TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FLASHED ON AND OFF. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REARVIEW CAMERA WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DUBLIN HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 6015 SCARLETT CT, DUBLIN, CA 94568, (925) 803-7700), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AND STARTED TO HEAR GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING. SHE THOUGHT IT WAS OUT OF POWER STEERING FLUID. SHE DID RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THERE IS NOT POWER STEERING THAT IT IS ELECTRONIC CONTROL. FORD KNOWING THERE IS ISSUES WITH EARLIER YEARS THAT THEY HAD RECALLS ON 2011-2013 MODEL YEARS. BEFORE IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT. DROVE IT TO OUR MECHANIC TO REPAIR.
I TOOK IT TO FORD FOR A RECALL ON A SUSPENSION ISSUE AND THEY FOUND THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDED REPLACED AS WELL AS IT WAS MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE. I DO RECALL A CLUNKING NOISE WAS MADE SPORADICALLY WHEN TURNING INTO PARKING SPACES PRIOR TO TAKING IT TO FORD. I FIND IT ODD THAT A VEHICLE THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD IS HAVING SUCH AN ISSUE.
WHILE STATIONARY, OR SITTING IN VEHICLE WHILE IDLING, CARBON MONOXIDE IS DETECTED IN THE CABIN AND I HAVE BEEN FALLING ASLEEP AND STAYING TIRED FOR REST OF THE DAY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON IN THE 2 MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD THE NEW SUV. I SUSPECTED AFTER I WAS TOLD BY A FRIEND THAT THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY SHERIFFS. I PLUGGED IN MY HOME DETECTOR TO CHECK IF THAT WERE THE CASE. I AM NO LONGER IDLING WITHOUT WINDOWS OPEN IF POSSIBLE DUE TO WEATHER.
I STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, I HEARD A STRANGE SOUND, AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I PRESS THE GAS GAS TO CROSS INTERSECTION AND CAR WOULD ONLY GO 3 MILES AN HOUR, I MANAGED TO TURN INTO SIDE STREET, AND TURNED CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED CAR AND I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION, WHEN I STOPPED AT ANOTHER RED LIGHT IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I THEN TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTATED TO FIND ALL WARNING LIGHTS OFF. I THEN DROVE TO AUTO NATION FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED WITH A THROTTLE PROBLEM. WHEN CHECKING THE INTERNET I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, IT COULD HAVE BEE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THIS HAPPENED ST AN INTERSECTION.
STEERING FAULT ALARM 3 TIMES OVER 2 WEEKS, DEALER SERVICE SEES ERROR CODE C200D, COULD NOT SAY WHATS WRONG, ADVISED TO REPLACE STEERING RACK. STEERING FAULT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY TWICE AND ONCE BACKING IN DRIVEWAY. MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS ONLINE, FORD SHOULD BE DOING A RECALL TO FIX. 67886 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. COST TO REPLACE STEERING RACK AROUND $2000.00.
MOVING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN WITH A SUDDEN SHUTTER AND THEN A LOUD BANG THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER WITH BLINDING SMOKE IN AND AROUND THE CAR. MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD FIRE LAPPING UP THE DRIVERS SIDE ROCKER PANEL FROM UNDER THE CAR. TRANSFER CASE EXPLODED WITH SUCH FORCE IT DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION. OCCURRED AT 41,000 MILES ON A THREE YEAR OLD VECHICLE.

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAGS COULD DEPLOY AT ANY TIME AND THE SEAT BELTS MAY NOT WORK. IN ADDITION, THE TOE LINK SUSPENSION ALSO FAILED AND THE SEAT BELT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MCCLARDY FORD (4400 LANDERS RD, NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR 72117, (501) 945-1200) WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT MAY HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (STRUCTURE); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, while driving, the A-pillar trim had detached from the vehicle. The contact stated that the detached trim piece had damaged other vehicles. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the trim pieces were replaced. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I WAS DRIVING BACK TO WORK FROM MY BREAK WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO PARK MY CAR THE POWER STEERING GOT LOCKED SUDDENLY. THANKS TO GOD I WAS NOT IN FULL MOTION OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN MESSED UP EVERY WAYS. THIS CAR IS JUST DRIVING ME CRAZY EVERYDAY I NOTICE SOME KIND A STUPID NOISE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NOT TOO LONG AGO. THE DEALER KNOWINGLY GAVE ME FAULTY CAR RIGHT NEXT DAY I TOOK IT BACK TO FIX THE CARBONMONOAXIDE PROBLEM AND NOW THE STEERING LOCKED ON ME.

THE CONTACT ALSO DETECTED A CARBON MONOXIDE ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE EXPLORER HAD 39,000 MILES ON IT AND THE RACK AND PINION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR HAD A 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, ASKED FOR AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY AND FOR THEM TO COVER SOME OR PART OF THIS REPAIR, BECAUSE IT IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR THESE PARTS TO FAIL AT SUCH A LOW MILAGE. THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY OUTSIDE OF THE 36,000 WARRENTY. BUT AFTER I GET IT FIXED I CAN BUY AND EXTENDED WARRENTY THROUGH THEM. THIS REPAIR WILL COST ME 2,400 DOLLARS .
THE KEY PAD ON THE DRIVER DOOR FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. THEN AN HOUR LATER, ALSO WHILE DRIVING, THE LIFT GATE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE LIFT GATE BY ANY MEANS. FORD CHARGED ME APPROXIMATELY $450 FOR THE DOOR PANEL. IT WAS $900 TO REPAIR BOTH. IT IS UNKNOWN WHAT CAUSED BOTH PROBLEMS.
VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING POPPING NOISES WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT ALSO HAPPENS WHILE BRAKING THE POPPING IS SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO FEEL IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS IN THE FLOOR BOARDS ON BOTH FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS EXHIBITED EXTREME VIBRATION ENOUGH TO MAKE THE OUTSIDE DRIVER REVIEW MIRROR SHAKE. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS ALSO BEEN STUCK IN THE LEFT TURNING POSITION TWICE WHILE TRYING TO STRAIGHTEN WHEELS BACK OUT.

STEERING FAULT WARNING CAME ON THREE TIMES. THE THIRD TIME, STEERING ALSO FROZE UP AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON; I TURNED OFF THE MOTOR AND THEN BACK ON AND THE STEERING WORKED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID AN SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE NEXT DAY, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THE MECHANIC READ THE CODE FOR THE WARNING AND IT IS C200D-49.
THE STEERING HAS BECOME VERY DIFFICULT AND A NOISE OF A 'GRATING' SOUND IS OCCURRING. THIS MORNING I HAD TROUBLE KEEPING IT STRAIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50K MILES - OWNED IT FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS
BROUGHT TRUCK IN FOR DIAGNOSIS, PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING. WE WERE TOLD THE STEERING COLUMN OR RACK IS FAILING AS WELL AS THE GEARBOX. THE TRUCK IS ONLY TWO AND HALF YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING IT ONLY HAS UNDER 108K MILES ON IT. THE REPAIR WOULD COST NEARLY $2,200. UNACCEPTABLE! I ALREADY HAVE A REBUILT TRANSMISSION.
JUNE 4TH 2019 THROTTLE BODY FAILED ON 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WITH V6 ECOBOOST ENGINE AT 59K MILE. VEHICLE HAS BUCKING AND HAD NO ACCELERATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER. SPOKE TO FORD CORPORATE THEY WOULD NOT COVER REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT SERVICE ADVISORS AT FORD HAVE TOLD ME.
MY WIFE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THE FORD EXPLORER WE PURCHASED IN 2016 - AND HAS BEEN NOTICING ISSUES WITH HER HEALTH. DIGGING INTO IT WE HAVE COME TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE THE CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUE WITHIN THE FORD EXPLORER. I PURCHASED A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR AND PLACED IT IN THE VEHICLE. ON SATURDAY, JUNE 1ST, 2019 WE DROVE ONE HOUR AWAY FROM OUR HOUSE - AND THE CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR WENT OFF MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE TRIP TO AN FROM. THE ONE DANGEROUS LEVEL WE WERE EXPERIENCING WAS 90PPM, WE INSTANTLY OPENED ALL THE WINDOWS. THE READING COINCIDED WITH US BOTH EXPERIENCING HEADACHES BEFORE THE DETECTOR WENT OFF. THE IRONY IS THAT BASED ON HE CONCERNS I HAVE READ ABOUT WITH THE FORD EXPLORER WE WERE DRIVING TO A DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE OF THE CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUES.

CAN OF VEHICLE HAS A PROPANE OR NATURAL GAS ODOR IN IT CAUSING NAUSEA AND HEADACHES
THE OEM ROOF RACKS WILL NOT STAY MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. FORD RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO TRUCKING THUNDER AND SEE IF THEY COULD HELP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TRUCKING THUNDER AND THEY SAID I SHOULD FOLLOW UP WITH CORPORATE AT FORD BECAUSE THIS IS SOMETHING FORD NEEDED TO CORRECT. I PURCHASED NEW RETAINER CLIPS (THIS IS WHAT HOLDS THE RACKS DOWN) AND REPLACED THEM BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM (PART #FB5Z-7851050-A). THE ROOF RACKS WILL NOT STAY MOUNTED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. LAST WEEK I SUPER GLUED THEM DOWN AND THIS HAS HELP SO FAR. THE RACKS WERE POPPING OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I MAKE IT A POINT TO INSPECT OTHER EXPLORER ROOF RACKS WHEN I SEE THEM AND I HAVE NOT FOUND ONE THAT WAS NOT HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME.
2016 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO INADVERTENT OPENING OR CLOSURE OF REAR CARGO DOOR. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE REAR CARGO DOOR INADVERTENTLY CLOSES IT STRIKES THE OCCUPANT ON THE HEAD OR BACK. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT ABOUT 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. THE PEDALS WERE NOT IN THE RIGHT LOCATIONS SO I DECIDED TO ADJUST THEM TO A HIGHER POSITION WITH THE BUTTON ON THE SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN I DID THE ADJUSTMENT, THE ENGINE WENT INTO A FULL THROTTLE MODE AND WOULD NOT LET UP. I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKES HARD AND VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY WENT FULL THROTTLE AGAIN AND THEN BACK DOWN AGAIN WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN HARD. THIS CYCLE CONTINUED EVEN THOUGH I SHUT OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND TRIED PUTTING THE SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL. I WAS FINAL ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO WORK NORMALLY. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY EVENT. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE OR HAVE MY WIFE DRIVE IT. I REPORTED IT TO FORD BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM AT THIS TIME.

BEING MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, WE HEADED TO FORD DEALERSHIP TO DROP OFF FOR SERVICE, ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE DASH WARNINGS STARTED FLASHING. SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC, NO HILL ASSIST, AND SERVICE STEERING ASSIST NOW. WE MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AFTER A SCARY RIDE THERE! 2016 WITH 65,000 MILES. $2500 IN REPAIRS. DEFINITELY SCARY, AND CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE HAD THE STEERING SEIZED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.
MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER CABIN HAS BEEN FILLING WITH CO I PURCHASED A CO DETECTOR A MONTH AGO AFTER FEELING SICK WHILE DRIVING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. TODAY THE CO DETECTOR READ 15 WITH NO AIR ON. YESTERDAY IT READ 18 WITH AIR CONDITIONING ON. I FEEL THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW ABOUT CO POISONING SYMPTOMS. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY GOING APPROX 50 MPH WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND AUTOMATICALLY PULLED ME TOWARDS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD TO FORCEFULLY PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD A FORD ENGINEER THAT THOUGHT THEY FIGURED IT OUT AFTER SHELLING SOMETHING AND REPAIRING IT. IT WORKED FOR A MONTH AND NOW IS BACK AT DEALER FOR A SECOND TIME. SEEMS TO BE WITH 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR TRANSMISSION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN AND MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BALISE TOYOTA OF WARWICK (LOCATED AT 1400 POST RD, WARWICK, RI 02888, (401) 352-5911) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INNER TIE ROD ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,653.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED BY THE VLA EMISSION UPDATE. AFTER THE UPDATE, THE VEHICLE TENDED TO OVERHEAT AND THE FUEL GAUGE DID NOT ACCURATELY DISPLAY THE CORRECT READING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO STAR DODGE A THIRD TIME WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EGR WAS THROWING COOLANT INTO THE TURBO. THE CONTACT REACHED OUT TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS PROIVDECASE NUMBER: 407224. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CASE WOULD BE CLOSED BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. PRIOR TO UPDATING THE VLA, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE ECO SYSTEM HOTLINE THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE AFFECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY CALLED DEALER AND SHE WAS ADVISED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED DUE TO THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER: CAS21646401-Y3N9W3. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,500.

VERY STRONG SULFUR SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN WHEN THE HEAT OR VENT IS TURNED ON WITH OUTSIDE AIR. SMELL DISAPPEARED WHEN IT WAS SWITCHED TO RECIRCULATE THE INSIDE AIR.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO WALLS FORD (2 MERRILL ST, SALISBURY, MA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK AND GEAR ASSEMBLY WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,500. *BF *JB
WHILE DRIVING RECEIVED A WARNING LIGHT STATING, "LOSS OF STEERING-SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK". IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WARNING THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT STEER. TOWED TO DEALER AND ADVISED THAT THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY AND REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION AND ELECTRONIC STEERING CONTROL. STEERING IMMEDIATELY LOCKED UP.
MY CAR HAS HAD THE EXHAUST ISSUE REPAIRED A FEW TIMES AND IT STILL HAS THE SMELL. I CAN'T DRIVE LONG DISTANCES WITHOUT A HEADACHE. FORD CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOSTLY IN SPORT MODE WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY BUT THE SMELL IS STRONG AND LASTS. I HAVE A TODDLER WHO IS SPEECH DELAYED AND I BELIEVE IT'S DUE TO THE CAR. SHE'S BEEN IN THIS CAR SINCE SHE WAS A BABY. HOW CAN I GET HELP? CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. WE'VE HAD IT A FEW YEARS NOW. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT BECAME A KNOWN ISSUE.

I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS OF DIZZINESS WHILE DRIVING OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER. BOTH TIMES I'VE BEEN TO THE DOCTOR. THIS LAST TIME TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND HAD COMPLETE WORK UP INCLUDING CAT SCAN. THEY CAN FIND NOTHING. IT WAS ONLY AFTER TODAY'S ER VISIT THAT MY HUSBAND REMEMBERED A NEW STORY ABOUT FORD EXPLORES AND DRIVERS GETTING DIZZY AND ACCIDENTS. WE STARTED GOOGLING THE FORD EXPLORER AND READ THAT THE NHTSA IS CURRENTLY STILL INVESTIGATING THIS POSSIBILITY OF CARBON MONOXIDE IN FORD EXPLORER CABINS. WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 14 MONTHS. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS ON 4/2519 THE SECOND ON 4/27/19. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN WE THOUGHT OF THIS ISSUE, IT WAS TOO FAR PAST THE INCIDENT TO HAVE MY BLOOD WORK CHECK FOR CARBON MONOXIDE

APRIL 23, 2019 FORD EXPLORER SPORT ECOBOOST ENGINE TIMING COVER OIL LEAK AT 56823 MILES. FORD SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE.
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON. IN TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THIS WAS TRACED BACK TO FORD'S ERROR CODE DTC B141B AND/OR B141C. THIS ERROR CODE HAS TO DO WITH FORD INSTALLING A DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE REAR SEAT INFLATABLE AIRBAGS AND COULD CAUSE THEM TO FAIL TO OPERATE DURING A COLLISION. THE DEALERSHIP (SHEEHY FORD, MIDLOTHIAN, VA) REFUSES TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. I ALSO CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TWICE (5/29/19 AND IN APRIL 2019) AND THEY ALSO REFUSE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE DESPITE IT BEING AN OBVIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THEIR SAFETY RESTRAINT WARRANTY. THE FACT THAT FORD IS REFUSING TO STAND BEHIND THE SAFETY OF THEIR VEHICLE HAS ME CONCERNED. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT TO MANEUVER OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY OR SIMPLY MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN, I WOULD HEAR A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING MECHANISM. THE NOISE DID NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME AND I COULD GO A MONTH OR SO WITHOUT HEARING IT AT ALL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED FORD TO DO A VISUAL INSPECTION OF MY STEERING MECHANISM TO MAKE SURE NOTHING APPEARED TO BE OBVIOUSLY IDENTIFIABLE. EXPLAINED TO FORD THAT THE POPPING NOISE COMES AND GOES. I WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE AND NOTHING WAS LOOSE. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER THE POPPING NOISE WAS REPLACED WITH STEERING RESISTANCE AND GRINDING AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL IN A PARKED POSITION AND WHILE DRIVING. FURTHERMORE, WHEN CHANGING LANES THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO HAVE TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WOULD HAVE TO BE PULLED BACK TO CENTER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, SO I RESEARCHED "2016 FORD EXPLORER STEERING COMPLAINTS" AND WAS SURPRISED TO FIND HUNDREDS OF STEERING COMPLAINTS JUST LIKE MINE. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS ROUGHLY 69,800 MILES, HOWEVER, THE COMPLAINTS I READ DEALT WITH VEHICLES BETWEEN 22,000 - 80,000 MILES. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF TODAY AT FORD TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ASSESSED. MY VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THIS MAY BE SOMETHING I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I WAS ABLE TO UNCOVER WITH A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH I'M SURE FORD IS AWARE OF THE STEERING MECHANISM DEFECTIVE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED. THERE IS NO WAY A MAJOR PART SUCH AS THE STEERING MECHANISM SHOULD BE FAILING ON ANY VEHICLE. I ENCOURAGE THE NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THE 2016 - 2018 FORD EXPLORER STEERING ASSEMBLY.
2016 EXPLORER LIMITED PURCHASED NEW, CURRENTLY HAS 32,000 MILES ON IT AND TIRES ARE SHREDDING AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, WELL BELOW THE RATING OF 50,000 MILES. HANKOOK TIRES
ONE MORNING, I BEGAN TO SMELL A SULFUR OR GAS-LIKE SMELL INSIDE THE CAR. I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT BUT IT PERSISTED FROM 5:00 A.M. -9:00 A.M. MY 7 YEAR OLD SON EVEN SMELLED IT WHEN ENTERING THE CAR. AFTER DROPPING HIM OFF AT SCHOOL I DROVE TO DEALERSHIP TO GET IT INSPECTED. DURING THAT DRIVE, WITH THE WINDOWS CRACKED, I BEGAN TO FEEL A DULL HEADACHE, DIZZINESS AND MUSCLE WEAKNESS. ONCE I DROPPED MY CAR OFF FOR INSPECTION AND WAS OUT OF THE CAR I DIDN'T FEEL ANY BETTER AND MY HEADACHE AND WEAKNESS GOT WORSE. MY WIFE TOOK ME TO THE ER OUT OF PRECAUTION AND AFTER BLOODWORK WAS TAKEN, I WAS CONFIRMED TO HAVE HAD CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. I AM A NON-SMOKER AND MY COHB LEVELS WERE TWICE THAT OF A NON-SMOKER : 3.8% IT WAS RAINING OUT SO I COULD NOT UNROLLI WINDOWS AS MUCH AS I WANTED TO. I WAS NOT DRIVING WITH THE A/C ON, WAS NOT SITTING IDLE. MINIMUM SPEED WAS 5-10 MPH AND MAX SPEED WAS 70 MPH FORD IDENTIFIED THE SMELL AS A FAILING PTU BUT CLAIMED THERE WAS NO CO PRESENT AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH A CO SENSOR INSIDE THE CAB. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 32 MONTHS WITH NO ISSUE BUT I CANNOT IGNORE THAT I DID IN FACT HAVE CARBON MONOXIDE EXPOSURE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE EXISTENCE OF THE STRONG SULFUR SMELL SHOWING UP. I AM NOT CONVINCED CARBON MONOXIDE GETTING INSIDE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
