NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2006 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Around the 1st of February 2026 the weather had turned cold around 6 degrees Fahrenheit and I had just had my vehicle inspected in January so I know everything was fine then. My wife and I had driven to her office about 2 miles from our home and I of course had the heat on and defrost on. We went into the office to clean because that a weekly job for us usually under an hour. When we came out my windshield was cracked on the passenger side starting at the bottom going straight up about 8” long. The weather stayed cold and a few days later it cracked more and then more and then more. It’s moving over towards the drivers side horizontally about eye level. There is no rock strike where the crack started, it seems to me that when heat was applied to the windshield something expanded or contracted or flexed while we were inside the office because it was cracked when we came out to leave. I haven’t taken it to a Ford dealership to have it looked at or filed an insurance claim. It’s been about two months now I need to get it fixed before the whole windshield collapses into my lap. I realize the safety issue with a cracked windshield and it could cause me and others on the road to get hurt. I’ve only driven it to doctors appointments and to pick up medication at the store a mile away. I’ve never had a vehicle that has had the windshield crack due to clod weather when it was heated up and then cooled back down. Either the glass was manufactured incorrectly or it was installed incorrectly or the framing expanded or contracted causing it to bind the glass. If you could please look into this for me it would be greatly appreciated.
I WAS RECENTLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY VEHICLE. IT WAS A HEAD ON COLLISION AND MY AIRBAG DID NOT FULLY DEPLOY. THOUGH I WAS TRAVELLING THE SPEED LIMIT, HAD I BEEN ON A FREEWAY AND GOING THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT I THINK I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE LIBABLE INSURANCE COMPANY ENCOURAGED ME TO CONTACT FORD TO SEE IT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE. THERE WERE NOT WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER SYMPTOMS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.
Odometer Fraud. The contact sold a 2006 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was sold with approximately 212,000 miles but later discovered that the buyer had relisted the vehicle for sale with an advertised mileage of 135,713. The vehicle was a private sale. Local authorities had been notified.

while in drive, accelerating to highway speeds or cruising around 30 mph it will downshift and jump to about 4000 PMS's and not shift up into 3rd gear. It blown 1 engine and I have replaced the transmissions, taken it to a Ford dealership and they weren't able to help me. I've replaced the ECM and anti-theft modal also and the symptoms still persist. i am i in for over 11K for the new engine and transmission, and another $100 on the ECM and anti-theft modal plus the shop charges. The truck has under 190,000 miles before any of this started. I am the 2nd owner an had for less than 3k miles before any of the problems started. Now I see the 2015-2017 F-150s are having the same problems getting recalled. is there anything involving the earlier Triton's engines?

When is some one going to do something about the faulty steering column in 2006 Ford F150 pick ups and similar model years? It is all over the internet about the grinding and catching of the steering column. In some cases can't steer at all. There is tons of information on this problem. I have a 2006 Ford F150. It is starting with the problem and it only has 82,000 miles. This should not be happening some one is going to get hurt or killed !

The door latch on the back suicide opening doors on my F150 stopped working. We had a passenger in the back seat but when they tried to get out the door would not open. The latch had stopped working. Though they were able to get out through the other side, this is a very dangerous situation. Where we in an accident with the possibility of fire or the door would not open for the fire and rescue squad it could have been life threatening. Soon after this incident the other side did the same thing. Now both door latches do not work. How much worse would that have been if an accident would have happened and both doors stopped working. I cannot find a better example of poor safety design and safety threat than this situation. From what I can find there is no recall for the door latch failure on the Ford trucks with the suicide doors on the Ford cabs. The truck is still in this state because we cannot afford to get it fixed and yes it is available for inspection. I described above just how the safety of my passengers were put at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, but the problem is well known, all you have to do is search the internet for this door lock failure Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO, the failure happened all of a sudden and without warning. The same failure happened a few weeks later on the opposite side door latch with the same problem. If I would have had a passenger in the back at that time and gotten in an accident this could have been a life threatening situation. There would have been no way for the person of persons to get out of the back seat due to neither door opening.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the airbag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V107000 (Air Bags). The contact was provided the cost for a diagnostic fee to determine the cause of the failure. The contact declined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred him to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
i STARTED HEARING A LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER MY TRUCK AND NOTICED BOTH SPRINGS WERE BROKE IN HALF, ONLY THE MIDDLE LEAF...WOW
THE VEHICLE THAT IS TALKED ABOUT IN THIS IS A 2006 FORD F-150 THAT RECENTLY WENT IN FOR AN ANNUAL NYS SAFETY INSPECTION AND FAILED DUE TO AN EXCESSIVELY RUSTED FRAME THAT RESULTED IN CRACKS ON BOTH FRAME RAILS. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY ~50,000 MILES AND IT IS UNKNOWN HOW LONG THE FRAME HAS ACTUALLY BEEN CRACKED AND STILL DRIVEN.
My truck was sounding like it was going to fall apart, I brought it to my sons attention and u can see the truck sagging between front and bed of truck. We looked under vehicle and the frame is split in two all the way across. [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Random brake loss due to hydraulic control unit for ABS. The loss of brakes on more than 5 occasions has nearly caused several accidents as brakes fail to engage in traffic situations. The problem cannot be reproduced by automotive repair shops due to the random nature of the events. Inspection of the component does not reveal any problem. The component functions properly 80% of the time. There has never been any warning of any sort prior to the event happening which is why the severity of the incidents are not only surprising but have put me and other drivers at risk. These HCU components have had similar failures in other ford vehicles. Recalls are listed for those vehicles such as the MZk, Fusion, Millan.
Main truck frame is rusting through-presently the left frame rail just behind the left door is failing. The overall condition of truck is good, no body panel rust through(s)-note that I live in Northern Michigan. At this point I wouldn't lift with a floor hoist or heavy load the box with materials. A check of the web shows many of the same complaints........2006 Ford F150, I can provide pics if need or you can actually inspect.
The shift cable for the automatic transmission was routed next to the exhaust manifold on the engine. The shift cable gets hot and burns into from the heat off the exhaust manifold. I purchased the 2006 Ford F150 used. I had mechanic replace one shift cable with a new shift cable. The new shift cable burned into has I was backing in my driveway. I did research on the internet for trucks in that year range and it included other trucks 2007 and 2008 F150 having the same issue. You can find a ton of utube videos . ShowIng mechanics finding solutions to prevent the shift cables from burning into. I contacted Ford motor company about it. Ford wanted me to take the truck to a dealership and let them diagnosed the problem. The dealership wanted me to pay them a 150 dollars to look at it. I was not going to pay them for something that I already knew the answer too. So it is a manufacturing flaw with the way Ford put the shift cable on 2006 F150 and other F150's in that year range. I hope you research the issue and get back to me soon. Sincerely Yours [XXX] Ph [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
There is a very common problem with the brake light always being on due to a short circuit in the cluster, many owners have reported this problem for several manufacturing years, the brake light is always on even though there is no problem with the brakes. This creates a great hazard because if you do have a brake problem since the light is always on you will never know, and you may be in a fatal vehicle accident. Ford motor company should replace or repair all clusters that have this problem.I just purchased this vehicle with this very common problem. Your inspector can google it and will find this is indeed a very common problem.
5:30 pm 4/12/21 was driving home from umpiring a baseball game, drove threw intersection when suddenly I was thrown into passenger seat of my truck, the next thing I know im stopped in front of a tree with a telephone pole on the hood of my truck with no idea what or how this happened. I was lucky no one was coming the opposite direction on the 2 lane road cause I wouldn't have been able to control truck even at 40mph, another 5min and I would have been on the interstate going 65mph and surely I'd be dead. After a week I was able to go out and look at my truck thats when I noticed the flat front passenger tire was flat and the inner ring of the rim came off. I had an accident investigator look at it , I hired a lawyer and a metallurgical expert to examine rim. There was no warning the rims were still new.
HAVE A NICE FORD F250 2006 TRUCK WHICK OUR MECHANIC TELLS US TGE FRAME US BROKEN DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUSTING, THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN IN A FLOOD, NEVER BEEN USED UP NORTH IN EXCESSIVE SNOW AND SALT. THE TRUCK HAS 90,000 MILES AND NIW IS JUST JUNK. IN TESEARCHING THIS, FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS MODEL, SO NANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR, IT IS TIME FORD STEPS UP AND TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE, WHICH BASICALLY CAUSES THE TRUCK TO BE IN DRIVABLE DUE TO SAFETY, AND CAUSES IT TO ACTUALLY JUST VE A VERY EXPENSIVE TRUCK FOR THE JUNK YARD! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. WHAT KIND OF RECOURSE DO WE AS OWNERS HAVE??? PLEASE HELP
I BROUGHT MY 2006 F150 IN FOR SERVICE THE OTHER DAY, AND MY MECHANIC POINTED OUT A RUST HOLE ON MY FRAME THAT SHOWED UP. AFTER I SCRAPED SOME OF THE SURFACE RUST OFF, I FOUND THAT A LARGE PORTION OF MY DRIVERS SIDE FRAME RAIL HAD SIGNIFICANT ROT SPREADING. MY TRUCK HAD JUST BARELY ABOVE 90,000 MILES ON IT, WITH NO OTHER RUST ON ANY OF THE BODY PANELS. I DRIVE A COMPANY VEHICLE DURING THE WEEK, AND MY TRUCK BARELY GETS DRIVEN ALL YEAR. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE FRAMES ON THESE MID 2000'S F150'S ARE VERY PRONE TO ROT DUE TO THE LACK OF WEEP HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME. CORROSIVE ELEMENTS GET INSIDE, THEN HAVE NO WAY OUT OF THE FRAMES INTERIOR. WITH THIS POORLY DESIGNED DETAIL ON THE FRAME, CONSUMERS ARE LEFT WITH NEXT TO NO CHOICE BUT ANXIOUSLY WAIT FOR THE PREMATURE DECAY OF THE MOST CRUTIAL ELEMENT OF THEIR VEHICLE. AT THIS RATE, JUNK YARDS ARE GOING TO FILLED WITH LOW MILAGE FORD TRUCKS THAT RUSTED OUT BEFORE THEIR PRIME. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR POOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING. CONSUMERS BUY A FORD TRUCK FOR THEIR "FORD TOUGH" REPUTATION, NOT FOR THE INADEQUATELY BUILT TRUCKS THAT THEY SOLD UNDER THAT "FORD TOUGH" GUISE AND NOW REFUSE TO STAND BEHIND. I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED DUE TO THE SHEER NUMBER OF INCIDENTS I'VE READ ABOUT, ALL OF WHICH ARE CENTRAL TO THE MID 2000'S F150. HOW CAN A PROBLEM THIS PUBLIC GO UNADDRESSED? HOW MANY UNSUSPECTING PEOPLE ARE DRIVING A RUSTED DEATHTRAP AT THIS MOMENT, BUT WOULD NEVER SUSPECT A THING DUE TO LOW MILES AND A GREAT BODY? FORD SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT TO THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORTED THEM FOR YEARS.
IT WAS HARD TO STOP
MY 2006 F150 FORD LARIAT. IT STARTED WITH THE FRONT MAP LIGHT ARE SOME LIGHT NOT SURE WHAT IT'S CALLED. IT WOULD COME ON BY ITSELF JUST SITTING STILL WITH ENGINE OFF. AND NO ONE IN THE TRUCK. IT WOULD DO THIS ALL HOURS OF DAY AND NIGHT. THEN THE DOOR JAR LIGHT CAME ON GOING DOWN THE HWY. AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. WE STOP TO CHECK ALL DOES AND THEY ALL WAS SHUT. IT STAYS ON AND WANT GO OFF. THEN WITH ALL THAT GOING ON ALL MY POWER WINDOWS STOP WORKING. THEY WAS WORKING FINE BUT WHEN THE DIME LIGHT PROBLEM. AND THE DOOR A JAR LIGHT ON WHEN YOU GET IN THE TRUCK AND TURN KEY ON. I HAVE TALK TO PEOPLE THAT OWN A FORD AND MOST ALL FORD'S HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE GOOGLED THESE PROBLEMS AND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. BUT IT HASN'T BEEN ANY RECALL ON THESE PROBLEMS. IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THESE PROBLEMS ON FORD'S. IT'S A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
MY 2006 FORD F 150 HAS 125,000 MILES. I WENT TO PUT MY TRUCK IN REVERSE TO BACK UP OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND IT MADE A NOISE. APPARENTLY REVERS BAND IN THE TRANSMISSION WENT. I NO LONGER CAN PUT MY VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK UP. VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND IT BROKE FOR NO REASON.
THE STEERING LOWER SHAFT GETS FAULTY IN THIS YEARS TRUCK DO TO BEING CHEAP MADE AND GETS CORRODED WIN SALT FROM THE ROADS BARELY TOUCHES IT WHEN DRIVING YOU HAVE TO TURN EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE IT STEER AND IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH FOR IT TO BRAKE WHEN GOING DOWN A HIGHWAY ONE OF THE MOST IN SAFE DESIGNS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A NEWER TRUCK THAN 2000 THERE WAS A RECALL ON THEM THE EXACT SAME DESIGN IN THE CROWN VICS FROM 2004 TO 2008 MINE BROKE WHEN GOING DOWN THE CITY ROAD GOING ABOUT 45MPH
FORDF150 TRUCK. BACK DOORS WILL NOT OPEN.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED BUT SPUTTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED, LEADING TO AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. COMPUTER KEEPS THROWING CODE FOR INTERMITTENT CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT A BANK 1. CAUSE TRUCK TO RUN ON ONLY HALF POWER. POOR MPG. NO HORSEPOWER. HESITATION IN SHIFTING.
THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH.
THE WAY THAT THE WHEEL IS MADE IT ALLOWS FOR WATER TO SEAT IN THE INTER GROOVE WHICH THEN RUST HOLE INTO THE WHEEL CAUSEING AIR TO LEAK OUT OF TIRE AND POSSIBLE DRIVER LOOSING CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHICH ALMOST HAPPENED TO ME AT 60 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HWY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER IN TIME
I PURCHASED THIS 78,400 MILE VEHICLE FROM AN INTERNET SALE IN SEPT/OCT. 2019, WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF DELIVERY, WHILE TAKING IT AROUND FOR MAINTENANCE APPRAISALS (BRAKES, ETC.), ONE OF THE SHOPS WARNED ME OF MAJOR FRAME RUST. A VISUAL INSPECTION SHORTLY THEREAFTER SHOWED THE MAIN FRAME MEMBERS WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND PARTIALLY COLLAPSED FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK WHILE BEING LIFTED ON A RACK.
The problem is that the paint in the cargo area is peeling or fading, and I think that problem is a factory defect. That part of the cargo area is galvanized, I need to know if that is in a recall, thank you.
MAIN FRAME RAILS RUSTED THROUGHOUT. MY STATE DOESN'T CHECK FRAMES FOR THIS DURING NORMAL STATE INSPECTIONS. THIS TRUCK PASSED INSPECTION. ONLY 78,000 MILES. WHY ISN'T A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM?
MY F150 2006 IS GETTING A LOW OIL PRESSURE MESSAGE. I TOOK IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THEY ALL SAID THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. ONE CHANGED THE FAVORS CRANKSHAFT AND OIL PUMP. IT RAN FOR ABOUT THREE MONTHS. AFTER THAT I BEGIN TO HAVE THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE, LOW OIL PRESSURE. WHAT CAN I DO?
2006 F150 FRAME RUSTED THROUGH MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WORTHLESS, THE VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS STORED INSIDE AND ONLY OTHER MINOR RUSTING HOWEVER THE FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TRUCK WHERE THE CAB MEETS THE BED OF THE TRUCK.
MY TRUCK IS MAKING A CHAIN SLAPPING NOISE ONLY WHEN I FIRST START IT AFTER IT SITS FOR SEVERAL HRS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THEIR IS SLACK IN THE TIMING CHAIN. I KNOW THAT THE CHAIN TENSIONERS FAIL ON THIS MODEL. PLEASE HELP AS I LOVE MY TRUCK AND I DON'T WANNA LOOSE IT. BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I START THE VEHICLE AND THEN IMMEDIATELY GOES AWAY, IT WAS STATIONARY WHEN IT STARTED THE NOISE. I'M JUST AFRAID THAT IF IT KEEPS ON SLAPPING, IT WILL DAMAGE THE PLASTIC RUNNERS AND POSSIBLY HAVE A CHAIN COME OFF WHILE IT'S IN MOTION.
