EXHAUST SMELL ENTERING VEHICLE UPON BRISK ACCELERATION.
I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 3 MONTHS. EXHAUST IS LEAKING INTO THE CABIN OF VEHICLE. HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE TO BE "FIXED". AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE BACK FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE EXHAUST SMELL HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY WITH THE AC ON.
THE TRIM BETWEEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND THE WINDSHIELD FLEW OFF OF THE THE CAR. I ESTIMATE THAT MY SPEED WAS 65 MPH. THERE ARE 51,000 MILES ON THE CAR. NOT ONLY DOES THIS COST ABOUT $300 EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS, IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS OR PEDESTRIANS NEAR THE ROAD. IT VIRTUALLY BECOMES SPEAR WHEN IT BECOMES DETACHED. I PASS OTHER EXPLORERS OFTEN THAT ARE MISSING THE SAME PIECE OF TRIM AND HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE.
WHILE ACCELERATING A WEIRD SMELL FILLS THE CABIN OF MY EXPLORER. OTHER PEOPLE SMELL IT AS WELL NOT JUST ME. SOMETIMES AFTER DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES I GET A HEADACHE OR I AM DIZZY.

THE PASSENGER (THE CONTACT'S WIFE) NOTICED THE ODOR. THE CONTACT SAW THE FAILURE ON THE NEWS AND CALLED THE DEALER (L&S TOYOTA, 248 AUTO PLAZA DR, BECKLEY, WV, 25801; 304-252-8548; EXT 231) WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE CONTACT FAXED OVER SIX PAGES OF INFORMATION FOR THE DEALER TO TRY AND REMEDY THE CARBON MONOXIDE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE YEAR AND MODEL WAS INCLUDED IN INVESTIGATION NHTSA NUMBER: EA17002 (STRUCTURE, ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.
EXHAUST SMELL IN VEHICLE: AUTOMOBILE CONTINUES TO HAVE EXHAUST SMELL IN CABIN OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. VERY EVIDENT UPON ACCELERATION. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE.
WE ARE EXPERIENCING AN ONGOING SMELL OF EXHAUST IN THE CABIN OF OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER. THE SMELL IS NOTICEABLE IN DIFFERENT CONDITIONS, BUT TWO CONDITIONS SEEM TO ALWAYS BE IN PLACE - WHEN ACCELERATING AND WHEN THE RECIRCULATE OPTION IS ON.
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY MY 2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT LOST ALL POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE SUBSEQUENTLY QUIT AND I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 26,000 MILES. NO WARNING/MALFUNCTION LIGHTS APPEARED. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO FORD DEALERSHIP.
EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO CABIN, CAUSING BURNING OF EYES AND NOSE, HEAD ACHES, AND NAUSEA.
POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE INFILTRATION. I WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING WAITING FOR MY WIFE WHILE SHE WAS SHOPPING. I SUDDENLY GOT A HEADACHE AND BECAME DIZZY. WENT HOME AND HEADACHE AND DIZZINESS WENT AWAY AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS.
WHEN I FILL UP THE TANK THE MILES VARIES EVERY TIME. ALSO, THERE IS A SMELL IN THE CAR WHEN I DRIVE. I HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOWS TO GET RID OF THE SMELL.
ON JULY 26 AT ABOUT 10:40 AM I WAS DRIVING MY STOCK (NO ADDED EQUIPMENT) 2016 FORD EXPLORER (PLATINUM EDITION). I HAD JUST MERGED FROM NORTHBOUND I-680 ONTO WESTBOUND I-580 (NORTHERN CALIFORNIA). I WAS MOVING AT A CONSTANT FREEWAY SPEED (ABOUT 60 MPH) FROM LANE #5 (RIGHTMOST LANE) TO LANE #1. A FEW SECONDS AFTER ENTERING LANE #1 THE POWER STEERING FAILED. A WARNING APPEARED ON THE VEHICLE WARNING INDICATOR THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED. A FEW MINUTES LATER I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE OFF THE FREEWAY AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. POWER STEERING RESUMED AFTER RE-STARTING THE VEHICLE.

EXHAUST IN CABIN LEASED NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT MARCH OF 2016. IMMEDIATELY SMELLED EXHAUST IN CABIN UPON ACCELERATION. TOOK BACK TO DEALER. TOLD IT WAS FIXED. IT WAS NOT. STILL SMELL EXHAUST. DAUGHTER FEELS SICK RIDING IN BACK SEAT. TOOK BACK TO DEALER. TOLD THEY NEED CAR A FEW DAYS. WAS GIVEN NO EXPLANATION. ASKED FOR LOANER CAR. WAS REFUSED. MANAGER OUT FOR 2 MORE DAYS SO WILL WAIT UNTIL HE IS IN TO SPEAK TO. WAS TREATED RUDELY.

ARSENAL FORD OF NEW IBERIA, LOUISIANA WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE EXHAUST WAS REPLACED IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND AN EXHAUST OPENING WAS SEALED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000.
CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK COMING THROUGH BACK VENTS. I HAVE LITERALLY FELT FUZZINESS, NAUSEOUS, INTERMITTENT SEVERE HEADACHES, DIFFICULTY CHANGING LANES FROM CONFUSION, AND LOOPY WHILE DRIVING. CALLED MY FREEWAY FORD, AND THEY VERIFIED THAT MY CAR DID IN FACT HAVE EXHAUST COMING THROUGH BACK VENT. THEY FIXED UNDER TSB - TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, NOT AN OFFICIAL RECALL. I ASSUMED THAT I HAD SOMETHING SEVERELY WRONG WITH MY HEALTH UNTIL THE NEWS STORIES CAME OUT ABOUT THE POLICE OFFICERS PASSING OUT, AND HAVING SOME OF THE SAME SYMPTOMS. BINGO, IT WAS MY CAR! FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR NOT PUTTING OUT AN OFFICIAL RECALL. THERE MOTTO IS TO GO FURTHER, BUT THEY ARE SIMPLY SITTING BACK WHILE THEY COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS. I HAVE WRITTEN TO THE PRESIDENT AND GROUP VP & CEO OF GENERAL COUNSEL AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY. MY LETTER WAS SENT CERTIFIED MAIL ON 7/26/17; RECEIVED 7/31/17; STILL NO RESPONSE. I AM ATTACHING LETTER.
MY STOCK (UNALTERED) 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WITH ECOBOOST ENGINE EMITS A ROTTEN EGG, SULFUR-LIKE ODOR INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN UPON FULL THROTTLE ACCELERATION. THIS CONDITION DOES NOT OCCUR DURING NORMAL (LESS THAN FULL THROTTLE ACCELERATION) DRIVING. THIS CONDITION OCCURS ONLY DURING FULL THROTTLE ACCELERATION AND IS REPLICABLE. THIS CONDITION HAS OCCURRED SINCE ORIGINAL PURCHASE IN 04/2016 AND CONTINUES TODAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, A SULFURIC, EGG-LIKE ODOR ENTERED THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOR WAS NOTICED OVER A DOZEN TIMES, ESPECIALLY DURING HEAVY ACCELERATION OR DRIVING UP AN INCLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ASTORG FORD IN PARKERSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA WHERE THE O2 SENSOR AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WERE DIAGNOSED, BUT NO ISSUES WERE FOUND WITH EITHER OF THEM. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN TSB THAT APPLIED TO THE VEHICLE THAT CAME OUT IN MAY OF 2017. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, THE INSIDE OF MY CAR STARTS TO SMELL LIKE SMOKE OR SOMETHING IS BURNING. I HAVE TO LOWER MY WINDOWS FOR ABOUT A MINUTE TO CLEAR THE AIR OUT. IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO OPEN ALL THE WINDOWS. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, CHECKED INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE BUT THERE WERE NO NOTICEABLE LEAKS. THE CONTACT WAITED FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES AND GOT INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND STARTED DRIVING BUT THE ODOR BECAME STRONGER ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ODOR WAS EMERGING FROM THE AIR VENTS. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING AND DROVE TO THE DEALER BRADLEY FORD OF LAKE HAVASU, ARIZONA. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR EVALUATION AND THEY HAD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE NUMBER: CAS-12708860 WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,500.
LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I SAW A NEWS REPORT THAT NHTSA WAS LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE AND IT COULD BE RELATED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WITH THE A/C ON AND WINDOWS UP WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET.
INCIDENT #1 7/11/2017 FORD MOTOR CAS #12918168 SERVICE TO REPAIR THE NAVIGATION UNIT PARKED @ MY HOME ON FRONT SLOPE DRIVE HOURS LATER I STARTED VEHICLE SIDE MIRRORS ON BOTH SIDES BEGAN OPENING & CLOSING UNCONTROLLABLY MY DRIVER SEAT BEGAN MOVING UNSTOPPABLY FORWARD TRIED THE SEAT CONTROL PANEL ON THE DRIVER DOOR & TRIED IGNITION OFF & ON COMPLETELY PINNED MY KNEES AGAINST THE DASH UPPER BODY AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL AT SOME POINT THE BACK OF THE SEAT FALL BACKWARDS ENOUGH TO ALLOW ME TO CRAWL OUT DEALERSHIP MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY BUT A MYSTERY HOW SEAT REVERTED TO FACTORY SETTINGS RETURNED W/ NO REPAIRS MADE DISABLED DOOR CONTROL SO THAT IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL A RESOLUTION WITH FORD MOTOR COULD BE MADE ON 7/13 DISCOVERED THE SEAT WAS NOT IN FACT DISABLED ON 7/14/2017 DEALERSHIP CAME OUT TO MY HOME DID ADJUSTMENTS TO SEAT & DECLARED IT SAFE TO DRIVE. INCIDENT #2 8/26/2017 FORD MOTOR CAS#13006930 I PARKED MY VEHICLE ON MY GRANDDAUGHTER'S BACK SLANTED/SLOPED DRIVEWAY. TURNED IGNITION OFF & MY CAR CAR JUMPED BACKWARDS (LIKENED TO A MANUEL TRANSMISSION JUMPING OUT OF GEAR). AFTER GETTING OUT OF MY CAR & BEFORE MY HAND TOUCHED THE DOOR HANDLE TO THE DRIVERSIDE BACK DOOR MY GREAT GRANDSON STARTED SCREAMING FOR ME I OPENED THE DOOR TO FIND HIM SMASHED BETWEEN THE BACK OF DRIVER SEAT & CHILD SEAT. DEALERSHIP CAME & INSPECTED THE SITUATION. MY INIBULIZER MEDICAL BAG FOUND TIGHTLY WEDGED ON THE FLOOR BOARD PREVENTED THE SEAT FROM MOVING AN ADDITIONAL 2-4" GM TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP LEAVING ME WITH A VEHICLE TO USE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED. ON 8/30/2017 FORD MOTOR REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED ME & DEEMED MY VEHICLE AS "OPERATING AS DESIGNED" SAID NO ERRORS WERE DISCOVERED UPON INSPECTION. STATED NO FURTHER ACTION TO BE DONE BY FORD MOTOR.
EXHAUST GASES ARE GETTING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. RECALL AND ADDITIONAL REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, BUT THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS.
DURING ACCELERATION, A STRONG ODOR FILLS THE CABIN. ACCORDING TO THE CARBON MONOXIDE MONITOR WE USED, IT REGISTERED AT 5-9 PPM AS THE ODOR CAME THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. THE AIR WILL RETURN TO 0 PPM AFTER DRIVING WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN FOR ~1 MINUTE.
SINCE WE HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WE HAVE SMELLED A ROTTEN EGG/BURNT HAIR SMELL FROM THE VEHICLE. IT IS AT ITS MOST POTENT POINT WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGHER RATES OF SPEED. IT KEEPS A FAIRLY CONSISTENT SMELL AT SPEEDS OF 65 MPH AND HIGHER AS WELL. THE SMELL ALWAYS SEEMS TO COME FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. IS IT ALSO COINCIDENTAL THAT THE CABIN AIR FILTER ALREADY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? THIS HAS MADE FOR DISORIENTING AND NAUSEATING TRIPS IN THE VEHICLE FOR ALL PASSENGERS. OUR CHILD HAS COMPLAINED AND HAS FELT ILL WHEN RIDING IN HIS CAR SEAT IN THE SECOND ROW. ON A RECENT 6500 MILE ROAD TRIP, I BECAME SEVERELY ILL AND HAD DIFFICULTY BREATHING WHILE RIDING IN THE TRUCK. I WAS NAUSEATED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTERWARDS AND HAD AN EXCRUCIATING HEADACHE. WE DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE LOCATION WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. WE THEN TOOK IT TO ANOTHER LOCATION IN CABOT, ARKANSAS AND AGAIN; NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. WE WERE TOLD THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. WHY WERE WE NOT WARNED OF THIS ISSUE? WE ARE PUTTING OUR HEALTH AND MY CHILD'S HEALTH ON THE LINE EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE TRUCK BUT DUE TO OUR FINANCES, WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE.
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2016 FORD EXPLORER THAT WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW AT A DEALERSHIP HERE IN AZ LAST YEAR IN JANUARY. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE, I STARTED NOTICING FUEL LEAKAGE FROM THE VEHICLE AND VEHICLE USING A LOT OF GAS EVERYDAY. I TOOK MY TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD EVERYTHING IS OK. AS TIME WENT ON, I NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I ACCELERATED ON THE GAS, THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD ONCE AGAIN NOTHING IS WRONG. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, THE BATTERY DIED. I HAVE THE TRUCK TOOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE BATTERY DIES AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AGAIN AND NOTICED A RECALL ON THE TRUCK. A WEEK LATER I'M DRIVING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL WHEN THE DASHBOARD GOES BLACK AND THEN LIGHTS UP AGAIN. ALL OF A SUDDEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN, THE DASHBOARD GOES BLACK AND THE SPEED STARTS DECELERATING. I HURRY UP AND GET TO THE SAFETY SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I CUT THE TRUCK COMPLETELY OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONCE AGAIN, I'M TOLD THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY THE TRUCK DASHBOARD STARTS GOING ON AND OFF. THEN THE TRUCK COMPLETELY DIES. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAITED FOR OVER 5 HOURS AT THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE THEY TOLD ME WHAT "MIGHT" BE THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THERE MIGHT BE AN ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE BETWEEN THE MONITOR, RADIO, ODOMETER, AND CLIMATE CONTROLS THAT IS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN. THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T HAVE PARTS TO FIX IT BUT CAN ORDER THEM AND IT MIGHT TAKE A FEW WEEKS TO GET THEM. AS OF NOW I HAVE NO AIR CONDITIONER AND MY RADIO ISN'T WORKING. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGERS ABOUT THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE EXCEPT WAIT FOR FORD TO FIX IT.
CONSISTENT ENGINE EXHAUST ODORS IN THE CABIN AFTER ACCELERATION.
WE EXPERIENCE A HORRIBLE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES WHENEVER WE FIRST TURN OUR VEHICLE ON. IT IS EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE AND CAN CLEARLY BE TRACED BACK TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AS THERE IS NO ODOR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS LARGE AMOUNTS OF CO OR CO2 CAN BE DEADLY ESPECIALLY IN ENCLOSED AREA. THE ODOR REMAINS EVEN WHILE DRIVING AND ACCELERATING.
SMELL OF ROTTEN EGGS UPON ACCELERATION
I AM GETTING CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF MY VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATING. IT IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS IN THE RECIRCULATE MODE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED 5/31/16 AND IT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS NO SOLUTION.
I BOUGHT A FORD EXPLORER 2016 FROM AUTOMAX IN KILLEEN, TX. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING THAT THERE IS ODER SMELL COMING OUT FROM THE AC VENT. WHEN I BRING MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE FOUND THE CARBON MONOXIDE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE FORD COMPANY AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DO NOTHING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL EXHAUST ODOR WITHIN THE CABIN, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED OR WHILE ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PLACED AN EXHAUST FLOW METER IN THE VEHICLE AND THE RATINGS FAILED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000.
TRAVELLING AT 70 MPH MY VEHICLE'S RPMS DROPPED TO 500 - 1000, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME UNRESPONSIVE, AND I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IN SPEAKING WITH THE MECHANICS AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WAS A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB). MY CAR WAS JUST OVER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY, AND ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION BULLETIN ISSUED, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THERE IS ALSO AN ACTIVE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS, NOT INCLUDING 2016. I SPOKE DIRECTLY WITH FORD VIA A PHONE CALL, WHO APOLOGIZED AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE EXPENSE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER. IN MY OPINION, FORD IS NOT BACKING THEIR PRODUCTS FOR WHAT IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
SMELL IN CABIN WHEN DRIVING EVEN AFTER 2 OF FORD'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS WERE PERFORMED. PROBLEM STILL NOT RESOLVED. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO, THAT IS THE ONLY FIX FORD CAN PROVIDE.
I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE REARVIEW CAMERA ON THE FORD SYNC SYSTEM WOUND UP SHOWING A FROZEN IMAGE. IT TOOK ME SEVERAL SECONDS TO REALIZE THAT THE IMAGE I WAS LOOKING AT WAS ACTUALLY AN OLD IMAGE! I WAS LUCKY I DID NOT RUN INTO SOMEONE SINCE I WAS ESSENTIALLY BACKING UP WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO SEE ANYTHING.
PURCHASED NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT IN JAN 2017. LAST WEEK AT 5400 MILES TIRE SENSOR INDICATED THAT FRONT PASSENGER TIRE LOST AIR TO 6LBS WHILE PARKED. TOOK TO DEALER WHO SAID PUNCTURE OCCURRED WHICH NEVER DID OCCUR. SMALL CRACK IN SIDEWALL LOOKS LIKE DEFECT ON SAME TIRE THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED BY HANKOOK BUT IN A SMALLER SIZE. TIRE IS A 20" HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2. TIRE APPEARS TO BE DESIGNED FOR SEDAN OR SPORTS CAR BUT WAS OEM TIRE ON FORD EXPLORER SPORT...COULD BE A PROBLEM? DEALER EVENTUALLY REPLACED TIRE WITH SAME WITHOUT ADMITTING IT WAS DEFECTIVE.
THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (WITH NO WARNING OR ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON) THE ENGINE WILL SUDDENLY STOP, A NOTICE TO "CHECK MANUAL" PLUS A WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE, FORCING YOU TO COAST OR STOP ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD/HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 14,000 MILES ON AND HAS HAD MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES REGULARLY.)
CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK. WHEN I ACCELERATE AS I GET INTO AN EXPRESSWAY RAMP, A STRONG ODOR COMES INTO THE CAR LIKE ROTTEN EGG. VERY CONCERNING, SPECIALLY SINCE I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER TO GET IT FIXED AND IS STILL AN ISSUE.
FORD EXPLORER CABIN HAS A BAD EXHAUST TYPE SMELL. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN DECEMBER 2016. SMELL WAS MORE EVIDENT IN MARCH TO JULY WHEN WE RAN THE AIR CONDITIONER MORE. WHEN WE ACCELERATED TO HIGHWAY SPEED THE SMELL WOULD FOLLOW A FEW SECONDS LATER. THIS WAS EXPERIENCED BY SEVERAL PEOPLE ON MANY OCCASIONS. THIS IS MY WIFE'S DAILY DRIVER. TOWARD THE END OF MAY 2017 SHE BEGAN COMPLAINING DAILY OF DIZZINESS AND HEADACHES. THE SMELL WAS STILL PRESENT AFTER ACCELERATING. WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER ON JUNE 13. THEY PERFORMED THE RECOMMENDED REPAIR PER THE FORD BULLETIN TSB 170044. WE TOOK THE CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON JUNE 22 AND STILL SMELLED THE BAD SMELL THAT EVENING. RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY (JUNE 23). THEY THEN REPLACED THE MAJORITY OF THE MUFFLER AND TAIL PIPE ASSEMBLY. CAR WAS PICKED UP ON JULY 7 AND DRIVEN THAT EVENING. SMELL WAS STILL NOTICEABLE IN THE CABIN. WENT TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM AND THEY RECOMMENDED WE TALK TO THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AT THE FIRST FORD DEALERSHIP AND GIVE THEM ONE MORE CHANCE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIRD TRIP TO THE SAME DEALER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY INSPECTED ALL OF THE PREVIOUS WORK AND TEST DROVE THE CAR AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS.THE SERVICE DIRECTOR ALSO TOLD US WE COULD NOT PROVE THERE WAS ANY EXHAUST FUMES OR CARBON MONOXIDE INSIDE THE CABIN. (I TOLD HIM HE COULD NOT PROVE THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY EXHAUST FUMES OR CO IN THE CABIN). CAR STILL HAS A BAD ODOR IN THE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEED WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. (THE SMELL MAY BE LESS BUT IS STILL NOTICEABLE). WE HAVE ORDERED A BATTERY OPERATED CONTINUOUSLY MONITORING CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR TO PUT IN THE CAR. WE HAVE NOT INSTALLED IT YET, BUT WE CAN LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE DO AND ANY RESULTS. WIFES DIZZINESS AND HEADACHES WENT AWAY WHILE THE EXPLORER WAS IN THE SHOP.
YES I AM HAVING HUGE COUGHING FITS AND LIGHTHEADEDNESS AND EXHAUST FUME SMELL ENTERING MY CABIN ON NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER I PURCHASED. I AM EXPERINCING HEADACHES AS WELL AFTER DRIVING LONG TRIPS. BOTH ON STREET NORMAL AND HIGHWAY TRAVEL
UPON HARD ACCELERATION I GET A STRONG EXHAUST FUME ODOR ENTERING THE CABIN OF THE EXPLORER. SO STRONG MY WHOLE FAMILY NOTICES IT. IT DOES IT EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN OR UP AND WITH OR WITHOUT THE AIR RECIRCULATION SETTING ON OR OFF. SOMEHOW EXHAUST FUMES ARE ENTERING THE CABIN CAUSING A FOUL ODOR.
STEERING/RACK: PROBLEM BEGAN WITH AN INTERMITTENT NOISE (CLUNK) IN THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHILE UNDER FULL WARRANTY. THEY FAILED TO DOCUMENT MY CONCERN. NOISE BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND TURNED INTO MORE OF A GRINDING SOUND WHILE STEERING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED OR MOVING SLOWLY. HAD PROBLEM LOOKED AT BY MECHANIC DOING OIL CHANGE WHO SENT ME BACK TO DEALERSHIP STATING I NEEDED A NEW RACK (STEERING PART). AT THIS POINT, MY VEHICLE HAD SURPASSED THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. DURING THIS TIME WHILE DEBATING WITH DEALERSHIP IF PART SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THEIR FAILURE TO DOCUMENT MY INITIAL VISIT, THE STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS HAS BECOME "DARTY" OR "JERKY" AND DOES FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND HAS UNDER 50,000 MILES. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND TO DATE BOTH FORD AND DEALERSHIP HAS FAILED TO TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE. COST QUOTED FOR REPAIR IS $2100. SERVICE DEPT AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS INCOMPETENT, FAILED TO ADMIT FAULT IN LACK OF DOCUMENTATION, AND FAILED TO BACK UP THE PRODUCT, ADDRESS SAFETY CONCERNS.
THERE IS A SMELL OF EXHAUST INSIDE THE CABIN OF OUR EXPLORER AT TIMES WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND WHEN OUR AIR CONDITIONING IS ON, RECYCLING THE AIR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS SMELL GIVES OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER HEADACHES, AND WE ARE CONCERNED THAT IT COULD CAUSE OTHER HEALTH ISSUES OVER TIME. LIVING IN ARIZONA, WE CANNOT JUST TURN OFF THE AC WHEN IT IS 110-117 DEGREES OUTSIDE. WE HAVE TAKEN IT INTO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE DONE THREE REPAIRS, INCLUDING REMOVING THE BACK BUMPER AND SEALING SOME GAPS, REPLACING THE CEILING AIR VENTS AND ADJUSTING THE SOFTWARE IN THE VEHICLE. NONE OF THESE HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE, HOWEVER, AND THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT THEY HAVE DONE ALL THE REPAIRS THAT THEY KNOW HOW TO DO, PER THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM FORD CORPORATE. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT WE CALL FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT AFTER TWO WEEKS OF WAITING FOR A "GOOD FAITH REVIEW," THE REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED US TODAY THAT WE DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A BUY-BACK, AND WE SHOULD JUST TAKE IT TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION ON THE REPAIRS, OR BUY A NEW VEHICLE AND TRADE OURS IN. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT DON'T WANT TO LOSE A LOT OF MONEY TRADING IT IN, AS THE VALUE HAS DEPRECIATED SEVERELY IN THE YEAR SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE.
WHILE IN MOTION AND ACCELERATING ABOVE 2500 RPM, EXHAUST FUMES FILL THE CABIN. WE TOOK IT INTO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TRIED TO FIX THE ISSUE USING A TECHNICAL BULLETIN FORD ISSUED. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS.
