All doors sporadically do not unlock. Sometimes it one sometimes it’s two sometimes it’s three. The back doors locked and will not unlock with the key fob, the indoor lock controls, or manually attempting to unlock the doors. The rear doors cannot be opened from the outside or inside when the locking mechanisms stop working. It poses a large risk when there are children in the car. And the front doors can be opened from the inside when the locking mechanisms stop working. It seems as though the locks start to act up when the weather is below 60°F. It is so sporadic that we can’t risk to take our family or children anywhere as we have to maneuver them out of car seats to get them out through front doors instead. I have taken our vehicle into our local Ford dealer for inspection upon which they stated that a specific component wasn’t working and it needed to be replaced, although that’s not the case considering how sporadic the locks are. They work when it’s warm and usually during the spring and summer, but all of a sudden when it’s below 60° they only want to work every so often. They should be a safety recall considering when people can’t get out of their car it poses a large risk. There are no warnings for this happening, and I don’t believe that the Ford dealership is even aware of what causes this as I’ve seen on many online forums that a lot of Ford owners have this problem. THE CONTACT EXITED THE HIGH WAY, PULLED INTO A SERVICE STATION AND THE POWER STEERING CEASED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. KOONS FORD OF BALTIMORE (6970 SECURITY BLVD, WOODLAWN, MD 21244, (410) 298-3800), WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated she noticed a small leak entering through the seat belt and ending into the wheel well. The contact stated approximately 6 months later, she started to smell a moldy odor and the leak was much larger. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the steering wheel stiffened with the "service power steering" and service advance track" messages on the instrument panel. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home using excessive force to steer the vehicle. Once the contact arriver at her residence, the steering wheel became more difficult to steer. The contact's husband was unable to turn the steering wheel. Both the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and both informed her that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V286000 (Steering). The contact also stated that prior to the failure, the steering while would remain locked in the turn position and that she had to manually adjust the steering wheel to correct the steering. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that upon start the vehicle and while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist failed to operate as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact also stated that an abnormal clicking sound was coming from the steering wheel while driving. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed, and the contact was informed that a new steering gear system was needed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V286000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
THE POWER STEERING IS NO LONGER WORKING. PREVIOUS VEHICLE THAT ARE THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. NO RECALL WAS LISTED FOR MY VIN.
MY EXPLORER WAS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SYMPTOMS AND DIAGNOSIS AS IN THE RECALL 14S06 AT LOW SPEEDS THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WOULD FAULT CAUSING IT TO BE MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER IN SHORT BURST IT WOULD COME AND GO AS WELL AS MAKING A WHINING SOUND. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM ENDED UP BEING THE STEERING GEAR/RACK AND PINION IT COST ME ROUGHLY 2,000 TO HAVE IT REPLACED WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM ABOUT THIS RECALL THEY SAID MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER RECALL 14S06 BUT MY VEHICLE HAD THE EXACT SYMPTOMS OF SAID RECALL. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE A CRASH WITH INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS. ESPECIALLY WITH KIDS IN THE CAR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE WITH NO HELP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS FAR AS PARTS AND LABOR COST
ON 6-27/20, MY EXPLORER SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING AND THE DASH SAID "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE". TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. RESEARCHED ONLINE THE ISSUE AND NOTICED THAT 2011-2013 FORD EXPLORERS WERE RECALLED FOR POWER ASSIST STEERING ISSUES (RECALL#14V286000/14S06) THE DEALER SAID MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE (CASE# [XXX]) TO SEE IF I COULD GET SOME ASSISTANCE, SHE RESEARCHED AND SAID MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE AND IN THE EVENT THAT FORD INCLUDES IN MY VIN AT A LATER DATE, THEN I WOULD GET REIMBURSED. SUDDENLY LOSING POWER STEERING IS A SAFETY ISSUES AND MY VEHICLE DISPLAYS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE RECALL. Sulfer smell through cabin vents during acceleration. This occurs every time I moderately accelerate. I've told the dealer and of course they were unable to duplicate issue. I'm told this is a very common issue and has been ignored by Ford. I've reported this before and heard nothing back.
AT APPROX 184K MILES THE STEERING STARTED MAKING A GRINDING/ HOWLING SOUND WHEN TURNING AT IDLE OR DRIVING, ALSO AROUND 55MPH WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND OR RIGHT HAND TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WILL CATCH AND ACT LIKE IT GETS STUCK BRIEFLY ALMOST LIKE IT STOPPED STEERING. WHICH WAS EXTREMELY SCARY NO DASH LIGHTS POPPED UP NO WARNING JUST HAPPENED OUT OF NO WHERE IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN THREW TYPING. IF YOU TURNED IT WOULD NOT CORRECT ITSELF IT WOULD STAY TURNING. *TR
MY WIFE EXPERIENCE "SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION" OF OUR FORD EXPLORER. MY WIFE WAS PULLING INTO A WALGREENS PARKING LOT, SLOWED DOWN TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. MY WIFE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS SHE WAS ENTERING THE SPACE, BUT THE BRAKE COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. THERE WAS AN EXTREME AND SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION. ONCE THE CAR HIT THE POLE, IT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO REVERSE EVEN WITH MY WIFE APPLYING THE BRAKE. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AFTER HITTING A PARKED TRUCK. ADDITIONALLY, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS ENOUGH FORCE ON THE FRONT END TO MAKE THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY. *TR
A RECALL FOR THE REAR TOE LINK WAS ISSUED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN CONTACTED BY FORD OR ANY OTHER ENTITY TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, MY WIFE HEARD A LOT OF CHIMES THEN " POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WAS DISPLAYED. VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. ONCE SHE TURNED MOTOR OFF AND RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. IT HAS SINCE HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR MY VIN..! WHEN TURNING VEHICLE THE STEERING IS "STICKY". STEERING MAKES RUBBING AND GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEEL. STEERING WHEEL AND TIRES DO NOT RETURN TO NULL POSITION WHEN TURNING. HAVE TO TURN WHEEL TO MAKE TURN AND THEN APPLY PRESSURE TO TURN WHEEL BACK TO STRAIGHT POSITION. THIS HAPPENS WHEN IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. FIRST EXPERIENCED ON FREEWAY AT 60 MPH. WAS ABLE TO EXIT FREEWAY SAFELY.
MY 2013 FORD EXPLORE KEEPS CUTTING OFF COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING. A WRENCH COMES UP ON MY DASH AND ALSO TERRAIN MANAGEMENT COME UP. I PULL OVER CUT THE CAR OFF WAIT A MINUTE AND IT STARTS. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000(STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT SOUGHT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

MY WINDSHIELD TRIM ON BOTH SIDES OF MY WINDSHIELD KEEP FLYING OFF!!!! FORD DEALERS SAY THEY'VE NEVER SEEN THIS BUT YET I DRIVE AROUND TOWN AND SEE PLENTY OF FORD EXPLORERS WITH THEM MISSING!!! THIS IS RIDICULOUS. IVE BOUGHT REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT WILL NOT EVEN STAY ON!!
AT FIRST THE CAR WAS VIBRATING A LITTLE WHEN DOWNSHIFTING FROM 45 TO A STOP. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE ENGINE SPUTTERS AND THEN SEIZES UP AND DIES WHEN PUT IN DRIVE FROM PARK AND ALSO FROM PARK TO REVERSE. WHEN STOPPING THE CAR STILL FEELS LIKE THE DOWNSHIFT IS FAULTY AND WHEN AT THE COMPLETE STOP THE FEELS LIKE IT GOING TO LOSE POWER AND DIE. THE CAR HAS NO TROUBLE CODES. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MECHANIC SEEM TO IMMEDIATELY KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY TROUBLESHOOTED IT AND CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY ISSUES, BUT THAT IT HAS TO BE A INTERNAL TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE TRANSMISSION AND TEAR DOWN FOR INSPECTION OR REPLACE WITH A NEW TRANSMISSION ON A 8 YEAR, 64000 MILES, 1ST OWNER CAR. THIS CAR HAS LOW MILES, STORED INSIDE A GARAGE AND IS MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED A CASE REGARDING THE MATTER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,010.
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE I RECEIVED TWO WARNINGS, 1) VEHICLE LANE DEPARTURE WARNING DISABLED, FOLLOWED BY 2) POWER STEERING ASSIST DISABLED. IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE THEREFORE I TURNED IT OFF, LET IT SIT 15-20 SECONDS AND RESTARTED. SAME WARNINGS WERE RECEIVED. TURNED IT OFF AGAIN AND LET IT SIT FOR ANOTHER 15-20 SECONDS AND THEN RESTARTED. WARNINGS DID NOT COME ON AND POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED. SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND STEERING RACK REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE IS SIX MONTHS BEYOND EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT HAS ONLY 60,000 MILES TOTAL. RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE (14V286000, FORD 14S06), HOWEVER THE PRODUCTION DATE OF MY VEHICLE FELL OUTSIDE OF THE MANUFACTURED DATE RANGE FOR THE RECALL OF MAY 17TH, 2010 THRU FEBRUARY 28TH, 2012. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED ON APRIL 25TH, 2012. I REQUESTED THAT THE DEALER OPEN A CASE WITH FORD AND REQUEST THIS REPAIR TO BE COVERED, DEALER RESPONDED THAT FORD DENIED THE CLAIM. REPAIR & REPLACEMENT OF STEERING RACK WAS COMPLETED BY THE DEALER. $2,161.79. *TR
I NEED A POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. RECENTLY TWICE MY POWER STEERING WAS STIFF. I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THE CODES INDICATED I NEED A POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND I SEE THAT FORD RECALLED THE FORD EXPLORERS FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT MINE WAS NOT RECALLED ACCORDING TO FORD. I ALSO SAW ONLINE THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND SOLD THE VEHICLES AS IS. *TR

LOST OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING, COMING FROM AN OIL CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO A PARKING LOT, AND WAS ABLE TO MANAGE NOT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS COULD'VE BEEN FATAL, AND FORD NEED TO RECALL. *TR

I RECIEVED A LETTER STATING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS IN RECALL FOR THE REAR TOE LINK SUSPENSION. THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS RECALL IS HAPPENING TO MY VEHICLE BUT IT'S NOT THE REAR IT'S THE FRONT THAT'S DESCRIBING ALL THE SYMPTOMS. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

A DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.

INTERIOR DRIVER DOOR HANDLE DOES NOT RETURN TO THE RECESSED (PARKED) POSITION. THIS SAME DEFECT IS A RECALL ON FORD FUSIONS AND SOME OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES; WHY NOT ON THIS FORD EXPLORER? COST TO REPAIR AT DEALER AROUND $150.00. WORKED FINE FOR 7 YEARS. (SPRING INSIDE DOOR IS EITHER BROKEN OR OFF ITS ANCHOR(S).
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING ALMOST CAUSING ME TO SCRAPE THE SIDE OF MY CAR ON THE WALL. I HAD TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL, AS THE CAR HAD BEEN LEFT AT A SLIGHT ANGLE WHEN PARKED THE DAY BEFORE, AND COULD NOT STRAIGHTEN IT OUT. I HAD TO STOP. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND THE STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2013 EXPLORER ON MODELS MADE A FEW MONTHS EARLIER. FORD IS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IT APPEARS. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER BUT I WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY DASH BOARD THAT TIME. I DON'T RECALL SEEING AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN IT HAPPENED WHILE BACKING UP IN MY GARAGE. THE PROBLEM ALSO HAPPENED WHEN MY WIFE WAS IN A PARKING LOT A FEW DAYS LATER. SO A TOTAL OF 3 INCIDENCES OF FAILURE.

WATER LEAKING INTO REAR AND INTO THE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL. ABOUT AN INCH OF WATER FOUND IN THE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL. UNSURE WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING.
The driver side exterior A-pillar applique trim detached from the vehicle in early 2020. I assumed the failure was a chance occurrence, but a recently reported recall identified this as a manufacturer's defect. I had to have the repair done myself at a cost of $335.81.
I EXPERIENCE A ROTTEN EGG SMELL WHEN ACCELERATING. WHEN I TOLD THE FORD DEALERSHIP DURING ROUTINE SERVICE, THEY STATED "IT'S NORMAL". I LOOKED FOR RECALL 19N05 WITH MY VIN BUT IT STATED THERE ARE NO UNRESOLVED ISSUES. SO IT SEEMS PERHAPS THE RECALL 19N05 WAS PERFORMED. BUT THE SMELL IS STILL THERE DURING ACCELERATION.
FULLY MARKED POLICE PATROL VEHICLE LOST HYDRAULIC BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. INSPECTED AND FOUND RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED INSIDE OF PROTECTIVE SLEEVE CAUSING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT AND HYDRAULIC BRAKES TO STOP WORKING. THE CAR WILL NOT START AFTER DRIVING IT . SOMETIMES IT HAS TO BE JUMPED . I HAS HAD 3 BATTERIES IN IT SO FAR, IT HAS 140,000 MILES ON IT AND WHEN I CLOSE OR OPEN THE DOORS SOMETIMES IT WILL START!

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED NOR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,854.
HAD JUST PICKED UP MY MAIL FROM MAILBOX AND STARTED CROSSING ROAD TO ENTER MY LANE/PRIVATE DRIVEWAY WHEN HEARD A LOUD CLUNK AND WAS UNABLE TO STEER CAR. KEPT PUSHING GAS PEDAL TO TRY TO MOVE FORWARD AND GET ACROSS THE ROAD AND BARELY DID BUT COULDN'T CONTROL DIRECTION THE CAR WAS MOVING. WHEN FELT WAS SAFE I GOT OUT AND WALKED AROUND CAR TO SEE IF I COULD SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. NOTICED FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER WHEEL WAS TURNED IN WHILE OTHERS WERE STRAIGHT. I GOT BACK IN CAR TO TURN STEERING WHEEL AND SEE IF IT WOULD MOVE BUT IT DID NOT. I CALLED FAMILY TO COME HELP AND UPON FURTHER LOOKING DISCOVERED WHEEL HAD BECOME DISCONNECTED FROM THE TIE ROD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE AND UPON THEIR INSPECTION I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW INNER AND OUTER TIE ROD AND THAT THE AXLE CENTRE BRACKET HAD BROKEN. I GOOGLED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND FOUND A WEBSITE CARPROBLEMZOO.COM WHERE 29 REPORTS WERE LISTED OF SIMILAR INSTANCES WITH A MOST RECENT DATE OF 7/12/2019. THIS DRIVER DID CONTACT FORD CUSTOMER CARE AS DID I BUT HAD NO ASSISTANCE OR RESOLUTION FROM THEM. IN FACT FORD TOLD ME THEY CAN'T MONITOR EVERY WEBSITE AND I TOLD THEM THIS WASN'T ACCEPTABLE BECAUSE ONE COMPLAINT SAID A MOTHER'S NECK WAS BROKEN. THESE PROBLEMS MUST BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED.
