I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING GARAGE AND DROVE ABOUT A HALF A MILE THROUGH CITY STREETS. AS I TURNED LEFT AND INCREASED SPEED TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WOULDN'T LET ME OUT OF THE TURN. WITH CARS COMING BEHIND ME, I BRAKED AND LET THE CAR CONTINUE IN ITS TRAJECTORY TOWARDS THE SIDE OF THE ON RAMP. I PUT ON MY HAZARDS, CUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THE STEERING RETURNED. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY GOT THE COURAGE TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE HOME AGAIN. I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2010, AND THIS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE AROUND 2012-2013. I HAD THE RECALL DONE, HOWEVER, AND I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. APPARENTLY NOT. THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS, AND I CRINGE TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD'VE HAPPENED IF I'D HAVE MADE IT ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND COULDN'T STEER OUT OF A CURVE GOING 60 MPH IN TRAFFIC.
WHILE DRIVING THE ESCAPE THE STEERING LOCKED. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ON COMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WENT IN THE OTHER LANE. FORD SAID THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS BUT HAS EXPIRED.
FUEL LEAK
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BARELY STOPS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON CITY STREETS, COUNTRY ROADS AND HIGHWAY. AT FIRST IT DID NOT DO IT VERY OFTEN, BUT IT IS NOW DOING IT AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. IT IS VERY SCARY WHEN TRYING TO COME TO A STOP AND THE BRAKES ARE NOT THERE. IT USED TO GET BETTER BY PUMPING THE BRAKES, BUT THIS IS NOT WORKING ALL THE TIME ANYMORE.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT RECALL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE POWER STEERING ALSO MALFUNCTIONED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COLD STARTED FROM A PARKED POSITION. SIMMONS-ROCKWELL FORD (1160 CO RD 66, HORNELL, NY 14843, (607) 324-4444) STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL AND FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED ON AUGUST 1, 2019. THE FAILURES OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000. *BF*JB *DL CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO AUTOMOTIVE RESOURCES SERVICE (LYONS, NY). THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WERE REPLACED. *DL
THIS CAR STILL HAS POWER STEERING PROBLEMS WHICH WERE PREVIOUSLY A SUBJECT OF A RECALL. FOR SOME REASON YOUR WEB SITE NO LONGER SHOWS THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION AS BEING A RECALL ON YOUR WEB SITE BUT THE CAR WAS NEVER FIXED WHEN BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. PREVIOUS RECALL NUMBER WAS 14S05 PLEASE HELP THIS IS DANGEROUS CONDITION.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE STEERING RACK; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR FAILURE RESULTING IN POWER STEERING ASSIST LOSS DURING OPERATION ON THE HIGHWAY. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE, THEN A MESSAGE CAME ACROSS THE DASHBOARD STATING THAT THERE WAS A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" BEFORE ALL POWER STEERING FAILED AND MANUAL DRIVE COMMENCED. A MECHANIC LATTER CONFIRMED IT WAS THE SENSOR BY GATHERING THE ERROR CODE B2278 WHICH IS A STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTION.
POWER STEERING FAILURE, BATTERY LIGHT ON. NEW BATTERY AND NEW ALTERNATOR INSTALLED. STILL HAVING INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF POWER STEERING.
HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER/THROTTLE RESPONSE. PULL OFF ROAD, PUT VEHICLE IN PARK, RESTART AND COMPUTER SEEMS TO RESET. HAD BEEN 1-2 TIMES PER YEAR OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND STRUGGLED TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. HAPPENED 8 TIMES IN 150 MILE TRIP TODAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ADVANTAGE FORD LINCOLN SALES (885 HAGERTY DR, FREMONT, OH 43420, (800) 354-2220) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AND THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AWAITING REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
FORD MOTOR COMPANY (FORD) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2011 FORD ESCAPE AND MERCURY MARINER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AUGUST 18, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 11, 2010. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE A STEERING TORQUE SENSOR THAT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY DETECT DRIVER STEERING INPUT. AS A RESULT, THE SYSTEM COULD REMOVE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSIST. I WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY, POWER STEERING CUTS OUT, ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT. MY VEHICLE MATCHES ALL THE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDING THE PLANT OF MAUNUFACTURER. SAME EXACT PROBLEM. FALLS IN THE CATEGORY, BUT THEY WONT COVER IT. WHAT DO I DO NOW!!!
THE KEY HAS A HARD TIME STARTING THE VEHICLE. IT MAY BE THE IGNITION MODULE.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK IN A BUSY INTERSECTION THE CAR LOST THE ABILITY TO MOVE BUT NOT THE POWER CAR CAME TO A STOP SHUT OFF CAR AND IT STARTED BUT WAS RIDING ROUGH. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON MY WAY HOME . WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. MY BROTHER WHO HAS BEEN A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOR THIRTY YEAS DIAGNOSED THE CAR AND IT SAID THROTTLE BODY VALVE STUCK OPEN.I DID NOT GET HURT BUT IF I HAD BEEN ON A HIGHWAY OR IN FASTER TRAFFIC I COULD HAVE. I THINK OTHERS SHOULD BE WARNED. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING FROM MONACO FORD IN GLASTONBURY WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR THE AND MY ADDRESS IS THE SAME AS WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW. AFTER STARTING THE CAR, THE INDICATOR WAS STILL ON, POWER WAS LOST IN THE STEERING. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LARRY H. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V280000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,905. I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO SCHOOL CLASS WHERE IT WAS PARKED FOR A FEW HOURS. ONCE I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE AND TRIED TO PULL OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE, MY STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED WHERE IT I WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. I WAS 50 MINUTES FROM HOME AND WAS FORCED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK HOME WITH THE STEERING WHEEL BARELY BEING ABLE TO NAVIGATE TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE. I CONTACTED FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER WHERE I HAD LOCATED A RECALL FOR VEHICLES MADE FROM 2008-2011 (FORD ESCAPE) CODE 14S05 THAT IMPACTED OVER 740,000 VEHICLES. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I NO LONGER HAD WARRANTY AND THAT THE COST WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY SINCE THIS RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY TRUCK. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A $1400.00 BILL TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING GEAR RACK AND LABOR CHARGES SINCE IT WILL TAKE OVER 5 + HOURS TO REPLACE. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE SINCE THERE IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE SINCE IT IS A 2009 AND HAS THE SAME ISSUES DESCRIBED WITH THE RECALL NOTICE.
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING OUR 2009 FORD ESCAPE. VERY DANGEROUS. I AM GLAD IT DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER WERE DRIVING. I WAS UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON FORD ESCAPES OR ANY OTHER FORD. IT APPEARS THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER 2008 -2011 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WIDESPREAD. THE FORD DEALER SAYS IT IS A CUSTOMER PROBLEM AND NOT A FORD RECALL PROBLEM. MAYBE THEY SHOULD LOOK AT THE ALL THE LOYAL CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE COMPLAINTS.
POWER STEERING JUST SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER/ TURN. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AND IS DANGEROUS. WHY IS IT NOT RECALLED?
CAR STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO STEER REGARDLESS OF SPEED BUT IT STARTED AT LOW SPEED. STEERING WHEEL WILL EVENTUALLY LOCK.
ON HWY, GOING TO TURN...BRAKE PEDEL WENT TO FLOOR...PUMPED..LITTLE, THEN TO FLOOR...KEPT PUMPING...NOTHING THIS TIME. THE WORSEST. HAVE HAD TO PUMP SEVERAL TIMES IN PAST, (DID PUMP UP ENOUGH TO STOP) NEED FIXED...SENIOR & FIXED INCOME!
WHEN I WAS HEADED TO DROP MY DAUGHTER OFF I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STREET THAT HAS SPEED BUMPS WHICH I USUALLY DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. UNTIL THIS MORNING (08/08/2019) WHEN MY POWER STEERING KICKED OFF AND I HAD TO PHYSICALLY TURN MY WHEEL. I SAW THE THEIR WAS A RECALL FOR 2009 FORD ESCAPES AND I WAS WONDERING IF MINE WAS ONE OF THEM.
WHEN I START THE CAR, MOST OF THE TIME THE ELECTRIC STEERING POWER ASSIST DOES NOT WORK. SOMETIMES I CAN TURN OFF ENGINE AND WAIT ABOUT A MINUTE AND RESTART ENGINE AND IT WILL WORK, OTHER TIMES IT WON'T. MY WIFE CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR WITH NO POWER STEERING.

UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
STEERING HAS COMPLETELY FROZEN DURING OPERATION MAKING CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. I'M ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. THESE PROBLEMS ARE VERY IRRESPONSIBLE ON FORDS BEHALF. ON A STRAIGHT ROAD TRAVELING ABOUT 25-30 MPH. NEXT I HAD A LEFT TURN COMING AND MY STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO TURN, AND ALMOST RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. TO SAY I'M PETRIFIED OF MY VEHICLE AT THIS POINT IS A GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT.
STARTING IN LATE 2018 WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES THEY WERE SOFT AND NEARLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE BRAKES STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN ABOUT A MONTH LATER AFTER VISITING THE DEALERSHIP. NOW THEY ARE SOFT SPONGY NEARLY ALL THE TIME. IT'S SCARY TO DRIVE. IF YOU HAVE TO BRAKE SUDDENLY THEY GO NEARLY TO THE FLOOR. I'VE GONE ONLINE AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE BRAKES, NOT ONLY WITH 2009, BUT OTHER YEARS AS WELL. MANY HAVE HAD THEIR MASTER CYLINDER REPLACE ONLY TO FIND THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP B4 SOMEONE IS INJURED OR DIES BECAUSE THEIR BRAKES FAIL !
WHEN YOUR DRIVING ASS "GO POWER" IS LOST AND A WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATES IN THE LOWER LEFT CORRNER. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE IM DRIVING BUT IT JUST DECIDES TO DO IT WHEN IT WANTS TO. HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH OR SO ITS HAPPEND WHEN I WAS GOING 10MPHS AND 30 MPHS AND ABOUT 45MPH...SUPER SUPER SCARY LUCKLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME ALL TIMES... MY 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2009 FORD ESCAPE ON A RURAL ROAD WHEN THE POWER STEERING JUST COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. SHE PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND CALLED HER DAD. HE TOLD HER TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART. WHEN SHE DID THIS THE POWER STEERING WAS FUNCTIONING NORMAL. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT WENT OUT AGAIN. SHE IS A VERY PETITE LESS THAN 100 POUND GIRL WITH MULTIPLE HEALTH ISSUES. SHE COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE AT ALL. HER DAD AND I WERE OUT OF TOWN AND SHE WAS STRANDED. A FRIEND CAME AND DROVE THE CAR HOME. POWER STEERING REPEATEDLY GOES IN AND OUT WHICH IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE!
VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN HER ESCAPE JUST KEPT SHUTTING DOWN TO THE POINT SHE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED AT 65-70MPH. FORD HAD A FIELD SERVICE ACTION ON THIS ISSUE IS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION THAT NEVER MADE IT AS A RECALL. I TRIED TO GET FORD TO RESTART THIS FIELD SERVICE AS THEY SAID MY WIFE'S CAR WAS PAST THE WARRANTY. NEEDS TO BE AS A RECALL NOT A FIELD SERVICE COMPLAINT SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR DIED FROM THIS I AM OUT $150 AND HALF DAY OF WORK TO FIX THIS BECAUSE FORD WON'T DO A RECALL TO SAVE THEIR ASS.
ON JULY 9, 2019 I WAS EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY AND MY VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING AT WHICH TIME THE ODOMETER WENT DOWN FROM 50 DOWN TO 0 IMMEDIATELY CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. THANK GOD I WAS ALREADY IN THE PROCESSING OF EXITING. NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AT ALL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO FIRESTONE WHO WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC AT THE TIME, AND SUGGESTED THAT I BRING IT BACK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND OF GREAT CONCERN. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 42,460 MILES OR SO ON IT, AND I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE ENCOUNTERING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD IT SINCE 2010 AND AT THE TIME PURCHASED AT 18,000 MILES OR SO. I DRIVE MY VEHICLE LOCALLY ONLY. I HAVE READ THAT THIS A PROBLEM WITH FORD ESCAPES, AND I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE LISTED AS A RECALL. PLEASE HELP!
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. I WENT TO GROCERY STORE PARKED, GOT OUT SHOPPED CAME OUT STARTED CAR COULD NOT STEER IT WENT OUT. CALLED HUSBAND HE CAME AND DRIVE HOME. WE HAD IT RESET DROVE FOR 2 WEEKS. WENT OUT AGAIN. RESET AGAIN WENT OUT AGAIN THAT TIME ABOUT 3 MONTHS. REALLY TIRED OF THIS IT SHOULD BE COVERED RECALL OTHER ESCAPES ARE!! VERY UPSETTING. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING JUST STOPS WORKING AT START UP OR DRIVING WORKS ABOUT 3/4 OF THE TIME SO YOU DONT KNOW WHEN ITS GOING TO QUIT WORKING NOT MUCH FUN ON A HIGH WAY OR IN TOWN DRIVING. HAD IT TESTED TOLD ITS FINE BUT IT IS A PROBLEM FOR A LOT OF OWNS OF THIS THING. SEEMS FORD DOSNT THINK SO. IT STARTED ACTING UP ABOUT A MOUTH AGO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUNRISE FORD (877-461-1956, LOCATED AT 16005 VALLEY BLVD, FONTANA, CA 92335) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS RECOMMENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 169,000.

STEERING FREEZES UPON START UP. WAS ABLE TO REST AT MULTIPLE TIMES AND POWER STEERING KICKED IN FOR THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. TODAY THIS HAPPENED AND TOOK OVER 30 MINUTES OF RESTARTING TO KICK IN, BUT THEN IT ALSO LOCKED BACK UP SEVERAL MILES DOWN THE ROAD AS I WAS DRIVING.
FAILURE OF POWER STEERING LESS THAN 1 YEAR AFTER REPLACEMENT OF STEERING TORQUE SENSOR AT RANDOM START UP.
THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP AND MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE CAR. AFTER A REVIEW ONLINE I SEE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE ESCAPE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THE STEERING IS ELECTRIC SO NO FLUID CAN BE PUT IN THE CAR. I WAS PARKED AND STARTED THE CAR AND WHEN I WENT TO BACK OUT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL. I TRIED TURNING OF THE CAR AND RESTARTING BUT IT WAS STILL THE SAME. ON A SIDE NOTE I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 06/06/19 FROM A SMALL DEALERSHIP FOR MY DAUGHTER. IT DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES FOR THE FIRST THREE DAYS OF DRIVING IT.

DURING OPERATION VEHICLE LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS STILL EXISTED. YELLOW SERVICE RANCH APPEARED ON DASH HAD TO PULL OVER AND PUT CAR IN PARK, I DON'T WAS VERY ROUGH TURN ENGINE OFF. AFTER STARTING CAR BACK UP ALL LIGHTS WERE GONE, ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THIS HAS NOW OCCURRED MORE THAN 20 TIMES. WE HAVE REPLACED BOTH OXYGEN SENSORS,THE PURGE CANISTER AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON LARGE HIGHWAYS OR A MULTILANE INTERSTATE IT BECOMES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. APPLE FORD (8800 STANFORD BLVD, COLOMBIA, MD) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE BOTH NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,800. *BF *JB
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WILL NOT ENGAGE EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED.
ON APRIL 15, 2019, WE PURCHASED THE USED 2009 FORD ESCAPE WITH LESS THAN 33,000 MILES. OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER DROVE IT TO WORK ON APRIL 17, 2019 WITH NO NOTICEABLE ISSUES, AND WHEN SHE WAS ON HER WAY HOME, SHE NOTICED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ESCAPE. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS GETTING MORE DIFFICULT FOR HER TO MOVE AS SHE WAS LEAVING WORK AND COMING HOME. WE HAD PURCHASED THE ESCAPE ONLY 2 DAYS PRIOR, SO WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHICH SAID THERE HAD BEEN NO KNOWN ISSUES, OF COARSE. WE TOOK THE ESCAPE TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THE COMPUTER HAD BEEN RESET FOR THIS ISSUE IN 2014, WHEN A RECALL WAS ISSUED. HE SAID AS TIGHT AS THE STEERING WAS, IT WAS DEFINITELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THEY TRIED RESETTING IT AGAIN WITH NO IMPROVEMENTS AT ALL. ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE THEN. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED OUR DAUGHTER TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT FROM MY UNDERSTANDING. WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WORK, BUT WAS NOTIFIED FROM THE REPAIR MAN THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED IN 2014 FOR THIS REASON. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL REPRESENTATIVES TODAY, AND ONE INFORMED ME THAT THIS ESCAPE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUES AS OTHERS IN THE 2008-2011 RANGE. I UNDERSTAND THE VIN NUMBER WAS RUN AND THEY SAID NO ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT I HAVE THE REPAIR WORK TO PROVE IT DID. SO I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE RESEARCHED FURTHER IF POSSIBLE, WITH THIS HAPPENING, WHY WAS IT NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? REIMBURSED? ONE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT THIS ESCAPE WAS NOT MANUFACTURED IN THE LOCATION THE OTHERS WERE ON THE RECALL LIST SO THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, YET IT HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE?? THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. THANK YOU
IT IS VERY DIFFICULT, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPED, STILL DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN MOVING BUT NOT AS BAD. MAYBE 1 OUT OF 20 DAYS THE STEERING IS NORMAL BUT IT IS VERY RARE.
