2000 FORD F150: DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE WHEN HITTING A BUMP GOING OVER A BRIDGE. WE PULLED OFF AT THE NEXT GAS STATION EXIT AND FOUND THE FUEL TANK HANGING ON BY JUST THE FUEL FILLER NECK. BOTH STRAPS HAD BROKEN COMPLETELY THROUGH. I WENT TO A PARTS STORE AND PURCHASED SOME CARGO RATCHET STRAPS TO CREATE A TEMPORARY REPAIR TO GET TO OUR DESTINATION. I CONTACTED A FORD DEALER IN THE TOWN WE TRAVELED TO ABOUT A REPAIR OR RECALL AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WASN'T A RECALL. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. PARKED CAR AFTER HAVING DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 45MILES. SPONTANEOUS ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR LATER IN PARKED, LOCKED VEHICLE. THE GAS TANK ON MY 2000 FORD F-150 JUST FELL OFF THIS AFTERNOON. THE GAS TANK STRAPS WERE VERY RUSTY. IT WAS TOWED TO BOB BOYD FORD IN LANCASTER, OHIO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE FUEL TANK DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. BOTH FUEL TANK STRAPS FRACTURED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION AND CAUSED THE FAILURE BUT NO FUEL WAS SPILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 199, 000.
WORKING ON FRONT BRAKES EARLY IN DAY FINISHED JOB,FIRE BROKE OUT UNEXPECTEDLY AT 4:30 AM NEXT MORNING IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF VEHICLE DESTROYING TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE HOURS WHEN IT ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FIRE STARTED NEAR THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE AND PARKED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 127,000.
MY WIFE WENT TO CHURCH ON 06/11/2011,WHEN SHE ENTERED THE CHURCH THE FUEL TANK ON OUR 2000 F-150 FORD FELL TO THE GROUND WITH A FULL TANK OF FUEL. THERE WERE MANY PEOPLE THERE THAT SAW WHAT HAPPENED NEED HELP. UPDATED 09/14/11 *BF THE STRAPS WERE RUSTED IN THE CENTER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL TANK, UNDERNEATH THE RUBBER OR PLASTIC COVERS. BOTH STRAPS BROKE INTO, DROPPING THE FUEL TANK TO THE GROUND. THE CONSUMER HAD A FULL TANK OF GAS, BUT NO FUEL SPILLED. THE NEW STRAPS WERE $30.00 AND THE LABOR WAS $45.00. HELLO I OWN A 2000 FORD F150 AND NOTICED A CORRODED STRAP HANGING FROM MY GAS TANK. TODAY (6-14) I SMELLED GAS AND AM TAKING IT IN TO THE SHOP. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE FUEL TANK DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT ONE OF THE STRAPS WHICH HELD THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE FUEL TANK RUPTURED AND WAS LEAKING FUEL WHILE IT WAS PARKED AT THE REPAIR SHOP. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED TO CLEAN UP THE SPILL. WHILE DRIVING HOME THE STRAPS HOLDING UP MY GAS TANK BROKE AND THE TANK HIT THE GROUND. TANK RUPTURED AND LEAKED, FORTUNATELY NO FIRE OCCURRED. STRAPS APPEARED RUSTED BEYOND NORMAL WEAR LIMITS. STRAPS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. TANK AND ALL LINES TO IT WERE REPLACED BY DEALER, AT A COST TO ME OF $1,238.32 WOW. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT NOTICED THERE WAS A SMALL PUDDLE OF FUEL ON THE GROUND AND A STRONG FUEL SMELL. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE FUEL STRAPS WERE CORRODED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT HAD SPILLED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FUEL WAS MORE LIKELY TO LEAK WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL. I FILLED MY GAS TANK UP AND THE NEXT DAY MY GAS TANK FELL ON MY FORD F150. I LOOKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND ON THE STREET AND FOUND ONE OF THE BRACKETS RUSTED ON THE STREET. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND HEARD THE TANK DROP OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS INJURIES. *TR

2000 FORD F-150, UNIT 1 STATED THAT HE WAS SOUTHBOUND ON THE EXIT RAMP OF IR 80 OHIO TURNPIKE TO GATE I80 WHEN ITS FRONT AXLE/BALL JOINT BROKE. GAS TANK FELL FROM TRUCK WHILE DRIVING APPX. 35 MPH. FUEL SPILLED ONTO THE ROAD AND WHEN FLAMES WERE SEEN IN REAR VIEW MIRROR MY SON JUMP OUT AND A YOUNG MAN ON THE SIDEWALK RAN OUT ONTO THE ROAD AND STOMPED THE FIRE OUT BEFORE IT COULD TRAIL UP TO THE TRUCK ITSELF. THE TANK STRAPS RUSTED COMPLETED THROUGH. NO LONGER SUPPORTING THE TANK. POLICE AND FIRE TRUCK ARRIVED BUT NO REPORT WAS WRITTEN TO MY KNOWLEDGE BY THE WOOSTER CITY OHIO RESPONDING UNITS. BACK STRAP OF GASOLINE TANK ON OUR FORD 150 BROKE AND TANK GOT DISCONNECTED FROM FILLER HOSE. UPDATED 08/08/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REFUELED THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HEARD THE SOUND OF LIQUID SPILLING. UPON LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE, HE SAW THE REAR STRAP HAD BROKEN AND THE TANK WAS HANGING DOWN. CONSEQUENTLY, THE FUEL FILTER PIPE WAS DISCONNECTED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE REAR STRAP HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THE FRONT STRAP WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THE SAME THING. ALSO, THE TANK WAS RUSTED SO THAT WHEN THE FUEL TANK DROPPED, THE FILLER NECK TORE OUT OF THE TANK CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL ON THE GROUND WHEN REFUELING. THE TANK ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HER THAT BOTH STRAPS AND THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TEMPORARILY REPAIRED BY ADDING TWO STRAPS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 170,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN SMOKE WAS EMITTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT AND THE DRIVER EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THEN NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID NOT REPORT TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE IN THE MASTER CYLINDER THAT CAUSED THE FIRE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT AN INSPECTOR WOULD INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED OR WOULD BE DEEMED AS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD F150 WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS CAUGHT UNDER THE TRUCK. SLOWLY PULLED OVER AND FOUND THE GAS TANK WAS ON THE GROUND, HELD UP ON ONE END BY A HOSE. GOOD THING I WAS NOT GOING FAST OR ON A BUMPY ROAD. IF THE TANK HAD HIT A BUMP IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHES AND POSSIBLY EXPLODED. HAD ABOUT A HALF TANK OF GAS. REPAIRS ARE ESTIMATED AT $270 SO FAR. *TR

THE FUEL TANK WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED BUT THERE WAS NOT A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE BOTH FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE REPLACED AND THE FUEL TANK WAS REPAIRED. I BEGAN HEARING A SQUEAL COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND ON STOPPING I COULD HEAR THE COOLING FAN HITTING THE FAN COWLING. I THOUGHT THE SQUEAL WAS FROM ONE OF THE IDLER PULLEYS ON THE SERPENTINE BELT, AND THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE FAN COWLING HAD LOOSENED. ON MY WAY TO THE REPAIR STATION, I LOST THE BELT, IT CAME COMPLETELY OFF. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS THE RADIATOR SUPPORT HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AND DISINTEGRATED CAUSING THE FRONT PORTION OF THE ENGINE COMPONENTS TO FALL FORWARD. I HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A BODY SHOP WHERE THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE BUMPER, FRONT END, BOTH FENDERS, AND THE HOOD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR SUPPORT. THE OWNER OF THE SHOP KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN AND STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK AND THAT HE HAS DONE APPROXIMATELY 20 OF THEM IN THE PAST YEAR. $1400.00 DOLLARS LATER MY TRUCK RIDES MUCH BETTER AND NOISE FREE. I THOUGHT THAT I HAD SOMETHING GOING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK, FOR IT WOULD BOUNCE TERRIBLY OVER BUMPS. I THOUGHT MAYBE A BAD SHOCK. TURNS OUT AFTER THIS REPAIR, THE PROBLEM IS GONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING FROM A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE GROUND. HE INSPECTED AND SAW THAT BOTH FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE RUSTED AND BROKEN. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE STRAPS HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,930.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE FUEL TANK STRAP FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO COMPLETELY DETACH FALLING ON THE GROUND. VEHICLE IS A 2000 FORD F 150. DAUGHTER FILLED THE TANK ON 4/8/2011. TANK FELL OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT SPEED. BOTH SUPPORT STRAPS FAILED BY BREAKING IN HALF. WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 FORD F150 PICKUP, HEARD CRASHING SOUND AND HEAVY SCRAPING. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND FOUND THAT THE GAS TANK HAD DROPPED FROM BELOW THE VEHICLE CAUSING A GOUGE IN THE GAS TANK WHICH WAS DUMPING THE GAS ONTO THE ROAD. IN APRIL 2011, WHILE DRIVING OUR FORD F150, MODEL YEAR 2000, ALONG A COUNTRY TWO-LANE ROAD IN A RURAL COUNTY IN VIRGINIA, AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE GAS TANK DROPPED ONTO THE ROAD CAUSING A LARGE HOLE IN THE TANK AND THE LOSS OF NEARLY 3/4 TANK OF GASOLINE. I WAS ABLE TO BRACE THE TANK UP WITH A ROPE LONG ENOUGH TO GET TO OUR SON'S HOME A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY AND LUCKY ENOUGH NOT TO RUN OUT OF GAS UNTIL I PULLED INTO HIS YARD. THERE WAS NO INJURY BUT SPARKS FLEW FROM THE TANK AFTER IT DROPPED ONTO THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO FIRE. I HAD A MECHANIC REPLACE THE TANK AND THE STRAP AND HAVE HAD THE TRUCK BACK INTO THE SHOP TWICE TO REPAIR LEAKAGE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE NECK ASSEMBLY AS WELL. WE WERE MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL ON OUR MODEL F150 AND TOOK ALL RECEIPTS TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THE DEALER REFUSED REIMBURSEMENT. *KB

THE GAS TANK FELL OFF OUR TRUCK NO EVENTS LEADING TO THE FAILURE WE REPAIRED THE DAMAGE TO THE TANK AND BOUGHT NEW STRAPS AND PUT THE TANK BACK ON THE TRUCK GAS SPILLED WHEN THIS HAPPENED.. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AND HEAR A LOUD METAL SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND STOPPED. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK MY GAS TANK WAS DRAGGING ON THE GROUND. THE FRONT METAL BRACKET HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKEN. THERE WAS GAS LEAKING FROM THE TANK AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED. THERE WAS NO FIRE. TO SAY THE LEAST THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY CAR OR TRUCK. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER REPORTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK. I HAVE A 2000 FORD F150 AND I HEARD THAT THERE IS BEING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTING THROUGH AND DROPPING THE TANK. THIS HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK CAUSING THE TANK TO DROP TO THE ROAD AND DRAG, ALSO CAUSING THE TANK TO SPRING A LEAK (NEEDING TO BE REPLACED). THE TANK, STRAPS, VENT TUBE, ETC. PARKED MY FORD F150 IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE LAST EVENING ABOUT 6PM. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY ABOUT THE WAY THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING OR OPERATING. WAS AWAKENED AT 3AM THIS MORNING TO MY NEIGHBOR BANGING ON MY DOOR,SCREAMING "YOUR TRUCK IS ON FIRE!" I WOKE MY HUSBAND, HE AND THE NEIGHBOR PUT THE FIRE OUT BEFORE FIRE DEPT SHOWED UP. ALL SAID AND DONE. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUED AFTER DAY LIGHT, TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL PART! RECALL WAS IN 1999, I BOUGHT THE 2000 FORD IN 2003 USED. NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT THE RECALL AND ASSUMED THAT IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I CALLED FORD. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD ME THAT THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT WOULD SEND ME A PACKET TO FILL OUT. BUT IT WOULD TAKE 15 DAYS BEFORE I WOULD RECEIVE THE PACKET. *TR
