RAIN, MISTY, WET CONDITIONS. 2011 FORD F150 ECOBOOST. WENT TO PASS ON TWO LANE STRAIGHT, FLAT HIGHWAY. ACCELERATED IN TO LEFT LANE. UPON RAPID ACCELERATION VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY DECELERATED AND LOST POWER. LET OFF OF GAS PEDAL AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. AFTER PAUSE VEHICLE CAME UP TO SPEED AND I WAS ABLE TO PASS SAFELY. IF SOMEONE WAS RIGHT BEHIND ME, TRYING TO PASS SLOWER VEHICLES AS WELL, THEY COULD HAVE POSSIBLYRUN IN TO ME. FORD HAS PLACED IT'S ECOBOOST OWNERS IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION.
WHILE DRIVING MY NORMAL COMMUTE TO WORK ON AN AVERAGE COLD DAY THE REAR DEFROSTER SHORTED OUT, CAUGHT FIRE AND BLEW OUT THE REAR WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (THREE PART SLIDING WINDOW) FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATER AND REAR DEFROSTER FAIL TO OPERATE. AT THIS SAME TIME THE AUXILIARY POWER PLUG BLEW FUSES IN TWO DEVICES. I TOOK THE PICKUP TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT I HAVE AN EXTENDED 75,000 MILE WARRANTY THROUGH FORD MOTOR CO. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME "GLASS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY" AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. *TR
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted. The contact stated that the wheels were shaking. Upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to shift out of first gear. The contact stated that the odometer was inoperable. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as designed. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the powertrain warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was like NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V248000 (Power Train). The local was dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer, Hacienda Ford of Kingsville (2501 US-77, Kingsville, TX 78363); but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer and the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
THIS COMPLAINT INVOLVES THE SLIP JOINT. I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY "FIXED' THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM RETURNED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS WAS COMMON ON THIS YEAR TRUCK. THE TRUCK SHIFTS HARD AT SLOW SPEED. .
MY REAR BUMPER IS RUSTING AWAY AROUND THE BACK UP SENSORS. I MENTIONED IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I TAKE MY VEHICLE FOR EVERYTHING SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING. ACCORDING TO THE RUST WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE THERE LITERALLY HAS TO BE A HOLE RUSTED THRU THE VEHICLE FOR THE WARRANTY TO KICK IN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOV 2011 AFTER RETURNING FROM IRAQ AND WANTING A TOUGH NO NONSENSE VEHICLE. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE 3.5 YEARS AND THE BUMPER IS RUSTING OUT. I COULD SEE IF IT WAS THE FRONT BUMPER THAT GETS HIT WITH ROCKS AND DEBRIS FROM HIGHWAYS AND A SMALL NICK CAN TURN INTO DAMAGE. BUT THIS IS THE REAR BUMPER AND IM GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE IT. REMOTE STARTED THE VEHICLE THIS MORNING WITH CLIMATE CONTROL SWITCH IN AUTO. TRUCK RAN FOR 10 MINUTES. ENTERED MY TRUCK TO LOOK IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDSHIELD HAD BEEN SPIDER WEBBED. NO INDICATIONS OF ROCKS OR ANY OTHER MATERIALS/DEBRIS PRESENT TO HAVE CAUSED THE CRACKING. FORD FIX YOUR PROBLEMS. *JS
USED AUTOMATIC STARTER TODAY AROUND 4:30PM. THE TEMP TODAY WAS IN THE 20S HERE IN WESTERN MARYLAND. WHILE DRIVING HOME I NOTICED THE REAR WINDOW PASSENGER SIDE PANEL WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED. UPON INSPECTION THERE WAS NO IMPACT AREA. JUST THE ENTIRE PANEL WAS VERY SPIDER WEBBED. I WILL BE CONTACTING FORD BEFORE I FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A DEFECT WITH THE DESIGN OF THESE WINDOWS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE BEFORE A CHILD GETS INJURED FROM SHATTERED GLASS. MY KIDS HEADS ARE VERY CLOSE TO THIS GLASS. I'M SURE IF THIS HAPPENED WHEN TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED IT COULD CAUSE ANY INJURY. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ADDRESS THIS BEFORE IT BECOMES A BIG LAWSUIT. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL FAILED AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
THIS REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED BY FORD AND IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD BE. HERE'S MY STORY: MY HUSBAND OWNS A 2011 F150 WITH APPROXIMATELY 25,000 MILES ON IT. ON DECEMBER 27, 2014 HE TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER TO CLEAR THE WINDOW. AS HE WAS DRIVING LESS THAN A MILE FROM HOME, THE TRUCK HAD BEEN RUNNING ABOUT 3 MINUTES HE SMELLED RUBBER BURNING, AT WHICH TIME THERE WAS THICK WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE PASSENGER REAR WINDOW AND THE GLASS BEHIND MY GRANDSON'S CAR SEAR SHATTERED DUE TO A SHORT IN THE HEATING ELEMENT OF THE REAR DEFROSTER. FORTUNATELY OUR 18 MONTH OLD GRANDSON WAS NOT IN THE TRUCK AS THE SHARDS OF GLASS WERE FALLING OUT OF THE WINDOW INTO HIS SEAT. FORD WILL NOT COVER GLASS UNDER MY WARRANTY. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE AND I HAVE INCLUDED THE LINK BELOW WHERE YOU WILL SEE THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH FORD F150 TRUCKS RANGING FROM 2010 TO 2014. THE TRUCK IS GETTING REPAIRED TODAY AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, MORE OF A SAFETY CONCERN FOR REAR SEAT PASSENGERS. UNFORTUNATELY IT'S VERY UNSETTLING TO NOT KNOW IF THE PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED WITH THIS REPAIR. WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN? *JS
I WAS TRYING TO PASS A VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY, DOING 70 MPH, ONCE I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE TRUCK BOGGED DOWN AND ALMOST HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE ONCE MORE ABOUT 50 MILES LATER AND THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE WITH ALL 2011-2013 F150 ECOBOOST. *TR
I TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROST ON MY 2011 FORD F-150 WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT AND THE R/H SIDE OF THE SLIDING REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. IT IS STILL IN ONE PIECE BUT THERE ARE SMALL GLASS FRAGMENTS OF GLASS ALL OVER THE BACK SEAT. I AM SURE GLAD MY GIRLFRIENDS GRANDSON WAS NOT PUT IN HIS CARSEAT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. I STOPPED AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER THEY TOOK PICTURES AND SUBMITTED IT OFF TO FORD. I GET A RESPONSE FROM THEM ON THE SAME DAY THAT FORD WILL ONLY COVER 50% OF REPLACEMENT COST. I SEE THEY ALREADY HAVE 2 SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS BACK WINDOW AND SINCE THEY ARE OFFERING AND COVERING 50% THEY SEEM TO BE ADMITTING THEIR IS A PROBLEM. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS HAPPENING FROM THE 2010'S ALL THE WAY UP TO 2014 F-150S. ITS A PROBLEM AND FORD IS NOT DOING TO MUCH ABOUT IT. SEEMS TO ME IT THIS SHOULD GO BACK TO WHO EVER MANUFACTURED THE GLASS. OTHER THEN WHAT FORD SAYS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE SOME OF THESE BACK WINDOWS ARE BLOWING RIGHT INTO THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. RECALL OR NOT THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
STEERING STARTED MAKING A FUNNY NOISE AND POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. COULD NOT STEER VEHICLE. NO PRIOR ISSUES WITH STEERING. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH AND DRIVING UP AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A RETRO KIT HAD TO BE PLACED ONTO THE TURBO BOOST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
LOST POWER DURING ACCELERATION, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. TRUCK HAD A SEVERE MISS. DROVE ABOUT 20 MILES IN 5TH GEAR AND ENGINE CLEARED UP AND LIGHT WENT OFF. TRUCK THEN MISSED DURING ACCELERATIONS ALL THE WAY HOME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO THE GYM ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. WHEN I GOT THERE, I PUT MY TRUCK IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF, GATHERED MY THINGS, AND THEN HEARD THIS CRAZY LOUD POPPING/CRACKING NOISE. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW JUST SHATTERED!!! I HAVE A 2011 F-150 WITH A REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER AND POWER SLIDING REAR WINDOW. THIS IS THE FIRST WINTER I HAVE LIVED SOMEWHERE COLD AND USED THAT REAR DEFROSTER, WHICH PER SEARCHING ONLINE FOR ANSWERS, APPEARS TO BE THE CULPRIT. I ALSO TALKED TO A FEW GLASS COMPANIES WHEN CALLING AROUND FOR QUOTES TO REPLACE THE WINDOW AND THEY ALL SAID I'M NOT THE FIRST F-150 OWNER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. GRRR. THERE ARE A COUPLE DOZEN OTHER COMPLAINTS OUT THERE TOO FOR THE EXACT SAME THING FOR THE EXACT SAME WINDOW ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID REAR DEFROSTER GLITCH. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I HAD THE WINDOW LOOKED AT TO SEE IF SOMETHING HAD HIT IT AND CAUSED IT TO SHATTER BUT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF THIS SO I'M BLAMING THE P.O.S. DEFROSTER. THE WINDOW BLEW OUT ON MY WAY BACK HOME SO THERE WAS SHATTERED GLASS IN THE BACK OF MY BED. ONLY $600 TO GET IT FIXED. NO BIG DEAL.. NOT! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! >=[ AND THAT WAS THE CHEAPEST QUOTE. I HAD QUOTES FROM $600-$950. OY. THIS IS B.S. ALSO, THE DESIGN OF THIS REAR WINDOW IS TERRIBLE WHEN IT COMES TO REPLACING IT. AS I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND OUT, YOU CANNOT REPLACE THE LEFT OR RIGHT REAR WINDOW BY THEMSELVES. IF THE LEFT AND/OR RIGHT WINDOW SHATTERS (BECAUSE OF A CRAPPY DEFROSTER OR OTHER CRAPPY REASONS) YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW, HENCE THE $600 BILL FOR ONE BROKEN WINDOW. IT THE MIDDLE WINDOW BREAKS YOU CAN REPLACE THAT BY ITSELF BUT IF THE WINDOW ON EITHER SIDE BREAKS, YOU ARE S.O.L. I CALLED A FEW DEALERSHIPS TOO TO SEE IF THEY COULD DO ANYTHING. NOPE. I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT EVERY MORNING I HAD NO BRAKES WHEN PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. THE BRAKES WOULD ALSO NOT WORK FOR THE FIRST MINUTE OR SO UPON START UP. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY BRAKING WAS VERY LIMITED WHEN I WAS GIVING IT THROTTLE ESPECIALLY OVER 60MPH. UPON BRINGING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FOUND THAT THE VACUUM BRAKE PUMP WAS NOT TURNING ON AT ALL SO THERE WAS NO POWER ASSIST FOR MY BRAKES. I CHECKED OUT ONLINE TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHERE PEOPLE ARE LOOSING ALL OF THEIR BRAKING POWER WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF I DID NOT CORRECT THIS THAT I VERY WELL COULD HAVE KILLED MYSELF OR OTHERS DUE TO THE LACK OF BRAKING. *TR
I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND WENT TO IDLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON STEADY AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FROM IDLE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE PAST IDLE. AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 1/2 MILE THE ENGINE AGAIN LOST POWER. I AGAIN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL HOME (APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES). ALL THE WHILE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON STEADY. A SIMILAR EVENT OCCURRED WHILE TOWING A 30 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER WHILE ON THE I-80 FREEWAY NEAR RAWLINGS WYO.IN JUNE, 2014, ALTHOUGH THAT TIME THE ENGINE SHUDDERED VIOLENTLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY THE LIGHT STOPPED FLASHING AND I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY WITHOUT HAVING TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE SHUDDER HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED TO MY FORD DEALER (MISSION VALLEY FORD TRUCK IN SAN JOSE, CA). THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE OR CAPTURE ANY COMPUTER DEFECT CODES AFTER DOING A COMPUTER SCAN. *TR
GOING UP HIGHWAY @ 55MPH. PULLED AROUND A VEHICLE TO PASS. ONCE, I WAS IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, CHUGGED, AND WAS STUMBLING OVER ITSELF. I THEN GOT BACK BEHIND THE VEHICLE I WAS PASSING. THE 4 PASSENGERS AND I WERE ALL QUIET AND THEN FREAKED OUT. AFTER A WHILE WE PULLED OUT AND ACCELERATED TO GO UP ROAD AGAIN, TRUCK DOGGED OUT. WE HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, BUT EVERYONE WAS FREAKED OUT. WE CALLED BIRTHDAY PARTY DESTINATION TO TELL THEM WE HAVE VEHICLE TROUBLE AND CAN'T MAKE IT. DROVE IT DOWN HILL ALL THE WHILE WORRIED THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO BLOW. DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THEY HAD NO CLUE AND DID NOT WANT US TO LEAVE IT THERE. SAID SET UP APPT. 7-10 DAYS OUT. PARKED IT UNTIL APPT. THEN THEY REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TROUBLES WITH THE BRAKING. WHERE IT SUDDENLY TAKES EXTRA EFFORT AND REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKES TO GET IT TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN WE'VE DRIVEN IT TO FORD FOR REPAIR THEY THROW THEIR HANDS UP, ACT FRUSTRATED, LIKE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY CLUE AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE. WE WERE HESITANT TO RENEW OUR STATE TAGS AS IT SITS PARKED MOST OF THE TIME, SINCE IT CHUGGED ON LEVEL SURFACE WITH NO RAIN PRESENT, AND THE MECHANICS LIGHT CAME ON. WE FEEL SCARED DRIVING IT AND IT HAS REMAINED PARKED FOR 3+ WEEKS. THIS IS OUR NEWEST VEHICLE, WHICH LOOKS NEW AND YET WE CAN'T DRIVE IT. WE'RE NOT MADE OUT OF MONEY, AND CAN NOT EASILY REPLACE THIS TRUCK. WE WANT FORD TO FIX THE ENGINE AND THE BRAKES, AND NOT ACT LIKE THEY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. FORD WANTS US TO TAKE THE LOSS ON THE VEHICLE VALUE OR CONTINUE DRIVING IT UNTIL SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS. THEY WANT NOTHING IN WRITING. AND, WE DO NOT WANT TO SELL THE VEHICLE TO A STRANGER. WE'D ALLOW YOU TO INSPECT OUR VEHICLE....AND DRIVE IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. WOULD YOU WANT TO BE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH YOUR YOUNG CHILDREN AS PASSENGERS?
I WAS ACCELERATING TO FREEWAY SPEED WHEN MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE AND MY ENGINE WAS NOT ALLOWING ME TO SPEED UP. IT FELT LIKE DRIVING OVER A WASHBOARD. THE ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND CONTINUED TO DO SO UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND THEY REPLACED THE FAULTY SPARK PLUGS. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS NOW OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS. THE DEALER HAS NOW REPLACED THESE SPARK PLUGS 3 TIMES, TWICE OF WHICH THE ENTIRE SET OF SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED OVER THIS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT ALWAYS OCCURS AS I AM DRIVING AND SPEEDING UP TO GET ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING INTO WORK HAD PUT MY DEFROSTER ON FOR THE BACK WINDOW ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING HIT THE ROOF I GOT TO WORK LOOKED AT THE ROOF THEN NOTICED MY BACK RIGHT REAR PASSENGER WINDOW WAS SHATTERED IT'S A ELECTRIC SLIDING WINDOW AND MY INFANTS CAR SEAT IS PLACED RIGHT IN FRONT OF THAT WINDOW THAT SHATTERED I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS MY BROTHER IN LAW HAS SAME TRUCK AND SAME HAPPENED TO HIM I CALLED FORD AND THEY ARE TOTALLY UNWILLING TO HELP IN ANYWAY IF I REPLACE THIS WINDOW THE SAME CAN HAPPEN AND GLASS CAN HIT MY SON CAUSE INJURIES. *TR
POWER REAR WINDOW GLASS HAS FACTORY FLAW CAUSES REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER AND HEATED MIRRORS TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THERE HAS BEEN HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF CASES OF THIS ISSUE. FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL. THEY DO NOT COVER IT IN THEIR TOP TIER EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAMS. I WAS QUOTED OVER $1000 TO REPLACE WHOLE BACK GLASS TO RECTIFY. FORD HAS SINCE CHANGED VENDORS FOR THE COMPLETE BACK GLASS UNIT AND STILL NO RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH AND MY REAR END LOCKED UP AND IT ALMOST HAD A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I SEARCHED ON LINE FOR RECALLS AND ON THE 2011S THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS AT THIS TIME. I FOUND 5 RECALLS ON 2011S F150:1 RECALL ID 68928 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,2 RECALL ID 90589 EXTERIOR LIGHTING,3 RECALL ID 84274 STRUCTURE BODY,4 RECALL ID 91590 POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION,5 RECALL ID 90588 POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THE ECOBOOST ENGINE FORD INTRODUCED INTO THE F150 (AND OTHER VEHICLES) IN 2011 SEEMS TO BE HAVING COMMON AND WIDESPREAD PROBLEMS, INCLUDING MY VEHICLE. I FIRST REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALER WITH ABOUT 30,000 MILES AND NOW AGAIN AT 63,000 MILES. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS REVEALED UNDER ANY ACCELERATION "EVENT" SUCH AS HIGHWAY MERGING, PASSING, TOWING ETC. UNDER ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE "CHOKES" AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE AS THE DRIVER & PASSENGERS EXPERIENCE THE VEHICLE STALLING, SHUDDERING OR BUCKING. THIS IS OFTEN DESCRIBED AS THE VEHICLE GOING INTO "LIMP MODE" OPERATING ON FEWER THAN ALL CYLINDERS. THE PROBLEMS APPEAR TO STEM FROM DYSFUNCTIONAL INTERCOOLER OPERATION ON THIS TWIN TURBO ENGINE. WHEN THE DRIVER ACCELERATES, THE INCREASE IN AIR VOLUME DRAWS THE MOISTURE INTO THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM AND CAUSES THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE, WHICH THE DRIVER EXPERIENCES AS AN ENGINE STALL, BUCKING OR SHUDDERING. SINCE THAT INCIDENT I HAVE HAD FORD REPLACE THE INTERCOOLER, INSTALL A SHIELD PUT OVER THE TOP HALF OF THE INTERCOOLER PER TSB 13 -8 -1, RE-FLASHED COMPUTER, REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, AND REPLACED FUEL FILTER. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD HAD OVER 1/3 PAD MATERIAL LEFT. PAD MATERIAL DETACHED FROM THE METAL PAD BACKING PLATE. THEN THE PAD MATERIAL GOT JAMMED IN BETWEEN THE BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET AND THE ROTOR. THE LOWER CALIPER PISTON BROKE WHEN I TRIED TO STOP AFTER THIS HAPPENED. THEN ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED ABOUT LEADING TO TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. I HAD BRAKE FAILURE A FEW SECONDS BEFORE THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED BRAKE VACUUM PUMP AND VACUUM LINE. THIRD TIME DEALER REPLACED VACUUM LINE. ALL OF THESE FAILED TO SOLVE PROBLEM, DEALER CONTACTED FORD TECH LINE AND FORD ENGINEERS TOLD TTHE DEALER THAT IT WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TRUCK AND COULD NOT BE FIXED WE CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY OPENED A CASE. WE RECIEVED A CALLBACK FROM A FORD REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER AND WAS TOLD IF THIS CONCERNED US THAT WE SHOULD JUST SELL THE VEHICLE AND BUY A NEW FORD SINCE WE HAVE THE Z PLAN. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT ALERT YOU TO THIS HAPPENING! I CAN NOT LONGER EVEN DRIVE THE TRUCK I BOUGHT BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH IT TAKES TO STOMP THE PEDAL DOWN WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE SYMPTOMS WERE THAT THE PUMP CONSTANTLY RAN AND COULD AUDIBLY BE HEARD WHERE IT WAS NOT PREVIOUSLY CONSTANTLY RUNNING. AS SOON AS I NOTICED A CHANGE I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO JOHNSON FORD IN PITTSFIELD MA.. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED IN OCTOBER OF 2014 UNDER WARRANTY. NO RECALL OR CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED FOR THIS CONDITION BUT NUMEROUS REPORTS BY FORD OWNERS HAVE BEEN MADE REGARDING THE SAME CONDITION. I BELIEVED THE AUDIBLE NOISE I WAS HEARING WAS A STEERING COMPONENT BECAUSE I WAS SIMULTANEOUSLY HAVING AN ISSUE WITH "NOTCHY" STEERING. WHILE NEGOTIATING A LONG, GRADUAL TURN MY STEERING WOULD LOCK WHILE TURNING LEFT. THE WHEEL WOULD LOCK WHEN THE TOP OF THE STEERING WHEEL WAS IN THE AREA OF THE 10 O'CLOCK POSITION. NO CRASH OCCURRED BUT THE CONDITION WAS VERY UNSAFE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN ERRATICALLY TO REMEDY THE CONDITION. A HARD YANK ON THE WHEEL WAS NECESSARY TO FORCIBLY INCREASE STEERING INPUT. THE STEERING COMPONENTS WERE ALSO REPLACED IN OCTOBER OF 2014 BY JOHNSON FORD UNDER WARRANTY. NO RECALL OR CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED FOR THIS CONDITION BUT NUMEROUS REPORTS HAVE BEEN MADE REGARDING THE SAME CONDITION. THE ELECTRIC VACUUM ASSIST REPLACED IN OCTOBER OF 2014, NINE MONTHS AGO WAS THE SAME PART WITH NO UPDATES AS THE ONE THAT FAILED. I AGAIN HEAR THE VACUUM ASSIST MOTOR RUNNING ALMOST CONSTANT AS IT WAS WHEN REPLACED. THE TRUCK IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS VACUUM ASSIST FOR NINE MONTHS. I SPOKE WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO WARRANTY IS AVAILABLE AS I HAVE DRIVEN THE TRUCK IN EXCESS OF 12,000 MILES (12,200 MILES AT THE TIME I REPORTED THE PROBLEM). THE CUSTOMER SERVICE EMPLOYEE OFFERED NO SERVICE OTHER THAN TO BRING IT TO FORD AT MY EXPENSE FOR REPAIRS, $130.00 DIAGNOSIS, $580 PUMP, $200.00 LABOR.
LOUD SOUND AND POPPING WHEN TURNING WHEELS SHARP. HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A WHILE AND HAS GOTTEN WORSE. SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC MESSAGE DISPLAYS AND THEN TURN SIGNALS NO LONGER WORK. EVENTUALLY WARNING WOULD DISAPPEAR BUT WOULD COME BACK ON WHEN TURNING SHARP AGAIN. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND PROBLEM BECAME SO BAD THAT VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN. HAVING TO REPLACE RACK AND PINION. *TR
I HAVE A 2011 F-150 CERT. PREOWNED ( 9/22/2014) , AND FROM DAY ONE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING , FROM APPROXIMATELY 45MPH AND UP, WHEN GOING INTO LEFT CURVE STEERING WILL TRY TO CONTINUE TO TURN OR TRACK TO THE LEFT, BUTT FORD CERT. TECH. CAN'T SEAM TO FIND THE PROBLEM ?? IMAGINE THAT !
MY 2011 FORD F150 -WITH ONLY 39000 MILES- HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE RACK MOUNTED ELECTRIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING MODULE WHICH PROHIBITED IT FROM BEING DRIVEN. THE FAILURE CAUSED AN INCREASE IN STEERING EFFORT (NO POWER ASSIST) OF THE VEHICLE WHICH NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THAT TIME AND WAS PARKED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, A DRIVER ALERT WAS OBSERVED THAT INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK HAD FAILED AND WARNED TO SERVICE THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO RESET THE SYSTEM BUT THE MESSAGE RETURNED AGAIN AFTER RESTART AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. TOTAL REPLACEMENT COST WAS IN EXCESS OF $1500.00. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 39000 MILES INDICATED ON THE ODOMETER. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO REPORTS OF THE FAILURES ON SEDAN VEHICLES INSTALLED WITH SIMILARLY DESIGNED POWER STEERING RACKS. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO NHTSA, THAT THE RECALL/INVESTIGATION OF THIS ISSUE WITH SEDANS BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE FORD LIGHT TRUCKS. *TR
