THE STEERING ON MY VEHICLE HAS A SERIOUS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. LOSING POWER STEERING AT THE DROP OF A HAT. IT CAN BE FIXED TEMPORARILY BY TURNING THE KEY OFF AND ON THREE TIMES. BUT IT COMES RIGHT BACK, AND IS HARD TO STEER. I CHECKED THE VIN NUMBER ON YOUR RECALL SITE, AND IT SAYS ZERO UNFIXED PROBLEMS. BUT IT DOES NOT SAY IT WAS PART OF THE RECALL, OF IF THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED BEFORE. A COMPUTER RESET CAN FIX THEY SYMPTOMS, BUT IT DOES NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS USUALLY THE STEERING MODULE. CAN YOU CHECK TO SEE IF THEY DID FIX "A" PROBLEM, AND WHAT WAS DONE. A CODE WAS KICKED OUT BY MY LOCAL MECHANIC. THAT CODE WAS B1342-2F-CM0TC-ECV
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT START-UP, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE PERSISTED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND RECALIBRATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
AS I WAS BEGINNING TO DRIVE AWAY FROM A PARKED POSITION MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND I RECEIVED A ERROR MESSAGE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. NOW MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ANY STEERING ABILITY WITHOUT A LOT OF FORCE.
A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE LIT UP ON MY DASH AND I LOST MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT AND I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT BACK ON IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AS I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS VERY SCARY. I NOW HAVE NO POWER STEERING. I CALLED FORD DIRECTLY AS I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES FOR THE YEAR PERTAINING TO MY VEHICLE. THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT IT WAS VIN SPECIFIC AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO HELP ME SINCE MY VIN DIDN'T FALL UNDER THE ONES AFFECTED. THE RIGHT YEAR AND MODEL BUT NOT THE RIGHT VIN. UNACCEPTABLE CONSIDERING IT'S THE SAME ISSUE. THIS WAS VERY UPSETTING CONSIDERING IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND ME IS AT STAKE. DOING SOME RESEARCH I'VE NOTICED MANY MORE PEOPLE LIKE ME WITH EXACT SAME ISSUE AND I'M NOT SURE WHY FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESSED THIS. VERY UPSET WITH FORD. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FOR A NEW DRIVER AS WELL. LUCKILY IT HAPPENED TO ME AND NOT TO HER. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS SAFETY CONCERN BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION FORD WHITE BEAR LAKE LOCATED AT 1493 CO RD E EAST, WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN 55110, TO BE DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, NO FAILURE CODE APPEARED. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE STATED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AND WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND REPAIRED DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
I DROVE TO THE GROCERY STORE AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF TO GO SHOPPING. I CAME OUT TO LEAVE AND TURNED ON THE CAR BUT I COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.
I DROVE MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE TO A LOCAL GAS STATION AND IT WAS RUNNING FINE . I SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND WHEN I CAME BACK OUT FROM THE STORE AND WENT TO LEAVE I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO POWER STEERING , THE MESSAGE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME ACROSS THE DASH .
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT HAS DISPLAYED BACK ONTO MY DASH. VEHICLE HAS NO POWER STEERING. FORD "RECALL" WAS PREVIOUSLY ISSUED WHICH LEAD TO RE-PROGRAMMING THE SENSOR YEARS AGO. NOW THE FAULT HAS RETURNED AND FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR REPLACED AND THE FAULT IS STILL PRESENT WITH NO POWER STEERING. MAKES DRIVING DANGEROUS.
CAR DROVE GREAT ONE SECOND THEN NEXT POWER STEERING FAILED VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY
POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING MAKING STEERING CONTROL VERY DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT EVENTUALLY WENT OUT COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS VISITING FLORENCE, OR FROM SEATTLE, WA. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS ON A CITY STREET AT A LOW SPEED, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MANUVER ESPECIALLY TURNING AND PARKING. AFTER THAT IT HAPPENED ANY WHERE I DROVE. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE FOR SOME OTHER PROBLEMS AND MENTIONED THIS. THEY DID RESEARCH FINDING OUT ABOUT A RECALL THAT HAD BEEN DONE ON THESE VEHICLES FOR THAT ISSUE. I MYSELF THEN DID SOME RESEARCH FINDING OUT THAT IT HAD BEEN TAKEN IN FOR THE RECALL IN JUNE OF 2014. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE JOHNSTON MOTOR CO. IN FLORENCE, OR. THEY DID TESTING AND FOUND THAT IT IS RECCOMENDED THAT THE PSCM/STEERING COLUMN BE REPLACED, ESTIMATED COST IS $1690 AND SINCE FORD DID THE "SENSOR REPLACEMENT" ON THE RECAL L IT NOW MY PROBLEM. I HAVE READ DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED THROUGH THE RECALL AND ARE NOW DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME TO SEATTLE FROM FLORENCE OR WITH NO POWER STEERING AND PRAY THAT IT DIDN'T LOCK UP COMPLETELY. I AM A 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH BACK PROBLEMS AND ARTHRITIS, I WAS IN PAIN TO THE POINT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO STAND UP STRAIGHT FOR 4 DAYS AFTER DRIVING HOME, HERDING THAT MONSTER DOWN THE ROAD. MILEAGE AT TIME OF THIS IS AT 67,400.

THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALERSHIP GALPIN FORD LOCATED AT (15505 ROSCOE BLVD, VAN NUYS, CA 91343, 818-787-3800) WHO PERFORMED THE ORIGINAL RECALL REPAIR IN 2014. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REACH A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC TO THE GROCERY STORE 2 MILES FROM MY HOUSE,AVERAGE SPEED 35 MPH, WENT TO STOP AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE/NO STOPPING POWER ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT.STOPPED AT STORE SHUT CAR OFF AND THEN WENT HOME, IT WAS STILL THE SAME.LET THE CAR SIT A COUPLE HOURS THEN USED MY PRO SCAN TOOL TO LOOK FOR CODES.NO CODES FOUND EITHER STORED OR ENGINE RUNNING.ROAD TESTED THE CAR WITH SCAN TOOL HOOKED UP AND NO CODES FOUND AND THE BRAKES WERE OPERATING NORMALLY.THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 6 MONTHS THIS HAS OCCURRED.BOUGHT THIS 2009 FORD ESCAPE XLS NEW IN 2009,IT ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES.THE FIRST TIME IT DID THIS WAS IN SEPT.2019 AND THEN YESTERDAY ON FEB.8 2020.I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS THOROUGHLY AND THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE.THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE ABS MODULE DUE TO DEFECTIVE INTERNAL VALVE SEALS THAT CORRODE AND ALLOW FLUID PRESSURE TO BY-PASS CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO ALMOST TO THE FLOOR SIMILAR TO A FAULTY MASTER CYLINDER.I HAVE READ THAT CURRENTLY FORD HAS A RECALL ON SOME VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM BUT DIFFERENT MODELS.THE AVERAGE INSTALLATION REPAIR COST IS OVER $ 2000.00.THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT/FLAW/ ISSUE AND FORD SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO REPLACE AND REPAIR THE ABS SYSTEM ON ALL MODELS SHARING THE SAME OR SIMILAR SYSTEM EXPERIENCING THIS ANOMALY AND YES IT IS AN ANOMALY.NO WARNING LIGHT ON{ABS} NO TROUBLE CODES EITHER STORED OR RUNNING TEST.THIS CAR IS GARAGE KEPT,WELL MAINTAINED AND IN LIKE NEW CONDITION.PLEASE HELP US,THE CONSUMER FROM THIS REFUSAL BY FORD TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEM FOUND ON A VEHICLE,THE BRAKE ABS SYSTEM.WHAT WILL IT TAKE? MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY CAR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND DID NOT RETURN ONCE THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO RETURN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, A DIAGNOSTIC TEST SHOWED ERROR CODES OF B2278 AND B1342. BOTH CODES WERE COVERED UNDER ORIGINAL RECALL BY FORD RECALL NUMBER 14S05. MY CAR DID HAVE THE RECOMMENDED RECALL IN 2014 WHICH INCLUDED THE COMPUTER RESET. THIS OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO KEEP THE POWER STEERING PROPERLY WORKING AND I HAVE NOW BEEN QUOTED $2200 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE READ REPORTS THAT THIS RECALL DOES NOT POSE RISKS TO SAFETY AS THE POWER STEERING USUALLY IS OFF BY THE TIME THE CAR STARTS SO IT IS KNOWN WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FROM THE START. I CAN TELL YOU THAT, THAT HAS NOT BEEN OUR EXPERIENCE. THE POWER STEERING AS STOPPED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS VEHICLE IS OUR FAMILY CAR WHICH REGULARLY CONTAINS MY 4 AND 2 YEAR OLD CHILDREN. I AM OUTRAGED BY THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND ONLINE AND YET WE ARE TOLD THIS RECALL WAS 'FIXED.' THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED AS IT ABSOLUTELY POSES POTENTIAL HARM.
MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN LOCKING UP. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I FIRST START TO DRIVE BUT IT HAS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN ON THE ROAD. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT ON THE HIGHWAY SINCE THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING.

WHILE PARKED AND TRYING TO START THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NOT UNLOCK. AFTER WIGGLING THE COLUMN BACK AND FORTH WHILE TURNING THE KEY THE VEHICLE WOULD START. AS SOON AS YOU PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD LOCK.AFTER A WHILE IT WOULD REMAIN UNLOCKED BUT IT WAS TOO DIFFICULT TO STEER. NO MAINTENANCE CODE OR WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS. TWO DAYS PRIOR HAD DRIVEN APPROX. 470 MILES FROM PA TO NH WITH NO ISSUES. INITIAL RESEARCH SUGGEST AN ISSUE WITH A WORN KEY SWITCH. A LESS THAN $200.00 FIX.HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER (DOVER NH). DIAGNOSIS - ADAPTIVE COLLAPSIBLE STEERING COLUMN: POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAULT. (PART OF COLUMN). THIS IS CAUSING YOUR STEERING CONCERN. ITEM DESCRIPTION: THE ADAPTIVE COLLAPSIBLE STEERING COLUMN IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE STEERING AND SAFETY SYSTEM. THIS IS THE PART THAT TRANSFERS YOUR TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE STEERING GEAR. THE ADAPTIVE COLLAPSIBLE IS A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE IT WILL ACTUALLY COLLAPSE DURING A FRONTAL IMPACT ACCIDENT TO KEEP THE DRIVER FROM BEING THROWN DIRECTLY INTO THE STEERING WHEEL.REASON - IF THE ADAPTIVE COLLAPSIBLE STEERING COLUMN IS BROKEN THEN YOU WILL BE UNABLE OPERATE YOUR VEHICLE. QUOTE 3-4 DAYS FOR PARTS - $1,995.69 TO REPAIR. I AM A FEMALE COLLEGE STUDENT ON MY OWN AND CAN'T AFFORD A $2,000.00 REPAIR OR A CAR PAYMENT. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING, WHEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE OF THE POSITIONING SENSOR AND IT WORKED FOR AWHILE. NOW IT IS EVEN HARDER TO STEER, TOOK IT BACK TO THE DELEARSHIP AND THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF 4300 DLLS TO FIX THE STEERING WHEEL ISSUE THAT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A SAFETY RECALL 14505. THEY ARE NOW SAYING THAT THE SAFETY RECALL WAS CLOSED ON MARCH 2016. I DON'T THINK IS FAIR THAT FORD CAN WALK AWAY FROM SAFETY ISSUES THAT CAN CREATE A RISK SITUATION TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE.

SINCE THAT INCIDENT, THE BRAKES BECAME SOFT AND WENT TO FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE PUMPED MULTIPLE TIMES TO EFFECTIVELY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FOUR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

THE CONTACT DID NOT AUTHORIZE THE REPAIRS TO BE DONE AND DROVE VEHICLE HOME WHERE IT WAS CURRENTLY UNREPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEE IF THERE WAS A CHANCE TO ADD THE VEHICLE TO THE RECALL EVEN IF IT WAS TOO LATE THE MANUFACTURER THEN TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT'S CALL TO NHTSA WITHOUT ALERTING THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. A CASE WAS FILED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS. *JS

I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, TURNING LEFT WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN. I BARELY GOT MYSELF TO A SAFE PLACE TO PARK MY CAR AND WAS LUCKY TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP/ REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY HAD TO FIX THE STEERING COLUMN TOO. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2008-20011 FORD ESCAPES FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE!! HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED FORD TO SET THINGS RIGHT THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL. THE PREVIOUS OWNER GOT A SOFTWARE UPDATE THOUGH THIS WAS ONLY 1 OF 3 FIXES THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE DONE. FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE UNSAFE CARS ON THE ROAD AND YET THEY TELL THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR THEIR IMPROPER AND FAULTY PRODUCT. I DON'T SEE WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED; AN ISSUE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR. FORD IS CHOOSING TO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND THOSE ON THE ROAD. HOW CAN YOU GET AROUND NOT FIXING YOUR RECALL? HOW IS THAT LEGAL?
MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED BY RECALL 14S05 BUT IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST SO FORD WON'T PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
AFTER LEAVING THE HIGHWAY (70MPH), AND TRAVELLING ON A MAIN ROAD (45MPH), THE POWER STEERING STOPPED RESPONDING AND DID NOT WORK. THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON FORD ESCAPES FROM '08-'11 (14V284000) BUT THIS SPECIFIC VIN IS NOT LISTED AS ONE OF THE AFFECTED ONES. SIMILAR TO THE LISTED ISSUES IN THE RECALL, THE POWER STEERING APPEARED TO RECOVER A FEW DAYS LATER, AT LOW SPEEDS (IN A PARKING LOT). THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED, AS FORD HAS ISSUED AN UPDATE TO THE PART.

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
WHEN PUSHING THROTTLE, ENGINE HESITATES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO DEALER BEFORE, BUT THEY SAY THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I SUSPECT THROTTLE BODY BUT NOW NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH UNDER RECALL. I BELIEVE TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD. 48000 MILES.

THE DASH SHOWED "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" SOMEBODY TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL, WITH THE "TORQUE SENSOR" ON THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, ON 2008-2012 ESCAPE MODELS, BUT NOT THE HYBRID MODELS. WHY? MY MECHANIC PUT A NEW BREAK MASTER CYLINDER SYSTEM ON AND THE BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY FOR A WEEK. THEN WITHOUT NOTICE THE SAME FRIGHTENING EVENT OCCURRED. SHE IS TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON HER CAR WHICH IS SITTING IN THE GARAGE NOW. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND HE SAID THEY WERE EXPERIENCING NATION WIDE PROBLEM WITH THE ABS MODULE AND THE ITEM WAS ON BACK ORDER WITH NO HOPE OF A DELIVERY DATE FOR A NEW ONE. I'VE NOTICED A BIG NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS EXACT ISSUE. HOW MANY LIVES WILL IT COST BEFORE FORD ISSUES A RECALL AND FIXES THIS ISSUE. MY DAUGHTER CAN'T AFFORD THE MORE THAN $1000.00 COST OF A REPAIR...EVEN IF THE PART WAS AVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. NHTSA RECALL # 14S05 WAS REPAIRED ON 10/14/14 ACCORDING TO FORD DATABASE. CLEARLY, THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR FORD USED TO REPLACE IS FAULTY AS WELL.

THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE CAR WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY (DRIVING IN REVERSE AT A LOW SPEED). BACK IN OCTOBER 2014, THE FORD DEALER DID A CODE CHECK FOR RECALL #14S05, AND ONLY REPROGRAMMED THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE A PARTS REPLACEMENT BASED ON WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CAR TODAY.

WAS DIAGNOSED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THIS MODEL IS NOT COVERED IN THE RECENT RECALL.

WHEN DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING A TURN (AT SLOW SPEEDS), OCCASIONALLY AND RANDOMLY THE STEERING SEEMS TO GET SUPER STIFF LIKE IT LOSES POWER AND THE COMPUTER GIVES A BRIEF TONE AND A SHORT MESSAGE POPS UP BUT DOESN'T STAY UP LONG ENOUGH TO READ OTHER THAN I THINK "POWER" SOMETHING. AFTER A BRIEF SECOND THE STEERING RETURNS TO NORMAL AGAIN. IT IS DANGEROUS AND HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING DURING A TURN. WHEN I CALL, FORD KNOWS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL PREVIOUSLY BUT WHEN TALKING TO THEM, THEY SEEM TO FEEL THAT THEIR OBLIGATIONS HAVE BEEN MET EVEN THOUGH THIS IS STILL OCCURRING AFTER THE SUPPOSED FIX. FORD JUST KEEPS SAYING BASICALLY THAT THEY FIXED IT AND IT IS DONE. OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. TODAY WAS THE MOST RECENT.
