THERE ALREADY A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH FORD STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM ON MY YEAR 2013 FORD EXPLORER AND MY CAR IS HAVING TROBLE TURNING, CUTTING IN OUT WHILE DRIVING ( LIKE GETS HARD TO TURN THEN BACK TO EASY OVER AND OVER) I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD I HAVE TO HAVE MY VIN NUMBER PUT ON THE RECALL LIST ( WHAT EVER THAT MEANS) AND EVEN THO THEY KNOW ITS A KNOWN ISSUE THEY CANT HELP ME...SO PLZ LEAD ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO GETTING MY CAR ON THIS RECALL LIST THANKS.
STEERING LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING HAVE TO SLOWLY PUT ON BRAKES TO STOP SHUT MOTOR OFF AND RESTART VEHICLE. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU GET IN AND START VEHICLE,STEERING WILL NOT UNLOCK WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED BUT WILL MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARDS WITH STEERING LOCKED HAVE TO TURN KEY OFF AND RESTART VEHICLE TO UNLOCK STEERING. SOMETIMES STEERING UNLOCKED UP IN COLD WEATHER AND HAVE TO TURN ON ENGINE AND FLOOR HEAT FOR 45 MINUTES TO UNLOCK STEERING. AFTER SEVERAL TIMES OF STEERING LOCKING UP WITHOUT ERROR MESSAGE ON DASH NOW ERROR MESSAGES HILL DESCENT CONTROL FAULT AND SERVICE ADVANCED TRACTION ARE FLASHING ON DASH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS BETWEEN 10/29/2019 AND 11/12/2019
UPON STARTING VEHICLE, STEERING WHEEL TIGHTEN UP AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER, COULD NOT BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE AT WORK- POWER ASSIST ERROR LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS SECOND OCCURRENCE. THE FIRST TIME (1 MONTH AGO) I WAS PARKED ON A HILL SO THOUGHT MAY HAVE BEEN A FLUKE. TODAY I LOOKED THE ERROR UP AND SAW FORD HAS RECALL FOR 2011-2013 BUT MY 2013 VIN IS NOT PART OF BATCH. BELIEVE FORD NEEDS TO EXTEND THE 'WINDOW' AND ADD MORE VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME ISSUE! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2 TIRES, SIZE: 255/50R20. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS WASHING THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE SHREDDING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TIRES WOULD WORSEN OVER TIME BEFORE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED AND IS REPORTING ERROR POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAILURE. THE STABILITY CONTROL OS ALSO REPORTING AN ERROR. THE BEHAVIOR IS THE SAME AS IS DESCRIBED IN RECALL# 14V286000, BUT THE VIN CHECK DOESN'T INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF THE RECALL. I HAVE SEEN REPORTS BY OTHERS REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE AND ARE ALSO FINDING THEIR VINS ARE ALSO NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. INTERMITTENTLY I USED TO GET THE POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAILURE MESSAGE WHEN I WOULD FIRST START THE CAR, BUT AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE. HOWEVER, A FEW DAYS AGO THE SYSTEM FAILED PERMANENTLY. FORTUNATELY IT OCCURRED WHILE TUE CAR WAS STATIONARY, IN MY DRIVEWAY. I'M TAKING CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR TOMORROW, HOWEVER, I'M EXPECTED THE REPAIR TO COST AROUND $2000. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH A CRITICAL PART CAN HAVE SUCH CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHEN THE CAR IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 116,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE OWNED CARS WITH OVER 200,000 MILES THAT DID REQUIRE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING SYSTEM.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY CAR STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE DASH SAID THERE WAS A POWER STEERING FAULT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TURNING IT ON AND OFF SEEMED TO RESET IT, AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON. BY RESEARCH, THIS IS COMMON IN 2013 EXPLORERS, AND WAS A RECALL, BUT NOT ON MY VIN. IT IS GOING IN FOR REPAIR WITHIN THE WEEK. IT APPEARS THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE MODELS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD!
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN A BACK ROAD BY OUR HOUSE WITH OUR 3 CHILDREN IN THE BACK AND MYSELF AS A PASSENGER. THE VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING AT ROUGHLY 40MPH HAD A LIGHT FLASH THAT READ SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC. SHE THEN LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND COULD NOT PULL OFF THE ROAD. SHE COULD ONLY BRAKE. WE SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. IT REGAINED STEERING FOR A FEW MILES AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER IN A PARKING LOT. IT IS NOW AT THE FORD GARAGE TO GET LOOKED AT. IT IS SUPER DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF SHE WAS TRAVELING AROUND A TURN. IT HAS 50000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON, WHICH FAILED TO RESET THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER CONTROL MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FRIENDLY FORD (2250 SOUTH RD, POUGHKEEPSIE, NY 12601, (845) 462-1900) WHERE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT SELECTED FOR THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CALL NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
WITH THE CAR PARKED OVERNIGHT, I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE TO EXIT MY DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" ALERT ON DASHBOARD. DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 250 METERS WITH NO POWER STEERING, STOPPED, POWERED OFF THE VEHICLE, STARTED IT BACK UP, STILL HAD LIMITED POWER STEERING, AND ADDITIONAL ALERTS INCLUDING "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC" WITH ESC OFF LIGHTS. DROVE FOR A ABOUT 100 METERS AND POWER STEERING ASSIST RESUMED. THIS HAS HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY WITH ANOTHER DRIVER, SO IT ISN'T AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.
NATURAL GAS SMELL ON INTERIOR OF VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WHEN IDLING, GAS SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS OR SULFUR. IT CAUSES ME TO GET HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS.
Windshield trim on both sides detached while driving . First incident was November 2019 while driving 70 mph on the DC beltway. The part landed in the middle of the road and was run over by several vehicles traveling behind me, but there was no damage to any of them. The second incident occurred during the summer of 2020 while driving 50 mph on a local, well traveled road. The part landed in the grass on the side of the road and did not hit any other vehicles. I have seen numerous other ford explorers that are also missing the windshield trim, and have read several articles stating there have been numerous reports of this issue occurring frequently, but it has not been confirmed by a dealership of any other service center. This issue has not been inspected by a dealership, law enforcement, or my insurance company. There was no indication prior to the trim detaching on either side that it was loose or not properly installed.
IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GOES ON AND OFF. IT DOES SO WHILE STILL OR EVEN WHILE DRIVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. VEHICLE HAD DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING WOULD SUDDENLY FAIL CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE AS NORMAL. DURING THE FAILURES THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS FAULTY. TRI CITY FORD(1348 FOUR LOCUST HWY, KEYSVILLE VA) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the vehicle lost power steering functionality while driving. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and regained normal steering functionality. The failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed that the battery, alternator, and transmission needed to be replaced. The battery and alternator were replaced. The dealer also performed three recall repairs for the door, rear toe link, and exhaust. and the battery and alternator were replaced. The failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for transmission repair. The vehicle remained at the mechanic's. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V286000 (Steering). The failure mileage was 200,000.
EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN WHEN DRIVING. CHECKED THE DOOR SEALS AND OTHER PLACES WHERE IT COULD BE COMING FROM AND FOUND NO BREAKS IN THEM. THAT LEAVES THE EXHAUST SYSTEM COULD BE LEAKING INTO THE CABIN
WHEN MY CAR IS TURNING ON THE POWER STEERING WILL BRIEFLY LOCK UP. MY POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AS I BEGAN DRIVING RECENTLY AND ONLY UNLOCKED WHEN MY CAR WAS RESTARTED.

THE MECHANIC LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V286000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.*DT CONSUMER CONTACTED MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD VEHICLE WAS DEEMED SAFE.*JB
WE HAVE JUST BECOME AWARE THAT EXHAUST GASSES ARE LEAKING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND APPARENTLY HAVE BEEN FOR SOME TIME, CAUSING HEADACHES, DIZZINESS AND EYE IRRITATION. WE LOCATED A TSB FROM FORD (TSB 16-0166) RELATING TO THE ISSUE AND BECAME AWARE THAT FORD HAD OFFERED TO FIX THE ISSUE. BOTH THE CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY AND THE NHTSA INVESTIGATED THIS ISSUE RESULTING IN FORD NOTIFYING OWNERS OF POTENTIALLY AFFECTED VEHICLES OFFERING TO FIX THE ISSUE FOR FREE. I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER, AND WHEN I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT AFFECTED. WITH THE LEAKAGE OF THE EXHAUST INTO THE CABIN I'VE EARNED THE RIGHT TO CALL BS. THIS IS NOT THE TYPE OF DEFECT THAT WILL REPAIR ITSELF AND PRESENTS A CLEAR AND PRESENT RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, AS EVIDENCED BY THE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF CRASHES. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG AND WARRANTS A RECALL AND INSPECTION/REPAIR OF EVERY VEHICLE IN THE CATEGORY. DATE BELOW IS THE DATE THAT WE TOOK IT IN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR, BUT THE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN NOTICED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS.
2013 FORD EXPLORER WITH HOOD PAINT BUBBLING AND PEELING. I NOTICE A WHILE BACK AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A ROCK THAT HIT THE HOOD. NOW IT PEELING REALLY BAD AND CRACKING AND PEELING. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL CAUSE SO MANY CLIENTS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
ON MY EXPLORER THE RECALL 19V-435 (FORD NUMBER 19S17) WAS EXECUTED. AFTER 3 MONTH AND APPROX. 2500MI THE LEFT NEW TOE LINK BROKE. THE CAR WAS RUNNING WITH 35MPH TO AN INTERSECTION AND I STARTED MODERATE BRAKING IN FRONT.OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT. DURING BRAKING THE LEFT NEW TOE LINK BROKE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALL AMERICAN FORD IN OLD BRIDGE (3698 U.S. 9, OLD BRIDGE, NJ 08857) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL MODULE WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
I am the owner of a 2013 Ford Explorer and have been experiencing repeated failures of the rear-view camera system. The camera often goes blank, displays distorted images, or intermittently cuts out when the vehicle is placed in revierse. I have reviewed the current recalls related to defective rear-view cameras on Ford vehicles, particularly those affecting model years 2015 and newer. While my 2013 Explorer is not included in these campaigns, the symptoms are identical to the recall descriptions and create the same safety risk: a loss of visibility when backing up. I am requesting that this issue be formally documented and investigated for the 2013 Ford Explorer, and that my vehicle be considered for inclusion in any applicable recall or service campaign. I have approximately 126,000 miles on my vehicle. I did have Dave Sinclair Ford (dealer) look at this on 4/15/2024 and the cost to repair was approximately $800+. I did not have the work completed. Please advise me on next steps, including whether my VIN can be added to any active recall. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE THE WARNING INDICATOR "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" MESSAGE APPEARS AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING SOMETIMES RESETS THE WARNING AND POWER STEERING WILL RETURN BUT NOT ALWAYS. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS (14S06) BUT MY VIN FALLS OUTSIDE THE MANUFACTURE DATE. REACHED OUT TO FOMOCO AND THEY VERIFIED THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY RECALLS FOR MY VIN. ONE MONTH AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM FORD FOR A DIFFERENT ISSUE THAT I HAD FIXED UNDER THE RECALL BY FORD. THAT RECALL DIDN'T SHOW UP IN FORDS DATABASE EITHER FOR MY VIN WHEN I CALLED TODAY BUT YET IT EXISTED AND WAS FIXED. ODD THAT THE SAME POWER STEERING PROBLEM KEEPS OCCURRING ON VEHICLES BUT FORD WONT RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF A BUILD LOCATION AND DATE. FORD DOESN'T ENGINEER US SPEC VEHICLES BASED ON THEIR MANUFACTURING PLANT, THEY SEEM TO BE SAYING THAT THE SAME ENGINEERS THAT DESIGNED A FAULTY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR FOR CHICAGO DIDN'T DESIGN A FAULTY MOTOR FOR ANOTHER PLANT. OR THE ORIGINAL "FIX" DIDN'T REAL "FIX" THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING (SECOND INCIDENT, IT WAS REPAIRED BY FORD MOTOR VEHICLE FOR THE SAME THING LAST YEAR) MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. THE VEHICLE KEPT PULLING ME TO THE LEFT, I ALMOST HAD A HEAD ON WITH THE ONCOMING VEHICLE. I WAS SO SHOOK UP, I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND WAITED FOR HELP. MY HUSBAND TESTED IT SINCE AND THE PULL IS QUITE NOTICEABLE.
AFTER AN ALL DAY EVENT, I GOT INTO THE CAR, STARTED IT AS USUAL, BUT THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. THERE WAS A WARNING ON THE DASH, SO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. HE HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, AND DID A SCAN, WHICH SHOWED SEVERAL CODES RELATED TO POWER STEERING ISSUE. I DO RECALL ON THE DRIVE TO THE EVENT, MY NAVIGATION WENT OUT, WITH A WARNING THAT SD NAV CARD IS NOT WORKING, AND MY PHONE WOULD NOT CONNECT TO THE SYSTEM VIA THE CABLE. MECHANIC RESET THE CODE TO TEST IT OUT. THIS HAS ACTIVATED THE POWER STEERING, RADIO, AND EVEN THE BACK UP CAMERA. YES, BACK UP CAMERA WOULD ONLY WORK PERIODICALLY, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS CAMERA ITSELF. I'M WORRIED POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT DURING THE NORMAL DRIVE. IS THERE ANY RECALL ON POWER STEERING OR ELECTRICAL ISSUES?
THE POWER STEERING FAULT ASSIST BUTTON CAME ON IN THE SUV. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I WAS IN ANOTHER CITY OTHER THAN WHERE I LIVE. THIS WAS BY FAR ONE THE SCARIEST THINGS THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. THE WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. THIS IS BEYOND UNSAFE FOR ANYONE TO BE STEERING A VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC SHOP. THE STEERING RACK HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS CHARGED FOR THE PET AND LABOR. THE TOTAL COST WAS $1,931.18. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE BUT BECAUSE MY VIN DOESN'T MATCH I WOULDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. THIS IS NOT RIGHT! THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT NOT FOR MY VIN. I WILL UPLOAD A COPY OF MY RECEIPT FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THIS IS SO DISAPPOINTING!
I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT. GENERALLY WHEN I START THE CAR. I CAN USUALLY RESTART IT AND IT WORKS FINE. JUST RECENTLY, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE DRIVING. IT IS STILL NOT WORKING. JUST TOOK IT IN TO THE FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. THEY ARE TELLING MY THAT MY VIN# IS NOT PART OF THE POWER STEERING RECALL, BUT CLEARLY IT HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE RECALL OF THE FORD EXPLORER FROM 2011-2013.

CRANKED UP CAR THIS MORNING AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME ON. COULD NOT TURN STEERING WHEEL. TRIED AGAIN LATER AND COULD DRIVE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP 1.5 MILES AWAY. THEY SAID THERE'S NO RECALL. AND IT'S $2300 TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR. HAS 107000 MILES ON IT
LOST POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING WILL INTERMITTENTLY WORK AND YOU WILL GET A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT NOTICE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE (15S11) BUT FOR SOME REASON THIS EXPLORER WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO THE MANUFACTURE DATE. I BELIEVE THAT RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO COVER ALL OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED. THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST UNSTEERABLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. SUBURBAN FORD OF FERNDALE (21600 WOODWARD AVE, FERNDALE, MI 48220, (248) 399-1000) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CAME TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

ON THE EVENING OF 04OCT,2019 MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE OUTLINED IN NHTSA RECALL #14V286 (POWER STEERING FAILURE). FORD NEEDS TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY FAILURE THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURY, LOSS OF LIFE AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2013 FORD EXPLORER FOR POWER ASSIST POWER STEERING FAILURE. MY VEHICLE BASED ON VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED(IT IS A 2013 AS WELL) I HAVE A POWER ASSIST POWER STEERING FAILURE AND FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. I HAVE A CASE NUMBER WITH FORD: CAS - 24449952
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING RACK HAS FAILED AND LOCKED UP. THIS RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR SOME EXPLORERS BUT SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE VIN NUMBERS AS THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP FULLY AND POWER STEERING FAILED DURING THEIR TEST DRIVE.
MY CAR STARTED TO LEAK COOLANT I'VE HAD TO KEEP TOPPING OFF COOLANT, TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, STATED IT WAS MY WATER PUMP WHICH WOULD COST ABOUT $2000 TO FIX. I AM ONLY AT 108K MILES & I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THEY DO NOT NEED MAINTENCING AND WOULD LAST TILL 150,000 MILES

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
WHEN DRIVING (VARIOUS SPEEDS HIGH WAS 70 MPH - LOW WAS 25 MPH - VARIOUS ROADWAYS) VEHICLE LOSES POWER GOES DOWN TO ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR - CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COMES ON-- MESSAGE "SEE MANUAL". HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR 5 MONTHS INITIALLY ONE TIME- MAY GO A MONTH BEFORE HAPPENS AGAIN . FINALLY IT STARTED OCCURRING 3 TIMES WITHIN AND HOUR THEN OK - DID FOR THAT FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS BEFORE TAKING IT TO BE FIXED. CALLED FORD DEALER THEY CLAIMED THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS - SAID IT COULD BE MANY THINGS - I MENTIONED THE REPORTS OF THIS ON 2016 EXPLORED. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP. REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND THROTTLE BODY GASKET ON 2 OCT 2019- ISSUE HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE.

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, TO INCLUDE THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 27, 2019, WHEN THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER WAS TURNED ON, AN ERROR MESSAGE STATING 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD SCREEN. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME OF THE ERROR MESSAGE. THE POWER STEERING WAS DISABLED AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. WE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' FOR THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER BUT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED BASED ON THE VIN. EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUES WE ARE EXPERIENCING ARE IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL, WE MUST INCUR OUR OWN EXPENSES TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 105,000 MILES

POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING AFTER TURNING ON CAR AND PUTTING IT IN DRIVE. . I HAD NO POWER STEERING. TURNED OFF CAR THEN RESTARTED AND THEN I COULD DRIVE.
SINCE I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE IT JERKS BACK AND CLICKS AS THE TRANSMISSION SWITCHES GEAR. NORMALLY BETWEEN 3 AND 4TH GEAR IT SEEMS. MORE IMPORTANTLY ITS OVERHEATING AND LEAKING COOLANT! SAME ISSUE AS FUSIONS AND OTHER SUV FORD OFFERS. THIS SEEMS TO ME LIKE A FIRE HAZARD THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED IN ALL FORDS. IT LEAKS WHEN PARKED. AND OVERHEATS IF THE AC IS IN USE. THE LEAK WAS OUT OF NOWHERE AND SUDDENLY. THE FUEL SENSOR IS ALSO WEAK. *TT*JB
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the power steering failed to operate as needed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had become a recurring failure. The contact also stated that when the Lane Departure: Lane Keep: Automatic Steering was engaged, the function independently disengaged, and the vehicle was drifting out of the lane. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the functionality returned. Additionally, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was notified of a failure with the rear suspension related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V537000 (Suspension) rear toe link. The contact related the steering failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V286000 (Steering). The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 214,000.
VEHICLE'S WATER PUMP BEGAN LEAKING DURING A NORMAL PATROL SHIFT. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF THESE FAIL AT VARIOUS MILEAGES AND EACH REPAIR THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY HAS COST US AROUND $2000.00 EACH TIME. I KNOW THESE ARE NOT ISOLATED INCIDENTS AND THAT THESE WATER PUMPS FAIL OFTEN. I RECALL BEING AT A FLEET CONFERENCE THIS PAST AUGUST AND SEEING A SLIDE DURING A PRESENTATION FROM FORD AND IT SHOWING THE CASTING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD STYLE AND NEW STYLE PUMP. THE OLD CASTING WAS THINNER NEAR THE SEAL AREA AND THAT ALLOWED FOR EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH CAUSED THE SEAL TO FAIL. THE NEW STYLE PUMP HAS A THICKER CASTING TO PREVENT THIS FAULT. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A WARRANTY EXTENSION OR RECALL ON THE THESE PUMPS JUST LIKE FORD ENDED UP DOING FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS.

2013 FORD EXPLORER LTD STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH POWER STEERING. WARNING ICONS CAME UP ON LOWER RIGHT DASHBOARD, SHOWING LACK OF TRACTION CONTROL, THEN TEXT WARNINGS "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND "SERVICE ADVANCED TRAC". AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE AND TRYING TO USE IT AGAIN FOUND STEERING ESSENTIALLY LOCKED. STEERING WHEEL CAN BE TURNED WITH A LOT OF EFFORT, BUT VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN. CONTACTED FORD TO FILE OFFICIAL COMPLAINT. THEY MAINTAIN THEIR OFFICIAL LINE THAT VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER, HAVING BOUGHT THE 2013 MODEL AROUND OCT 2012. HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE PROPERLY. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 177,000 MILES, BUT IS CURRENTLY USELESS, AS I CAN'T EVEN SELL IT IN CURRENT STATE. FORD REP'S ONLY RESPONSE (AT 1-866-436-7332) WAS TO HAVE IT TOWED TO NEAREST FORD DEALER, WHOM WILL THEN CHARGE ME $135 TO "DIAGNOSE" A PROBLEM THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH AND DEMAND AROUND $2K TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. PLEASE ADVISE IF THERE'S A CHANCE FORD WILL DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE MORE PEOPLE GET KILLED DRIVING THEM. I WOULD HAT TO HAVE TO THROW AWAY OVER $40,000 INVESTED IN THIS CAR.
