In freezing/wintertime conditions drive side door latch freezes open and the door will not remain closed while driving. Problem remains until the truck warms up. Previous recall to fix issue did not resolve the problem. Dealer has no current fix for the problem other than to tell me it’s a known issue.
2018 - F 150 3.5 twin turbo 10 speed transmission Truck 28K miles: After starting my acceleration from a stop light my transmission just stopped working as if it was not engaged and as I pushed the accelerator nothing was happening. The truck was not moving forward and since I was on a hill the truck started to roll backwards almost contacting the vehicle behind me before pushing the breaks. I was stuck at a busy intersection and had no response out of my truck what felt like 40 seconds before the transmission engaged and the truck to move forward again. This has not happened in the last two weeks but at times it feels like the transmission is grinding when I accelerate from a stop. I plan to bring it into the dealer but need to have my truck and it's been taking the dealers around my area weeks even months to get serviced for repairs. After finding reviews on the web about 10 speed transmissions Ford is using I'm not encouraged by this defect that can be a real safety problem. If a person was walking behind me expecting the truck to go forward and it rolls backward, it could be a fatal mishap. I live in an area with steep hills so Im not feeling very confident in the fixes Ford is doing for other customers who have this same problem as Im starting to experience.
02/08/2022 Complaint Airbag steering wheel assembly when deployed detached like a rocket into my face and then blew out the rear window i am assuming or it was from the collision. Front end collision into the wall of the 101 southbound fwy in Mesa arizona all airbags deployed. i suffered air bag burns and bruising and my glasses frame were broken in half cutting my right eye lid. My concern is the steering wheel airbag deployed and the whole steering wheel airbag assembly detached from the steering wheel struck my face and possibly blew out the rear window. My investigation when steering wheel air bag deploys the airbag assembly remains attached to the steering wheel. i uploaded pictures of steering wheel airbag assembly notice the back was melted. in the collision the battery was damaged and post was severed possibly saving me from a electrical fire.
Lug nuts swelling and deformed. Issue was noted during routine maintenance at certified Ford service center.
Continuing issue with the door latches freezing. 20deg weather truck sat all day in car port. Opened driver door and would not latch closed. Lock would not operate. Had to drive holding the door shut. Finally got home and repeatedly worked lock plunger to get in lock position. Door then latched and then would NOT open. Next day heated door latch thru side hole with heat gun to get to work. After sitting 2 hrs again could not get door to latch closed. Drove holding door closed. If lock will move door will latch but then can not be opened from inside or outside. Truck has had two recalls have been completed to fix issue. Still having major issue. In Midwest area.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during cold starts, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the cam phasers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 42,000.
Transmission on 2018 F150 XLT does not shift properly. When driving, the lower gears shift very hard, enough to snap your neck. I used the Tow/Haul transmission feature one day, and while coasting to a stop, the transmission shifted down so hard that everything in the truck went flying. I know that some of the 2018 F150 trucks have been recalled for this very reason but at this time, my VIN number has not been added to the list. My vehicle just hit 30,000 miles. I talked with my Ford dealer, Ford itself and the NHTSA.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, he noticed that the tailgate had unexpectedly opened. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V983000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
When accelerating to pass another vehicle the truck started shaking violently engine rpms were erratic and I lost almost all forward momentum. This incident almost caused a head on collision. Truck has shifted erratic since purchased and has undergone the lastest ford updates/repairs to no avail. Four-wheel drive is also engaging randomly and has also been repaired to no avail. It would be great if something would be done about these issues before someone gets killed. You just never know how the truck is going to drive on any given day...
Transmission slips gears and loses acceleration. Very dangerous when pulling out onto the road and have had a couple close calls with oncoming vehicles.
10 speed Transmission has severe jerking and clunking while going through the sequence from 1 to 10 on dash board. It almost sounds like something is bound or about to break. The amount of noise and clunking happens most often. I’ve been told by the dealer it’s a normal occurance. My truck has 22,000 and has done it from day one(Nov 2018).
The tailgate has opened while driving. The tailgate has opened while parked. The tailgate malfunction appears to trigger the alarm system as the horn and lights flash. The horn and lights are completely random. Even if the tailgate is left down, truck unlocked, and the engine is off the horn will “blow” randomly and / or the exterior lights will flash. All completely random. However the main safety concern is the tailgate opening while driving. I have appointment with dealership.
Doors would not latch in temperature colder than 25F.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the front driver’s side and passenger’s side doors and the rear passenger’s side door failed to close as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired under an unknown recall. However, the failure reoccurred on the rear passenger’s side door a year later. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would be charged a diagnostic fee and to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
My cam phasers rattle on cold start. Ford issued several customer service programs for this issue on the 2018 F150 3.5L ecoboosts however my truck was not covered even though it was also affected.
Tailgate opens on its own at highway speeds which could result in contents of pickup bed being ejected onto roadway or following vehicles. This was the subject of a prior recall and the repair was completed, however the problem has reoccurred twice recently.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03; as the probable cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during the initial start of the vehicle, there was a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing belt had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormally loud grinding sound coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was previously repaired under Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement – Extended Warranty); however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the camshaft phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Rear window shutters while driving with no reason or any object hitting it
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made abnormal rattling sounds. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle made abnormal ticking sounds while idling and while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 21N03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Parked 2018 F-150 on slight incline facing downhill. 12' dump trailer attached with load of 2000 lbs. Put transmission in park and set park brake. While preparing to unload trailer, I think I heard a popping sound. Then the truck suddenly began to roll downhill. It traveled about 70 feet before crashing into two parked cars. I ran to the truck and confirmed the transmission was in park and the brake indicator light was on, confirming that I had set the park brake. The truck had rolled freely with no indication of resistance from the brakes or transmission. Considerable damage was done to my truck, the trailer, and the two parked cars. My truck was towed but repairs have not yet begun and no cause has been determined as to why both the park brake and the transmission failed at the same time.
It was freezing temperatures outside and went to shut my door and would not latch. I then tried other doors and encountered the same problem. Door latches or locks must have been frozen and not operating correctly.
On multiple occasions there is an error displayed which states, “Hood opened”. Upon inspection the hood in latched shut. This warning will not show for weeks at a time and then it will return unexpectedly although the hood is still latched closed. Investigation on F150forums.com shows this has occurred to multiple F150 models. I spoke with a dealership and they stated they are not aware of any hood latch issues. This issue also causes the alarm to trigger as it detects someone tampering with the hood. In addition when attempting to verify the vehicle is locked (by clicking the lock button twice) the truck will sometimes honk the horn twice which means something on the vehicle is not closed properly. Finally, this issue does not allow the truck to remote start as it does not identify as the truck being completely secured.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal sound and the tailgate unexpectedly opened. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the VIN was not under warranty for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Doors won't latch in below freezing temperatures even after recall preformed in February 2021. Dealer says there's nothing to be done at this point since the recall has already been preformed. The majority of the time when the temperatures drop below freezing you must drive holding doors closed till it will eventually latch. On several occasions the passenger rear door appeared to latch correctly only to swing open when i make a turn. This has happened with my child in their car seat in the passenger rear area. Available for inspection
The door latches on the F-150 become frozen when temperatures drop below freezing. There is no Manual maneuvers you can do to get the door to latch close once it is open. Thus, once the drivers side door is opened for the driver to get in on a freezing morning, the door will not latch close. This causes me to drive down the road with an open door, holding it closed while I make turns down the windy road. It is not until the vehicle and the latch thaw a bit will it secure itself closed.
Turned on defroster, rear window shattered. Car was parked.
When the weather drops below 20 degrees the driver side door latch either won't open or won't relatch when you shut then door; leaving the door to potentially open while driving down the road.
During below freezing temperatures the door latches on passenger doors once opened would not latch. Had to hold door shut to get home. Talked to Ford dealership and they said there had been these issues and a recall. No warning lights. First time happened January 2,2022 then January 3, 2022
I own a 2018 Ford F-150, with the Cougar V-8 and a turbocharger. A few years ago, while on the expressway, I had to accelerate to clear a dangerous situation. A message came up on the instrument cluster saying that I was seriously low on oil. I pulled off on the shoulder and shut the engine off. I checked the oil level and it was almost empty. The truck only had about 10,000 miles on it at the time. I had checked the level prior to leaving and it was full. Luckily, I carry extra oil on long trips, a habit I got into back when I used to drive beaters. I had enough oil to fill the engine back up with oil and proceed on my way. I have not had any oil loss since then, although I rarely drive the truck, except to pick up lumber or other large loads, and it currently has about 23,000 miles on it. A few years ago, I read about an F-150 whose driver tried to pass a slow moving vehicle on a mountain road and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. Everyone in the truck was killed. When I read that article, I thought back to what happened to me. Luckily, I had room to pull over. I believe that when I did that hard acceleration (as the driver on the mountain road must have done), a large amount of engine oil must have been sucked out through the turbocharger, emptying the crankcase. If this happened to the driver in the article, he would have been left with no engine power and no way to complete the passing maneuver. This is all speculation on my part, but an emergency hard acceleration should not empty any engine of oil, leaving the vehicle's driver and their passengers defenseless.
The vehicles electronic systems all seem to be going haywire. Towing alerts are given when not actual or sometimes not even towing. Backup camera is on/off when backing up then touch screen does not function for several minutes after backup camera was on. Towing and backup camera malfunctions affect driver safety and vehicle accident prevention. The problem has not been looked at and/or repaired by dealer as I'm investigating what the issue 'may be' (first indication is APIM module???) No OEM or Police inspections performed Started winter/spring 2022 and have gotten worse. First signs were Trailer Warning alerts then progressed with GPS and backup camera outages. Now none of vehicles electronics seem to be function at or even NEAR 100 percent effective.
Front Hubs, Bearings have gone bad, and they are on backorder. 6500 on waiting list. I have been on this list since Janurary. Was told today that the company making the part, are not even make them. This could cause an accident if the bearings lockup. The ABS and the traction control does not work. Making for unsafe driving. Especially with fall and winter coming.
On Jan 1st-I was returning to SE Michigan from Cincinnati and driving thru rain most of the way back that has turned to snow shortly after I crossed into Michigan. I was on M23 doing about 70MPH just south of I96 interchange (Brighton, MI) when my vehicle shuddered three different times in about a minute for maybe 2-3 seconds. Then a warning light flashed on my dashboard and went off before I could read it. Then it appeared again and flashed off again. Then vehicle shuddered again and my entire dashboard lit up with every warning light seemingly possible and all type of warning/error messages started circling thru main dash info center. My engine turned off and I had no power steering, brakes, etc. I pulled off to the side of the road safely but in a very congested area with left & right merging lanes. I shut engine off and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on and proceeded the test of the 30 minutes home w/o incident. I haven't had the issue since. However, I went online and saw numerous reports of other situations from F150 owners-most seemed to be a one time occurrence. Others, it was constant or would happen at specific speeds. Unfortunately, most don't report these incidences. I had an appt scheduled to run codes but had to reschedule and had it in this morning for a tailgate issue (separate recall issue). While I was able to get it to the side of the road, had my 17 year old daughter been driving this, it could have been a very unfortunate incident (new driver, petite girl with limited strength to turn or compress brakes with no power assist to either or panicking with no experience in such a situation). This needs to be investigated due to numerous complaints/reports on online forums.
When cold harsh shifts, missing shifts. Feels like shifts to neutral, engine speeds up then slams hard into gear. Today wrench light came on. 3rd trip scheduled to dealer.
Driving 35mph on flat straight road when rear sliding window exploded with no external forces applied. Huge noise shocked me and made me swerve into adjacent lane. Glass shattered all over the rear seats and floor of the vehicle. Immediately brought vehicle to Flood Ford in East Greenwich to be looked at. Service advisor said he had never seen that and because I was a couple months out of warranty they wouldn't be paying for the repair. Contacted Ford customer service same day and was told the same thing.
Tailgate latch keeps popping open I notify dealership May 24, 2021 but they would not do anything about it they said I need a new tailgate latch they said if I want to fix I will have to pay for it.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph when the vehicle's side air bags on the driver-side, front and rear, suddenly deployed without impact. The contact then noticed that a small fire had sparked on the floorboard near their feet. The contact had pulled over to the side of the road where an observer was able to retrieve a fire extinguisher from their home and put out the fire. The contact was unable to verify if a fire report was made. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who had not diagnosed or repaired the vehicle as of yet. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150 used for towing a 2016 Rockwood Ultra Lite Travel Trailer. The contact stated while driving, turning, or at a complete stop, the vehicle would stall. While at a gas pump the vehicle stalled however, restarted after 15 minutes. After, traveling for an hour the vehicle stalled again. The police were on the scene to direct traffic. Another vehicle towed the vehicle out of the roadway. The driver attempted to restart the vehicle approximately 10 times before the vehicle finally restarted. The message to SHIFT to PARK was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but, no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the transmission was shifting hard between the 2nd, third and fourth gears. Additionally, the contact stated that the RPMs revved significantly while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, and the vehicle responded after releasing the accelerator pedal. The contact also stated that while his son was attempting to drive the vehicle from a complete stop on one occasion, the RPMs revved significantly, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that his son turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Driver door latch fails to latch when it get cold outside. I was able to manually move the latch by sticking finger in latch mechanism to make it work. Drove and parked for 3 hours. Came out and door would not latch again. Seems like this is very common with no known fix according to traffic on the web. Ford is unwilling to fix.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle on two occasions, the electrical systems in the vehicle failed to illuminate. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving 30 MPH, the interior and exterior lights and electrical systems became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to identify the cause of the failure. After the third failure, the contact took the vehicle home and had an electrician inspect the vehicle. The electrician diagnosed that the ground wires had begun rusting due to being made of a nonferrous material. The electrician disconnected, sanded down, and used di-electric grease to prevent the rust from reoccurring; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250. The contact stated that when they closed their driver-side front door, the vehicle's rearview window suddenly shattered into many pieces. The contact called the dealer who had been in contact with the manufacturer regarding replacing the rear windshield window. The window had not been replaced as of yet. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 28,600
I was driving and as I came to a stop I lost all power and engine shut off. Received an error message to put vehicle in park and restart engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that he used the remote start feature to start the vehicle; while entering the vehicle he noticed that the rear windshield had shattered, with the rear defroster activated. The contact researched and became aware that similar vehicles has experienced the same failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted or made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
As thousands of drivers have reported and as NHTSA is clearly already aware yet puzzlingly remains silent about - my F150’s transmission creates whiplash when shifting, causes the vehicle to lurch, and loses power unpredictably. Ford refuses to admit the problem but the problem is the same as the rest of their poorly designed vehicles’ problems - they knew the transmissions had design flaws that made the vehicle unsafe to drive. I almost died on I-295 in Jacksonville when the vehicle randomly lost power and took it to the dealer. Now, because Ford has lied and won’t issue a recall that they know is their fault (they are being sued in multiple states for this exact issue) I am going to have to pay almost $10,000 to repair their flaw, by replacing their unsafe transmission with a safe version.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was off, the contact became aware there was condensation underneath the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was not able to be replicated. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the oil pan and cooler lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
My struts , shocks on the front of my truck leaked and they replaced both under warranty. 1 year later drivers side leaking again. They would not repair but said it’s a safety hazard?? Should be recalled!
I went to wipe the Black glass with wet cloth. and the defogger gridlines wiped off. Apparently they had overheated and became delaminated. This could be a sever over heating and could cause have caused the rear glass to explode /shatter. Looking through the internet this is common issue on F150s
