROBLEM BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 WHILST I WAS DRIVING. I PULLED OVER AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THE ENGINE IDLED VERY ROUGH WITH A HEAVY SURGE. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED WITHOUT PROBLEMS. ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2012 IT RE-OCCURRED ABOUT 7 TIMES IN A 12 MILE JOURNEY AND I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER FOR A CHECK. THE SCAN INDICATED AN ERROR CODE P2112 INDICATING A FAULTY THROTTLE SWITCH POSITION SENSOR. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT I SHOULD CHANGE THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY. AFTER THE SCAN THE VEHICLE WORKED FINE AND THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY.. ON MAY 22, 2013 THE PROBLEM RESURFACED TO THE POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN MORE THAN A MILE WITHOUT THE SUDDEN DECELERATION IS NOW AT THE POINT WHERE IT CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN. *TR
HAD JUST COME OVER THE TN RIVER BRIDGE ON I40 EAST IN TN AND WAS APPROACHING MILE MARKER 137 WHEN THE VEHICLE BECAME NON RESPONSIVE TO THROTTLE WITH NO DASH INDICATION LIGHTS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT FUEL PUMP SHUT DOWN BECAUSE ACCELERATION DID NOT WORK. I KNEW THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BY RPM AND POWER STEERING WORKED. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING IN THE LEFT LANE AND THERE WAS TRAFFIC BEHIND, IN FRONT AND IN RIGHT LANE. I TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS IN HOPES OF WARNING THE TRAFFIC AROUND ME. THE SEMI BEHIND ME HAD TO SLOW ALSO AND I COULD NOT CHANGE LANES AT MOMENT. CONTEMPLATING GOING LEFT INTO THE MEDIAN AND MAYBE STRIKING AN UPCOMING BRIDGE RAIL OR WAIT FOR OPEN RIGHT LANE AND GET TO RIGHT SIDE OF INTERSTATE. I HAD AN OPENING AND TURNED OFF HAZARD FLASHER AND THEN GAVE A RIGHT BLINKER, CUTTING OFF THE SEMI BEHIND WHO WAS TRYING TO GO AROUND ME. AT THAT MOMENT I THOUGHT WE WOULD GET HIT. PULLED OVER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. VEHICLE IDLED BAD LIKE A MISFIRE AND RPM GAUGE WENT UP AND DOWN UNSTEADILY. I VIDEOED THE FLUCTUATION WHILE PULLED OVER. TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED NO PROBLEM. PROBLEM CAME BACK AGAIN 74 MILES LATER IN NASHVILLE AT 88756 MILES. AT THAT POINT ON I440E AND I65 SPLIT THE VEHICLE, WITHOUT WARNING, SHUTDOWN AGAIN, BECAME NON RESPONSIVE TO THROTTLE. THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I PULLED OVER VIDEOED THE FLUCTUATING GAUGES. TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED AND LIGHTS WENT OFF AND PROCEEDED TO CROWN FORD ON THOMPSON LANE AND THE SERVICE DEPT WAS CLOSED. THIS ISSUE ALSO HAPPENED 5 TIMES ON 9-3-2012, BETWEEN MILEAGE 89,9002 TO 89,1181, WHILE IN ALABAMA/TN. EXAMPLE GOING UPHILL, AND ALSO COASTING INTO SOMEONES DRIVEWAY AT NIGHT . THIS VEHICLE STILL CURRENTLY HAS THE TRANS FLARE ISSUE EVEN AFTER TWO PCM REFLASH. BUT FORD CANT GET IT TO ACT UP. I THOUGHT MAYBE THIS ISSUE WAS RELATED. *TR
PETITION FOR DEFECT INVESTIGATION INTO MY 2005-2012 FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES FOR THROTTLE BODY FAILURES RESULTING IN A STALL WHILE DRIVING EVENT OR ENGINE SURGE EVENT *TGW ON OF THE COMPLAINANTS COMPLAINED OF A STUCK ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY WITH ENGINE CODES P2111; THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN AND P2222; THROTTLE BODY STUCK CLOSED. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY MECHANICAL INTERFERENCE ON THROTTLE BLADE OR ANY CARBON BUILD-UP.

THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
I BOUGHT THE FORD ESCAPE IN 2009. THE MODEL HAD A RECALL ON THE MODEL FROM 2001 TO 2005 REGARDING TO THE BACK DOOR LOCK DEFECT. FORD ISSUED RECALL ON MARCH 31, 2005. HOWEVER, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS TO THE LATER ESCAPE MODEL AND NO RECALL IS MADE. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE OLD NHTSA COMPLAINT ID IS 04V602000. I REQUEST THAT NHTSA LOOK INTO IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED THE THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY CAN BECOME STUCK AND CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE ALL THROTTLE AND SPEED CONTROL. PROBLEM WILL PRESENT ITSELF AS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AS SHIFTING THROUGH ALL THE GEARS WILL NOT CLEAR THE PROBLEM, UNTIL ENGINE IS POWERED DOWN AND RESTARTED. THIS IS A CLEAR AND EVIDENT PROBLEM THAT APPEARS AT OR AROUND 75,000 MILES. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FACTORY MODEL THROTTLE BODY INSTALLED IN MOST ESCAPE MODEL VEHICLES. REGULAR ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS DO NOT DISPLAY AN ERROR CODE UNLESS THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER IS CONNECTED TO THE CAR AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT AND WARNING LIGHT IS ON. *TR

TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, DROVE CAR HOME AND CALLED SERVICING DEALERSHIP FOR APPOINTMENT. HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED ON 8/10/12 TO CHECK TRANSMISSION, THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PROBLEM BUT THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD LET US KNOW TODAY 8/12/12 IF VEHICLE SHOULD BE TOWED IN RATHER THEN DRIVING IT IN DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. *TR
