THERE IS AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD. IT IS DUE TO A CIRCUIT FAILURE OR A BROKEN CORD LEADING TO THE DRIVER SIDE MIDDLE ROW SEATBELT AIRBAG. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT A SAFETY ITEM DESIGN BY FORD THAT HAS FAILED IN THE VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT KNOW HOW THIS SAFETY FEATURE BROKE. IF WE WERE TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE THE AIRBAG IS IN THIS STATE, IT WOULD NOT DEPLOY AND PUT MY PASSENGERS LIFE IN MORE JEOPARDY.
Anytime I accelerate above 55-60mph my vehicle smells like it is burning. This smell consumes the cab area for a period of time. I have owned the vehicle for 1 year now and it has done this since the day I purchased it.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the keyless entry pad driver’s side B-pillar detached. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that the driver’s side B-pillar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred after two years. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that the driver’s side B-pillar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred a month later. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the contact was informed that the driver’s side B-pillar needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY FORD EXPERIENCE WITH MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED EDITION THAT WAS BOUGHT FROM HIGLEY FORD. AT 64,000 MILES... YES 4,000 OVER MY WARRANTY MY COMPUTER MODULE FRIED AND I HAD TO REPLACE THAT... $1500 OUT OF MY POCKET... THEN LAST SUMMER MY AC QUIT WORKING FOLLOWED BY MY DRIVERS SIDE SEAT HEATER AND MIRROR ON MY VISOR... THEN HERE RECENTLY I COULD SMELL SOMETHING LIKE BURNT RUBBER AND FOUND OUT SOME SEAL POPPED OFF SO OIL WAS LEAKING.... WHICH IS IN A SPOT THAT YOU CAN'T GET TO UNLESS YOU TAKE THINGS APART...THEN NOW JUST FOUND OUT MY RACK AND PINION WENT OUT... THE STEERING (PART ALONE COSTS $1500)!!! I WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT WAS ALL I GOT. REALLY!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY THE RACK AND PINION! HOW THE HELL DOES THAT GO OUT...I'M A NIGHT NURSE THAT DRIVES TO WORK AND BACK AND THAT'S ABOUT ALL! I'VE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, IN THE DITCH AND I DON'T TEAR AROUND IN MY CAR. I WENT TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND MY VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER MY VEHICLE. I MANAGED TO AT LEAST BACK IT STRAIGHT BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY TO BE OUT OF THE ROAD, AND CALLED THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP TO ME. I HAD 3 LIGHTS COME ON MY DASH WITH THESE MESSAGES; HILLSTART ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, SERVICE ADVANCETRAC, AND STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING HAS TO BE REPLACED, WHICH THE REPAIR COSTS $2300 TO FIX. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN MOVING AT A FASTER SPEED THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH WORSE STORY, BECAUSE WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP YOU COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD DIRECTLY, AND THEY HAVE SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, BUT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND A LOT OF OTHERS HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLE. BUT YET THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS. *TR
STEERING BECOMES STUCK WHILE MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN. THIS HAPPENED ON A STOP LIGHT WHILE TURNING. IT ALSO HAS A SLIDING/GRINDING FEEL WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL WHILE IN IDLE. ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH FORD VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEEL SYSTEM. *TR
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while in for routine maintenance it was discovered that water from the radiator or water reservoir was leaking. Later a red-colored liquid from the vehicle was present in the driveway. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the water pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 50K MILES STARTED TO HAVE VERY STICKY STEERING AND IT WOULD MAKE SOME CLUNKING NOISES WHEN TURNING. THIS PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE WHILE MY PREGNANT WIFE USED THE SUV AS A DAILY DRIVE UNTIL ONE DAY SHE SAID SHE NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE FORD AND HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID HITTING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO HAROLD ZEIGLER FORD IN LOWELL, MI AND THEY SAID THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THAT MEANS REPLACING THE ENTIRE STEERING ASSEMBLY WHICH IS A $2,200+ REPAIR. THAT IS WAY TO SERIOUS OF A REPAIR TO HAPPEN SO OFTEN AND THIS EARLY. BASED ON THE MANY SIMILAR ISSUES I HAVE READ ABOUT REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT FORD ALREADY HAD A SIMILAR RECALL FOR EARLIER YEARS OF THE EXPLORER, THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. SOMEONE WILL GET HURT AND FORD IS JUST TRYING TO SAVE MONEY BY NOT ADDRESSING IT. THE WORST PART IS THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN IN 50K MORE MILES.
I STARTED HEARING A KNOCKING IN THE FRONT END AND THE STEERING WAS VERY LOOSE, WHEN I TURNED RIGHT AT FIRST AND ON OCCASION TO THE LEFT MECHANIC SAID IF I HAD GONE MUCH FURTHER IT WOULD HAVE BROKEN ALL THE WAY AND I WOULD HAVE LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE SUV. *TR
With less than 75k miles, the steering began to grind when turning. We had to get an entirely new rack and pinion unit replaced for over $2400. Thousands of 2016 Explorers have reported this problem but it is still not been deemed a recall. Recently, at 84K miles, the clutch on the AC compressor went out causing a $720 bill for a new compressor. We have also just found out the water pump is now bad and appears to be defective. In fact there was a class action lawsuit in 2020 regarding these defective pumps but this wonderful government we pay exorbitant taxes to, threw the case out on technicalities. Absolutely shameful.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.*DT*JB
2016 EXPLORER XLT WITH 70K MILES AND THE POWER STEERING STARTED TO FAIL REQUIRING THE STEERING RACK AND PINION TO BE REPLACED. SYMPTOM INCLUDED STICKING AND UNPREDICTABLE STEERING WHILE STOPPED AND AT ALL DRIVING SPEEDS AND CONDITIONS. *TR

AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON - WHEN LIGHT IS ON AIRBAGS DO NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. TOOK TO DEALER TOLD WIRING HARNESS UNDER BACK SEATS NEED REPLACED, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH MORE THAN JUST MY VEHICLE. THERE IS A FIX AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
AT ABOUT 60,000 THE STEERING STARTED CATCHING. AT ANY SPEED THIS HAPPENED. IT WOULD FEEL LIKE THE TIRES WERE IN A RUT, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULD BREAK FREE, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SWERVE OVER ABOUT A FOOT. IT HAS GONE ON TO A GRINDING NOISE. VERY UNNERVING TO DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEED! FORD TELLS ME THE STEERING RACK IS BAD, AND SINCE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY WILL NOT COVER REPAIRS. I'VE OWNED QUITE A FEW NON-FORD VEHICLES WITH OVER 150,000 MILES AND NEVER HAD A STEERING ISSUE WITH THEM. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN AUDIBLE SOUND IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT DROVE SLOWLY TO THE RESIDENCE. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED STEERING WHEEL WAS STUCK AND COULD NOT TURN AT ALL.*JB
I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL WHEN THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND THEN LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO JUST MAKE IT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL. I PULLED OVER PUT IT PARK AND THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE AND WAS ABLE DRIVE HOME. HOWEVER, NOW THE CAR HAS NO REVERSE. A TRANSMISSION REBUILD/REPLACEMENT NEEDED.
POWER LOCKS GET STUCK ON EITHER LOCK OR UNLOCKED NOT ALLOWING ME TO EITHER LOCK OR UNLOCK THE CAR DOOR ON DRIVER AND BACK PASSENGER DOOR. PLASTIC STRIPPING PANELS ON FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS ARE COMING OFF AND THE PANELS CONNECTED TO THE WINDSHIELD ON BOTH SIDES. POWER SEATS DO NOT HOLD THE MEMORY OF WHERE IT WAS LEFT. THE SEAT GOES ALL THE WAY UP TO THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN MEMORY BUTTONS ARE PRESSED OR IF THE KEYLESS CODE ON THE DOOR IS USED TO UNLOCKED THE CAR. KEYLESS ENTRY WILL UNLOCK WITHOUT TO CODE BEING TYPED IN CORRECTLY. USING THE FIRST THREE NUMBERS CAN UNLOCK THE DOOR. ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPEN WILL THE CAR IS STATIONARY.
THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING , JUST SHUTS OFF. EVEN WHILE GOING 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. IF YOUR LUCKY, YOU CAN COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY BEFORE YOU ARE HIT . FORD REFUSED TO FIX EVEN THOUGH UNDER WARRANTY. SO I HAD TO SELL IT SO I WOULDN'T BE KILLED. HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING.
Back in April 2020 (34,418 miles)I began to hear a clicking noise from the front end of the vehicle when turning the steering wheel. I took the vehicle to dealer where I purchased the vehicle (2016 Explorer) - they determined the noise to be coming from the "power steering gear assembly". I declined the repair as I wanted to investigate further. The noise would come and go but there was a consistent noticeable point when turning left that the wheel sort of would catch when trying to turn back to the right. I have lived with this expecting at some point their would be a recall as I read of this issue being quite prevalent for the 2016 Explorer. I now (8-10-2023) have approximately 75,000 miles on the vehicle and the problem is getting more pronounced. When sitting still and you turn the wheel even just slightly either way their is significant noise from the steering system and I would anticipate it is only going to get worse so I need to have this investigated and repaired. I would encourage the NHTSA to pressure Ford Motor Company to issue a recall for this issue as from everything I see online this is a common issue and is certainly a safety issue.
STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT FOR TURNING AND REVERSING IN TO MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS DRIVING ON MAJOR HIGHWAY AND ABLE TO FORTUNATELY GET OFF AND RETURN HOME. BUT WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR A FEW DAYS LATER TO TAKE IT TO AUTOSHOP, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT MOVE AT ALL AND SO HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED
I HAVE A 2016 FORD EXPLORER PLATINUM AND I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WITH AROUND 40-45,000 MILES BC THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD CAME ON. TURNS OUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE FIX BC ITS NOT A RECALL EVEN WITH IT BEING STILL UNDER WARRANTY. AS I HAVE LOOKED MORE AND MORE INTO THIS IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE ONE. BECAUSE ITS OUT NOW, ALL MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IF SOMETHING WAS TO HAPPEN I HAVE 3 KIDS (NIGHTMARE TO THINK IF SOMETHING DID). I HAVE SEEN 100'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ITS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE SUES FORD WITH THIS MANY COMPLAINTS ON JUST THIS ALONE. WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME ABOUT GETTING A FORD I TURN THEM AWAY AND SHOW THEM HOW MUCH I HAVE SPENT ON REPAIRS AND ETC. AND THEY ALL END UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED.!!
REAR AIRBAG SEATBELT FEATURE MALFUNCTIONS BY TRIGGERING AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASH BOARD. OBD DIAGNOSTIC PRODUCES NO ERROR CODES. WARNING LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT AND MOST COMMON AFTER REAR PASSENGERS USE SEAT BELTS.
EXHAUST IS GETTING INTO THE CAB OF VEHICLE WHEN UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION TO PASS VEHICLES AND WHEN THE WINDOW OR WINDOWS ARE OPEN IT IS EVEN WORSE.
I GOT INTO MY CAR ONE MORNING AND THE CAR MADE A TERRIBLE SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT. THE STEERING ALSO WANTS TO STICK WHEN GOING AROUND A TURN. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SAID THE RACK AND PINION WAS GOING BAD AND IS COMMON IN MY YEAR OF CAR AND MILEAGE. THEY SAID AT ANY POINT MY CAR STEERING COULD COMPLETELY BE LOST. HOW DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING WITH A TODDLER?!?!

The dealer was contacted, and the dealer stated the failure was a known issue, and that there was no recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. DRIVERS SEAT ROCKS LIKE IT IS LOOSE

THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON MAKING A SHARP TURN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, AN ABNORMAL CLANKING SOUND WOULD EMIT FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO BALISE FORD OF CAPE COD (90 HIGH SCHOOL RD EXT, HYANNIS, MA 02601) WHERE THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A BLOWN SHOCK. THE SECOND TIME, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE NEEDED A FULL STEERING RACK REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AFTER THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH SEVERAL ADDITIONAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO MOUNTAINEER FORD LOCATED AT (615 EISENHOWER DR, BECKLEY, WV 25801) AND AN UNKNOWN REPAIR WAS PERFORMED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
SOUNDED LIKE A POPPING OR CLUNK TYPE NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT FOR A WHILE THEN IT STARTED TO MAKE NOISE WHEN TURN THE WHEEL EITHER WAY. LOSING CONTROL DRIVING. READ ON THE NEWS, 1.2 MILLION EXPLORER RECALLED FOR THE STEERING ASSEMBLY RECALLED FOR SAME ISSUE BUT WHEN I CALL FORD THEY SAID THIS VIN WAS NOT PART OF RECALL. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
ADVANCETRAC AND STEERING FAULT WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. STEERING LOCKED UP AND BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SAFELY STEER OFF ROADWAY.
STEERING MAKES A POPPING SOUND WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THIS IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE STEERING SLIPPING WHILE DRIVING. THE EXPLORER HAS 53000 MILES ON IT. OUT OF POCKET AT A COST OF $2,200 TO $2,500 DOLLARS FOR A PREMATURE FAILURE OF STEERING SYSTEM COMPONENTS. THESE PREMATURE/DEFECTIVE STEERING PROBLEMS CAN LEAD TO DEATHS OR SERIOUS INJURIES WHILE DRIVING.
I BOUGHT MY CERTIFIED PREOWNED 2016 FORD EXPLORER ON OCTOBER 22 2019. I HAVE HAD IT FOR 4 MONTHS. YESTERDAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED WHEN SLIGHTLY VEERING TO THE RIGHT THAT THE WHEEL PULLS HARD TOWARDS THE RIGHT AND IT IT HARD TO PULL THE WHEEL BACK TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION. I TESTED THIS ON THE LEFT SIDE AND IT DOES THE SAME JUST NOT AS HARD TO PULL.
AFTER GETTING MY AIRBAG RECALL TAKEN CARE OF I NOTICED THE STEERING STARTED GETTING TIGHT MORE AND MORE AFTER 2 DAYS IT WAS REALLY TIGHT UNTIL IT RAINED AND IT GOT LOOSE AGAIN BUT THE STREET LINE SENSORS AND THE RUMBLE STOPPED WORKING. ONE DAY AFTER THE RAIN DRIED THE WHEEL TIGHTEN UP AGAIN WHERE I CAN BARELY TURN IT. I ASK FORD ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID I HAD TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC FOR $179 TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG. ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE EMISSIONS PASSING BECAUSE THE AIR FILTER SENSOR IS NOT WORKING. TRYING TO GET AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC . FORD IS A RIPOFF.
HELLO TODAY AFTER DRIVING MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER ONLY DOWN THE STREET TO THE STORE IT WAS FINE I PULLED BACK UP AT MY HOUSE AND IT WAS FINE I UNLOADED MY TODDLER AND TOOK HIM INSIDE AND THEN WENT BACK AND TURNED MY SUV BACK ON TO BACK IT INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND IT MADE A REALLY LOUD HUMMING SOUND LIKE A VACUUM OR A HIGH SPEED FAN IT DIDN'T SLOW IT DIDN'T STOP IT ONLY STAYED LOUD I THEN LEFT IT PARKED ON THE STREET AND IT CONTINUED TO MAKE THE SOUND ITS BEEN 2 HOURS AND ITS STILL GOING STRONG NO KEY IN THE IGNITION OR NOTHING AND ITS STILL NO MY HUSBAND IS PULLING FUSES OUT TRYING TO GET IT TO STOP.
I have had a malfunction with what may be the front right break or steering component. Occasional metal on metal/grinding noise made when making a hard right turn or reversing left. Vehicle had been taken in a few times after purchase (Honda dealership), sound was duplicated but no issue detected by mechanics. Vehicle has been taken to ford and no issue detected. No warning lamps have ever come on.
AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR WEEKS AT A TIME AND THEN COMES OFF. THIS TENDS TO HAPPEN WHEN IT RAINS.

ANOTHER 2016 EXPLORER WITH AN AIRBAG MALFUNCTION. OBDII CHECK IS NOT SHOWING ANY FAULTS. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO DEALER YET, BUT I AM ASSUMING IT'S THE SAME OR SIMILAR FAULT TO WHAT OTHERS ARE SEEING ON HERE AND ELSEWHERE.
WHEN SITTING IDLE AND STATIONARY, A STRONG ODOR OF ROTTEN EGGS/EXHAUST ENTER THE CABIN THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE A STRONG ODOR AFTER BEING TURNED OFF. THE ODOR WAS SO STRONG OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE THAT WE HAD TO PARK IT FAR AWAY FROM THE HOUSE BECAUSE THE SMELL WAS COMING INTO THE HOUSE THROUGH THE GARAGE. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEM TELLING US IT WAS FIXED, I TRUSTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE AND TOOK MY 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO THE GROCERY STORE. IMMEDIATELY AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT AND SITTING IN IDLE, THE ODOR WAS RELEASED INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR- NO DIFFERENT THAN PRIOR TO BEING "FIXED." WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD US WE HAD TO DRIVE THE SMELL OFF AND PUSH IT THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE SMELL CONTINUED WITHOUT RELIEF AND I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME (15 MINUTE DRIVE) WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN DURING AN OHIO WINTER OF 34 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. UPON ARRIVING HOME, EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN I HAD A HEADACHE AND FELT NAUSEOUS. I WOULD HATE TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP'S ADVICE. OUR VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US A SECOND TIME AND THE ISSUE WAS STILL UNRESOLVED. AT THIS MOMENT, OUR VEHICLE IS AT OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WITH WHAT SEEMS LIKE NO END IN SIGHT. FORD HAS PUT US BACK INTO A FAULTY AND DANGEROUS VEHICLE TWICE NOW AND WE HAVE LITTLE TRUST OR FAITH THAT OUR FORD EXPLORER WILL BE RETURNED TO US AS A SAFE FAMILY CAR. ALSO TO NOTE, WE DID HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED FOR RECALL RELATED TO CARBON MONOXIDE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECOND-ROW MIDDLE SEAT FAILED TO UNLATCH AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS CHILD WAS CONFINED IN THE SEAT WHILE STRAPPED INTO THE SEAT BELT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO VAN DRUNEN FORD (3233 183RD ST, HOMEWOOD, IL 60430) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND WAS PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,600.
THE STEERING MAKES POPPING AND GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED AT A TRUSTED GARAGE I USE, THEY SAID THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS SHOT. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 53165 MILES ON IT. THE MAJORITY IS HIGHWAY MILES.
USING A PEDAL COMMANDER PC18 BLUETOOTH "THROTTLE ENHANCER" IN AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH A VHF MOBILE TWO-WAY RADIO. THE RADIO TRANSMITS AT 50W AND IS INSTALLED BY A PROFESSIONAL EMERGENCY VEHICLE UPFITTER PER MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN TRANSMITTING IN THE 156MHZ RANGE THE PEDAL COMMAND CONSISTENTLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BEGIN ACCELERATING WHEN IN DRIVE, AND INCREASING THE RPM OF THE ENGINE IN PARK. THE ACCELERATION CONTINUES AS LONG AS THE USER IS TRANSMITTING ON THE TWO-WAY RADIO. AS SOON AS THE TRANSMISSING ENDS THE VEHICLE GOES BACK TO IDLE OR RPMS CONSISTENT WITH THE PEDAL POSITION. THESE SYMPTOMS GO AWAY AS SOON AS THE PC18 IS REMOVED. THIS ISSUE WAS ALSO EXPERIENCED BY OTHER USERS WITH PC18 AND RADIOS THAT TRANSMIT IN THE MID 150MHZ RANGE.
WHILE GOING TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I'M IN REVERSE AND MOVING AND GO TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT IS LOCKED AND I GET A "HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" NOW MINE YOU THIS CAR IS ONLY 4YRS OLD WITH 25K MILES ON IT. ACCORDING TO ALL THE OTHER COMPLAI TS I'VE READ I'VE GOTTEN OFF EASY IN THE FACT I WAS IN MY OWN DRIVEWAY AND NOT DRIVING ANYWAYS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR, WHICH IS THE MAIN VEHICLE THEY WOULD BE IN. HAD TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND TOLD ITS THE PINION IN THE STEERING COLUMN NOT COVERED UNDER MY 5YR, 60,000 MILES WARRANTY AND WILL COST $2,247 PKUS TAX TO FIX. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. 4 YEARS OLD BARELY DRIVEN AT 25K MILES TO HAVE THIS CRAZY EXPENSIVE FIX THAT I CANNOT AFFORD! WHERE IS THE RECALL ON THIS KNOWN PROBLEM? ARE WE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE? FOR A FEW MONTHS WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE FROM A RED LIGHT OR SITTING STILL THE SMELL OF ROTTEN EGGS WOULD COME INTO MY VEHICLE. WITH ME HAVING KIDS I FIGURED IT WAS JUST THEM PASSING GAS, HOWEVER REPEATEDLY IT STARTED HAPPENING & IF THE A/C OR HEATER WAS ON IT WAS WORSE. I TOOK IT TO WORLD FORD IN PENSACOLA ON TUESDAY 02/04/2020, THEY DID NOT GET TO IT UNTIL 02/05/2020 AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD A DIAGNOSIS & THE WAY MY VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED THE AERODYNAMICS WERE ALLOWING THE EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE CABIN. I AM ABSOLUTELY UPSET AT THIS BEING AS THOUGH NOT ONLY MYSELF, BUT MY KIDS, OTHER PASSENGERS, AND THEIR KIDS HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO CARBON MONOXIDE IN A CLOSED IN AREA. FORD MAKES IT SOUND ACCEPTABLE BY SAYING IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER A MANUFACTURER DEFAULT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED IMMEDIATELY, THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND MY FRIENDS.

THE CONTACT VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WHICH FAILED TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BOMMARITO FORD LOCATED AT (675 DUNN RD, HAZELWOOD, MO 63042, (314) 895-0600 WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,000.
ON FEBRUARY 4, 2020, MY WIFE'S 2016 FORD EXPLORER (VIN# [XXX]) HAD AN ODOMETER READING OF 29,265 MILES WHEN SHE BEGAN TO NOTICE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS AFTER THE STEERING SYSTEM HAD MALFUNCTIONED WHILE TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS, DRIVEWAYS AND PARKING LOTS. DURING ONE INCIDENT, THE STEERING SYSTEM TEMPORARILY LOCKED UP AND MAKE A DISTINCT CLUNKING SOUND; IT ALMOST CAUSED MY WIFE TO HIT ANOTHER CAR DURING A LEFT HAND TURN AT AN INTERSECTION. SHE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE 99% OF THE TIME TO TRANSPORT OUR GRANDCHILDREN WHILE THE REMAINING 1% HAS INVOLVED MY COMMUTE TO WORK. OUR REYNOLDS FORD OF NORMAN DEALERSHIP FAILED TO DUPLICATE THE STEERING MALFUNCTIONS WE EXPERIENCED. THEY ALSO MADE IT KNOWN THAT OUR EXTENDED FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER ANY REPAIRS RELATED TO THE STEERING SYSTEM. ON MARCH 6, 2020, ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION HTTPS://WWW.NHTSA.GOV/VEHICLE/2016/FORD/EXPLORER/SUV/FWD, THERE WERE SEVEN RECALLS, ONE INVESTIGATION AND 918 COMPLAINTS ON THE 2016 FORD EXPLORER. OF THOSE 918 COMPLAINTS, 189 WERE RELATED TO THE SAME SAFETY RELATED STEERING PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED BY OUR VEHICLE. MANY OF THOSE 189 COMPLAINTS ALSO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE OWNERS HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET AT A COST OF $2,200 TO $2,500 DOLLARS FOR A PREMATURE FAILURE OF STEERING SYSTEM COMPONENTS. FORD NEEDS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBLE AND OWN UP TO THEIR PREMATURE/DEFECTIVE STEERING PROBLEMS TO PREVENT DEATHS OR SERIOUS INJURIES. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR DEFECTIVE/PREMATURE STEERING COMPONENTS. ALMOST HIT A CAR THAT WAS COMING ONTO THE HIGHWAY ON A ON RAMP. I HAVE FOUND 5 OTHER REPORTS OF EXACTLY SAME THING. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 37K MILES ON IT, HAVE ONLY DROVE IT BARELY 3 MONTHS. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED OR BE HAPPENING TO VEHICLES. OTHER COMPLAINTS I FOUND VEHICLES WERE AT 40K MILES OR 41K MILES. TIMING OF ALL 6 INCIDENTS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. ALL 2016 FORD EXPLORERS ALL WITHIN LAST 6 MONTHS.
