AFTER JUST 63,000 MILES BOTH TURBOS ON MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER SPORT FAILED. ONE WAS CONFIRMED AS LEAKING OIL WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE'S TIMING COVER WAS LEAKING, ALSO AT RISK FOR ENGINE FIRE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IMMACULATELY MAINTAINED WITH ALL SCHEDULED SERVICE AND TIMELY SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that after visually inspecting the rear hatch, he observed corrosion damage at the base of the hatch from outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed the corrosion with no specific diagnosis but advised that the hatch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 36,000.
I HAVE A 2015 FORD EXPLORER, MY DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD PILLAR/TRIM FLEW OFF WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS A DEFECT. I FOUND THIS FORUM THAT HAS A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM BUT YET A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. AT THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE MAN STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES? ODD, NOT EXACTLY THEY ARE AWARE THAT AT SOME POINT THE OTHER SIDE IS BOUND TO FLY OFF ALSO. I WAS TOLD ALTHOUGH I HAVE WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MI, THIS IS NOT COVERED. SO NEXT STEP WAS TO CONTACT FORD WHO THEN STATED THAT THEY AND NHTSA DO RIGOROUS SAFETY TESTING AND HAVE NOT COME TO A CONCLUSION THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE. I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY THIS TRIM FLYING OFF MY VEHICLE COULD OF HIT A MOTORCYCLIST OR ANOTHER WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED DAMAGE. NOT TO MENTION, IT HIT MY WINDSHIELD BEFORE FLYING OFF THAT SCARED ME. SO APPARENTLY THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH REPORTS. AND I WAS TOLD BY A FORD CS REP THAT FORUMS ON THE INTERNET ARE NOT CONSIDERED UNLESS IT IS A FORD FORUM.
THE SUV IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WE BOUGHT IT NEW FROM THE LOT THEN. I NOTICED TODAY THE HOOD IS BUBBLING UP AND THE PAINT IS CHIPPING OFF. THIS DRIVERS DOOR IS CRACKING AT THE SEEM. VERY POOR QUALITY FROM FORD.
EXHAUST SMELL IN VEHICLE CABIN WHILE DRIVING. INCREASED CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS WHILE DRIVING, DETECTED LEVELS USING A CARBON MONOXIDE TESTER. LEVELS INCREASE WHEN VEHICLE IS TRAVELING UPHILL. LEVELS GENERALLY INCREASE TO 20 ON HILLS, HAVE GONE AS HIGH AS 38 ON OCCASION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ARNIE'S FORD (119 E 3RD ST, WAYNE, NE 68787, (800) 467-3780) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE RESEALED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. 119 E 3RD ST, WAYNE, NE 68787 (800) 467-3780
A KNOCKING/POPPING NOISE COULD BE HEARD WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. IT FIRST STARTED WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT IN REVERSE WHEN THE SUV WAS IN MOTION. I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE COULDN'T FIND THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE (NO DAMAGE WAS VISIBLE). THE NOISE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. THE KNOCKING/POPPING NOISE HAPPENED WHENEVER THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED (LEFT OR RIGHT, FORWARD OR REVERSE, STATIONARY OR IN MOTION). THEN THE POWER STEERING SEIZED. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 25 MILES AN HOUR ON A SECONDARY ROAD. I WAS TURNING AROUND A BEND TO THE RIGHT AND LOST THE POWER STEERING. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL. LUCKILY, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED AFTER A FEW SECONDS. I RETURNED HOME AND IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED SERVICE AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. IT TOOK THEM FIVE WEEKS TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM.THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE MY 2015 EXPLORER XLT ONLY HAD 29,000 MILES ON IT, THE MECHANIC TRIED TO GET FORD TO COVER THE ENTIRE COST (BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY EXPIRED, AND THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY). FORD AGREED TO COVER HALF, WHICH TELLS ME THAT THEY ADMIT THAT THE STEERING GEAR IS DEFECTIVE, AND SHOULDN'T FAIL AT 29,000 MILES. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT AND FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED!
HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE KIDS INTO TOWN FOR EARLY PRACTICE. AFTER ALMOST A 45 MINUTE DRIVE WHEN HE GOT BACK THE DRIVERS REAR BRAKE WAS GLOWING RED AND SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING. THIS COULD OF CAUSED A FIRE IF HE DROVE IT LONGER.
I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCE A NATURAL GAS SMELL FOR THE PAST MONTH. IT GROWS STRONGER THE LONGER I DRIVE. THE SMELL IS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR. PASSENGERS INCLUDING MY KIDS HAVE COMPLAINED OF NAUSEA AND HEADACHES. I HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP ON 11/20/18. AFTER DRIVING FOR 5 MINUTES AFTER THE 'REPAIRS' WERE MADE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT AT THIS POINT...
WHEN I ACCELERATE MY VEHICLE YOU CAN SMELL TGE EXHAUST FUMES AND I INSTANTLY CAN'T BREATHE, GET A HEADACHE, NAUSEATED, AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES I GET VERY SLEEPY. I HAVE TO ROLL MY WINDOW DOWN AND STICK MY HEAD OUT TO BE ABLE TO BREATHE. IT DOESN'T DO IT EVERY TIME BUT IN A 3 HOUR TRIP, IT HAPPENS AT LEAST 4 TIMES DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH ACCELERATING IS HAPPENING. IF MY AC UNIT IS ON HIGH THEN IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO TO BARELY BLOWING AND AS I LET OFF THE ACCLERATOR THEN IT WILL EVENTUALLY CYCLE BACK TO HIGH EVEN THOUGH IT IS ON HIGH. IT IS MAKING ME VERY SICK BECAUSE I'M IN MY CAR SO MUCH. I HAVE TAKEN TO FORD REPEATEDLY, TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, AND THEY CAN'T GET IT FIXED. SOMETIMES TO GET THE AC TO GO BACK TO NORMAL, I HAVE TO STOP SOMEWHERE AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME SINCE A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR IN FEB 2017. MY DOCTOR SAYS THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT PROBLEM IS TO GET RID OF THE CAR BUT I DON'T THINK IT NEEDS TO BE ON THE ROAD AT ALL. IT'LL JUST MAKE SOMEONE ELSE SICK TOO.I STARTED NOTICING THE SMELL IN LATE APRIL 2017 AND IT JUST GOT STRONGER AND I STARTED TAKING IN TO FORD WHEN IT STARTED GETTING REALLY BAD. THE VEHICLE HAD 30000 + MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT.
ONGOING ISSUE SINCE BUYING VEHICLE. CABIN FILLS WITH TERRIBLE EXHAUST ODOR DURING RAPID ACCELERATION ONTO HIGHWAY, OR WHEN GOING UP STEEP HILLS.
POWER STEERING LOSS WHILE DRIVING. 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH 40,908 MILES ON IT. RECEIVED ALERTS ABOUT THE STEERING LOSS AFTER STEERING HAD GONE OUT. NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE STEERING LOSS. ALERTS INCLUDED "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY", "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" AND "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT" IMMEDIATELY HAD THE EXPLORER TOWED TO CLOSEST FORD DEALER.
'TAKATA RECAL' WHEN MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR A FULL DAY WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN OR STARTED. THE FOLLOWING DAY YOU GO TO START THE CAR. IT STARTS NO PROBLEM, ONCE YOUR IN REVERSE THE BATTERY LIGHT WILL COME ON AND AS SOON AS YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE I LOSE ALL POWER AND FUNCTION TO STEER. IF I HIT THE GAS PETAL IT WILL REGAIN POWER. THE LIGHT WILL DISAPPEAR ONLY IF I HIT OK. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL. I ALSO SMELL CARBON DIOXIDE OR GAS FUMES FROM TIME TO TIME
THE AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS IS FAULTY, CAUSING NO AIR BAGS. THE PART TO REPAIR HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER DUE TO HIGH DEMAND. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITHOUT AIRBAG SYSTEM THREE WEEKS WITH ANOTHER TWO WEEKS TO WAIT FOR PART TO ARRIVE.THE PROBLEM BEGUN BEING ADDRESSED IN OCTOBER 2018 AND HAS CONTINUED. PART OF WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED. TOLD IT WAS GOOD TO GO AND TWO WEEKS LATER NO AIRBAGS. SCARY TO HAVE NO AIRBAGS WITH CHILDREN IN CAR. DEALER SAID, BUT YOU STILL HAVE SEATBELTS......
LOSS OF POWER: WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH 3.5L V-6 ENGINE ON THE HIGHWAY (10/04/18), THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER AND LOSE SPEED. PUSHING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR HAD NO AFFECT AND THE CAR RAPIDLY DECELERATED. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH WITH HEAVY VIBRATION. THIS WAS A TERRIFYING AND NEARLY FATAL EXPERIENCE AS FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC STARTED PASSING ME ON BOTH SIDES AS I TRIED TO MOVE OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND LIMPED OFF THE NEAREST EXIT. ONCE OFF THE EXIT I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND SAT FOR 20 MINUTES WHILE I RE-GAINED MY COMPOSURE AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. WHEN HE ARRIVED HE STARTED THE EXPLORER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS CLEARED. MY HUSBAND DRIVE THE CAR HOME USING ONLY BACK ROADS WHILE I FOLLOWED IN HIS CAR. WE CALLED OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. WE STARTED RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ON FORD'S V6 ENGINES WHICH ARE USED ON MULTIPLE SUV'S, CROSSOVERS AND SEDANS. THE RESEARCH I'VE SEEN SHOWS THIS ISSUE HAS AFFECTED MORE THAN 10,000 OWNERS. HOWEVER, IT'S NOT CLEAR IF THE THROTTLE BODY IS FAULTY DUE TO A MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT. IT'S ALSO NOT CLEAR IF REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY IS A PERMANENT FIX. I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND SINCE THIS HAPPENED WE'VE ONLY USED IT FOR SHORTER TRIPS AROUND TOWN. THE FORD DEALER CHECKED THE CAR TODAY (10/08/18) BUT SINCE THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS CLEARED THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I PLEADED WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO NO AVAIL. WE'VE BEEN A FORD FAMILY FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS BUT THIS FAULT AND EVEN WORSE THE FORD SERVICE ADVISOR'S RESPONSE IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE AND THEIR FAMILY ARE KILLED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND FORCE FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL.
I WAS LEAVING THE CRACKER BARREL IN LAKE CITY, TN. I COULDN'T STEER THE CAR. I MADE IT DOWN THE HILL AND TURNED INTO A CONVIENENT STORE PARKING LOT. MY HUSBAND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE IF HE COULD SEE ANYTHING. ALL HE SAW WAS A VERY CORRODED BATTERY. WE HAD HAD THE CAR SERVICED ONE MONTH EARLIER AND THEY DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE BATTERY. ANYWAY, I CALLED RAY VARNER FORD IN CLINTON, TN WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT WOUL HAVE TO BE TOWED IN, SO I CALLED A TOW TRUCK.THE SERVICE MAN SAID THEY WOULD CHECK IT OVER AND CALL ME LATER WHICH HE DID. THE NEWS WAS DEVASTATING WHEN HE SAID IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC STEERING RACK THAT HAD GONE OUT AND IT WOULD COST $1,731 PLUS TAX. I ALMOST FAINTED. MY CAR HAD GONE OUT OF WARRENTEE ON APRIL 24TH AND AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, MY CAR ONLY HAD 25,896 MILES ON IT. I IS NOT MANY MILES FOR A CARE THAT IS 42 MONTHS OLD. THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY IS TWO MONTHS OF MY SOCIAL SECURITY. A LITTLE WHILE LATER HE CALLED AND SAID MY BATTERY WAS LEAKING ACID AND EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER CHARGES WAY MORE FOR A BATTERY THEN YOU CAN BUY SOMEWHERE ELSE, I TOLD HIM TO PUT A NEW ONE IN. WE STILL WONDERED WHY THE GUYS WHO SERVICED MY CAR DIDN'T NOTICE THE CORROSION, UNLESS IT STARTED AFTER THEY SERVICED IT. THE TOTAL BILL CAME TO $2,166.79 AND THEN I WAS REALLY UPSET. I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD GIVE ME A BREAK SINCE I HAD SUCH LOW MILES ON MY CAR, EVEN THOUGH THE 36 MONTH WARRANTEE HAD ALREADY EXPIRED. I READ ON THE INTERNET THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR POWER STEERING WITH THEIR 2015 EXPLORERS, BUT THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL. THE 2011-214 EXPLORERS WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME THING, SO HOW COME NOT THE 2015. MY HUSBAND SAID THE 2015 PROBABLY HAS THE SAME POWER SEETING RACK AS THE ONES THAT WERE RECALLED. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW AND IT HAS CAUSED ME A LOT OF STRESS.
MY VEHICLE IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND THE DRIVER DOOR POWER WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY, ONLY WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE. IT SHOULD GO UP AND DOWN WITH THE SOFT TOUCH OF THE BUTTON HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT THE MOTOR IS GOING OUT BECAUSE WHEN I PUSH FOR THE BUTTON TO ROLL THE WINDOW UP, THE WINDOW WILL GO DOWN. I WILL HOLD THE BUTTON IN THE UP POSITION AND ABOUT HALF WAY UP THE WINDOW WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO DOWN. ON THE SAME DOOR PANEL I ALREADY HAD A RECALL THAT WAS REPAIRED AND NOW THIS STARTED. I AM NOW WONDERING IF THE TWO ARE LINKED SOMEHOW. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY COULD NOT TELL ME IF THIS REPAIR WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH MILEAGE IS WITHIN WARRANTY. I ASKED AND EXPLAINED THAT MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD, HAS 42,500 MILES (AT THE TIME) AND SHE COULDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING REGARDING THE WARRANTY. I DON'T QUITE UNDERSTAND THAT. SAID I WOULD HAVE TO ACTUALLY GO TO THE DEALERSHIP OF MY CHOICE, AGAIN, AND LEAVE MY CAR, AGAIN, AND LET THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND SEE IF IT WOULD BE COVERED. I TOLD HER I DIDN'T WANT TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THOSE STEPS BECAUSE IT WASN'T CONVENIENT. I WANTED TO KNOW IF IT WOULD BE COVERED OR NOT AND I COULD MAKE A DECISION TO FIX. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THERE LACK OF SERVICE.
EXHAUST FUMES IN CAR WHILE DRIVING
CAPTAINS CHAIR BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT, SEATBELT WOULD NO LONGER CONNECT. SEATBELT RECEPTACLE HAD TO BE REPLACED, NOW AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AT ALL TIMES.
ONE DAY MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING AND WE NOTICED A SULFUR/EXHAUST SMELL COMING IN THE CABIN. THE SMELL CAME AND WENT. I HAD A LOCAL DEALER PERFORM A RECALL TO FIX PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE. AS SOON AS WE GOT THE VEHICLE BACK WE NOTICED THE SMELL AGAIN. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP.THEY RECHECKED ALL THE VENTS AND SAID IT SHOULD BE FINE. COUPLE DAYS LATER MY WIFE AND I ALONG WITH OUR 2 KIDS IN THE VEHICLE HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE SMELL WAS SO BAD IT WAS BURNING OUR EYES.HAVE THE VEHICLE PARKED AND HAVENT DROVE IT SINCE
WHEN AT IDLE, EITHER IN PARK OR DRIVE, THE ENGINE RPMS WILL FLUCTUATE AND GO DOWN TO A POINT WHERE THE ENGINEER STALLS OR ALMOST STALLS.
EXHAUST SMELL WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATES. THE CABIN SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ACTIVATED, THE RE-CIRCULATION BUTTON WAS PRESSED AND THE CONTACT BECAME DROWSY AND SLEEPY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN EXHAUST ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT BECAME NAUSEATED AND VOMITED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT HER CHILD WAS ALSO AFFECTED BY THE EXHAUST FUMES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER CHILD WOULD CRY WHILE RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BROADWAY AUTOMOTIVE (LOCATED AT 1010 S MILITARY AVE, GREEN BAY, WI 54304, (920) 499-3131) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GROMMETS IN THE REAR COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE (WHERE THE EXHAUST PIPE WAS LOCATED) WERE FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE CARBON MONOXIDE ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE KEPT FOR AN ADDITIONAL DAY DUE TO THE PARTS BEING ORDERED TO HAVE THE REPAIR COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
THIS COMPLAIN IS FOR FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2015 THAT I OWN AND HAS 26,000MILES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER AND I'VE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH STEERING WHEEL. EVERY TIME WHEN I GET OUT FROM THE PARKING OR TRYING TO PARK THE CAR,I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT AND I GET THIS SQUEEZING NOISE. BESIDE THIS PROBLEM, THE ENGINE MAKES A WHISTLE NOISE WHEN IS PARKED. I HAD THIS WHISTLE NOISE 4MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE CAR FROM THE DEALER. I DID SEND IT TO THE DEALER SERVICE FOR THIS WHISTLE, THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY ISSUE, WHICH IT REALLY UPSET ME.I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD SERVICE AND BRAND ITSELF, AND THE FACT THAT I'M FIND IN MORE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE STEERING WHEEL NOISE AND NOT BEING RECALLED AS A PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED. I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMAND TO ANYONE TO BUY FORD. THIS IS BAD BUSINESS!

MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT WARNING LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STATE TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK WHEN PARKING VEHICLE. SERVICE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT REPRODUCE ERROR. VEHICLE TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE ON 9/21/2018. REPORT ON VEHICLE ON 9/28/2018 STATED THAT POWER TRANSFER UNIT DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR, STEERING COLUMN SWITCH NEEDED REPAIR WHICH MEANT STEERING UNIT NEEDED REPLACING AND INTERLOCK SWITCH ON SHIFTER NEEDED REPLACING. TOTAL COST $5150.00. TRADED VEHICLE IN AND PURCHASED DIFFERENT VEHICLE. VEHICLE NOT PURCHASED FROM DEALERSHIP WHICH ANALYZED REPAIR WORK.
HAVE NOTICED THE POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT. NOTICED SOMETIMES AN OIL LEAK BY THIS SIDE 1 YEAR BEFORE. THIS LEAK WAS NOTIFIED TO THE DEALER IN EVERY SCHEDULED MAINTAINANCE APPOINTMENT. NEVER WAS CORRECTED. NOW THEY TOLD ME I HAVE TO CHANGE THE RACK AND PINION AND WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS UNCOREECTED LEAK COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RACK AND PINION PROBLEM I HAVE NOW.
I JUST FILED A COMPLAINT ON MY VEHICLE STEERING PROBLEM AND AS I HAVE BEEN SURFING THE WEB I FIND THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM A RETIRED UTAH HIGHWAY PATROLMAN WITH 36 YEARS EXPERIENCE AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MORE DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAN THIS. I CANNOT BELIEVE TJHAT SOMETHING HAS NOT BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I CAN GUARANTEE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM.

THANK GOD I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND GOING STRAIGHT BECAUSE IF I HAD BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING AND THERE WERE OTHER VEH. AT AN INTERSECTION THERE WOULD HAVE ALMOST CERTAINLY BEEN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO THANK GOD MY WIFE WAS'NT DRIVING BECAUSE SHE WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO STEER THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO WRANGLE THE CAR TO A NEARBY FORD DEALERSHIP BUT AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPLORERS FURTHER I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A REOCCURING PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. IN MY WILDEST IMAGINATION I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING HAS NOT BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM WILL ABSOLUTELY RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY TO SOMEONE SOON. I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER WITH APPROXIMATELY 34,200 MILES 55-60 MPH ON US 141 IN NORTHERN WI WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL. I HAD AN ALARM TRIGGERED AND A FAULT WARNING ON THE DASH INDICATING A STEERING FAULT AND CLEARED BY PRESSING THE OK ON THE DASH, BUT HAD VERY HEAVY STEERING AND AN INDICATION THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A FORD DEALER BUT THEY WERE NO ABLE TO LOOK AT THE CAR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THEY SUGGESTED I RESTART THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WOULD RESET. THE SYSTEMS DID RESET AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON MY TRIP HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. NO CODES WERE TRIGGERED AND I NOW HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALER TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET ON EXPLORER STEERING PROBLEMS, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON STEERING LOSS FOR 2011-2014 EXPLORERS AND YET THERE ARE STILL MANY COMPLAINS OF STEERING LOSS FOR MODEL YEARS 2015 FORWARD. IT SEEMS THAT THIS VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.

THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED SO THAT NO ONE GETS KILLED
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND I HEARD A LOUD CLUNK AND MY ENGINE LOST ACCELERATION. I COULD NOT INCREASE MY SPEED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND THE CAR WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND WHEN I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR BARELY MOVED. I WAS ALMOST REAR END BY A TRUCK BUT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. THE WRENCH ICON CAME ON MY DASH AND SAID TO TAKE TO DEALER. WHEN I GOT HOME I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND IT SHOWED A P2111 FAULT CODE. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAULTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS MALFUNCTION PUT ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION.

WOULD HAVE BEEN MANAGEABLE IF FAULT OCCURED ON STRAIGHT ROAD, BUT AT ENTRANCE TO CURVE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, WAS UNABLE TO HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO MUSCLE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. BAD SITUATION IF WIFE OR DAUGHTER HAD BEEN DRIVING. TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TODAY, STARTED UP WITH POWER ASSIST FUNCTIONAL ONCE AGAIN, STILL SHOWS FAULTS FOR TERRAIN AND TRACTION CONTROL. POWER STEERING SHOULD NOT DISENGAGE IF A FAULT IS DETECTED IN TERRAIN MANAGEMENT OR TRACTION CONTROL. NO INJURIES, BUT SOME WRIST STRAIN IN MANEUVERING THE STEERING WHEEL UNDER MANUAL CONTROL. NO MEDICAL TREATMENT SOUGHT.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT 30MPH WHEN POWER STEERING FAILED TOOK IT TO SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE THAT FAILED. A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH 40000 MILES ON IT .LOOKS LIKE ALOT MORE PEOPLE HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING "STEERING FAULT" DISPLAYED AND POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER.
WHEN I PUT MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER IN PARK, I GET A MESSAGE STATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION ISN'T IN PARK WHEN INFACT IT IS. I NEED TO PLAY WITH THE GEAR SHIFT BUTTON OR RESTART THE VEHICLE AND KEEP SHIFTING IT FROM PARK TO DRIVE UNTIL THE MESSAGE GOES AWAY. THE ALARM IN THE VEHICLE GOES OFF WHEN I GET THE MESSAGE THAT THE TRANSMISSION ISN'T IN PARK. IT STARTED OUT DOING IT OCCASIONALLY, BUT NOW IT IS CONSISTENT. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR BE PUT ON A RECALL.

IN THE PAST I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AND LOOSING POWER STEERING FUNCTION AND HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN WHEN PULLING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING FUNCTION AND WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS IN A TOWN AREA AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING FUNCTION. THERE IS A FORD RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN FORD EXPLORERS YEARS 2011-2013, BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER.

I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE 6 MONTHS AND HAVE EXPERIENCED A TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT (FAILURE) IN THE SYSTEM WHICH WILL DISENGAGE THE POWER TRAIN AND LOSE FORWARD MOTION, I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TWICE IN THE ROADWAY IN FORWARD MOTION WHILE IN TRAFFIC ON A FOUR LANE ROADWAY ON THE FIRST FAILURE AND A TWO LANE ROADWAY IN FORWARD MOTION ON SECOND FAILURE. BOTH FAILURES REQUIRED ME TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND WAIT A FEW SECONDS FOR THE SYSTEM TO RESET. NOT A SAFE OPTION WHEN SITTING IN TRAFFIC OR ON A MAJOR ROADWAY.. FORD DEALERS LACK THE KNOWLEDGE TO ADDRESS OR CORRECT THE ISSUE AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE STATED FAILURE AND OFFERS NO SOLUTION TO ADDRESS OR CORRECT. THE SYSTEM FAILURE WILL CREATE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH.
