WHEN I START MY VEHICLE I GET A WARNING THAT SAYS, "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND I CAN NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL WHATSOEVER. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ALTHOUGH THIS TIME THE VEHICLE IS NOT ABLE TO TURN AT ALL ANYMORE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND AFTER 3-5 ATTEMPTS OF STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE TO LEAVE, AS I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE WHEELS WOULDN'T TURN AND MY VEHICLE WENT STRAIGHT BACKWARDS. AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS THE ISSUE WAS SELF RESOLVED. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED WHICH WAS THE MOST RECENT I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND GOT THE WARNING AGAIN AND CHECKED THE WHEELS AND THEY WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. THE VEHICLE IS NOW STUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WILL ONLY GO FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS AS THE WHEELS DO NOT TURN AT ALL. NOTHING SEEMS TO BE RESOLVING THE ISSUE NOW. NOT EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS DO I GET THE WARNING ON THE DASH FIRST, ONLY AFTER IT HAPPENS DO I GET A NOTIFICATION ON THE DASH. I AM JUST GLAD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR.
FAILURE OF STEERING GEAR. STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT AND ATTEMPTS TO HANG AFTER A TURN. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2013 EXPLORERS FOR SIMILAR REASONS, BUT ONLY CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ON LINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY FORD DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND HAS REFUSED TO EXTEND THE RECALL. REPAIR COST $1850.
POWER STEERING BECAME VERY INTERMITTENT NO LIGHTS COME ON NO WARNING THEN NO POWER STEERING STILL HAVE TO MANUALLY PULL WHEEL TO TURN ALL WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE
PAINT BUBBLING ON ALUMINUM SURFACES HOOD AND DOOR SKINS, REFERRED BACK TO DEALER WHO REPAINTS AND REOCCURS UNTIL OUT OF WARRANTEE. STEERING FAILURE INTERMITTENT ACCUTRAC CONTROL REQUIRING TOWING AND COMPUTER RESET. CAN FAIL WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN NO OR DIFFICULT STEERING. MULTIPLE TIMES RESET NO CHARGE. ESTIMATE TO REPAIR $2500
MY 2013 EXPLORER HAD COME BUBBLES COMING UP ALONG THE EDGE OF THE HOOD. I THOUGHT IT WAS A BODY WORK ISSUE BUT THE BODY SHOP SAID IT IS ACTUALLY CORROSION FROM THE ALUMINUM HOOD. THE CORROSION IS PROGRESSING AND GETTING WORSE. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY LEAVE MY HOOD STRUCTURALLY UNSOUND AND EXPOSE ALL THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS TO THE ELEMENTS FOR DEGRADATION.
RACK AND PINON IN THESE MODEL VECHILES AS WELL AS INNER AND OUTER TIRE RODS ARE FAULTY. THE RACK AND PINION CAN SIEZE MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL IN OPERABLE.
I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 2012. I HAVE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THERE WAS A RECALL #14S06 IN 2014 THAT DID NOT INCLUDE MY CAR, WHICH WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE SAME YEAR. THE CARS STEERING ISSUE IS A MECHANICAL MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I AM TOLD THAT "BECAUSE MY CAR WAS NOT LISTED WITHIN THE DATES LISTED WITHIN THE YEAR 2012 THAT THE RECALL WAS ISSUED". DESPITE NOTICES, THERE IS STILL A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THAT I WAS TOLD THAT FORD WOULD NOT RESOLVE. THIS DEFECT IS THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 100K ON IT. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT JUST SUDDENLY LOCKED UP AND WOULDN'T EVEN TURN AND BECAME INOPERABLE. I WOULD JUST LIKE FORD TO PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT OR REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM NOT TRYING TO GET THEM TO BUY ME A NEW CAR. THE DEALER IS CHARGING $2500+ TO REPAIR IT. I BELIEVE THAT FORD KNEW OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT ONLY BE LIMITED TO CARS THAT WERE WITHIN A CERTAIN TIME FRAME, RATHER, THEY KNEW OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE ISSUE COULD EXTEND TO OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME TYPE THAT WERE MANUFACTURED WITHIN THE SAME YEAR.
A-pillar trim part detached while I was driving. My dealer replaced the following parts at my expense BB5Z7803145AA BB5Z7803137BA. To date I have not been fully reimbursed for the repair by the dealership, Al Cioni Ford, Granville, Illinois.
VEHICLE LOSES POWER WHEN ACCELERATING UP HILL OR ON FLAT SURFACE. TAKE OFF POWER IS DIMISHED AND VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES DIE UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN ACCELERATING.
CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF. I WAS DOWNHILL ON A SNOWY ROAD AND THE TACHOMETER WENT TO 4000 RPM AND MY CAR STARTED TO SKID. THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTED AS IF IT WAS ON AND DOWNSHIFTED. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO GAIN CONTROL.
POWER TRANSFER UNIT "PTU" BEGAN LEAKING SPONTANEOUSLY; LOOKS LIKE LEAKING MOTOR OIL ON THE GROUND. CAUSED GRINDING NOISE AND DANGEROUS TRANSMISSION ISSUES WHEN DRIVING. SOLUTION WAS REPLACEMENT OF THE PTU WHICH COST $1650 BY FORD SERVICE.
MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF A RECALL (RECALL # 14S06) FOR OTHER 2013 FORD EXPLORERS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED 5 MONTHS EARLIER. AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHILE TURNING, THE VEHICLES STEERING STICKS AND IS NOW MAKING A ROARING SOUND THAT'S COMING FROM THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY.
STEERING STICKS AS YOUR TURNING, IN ANY DIRECTION OR SPEED INCLUDING STATIONARY. THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO STEER SMOOTHLY AND FREQUENTLY CAUSES IT TO CROSS THE CENTERLINE AND OFF ROAD! NOT SAFE!
MY VEHICLE WAS IN A STATIONARY POSITION WHEN THE 'SHIFT TO PARK LIGHT ILLUMINATED'. THIS IS A REAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN SINCE THE VEHICLE COULD ROLE.
I LOSS POWER ON STEERING WHEEL WHILE I WAS DRIVEN. STEERING WHEEL SHUT DOWN I WAS LUCKY THAT POWER CAME BACK I REPLACE THE STEERING WHEEL BUT THEY DIDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. I'M SCARE DRIVEN THE SUV
POWER STEERING ASSIST. STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING. MAKING THIS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT OTHER DRIVERS ALSO. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE JUST NOT MY VIN. PLEASE EXPAND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE MY CAR BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS. THANKS.
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STAY ENGAGED IN PARK. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS BEEN REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THIS TIME IT ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO SOMEONE ELSE'S VEHICLE. OUR VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AT THE TOP OF THE DRIVEWAY FOR NEARLY 2 HOURS BEFORE THE PERSON PARKED BEHIND OR VEHICLE. THEY WHERE AT OUR HOUSE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, WHEN THEY WHERE LEAVING WE NOTICED THAT OUR VEHICLE HAD DISENGAGED FROM PARK AND ROLLED 15' DOWN THE DRIVEWAY INTO THEIR VEHICLE. THANKFULLY, THERE WERE ONLY A FEW SCRATCHES ON EITHER VEHICLE. OUR DRIVEWAY IS FAIRLY FLAT, IT HAS A 1-3 DEGREE SLOPE TO IT. LEADING TO THE CONCLUSION, THAT THERE IS NOT A LARGE INCLINE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FORCED OUT OF PARK. THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION IS ENGAGED INTO PARK OR THERE IS YET ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFT LINKAGE. THE SHIFT LINKAGE WAS ADJUSTED THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. THE SECOND TIME THE SHIFT LINKAGE WAS REPLACED. WE ARE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY TO SEE WHAT THEY FEEL NEEDS REPLACED THIS TIME.
I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, PREPARING TO STOP. I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 65/70 MPH. WHEN PRESSING ON THE BREAKS THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I PUMPED THE BREAKS. THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME WHERE AT A STOP AND GETTING CLOSER VERY QUICKLY. I PUSHED AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE BREAK AND THEN TRIED TO PUSH ON THE EMERGENCY BREAK LOCATED ON THE FLOOR. IT ONLY KICKED BACK. SECONDS LATER I HAD A DIRECT IMPACT WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. AIRBAG DEPLOYED! THERE ARE NO SKID MARKS ON THE ROAD! THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP!!!

DRIVING POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON ALMOST CRASHED COULD NOT TURN WHEEL. CALLED FORD SAID NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL BUT ALL OTHER FORDS ARE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF MILES THIS NEED TO BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER STEERING RECALL
EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE THE CAR. STARTED WHEN PARKED WITH ENGINE TURNED ON, CONTINUED WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET AND HIGHWAY. AT THE BEGINNING WAS NOT SURE IF IT IS FROM MY CAR, OPENED WINDOWS, THEN CLOSED THEM AGAIN COUPLE TIMES AND THE SMELL CONTINUED. HAD TO DRIVE WITH OPEN WINDOWS TO GET HOME. MY DAUGHTER, ME ,DOG AND CAR SEATS AND BLANKETS SMELLED VERY BAD, HAD TO WASH EVERYTHING. PLUS STARTED TO HAVE LIGHT HEADACHE WHILE DRIVING.

OTHER TIMES, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO UPPER MARLBORO FORD (5701 CRAIN HWY, UPPER MARLBORO, MD 20772, (301) 627-5600) WHERE THE MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DECLINED DUE TO THE REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

SECONDS LATER, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON IN ORDER FOR IT TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANDERSON FORD (124 S SANGAMON AVE, GIBSON CITY, IL 60936, (217)784-4119) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,200.
I WAS DRIVING AND CAR MADE THIS SOUND LIKE THE TIRE GOING FLAT SO I QENT TO COUNTRY FAIR AND PUMPED UP MY TIRES,MY TIRE LIGHT AND WORNING NEVER CAME ON THAT IT THE FORST THING ,ANYWAY I CONTINUED TO GO HOME WHEN A MILE FROM MY HOME THE CAR WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT I STOPPED GOT OUT TO LOOK AND HALF THE RUBBER WAS OFF THE RIM .I DID NOT HIT MO POT HOLES OR NO CURB.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,342.

THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO METRO FORD (LOCATED AT 9000 NW 7TH AVE, MIAMI, FL 33150, (305) 751-9711) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT CALLED METRO FORD AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL PINES FORD (LOCATED AT 8655 PINES BLVD, PEMBROKE PINES, FL 33024, (954) 443-7000) TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PINES FORD, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT. WHILE DRIVE 55 MPH THE STEERING WENT OUT THE CAR CROSSED CENTER LINE ALMOST HITTING AN ONCOMING CAR. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE. FORD HAS A RECALL ON THE SAME VEHICLE MODEL YEARS AS MINE 2011-2013 RECALL L#14S06. THIS CAR WAS MADE AT THE SAME TIME IN THE SAME PLANT IN CHICAGO, YET THEY WILL NOT FIX THIS $2,000 PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. AN ENGINEER WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE FAILURE, BUT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUNNYVALE FORD (650 E EL CAMINO REAL, SUNNYVALE, CA 94087, (408) 215-9949), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND A FUEL ODOR EMITTED THROUGH THE VENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SANTOS FORD (617 W PACHECO BLVD, LOS BANOS, CA 93635, (888) 312-2705) AND CODE: P0456 WAS LOCATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL LEAK COMING FROM THE REAR END AND THE FUEL TANK WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V812000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); HOWEVER, THE REPAIRED DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
POWER STEERING TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD! AND THEN THE WHOLE CAR DIED
THE VEHICLE STEERING ASSIST IS NOT FUNCTIONING. CAN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO NO POWER STEERING. UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
LIKE RECALL NUMBER 14S06, MY EXPLORERS POWER STEERING ASSIST IS INTERMITTENT AND WILL SOMETIMES WILL NOT WORK AT ALL. I'VE CHECKED WITH A LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAY THAT IT IS NOT A RECALL UNDER OUR VIN. THIS VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WITH BOTH OF OUR YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. CAUTION LIGHTS CAME ON 2 MILES FROM THE HOUSE. AFTER PARKING THE SYSTEM FAILED COMPLETELY.
WHILE DRIVING ON US HIGHWAY 190 EAST, I LOST FULL CONTROL OF MY STEERING WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS (LOST OF POWER STEERING). I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN PROPER CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SINCE I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEED (35MPH) AS I WAS SLOWING TO MAKE RIGHT TURN OFF OF HIGHWAY ONTO A PARISH ROADWAY WHEN THE STEERING HAD FAILED.
MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE CAUTION LIGHT CAME ON SAYING DRIVERS SIDE DOOR NOT LATCHED AND MY DOOR STARTED TO OPEN. I PULLED OVER AND COULDN'T GET THE DOOR TO LATCH SHUT. AFTER WORKING WITH IT IT LATCHED SO I COULD GET HOME. THE NEXT TIME I GOT INTO MY DRIVERS SIDE THE SAME THING, MY DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. THIS TIME I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE AND COULD NOT. THE LATCH IT STILL BROKEN, A PIECE OF THE HANDLE ACTUALLY FELL OFF. MY CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF , KEPT IN A GARAGE , LOW MILES ETC. OUR FRIEND MENTIONED THEIR FORD HAVING A RECALL ON THE DOOR LATCH. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT WASN'T IMPLEMENTED ON ALL 2013 EXPLORERS.
WHILE DRIVING ON MODERATELY BUSY INTERSTATE ALL TERRAIN SENSOR WARNING SIGN AND ORANGE WRENCH APPEARED ON DASH AS THE CAR LOST POWER AND FAILED TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS IN SHUTDOWN MODE. LET ME PULL OVER TO ACCIDENT LANE AT ALMOST 0 MPH. TERRIFYING. TURNED OFF MOTOR AND UPON RESTART CAR WAS FINE. DROVE TO DEALER THAT INTERROGATED COMPUTER AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES. HAVE BEEN A FORD DRIVER FOR 20+ YEARS AND UNDERSTAND ELECTRONICS CAN BE FAULTY, HAVE SEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING BUT NO RECALL. NOT HAPPY THAT THERE IS NO IDENTIFIED CAUSE

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. JONES-WEST FORD (3600 KIETZKE LN, RENO, NV 89502, (775) 329-8800) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
DRIVING ON NYS THRUWAY AT 70 MPH. ROADWAY DRY, WEATHER IS CLEAR, DRY AND SUNNY. SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGNS THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY LURCHED TO THE LEFT, RIGHT, SIDEWAYS, ETC. THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO BE STEERED AND WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF THE DRIVER'S CONTROL AND NOT RESPONDING TO ANY INPUT. THIS REPEATED ITSELF UNTIL THE CAR SCRUBBED SPEED AND ENDED UP ON THE ROAD SHOULDER. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES ON OUR SIDE OR FOLLOWING CLOSELY BEHIND WHEN THE WILD RIDE OCCURRED. WE ARE ALSO FORTUNATE THAT THE CAR DIDN'T ROLL OVER DURING THE SIDEWAYS MOVEMENTS- IT CAME CLOSE TO IT. AT THIS POINT THE CAR'S STEERING WOBBLE WAS SO SEVERE THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPERATE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER AND UPON EXAMINATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK HAD SNAPPED CAUSING THE KNUCKLE AND WHEEL BEARING TO SHIFT WHICH THEN CAUSED THE INCIDENT. THE FORD PEOPLE COULD OFFER NO EXPLANATION AS TO THE CAUSE OF THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.THIS EXACT FAILURE IS ADDRESSED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN #16V245 AND WAS SUBJECT TO FORD RECALL #16S18 IN APRIL 2016. THE RECALL APPLIED TO 2014 EXPLORERS- MINE IS A 2013. THIS CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE ($1600) BUT I WILL NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN. THERE EXIST A POTENTIALLY FATAL FLAW WITH THESE VEHICLES AND WE CONSIDER OURSELVES FORTUNATE TO ESCAPE WITH NO INJURY OR WORSE. TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING IS MAKING A WHINING AND GRINDING NOISE.
THE INSIDE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL FILLS WITH WATER. THIS APPARENTLY IS AN ENGINEERING ISSUE SINCE I SAW THINGS ONLINE ABOUT IT. MOLD IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS PROBLEM GROWING ON THE WHEEL COVER. WHAT IS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE
STARTED TO MAKE A WEIRD NOISE WHILE TURNING/STEERING, THEN STARTED TO FEEL TIGHT OR JERK WHEN TRYING TO STEER, ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. BROUGHT TO FORD AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND OF COURSE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER IT. IT WOULD BE AROUND $2,000 TO REPLACE. RESEARCHED THAT A LOT OF EXPLORERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT ONLY A CERTAIN AMOUNT MADE THE RECALL LIST. WILL NOT DRIVE UNTIL CAN AFFORD TO FIX BECAUSE IT FEELS UNSAFE ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE.
WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN POWER STEERING WAS LOST. CAUSED A SHARP PULL TO THE RIGHT, AND NEARLY CRASHED, I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH I HAD TIME TO STOP BEFORE IMPACT. SEVERAL WARNINGS CAME IN THE SCREEN SUCH AS POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT.
I SHOW FORD HAS A RECALL #14V286000 DATED 5/29/14 FOR STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAILURE. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD THE STEERING ASSIST FAIL TWICE WHILE I'VE BEEN DRIVING AND THIS RECALL DOES NOT SHOW UP UNDER MY VIN. I FIND IT IRONIC THAT THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, MODEL VEHICLE HAS THIS RECALL ISSUED, AND THE FAILURE HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE, YET THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY SPECIFIC VIN. I JUST SPENT $1,700 AT NORTH COUNTY FORD IN VISTA CA TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED, THE PARTS ALONE WERE $1,350.
