TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AT VEHICLE START-UP. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. AFTER WAITING FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES, THE STEERING WHEEL RELEASED AND OPERATED AS INTENDED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
I PURCHASED MY USED ESCAPE IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR. ITS A 2011. I HAVE HAD IT NOW FOR 8 MONTHS. 2 DAYS AGO MY CAR SHOWED A MSG "POWER STEER ASSIST FAULT" IT STILL DROVE FINE THAT NIGHT. THEN YESTERDAY MORNING MY CAR WAS INCREDIBLY HARD TO TURN. I LOOKED UP THE MSG AND GOT RECALL INFO. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER PAID $100 BUCKS FOR DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR. MY LAST $100. THEY GOT ERROR CODE B2278. IVE CALLED REPEATEDLY AND SEARCHED ONLINE. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WHERE THE RECALLS WERE, THE ERROR CODES ARE THE SAME, AND IM BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE WHEN THE EXACT CONDITIONS THAT OTHER RECALLS HAD MY CAR HAS? I DONT KNOW IF THE CAR HAD THE RECALL FIXED BEFORE, BC I BOUGHT IT USED. IDK IF THE DEALER KNEW. I JUST NEED HELP FIXING THIS. I USE MY CAR FOR WORK. I AM A MAIL CARRIER, AND DELIVERY DRIVER. I HAVE NO IDEA WHO TO GO TO FOR HELP.
VEHICLE INTERMITTENT HARD TO STEER. STARTS UP FINE YOU DRIVE FOR A WHILE THEN CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER. SHUT CAR OFF THEN CAR IS FINE. THEN A WEEK OR TWO LATER SAME ISSUE. CAR DOES NOT THROW ANY CODES.
VEHICLE FELT SLIGHTLY STIFF IN STEERING. NEXT DAY OPERATED FINE UNTIL SWITCHED OFF AND LATER STARTED UP AGAIN, AT WHICH POINT STEERING WAS VERY STIFF (DANGEROUS TO DRIVE)! I THEN PARKED IT AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. LATER I STARTED THE ENGINE AND STEERING WAS AGAIN OK. SOMETIMES IT GETS HARD TO STEERING WHILE DRIVING...I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE STEERING WILL GO OUT. IT CHANGES AT DIFFERENT TIMES, AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ON FLAT OR UNLEVEL STREETS. THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT AND POSES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! I HAVE FOUND MANY REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE SAME AND SIMILAR VEHICLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 18, 2014...FORD'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 14S05.???
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH DASH CLUSTER GOING CRAZY WHILE DRIVING ,I HAVE RESERCHED ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ,WOULD BE NICE IF FORDWOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE.
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STARTED BY FLASHING ALL LIGHTS TO STAYING ON. THEN THE SPEED CONTROLS, SPEEDOMETER, RPM GAUGE, AND HEAT SENSOR WOULD NOT WORK. ON TOP OF ALL THIS. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO MAKE A CLICKING NOISE WHEN THIS ISSUE WOULD HAPPEN AND THE BRAKES WOULD ACT ROUGH. NO MECHANIC COULD FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM UNTIL IT WAS TO LATE. THIS NEEDS TO BE BETTER KNOWN AND BETTER MANAGED.
POWER STEERING ASSIT FAULT SINCE LAST RECALL IT HAS NEVER DISAPPEARED AND THE STEERING IS STIFF.
I LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS SWITCHING LANES AND APPROACHING THE EXIT RAMP, WHEN I MY CAR ALERTED ME TO THE LOSS OF STEERING AND I HAD TO MANUALLY STEER THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SAFELY ONTO A SIDE STREET.
THE STEERING WHEEL OF VEHICLE LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, PUTTING THE GEAR IN PARK, AND THEN SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER CAN ONCE AGAIN GAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. HOWEVER, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY, THAT IT MAKES DRIVING THE VEHICLE VERY HAZARDOUS AS YOU NEVER KNOWN WHEN THIS LOSS OF STEERING MAY OCCUR. THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL HAS HAPPENED BOTH ON CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT APPEARS TO BE MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN TURNING BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN THE DRIVER SHOULD BE ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HOW THIS IMPACTS SAFETY IN REGARDS TO BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ON SNOWY WINTER ROADS. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE STATION WHERE I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE, IT SHOWED A DTC CODE OF B2278, INDICATING THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH A TORQUE SENSOR THAT IS PART OF THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND THAT THIS CODE IS LINKED TO SAFETY RECALL #14S05. HOWEVER, THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA TOLD ME THAT THIS SAFETY RECALL DOES NOT PERTAIN TO THE VIN NUMBER ASSOCIATED WITH MY VEHICLE.
POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. VERY HARD TO STEER THE CAR, RETURNS AFTER SHUT OFF. ORIGINAL OWNER. THE FAULT HAPPENED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
I AM WRITING THIS AS MY CONCERNED I HAVEN'T HAD MY VEHICLE LESS THEN YEAR AND I HAVE NOTICED MY STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP ON ME WHILE I AM DRIVING. I HAVE NOTICED IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE DRIVING IT AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT WAS 2-3 WEEKS APART FROM WHEN IT DO IT. I'M NOT REALLY SURE ON THE DATES OF WHEN IT HAPPENED. I TYPICALLY DRIVE MOSTLY COUNTRY. MY TYPICAL DRIVE IS 60 MILES A DAY GOING FROM WORK AND HOME.
POWER STEERING JUST RANDOMLY WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. I KNOW PREVIOUSLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS, HOWEVER I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR A COUPLE YEARS AND IT'S JUST NOW A PROBLEM. IF I TURN THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTART IT STARTS WORKING AGAIN. ALSO, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A FRONT BEARING PART, I'M HAVING ISSUES THERE AS WELL. FRONT RIGHT.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

(11514 RESEARCH BLVD, AUSTIN, TX 78759) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000(STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT UNEXPECTEDLY. THE TECH AT THE SHOP IS VERY SURPRISED THAT MY VIN ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. I WAS QUOTED $2,000 FOR THE REPAIR. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE REPAIR AT THAT COST.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER AND WAS PARKED SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY FROM HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED STAR FORD (1101 S BRAND BLVD, GLENDALE, CA 91204) AND BOB WONDRIES FORD (400 S ATLANTIC BLVD, ALHAMBRA, CA 91801) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAVALIER FORD GREENBRIER (1515 S MILITARY HWY, CHESAPEAKE, VA 23320), AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIR WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,116.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed. The contact stated that the steering wheel turned to the right and vibrated. The contact had to turn the steering wheel with force to be able to complete the turn. The contact stated that the power steering assist light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the mechanic replaced the power steering assist module. However, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
LIGHT CAME ON FOR POWER STEERING ASSISTED FAULT AFTER I PUT CAR IN PARK AND OPENED THE DOOR WHILE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. AFTER TURNING CAR OFF AND RESTARTING TURNING STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DON HINDS FORD INC (12610 FORD DR, FISHERS, IN 46038) WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK HER VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MECHANIC THEN REFERRED HER TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. Consumer stated vehicle was under construction during recall.

THE CONTACT CALLED AUTONATION FORD ORANGE PARK LOCATED AT 7700 BLANDING BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32244, (904) 270-9943, TO NOTIFY THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,864.
WHEN IM STARTING TO DRIVE THE ESCAPE IT MAKES A WARNING SOUND AND THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT FEEL NATURAL. AT TIMES IT FEELS STIFF AND HARD TO TURN AND AT OTHER TIMES IT TURNS SO EASILY. ON THE DASHBOARD IT SHOWS ME A WARNING SIGN TELLING ME, 'POWER STEERING ASSISTANT FAULT,' ITS HAPPENED THREE TIMES THESE PAST FEW MONTHS. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED, I DID A RESET BUT IT STILL SHOWS UP. I DONT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT FEELS DANGEROUS.
ALL OFF THESE EVENTS I AM DESCRIBING HAPPENED ALL WHILE DRIVING AND STILL OCCUR WHILE IN PARK. ALL OF THESE ALSO SLOWLY PROGRESSED INTO ONE BIG ISSUE OVER A MONTH AND A HALF PERIOD. IT STARTED OFF AS MY HEADLIGHTS WERE DIMMING AND FLICKERING, THEN IT PROGRESSED TO MY DASH LIGHTS DOING THE SAME, FLICKERING AND DIMMING ON AND OFF. THEN IT STARTED AFFECTING MY AC AND HEAT, IT WOULD GET LOCKED TO STAY ON AND I WOULD HAVE IT TURNED OFF BUT IF MY GAUGES WERE IN A CERTAIN POSITION SOMETIMES IT WOULD JUST TURN ON BY ITSELF. THEN MY BATTERY LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF, AND THEN MY POWER STEERING WAS MAKING LIKE A CLICK SOUND AND IT WOULD GO IN AND OUT. ONE TIME MY LOCKS WERE GOING ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES AS WELL. I REPLACED THE BATTERY THINKING IT WAS DYING, THAT DIDN'T HELP. I TOOK IT TO GET THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR TESTED AND IT WAS GIVING A 100%. I'M AT A LOSS AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO AS THE POWER STEERING IS AN ISSUE.

THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
RANDOM LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *TR
THE GAS TANK IS FAULTY. SUDDENLY, IT WILL NOT HOLD GAS. GAS BEGAN TO POUR OUT AFTER I HAD FILLED THE TANK JUST A FEW MINUTES BEFOREHAND. I NOTICED THE GAS POURING OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED IN OUR GARAGE. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENT OR EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE CAR TO CAUSE THIS ISSUE. I READ THAT SOME 2011 FORD ESCAPES WERE RECALLED FOR THIS VERY ISSUE, BUT MY VIN DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE DATABASE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISED THAT I FILL OUT THIS FORM.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING MESSAGE FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER, WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. A RECALL REPAIR APPROVAL REQUEST WAS FILED HOWEVER THE REQUEST WAS DENIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, WHEN A SEMI TRUCK PASSED THE VEHICLE THE HOOD CAME UP WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE HOOD TO HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO ONE HAD PREVIOUSLY OPENED THE HOOD PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SERPENTINI CHEVROLET BUICK OF ORRVILLE (1107 N MAIN ST, ORRVILLE, OH 44667) WHERE IT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER INFORMED HE OF NO OPEN RECALL FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, SHE RESEARCHED THE FAILURE ON-LINE AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME HOOD LATCH FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. *JS
MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE IS PURCHASED FROM A PREVIOUS OWNER WHO HAD A RECALL PREFORMED BACK IN 2014. THE RECALL WAS FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. YEARS LATER I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING WHEEL SHACKING AND KNOW I CAN BARELY TURN THE WHEEL. BOUGHT INTO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHERE THE RECALL WAS ORIGINAL PERFORMED AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 800.00 TO GET FIXED BECAUSE THE RECALL IS CLOSED. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE OR AGE IF THE VEHICLE YOU SOUND THINK THAT SAFETY WOULD BE THE FIRST PRIORITY FOR THE CONSUMER. I HAVE OWNED FORDS IN THE PAST BUT HAVE NEVER HAD THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FORD AND LINCOLN OF SMITHTOWN LOCATED AT (440 EAST JERICHO, TURNPIKE, ST JAMES, NY 11780). THE POWER STEERING WAS DIAGNOSED BY DEALER AND DETERMINED THAT POWER STEERING GEAR HAD TROUBLES AND THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. DEALER SAID THAT MOST 2008 TO 2011 FORD ESCAPES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE BUT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE DID NOT FIT THE PARAMETERS. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED BY SMITHTOWN FORD AND CONSUMER WAS CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR. CONSUMER ATTACHED THE PAPER WORK FROM DEALER SHOWING THIS INFORMATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000. *LN*JB*DT*JB
FIRST POWER DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING, NEXT TAIL GATE WON'T OPEN, TIRE PRESSURE DASH LIGHT WARNING COMES ON YET THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. CHECK MOTOR DASH LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF OFTEN YET THEY FIND NO PROBLEM. LATEST IS POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING AGAIN PLUGGED INTO CHECKING MACHINE NO PROBLEM. STEERING WHEEL SHAKES CONTINUOUSLY WHILE STOPPED. AND BELIEVE SUSPENSION IS GIVING OUT. NOT A CAR THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. HAS HORRIBLE BLIND SPOTS. POWER STEERING FAILURES RELATED TO ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING COLUMN. IT CUTS OUT INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS FAILED WHILE DRIVING. RESTARTING THE CAR SOMETIMES FIXES ISSUE. FORD HAS STATED OTHER 2011 FORD ESCAPES HAVE A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM- THIS VEHICLE IS NOT RECALLED.
THE STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN IN PARK. NOT SURE IF SAFE TO DRIVE
THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE FORD ESCAPE HYBRID FAILED UNEXPECTEDLY AND WITHOUT WARNING AT ONLY 60K MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AT ONCE AND THE SYSTEM READ "CHECK BRAKES." THE BRAKES FELT LOOSE, AND I TOOK IT A MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY. THEY THOUGHT THAT PRESSURE WAS GETTING SENT UNEVENLY TO BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE, SO THEY FLUSHED THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THEY DISCOVERED TOTAL ABS FAILURE, AND A $3000 FIX ASSOCIATED WITH IT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THERE ARE FACEBOOK GROUPS ADVOCATING FOR A RECALL OF THIS VEHICLE. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE DIDN'T CRASH INTO SOMEONE. THE BRAKES ONLY WORK IF YOU APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO THEM, AND EVEN THEN THEY GET LOOSE AND THE CAR STARTS TO ROLL AWAY. THESE ISSUES ARE BECOMING EXTREMELY PREVALENT NOW IN 2020 THAT THE 2008-2011 ERA OF THIS HYBRID IS GETTING A BIT OLDER. THAT BEING SAID, THIS MODEL ONLY HAS 60K MILES ON IT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD BRAKE FAILURE. THE LAST TWO TIMES I'VE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY.. WHEN IT FAILS, THE CAR BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. FAILED AND RETURNED 4 TIMES IN A 3 MILE TRIP. TWICE WHILE GOING STRAIGHT AT 35MPH AND TWICE WHILE TURNING AT 10MPH OR LESS.

POLICE REPORT; BRUNSWICK, OH 2002113 1/16/2020 UNIT 2 WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON MARKS ROAD. UNIT 3 WAS SOUTH BOUND ON MARKS ROAD ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO SLEEPY HOLLOW ROAD. UNIT 1 WAS TRAVELING SOUTH BOUND ON MARKS ROAD. UNIT 1 CROSSED LEFT OF CENTER TO AVOID HITTING UNIT 3. UNIT 1 STRUCK THE REAR LEFT CORNER OF UNIT 3 AND THEN STRUCK UNIT 2 HEAD ON. DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF UNIT1 REPORTED NO INJURIES, THEY WERE CLEARED BY EMS. DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF UNIT 2 REPORTED INJURIES AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO SOUTHWEST GENERAL (ER) BRUNSWICK CAMPUS. DRIVER OF UNIT 3 REPORTED NO INJURIES. THE DRIVER OF UNIT 1 WAS SITED IN VIOLATION OF ORC 4511.21A ASSURED CLEAR DISTANCE (SPEED). CITATION NUMBER; T44852 THE AIRBAGS IN UNIT 2 DID NOT DEPLOY. AIR BAGS IN UNIT 1 DEPLOYED FRONT AND SIDES. INSURANCE CLAIM NUMBER: PROGRESSIVE 205164024 CAR HAS BEEN RELEASED TO INSURANCE COMPANY. TITLE HAS NOT BEEN SIGNED OVER TO THEM YET. TRANS-COUNTY TOWING, 585 STATE STREET, MEDINA, OH (216-407-5282) SAID THE CAR WAS TOTALED. INSURANCE COMPANY HAS NOT REPORTED THEIR RESULTS OF INSPECTION. I HAVE PHOTO OF CARS AND INJURIES BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO DOWNLOAD THEM. POLICE ALSO TOOK PHOTOS.
I HAVE ONLY OWNED MY PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FOR 3 YEARS AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE DRIVER SIDE FRONT BEARING 2X'S, REAR WIPER MOTOR TWICE AND NOW VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE IN MOTION AND AT STOPS FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS. I HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN FORDS AND FEEL THAT THIS IS SOMETHING WITH THE ASSEMBLY LINE BECAUSE I LEARNED OF ANOTHER FROM THE SAME ASSEMBLY LINE THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS.
DRIVING THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD LAST NIGHT MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP
WHILE DRIVING MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO TURN. THERE WAS NO WARNING. JUST NO LONGER TURNED PROPERLY. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY DONG ABOUT 55 MILES AN HOUR. IF IT HAPPENS WHILE TURNING WITHOUT WARNING THERE WOULD BE AN INCREASE RISK OF CRASHES.
VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING
ON DECEMBER 22, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 6 PM, OUR SON WAS LOADING GROCERIES HE HAD JUST PURCHASED INTO THE BACK OF THE ESCAPE, WHEN HE CLOSED THE REAR LIFT GATE WINDOW, IT SIMPLY SHATTERED INTO SMALL PIECES. MY SON SUFFERED A SMALL ABRASION ON ONE KNUCKLE BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THERE HAD BEEN NO CRACKS OR OTHER SIGNS OF DEFECT IN THE WINDOW. THERE IS A FORD TECHNICAL SERVICES BULLETIN (TSB-11-2-9) ON THIS ISSUE BUT WHEN WE CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND MENTIONED THE TSB, THEY SAID THAT FORD WOULD NOT PAY T O FIX IT AND THAT THE TSB WAS MERELY INSTRUCTIONS TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS ON HOW TO FIX IT. THIS IS BULL. WE ARE AWARE THAT NHTSA HAS RECEIVED MORE THAN 40 COMPLAINS ON THIS ISSUE. OUR SON WAS INJURED, THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

THE CONTACT ALSO TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MONADNOCK FORD (119 MONADNOCK HWY, SWANZEY, NH 03446) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON THE CAR, INITIALLY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE DID ALLOW IT TO WORK FOR A TIME BUT NOW IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. WHEN IT INITIALLY FAILED IT HAPPENED AT SLOW SPEEDS IN A PARKING LOT AS WELL AS AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY. APPEARS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT FORD ATTEMPTED TO FIX WITH A "SOFTWARE" PATCH BUT IT IS CLEAR THAT THERE IS A CRITICAL FLAW IN THE POWER STEERING UNITS IN THESE CARS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN FORD DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

THE REPAIRS COST $3,000. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED WHILE EXITING FROM THE INTERSTATE VEHICLE WENT FROM 65 MPH TO 0 MPH A GRADUAL DECELERATION AND THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING.
