VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR TWO HOURS AT HOME AFTER A LONG TRIP. NEIGHBORS NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK HAD CAUGHT FIRE AND NOTIFIED ME. LOCAL VFD WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE ... BUT NOT BEFORE TOTAL LOSS OF THE TRUCK. *TR
GOOD DAY, MY 2000 FORD F150 PICKUP TRUCK IS INVOLVED IN THE GAS TANK STRAPS RECALL. BECAUSE THE STRAPS BROKE IT CAUSED EXCESSIVE VIBRATION FROM THE TANK THAT ALSO DAMAGED THE TANK; NOW FORD HAS FIXED THE STRAPS BUT NOW THEY WANT $1600 TO FIX THE TANK WHICH BROKE BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE STRAPS ORIGINALLY. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE WITH SUCH A SEVERE RUST PROBLEM. I THINK THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE A FUEL TANK RECALL ALSO. THE FUEL LINE ALL GOT RUSTED AND BROKE ON ME; I HAD TO CHANGE OUT ALL THE LINES. NOW THE GAS TANK AND STRAPS ARE ALL RUSTED OUT. THANKS, *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS FRACTURED AND AS A RESULT, THE FUEL TANK WAS SITTING ON TOP OF THE SKIT PLATES. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING DUE TO THE CORROSION DAMAGE AROUND THE STRAPS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) DID NOT INCLUDE THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 164,621.
ON MY VEHICLE I CAN REMOVE THE KEY, WITH THE VEHICLE STILL RUNNING. I HAD ACTUALLY GOTTEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEYS THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED IT, AND IT WAS STILL RUNNING. I THEN CLIMBED BACK INSIDE ( KEYS STILL IN MY POCKET) PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, AND DROVE AROUND THE BLOCK. I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHEN I EXIT THAT THE BLACK RING AROUND THE KEY IS TURNED ALL THE WAY COUNTER CLOCKWISE WHEN I EXIT. I CAN ALSO REMOVE THE KEYS WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THEY ACTUALLY FELL OUT ONCE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FUEL TANK BEGAN LEAKING. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY COULD ONLY REPAIR THE FUEL TANK STRAPS AT NO COST ONLY ONCE UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,892.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
2000 FORD F150 PICKUP WAS PARKED ON THE STREET AT MY MOTHER IN LAW'S HOUSE. IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS WHEN WE HEARD THE HORN GOING OFF. WE LOOKED OUTSIDE AND THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE GREW SO QUICKLY AND HAD BURNED OUT THE WHOLE CAB BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT IT OUT. IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS, AND HAS PUT OUR FAMILY IN A HORRIBLE SITUATION. THE FIRE STARTED ON THE DRIVER SIDE UNDER THE HOOD. IT LOOKED TO BE ABOVE THE WHEEL AND NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. WHILE THE FIRE WAS BURNING, IT CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD TO EXPLODE, SHOOTING GLASS ALL OVER THE STREET. THE FIRE ALSO DAMAGED ANOTHER VEHICLE PARKED NEARBY. THE TRUCK IS A CHARRED SKELETON AND THE TIRES WERE EVEN MELTED TO THE CONCRETE! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LEFT. I AM GRATEFUL WE WERE NOT IN THE TRUCK OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, BUT THIS IS SO UPSETTING. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE, WHICH IS WHY WE WERE DRIVING A 13 YEAR OLD TRUCK TO BEGIN WITH. WE DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR ANOTHER CAR PAYMENT. NOW -WE ARE WITHOUT A VEHICLE. *TR
I JUST PURCHASED THIS TRUCK YESTERDAY 12/29/11 AND I DROVE IT HOME PARKED IT AND GOT IN THE VEHICLE THIS MORNING, STARTED IT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AT ME AND THEN STAYED ON MY WHOLE 1 HOUR DRIVE TO WORK. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN, AND AM AFRAID THAT THE AIRBAGS ARE GOING TO DEPLOY WHILE THEY ARE IN THE VEHICLE OR NOT DEPLOY IF WE ARE IN A COLLISION. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES LINES BLEWOUT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKES LINES ON THE VEHICLE WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED UP TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 89,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES. NO ONE WAS INJURED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THEY WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR ANY DEFECTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,500.
FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK STRAPS THAT MAY CORRODE AND CAUSE A POTENTIAL FUEL LEAK. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR THE RECALL AND SURE ENOUGH MY STRAPS ARE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE IS AT A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE STRAPS BECAUSE THE CORRODED STRAPS HAVE STARTED TO CORRODE THE TANK. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE TANK WILL BEGIN LEAKING IF THEY REPLACE THE STRAPS. THE DEALER CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE TANK. I ALSO CALLED FORD AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE TANK AND ALSO WILL NOT REPLACE THE STRAPS UNLESS I PURCHASE A TANK FROM THEM TO REPLACE. IF MY STRAPS BREAK I WILL LOSE MY TANK AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE OR ACCIDENT TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE RECALL DOES NOT CURRENTLY ADDRESS ADDITIONAL DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE DEFECTIVE STRAPS. THE DAMAGE TO MY TANK IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE DEFECTIVE STRAPS AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. I LEAVE IN NEW ENGLAND AND AM SURE THERE ARE MANY OTHER FORD TRUCKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL FOR A FAULTY STRAP THAT HOLDS THE GASOLINE TANK *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING FAULTY FUEL STRAPS THAT HELD THE GAS TANK IN PLACE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THE TANK ACTUALLY FELL OFF HIS VEHICLE ABOUT A YEAR AGO, IN WHICH HE PROMPTLY BOUGHT THE STRAPS AND RE-ATTACHED THE TANK TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED FORD WAS NOT ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT THE TANK HAS BEEN LEAKING SINCE THE INCIDENT AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TANK WITH THE STRAPS. THE ASSERTION IS THE TANK IS LEAKING DUE TO CORROSION. *JB
MY TRUCK WAS PARKED ON MY DRIVEWAY, AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN ABOUT 2WKS. I DIDN'T EVEN THINK THAT THE BATTERY HAD A CHARGE. MY [XXX] WIFE AND A SALESMAN AND I JUST HAPPENED TO BE STANDING A FEW FEET AWAY HAVING A CONVERSATION, WHEN WE SMELLED WIRES BURNING. I QUICKLY RAISED THE HOOD OF THE TRUCK TO SEE THE PLUG WIRES CONNECTED TO THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SMOKING. AT THAT TIME I OF COURSE DISCONNECTED IT. 2000 FORD F-150. CONSUMER STATES WHEEL RIMS STARTED TO RUST OUT IN ONE YEAR *TGW THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE BUMPER RUSTED OUT IN ONE YEAR, AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKES WERE INSPECTED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD NOT COME ON, THE PLASTIC ON THE OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR FELL OFF, THE DOME LIGHT IN THE CAB WOULDN'T COME ON, AND THE TAILGATE WOULDN'T CLOSE, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER WASHER, WIPERS AND HEATING SYSTEM DID NOT WORK. THE POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKED ALL THE TIME, THE GEAR SHIFTER WOULDN'T GO INTO PARK. THE FUEL STRAP FAILED THREE YEARS AGO AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO FALL TO THE GROUND. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 395,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 395,004.

THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST SINCE IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED THAT FLUID LEAKED INTO THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND CAUSED THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD PROCESS AN INVESTIGATION UPON THE GROUNDS THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.

VEHICLE TAKEN IN ON OCT 5, 2011 FOR SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 11S21. WHILE ON THE RACK MUCH RUSTING WAS NOTICED ON UNDERCARRIAGE AS WELL AS SPOTS RUSTING THROUGH PAINT AT SPECIFIC POINTS ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE ROCKER PANELS, BED AND THE RUNNING BOARDS. PICTURES AND SAMPLES WERE TAKEN AND AN EMAIL SENT TO THE COMPANY PRESIDENT. NO RESPONSE WAS EVER RECEIVED. AN INTERNET SEARCH HAS FOUND THAT THIS RUST PROBLEM IS PREVALENT IN THE F-150 OF THIS VINTAGE. THE RUST HAS NOT ONLY DIMINISHED THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE BUT THE ISSUES WITH THE ROCKER PANELS AND RUNNING BOARDS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO LEAD TO ACCIDENTS OCCURRING WITH A FAILURE AT OPERATING SPEEDS. *TR
ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 4, 2011 MY TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT AT MY WIFE'S PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. THE TRUCK WAS NOT RUNNING AND HAD NO MAJOR MECHANICAL ISSUES. THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND DAMAGED THE A MAJORITY OF THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, IT IS TOTALED. I BELIEVE MY FORD TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRING SYSTEM AND A LEAK IN THE BRAKE FLUID SYSTEM. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE WIRING AND MY TRUCK WAS NOT FIXED DUE TO ME BEING THE SECOND OWNER. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL UNTIL I SEARCHED THIS MORNING AFTER THE FIRE. *TR

THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER, DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF INSPECTIONS THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE ON OTHER TRUCKS. NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE RECALL DUE TO A SKID PLATE COVERING THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT STATED ONE OF THE STRAPS WERE BROKEN AND IF THE OTHER STRAP BRAKES THE FUEL TANK COULD DROP ON THE SKID PLATE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 218,000.
WAS GOING TO FORD DEALER FOR GAS TANK STRAP RECALL DUE TO STRAPS THAT HAVE POOR CORROSION PROTECTION. AS I WAS ENROUTE TO DEALER I APPLIED MY BRAKES DUE TO A CAR RUNNING A STOP SIGN AND MY BRAKES GAVE WAY AND I JUST MISSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I CHECKED MY BRAKE LINE WHERE THE LEAK WAS AND DUE TO VERY POOR RUST THE LINE BLOW OUT. I ASK THE DEALER WHEN PERFORMING THE RECALL REPAIR COULD HE FIX THE LINE AND WAS STATED A 600.00 CHARGE. WHILE AT THE DEALER I CALLED FORD VP OF CUSTOMER SERVICE FRED TONEY WHO THEN SENT ME TO MR. FEDDERS. I TALKED TO A PERSON FROM HIS OFFICE AND TOLD THEM THAT FORD HAS A BIG PROBLEM ON BRAKE LINES RUSTING AND BECAUSE OF THAT I JUST MISSED HAVING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I ASK FORD TO FIX THE LININGS AT NO CHARGE AND TAKE THE LINE FOR OBSERVATION. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE TRUCK IS 10 YEARS OLD AND HAS 200,000MILES ON IT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. I STATED THAT FORD HAS NO PROBLEM REPAIRING THE GAS STRAPS OF A 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK. ANYWAY HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND REPAIRED. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT LINES AND INTERMEDIATE BRAKE LINES DUE TO POOR CORROSION. I WAS TOLD MY PASSENGER SIDE LINE AND BOTH REAR LINES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE, NO RUST AND COATED. I TOLD FORD ABOUT THIS AND SAID I WANT A FORD REP TO INSPECT MY COATED BRAKE LINES. AND MY DEFECTED LINE WHICH I KEPT FOR PROOF. I ASK FORD WHY SOME LINE WERE COATED AND SOME WERE NOT. I WAS TOLD THAT FORD DOES NOT COAT THE LINES. WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE AND COULD RESULT IN MANY DEATHS. IF THE OTHER LINES WERE COATED I WOULD HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM. FORD JUST WROTE THIS WHOLE THING OFF. I EXPECT NHTSA TO GET BACK TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I EXPECT MY TRUCK TO BE INSPECTED AND THE LINE THAT I HAVE KEPT TO BE INSPECTED. I MAY BE POSSIBLE THAT IF YOUR VEHICLE IS OPERATED IN A HIGH CORROSION AREAS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, ONE OR BOTH FUEL TANK STRAPS COULD POTENTIALLY FRACTURE. ON FRIDAY, JULY 29, 2011 I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING DOWN BELOW MY 2000 MODEL YEAR FORD F150 PICKUP TRUCK. UPON CLOSER INVESTIGATION I DISCOVERED THAT THE DANGLING OBJECT WAS THE REMAINS OF THE FRONT FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAP WHICH HAD FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THE FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK WAS DROOPING DOWN FOUR TO SIX INCHES FROM ITS NORMAL POSITION AND THE TANK WAS BEING HELD ONLY BY THE REAR STRAP. EXAMINATION OF THE REAR STRAP REVEALED THAT IT WAS ALSO SEVERELY RUSTED. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I PURCHASED NEW FRONT AND REAR FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAPS FROM MY LOCAL FORD DEALER'S PARTS DEPARTMENT AND INSTALLED THEM MYSELF. AS A RETIRED ENGINEER, I WAS DISAPPOINTED BY HOW FLIMSY THESE STRAPS ARE AND HOW THEIR CORROSION RESISTANCE IS OBVIOUSLY INADEQUATE TO PREVENT FAILURE. THAT EVENING, SATURDAY, JULY 31, 2011, THERE WAS A REPORT ON A LOCAL TELEVISION STATION OF A HAZMAT TEAM RESPONSE TO AN INCIDENT NEAR GOOD HOPE ROAD AND US HIGHWAY 45 IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN IN WHICH THE FUEL TANK OF A FORD F150 PICKUP HAD FALLEN TO THE GROUND DUE TO FAILURE OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. THAT LED ME TO THE DISCOVERY THAT NHTSA HAS BEEN INVESTIGATING CORROSION FAILURES OF FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAPS ON F150S. I BELIEVE THE EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT A VEHICLE SAFETY DEFECT IS PRESENT IN THE DESIGN OF THESE STRAPS, IN THAT THE DESIGN IS INSUFFICIENT TO PREVENT OR WITHSTAND CORROSION WHICH COULD REASONABLY BE EXPECTED TO OCCUR DURING THE NORMALLY EXPECTED LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. I STRONGLY URGE THAT A MANDATORY RECALL BE ISSUED AGAINST FORD F150 VEHICLES AND ANY OTHERS USING THESE OR SIMILARLY INADEQUATE FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAPS. *TR

ON JULY 19, 2011 THE FUEL TANK DROPPED OUT FROM UNDERNEATH MY 2000 FORD F 150 WHILE GOING OVER THE BEACON NEWBURGH BRIDGE IN NY. GAS LEAKED ALL OVER AND HAD THE NYS POLICE AS WELL AS THE BEACON FIRE DEPT. INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE NYDEC. NO FIRE BUT FUEL LEAKED OUT OF TANK. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GARAGE FOR REPAIR AT THE COST OF OVER $1100.00 NOT INCLUDING THE $190.00 TOWING FEE. I AM LUCKY THAT THIS TANK DID NOT BLOW BEFORE I COULD MAKE IT TO WERE I COULD PULL OVER SAFELY. THERE WAS NO BREAK DOWN LANE ON THE BRIDGE. *KB
