WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT LOW SPEEDS, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRONT END DROPPED. *AK *SC *JB
CONSUMER POPPED THE SECOND SPARK PLUG. THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING ROUGH. THERE WAS SOMETHING BETWEEN THE PLUG AND THE ALUMINUM HEAD THAT MADE THE PLUGS POP OFF. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. PLEASE PROVIDE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. *JB
TRUCK BLOWING OUT THE NUMBER 3 PASSENGER SIDE SPARK PLUG. FORD SHOULD DO A RECALL ON ALL 99-02 SVT LIGHTING, AND FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE NEW AND IMPROVED 03 SVT LIGHTING HEADS ON BOTH SIDES. ALL THERE DOING NOW IS REPLACING THE ONE HEAD THAT BLEW, WITH THE SAME YEAR HEAD JUST FOR IT TO BLOW AGAIN DOWN THE ROAD.
CLUTCH FAILURE: MY TRUCK HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE CLUTCH. THE CLUTCH HAS TO BE PUMPED UP DURING LONG PERIODS OF NON-USE I.E. LONG HIGHWAY DRIVING OR PARKED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE SLAVE CYLINDER TWICE, ONCE UNDER WARRANTY, ONCE OWNER PAID. *AK

FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE OUTBOARD SEAT BELT WILL NOT FULLY LATCH. *AK RQ04011.*PCO
I OWN A FORD F150 2001 SUPERCREW WITH 64,000 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW. IN FEB 2004, I HAD TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. NOT WANTING TO HAVE A TIRE ON THE LEFT FRONT THAT WAS WORN WHILE A NEW TIRE WAS ON THE RIGHT FRONT, I ASKED THE TIRE AGENCY TO PUT THE SPARE, WHICH HAD NEVER BEEN USED, ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL MOUNT AND TO USE THE OLD LEFT FRONT TIRE AS THE SPARE. WHEN THE SPARE WAS BROUGHT OUT FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK, SEVERAL GROOVES ABOUT THE SIZE OF A MANS FINGER AND ABOUT 3/8 OF AN INCH DEEP HAD BEEN RUBBED INTO THE SIDEWALL OF THE SPARE. THE TIRE AGENCY DID NOT RECOMMEND USING THE SPARE SO I KEPT THE OLD TIRE IN PLACE. I WENT TO THE FORD AGENCY WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE TRUCK, SEGUIN MOTORS AND TOLD THEM MY STORY. SEGUIN MOTORS TOLD ME THAT THIS DAMAGE WAS COSMETIC AND THAT THE TIRE WAS SAFE TO USE AND THAT FORD WAS NOT LIABLE FOR THIS COSMETIC WEAR. ONE OF THE SEGUIN MOTORS REPAIR PEOPLE TOLD ME HE HAD SEEM THESE GROVES ON THE SPARES OF F150S THAT WERE LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS OLD. THE ONLY CONCLUSION I CAN COME TO IS THAT IT IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE. MY SPARE IS NOT SAFE TO PUT ON THE GROUND AND IT CERTAINLY ISNT SAFE TO USE THIS TIRE WITH MY FAMILY IN THE TRUCK AND DRIVE IT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ANY DAMAGE TO A TIRES SIDEWALL IS ALWAYS SUSPECT. ONE WOULD THINK WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT FORD HAS HAD WITH THEIR TIRES IN THE PAST THAT THEY WOULD CERTAINLY WANT TO PRECLUDE ANY PROBLEM WITH THEIR TIRES IN THE FUTURE. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME IN THE RESOLUTION OF THIS PROBLEM.*AK
SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE ONLY 4 TREAD WAS SCREWED IN. MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND CHANGED THE NEWER MODEL SPARK PLUG. NEWER MODEL SPARK PLUGS HAVE 10 TREAD SCREWED IN. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED BOTH FRONTAL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT, WHILE PULLING SLOWLY OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT 25MPH. SHORTLY AFTER THE DEPLOYMENT THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG ERUPTED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE DRIVER WITH SNOW FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. NEITHER THE POLICE NOR FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CONTACTED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE INSURANCE AGENCY DETERMINED THE DEPLOYMENT WAS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER ONLY REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE AIRBAGS WERE REMOVED BY THE CONTACT AND VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING USED "AS IS."
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH BRAKES FAILED, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE WHICH RESULTED IN A COLLISION. THE CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK *SC *MJJ
PROBLEMS WITH KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.*MR THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE 5.4 LITER ENGINE BUT THEY HAVE NOT FIX THEM. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED OR HIS MONEY REFUNDED. *NM
ACCELERATOR IS SPORADICALLY STICKING WHILE DRIVING. FEELS LIKE THE PEDAL HAS LOST ITS SPRING UP. THROTTLE BODY HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED, BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENING. IT IS DURING COLD WEATHER, BUT THE TRUCK HAS BEEN WARMED UP PRIOR TO THIS OCCURRENCE . *AK
A FIRE STARTED AT WINDSHIELD WIPER CIRCUIT BOARD WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING STARTED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOTIFIED. *NM
AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH 65877 HIGHWAY MILES. COULD NOT BE REBUILT,HAD TO BUY NEW TRANS.VEHICLE UNDER 3 YEARS OLD AND FACTORY WOULD ONLY HELP WITH $700.00 OF $3000.00 PLUS BILL.*AK
I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS REALLY STIFF SO I STEPPED DOWN HARDER AND THE GAS STUCK WIDE OPEN. I HAD TO USE MY BRAKES UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO SLOW DOWN AS I WAS AT THE TOP OF A LARGE HILL. I TRIED PUTTING IT INTO NETRAL BUT THE RPMS WENT TO 6. I JUST ABOUT BURNT MY BRAND NEW BRAKES UP. I SLOWED IT DOWN AS MUCH AS I COULD AND THEN PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT IT OFF IMMEDIATELY. MY HUSBAND THEN OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THE CABLE WAS STUCK AND WRAPPED UP IN THE ASSEMBLY. ONCE LOOSE THE ACCELERATOR RETURNED TO NORMAL. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING AS I NEARLY WRECKED THE TRUCK GOING DOWN THE HILL WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES CLICKING THE WHOLE TIME.*AK
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF DRIVER SIDE CYLINDER HEAD, ON AN 2001 FORD, F-150 LIGHTNING ALL FACTORY 5.4L SUPERCHARGED V8. VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING IN EXTREME RAIN AT AROUND 40 MPH, AND 1000 RPM. VEHICLE HAS 31,000 MILES, AND NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE VEHICLE. IF THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AT A HIGHER RPM, SPARK PLUG COULD HAVE BECOME A PROJECTILE INJURING SOMEBODY, OR CAUSING A WRECK AT 5:00 TRAFFIC TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN SOUTHERN CAL. THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY. WHEN I PUSHED ON MY BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED ME WAS THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. THIS BREAK PEDAL THING HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE BUT WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. DURING THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 20MPH IN DRY CONDITIONS. I HAVE A 2001 FORD F-150, 4.2 V-6 , SUPER CAB, 4X2, AND AUTO, WITH 50K MILES. I HAVE REPLACED MY MASTER CYLINDER HOPING THIS WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I SAVED THE OLD CYLINDER AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEND IT TO YOU ALL FOR INSPECTION. I TOOK IT APART MYSELF AND FOUND FOUR SMALL SCRATCHES ON THE HOUSING. *LA

DEFECTIVE FORD F150 SUPER CREW CAB (VIN [XXX]). CONSUMER REQUEST INVESTIGATION INVOLVING NHTSA RECALL NO 99V-124, FORD RECALL 99S15. THE TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE AND RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF A CHILD (DOC TYPE GEN). *NM THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE RECALLED CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. *NM INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
SPARK PLUGS WORKING LOOSE AND EJECTING FROM CYLINDAR HEADS DUE TO INSUFFICIANT THREADS IN POOR HEAD DESIGN. *AK
THE OWNER PICKED UP THE TRUCK AFTER IT WAS SERVICED FOR THE SPEED CONTROL. THE DURATION OF THE REPAIR TOOK (2) DAYS. LATER, THE TRUCK IDLED ABRUPTLY AND SPEED OFF. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK AND CRASHED INTO A GARAGE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM *MR

2001 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED.*MR *NM
AT 39,000 MI ,FRONT ROTOR BECAME WARPED, REPLACED. AT 43,000 MI GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM RT FRONT WHEEL AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF USE IN CITY TRAFFIC. MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.*AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY IT EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE TURN SIGNAL. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS BUT IT WAS TOO SHORT. CURRENTLY WITHOUT WARRANTY THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS WAS TOO SHORT. *AK THE WIRING HARNESS WAS TOO SHORT WHEN THE TILT WHEEL WAS DOWN AND THE TURN SIGNALS DID NOT WORK. *SC *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT DISENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY FAILED AND THAT THE RECALL REPAIR UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V348000 (SEAT BELTS:FRONT:RETRACTOR) HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 1/02/08. *LJ UPDATED 12/12/07 *TR UPDATED 03/10/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE SEAT BELT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THE CONSUMER COULD PAY FOR IT AT HIS OWN EXPENSE.

I HAVE A 2001 F150 V-8 WITH 46,300 MILES THAT NEEDS A NEW MOTOR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES WHILE IT HAD WARRANTY AND THEY DIDN'T DETECT THE PROBLEM. I EVEN GOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK SO I WOULD BE PROTECTED IN CASE I DID HAVE A PROBLEM. NOW THAT THE WARRANTY IS 1300 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY THE DEALERSHIP DETECTS THE PROBLEM. ACTUALLY I HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER SHOP AND THEY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO TELL THE DEALERSHIP WHERE TO LOOK! NOW I AM STUCK WITH THE BILL... FORD OFFERED TO PAY 3,000 BUT THE NEW MOTOR IS MORE THAN 5,000! I DON'T THINK I SHOULD PAY THAT WHEN I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE IT HAD WARRANTY AND THEY OVERLOOKED THE PROBLEM.
2001 FORD F150 "LIGHTNING" 5.4L V8. BLEW OUT THE 3RD SPARK PLUG BACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HEAD. THIS IS DUE TO A SMALL NUMBER OF THREADS THAT HOLD THE SPARK PLUGS IN THE HEAD ON 1999-2003 FORD F150 LIGHTNINGS, AS WELL AS OTHER FORD PRODUCTS THAT UTILIZE THE SAME HEAD DESIGN (MOSTLY 5.4L V-8S). HEAD WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, ALONG WITH THE COIL PACK THAT WAS DESTROYED BY THE EJECTED PLUG. DO NOT KNOW IF AN OPEN CYLINDER COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE. *LA
THE TWO MOUNTING BOLTS FOR THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS COME LOOSE. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE, IN EACH CASE IT HAS OCCURRED ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT CALIPERS. BOTH TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED AFTER A BRAKE JOB. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 200-300 MILES ON THE NEW PADS, THE CALIPER BOLTS CAN BE RE-TIGHTENED AND DO NOT COME LOOSE AGAIN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS, AND MECHANIC NOTICED THAT BOTH UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND STARTED SMELLING FUEL ODOR. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER, FOUND OUT THAT A SPARK PLUG EJECTED OUTWARDS AND CRACKED ONE OF THE ENGINE HEADS.*AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER FRONT SEAT BELTS WERE INOPERATIVE. BOTH SEAT BELTS LOCKED WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED AND FAILED TO RETRACT AFTER USAGE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC REPLACED SEAT BELTS AND RETRACTOR. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WATER GATTING TO THE SPARK PLUG CAVITY FROM SMALL PUDDLE CAUSING FOULING
TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM A DEAD START. I WOULD ATTEMPT TO CROSS AN INTERSECTION AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE. WHEN IT DID IT WAS WITH A VIOLENT JERK OF THE VEHICLE. THE FORCE OF THE JERK WAS SIMILAR TO BEING IN A ROLLERCOASTER. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE ONLY EXPLANATION I WAS GIVEN WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS RUNNING HOT AND FORD NOW REQUIRED AN IN-LINE COOLER FILTER BE INSTALLED ON THE TRANSMISSION AT MY COST SINCE THE INLINE COOLER FILTER WAS NOT ORIGINAL.*AK
2001 FORD F-150. A WELD IN MY DRIVERS SEAT SNAPPED AND A CABLE HAS COME THROUGH THE SEAT. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS CONSIDERED " TRIM " AND NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. I CALLED FORD DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY STAND BY MY DEALERS DECISION. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CAN BE CONSIDERED TRIM AND SINCE I CAN NO LONGER SIT ALL THE WAY IN MY SEAT I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS CAN BE CONSIDERED SAFE. WHEN I ASKED WHAT I SHOULD DO UNTIL MY ARBITRATION PAPERS COME, I WAS TOLD TO EITHER NOT DRIVE MY TRUCK OR BE VERY CAREFUL. ( NO KIDDING )
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH A TREE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER ACCELERATED AROUND A CORNER AND HIT THE TREE HEAD ON. *PH
STARTER ON F-150 SOMETIMES "GRINDS" AS IF ENGINE IS RUNNING WHEN FIRST STARTING ENGINE. HAPPENS SPERATICALLY. ONCE EVERY TWO TO THREE MONTHS. MORE OFTEN DURING COLDER WEATHER.
WHILE MAKING A MILD LEFT TURN INTO DRIVEWAY, RIGHT TIE-ROD JUST POPPED OFF CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. NO WARNING OF ANY TYPE NOT EVEN 1 SOUND OR PROBLEM LEADING UP TO INCIDENT, NEVER HAD ANY CURRENT DAMAGE OR ACCIDENTS, PURELY FAULTY COMPONENT. *JB

WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND WITHOUT WARNING HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF, CAUSING DRIVER TO PULL OFF THE STREET. *AK
WHEN BRAKING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS VEHICLE WOULD PULSATE. HAS NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC SAID THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE FRONT ROTORS WARPING, BUT PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.*AK

CONTINENTAL, GENERAL GRABBER AW, SIZE P255/70R16 DOT # UNKNOWN, ALL FOUR TIRES CRACKED. DEALER ADMITTED THEY WERE DEFECTIVE, BUT WON'T REPLACE THEM. *AK *PH *JB
WHILE DRIVING FROM OKLAHOMA BACK TO ARIZONA I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE SEVERE VIBRATION. I PULLED OVER, AND NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT TIRE HAD A HUGE BLISTER WITH BELT STRANDS PROTRUDING FROM THE INSIDE TIRE. I TOOK IT OFF, AND NOTICED NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT. I TOOK IT TO EARNHARDT WHICH THE TIRE MECHANIC STATED THAT A SCREW CAUSED THE BELT SEPARATION. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE CONSIDERING THAT THE TIRE ONLY HAD 18500 MILES ON IT AND THE LOCATION OF THE SCREW (VERY SMALL TOO) WAS NOT IN THE VICINITY OF THE HUGE BLISTER. IT'S MY BELIEF THAT THE HEAT WAS THE PRIMARY CAUSE. I HOPE OTHERS WON'T INCUR THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH GENERAL TIRE (GRABER AW P255/70R16) ON 2001 FORD F-150.*AK
