NAR 03-25-2003 MR. THE T URN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE WIRING HARNESS INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN HAD PULLED APART DUE TO A SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS. *JB
THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE, WHICH ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.*JB. THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECT IN THE WIRING, WHICH CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL FIRE. *JB
BRAKE HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE OR MORE TIMES FOR A KNOCKING AND GRINDING NOISE. PLEASE FURNISH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. PH

CRUISE CONTOL DEACTIVATION SWITCH FAILED AND LEAKED FLUID
I OWN A FORD LIGHTNING PICK UP TRUCK THAT RECENTLY BLEW A SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE DIVER SIDE CYLINDER HEAD. THIS WAS CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT ENGAGEMENT OF THE SPARK PLUG IN THE CYLINDER HEAD, AN ENGINEERING OVERSIGHT THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
FORD TRUCK WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND THEN BURST INTO FLAMES UNDER HOOD
THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE DID NOT HOLD AIR BECAUSE THE WHEELWAS CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP WERE NOTIFIED. *NM THE FACTORY WHEEL HAD A CRACK APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE MOUNTING SURFACE NEAR THE RIM. *JB
OIL SENDING UNIT ON FORD F150, 5.4 LITER ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE. UNIT WILL SHOW NO OIL PRESSURE, WHEN INFACT THERE IS OIL PRESSURE. SEVERAL FORD DEALERS IN THE COLUMBUS, OH AREA STATE THEY ARE SEEING THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. TWO OTHER PEOPLE WHERE I WORK, ALSO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. ONE IS A EXPLORER, AND THE OTHER IS A EXPEDITION.
I OWN A 2000 FORD F-150 LIGHTNING. IT BLEW SEVERAL (3) SPARK PLUGS TWO MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING IT. THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 16,000 MILES AND WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE IGNITION COIL HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALER. *NLM
HEAD GASKET BLEW WHILE DRIVING CAUSING ANTIFREEZE TO LEAK RESULTING IN ENGINE OVERHEATING AND STALLING. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED HEAD GASKET AS BEING DEFECTIVE. PH
CLOCK AND RADIO 'READ OUT-NUMBER' JUST QUIT WORKING - FAIL TO LIGHT UP. MILEAGE READ OUT COMES ON AND OFF AS IT PLEASES, DOES NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY. THE RADIO BUTTONS ARE STARTING TO NOT COME ON WHEN YOU START THE CAR AND DO NOT STAY ON - 2005.*JB
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE IGNITION WOULD JUST LOCK UP FOR NO REASON AT ALL. PH
SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE MOTOR WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. RESULTED IN DRASTIC LOSS OF POWER AND EXTREMELY LOUD EXHAUST LEAK NOISE.
WAS GOING 40 MPH HIT BLACK ICE, SLID INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.. SLID OVER HIT A TREE AND BOUNCED BACK AND TRUCK FELL ON DRIVER SIDE. NEITHER OF BAGS DEPLOYED. THIS IS THE SECOND ACCIDENT WITH THIS VECHILE WHERE BAGS HAVE NOT DEPLOYED ON IMPACT. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN ACCIDENT NO OTHER CARS INVOLVED. HAVE SEKED LAWYER FOR THIS PROBLEM. I COULD HAVE EASILY DIED, BUT SEAT BELT SAVED ME.. I SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES INCLUDING BRUISED LEG, SPINE, STRAIN TO HAND, NECK AND BACK..
FACTORY INTERCOOLER IS LEAKING AT 41000 MILES DEALER SAID RECALL ENDED SEPT 2002 . BOUGHT TRUCK USED DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT RECALL NOW WILL HAVE TO PAY $1500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM FORD KNOWS ABOUT. *JB
VEHICLE'S MAIN COMPUTER IS FAILING AS A RESULT OF A LEAK, THAT CAUSES CORROSION. PH
CONSUMER STARTED VEHICLE, PUT IT IN REVERSE, WITH FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKES, VEHICLE RAVED UP AT HIGH RPM, AND BURNT RUBBER. CONSUMER HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. PH
OWNER OF A 2000 SVT F150 PICKUP. SVT RECALLED THIS TRUCK FOR INTERCOOLER FAILURES. THESE FAILURES CAUSES UNPREDICTABLE ENGINE FAILURE. I LEARNED ABOUT THIS 4 MONTHS LATE HOWEVER VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY WITH NO MODIFICATIONS. MANUFACTURER WROTE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED. ?????? *NLM
DOOR CRACK IN DRIVER SIDE DOOR, NEAR THE WINDOW, NEAR PLASTIC MOLDING.
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLS WHEN VEHICLE IS GOING DOWNWARD. ALSO STATED THE HE HIT A DEER AND AIR BAG DIDN'T DEPLOY UPON COLLISION. TS
I OWN A '00 FORD LIGHTNING AND IT RECENTLY LAUNCHED A PLUG OUT OF THE HEAD. I AM OUTSIDE OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY, SO I AM FORCED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET. THIS FAILURE IS DUE TO A FAULTY MECHANICAL DESIGN OF THE 5.4L ALUMINUM HEADS THAT FORD PUTS ON IT'S 5.4L V8 TRUCKS. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM ONLY ON LIGHTNINGS, IT IS INHERRENT TO ALL OF THE 5.4L HEADS. I AM A MEMBER OF SEVERAL MESSAGE BOARDS AND HAVE INCREASINGLY HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WITH LIGHTNINGS AS WELL AS REGULAR F150'S. THE DESIGN OF THE HEAD IS FATALLY FLAWED. IT IS AN ALUMINUM HEAD, SO IT EXPANDS/CONTRACTS WITH HEAT, NOT TO MENTION THE SPARK PLUGS ARE STEEL THAT SCREW INTO THESE HEADS. THE BIGGEST FLAW ABOUT THEM IS THAT THEY ONLY HAVE3-4 THREADS TO HOLD IN THE SPARK PLUG(WHICH HAS 8-9 THREADS). THE SPARK PLUGS BASICALLY WORK THEIR WAY LOOSE AND EJECT FROM THE HOLE, RIPPING OUT THE REMAINING 2-3 THREADS, THUS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE INOPERABLE AND RENDERING THE HEAD USELESS AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. TO THIS DAY FORD REFUSES TO OFFICIALLY ADMIT THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS, EVEN THOUGH I COULD GO ONLINE AND FIND 50 INSTANCES OF THIS ISSUE OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. I PERSONALLY KNOW OF 4 OTHERS WITHIN 30 MILES OF ME THAT HAVE SUFFERED THIS SAME ISSUE. FORD DOES KNOW THE ISSUE EXISTS, BUT REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY HAVE COME OUT WITH A REVISED HEAD THAT HAS THE MORE APPROPRIATE 8-9 THREADS. THEY CAME OUT WITH THIS IN LATE NOV '02. IT'S NICE THAT THE FUTURE 5.4L ENGINES WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER THIS DOES LITTLE FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE ALREADY SHOT OUT A SPARK PLUG OR WILL IN THE NEAR FUTURE BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY DESIGN. WE ARE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THIS VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE (AT LEAST INSIDE THE COMMUNITY) ABOUT THESE HEADS, BETTER KNOWN TO SOMEONE WHO COULD POSSIBLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. WE WOULD LIKE FORD TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND REPLACE THE FAULTY HEADS THAT HAVE SHOT OUT A PLUG AT THEIR EXPENSE UNDER WARRANTY.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR SHEET METAL HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK. THE DOOR WILL NO LONGER CLOSE PROPERLY. AFTER READING SEVERAL ARTICLE'S THIS SEEMS TO BE A FORD FACTORY DEFECT. AFTER TALKING TO FORD SERVICE THEY WILL NOT REPAIR. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT RUSTING! *JB
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HAS A CRACK IN THE METAL AND WE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND HE ADVISED ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO RECALL FORD HAS ENGINEERED A "DOOR REPAIR KIT" AND THEY ARE WILLING TO FIX THIS DEFECT FOR A COST OF $675.63. IF THIS IS NOT A DEFECT THEN JUST WHY WOULD FORD MAKE THIS DOOR REPAIR KIT? THIS IS A SEPARATION OF METAL AND THE CONCERN WE HAVE IS IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT WHAT WILL KEEP THIS DOOR FROM POSSIBLY CAUSING A DEATH. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TURNS A DEAF EAR. HOW DO WE GET THIS PROBLEM TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A DEFECT BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY? I KNOW IF YOU PUT THE QUESTION TO THE PUBLIC IN REGARDS TO HOW MANY FORD FULL SIZE TRUCKS HAVE THIS PROBLEM YOU WILL HAVE A MAJOR RESPONSE. DT
CONSUMER STATES WHILE HE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE AT 45PMH LOST THE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE, NEITHER AIR BAG DIDEN'T DEPLOY. PH
ANTI LOCKING BRAKES: WHEN IT IS RAINING OR WET CONDITIONS THE FIRST TIME I USE MY BRAKES, THE REAR BRAKES WILL LOCK UP AND THE REAR END WILL START TO BOUNCE. TRUCK WILL NOT STOP, WILL SLIDE INSTEAD. THE FOLLOWING DATE IS APPROXIMATE. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO ENNIS FORD, PLACE OF PURCHASE, I THOUGHT I NEEDED NEW BRAKES. I WAS TOLD MY BRAKES PADS WERE GOOD. THE PROBLEM WAS A DEFECT IN THE ANTI-LOCKING BRAKES SYSTEM AND THAT FORD WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND IT. I ASKED FOR A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD FORD WOULD NOT ALLOW THEN TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG. ENNIS FORD GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $500 - 600 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *LA

2000 FORD F150 DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WITH THE RADIO EQUIPMENT.*MR *NM
A STRESS CRACK DEVELOPED FROM THE WINDOW TO THE EDGE OF THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE CRACK, BUT THE CRACK RECURRED WITHIN 25,000 MILES. A TSB WAS ISSUED ON THIS ISSUE.*AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 9/2/02. I WAS NORTH BOUND ON HWY 52, A CAR IN THE SOUTH BOUND LANE OF HWY 52 LOST CONTROL AND SLID AND SPUN ACROSS THE GRASS MEDIAN AND HIT MY TRUCK IN THE LEFT FRONT CORNER TO CENTER LINE OF THE FRONT BUMPER. THE POINT OF IMPACT ON HIS CAR WAS LEFT REAR TIRE/WHEEL AND QUARTER PANEL AREA TO REAR BUMPER OF CAR (CAR WAS LEFT BROADSIDE TO ME). I WAS GOING ABOUT 45 MPH PRIOR TO THE CRASH, AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT. I DID HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TURNED OFF, BUT DUE TO THE SEVERETY OF THE COLLISION, I FEEL THE THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. IF I HAD NOT BEEN WEARING MY SEAT BELT, I WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN FORWARD INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND WINDSHIELD, WITH NO AIRBAG TO PROTECT ME FROM INJURY.*AK
SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN OUT OF HEAD. DEALER CLAIMS HEAD IS NOT REPAIRABLE, REQUIRES NEW HEAD. NO WARRANTY FROM FORD, THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM HOWEVER THE FORD SERVICE MANAGERS AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS CLAIM IT'S A VER COMMON PROBLEM.*AK
HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES IN 1 YEAR.*AK
SPARK PLUGS RUSTED/SEIZED INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSING IT TO HAVE TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER FOR THE (RUSTED/BROKEN) SPARK PLUG REMAINS TO BE REMOVED. POOR DESIGN ALLOWS STANDING WATER TO ACCUMULATE AROUND THE SPARK PLUGS CAUSING THE RUSTED CONDITION. WHEN I NOTIFIED FORD OF THIS PROBLEM, AND INCLUDED PHOTOS OF THE RUSTED AND BROKEN SPARK PLUGS, I WAS TOLD SIMPLY THAT THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND NO ADJUSTMENT, OR REIMBURSEMENT WOULD BE MADE FOR THE REPAIR. ADDITIONALLY, THE FACTORY INSTALLED SPARK PLUGS WERE NOT THE CORRECT ONES FOR THE ENGINE. THEY WERE EVEN TWO DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS. (I STILL HAVE THEM) FORD HAD NO COMMENT OR EXPLANATION FOR THIS AND HAS REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO TALK TO THEIR TECHNICAL EXPERTS/ENGINEERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WOULD NOT MOVE, THERE WAS NO WARNING. FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WAS GOING TO THE LEFT WHILE PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL WAS MAKING A HARD RIGHT. MECHANIC STATED THAT TIE ROD END NEEDED REPLACING. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

I WAS DRIVING THROUGH TOWN AND THE TRUCK SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS GOING 35MPH THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND I HAD TO TRY TO CONTROL THE TRUCK AND GET IF OFF THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP WASN'T OPEN SO I HAD TO KEEP TRYING TO START IT OVER AND OVER TO EVENTUALLY GET IT INTO THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT WHICH WAS ABOUT 45 YARDS AND IT TOOK 3 TIMES OF STARTING THE TRUCK, MOVING INTO TRAFFIC AND THE TRUCK DYING TO WHERE WE EVENTUALLY PUSHED IT THE REST OF THE WAY INTO THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT. NOW THE TRUCK WONT' START AT ALL AND WE ( TODAY ) HAD THE TRUCK TRAILERED TO FORD AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS THE ANTI-THEFT DEVISE.*AK
THE LUG NUTS MADE BY AMERICAN RACING FELL OFF VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION, CONSUMER NOTICED WHEN THERE WAS A CLINKING NOISE IN THE CAP THAT COVERS LUG NUTS, CONSUMER COULD HEAR LUG NUTS ROLLING ALL AROUND ON THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL. MECHANIC TIGHTENED NUTS. ON THE 20TH OF OCTOBER THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL FELL OFF. TOOK TO MECHANIC, FIX THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER FEELS THESE WHEELS ARE DEFECTED. PLEASE DESCRIBE FURTHER.TS
RIGHT FRONT TIE ROD END BROKE WHILE DRIVING 35 -40 MPH, CAUDING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. DEALER CONTACTED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
HAVE A FORD F150 LIGHTNING TRUCK. 2 WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT IT CYLINDER #2 BLEW THE SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE HEAD. ALL I DID WAS TURN THE ENGINE OVER AND IT BLEW. WHEN THE DEALER REPLACED THE HEAD AND PLUGS THEY FOUND 3 OF THE 7 REMAINING PLUGS LOOSE. IF I DIDN'T HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE THE PLUGS, IT WOULD OF HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE ALL THIS ON AN INVOICE. DEALER WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. BILL WAS $2300.00. *LA
REPEATED IGNITION COILS FAILED CREATING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS.ALSO BROUGHT IN ON SEVERAL TIMES TO BE FIXED TO BE TOLD DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL I WAS LEFT STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES.ON THE FIRST TIME OF TWO COILS GOING WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE HUBCAPS CAME OFFAND TIRES WENT LOOSE.
WHEN TRYING TO SLOW DOWN OR TO COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP VEHICLE WILL START TO REV UP WITHOUT CONSUMER APPLYING ACCELERATER PEDAL. ALSO, WHEN TRYING TO PUT VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL IT WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR UNTIL IT STOPS REVVING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK
THIS IS NOT A SERVICEABLEE PART AS THEY NO LONGER PUT A GREASE FITTING ON THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. ON THE REPLACEMENT PART THERE IS A GREASE FITTING. THIS SHOULD A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. HAD I BEEN GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, INSTEAD OF BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT 2MPH, THE POSSIBLE DAMAGE, AND DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT. CHECK ARROUND, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THESE BALL JOINTS HAVE A MAJOR DESIGN DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.*AK
