TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO DECELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT OUT OF GEAR. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH DOWN A SMALL HILL, THE FUEL TANK STRAPS FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO DISLODGE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS, THE FUEL TANK, AND THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
I REALIZE THIS IS NOT A NEW ISSUE, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE FIRST NOTIFICATION FROM FORD MOTOR CO. REGARDING THE 2011 RECALL FOR FAULTY GAS TANK STRAPS WAS RECEIVED THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 20TH 2014, ALTHOUGH I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR. AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE WITH BRONDES FORD IN MAUMEE, OHIO THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS HAVING NO ISSUES AT ALL, WAS LEFT WITH ~$900 IN DAMAGE. THE FAULTY STRAPS HAD CORRODED THROUGH TO THE GAS TANK, AND SO WHEN THEY WERE REMOVED, LEFT HOLES IN THE GAS TANK. IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, THIS CONSEQUENCE HAS BEEN RAMPANT AMONG THESE REPAIRS, YET NEITHER FORD NOR THEIR DEALERS' SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WILL COVER THE DAMAGE! SO A TRUCK THAT WAS IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION WAS RENDERED USELESS. HOW CAN FORD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STRAPS BUT NOT THE RESULTING DAMAGE THEY CAUSE? I GET THAT MY TRUCK IS OLD, BUT IF REPLACING THE STRAPS RUNS THE RISK OF CAUSING DAMAGE THE OWNER WILL BE LIABLE FOR, IT SHOULD BE CLEARLY OUTLINED! THE NOTION THAT ONLY THE FAULTY STRAPS ARE FORD'S LIABILITY IS NEGLIGENT. MY HOPE IS THIS ISSUE WILL BE READDRESSED WITH FORD AND THE OWNERS REIMBURSED FOR THE DAMAGES CAUSED BY FORD AND ITS AGENTS. CAR WAS PARKED, CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE DO TO RECALL 05S28, PUT OUT MYSELF. WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT RECALL BECAUSE I WAS SECOND OWNER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL STRAPS AND THE FUEL TANK WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED WITH A POSSIBILITY OF FRACTURING. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING CAUSING THE FUEL LEVEL TO DECREASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK AND THE FUEL STRAPS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DID NOT VERIFY IF THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, A POPPING NOISE CAME FROM THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRIVE ROUGHLY. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARK PLUG SEPARATED FROM THE ENGINE HEAD. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TRUCK WAS PARKED AND SECURED. APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. FIRE CONSUMED ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA AND CAB OF TRUCK. FIRE PROCEEDED TO CONSUME THE TRUCK IGNITING POLARIS 800 FOUR WHEELER THAT WAS LOCKED IN BED OF TRUCK. TRUCK WAS TOTAL LOSS ALL PERSONAL ITEMS WERE ALSO DESTROYED. TRUCK WAS LOCKED KEY WAS NOT IN IGNITION AT TIME OF FIRE. *TR
I REPAIRED A TIRE THAT HAD A NAIL WITHIN AN INCH OR LESS DISTANCE TO THE SIDEWALL. I LET MY SERVICE/SHOP MANAGER KNOW ABOUT THE SITUATION AND HE TOLD ME TO DO THE REPAIR ANYWAY, WHICH I DID. THE TIRE REPAIR FAILED AND THE TIRE ENDED UP GOING FLAT. ALL I KNOW IS THEY HAD ME BREAK IT DOWN FOR INSPECTION BUT THE PATCH DID SEEM TO BE ON THE SURFACE PROPERLY. THERE ARE NO POSTERS ON HOW TO DO THE TIRE REPAIR PROPERLY NOR ARE THERE ANY METHODS OF DOUBLE CHECKING THE REPAIR AFTER THE TIRE WAS COMPLETE. I DO WHAT US ASKED OF ME AND FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES OF THE SHOP BUT I FEEL THEY WERE INSUFFICIENT IN PROVIDING PROPER PROCEDURE IN TIRE REPAIR AND VERIFICATION PROCESSES. *TR
THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUDS ROT OUT BREAK OFF AND THE GASKETS START LEAKING. I KNOW THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 4.6 AND THE 5.4 TRITON ENGINE AS THERE ARE ABOUT 8 OF THEM IN MY WORK PARKING LOT THAT HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. I OWNED A 1999 E150 THAT DID THE SAME THING AND THE EXHAUST SMELLS IN THE CAB WERE SO BAD I HAD TO GET IT REPAIRED. COST AROUND 1800.00 TO DO THIS REPAIR. MY LOCAL EXHAUST SHOPS SAY THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND USUALLY HAPPENS BEFORE 100K MILES SO I SHOULD FEEL LUCKY I HAVE 138K. FORD SHOULD REALLY OWN UP TO THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT OR DIES FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE OVERNIGHT WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE FIRE MARSHAL REPORT STATED THAT FAULTY WIRING UNDER THE HOOD CAUSED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT OFFER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE STARTER SOLENOID IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN AN ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY IN REVERSE DESPITE BEING SECURED IN PARK. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN HE CRASHED INTO A POLE AND THEN A FENCE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS AND A BRUISED RIB. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A COLLISION CENTER BUT WAS NOT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
THE RADIATOR/CORE SUPPORT WAS RUSTED OUT AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT IF NOT REPLACED. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 73500 MILES AND HAS SPENT MOST OF THE TIME ENCLOSED IN THE GARAGE. THE TRUCK IS IN GREAT SHAPE. I BELIEVE THE SUPPORT EITHER WAS DEFECTIVE OR MADE OF POOR QUALITY STEEL, IN ANY EVENT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED OUT.
ON MARCH 30, 2014, AT APPROXIMATELY 3:00 P.M. (PST) MY 2000 FORD F-150 UNEXPECTEDLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS STATIONARY IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN SUDDENLY BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE COULD BE SEEN COMING OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL. THE FIRE ENGULFED THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MELTING ALL THE PLASTIC, WIRING AND THE AIR INTAKE AREA. THE FIRE MELTED EVERYTHING NEAR THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE CRUISE CONTROL HOUSING. *TR
I HAVE A COMPLAINT AS FORD WITH THERE SHIFTERS I HAVE ALSO SEEN IT ON SOME OLDER AND NEWER MODELS IS THE TWO BOLTS ON THE BRACKET ON THE END OF THE SHIFTER ROD ON THE STEERING COLUMN COME LOOSE AND OR MISSING BOLT AND THERE FOR HAVE SHIFTING PROBLEMS AS I DID ONE MORNING WITH MY 2000 F 150 WENT TO START THE TRUCK EARLY IN THE MORNING TRUCK WAS I THOUGHT WAS IN PARK ALL THE WAY AS I LEFT IT WENT INSIDE TO GET SOMETHING COME BACK OUT TRUCK WAS AC-CROSS THE STREET ESTIMATED 3100 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK WITH A SIMPLE MISSING BOLT ON THE SHIFTER CAUSED THIS ISSUE AND I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN I FIXED THE PROBLEM MY SELF BUT I SURE THINK IT SHOULD BE RECALLED SO NO ONE ELSE GETS HURT OR KILLED I HAVE PICS TO PROVE THE DAMAGE I CAN EMAIL THEM IF NEEDED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE REPAIRS FOR THE HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 131,930. UPDATED 12/20/13*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK UNDER THE FUEL TANK STRAPS.
FUEL TANK FELL OFF OF TRUCK WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO HIT THE GROUND AND FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF TANK. FIRE DEPT. HAD TO COME CLEAN UP MESS. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER FOR SERVICE. FOUND OUT AFTER THAT STRAPS WHERE RECALLED BY FORD. FORD REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE TANK, THE CLEAN UP, OR THE TOW. THEY TOLD ME I HAD BEEN NOTIFIED AND THEY WOULD ONLY PAY FOR THE STRAPS. I FIND IT FUNNY THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF MY INFO BEFORE I GAVE IT TO THEM. SO HOW DID THEY NOTIFY ME. *JB
BOTH PASSENGER BACK DOORS STOP OPENING. DRIVERS BACK DOOR THIS WEEK, PASSENGER BACK DOOR THE NEXT WEEK. COULD EVENTUALLY BECOME A DEATH TRAP IF PROBLEM EXIST INSIDE THE CAB (FIRE, COLLISION AND CAN'T GET OUT, MUST CRAWL ACROSS THE CENTER CONSOLE TO EXIT THE TRUCK, ETC.). EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE THE LATCHING MECHANISMS FOR BOTH DOORS. *TR

THE FIRE INITIATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE WARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 161,000.
TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE FUEL TANK STRAPS SNAPPED AND THE FUEL TANK DROPPED TO THE GROUND IN THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER, UNAWARE OF WHAT HAPPENED, HEARD A NOISE AS SHE WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT. THE NOISE CEASED AFTER STOPPING. THE DRIVER THEN MADE A LEFT TURN WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED AT WHICH TIME THE NOISE CONTINUED. THE DRIVER PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO THE NEXT AVAILABLE PARKING LOT AND UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, SMELLED GAS AND FOUND THE FORWARD PART OF THE FUEL TANK ON THE GROUND WITH GASOLINE LEAKING. NO RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED BY THE DRIVER OR THE SPOUSE OF THE DRIVER AT THEIR HOME ADDRESS IN SPITE OF BEING TOLD LATER, AFTER THE INCIDENT, THAT SEVERAL WERE SENT. *TR
5.4 TRITON V8. TODAY WHILE DRIVING, SPARK PLUG AND COIL BLEW OUT OF #7 CYLINDER HEAD. THIS ALSO OCCURRED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO ON CYLINDER #3. SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST WHICH STARTLED ME TAKING MY ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ROAD. GAS ALSO BLOWING OUT OF CYLINDER HOLE, AND LUCKILY NO FIRE STARTED. STRONG SMELL OF GAS WAS PRESENT IN CAB OF TRUCK. NAUSEATED FAMILY MEMBERS RIDING IN TRUCK. UPON INSPECTION FOUND PLUG AND COIL DAMAGED BY FUEL RAIL. ALSO FOUND SPARK PLUG THREADS STRIPPED OUT OF ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEAD. KNOWN TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD 5.4, AND IS ALSO AN ISSUE THAT IS KNOW TO BE IGNORED BY FORD. FORD ESTIMATES REPAIR BETWEEN 500.00 AND 3500.00 FOR A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT THEY BLAME ON A SPARK PLUG MAINTENANCE ISSUE. *TR
MY 2000 FORD F150, BLOWUP, IT EXPLODED TWICE. THE ENTIRE FRONT END IS GONE, THE EXTENDED CAB IS ALL BURNT. THE HOOD IS GONE TOTALLY. WE HADN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE MAY 19 OF 2013. SO IT HAD NOT BEEN RUNNING AT ALL. IT WAS AROUND 80-90, SO WHAT MADE IT BURN AND BLOWUP?? RECALLS, WHICH PART OR PARTS?? MY HOUSE ALSO GOT DAMAGE, THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE NEAR MY TRUCK. I THANK GOD WE WE'RE NOT DRIVING IT, WHICH WE HAD PLANNED TO USE IT THE NEXT DAY!! *TR
THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED IN A AUXILIARY BUILDING WITH AN APARTMENT FOR 10 DAY, SINCE MAY 9TH. THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE APARTMENT HEARD A LOAD BANG AROUND 3 AM AND OPEN THEIR FRONT DOOR TO SEEING A MASSIVE FIRE AROUND THE F150. THEY TRIED TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO THE FIRE TO NO SUCCESS. THEY WOKE MYSELF UP IN THE MAIN HOUSE ON THE PROPERTY AND WE CALLED 911 AND STARTED SPRAYING THE BUILDING WITH A HOUSE, AS THIS IS A VERY DRY AREA IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. WE OPEN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING USING A CROWBAR TO SEE A VERY SMOKY AND HOT FIRE AROUND THE F150. WE HEARD SEVERAL MORE LARGE BANGS AND WE ATTEMPTED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP. AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT, IT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR FOR THE BUILDING TO COOL DOWN. THE ENTIRE BUILDING HAS SMOKE DAMAGE AND THE F150 IS COMPLETELY BURNED OUT, ESPECIALLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE JEEP PARKED NEXT TO THE F150 FRONT END MELTED BUT DID NOT CATCH ON FIRE. IT APPEARS THAT THE ONLY ITEM EVER ON FIRE WAS THE F150, THE BATTERY COMPLETELY BURNED AWAY AND ITEMS NEXT TO IT ONLY SUFFERED HEAT AND SMOKE DAMAGE. I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS FIRE DID NOT KILL ANYONE OR BURN DOWN THE ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD. LET ME STATE AGAIN, THIS CAR WAS NOT MOVED FOR 10 DAYS. *TR

A MONTH AGO I WAS TRAVELING FROM OUR SHOP IN MY WORK TRUCK[AKA F-150].THE SPEED OUT OF THE CITY WAS 35 MPH ON THE MAIN RD.I EXPERIENCED A SEATBELT DISCONNECT,I RELATCHED IMMEDIATELY WHILE DRIVING.I TRAVELED A LITTLE FURTHER AND ENTERED THE FREEWAY SYSTEM.THE BELT CAME UNLATCHED AGAIN.I FURTHER INSPECTED THE LATCH LATER AFTER WORK,DISCOVERING THAT THE RELEASE BUTTON STAYS DOWN WHEN FASTENING THE BELT INTO IT.SO I TRIED LIGHTLY LUBRICATING THE LATCH,DROVE THE NEXT DAY AND BELT STILL RELEASED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN DRIVING.IF I NORMALLY PUSH THE LATCH INTO THE RECEIVER THE RELEASE STAYS DOWN A BIT AND THE BELT POPS LOOSE WHILE I'M DRIVING.AT VARIOUS TIMES THE LATCH WOULD STAY UP AND HOLD THE BELT AS INTENDED.MOST OF THE TIME THOUGH THAT IS NOT THE CASE AND IT FREQUENTLY RELEASES WHILE I'M DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS. *TR

DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AFTER A HARD BRAKING, THE TRUCK WAS NOT IN MOTION AT THE TIME OF DEPLOYMENT AT A STOP LIGHT. BOTH AIRBAGS CAUGHT ON FIRE. DRIVER WAS PINNED BY THE AIRBAG CAUSING FOOT TO PRESS ON ACCELERATOR. LOC AND BLUNT TRAUMA TO ABDOMINAL AREA, ABRASIONS/BURNS ON ABDOMEN AND CHEST. *TR
THE STRAPS ON THE FUEL TANK COMPLETELY BROKE OFF AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE AND THE FUEL TANK FELL DOWN; CAUSING IT TO DRAG ON THE ROAD LEAKING OUT GAS. *TR

I HAD AN APPOINTMENT AT DONLEY FORD IN ASHLAND, OHIO MON., 11-11-12 AT 6 PM., TO HAVE THE FUEL TANK STRAPS REPLACED ON MY F-150 PER THE RECALL. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN REMOVED THE STRAPS, THE TANK STARTED LEAKING. WHEN CONTACTING FORD, THEY DENY ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. MY TRUCK WAS PREVIOUSLY OWNED MY BROTHER AND HAS BEEN TAKEN WELL CARE OFF. THE TECHNICIAN EVEN COMMENTED ON ITS CONDITION. THE TANK IS IN PERFECT CONDITION EXCEPT SOME RUSTING WHERE THE STRAPS WERE. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I AM SURE THAT YOU HAVE HEARD THIS COMPLAINT BEFORE. I AM SIMPLY ADDING ONE MORE. NOT ONLY IS THERE A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRAPS TO BREAK, ALLOWING THE TANK TO FALL, THEY ALSO CORRODE THE TANK, CAUSING IT TO LEAK FUEL. *TR

WHEN TRYING TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE TRUCK MADE A LOUD POPPING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN I RAISED THE HOOD, I COULD SMELL UNBURNT FUEL. I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS COULD BE A BLOWN SPARK PLUG FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. I HAVE READ MANY FORUMS AND TALKED TO SEVERAL MECHANICS ABOUT THE SYMPTOMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED. ALL HAVE SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE AND OTHER FORD ENGINES. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO. AND THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS ENGINE. MY LOCAL DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE STOCK PLENTY OF IGNITION COILS ON HAND. THIS REPAIR IS ESTIMATED TO COST ME $400. FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS COST, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. *TR
AFTER DEALER COMPLETED SAFETY RECALL 11S21 FUEL TANK STRAPS, TANK BEGAN TO LEAK FUEL. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO FIX BROKEN FUEL TANK AFTER RECALL WORK. THERE RESPONSE TO ME WAS IF THE TANK FELL OFF THE TRUCK IT WOULD BE COVERED, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY F150'S HENCE THE REASON FOR THE SAFETY STRAP RECALL. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE OFFRAMP, WHEN I GOT TO THE END, I HAD NEARLY 100% BRAKE FAILURE. I MANAGED TO DODGE A SEMI BY PULLING ON THE SHOULDER AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED FROM FROM TO BACK. I LOOKED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND SEE A LOT OF THESE ISSUES, BUT SINCE THE GREAT MOUNDS OF NHTSA SEEM TO BELIEVE NEARLY TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE IS NOT AN ISSUE, I JUST REPLACE THE PART OF THE LINE THAT IS LEAKING. IT WILL VERY LIKELY FAIL AGAIN SOON, BUT I KNOW THAT IT THAT WAS A PROBLEM, THEN NHTSA WOULD DO ITS JOB AND PUSH A RECALL. JUST ANOTHER CASE OF NHTSA DECIDING WHICH CONSUMERS SHOULD BE PROTECTED UNDER THE LAW AND WHICH ONES SHOULD HAVE THEIR LIVES PUT AT RISK. I GOT A NOTE FROM [XXX] AT NHTSA CLAIMING THEY MIGHT CONDUCT A STUDY, BUT GIVEN THAT A 10 MONTH STUDY BY NHTSA WAS INSUFFICIENT TO DETERMINE THAT GASOLINE SPILLING OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY MAY POSE A CONSUMER RISK, I'M BETTING THIS WILL GO NO WHERE. IF THIS IS TRUE, THEN THERE IS NO REASON TO CALL THE HAZ MAT TEAM IN TO CLEAN IT UP, BECAUSE RAY LAHOOD HAS DETERMINED THAT THERE IS NO RISK OF FIRE AND THE CONTAMINATION OF GROUND WATER IS OF NO PUBLIC CONCERN? THE TREAD ACT STATES THAT IF A DEFECT IS HIDDEN TO MISLEAD NHTSA, THE COMPANY IS SUBJECT TO A $15,000,000 FINE. IF THERE IS A DEATH OR GRIEVOUS INJURY AS A RESULT, THE PENALTY INCLUDES 15 YEARS IN PRISON (A RI WOMAN SUSTAINED SUCH AN INJURY) WHY IS RAY LAHOOD, DAVID STRICKLAND AND LARRY HERSHMAN SO RECKLESS WITH HUMAN LIFE AS TO NOT ENFORCE THIS LAW? WHY CAN THEY DECIDE WHICH CONSUMERS SHOULD BE COVERED BY CONSUMER PROTECTIONS UNDER THE LAW AND WHICH ONES SHOULD SOONER DIE IN A BALL OF FLAME?
