TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE DID NOT DISPLAY ANY WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
VEHICLE SERVICE BRAKE LOST POWER ASSIST ACCOMPANIED BY LOUD NOISE UNDERHOOD POSSIBLE ELECTRIC BRAKE ASSIST FAULT. REPAIR FACILITY UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. BRAKES DO NOT WORK AT WARM TEMPERATURE S
WHILE DRIVING 45MPH DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD, MY DASH DISPLAYED THE FOLLOWING ERROR "POWER STEERING FAULT" AND MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED TO READ THE MANUAL. IT SAYS IF/WHEN THIS HAPPENS TURN YOUR VEHICLE OFF FOR 10 SECONDS AND RESTART. IF THE ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS AGAIN, TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. MY CONCERN IS, HOW CAN AN ELECTRONIC ERROR APPEAR FOR "POWER STEERING FAULT" AND STOP WORKING INSTANTANEOUSLY? I HAVE READ NUMEROUS BLOGS AND COMMENTS ONLINE HOW THIS IS VERY COMMON AND PEOPLES STORIES OF WRECKS OR THIS HAPPENING ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS! THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY! I UNPLUGGED MY BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES TO CLEAR THE ERROR FROM THE "TRUCKS COMPUTER". THE POWER STEERING WORKED AGAIN FINE FOR ABOUT A DAY THEN IT DID THE SAME THING. THIS IS AN ELECTRONIC ERROR THAT CAN KILL SOMEBODY IF IT HAS NOT ALREADY.
WHILE MAKING A SHARP LEFT TURN I HEARD A LOUD SQUEAKING SOUND, AND THEN GOT THE ADVANCE TRAC FAULT AND IT RESET IT SELF AND A FEW DAYS LATER GOT THE SAME SOUND AND FAULT. ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER I HEARD THE SAME NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED INTERMITTENTLY AND I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT DIRECTION. HAD VEHICLE TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE TECH THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, COST $1,750. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY FORD. THIS CAN PUT A DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY OR POSSIBLE DEATH UPON FAILURE.
THE STEERING "STICKS" WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND BECOMES DIFFICULT TO RECENTER THE WHEEL. IT CAUSES DIFFICULTY STAYING IN YOUR LANE. PROBLEM SEEMS TO DISSIPATE WHEN DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT IS ALSO ERRATIC AND WILL NOT DO THIS CONSISTENTLY, BUT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT LATELY.
WHEN MY TRUCK HIT ABOUT 40K MILES, THE STEERING STARTED PERIODICALLY "LOCKING UP". IT CAN STILL BE TURNED BUT IT TAKES SOME MUSCLE AND IS VERY CHOPPY. WHEN IT DOES THIS AND I'M IN A TURN, WHEN YOU RELEASE THE WHEEL IT WILL HOLD POSITION IN THE TURN RATHER THAN RETURNING TO CENTER. YOU HAVE TO PHYSICALLY TURN IT BACK TO CENTER. THE FREQUENCY OF THIS SEEMS TO BE INCREASING. MY MECHANIC SAYS IT'S THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE( EAPS ) AND COST ALMOST 1800.00 TO REPAIR PARTS AND LABOR. FORUMS ARE FULL OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS WILL BE A LAWSUIT COMING AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. SOME MODELS HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. MINE DOES NOT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE REVERSE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. THE CHECK ENGINE AND TOOL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ALSO ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED BETWEEN DRIVE AND REVERSE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. ON JUNE 12, 2015 I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON I 75 IN GEORGIA ON MY WAY TO FLORIDA. I HAD THE CRUISE SET AT AROUND 80 MPH AND CAME UP TO A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. I TAPPED THE BREAKS TO CANCEL THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THEN PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS THE SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. AS I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE QUITE VIOLENTLY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASH BEGAN TO FLASH. MY TRUCK SLOWED TO ABOUT 55 OR 60 MPH. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE MY TRUCK FOR A SECOND TIME BUT I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE. I PULLED THE TRUCK IN TO THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND ATTEMPTED SEVERAL MORE TIMES TO GET THE TRUCK TO ACCELERATE BUT WITH NO RESPONSE. ABOUT ONE OR TWO MILES LATER I FELT A "KICK" AND THE TRUCK WAS BACK TO NORMAL LIKE NOTHING HAD EVER HAPPENED. THE ACCELERATOR WAS WORKING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. I WROTE THE INCIDENT OFF TO MABE GETTING A BATCH OF BAD GAS AT MY LAST FILL UP.THE REST OF THE TRIP AND THE RETURN TRIP BACK TO OHIO MY TRUCK PREFORMED FINE. FAST FORWARD TO YESTERDAY JUNE 21, 2015 I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE STORE AND ATTEMPTED TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE ON A COUNTRY ROAD WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. AGAIN MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MY TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND I HAD TO PULL BACK IN TO MY LANE. AFTER A COUPLE HUNDRED YARDS MY TRUCK SNAPPED OUT OF IT AND I COULD ONCE AGAIN ACCELERATE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I NOTICED THAT SEVERAL OTHER FORD OWNERS HAVE BEEN HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. MY TRUCK IS A 2011 FORD F150 WITH THE 3.5 L ECOBOOST V6 WHICH SEEMS TO BE THE ENGINE THAT IS HAVING THE TROUBLE. I ALSO READ THAT FORD IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE.
WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT A LIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. THE ADVANCETRAC SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. VEHICLE WAS HAULED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. THEY KEPT THE TRUCK 4 DAYS, SAID THEY REPLACED PART #EL3Z3504BE, EPAS STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY, AND THAT THE TRUCK ROAD TESTED FINE. WE PICKED UP THE TRUCK AND WITHIN 20 MILES IT DID THE SAME THING WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. WE HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FOR 3 YEARS, 4 MONTHS AND IT HAS LESS THAN 53,000 MILES. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD RECALL. IT IS ALSO VERY CLEAR THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING, OR HOW TO FIX, THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU CANNOT STEER THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP!!!
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK MY STEERING BEGAN TO BE VERY HARD TO STEER AND A WARNING APPEARED ON SCREEN TO CHECK POWER STEERING THEN I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND WARNING IN SCREEN WENT TO REPAIR POWER STEERING NOW. I NO LONGER HAVE POWER STEERING AND HAVE HAD ESTIMATES UP TO 2200 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY REDUCED TO 15 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. MA 10/25/15 *CN
NO BRAKING WHEN JUST STARTING UP. WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE AND SHIFT INTO GEAR THE BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY HARD AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET STOPPED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND MANY INSTANCES OF THE SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM PUMP SEIZES SO NO POWER BRAKE ASSIST IS AVAILABLE. AFTER THE ENGINE RUNS FOR A SHORT PERIOD THE BRAKES WILL FUNCTION NORMALLY. YOU WILL GET NO NOTICE THAT THIS CONDITION EXISTS VIA A WARNING LIGHT OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THIS SITUATION IS VERY DANGEROUS, A BUILDING, A TREE, OR A PERSON COULD BE BEHIND YOU AND YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP. FORD MUST BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY RE-DESIGNED THE PUMP FOR THE 2013 MODEL YEAR BUT HAVE NOT RECALLED THE 2011-2012 MODELS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE ($700) AND MANY ON LINE POSTS SAY THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER AT FORD. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED EXPEDITED.
I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK BACK WHILE UNDER WARRANTY THEY NEVER COULD FIND ANYTHING, BUT IT HAD A MIS WHEN I WOULD GET ON THE GAS. IT NEVER REALLY STALLED OUT BUT WOULD JUMP PRETTY GOOD, NEVER SEEMED TO RUN REALLY SMOOTH. I KEEP TELLING THE DEALER TO PLEASE CHECK OUT. I GIVE UP AND KEEP DRIVING THE TRUCK AND NOW THAT ITS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY FIND THAT ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH VARIABLE CAMSHAFT AND GOING TO COST $4,400.00 TO FIX NOT COUNTING THE OTHER THINGS I HAVING TO PAY FOR THAT WAS TAKEN BACK WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT THE TRUCK WATER HAS BEEN IN THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD AND NOW THEY TELL ME, ITS THE HEATER BOX NEED REPLACE AT A COST OF $1,400.00 STRANGE THEY CAN FIND ALL THIS NOW THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. MY TRUCK HAD TO BE PARKED DUE TO THIS AND I NOW HAVE TO FIGURE OUT IF I WANT TO INVEST ANY MORE MONEY IN A TRUCK OR JUST JUNK WHAT SHOULD BE A TRUCK WORTH $30,000.00

IN ADDITION, THE REVERSE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V190000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING, POWER TRAIN). WHEN DRIVING STEERING WHEEL GRABS OR LOCKS ESPECIALLY BUT NOT ALWAYS AT LOW SPEEDS, THIS OCCURS FOR 1-2 SECONDS THEN RELEASES AND IS "NORMAL" AGAIN. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 90 DEGREES. DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AS YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHEN OR WHERE IT WILL OCCUR AND YOU HAVE NO CONTROL...
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THIS VERY HUMID MORNING MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE IN MY 2011 ECOBOOST F-150. AS I ACCELERATED TO MERGE, MY RPM'S WENT UP BUT MY SPEED ACTUALLY DROPPED JUST AS VEHICLES WERE COMING IN AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BEHIND ME. I LET OFF ON THE THROTTLE AND AGAIN PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR WITH THE SAME RESULT. I WAS TRAPPED BETWEEN CARS AND CAUSED ONE CAR TO SWERVE DANGEROUSLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT, BUT CERTAINLY GOT MY FILL OF MIDDLE FINGERS FROM UPSET MOTORISTS AND LUCKED OUT NOT BEING THE VICTIM OF ROAD RAGE MY TRUCK CAUSED. A MINUTE OR SO LATER THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OPERATE AS NORMAL. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE THIS MORNING I REALIZED THIS IS EXTREMELY COMMON WITH THIS ENGINE. I CONTACTED BOTH MY LOCAL DEALER AND FORD CORPORATE ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL AND IF I "WANT SOMEONE TO LOOK AT IT" I WOULD HAVE TO BRING MY VEHICLE IN AND PAY FOR SERVICE SINCE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY.

THIS F150 IS A 3.5 ECOBOOST WITH ELECTRIC BRAKE ASSIST VACUUM BOOSTER. THE VACUUM BOOSTER STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKING POWER WAS DIMINISHED. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE VACUUM ELECTRIC ASSIST PUMP THAT WAS BAD. THEY DID REPLACE IT AND HELPED ME WITH THE PRICE EVEN THOUGH THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY TIME. IF THIS COMES TO BE A RECALL, I WOULD LIKE FORD MOTOR CO. TO REIMBURSE ME MY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE.
TRUCK WILL HAVE SEVERE INTERMITTENT STUMBLE/MISFIRING ON ACCELERATION FROM 45MPH+ IN HUMID, WET OR DAMP CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY, BOGS DOWN, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES EVENTUALLY BECOMING A SOLID ENGINE LIGHT. THIS INVOLVES THE ENGINE SHUDDERING WHEN THERE IS ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS; THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO PASS VEHICLES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HAVE MY SPARK PLUGS AND COILS REPLACED AFTER THE FOLLOWING HAPPENED IN DAMP AND WET WEATHER CONDITIONS. MAKE YEARS SEEM TO INVOLVE 2011-14 ECOBOOST TRUCKS. FROM THOUSANDS OF FORD FORUM POSTS, THE TRUCKS HAVE AN INTERCOOLER CONDENSATION PROBLEM THAT IS CAUSING POOR PERFORMANCE AND SPARK PLUGS/COILS TO FAIL EARLY. WATER AND OIL VAPOR/RESIDUE CONDENSATION IS BEING SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE. PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT UPON THEMSELVES TO FIND A SOLUTION BY DRILLING A 1/16' HOLE IN THE LOW POINT OF THE INTERCOOLER DRIVER'S SIDE TO DRAIN OIL/WATER CONDENSATION/RESIDUE OR INSTALL A $400-$500 OIL CATCH CAN SEPARATOR WHICH FORD SHOULD BE OFFERING TO OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD OWN THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE AN APPROPRIATE FIX LIKE THE OIL CATCH CAN INSTALLATION OR CONFIRM WITH ITS OWNERS THAT IT IS OK TO DRILL A WEEP HOLE IN THE INTERCOOLER. NOT THE CHEAP FIXES I HAVE SEEN LIKE TSB 13-8-1.
FX2 3.5L V6 ECOBOOST: WAS DRIVING APPROX. 65 AND HAD TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE TO PASS. THE TURBOS STARTED TO KICK IN AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND MISFIRE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN WENT OFF. PROBLEM OCCURS DURING ANY SUDDEN ACCELERATION.
DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER, I TOOK A CORNER AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH AND THEN PUSHED THE GAS TO GET MOVING AND LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE, TRIED PUTTING IN LOW GEAR BUT TO NO PREVAIL, TRIED AGAIN SHIFTING BACK TO DRIVE WITH NOTHING HAPPENING. AT THIS TIME WE ARE STUCK IN TRAFFIC WITH PEOPLE FLYING BY US AND NOTHING I CAN DO. FINALLY I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE. RESTARTED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT RAN WELL ENOUGH FOR US TO GET HOME. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE AND LUCKILY WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME. MY 2011 FORD F150, WITH LESS THAN 23500 MILES, SUDDENLY DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH ITS ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM CONSISTING OF (A) VERY LOOSE STEERING, (B) A "SERVICE ADVANCTRAC" WARNING MESSAGE, (C) THE CONTROL FOR THE LEFT & RIGHT BLINKERS NO LONGER WORKING. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A DIRT AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED WHEN THE PROBLEM STRUCK WITHOUT WARNING, AND THEN GOT ONTO A PAVED ROAD WHERE THE STEERING CONTINUED TO FEEL VERY 'SLOPPY' AND SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE TRUCK. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WITH THE EPAS (ELECTRONIC) STEERING SYSTEM WHICH WAS FIRST INTRODUCED ON THE 2011 F150 MODEL. THEY FIRST QUOTED $1300 TO REPAIR IT SINCE I AM OUT OF THE 3/36 WARRANTY, BUT LATER CAME DOWN TO $480 WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT BEING A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT IT WAS RIDICULOUS FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN ON A TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 25K MILES (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, FORD COVERED THE COST OF THE EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT PART. THERE ARE MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS (WEBSITES & NHTSA) REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD EPAS STEERING SYSTEM. ITS SUDDEN AND UNEXPLAINABLE FAILURE, ESPECIALLY ON TRUCKS WITH LOW MILEAGE, MAKES THIS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN IN MY OPINION.
STEERING HAD A DEAD SPOT AT LOW SPEED, ADVANCETRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON FOR A FEW DAYS. STEERING WAS VERY UNRESPONSIVE. TOOK TO DEALER, WAS ADVISED OF A $2700 REPAIR BEING NEEDED FOR THE STEERING GEAR AND A REFLASH OF THE COMPUTER. 80,000 MILES, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR GOODWILL, HAVEN'T EVEN HAD THIS TRUCK 2 WEEKS. SO NOW I'M STUCK WITH A LUMP, NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. FORD DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE, SAID THAT IT IS LIKELY TO BE RECALLED IN THE FUTURE, BUT UNTIL THEN, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A 2011 MODEL VEHICLE WITH SO FEW MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THE REVERSE TAIL LIGHTS WERE NOT ILLUMINATED AND THE "R" WAS NOT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V190000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING, POWER TRAIN). MY ECOBOOST ENGINE STALLED DURING ACCELERATION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS ON A 2 LANE ROAD. THIS PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE I WAS IN THE OPPOSING LANE WITH NO POWER. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT THE DEALER MORE THAN 5 TIMES. ONE DEALER ACTUALLY PUT IN A NEW SENSOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO BUT THIS HAS FAILED TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE YET FORD REFUSES TO FIX IT.
WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE FOR WORK THIS MORNING, I TRIED TO TURN THE REAR DEFROSTER ON AND IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING AND SLOWING DOWN TO THE VILLAGE SPEED LIMIT OF 30 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD POP/ BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED BUT WAS STILL IN PLACE. I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT IT AND NOTICED THE REAR DEFROSTER LED LIGHT ON. I HAVE READ ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE AND THEY ALL SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME. THEY ALL EXPLAIN THAT IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE REAR DEFROSTER AND A LOUD POP AND THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERING. *TR
IN MAY 2015 MY 2011 FORD F150 3.5L ECOBOOST BEGAN MAKING A BUZZING NOISE IN THE FRONT LEFT FENDER WELL UNDER THE HOOD. FROM THAT TIME FORWARD THE TRUCK MAKES THE NOISE UPON START-UP. ONCE THE VEHICLE RUNS FOR A WHILE THE NOISE SEEMS TO FADE AWAY BUT RETURNS UPON RESTART. A TECHNICIAN TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE NOISE AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE NOISE HAS GOTTEN WORSE WHICH PROMPTED ME TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO DIAGNOSE AGAIN. THIS TIME I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE MATTER AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SOME CONCERN ABOUT THE VACUUM PUMP IN SOME OF THESE MODEL TRUCKS. UPON PICKING UP MY TRUCK THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE VACUUM PUMP AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE PART IS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH FORD AT THIS TIME. I MADE AND APPOINTMENT WITH THE FORD DEALERSHIP WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE NOISE. HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT 9/10 TIMES THE VACUUM PUMP IS THE PROBLEM. HE EXPLAINED THAT FORD HAD SWITCHED VENDORS FOR THE PART AND REDESIGNED THE PUMP IN NEWER MODELS AND ISSUED A (TSB) REGARDING THE PUMP. SINCE MY TRUCK WAS JUST OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, WHICH WAS QUOTED AT MORE THAN $900. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL MID AUGUST 2015 AND THAT I SHOULD SCHEDULE TO HAVE THE REPAIR COMPLETED THEN. I ASKED IF THERE WAS A SAFETY HAZARD ASSOCIATED WITH CONTINUED DRIVING AND HE SAID, "NO, THE ONLY THING THAT COULD HAPPEN IS YOU COULD LOSE YOUR BRAKES OR POSSIBLY 4 WHEEL DRIVE, BUT YOU'LL NOTICE THAT THE BRAKES ARE HEAVY IF ITS GOING OUT COMPLETELY." I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART THAT THEY ACKNOWLEDGE AS A PROBLEM AND HAVE REDESIGNED, AND WHICH CAN CAUSE BRAKE OR 4 WHEEL DRIVE FAILURE PUTTING MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS AT RISK.
SECOND INCIDENT WITH MY 2011 FORD F-150. EPAS STEERING GEAR FAILED 9 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING NEW. FAILED AGAIN LAST WEEK. SECOND REPLACEMENT OF THIS GEAR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE FIRST TIME THIS GEAR FAILED, I WAS UNABLE TO STEER, FORTUNATELY I WAS TURNING AT A STOP LIGHT AT SLOW SPEED. THIS MOST RECENT TIME I COULD STILL STEER BUT WASN'T SURE FOR HOW LONG. WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH ON A HIGHWAY IN GA WITH MY REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER ON, WITH AN EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE IN THE MID 50S, I HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG WHICH I INITIALLY THOUGHT WAS A ROCK KICKED UP BY THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION, I FOUND IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW PANEL THAT HAD SHATTERED DUE TO THE DEFROSTER OVERHEATING AND WAS STILL INTACT BECAUSE OF THE FACTORY TINT APPLIED TO THE INVOLVED WINDOW. IT'S OBVIOUS THE DEFROSTER WAS THE CAUSE BECAUSE THE SPIDER WEBBING BEGAN AT THE CORNER/BASE OF THE WINDOW WHERE THE HEATING CONNECTIONS ARE IN PLACE AND NOW MY REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER DOES NOT WORK WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACTIVATE IT. *TR

I OWN A 2011 FORD F150 FX4. WHILE MY TRUCK IS PARKED AND ENGINE OFF AND DOORS LOCKED THE DASH BACKLIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED AND DRAINS THE BATTERY COMPLETELY. Z THIS BEGIN ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. AROUND 55K MILES ON IT. I HAVE TO UNHOOK MY BATTERY WHEN I GET OUT OF THE TRUCK TO PREVENT MY BATTERY FROM DRAINING. I FOUND IF I UNPLUG BATTERY FOR ABOUT 10 MIN I FIND THE BACKLIGHT WILL NOT COME ON FOR ABOUT DAYS. ALSO, MY DRIVERS SIDE BACK DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK REMOTELY OR INSIDE THE CAR. I HAD BEEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS. EXITED OFF THE INTERSTATE AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE TRUCK BOGGED DOWN, MISFIRING AND ALMOST CUTTING OFF. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY FORD AND THEY HAVE ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS AN ON-GOING INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE IF THIS IS GOING TO BE A RECALL. THIS HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY WHEN I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS SOMEONE AND IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. STEERING STARTED FREEZING AT SPEEDS AROUND 20-25 MPH. NOT A HUGE DEAL AT FIRST BECAUSE OF CITY DRIVING.. IT EVENTUALLY GOT WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS..AUGUST 7TH 2015 , THE STEERING FAILED AT 65MPH AND SENT THE TRUCK TOWARDS THE CONCRETE MEDIAN. IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. I ENDED UP TAKING IT TO THE SHOP THAT MONDAY AND HAVING THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING UNIT REPLACED AT 1200.00 PLUS. I AM REALLY UPSET THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS WITH THE DANGER IT CAN CAUSE!

ONE WEEK PRIOR REAR DEFROST STOPPED WORKING. RIGHT REAR WINDOW SHATTERED, WHILE DRIVING INTO PARKING LOT. SOUNDED LIKE A LARGE CHUNK OF ICE FELL ON ROOF. SPEED ABOUT 10MPH. OUTSIDE AIR TEMP 38F. TOOK TRUCK TO FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD FORD HASN'T HAD A ISSUE WITH WINDOWS SHATTERING. A MECHANIC FROM THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT THE WINDOW AND STATED HE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO HIS TRUCK ONE MONTH PRIOR. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO CONTACT GIANT GLASS FOR REPLACEMENT AS THERE BODY SHOP DOESN'T REPLACE GLASS. GIANT GLASS REPRESENTATIVE STATED THEY HAVE SEEN A FEW F150 REAR WINDOWS SHATTERING AND MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE REAR DEFROST.
I WAS TRAVELING 45 MPH ON DRY ROADS/GOOD VISIBILITY/GOOD WEATHER IN 6TH GEAR WHEN WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED FROM 6TH GEAR AND FINALLY ENDED IN 1ST GEAR - DURING THIS TIME THE ENGINE RPMS EXCEEDED 6000 RPMS - I IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE ENGINE RPM. NEEDLESS TO SAY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURRED WAS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I THEN SHIFTED FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE AND ALL WAS WELL. LAST SUNDAY AFTER CHURCH THE TRANSMISSION WOULD AT FIRST NOT SHIFT FROM 1ST AND THEN WENT TO 5TH GEAR AND REMAINED IN 5TH GEAR TILL I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVE. STARTED HEARING A WINING PUMP NOISE FROM BEHIND THE DRIVER-SIDE HEADLIGHT. DAYS LATER I WAS PARKED JUST OFF THE ROAD ON A SLOPE, STARTED THE TRUCK AND IT ROLLED DOWN THE SLOPE RIGHT INTO THE STREET. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT AND NON-RESPONSIVE. THERE WAS ALSO A CHATTERING NOISE MADE. I PUMPED THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES AND IT WORKED NORMALLY AGAIN. I STOPPED AND PULLED FORWARD TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. THE SAME SEQUENCE OF MALFUNCTIONS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. I HAVE ORDERED A NEW VACUUM PUMP TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

AFTER THE TRUCK SETS FOR 8-10 HOURS, WHEN YOU START IT UP YOU WILL HAVE A VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL BUT NO BRAKES. THE VACUUM PUMP THAT SUPPLIES VACUUM TO THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER IS STICKING AND FAILING TO SUPPLY VACUUM AT START UP. IF I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS THE PEDAL WILL GO DOWN TO THE NORMAL HEIGHT ( THE PUMP BRAKES LOOSE AND STARTS TO SUPPLY VACUUM) THEN THE BRAKES WILL BE FINE UNTIL THE TRUCKS SETS FOR AN EXTENDED TIME. I REMOVED THE VACUUM PUMP AND FOUND THAT THE PUMP HOUSING WAS BUSTED. IT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD GOTTEN MOISTURE IN IT AND HAD FROZE. IN MY SEARCH ON LINE I FOUND MANY PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS PUMP. *TR
