AFTER HAVING THE RECALL 16S41 FUEL DELIVERY MODULE FLANGE REPLACEMENT SERVICE, MY VEHICLE WOULD OCCASIONALLY NOT SUCCESSFULLY START BUT WOULD CONTINUE TO TRY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS SERVICED AND THEY TOOK A LOOK, BUT FOUND NOTHING. LESS THAN TWO MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND I NOTICE NEW ISSUES; VEHICLE CHUGS DOWN THE HIGHWAY ALMOST BOGGY-LIKE; WHEN FILLING WITH GASOLINE THE PUMP STOPS AT 3/4 TANK AND NOT FULL; SPITS GASOLINE BACK OUT; OVERALL SOUNDS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT RUNNING.
2012 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FAILED TRANSMISSION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE REVERSE OPTION FAILING WHILE DRIVING. *JS
MY 2012 FORD ESACPE KEEPS STALLING WHILE I AM DRIVING AND FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I AM A 68 YEAR OLD WIDOW AND THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANPORTATION. IT HAS DONE THIS 5 TIMES IN LESS THEN A MONTH.I CAN BE DRIVING 45 MILES AN HOUR AND IT WILL STALL AND AT THAT TIME I CANNOT ACCELERATE,I HAVE TO PRAY AND TRY TO COAST OUT OF TRAFFIC. I PULL OVER AND WHILE THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING THE WRENCH DASHBOARD LIGHT COMES ON. I SHUT IT OFF AND RESTART IT AND IT RUNS NORMALLY UNTIL THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS WHICH I NEVER KNOW WHEN THAT WILL BE.
OCCASIONALLY WHEN FUELING THE PUMP WILL STOP PREMATURELY. THE DASH WILL SAY IT'S FULL BUT 5 MILES LATER YOUR AT 3/4 TANK. AND TOPPING OFF IS ILLEGAL SO THERE'S NOT A WAY TO GET PAST IT. CAR WAS OFF, PARKED, AND NEXT TO A GAS STATION PUMP.
REAR HATCH DOOR LEAKS WATER WHEN IT RAINS AND ALSO WHEN WASHING CAR. THE HATCH LOCKS UP AND WILL NOT OPEN. I HAVE PAID FOR THE REPAIR ON 2 OCCASIONS AND NOW IT HAS LOCKED UP AGAIN AND WILL NOT OPEN. THIS IS A DEFECT AND ALSO A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT AND NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH US SAFETY STANDARDS. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL LOCATIONS. IT HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN TUCSON,AZ AND NOW A THIRD TIME HERE IN CA ON 06/12/2019.
BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ON NO ABS
ON APPROXIMATELY MAY 25, 2019, I WAS AT A LOCAL GAS STATION TO FILL UP MY VEHICLE, A 2012 FORD ESCAPE XLT, WITH GAS. WHILE FILLING THE GAS TANK TO FULL, THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF FAILED CAUSING GAS TO FORCEFULLY SPLASH BACK OUT OF THE GAS TANK, ONTO ME AND THE GROUND NEXT TO THE GAS PUMP. THE ATTENDANT AT THE GAS STATION FOLLOWED THEIR PROTOCOL FOR A GAS SPILL. I FILLED UP THE GAS TAKE AT OTHER LOCAL GAS STATIONS AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. ON JUNE 5, 2019 I SCHEDULED A REPAIR AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. I PAID FOR A FAULTY VENT VALVE AND A SOLENOID ASY TO BE REPLACED FOR $ 463.08. THEY STATED ON MY RECEIPT THAT THEY ADDED 6 GALLONS OF GAS TO CONFIRM THE REPAIR. A WEEK LATER I REFUELED MY VEHICLE IN ANOTHER CITY, AND THE PROBLEM WITH THE GAS OVERFLOWING CONTINUED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP JULY 5, 2019, AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. THEY TOLD ME THEY DROPPED THE GAS TANK AND TESTED THE COMPONENTS AND TOLD ME IT WAS A FAULTY VALVE. THEY INFORMED ME "THEY TALKED TO DETROIT" AND I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE "GAS TANK ASSEMBLY" AND I WOULD BE GIVEN A "DISCOUNT" ON THE REPAIR SINCE I HAD PAID ALMOST $500 FOR THE FIRST REPAIR. THE ESTIMATE FOR THE SECOND REPAIR WAS $1,000. I ASKED OF THERE WAS A WARRANTY ON THE REPAIR THAT WAS DONE PREVIOUSLY, AND WAS TOLD NO. I DID NOT GET THE REPAIR DONE THIS TIME BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CORRECTED AND WASN'T. THERE APPARENTLY IS NOT WARRANTY ON THE REPAIR THAT WAS DONE. I AM SHOCKED THAT IT WILL COST AN ESTIMATED $1,000 MORE TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT THEY SAID WAS FIXED, AND POSSIBLY NO GUARANTEE ON THE REPAIRS. AFTER CONTACTING THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY IN MICHIGAN, I WAS TOLD THE INDIVIDUAL DEALERSHIPS ARE IN CHARGE OF THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THAT FORD CORPORATE COULDN'T HELP WITH MY PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THIS AGENCY AND WAS GIVEN THIS CASE NUMBER-11234836.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Escape. The contact stated that when he arrived to work and was attempting to exit the vehicle, the driver’s side seat belt failed to unlatch after several attempts. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that he leaned the seat backward and crawled out of the seat. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact also stated that the hatchback also would not close securely. The contact stated that he disassembled the hatchback and attempted to repair the locking mechanism. The contact stated he was able to close the hatchback, but the hatchback would no longer open. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
PULLING OUT FROM A RED LIGHT, THE CAR MADE A WHIRRING NOISE AND HESITATED TO MOVE THEN STARTED JUMPING WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED. DROVE CAR APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES AND THE CAR MADE THE NOISE, HESITATED AND STARTED JUMPING AGAIN. MADE TO A PARKING LOT AND PARKED CAR. A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID THE TRANSMISSION IS LOCKED IN HIGH GEAR.
THE CAR HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION DEALING WITH THE FUEL ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT MY CAR SEEMS TO BE LOOSING MILES OR FUEL. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK WITH FUELING CODES.
FRONT SEATBELTS DO NOT LOCK OR CATCH OR WORK CORRECTLY. IF IN ACCIDENT OR STOPPING SUDDENLY THE SEATBELTS DO NOT CATCH THE PASSENGERS
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE STEERING LOCKS UP. I HAVE TO PULL THE CALL OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART THE CAR SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE POWER STEERING COMES BACK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM. WHY WAS THIS NOT A RECALL?

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VALLEY FORD (509-453-3125, LOCATED AT 910 S 1ST ST, YAKIMA, WA 98901) WHERE THE VENT VALVE AND SOLENOID WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER, BUT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,364.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN PARKED AND ENGINE RUNNING AND SMELL OF RAW GAS FUMES NEAR LEFT REAR WHEEL AREA. SHOP TESTED FOUND CODE P0456 TRACED TO CRACKED AND LEAKING ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. REPLACED PUMP NOW OK . IN CHECKING I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL #16S41 FOR 2012 ESCAPE WITH V6 ENGINE , MY CAR IS A 4 CYL . NOT INCL. IN RECALL BUT PRODUCED IN SAME PRODUCTION SEQUENCE PRODUCTION DATE 8-11 SALES DATE 11-19-2011 THE ABOVE RECALL WAS FOR LEAKING FUEL PUMP .I BELIEVE MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED ALSO . I CONTACTED DEALER THEY REFERRED ME TO FORD CO. FILED CASE #CAS-21767319 ON 5-29-19 FORD SAID NO RECALL ,SORRY NO HELP WITH REPAIR BILL .I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AS A SAFETY HAZARD ALSO COVERED UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY 8 YEAS OR 80,000 MILES I WROTE TO DEALER 9-12-2019 NO RESPONSE CAR HAD 79.795 AT TIME OF REPAIR. I STILL HAVE THE CAR AND THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP IF INSPECTION IS REQUIRED. THIS CONDITION WAS ON PUBLIC STREET AND PRIVATE PROPERTY MOVING AND STATIONARY. MY CAR COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A FIRE IF THE CAUSE OF THE FUEL LEAK WASN'T DETECTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOMBALL FORD (281-378-3160, LOCATED AT 22702 TOMBALL PKWY, TOMBALL, TX 77375) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,000.
THE AREA OF MOST CONCERN IS THE ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. EIGHT MONTHS AGO, I SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING JUST AFTER EXITING A FREEWAY. NOW IT IS MAKING THE SAME SOUND AGAIN AND MY MECHANIC FEELS THE WHEEL MAY LOCK COMPLETELY.I DRIVE MOUNTAIN PASSES, WHICH MAKES THIS EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS. CONTACT WITH LOCAL AND CORPORATE FORD SAYS IT IS MY PROBLEM TO GET IT OVER AN HOUR AWAY TO THE DEALER, AND REPAIR WILL BE AT MY EXPENSE, EVEN THOUGH MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, I LEARNED ONLY AFTER CONTACTING FORD ABOUT THE STEERING ISSUE, THAT THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE FUEL MODULE, WHICH COULD CAUSE FIRE. I RECEIVED NO NOTICE OF THIS UNTIL I REPORTED THE STEERING ISSUE TO THE COMPANY. THE DEALER TELLS ME IT WILL TAKE FOUR WEEKS TO GET THE PARTS TO FIX THE SAFETY RECALL. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM LOSING INCOME EVERY DAY AS I DRIVE FOR A LIVING. NO CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF ME, MY FAMILY, OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD.
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH DURING MORNING TRAFFIC DURING RAIN COVERED ROAD. MY TRACTION STABILITY AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING TO A DOCTOR APPT AND SAW THE WARNING LIGHT COME ON. I APPLIED LIGHT PRESSURE TO MY BRAKES AND GRADUALLY CAME TO A STOP. MY CAR HAS 115,000 MILES WHEN FAIL HAPPENED
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN MY ESCAPE XLT AWD HAS FAILED AT 142,742 MILES. DEALER AND TRANSMISSION SHOP HAVE ADVISED THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. FORD KNOWS THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAILING PREMATURELY AND FORD SHOULD REPAIR, REPLACE THEM AND REIMBURSE IF SOMEONE HAS ALREADY HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT A DEALER OR REPAIR SHOP. ONE CAN GO ONLINE AND PERFORM A GOOGLE, BING OR YAHOO SEARCH AND SEE A PLEATHERA OF ESCAPE TRANSMISSIONS THAT HAVE FAILED PREMATURELY.
I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN AT A SLOW RATE WHEN MY BRAKING FEEL LIKE THERE WAS BORN ABS AND MY CAR WAS GETTING TO CLOSE AND I APPLIED PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL BUT IT WOULDN'T STOP. MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY STIFF AND COULDN'T TURN IT. AN HOUR LATER, I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY ABS, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON. MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN WELL AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF PASSING A VEHICLE. I HAD NO BRAKES AT THAT POINT. THIS HAPPENED APRIL 20, 2019. CLEAR ROAD CONDITIONS. MY ESCAPE IS BECOMING A BIG SAFETY CONCERN. WHEN BRAKING I FEEL MY SYSTEM KEEPS SLIPPING IN THE FRONT END AND A SAGGING IN THE REAR. WHEN I DRIVE IT, I AM TERRIFIED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND WON'T BE ABLE TO STOP. TURNING FEELINGS RIGID AND STIFF AT TIMES. A CAR HAD PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND HAD TO DO A HARD STOP ON THE INTERSTATE. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES BUT THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT STOP AND STEERING WOULDN'T ALLOW TO TURN. I HAD TO TURN A HARSH RIGHT TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE 1ST DAY I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 26 MAY 2016 FROM GLENBROOK HYUNDAI IN FORT WAYNE, IN.
IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT, AFTER EXECUTING A 90 DEGREE LEFT TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT AND WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED IN ORDER TO SLOW THEN STOP THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. YOU COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REV UP AS IT SURGED FORWARD. APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOTHING TO SLOW IT DOWN. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS JARRED BY STRIKING THE CURB THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL IDOL. SO MUCH POWER WAS APPLIED IN THE SURGE THAT THE VEHICLE JUMPED A CURB, TRAVELED OVER A A GRASS PLOT AND STRUCK ANOTHER CAR ON THE OTHER SIDE. OUR FORD ESCAPE SUFFERED FRONT END DAMAGE (TOWARD DRIVERS SIDE) AND THE OTHER VEHICLE (A FORD ECO -BOOST) SUFFERED FRONT AND DRIVERS SIDE DAMAGE. NOTE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING FORWARD AT ABOUT ONE MPH (ALMOST TO A FULL STOP) WHEN THE SURGE OCCURRED. AS IT SURGED THE SPEED INCREASED RAPIDLY TO ABOUT SEVEN TO TEN MPH. THE VEHICLES WERE NOT TOWED AT THE TIME BUT WHEN DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE HOME A SEVERE DEFECT IN THE STEERING (PULL TO THE LEFT) WAS NOTICED MAKING IT VIRTUALLY INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED FROM OUR DRIVEWAY TO THE BODY SHOP.
GOING DOWN THE ROAD, AND ALL THE SUDDEN MY GAUGES DROPPED, EXCEPT FOR FUEL. MY INITIAL REACTION WAS TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL TO SEE IF I'D LOST ENGINE POWER. I STILL HAD ENGINE POWER, THANKFULLY. SINCE THEN, W/O ANY WARNINGS THE GAUGES WILL DROP, AND ALL THE SENSOR LIGHTS WILL COME ON WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS, AND HAD THEM TO PUT IT ON THEIR MACHINE TO SEE IF IT WOULD CODE. IT CODED FOR P-1602. BATTERY TESTED FINE. LOOKED UP ON YOU TUBE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND FOUND THIS VIDEO. IN THE VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY 2012 ESCAPE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IF YOU HIT THE DASH WITH YOU FIST, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES COME BACK UP, SO SEEMS TO BE IN THE WIRING, NOT BATTERY RELATED. MILEAGE, AND INFORMATION CENTER, STILL HASN'T CAME BACK UP. THIS PROBLEM IS ON GOING, AND WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM FORD IF THIS IS COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY.
MY VEHICLE MAKES LOUD NOISE WHEN I DRIVE FROM THE WHEEL BARREL
2 MONTHS AGO WE HAD TO STOP IMMEDIATELY TO GO INTO A SHOP BECAUSE OUR CAR WAS MAKING A HORRIBLE LOUD NOISE AND WE COULD BARELY MOVE THE CAR. THE BRAKES HAD LOCKED INTO THE PISTONS AND THE PISTONS WERE CRACKED AND EVERYTHING INVOLVING THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING THE CALIBERS. YESTERDAY 5/30/19 WE TOOK IT IN AND YET AGAIN THE BRAKES ARE LOCKED AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING THE CALIBERS. DRIVER DOOR SEAL (TOP) LEAKS TO THE POINT OF THERE BEING 2 INCHES OF WATER ON DRIVER FLOOR. ALSO WATER IS GETTING INSIDE THE DOOR, WHICH IS CAUSING ELECTRICAL ISSUES. HAD IT REPAIRED 3 TIMES AT DEALER & LEAK STILL EXISTS. THIS IS CAUSING MOLD & RUST IN THE VEHICLE. NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER OR THE INEXCUSABLE REPAIR WORK OF ATLANTIC AUTOMALL, BUT IT'S BECOMING A REAL SAFETY ISSUE & ATLANTIC AUTOMALL HAS BEEN REFUSING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE OR EVEN RESPOND TO MY CALLS
LOUD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE AT IDLE AND WHILE DRIVING. SOUNDS AS THOUGH VALVES OR ENGINE COULD BE CRACKING.
PREHEATED THE CAR FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE LEAVNG FOR WORK IN -8 DEGREE WEATHER. TRIED TO PULL OUT ONTO HIGHWAY AND STEEERING WENT OUT. HAD TO REALLY MANHANDLE WHEEL TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO THE ROAD. THOUGHT MAYBE THERE WAS SNOWIN WHHEL WELL OR SOMETHING. I OULLED OVER TO LOOK, WHHEELS WERE CLEAR. TRIED DRVING FORWARD INTO A ROUND ABOUTAND ALMOST MISSED THE CURVE. VERY SCARY,STEERING BECAME EVEN WORSE SO BROUGHT THE CAR HOME AND PARKED IT.CAR DOES NOT STEER IN MOTION OR STATIONARY WITH ENGINE RUNNING.

I FEEL THERE IS SO FAILURE OR DETACHMENT OF EXTERIOR BODY AND FRAME COMPONENTS, AND OTHER STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS THAT MAY PRESENT A SAFETY HAZARD

MY POWER STEERING IS RANDOMLY GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING. AFTER TAKING IT TO A SHOP AND HAVING IT INSPECTED THEY TOLD ME THAT THE COMPUTER FORGOT HOW TO DRIVE IN A WAY. SO THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. THAT NIGHT MY ESCAPE DID THE SAME THING ON MY WAY TO WORK WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I GOT OUT OF WORK IN THE MORNING AND IT WAS FINE. VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (70MPH) WHEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HOOD LATCHES FAILED AND HOOD WAS BLOWN OPEN INTO THE WINDSHIELD. THIS WAS AFTER 5+ HOURS OF HIGHWAY TRAVEL WITHOUT ANY RECENT OPERATION OF THE INTERIOR HOOD LATCH RELEASE. EMERGENCY STOP WAS MADE TO SECURE HOOD. HOOD IS DAMAGED AND UNABLE TO CLOSE. BODY ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD IS ALSO DAMAGED FROM THE HOOD IMPACT.
POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH NO WARNING. IT WAS STILL POSSIBLE, ALTHOUGH VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS PRESENTS A MAJOR HAZARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. A RECALL EXISTS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM 2008-2011.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE SENSOR. I MENTIONED THE RECALL ON THE 2011S AND THE GUY BLEW IT OFF...THANKFULLY THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 2500.00. INSTEAD IT ONLY COST ME 775.00.

THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE.

POWER STEERING FAILED TWICE ON OUR 2012 FORD ESCAPE AT APPROXIMATELY 66,000 MILES. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ON A SERIES OF WINDY BACK ROADS, SHORTLY AFTER SETTING OUT, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED AND BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. IT WAS POSSIBLE BUT DIFFICULT AND VERY UNSAFE. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT YET ON THE HIGHWAY. RECALLS EXIST FOR PREVIOUS YEARS THAT DOCUMENT THE SAME ISSUE BUT ONE HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS YEAR/MODEL, LEAVING MANY UNSAFE CARS ON THE ROAD. PARTS ALONE FOR THE REPAIR WERE QUOTED AT $900.

ON OCTOBER 26, 2018, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WAITING TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I PROCEEDED TO MAKE MY TURN, MY WHEEL WAS TIGHT AND LOCKED INTO ONE POSITION. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT. I DROVE ABOUT ONE MILE BEFORE I COULD SAFELY TURN IT INTO A PARKING LOT. I HAD TO USE ALL MY STRENGTH TO TURN IT AND STRAIGHTEN IT OUT. I SAT IN THE CAR FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES WHILE MAKING SOME PHONE CALLS TO FAMILY MEMBERS ABOUT MY SITUATION. AT ONE POINT, I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED 5 MINUTES AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS WORKING. VERY SCARY SITUATION. I DROVE IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS A STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTION B2278 CODE 100.427. SINCE MY MECHANIC CLEARED THE CODE, 3 SEPARATE FORD DEALERS REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT WITHOUT AN ACTIVE CODE. SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND HOLDING MY BREATH EACH TIME I MAKE A TURN AND KEEP LOOKING FOR THE STRAIGHTEST PATH WHEREVER I GO. BUT LUCKY FOR ME, ON DECEMBER 24, STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND COULDN'T START CAR FROM A PARKED POSITION. HOPING THIS INCIDENT IS RELATED TO THE FIRST. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE CAR, NOTHING. I WAITED 5 MINUTES AND THE CAR STARTED. MY WHEEL WAS TURNED SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT AS I WAS PARKED ON A DOWNWARD INCLINE. HOPING THE TWO INCIDENTS ARE RELATED SO I CAN GET THIS NERVE WRACKING SITUATION REPAIRED. ALSO FILED FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH FORD CORPORATION.
