VEHICLE EXPERIENCES UNINTENDED SUDDEN DECELERATIONS - WHEN DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WILL COAST TO A STOP, REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. TROUBLE CODES INDICATE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR BEING FAULTY. DESPITE FORD EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND THROTTLE BODY, THEY DID NOT COVER THE EXPLORERS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE TRUCK OVERHEATED AT 65 MPH I GOT OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT AND STOP THE TRUCK NEXT THING I NOTICE IS SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD THEN I CALL A TOW TRUCK TO GO TO A LOCAL SHOP NOW THE MECHANIC SAY I NEED A NEW ENGINE,I DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE AND THE LABOR THE TRUCK IS NOT EVEN PAY OFF YET, UNBELIEVABLE, NOW THAT I READ UP ON THIS THIS HAPPEN TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT HASN'T BEEN RECALL YET SMH
WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE TWO YEARS AGO I NOTICED A WATER LEAK WHICH RAN DOWN THE 3RD ROW SEAT BELTS. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY WEREN'T GOING TO COVER THE REPAIR, BUT AFTER SOME HELP FROM MY SERVICE ADVISER THEY COVERED MOST OF IT. NOW, 2 YEARS LATER, IT IS LEAKING AGAIN AND WORSE. MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT FLOORBOARD FILLS WITH WATER WHEN IT RAINS. WATER IS ALSO LEAKING FROM THE HEADLINER AND DRIPPING ON THE ELECTRONICS IN THE CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL. AND THE LEAK AT THE 3RD ROW SEAT BELTS IS BACK. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT IT IS THE SUNROOF CAUSING THE PROBLEM. FORD SAYS THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A RECALL SO IT WILL NOT BE COVERED BY THEM. I'M FURIOUS THAT SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR WOULD HAVE THIS RECURRING ISSUE AND FORD TURNS A BLIND EYE. THERE ARE REPORTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS NOT AN UNKNOWN ISSUE, JUST ONE THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY FORD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). SHULTS FORD OF HARMARVILLE (1300 GULF LAB RD, PITTSBURGH, PA 15238) ONLY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, BUT HAD NOT REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE STEERING RACK FAILED. THE DEALER WANTED THE VEHICLE OWNER TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STEERING REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *TT CONSUMER STATED STEERING WENT OUT, VEHICLE ALMOST HIT 2 PARKED CARS BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. *JB
DRIVING ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY, PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD TRIM FLEW OFF THE CAR INTO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME (NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE, NOR LOOSENESS ETC.). WHEN WE STOPPED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, REALIZED THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD ALSO COME LOOSE, BUT WAS STILL ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE.
I LOSE POWER STEERING WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON AND HAVE TO TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON TO REGAIN POWER STEERING. THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE LAST FEW YEARS.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND STAYING ON FOR NO REASON . I FEEL THIS IS REALLY A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE AIR BAGS WONT INFLATE IF LIGHT IS ON AND I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS MATTER AND THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS WHO OWN THIS VEHICLE.
STARTED CAR AND PULLED OUT OF PARKING SPACE AND NO POWER STEERING. RECEIVED "POWER STEERING SENSOR FAIL" NOTICE ON DASH. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED AND WAS OK. AM CONCERNED TO DRIVE AS THERE IS NO SPECIFIC RECALL ON MY VIN# FOR THIS HOWEVER THERE IS A RECALL ON OTHER 2011 FORD EXPLORERS FOR THIS REASON.
POWER STEERING FAILURE WHILE IN MOTION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V435000 (SUSPENSION). WHILE THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS DRIVING 35 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING" AND "SERVICE POWER STEERING ASSIST" MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BARNES-BAKER AUTOMOTIVE (1406 OKLAHOMA AVE, TRENTON, MO, (660) 359-4461) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE STEERING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,000.
COMPLIANT ON FORD EXPLORER 2011 STEERING PROBLEM; ITS HIGHLY DISHONEST AND CRUEL HOW FORD IS ALWAYS SELLING CARS TO AMERICAN PEOPLE AND SAYING THAT ARE THE BEST IN THE MARKET WHEN IN REALITY THIS CARS (FORD EXPLORER 2011) HAVE REALLY HIGH HAZARDOUS DEFECTS ON ITS STEERING OPERATION SYSTEM. ACCORDING TO THE REVIEWS THERE HAS BEEN MULTI CAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION OF THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE IN THE STEERING OPERATIONS SYSTEM. I RESEARCH FOR ANY RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I OWN ONE OF THIS KIND OF VEHICLES ,BUT I FOUND 0 RECALLS . I EVEN TRIED BY USING MY CAR VIN # TO TRY TO CROSS REFERENCE ANY POTENTIAL RECALLS BUT I FOUND 0 RECALLS ON THE INTERNET. I FIND THIS A REAL CHEAP BUSINESS PRACTICE FROM A REAL BIG AMERICAN ICON ''FORD MOTOR COMPANY'' TO DO FOR BUSINESS. I SURE LIKE FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO TAKE A POSITION AGAINST THIS MOTOR GIANT TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE AND COMPENSATE THOSE WHO NOW SUFFER BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND ACCIDENTS WAS CAUSE BY IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COASTED UNTIL THE FAILURE CORRECTED ITSELF. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE UNTIL THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MULLINAX FORD OF MOBILE (7311 AIRPORT BLVD, MOBILE, AL 36608, (888) 241-4640) WHERE IT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Explorer. The contact observed that the door panel was separating from the door frame on the driver's side. The contact stated that the panel was separating from the middle of the panel and was creating a gap from left to right. The contact stated that the gap had trapped his left arm shirt sleeve and was more noticeable while wearing a coat. The contact stated that the failure impeding drivability. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer and the contact was forwarded to an auto body shop for the repair. The contact stated that the passenger’s side door panel was also separating from the center top. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
THE "SYNC" TOUCHSCREEN STOPPED WORKING. ONCE THIS HAPPENED THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SETS TO "OFF" ALL THE TIME. THE FORD DEALER REPORTS IT REQUIRES A NEW APIN, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR 5 YEARS FROM DATE OF NEW PURCHASE.
Driver’s side black plastic A pillar windshield trim piece detached as I was driving on the highway. Startled me but I kept my composure. No other damage. Piece could have hit another vehicle behind me or a motorcyclist. When I stopped I confirmed the piece missing. Seems only held on by tape and Velcro
SHIFTER DOES NOT ENGAGE INTO PARK AND WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. WILL NOT ENGAGE MY SEAT TO SLIDE BACK AFTER PUTTING IT INTO PARK. MY CAR WAS STATIONARY EVERY TIME. ALTHOUGH, THE PERSON WHO REALISED IT WAS NOT SHIFTING INTO PARK WAS THE FORD DEALERSHIP. AND NOW IVE NOTICED IT EVERY TIME. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I RESTART MY CAR IT WELL NOT SHIFT INTO PARK. I MUST APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE. FORD HAS NUMEROUS RECALLS ON VEHICLES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE FORD EXPLORER IS NOT....WHY? AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP I WAS GIVEN THE PARTS LIST FOR THE SHIFTING ISSUES, WHICH IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY FORD.

IN ADDITION, THE SERVICE ADVANCETRAC AND POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RODMAN FORD (53 WASHINGTON ST, FOXBOROUGH, MA 02035, (508) 543-3333) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.
WHEN WE TAKE A DRIVE IN OUR FORD EXPLORER- OUR CHILDREN ARE GETTING NAUSEA AND VOMITING. THIS HAS BECOME A CONSTANT PROBLEM-EVEN ON SHORT DRIVES OF 30 MINUTES OR LESS. THEY COMPLAIN OF HEADACHES AS WELL. WE HAVE HAD TO GO TO THE DOCTORS JUST TO GET ANTI NAUSEA MEDICINE HOPING IT WOULD HELP, BUT- IT HASN'T. THERE IS AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM WITH OUR VEHICLE THAT IS CAUSING MAJOR SICKNESS WITH OUR YOUNG CHILDREN- AGES 11, 8, 7 AND 2.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 FORD EXPLORER (65,000 MILES) WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER TO MY GAS, BREAK AND STEERING WHEEL. LUCKILY I WAS GOING CLOSE TO 10-15 MILES PER HOUR AND I MANAGED TO VEER ONTO SOMEONE'S LAWN AND HIT THE EMERGENCY BREAK. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS OIL LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE THAT CAUSE A COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. NO SENSORS WENT OFF PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT AND I HAVE ONLY GOTTEN MY CAR REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP.
I WAS DRIVING HOME GOING STRAIGHT ON A CITY STREET DOING ABOUT 40MPH WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE CAME UP ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. I LEFT OF THE GAS AND MUSCLED THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. OTHER THAN A COUPLE HONKS FROM PEOPLE BEHIND ME THERE WAS NO HARM. I LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND NOTICED THE RECALL, BUT WHEN I CAME TO YOUR SITE TO CHECK FOR AN OPEN RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM MY VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE AN OPEN RECALL SO THE PRIOR OWNER MUST HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED. MY QUESTION IS IF THE SAME PART FAILS AGAIN DOES FORD HAVE ANY RESPONSIBILITY OR IS IT COMPLETELY MY RESPONSIBILITY? ALSO, HOW DO I CHECK TO SEE WHEN AND WHERE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED?
EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT CONNECTION IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEAR. CAUSES A LOSS OF THE MOTOR POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL RESULTING IN A SHUT DOWN OF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST.
MY HUSBAND BOUGHT MY CAR FROM A USED FORD DEALERSHIP 2 YEARS AGO. IN THE TWO YEARS WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE MOLDING AROUND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD 3 ONES. THE PASSENGER SIDE FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AND WE REPLACED IT. THE DRIVER SIDE FLEW OF 2 TIMES AFTER BEING REPLACED. WE WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I'M SORRY THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. HE EVEN TOLD US THAT 4 OTHER PEOPLE CAME IN WTH THE SAME PROBLEM.
CLUNKING IN STEERING RACK/GEARS WHILE STATIONARY AND EXTREMELY WOBBLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. CLUNKING ALSO WHEN TURNING
AIRBAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY. NO CORRELATION TO TEMPERATURE OR HUMIDITY. NO CORRELATION TO BEING IN MOTION OR STOPPED. SOMETIMES IT STAYS ON FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME (I.E. MONTHS). BASED ON RESEARCH I'VE DONE, IT SEEMS THAT WHEN THE AIRBAG INDICATOR IS LIT, THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS OFF. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER ABOUT 1 MONTH OF IT BEING ON STEADILY, I HAD IT FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP, FRANKLIN FORD, IN FRANKLIN, MA. THEY FIXED IT THROUGH A TSB WHERE CONNECTORS WERE CLEANED AND RE-GREASED WITH DIELECTRIC GREASE. THIS FIX LASTED ABOUT 1 YEAR. AFTER THIS TIME PERIOD THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON, AGAIN INTERMITTENTLY AND RANDOMLY. AGAIN, AFTER ABOUT 1 MONTH OF STEADILY ON, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED USING THE SAME TSB METHOD. THIS LEADS TO A LOGICAL ASSUMPTION THAT THIS FIX IS ONLY TEMPORARY AND I WILL CONTINUOUSLY NEED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I'VE READ ACCOUNTS ONLINE OF SEVERAL OTHER USERS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE.
LOST COMPLETE STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THE WHEEL WOULDN'T LET ME TURN IT AT ALL.
WHILE DRIVING I 77 NORTH (MOORESVILLE NC TO THE BACK SIDE OF STONE MOUNTAIN NC) WITH THE AIR CONDITION ON, I STARTED SMELLING GAS FUMES COMING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. MY SON ALSO SMELLED THE GAS FUMES. WE HAD TO TURN THE AC OFF AND TRAVEL WITH OPEN WINDOWS.. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION. I DIDN'T SMELL THE FUMES AS WE WERE RETURNING HOME BUT ALSO RODE WITH THE WIDOWS DOWN A BIT AS WELL. I HOWEVER NOTICED THAT WHILE I WAS NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THAT MY HEADACHE WAS NOT WITH ME. I HAVE NOT USED THE AIR CONDITION SINCE I HAVE ARRIVED BACK IN TOWN. I HAVE NOT FELT GOOD FOR MONTHS AND HAD A CONSTANT HEADACHE, BLAMING IT ON STRESS BUT NOW FEEL THAT IT IS A STRONG POSSIBILITY OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING CAUSED BY MY VEHICLE. I WILL BE CALLING A DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE IF THERE IS A POSSIBLE PROBLEM AND HOPE TO GET IT FIXED.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST SEVERAL TIMES SINCE 2/2016 SPORADICALLY WHILE VEHICLE IN MOTION. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL RELATED TO THIS. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS IN NEIGHBORHOODS OR WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THANKFULLY. TURNING CAR OFF, WAITING 10 SECONDS, AND TURNING BACK ON USUALLY WILL RESET AND 'FIX' THIS. THE STEERING WHEEL GETS SO STIFF THAT IT CAN NOT MANUALLY BE TURNED, WITH THE MOST RECENT OCCURENCE ALMOST RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT.≥
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE PROGRESSING FROM THE AREA OF THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY AND THE SERPENTINE BELT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE SLOWLY TO BE PARKED AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE DEALER (BERGEY'S FORD, 700 N BETHLEHEM PIKE, AMBLER, PA 19002, (215) 793-3700) INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY, RECALL, OR MANUFACTURER CAMPAIGN; THEREFORE, NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED OTHER THAN THE DEALER DIAGNOSING AND REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON , POSSIBLE AIR BAG FAIL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EXPLORER. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING ABILITY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT AND THE STEERING ASSIST MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER. AFTER APPROXIMATELY THREE ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FINALLY ABLE TO BE TURNED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH FOR THE PAST YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
STRONG EXHAUST SMELL WHEN YOU START THE CAR AND THEN AGAIN WHEN YOU ACCELERATE TO GET ON TO THE HIGHWAY. INTERMITTENT SMELL AS YOU ARE DRIVING. IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOU ARE SITTING STILL OR ON THE HIGHWAY, YOU WILL INEVITABLY SMELL THE EXHAUST. I HAVE BEEN HAVING HEALTH ISSUES WITH MY HEART THAT WE NOW BELIEVE ARE RELATED TO THE CARBON MONOXIDE FROM THESE FUMES.
THE EXPLORER WAS PUT INTO PARK AND LEFT RUNNING IN THE DRIVEWAY AS I WENT INTO THE HOUSE TO GET MY KIDS. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR IT DIDN'T MOVE AT ALL. WHILE I WAS GETTING MY KIDS TOGETHER I HAPPEN TO LOOK UP AND SEE MY EXPLORER CRASHED INTO A TREE IN THE BACKYARD. I WENT OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND THE EXPLORER HAD GONE UP A SLIGHTLY INCLINED DRIVEWAY, DOWN A HILL, THROUGH AND ALUMINUM FENCE, AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. WHEN I OPENED THE DRIVER DOOR THE GEAR SHIFTER STILL SHOWED IN PARK.
POWER STEERING HAS FAILED RECALL SHOULD BE SENT OUT FOR 2011 EXPLORER 14S06
ITS A KNOWN FACT THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE WATER PUMPS SUDDENLY BREAK WITH NO PRIOR WARNING/SYMPTOM. FLUIDS MIX AS A RESULT, CONTAMINATED FLUIDS MANDATE COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT . FORD MOTOR CO. WILL NOT ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY OR OFFER ONE BIT OF ASSISTANCE FOR REPAIR COSTS WHEN DEALERSHIPS COULD HAVE OFFERED WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT AS A PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE ITEM. DEALERSHIP IS NOW ASKING ME FOR $7100.00 TO REPLACE ENGINE WHEN THIS ALL COULD HAVE BEEN CIRCUMVENTED WITH A SIMPLE MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE DEALERS WHO KNOW THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED PRE-OWNED FROM A FORD DEALER WITH A FORD 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH EXPIRED AS OF MY LAST OIL CHANGE) AND I AM STILL PAYING OFF THE VEHICLE ITSELF. FORD HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY "YOU CAN APPLY FOR A FORD CREDIT CARD TO PAY FOR YOUR ENGINE" WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT $7,100.00+ TAX IS CURRENTLY OUTSIDE OF MY LUMP SUM CURRENT BUDGET PARAMETERS. FORD ASSUMES NO LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THESE POORLY MANUFACTURED CARS AND THE CONSUMERS WHO PURCHASE THEM ARE SHEER VICTIMS. NEVER WILL ANOTHER FORD BE PURCHASED WITHIN MY FAMILY AGAIN IF THEY DO NOT STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND OFFER SOME FORM OF ASSISTANCE FOR THIS ALL TOO COMMON MALFUNCTION.
MY VEHICLE PRODUCES UNBEARABLE SMELL THAT GETS INSIDE THE CABIN WHENEVER THE RPM REACHES 3500 AND HIGHER AND IF THE VEHICLE IS IN LOW GEAR AND DRIVING UP HILL AND ALSO WHEN VEHICLE IS IDLE AND YOU RAVE UP TH ENGINE. THE SMELL THAT GETS INSIDE THE CABIN COULD MAKE ONE PASS OUT UNLESS WE ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS COMPLETELY TO LET A LOT OF FRESH AIR INSIDE. I WENT THE DEALERSHIP WHICH I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM THE FIRST MONTH AND THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND GOT BACK TO ME THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ALREADY RESOLVED BEFORE I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR AND ITS FIXED ALREADY BUT ITS NOT I'VE DRIVING THE CAR NOW FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS AND VERY CAUTIOUS WITH IT AS WHENEVER THE INCIDENT HAPPENS I FEEL VERY DIZZY BY THAT SMELL. SO THE ISSUE NEVER BEEN FIXED AS MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT HAVE A RECALE WHEN I CHECKED IT ON THE NHTSA AMD IN ORDER FOR THE ISSUE TO BE FIXED BIN HAS TO BE RECALED LIKE OTHER SIMILAR EXPLORERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. MOST OF THE OLDER MODES OF POLICE INTERCEPTORS EXPLORERS HAD RECALLS FOR SAME ISSUE. SOMEONE PLEASE ADVICE ME ON HOW I CAN GO ABLUT THIS TO GET SOME RESOLUTION.
ABOUT A YEAR AGO, WE NOTICED A SQUEAKY NOISE IN THE FRONT OF VEHICLE EACH TIME WE WOULD ACCELERATE, HIT A BUMP, OR MAKE A TURN. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO REPLACED PARTS IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK CARE OF MOST OF THE ISSUE BUT STILL OCCASIONALLY SQUEAKS AS WE BRAKE. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THIS VEHICLE.
MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT OUR EXPLORER LESS THAN A WEEK AGO AND WE SMELL A REALLY BAD ROTTEN EGG SMELL, SULFUR , CARBON MONOXIDE SMELL IN THE VEHICLE BADLY. WE SMELL IT WHEN PARKED, IDLING AT A STOP, ACCELERATING AND CRUISING DOWN THE ROAD, SO BASICALLY IN ALL ASPECTS OF DRIVING WE SMELL IT. THIS IS VERY UNHEALTHY FOR ALL OF US TO BE BREATHING THIS IN ECSPECIALLY OPERATING A MOVING VEHICLE AT THE RATE OF SPEEDS UPWARDS TO 70MPH AND HAVING SOMETHING HAPPEN TO US WHILE DRIVING. I'VE SEEN NEWS ARTICLES OF POLICE EVEN CRASHING AND CIVILIANS BECAUSE THEY BLACK OUT OR PASS OUT BECAUSE OF THE STRONG SMELL. ITS'S SO BAD IT'S BEEN GIVING MY WIFE AND I HEADACHES. WE HAVE A 1 YEAR OLD SON THAT RIDES WITH US AND I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT'S GOOD FOR HIM TO BE BREATHING IN. WE HAVE TEACHES OUR DESTINATIONS WITH VERY BAD HEADACHES. WE HAVE RESEARCHED AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND IT'S A BIG PROBLEM WITH ALL EXPLORERS 2011-2015. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I WILL NOT BE DRIVING THIS CAR UNTIL IT'S FIXED BECAUSE I'M NOT RISKING MY LIFE AND CERTAINLY WON'T BE LETTING MY SON BE EXPOSED TO IT. MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING(EPS) HAS GONE OUT 3 TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALERSHIP SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT ACCORDING TO THE RECALL THAT WAS OUT. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED IN ANY WAY BY FORD OR THE FIRD DEALERSHIP THAT MY SUV EVEN HAD A RECALL. THE EPS HAS GONE OUT 2 MORE TIMES SINCE THE "FIX" AND THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THERE ISNT A PROBLEM OR THAT TIRE PRESSURE IS LOW AND SHUTS OFF THE SYSTEM. EVERY TIME IT HAS GONE OUT IT WAS WHILE DRIVING DURING A ROAD TRIP. IT SEEMS AS IF YOU DRIVE AN HOUR OR MORE THE EPS SYSTEM SHUTS OFF DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS CITY DRIVING IR HIGHWAY.
WHEN DRIVING A WARM VEHICLE (MEANING IT WAS DRIVEN AND THEN PARKED FOR 1-5 HOURS) THEN DRIVING IT A SECOND TIME WITHIN THIS TIME FRAME, THE VEHICLE WILL DIE AFTER DRIVING 15-25 MINUTES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE RADIO CONTINUES TO WORK, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON AND THE LIGHTS AROUND THE SPEEDOMETER COME ON. THE REST OF THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL IS DEAD. THE REMOTE WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE CAR WILL REMAIN IN THIS STATE FOR ANYWHERE FROM 10 SECONDS TO 4 OR 5 MINUTES. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 OR SO TIMES IN THE MONTH THAT I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE. IT HAS HAPPENED PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN AND ALSO GOING 75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH IS VERY SCARY). IT HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED IN THIS 15-25 MIN TIMEFRAME. I HAVE NEVER HAD IT HAPPEN IN LESS TIME THAN THIS NOR HAVE I HAD IT HAPPEN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS RUN CLEANLY FOR 25-30 MIN. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE TO AKRON, OH AND BACK. IT HAPPENED TWICE ON THAT TRIP. ONE TIME AFTER WE HAD DRIVEN FOR ~3 HOURS, STOPPED TO EAT FOR AN HOUR AND THEN GOT BACK ON THE ROAD. IT DIED ABOUT 15-20 MIN AFTER WE WERE ON THE ROAD. IT STAYED IN THE "DEAD" STATE FOR ABOUT 2 MIN, THEN STARTED BACK UP AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ANOTHER 3 HOURS WITH NO ISSUE. IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME WHEN WE WERE GETTING READY TO TRAVEL HOME. WE DROVE ABOUT 3 MILES TO A RESTAURANT, ATE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AGAIN. THEN WHEN WE GOT ON THE ROAD TO TRAVEL BACK IT DIED ABOUT 15-20 MIN AFTER WE GOT ON THE ROAD. THIS TIME IT WAS ONLY OUT FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS BECAUSE IT CAME BACK ON AND JUMP STARTED BEFORE I COULD EVEN GET IT OFF THE ROAD. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT HAS HAPPENED.
I HAVE LEAKS IN MY REAR CARGO AREA THAT ARE ELUSIVE BUT MY DEALER HAS BEEN WORKING ON RESOLVING THE ISSUE. DURING RAINY WEATHER I FIND WATER IN THE REAR OF MY CARGO AREA.
FUEL SYSTEM LEAKS FROM THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. SIGNIFICANT GAS LEAK WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND TANK FULL. GAS SMELL AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE. PUMP IS NEAR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND I BELIEVE THERE WAS A FIRE HAZARD. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 62K MILES ON IT. IT COST ME $825 TO REPAIR. FORD HAS NO TSB ON IT.
TOOK TO A SHOP BECAUSE OF WATER IN REAR AREA COMING FROM SEAT BELTS. GOT TOLD THAT THE WELDS AROUND THE REAR HATCH MOUNTS ARE BAD AND KNOWN FOR MESSING UP. DEALER WOULD NOT FIX AND TOLD ME TO TAKE TO A COLLISION SHOP TO GET FIXED ON MY OWN DIME.
FORD EXPLORER CARBON MONOXIDE. WHEN DRIVING CAR FOR OVER 15 MINS AT A TIME THE CABIN FILLS WITH A ROTTEN EGG SMELL AND CAUSES A SEVERE MIGRAINE. IF YOU DO NOT TURN AC/HEAT OFF AND ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS YOU WILL BECOME LIGHTHEADED AND DIZZY. KIDS COMPLAIN OF BECOMING VERY SLEEPY WHEN IN THE CAR AND THE AIR OR HEAT IS ON. WE HAVE TO CONSISTENTLY DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN TO INSURE THAT WE ARE NOT BEING POISONED WITH CO2. I HAVE TAKEN MY EXPLORER IN TWICE NOW AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BOTH TIMES AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER YOU ARE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, CITY STREET, OR SITTING STILL IF YOU ARE IN THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 15 MINUTES THE CO2 STARTS UP IF THE AIR OR HEAT IS ON.
WHEN PLACED IN PARK THE VEHICLE WILL NOT LIGHT UP THE PARK INDICATOR LIGHT 95% OF THE TIME. BECAUSE OF THIS THE REMOTE START WILL NOT WORK AND THE CAR CHIME WILL RING CONSISTENTLY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD IT IS A SWITCH THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THAT WILL COST ME @ 500.00. I SEE THIS COMPLAINT LIST ON THE INTERNET FOR MANY OF THE EXPLORERS AND OTHER MODELS YET IS HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN A RECALL. I BELIEVE JEEP HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WHERE THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACTUALLY GO INTO PARK AND IT KILLED SEVERAL PEOPLE. WILL THIS BE THE NEXT PROBLEM WITH THESE FORDS THAT SHOW THEY ARE NOT IN PARK? THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS IT SEEMS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM DESPITE FORD DENYING IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR ME FOR @ 2 MONTHS UNTIL I COULD GET IT IN FOR SERVICE
WHILE MAKING A SHARP LEFT TURN ON A CITY STREET, THE POWER STEERING FAILED CAUSING ME TO LOSE THE ABILITY TO MANEUVER THE TURN. LUCKILY, THERE WAS A PARKING LOT STRAIGHT AHEAD SO I WAS ABLE TO STEER WITH DIFFICULTY INTO THAT LOT. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, WAITED 30 SECONDS OR SO, AND RE-STARTED THE ENGINE. I HAD NO OTHER ISSUES AND REACHED MY DESTINATION SAFELY.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY FAMILY DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE WINDSHIELD MOULDING ON THE DRIVER SIDE FLEW OFF. I WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC. NO ABNORMAL WIND, JUST WIND FROM SPEED. WAS NO REASON IT SHOULD HAVE FLEW OFF. I HAVE TALKED TO NUMEROUS OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS AND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. SOME HAVE EVEN HAD TO BE REPLACED MORE THAN ONCE. The contact owns a 2011 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's side windshield trim detached and flew off the vehicle. The contact stated that shortly afterwards, the passenger's side windshield trim fractured. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the passenger's side trim was reattached. The contact stated that due to the wind, the failure reoccurred. The contact applied tape to the area to hold the windshield trim in place. In addition, the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the contact was informed that parts were not yet available. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V31000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
