POWER STEERING FAILED AND REVERTED TO MANUAL STEERING WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET. "POWER STEERING FAULT" MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CENTER. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION, ALTHOUGH IT WAS QUITE DIFFICULT. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE UNDER THE THESE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HARD FOR HER TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN ACCIDENT. ALSO, WE HAVE SMALL CHILDREN THAT COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN ON-BOARD WHICH MAKES THIS ISSUE ALL THE MORE CONCERNING, SINCE THIS VEHICLE IS MAINLY USED TO TRANSPORT CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL. AFTER DRIVING TO A PARKING LOT, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE POWER STEERING RE-ENGAGED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME SAFELY WITHOUT ANY FURTHER ISSUES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE DEALER SCANNED THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FOR CODES AND FOUND A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE THAT REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING GEAR. TOTAL COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR WAS $2,000. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING. IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 74,500 MILES. I WAS INFORMED BY FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T PART OF ANY RECALL AND THERE WERE NO OTHER PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST ME WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR. PER MY ONLINE RESEARCH, THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE FOR THE YEAR OF MY VEHICLE, BUT IT APPEARS MY BUILD DATE IS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT MAKES NO SENSE WHY CERTAIN VEHICLES ARE EXCLUDED, WHEN THE ISSUE HAS CLEARLY BEEN IDENTIFIED AND ADDRESSED IN OTHER VEHICLES BUILT IN THE SAME YEAR. I AM REQUESTING THAT THE NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE DESCRIBED ABOVE AND ISSUE ADDITIONAL RECALLS.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THOUGHT THAT SOMETHING HIT MY WINDSHIELD. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND EXAMINE MY VEHICLE, IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT A LARGE PIECE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD MOLDING BROKE OFF AND THE RUBBER STRIPPING UNDERNEATH THAT PART CAME LOOSE AS WELL. I ALSO FOUND THAT A SMALL PIECE OF WINDSHIELD MOLDING BROKE OFF ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AS WELL. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE AN ISOLATED INCIDENT, HOWEVER, WHEN WE CHECKED ONLINE FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS WE NOTICED THAT THERE WERE HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF PURCHASES MADE FOR THESE PARTICULAR PARTS. THEY ARE NOT CHEAP AND IF THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE PARTS FAILING/BREAKING WHY HASN'T FORD DONE SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE A BREAKING PART HITS ANOTHER VEHICLE OR CAUSES AN ACCIDENT? I ALSO HAVE FIRST-HAND KNOWLEDGE THAT A FRIEND OF MINE IS EXPERIENCING A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM AND WHEN HIS RUBBER CAME LOOSE, FLAPPING AROUND AS MINE DID, IT WAS ENOUGH OF A DISTRACTION THAT HE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TWO REPAIR ESTIMATES AND WILL BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE THEM UPON REQUEST.

THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. ALSO, THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS CLOSE TO HER RESIDENCE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BEACH FORD (2717 VIRGINIA BEACH BLVD, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA 23452, (757) 486-2717) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK WHEN THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED AGAIN. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN, FAILED TO ACCELERATE, AND SHOOK. THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BEACH FORD, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
POWER STEERING LOSS FOR THE 2ND TIME, EVEN AFTER DEALERSHIP INSPECTION. CLAIMED TO NOT BE A APART OF 2013 RECALL LIST.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. DEALERSHIP SAYS THROWING OUT CODES FOR FORD RECALL # 14S06. THEY SAID MY CAR WAS NOT IN RECALL SINCE IT WAS BUILT IN MAY OF 2012. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NO HELP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT CAMPGROUND AND AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING LOST POWER. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED ON THE FRITTS FORD DEALER (951-687-2121, LOCATED AT 8000 AUTO DR, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504) AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.
I NOTICED THE OUTSIDE TRIM AROUND THE SIDES OF THE WINDSHIELD APPEARED LOOSE ON THE DRIVER BUT MOSTLY PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR. A FEW WEEKS LATER WHEN I STARTED DRIVING OVER 10 MPH DOWN THE ROAD, I HEARD A NOISE LIKE SOMETHING BEATING AGAINST MY WINDSHIELD. I NOTICED THE RUBBER SEAL AROUND THE WINDSHIELD AND BETWEEN THE TRIM AND THE WINDSHIELD HAD COME OFF AND WAS FLAPPING IN THE WIND AGAINST MY WINDSHIELD AND CAR. THE BODY TRIM IS NOW LOOSE AS WELL. I HAD A LITTLE WATER EVEN LEAK INTO THE CAR. IT WAS VERY DISTRACTING AND ALMOST CAUSED MY WRECK. I HAD TO TEMPORARILY TAPE THE RUBBER TRIM DOWN AS IT KEEPS COMING LOOSE AND GETS WORSE AS YOU DRIVE (WHICH YOU HAVE NO CHOICE WHEN YOU ARE NOT CLOSE TO HOME OR CAN'T GET YOUR VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS UNTIL WEEKS LATER).
WE HAVE NOTICED A CAR EXHAUST ODOR IN OUR VEHICLE WHILE AT A STANDSTILL. THE ODOR COMES AND GOES AND WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT IS CAUSING IT. IT SEEMS THAT CAR EXHAUST IS COMING INTO THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE CAR'S VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE DEALER SHIP COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE DID HAVE THE FORD CARBON MONOXIDE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM COMPLETED.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT ENGINE SHUT OFF UNDER ALL DRIVING CONDITONS WHICH EXHIBITS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN THE VEHICLE ABRUBTLY LOSES TOTAL POWER WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS RECENTLY BEEN AN ISSUE IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS WHILE MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH IN TRAFFIC. VEHICLE STARTED BACK UP ONCE THE IGNITION WAS TURNED COMPLETELY OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES TO START THE VEHICLE BACK UP. THIS SCENARIO OCCURRED ON THE FREEWAY, IN TOWN DRIVING AND WHILE STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. CONTACTED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND ALL THEY SAID WAS TO BRING IT IN. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND HE WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE ANY ENGINE CODES WHILE RUNNING AN ECU SCAN. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS NOTED ONLINE WITH OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WHO HAVE ATTRIBUTED IT TO A "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT" FAULT. THIS IS THE SAME DIAGNOSIS MY LOCAL MECHANIC CAME UP WITH. THIS RESULTS IN THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE TO RECEIVE A THROTTLE POSITION IN THE WIDE OPEN INDICATION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING OPERATED IN OAHU, HAWAII. I AM CURRENTLY DEPLOYED TO THE MIDDLE EAST SO I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY WHILE THIS IS THE ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE TO THEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,226. *BF *JB
PILLARS FLYING OFF CAR AND POWER TRANSFER UNIT NOT WORKING
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT.. WHILE OPERATING A VEHICLE FAULT COMES ON STEERING GETS HARD HARD TO CONTROL CAUSING MY WIFE TO ALMOST GET TO AN ACCIDENT. IT ONLY COMES ON ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE TO RESET ITS YOU HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON IT ONLY HAPPENS IN THE MORNING WHEN SHE'S TAKING THE KIDS TO SCHOOL IT'S RARE BUT IT'S HAPPENED FOUR TIMES ALREADY
STEERING IS HARD TO STEER. FEELS LIKE YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING. DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME JUST WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING SLOW. ALSO PAINT ON THE HOOD PEELING OFF. TOOK TO A GARAGE FOR THE STEERING AND THEY SAY IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE BUT NO RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER AND BEGAN TO FEEL AS IF I WAS ABOUT TO PASS OUT. I PULLED OVER A FEW TIMES BUT I KEPT FEELING WORSE. I PARKED AND CALLED A FRIEND TO TAKE ME TO EMERGENCY. ALTHOUGH I WAS SHAKING AND FELT FAINT, THE DOCTORS COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE. HOSPITALS DO NOT TEST FOR CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS UNLESS REQUESTED - AT THE TIME IT WOULDN'T HAVE CROSSED MY MIND. THE FOLLOWING DAY I DROVE MY CAR AND THIS PHYSICAL REACTION HAPPENED AGAIN. I THEN REALIZED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING IN MY CAR THAT WAS CAUSING THIS. I TOOK MY CAR TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY FOUND THAT I HAD CARBON MONOXIDE LEAKING INTO THE CABIN. I BELIEVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE MANDATORY RECALLS FOR THESE CARS, NOT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAMS. THEIR LETTERS STATE THAT 'THESE VEHICLES ARE SAFE', AND CLEARLY THAT IS MISLEADING AND UNTRUE.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY POWER STEERING SENSOR FLASHED ON THE DASH SAYING TO SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER I FOUND MYSELF BATTLING TO CHANGE LANES AND TURN ALL TOGETHER. MY POWER COMPLETELY CUT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOING SPEEDS OF UP TO 50 MPH. IVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE OR EVEN A WARNING BEFOREHAND. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO MY MAKE AND MODEL AS MY VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED 30 DAYS SHORT OF THE RECALL.

THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH GULLO FORD OF CONROE (925 INTERSTATE 45 S, CONROE, TX 77301, (281) 367-0000). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING CONTINUES TO APPEAR AFTER DRIVER DOOR IS SHUT. ONCE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND COMES TO A STOP, THE WARNING WILL AUDIBLY BEEP AND DISPLAY A MESSAGE TO SHIFT TO PARK, THUS DISTRACTING THE DRIVER. THE WARNING PREVENTS THE DOME LIGHTS WAS SHUTTING OFF UNTIL THE CAR IS IN MOTION. ALL OF WHICH IS A DRAIN ON THE CAR BATTERY. ISSUE APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY CAR DOOR SENSOR. I'VE CLEANED IT, BUT IT ONLY OFFERED A TEMPORARY FIX.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed on the freeway, one of the windshield exterior A-Pillar trims separated and flew off the vehicle. The trim was replaced by the dealer. Additionally, the contact stated that the passenger's and driver's side windshield exterior A-Pillar trims had detached. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
WHILE DRIVING POWER STEERING JUST GAVE OUT AND CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT OCCURED, BUT THERE WAS NO WARNING OR MESSAGE FROM THE VEHICLE JUST LOSS OF CONTROL. LOOKED UP PROBLEMS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE AND FOUND RECALL 14S06. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME AS DESCRIBED BY THE RECALL.
DOES NOT SHOW UP IN PARK WHEN IN PARK. IF THE IN PARK IS NOT LIT UP IT WILL LEAVE RELAYS WILL BE LEFT OPEN AND RUN DOWN BATTERY.HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND THERE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THIS ISSUE ON MULTIPLE DIFFERENT VEHICLES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO STERLING MCCALL FORD (6445 SOUTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON TX 77074, (281) 588-5000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,246.
I AM REQUESTING THAT THE DOT NHTSA LOOK INTO THE POSSIBILITY OF A TIRE DEFECT THAT CAN AFFECT THE SAFE OPERATION OF VEHICLES WITH COOPER DISCOVERER SRX TIRES. I PURCHASED A SET OF 4 COOPER DISCOVERER SRX TIRES AND HAD THEM PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED ON MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE SIZE IS 255/50R20. DURING THE WINTER OF 2018-19 THEY BEGAN TO LEAK AIR EXCESSIVELY WHEN IT WAS COLD. THE LOSS WOULD GROW TO A POINT THE LOW AIR LIGHT CAME ON EVERY WEEK. IT WAS VARIOUS TIRES CAUSING THE ISSUE. THIS CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE WINTER AND INTO THE SPRING OF 2019. THE LEAKS ARE MORE SEVERE WHEN DRIVING THAN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. I BELIEVE THE TIRES MAY HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED TO THE POINT THAT THEY ARE CONTINUING TO LEAK WHEN IT IS WARM OUTSIDE NOW. OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS I HAVE HAD THEM IN 2 SEPARATE TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE TIRES DO NOT HAVE A HOLE IN THEM NOR LEAK AT THE BEAD BUT ARE LEAKING DUE TO WEATHER OR OTHER. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS WITH COOPER TIRES TO HANDLE THE SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY NOT HANDLED THEIR WARRANTY MATTER. I HAVE BEEN TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERS WHO SENT ME BACK TO THE ORIGINAL INSTALLER AND THEY HAVE HAD THEM OFF TWO TIMES TO VERIFY THE ISSUE. BEFORE THIS SAFETY ISSUE BECOMES A SERIOUS INCIDENT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE TIRES INVESTIGATED OR POSSIBLY RECALLED. THE FORD EXPLORER COMES WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. MINE IS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AND QUITS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SLOW TURNS. I CHECKED ONLINE AND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THESE VEHICLES AND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL...HOWEVER, MY VIN IS NOT ONE THEM... AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT. FORD NEEDS TO EXPAND ITS RECALL.
CORROSION OF THE AC LINES RUNNING UNDER THE VEHICLE AND OF THE REAR AC CONDENSER HOUSING, WHICH IS EXPOSED TO THE ENVIRONMENT, CAUSED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE AC SYSTEM AND ALLOWED ALL OF THE REFRIGERANT TO LEAK INTO THE ENVIRONMENT.
ON 18 APRIL 2019 FILED COMPLAINT NUMBER: 11197130. POWER STEERING WAS JUST BECOMING DIFFICULT TO TURN. CALLED FORD FOR EXISTING RECALL ON POWER STEERING (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V286000). FORD STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. ON 20 APRIL 2019 THE POWER STEERING FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30PM IN NEWBURYPORT MA. WIFE WAS DRIVING. ALMOST CRASHED INTO POL. STOPPED AT THE LAST SECOND. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL. THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF A YOUNG DRIVER WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL.
THE HORN FROM THE STEERING PAD ISN'T WORKING. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER ON 3 OCCASIONS & THEY HAVE STATED THE HORN IS OPERABLE AND THEY DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. HOWEVER, THE HORN STOPS WORKING WITHIN 24 HOURS. THE ALARM HORN DOES OPERATE WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE'S SOME WIRING/MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH CONTACT WHEN PRESSING THE STEERING WHEEL HORN PAD. A CASE WAS FILED W/ FORD CUSTOMER CARE WHO REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY 'FOUND' THE HORN TO BE OPERABLE & STOPPED WORKING ON A SATURDAY MORNING. ON 4/29/19 I CONTACTED FORD AGAIN AND THE REPRESENTATIVE PRETTY MUCH SAID THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY & THERE ARE NO EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON THE CAR SO I WAS OUT OF LUCK. INTERIOR OF VEHICLE TAKING IN WATER FROM RAIN SHOWERS (NOT EVEN BAD RAIN SHOWERS), WATER IS COMING IN FROM THE ROOF WHERE THE WINDSHIELD MEETS THE ROOF AND ABSORBING AROUND THE SUNGLASS HOLDER/INTERIOR LIGHTS AND DRIPPING DOWN ONTO RADIO/NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND COMPLETELY SOAKS THE FLOOR BOARD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I'VE HAD THE DOOR SEAL REPLACED RECENTLY AND THE DEALER TELLS ME ITS A DIFFERENT ISSUE, WITHOUT EVEN EVALUATING IT. AT ANY RATE THIS WATER COMING INTO THE VEHICLE IS A HUGE ISSUE ESPECIALLY THAT IT'S SITTING IN THE CAR ROTTING EVERYTHING OUT AND DRIPPING ONTO ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS THREATENING THE INTEGRITY OF ANY ELECTRICAL OR DASH OPERATIONS. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ON A LARGER ISSUE. LAST YEAR MY POWER STEERING ON MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER FAILED. IT WAS PARKED AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN IT ON IT SAID POWER STEERING FAILURE. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT A RECALL I WAS TOLD MY CAR DID NOT FALL UNDER THE SPECIFICATIONS, SO I HAD TO PAY TO GET THE POWER STEERING REPLACED (ROUGHLY $1,400). NINE MONTHS LATER MY POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN, THIS TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN AURORA ROAD AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHICH CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL
VEHICLE'S WATER PUMP BEGAN LEAKING DURING A NORMAL PATROL SHIFT. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF THESE FAIL AT VARIOUS MILEAGES AND EACH REPAIR THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY HAS COST US AROUND $2000.00 EACH TIME. I KNOW THESE ARE NOT ISOLATED INCIDENTS AND THAT THESE WATER PUMPS FAIL OFTEN. I RECALL BEING AT A FLEET CONFERENCE THIS PAST AUGUST AND SEEING A SLIDE DURING A PRESENTATION FROM FORD AND IT SHOWING THE CASTING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD STYLE AND NEW STYLE PUMP. THE OLD CASTING WAS THINNER NEAR THE SEAL AREA AND THAT ALLOWED FOR EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH CAUSED THE SEAL TO FAIL. THE NEW STYLE PUMP HAS A THICKER CASTING TO PREVENT THIS FAULT. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A WARRANTY EXTENSION OR RECALL ON THE THESE PUMPS JUST LIKE FORD ENDED UP DOING FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS.

THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME AFTER I TOLD THEM THIS SHOULD BE PART OF A RECALL. THEY SAID HOLD ON TO RECEIPTS IN CASE IN THE FUTURE THERE WAS A RECALL SO I COULD GET REIMBURSED. MILEAGE 77,033.
