I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND NOTICE WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM MY EXHAUST PIPES AND SMELLED BURNING. AS I DROVE THE SMOKE STOPPED UNTIL I CAME TO A REST. 2 DAYS LATER AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET THE WARNING SIGN CAME ON STATING VEHICLE IS OVERHEATING I PULLED OVER AND NOTICE THE VEHICLE WAS HOT. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHOM STATED THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE COOLANT COMPARTMENT AND THAT THE COOLANT WAS BURNING OUT. CAUSING IT TO HAVE WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM EXHAUST AND OVERHEATING
BACKUP CAMERA MALFUNCTION. MESSAGE APPEARS: ! CAMERA IS UNAVAILABLE. CONTACT YOUR DEALERSHIP. WHEN SHIFTING TO REVERSE SOMETIMES THE BACKUP CAMERA DOESN'T APPEAR ON THE SCREEN. THE MESSAGE ABOVE APPEARS AND IT'S A BLANK BLACK SCREEN.
VEHICLE IN PARK, IN PARKING LOT, STARTED, NOTIFICATION CAME UP ON SCREEN " STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED" LOCKED UP SO TIGHT I COULDN'T MOVE MY WHEELS AT ALL. IF MY CAR WERE TO DO THIS ON THE HIGHWAY AND A HIGH SPEED I WOULD END UP CRASHING. THE COST TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS AROUND $2,400.00
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while reversing, the back-over prevention camera malfunctioned, and displayed a blue screen, creating a visibility hazard for the driver. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the back over prevention camera needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 50,000.
WHEN I START UP MY TRUCK IT SAYS STEEL WHEEL DEFAULT AND IT WILL NOT TURN ..IT DOES IT EVERY OTHER DAY IM SCARED THAT IT WILL LOCK UP ON ME WHY I AM DRIVING
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSIONS. MY 15 FORD ESCAPE HAS ONLY 77,000 AND WITH NO WORRYING THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THE REPAIR FOR A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT ISN'T CHEAP. AFTER ASKING AROUND I FOUND OUT THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH FORD ESCAPES HAVE HAD THEIR TRANSMISSION GO OUT NORMALLY WITH LOW MILEAGE. I WAS PLANNING ON KEEPING MY ESCAPE FOR YEARS TO COME BUT INSTEAD DUE TO THE HIGH REPAIR COST I'M HAVING TO TRADE. I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER FORD! I JUST HOPE FOR FUTURE OR CURRENT FORD ESCAPE OWNERS THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. WHEN IT'S JUST ONE VEHICLE YOU THINK MISFORTUNE BUT MULTIPLE VEHICLES MAKES IT A PROBLEM! THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GENESEE VALLEY FORD, LLC (1675 INTERSTATE DR, AVON, NY 14414; (585) 226-2600) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
HARD SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND. FORD TSB CLAIMS THIS HAPPENS WHEN COLD. BUT FOR ME IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
SHIFT SELECTOR CABLE BUSHING IS BROKEN. THIS ALLOWS THE TRANSMISSION TO BE IN NEUTRAL WHILE THE SHIFTER IS IN PARK. THE CAR WILL ROLL AWAY IF EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NOT SET. THE OPPOSITE IS POSSIBLE AS WELL. THE TRANSMISSION COULD BE IN DRIVE BUT LOOKS LIKE IT IS IN PARK. CAR COULD DRIVE OFF.

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical safety issue I recently encountered with my 2015 Ford Escape. I am deeply concerned about the lack of response and accountability from Ford regarding this matter, and I kindly request your assistance in addressing this potentially life-threatening problem. During a recent incident, my vehicle's power steering suddenly failed, rendering the car extremely difficult to maneuver. The lack of power steering made it nearly impossible for me to maintain a straight line, let alone perform any evasive maneuvers to avoid potential hazards on the road. Fortunately, this incident occurred in a drive-thru, and my children were not present in the vehicle at the time. I dread to think of the consequences if this failure had happened while driving at higher speeds or in a more critical situation. Upon taking my car to the Ford dealership for inspection and repair, I was shocked to learn that the power steering issue is not covered under my warranty. The dealership informed me that because my vehicle has exceeded 60,000 miles and is now over four years old, it falls outside the warranty coverage. I find it deeply troubling that Ford refuses to acknowledge the obvious flaw in the design of the car's power steering system, especially when comparable Ford models such as the 2011-2013 Fusion have been recalled for the exact same issue. As a loyal Ford customer, I implore you to thoroughly investigate and address this widespread problem, not only for my own sake but also for the safety and well-being of countless other Ford owners who may be facing similar risks. This dangerous design flaw poses a significant threat to drivers and their passengers, and it is utterly irresponsible for Ford to shirk responsibility and shift the financial burden onto the customers.
I HAVE A 2015 FORD ESCAPE THAT HAS LESS THEN 51,000 MILES. FORD'S POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS 5 YRS OR 60,000 MILES AND ITS CURRENTLY ONLY 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. ALL OIL CHANGES WERE COMPLETED AT FIRESTONE AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP COMPLETED THE 30,000 MILE SERVICE AS RECOMMENDED. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. THE RPM'S JUMPED TO AROUND 5,000 AS I PRESSED THE PEDAL BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE. FOR SAFETY REASONS, I HAD TO QUICKLY EXIT THE HIGHWAY WITH MY HAZARDS ON WHILE TRYING TO AVOID THE SEMI TRAVELING BEHIND ME FROM CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. UPON EXITING THE HIGHWAY, I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SPEED OF 10MPH AND COME TO A STOP AT THE LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, BUT AROUND 15MPH, THE RPM'S JUMPED ONCE AGAIN AND I LOST ACCELERATION. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ONTO A SIDE STREET AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. RIGHT AS I DID THAT A 'TRANSMISSION FAILURE SERVICE NOW' LIGHT APPEAR. FOLLOWING THAT, A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND THE ENGINE MADE SOME LOUD NOISES. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. ONCE A TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, HE STARTED THE VEHICLE (NO CHECK ENGINE OR FAILURE LIGHTS APPEARED) AND HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE FLAT BED. IT WAS TOWED TO FORD WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED 3 TRANSMISSION FAILURES (TRANSMISSION PUMP, TORQUE CONVERTER, REGULATOR VALVE). THIS CREATED A VERY SUDDEN AND UNSAFE SITUATION. HOW DOES A VEHICLE WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE (HAVE ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION) SUDDENLY FAIL WHILE DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY CITY HIGHWAY? IN MY MIND, THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, YOU CAN FIND MANY TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THE 2013 - 2014 MODELS. WOULDN'T MY ENGINE BE THE SAME AS THE PREVIOUS YEARS? THIS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING EVALUATED BY A DIFFERENT SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION. PREVIOUS COMPLAINT #11363400 DID NOT LET ME ENTER FULL VIN#. THIS IS THE SAME COMPLAINT.

WITHIN A WEEK OF REPLACING INNER & OUTER TIE RODS, A STEERING FAULT, SERVICE NOW MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE INFORMATION DISPLAY ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2020. AT TIME VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN WITHIN 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT ON A FOUR LANE NORFOLK, VIRGINIA CITY STREET. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ABOUT A MILE FURTHER TO A SAFE PARKING SPOT. AFTER STOPPING AND CHECKING THE MANUAL, VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED ACCORDING TO MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS. THE MESSAGE CHANGED TO STEERING LOSS, STOP SAFELY. WE CONFERRED WITH THE CARMASTERS SERVICE CENTER THAT PERFORMED THE TIE ROD REPLACEMENT. AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION ON AGAIN, THE STEERING LOSS, STOP SAFELY MESSAGE REMAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO CARMASTERS, UPON THEIR ADVICE, FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BINDING OF THE STEERING RACK AND PINION. DIAGNOSTIC TEST FAULT CODE C 102D WAS REPORTED. INSPECTION TO CONFIRM DAMAGE WAS ALSO REPORTED. RECOMMENDED REPAIR WAS REPLACEMENT OF POWER ASSIST STEERING RACK AND PINION, FOLLOWED BY FRONT END ALIGNMENT. COST ESTIMATE WAS $3,200 FOR FORD DEALER SUPPLIED REPLACEMENT RACK & PINION ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION. FORTUNATELY NO PERSONAL INJURY RESULTED. VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE WITH GREAT EFFORT WITHOUT POWER ASSIST. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CALLED ON SEPTEMBER 29 TO CONFIRM INCREASING FREQUENCY OF SUCH ASSISTED STEERING FAILURE, AS NOTED IN NHTSA POSTING AND GENERAL INTERNET POSTINGS. APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY FAILURE ON A VEHICLE OF 45,744 MILES WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE. WE HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY INCIDENT THAT WOULD HAVE DAMAGED THE RACK AND PINION IN THE OVER 2 YEARS WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE, DURING WHICH WE DROVE ABOUT 30,000 MILES. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISED WE WOULD BE UNLIKELY TO GET ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR, UNLESS THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY A FORD AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER AND THE NHTSA RULED THE RACK AND PINION POWER ASSIST WAS FAULTY.
TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. ALSO DOES NOT SHIFT THROUGH THE SPEEDS AND THE RPM REACHES 5000. SHIFTING IS UNPREDICTABLE AND VERY GLITCHY. DANGEROUS IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS BECAUSE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. REVERSE TO FORWARD DIRECTION IS UNPREDICTABLE. WORSE IN COLD CONDITIONS. CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. CONDITION HAS WORSENED AND NOW NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 64,000 KM.
MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE: WARNING LIGHT 'ENGINE FAULT - SERVICE NOW' THAT WOULD GO AWAY WHEN I STOPPED/RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENED 2-3 TIMES. DEALER SERVICE REP SAID IT WASN'T A PROBLEM UNLESS THE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE CAR RAN WELL AT ALL TIMES. TWO WEEKS LATER THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON EVERY DAY, BUT DISAPPEAR WHEN RESTARTING. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN (CAPITAL FORD 4222 OLEANDER DR. WILMINGTON, NC) AND DIAGNOSIS SHOWED A COOLANT LEAK INTO ENGINE CYLINDER #3. DEALER STATES THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE, BUT PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATE. PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE OF REPAIR IS $9,242.81. (THIS IS APP $2,000 LESS THAN THE TRADE IN VALUE OF THE VEHICLE)
THE SHIFTER OF MY 2015 FORD ESCAPE WAS STUCK IN 'S' POSITION TWO DAYS AGO WHEN I JUST STARTED MY CAR. THE SHIFTER HANDLE WAS ACTUALLY IN P POSITION. I HAD TO CALL TOWING COMPANY AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT IS MY SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING DETERIORATED AND UNABLE TO ALLOW SHIFT CABLE TO COME LOOSE TO CHANGE SHIFT. FORD PREVIOUSLY HAD A RECALL FOR 2013-2014 ESCAPE MODEL FOR THE SAME BUSHING PROBLEMS NOT INCLUDING 2015 MODELS. BUT A LOT PEOPLE POSTED THREADS ONLINE SAYING THEIR 2015 MODEL ALSO HAVE THAT PROBLEMS. SOME CUSTOMER GOT IT FIXED FREE OF CHARGE AND MOST CUSTOMERS DID NOT. I CONTACTED WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS UP TO THE DEALER WHETHER TO ALLOW REIMBURSEMENT BUT THIS SHOULD BE DEFINITELY BE RECALLED BECAUSE THIS CAN BE A BIG SAFETY CONCERN.

THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDNENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
ON 09/05/2020, I ENCOUNTERED THE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT - SERVICE REQUIRED" ERROR MESSAGE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING MECHANISM. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE ATTRIBUTED TO SAFETY RECALL# 19S26 PERTAINING TO SIMILAR VEHICLES (FORD EDGE, ETC) OF THIS MODEL YEAR. THE ISSUE GENERATES FROM INADEQUATE WAX COATING ON THE BOLTS ATTACHING THE STEERING GEAR MOTOR, CAUSING IT TO DETACH FROM THE HOUSING. THIS RESULTS IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING CAPABILITIES, CREATING A POTENTIAL CRASH HAZARD IF OCCURRING WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. MY VEHICLE HAS 37142 MILES (VERY LOW FOR THE MODEL YEAR) AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AS WELL AS DRIVEN WITH GREAT CARE AND ATTENTION TO PROLONGING ITS OVERALL LIFESPAN AND GENERAL CONDITION. THE ISSUE CAME TO PASS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE ERROR MESSAGE AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRING WHILE PARKED AND STARTING UP SAID VEHICLE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER ONLINE COMPLAINTS OF THIS EXACT INCIDENT RELATING TO THIS MODEL YEAR AND SPECIFIC VEHICLE, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER. IN MOST INSTANCES IT APPEARS THE CONSUMER IS EXPECTED TO ABSORB THE REPAIR COSTS, WHICH CAN RUN UPWARDS OF $2000 - 3000 OR MORE - UP TO AND INCLUDING REBUILDING THE ENTIRE STEERING SYSTEM. THIS IS SUSPECT BEHAVIOR GIVEN THE LACK OF OWNERSHIP OF THE ROOT CAUSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND LEADS ONE TO BELIEVE DEALERSHIPS MAY BE UNFAIRLY PROFITING FROM NEEDLESS REPAIRS GIVEN THE SERIOUS NATURE OF THE FAULT IN QUESTION.
POWER STEERING ISSUES BEGAN RANDOMINGLY AROUND 70,000 MILES. IT LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING LEAVING YOU WITH NO POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURS RANDOMLY AND WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. IT GENERALLY OCCURS FOR A FEW MILES AND THEN GOES BACK TO "NORMAL" POWER STEERING. IT'S HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW WITH NO WARNING OR DASH LIGHTS LIGHTING UP. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME, I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHILE GOING AROUND A SHARP CURVE, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS . WE WERE TOLD THAT OLDER MODELS OF FORD ESCAPES WERE RECALLED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT THE 2015. COST TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING SENSOR WAS ABOUT $4,000.

BOARDWALK AVE, KANSAS CITY, MO 64154, (816) 505-1818 AND THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

THE FORD DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL SENSOR, BUT WITH IN A YEAR THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE FUEL SENSOR WAS AGAIN REPLACED A SECOND TIME AND IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS IT HAPPENED AGAIN. INITIALLY IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THEN IT FEELS LIKE THE FUEL IS NOT BEING INJECTED PROPERLY WHILE IN MOTION AND AFTER STOPPING.
STOPPED AT SECURITY GATE, PASSENGER GOT OUT AND OPENED THE GATE. I DROVE THROUGH THE GATE, PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND BACKED UP 10 FEET TO LET THE PASSENGER GET IN AFTER CLOSING AND LOCKING GATE. PLACED THE SHIFTER IN DRIVE AND EXPECTED TO MOVE FORWARD AND IT STILL BACKED UP. PLACED THE SHIFTER IN REVERSE AGAIN AND BACK TO DRIVE AND IT STILL BACKED UP. PLACED THE SHIFTER IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE MOTOR AND IT STILLED ROLLED FORWARD ON THE SLIGHT DOWN HILL. HAD TO USE THE HAND BRAKE TO HOLD THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. TURNED OFF KEY. TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND EVERY TIME THE ALARM SAID CAR WAS IN REVERSE. WHEN KEY WAS TURNED ON THE BACK UP LIGHTS AND BACK UP ASSIST SCREEN CAME ON. LOADED VEHICLE UP ON FLAT BED TRAILER AND TOWED IT HOME. CALLED FORD DEALER ON MONDAY MORNING AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS FIXED BY USING THE PARTS FROM FORD RECALL 18S20 TO REPAIR THE CAR. FORD SAID THERE IS NO RECALL FOR 2015 FORD ESCAPE. ASSEMBLY DATE OF VEHICLE IS 10/14 . I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD READ ABOUT ROOF RACK ISSUES WITH THE ESCAPE WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED. IT STILL IS LEAKING AFTER RAIN. IT HAPPENS IN THE RAIN WHETHER THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. WHEN THE PUMP FAILS IT SHOOTS SHRAPNEL INTO MY TURBO THEN INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE THAT WILL COST ME $5000-8000 TO FIX NOW. I HAVE SEEN OTHER FORD MODELS WITH THIS PROBLEM THAT HAVE RECALLS ALREADY BUT NOT MY SPECIFIC MAKE AN MODEL.

The back-up camera in my vehicle will operate for a few moments - if the weather is below 50 degrees or if you are parked in a shady area - but it will just cut-off. The system is working and all the fuses are good but the back-up camera only works intermitted. I am reporting this as an issue on the 2015 Ford Escape since I found there is an active recall for the same problem on new models. This needs to be addressed- when backing-if you use the reverse camera and it goes out in the middle of the back-up it can be dangerous.

FORTUNATELY, IN BOTH INSTANCES I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO THE SHOULDER INTO A PARKING LOT AND AVOID CAUSING A WRECK OR BEING WRECKED INTO. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! I TRIED OUR SPARE KEY, AND RECEIVED SAME NOTIFICATION. VEHICLE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MOVE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK INTO NEUTRAL TO BE TOWED. STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. ABANDONED VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS, RETURNED TO VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE STARTED. TO CLARIFY, EVERYTHING LISTED HERE HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES AND ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS SO FAR.
