WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE GOT "T"-BONED. UPON IMPACT WITH OTHER VEHICLE, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. OTHER VEHICLE'S AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. PROR TO ACCIDENT, AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON & THEN FAILED TO GO OFF. HAD TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP 4 OR 5 TIMES FOR REPAIRS. *AK
WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE SIDE WALL SEPARATED FROM THE TREAD AROUND THE TOTAL CIRCUMFRANCE OF THE TIRE.*AK (DOT NUMBER: BM14974 TIRESIZE: LT26575R16)

WHEN HOLDING THE BRAKES ON LEVEL GROUND OR A STEEP HILL WHLE STANDING STILL, IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL THE BRAKES ARE RELEASED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY ON STEEP INCLINES. FORD DEALER SAYS IT'S DUE TO STEERING GEOMETRY BUT YET IT IS WORSE WHEN ENGINE COMES OFF FAST IDLE AND POWER STEERING PUMP IS TURNING SLOWER DUE TO LOWER ENGINE SPEED. ON A RECENT TRIP I WAS IN A FRIENDS RATHER STEEP DRIVEWAY IN THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS AND IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BACK OUT OF DRIVEWAY AS I COULDN'T HOLD THE BRAKES AND TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT THE SAME TIME TO STEER OUT ON TO THE MAIN DRIVE. HAD I RELEASED THE BRAKES I WOULD HAVE CRASHED THROUGH A RETAINING FENCE AND WENT DOWN THE THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTIAN. IT IS OFTEN NECESSARY TO TO POSITION THE WHEELS WHILE HOLDING THE BRAKE AT A STANDSTILL, ESPECIALLY IN MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN. FORD NEEDS TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. MY FORD DEALER HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS CONDITION AND IT IS A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION ON MANY ONLINE BULLETIN BOARDS SO IT IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT PECULIAR TO MY TRUCK ONLY. *AK
A COMPANY VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHEN USING, VEHICLE HAD BEEN EXAMINED, AND FIRE WAS THE RESULT OF TRANSMISSION LINES BEING POSITIONED TOO CLOSE TO EXHAUST SYSTEM, A HEAT PRODUCING SOURCE. TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS APPROXIMATELY 75-80 DEGREES. *AK MANUFACTURER NOT WILLING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY, THEY ARE STATING THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURING DEFECTS THAT CAUSED FIRE.*JB
WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BRAKES GRABBED AND RELEASED. VEHICLE KEPT ROLLING, BRAKE PEDAL PULSED AND THE VHEICLE DID NOT STOP AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK
VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. DEALER HAS REPLACED DRIVESHAFT AND TIRES, BUT VEHICLE CONTINUED TO VIBRATE. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND WILL NOT TURN WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND STOPPED.*AK

WITH LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK, I HAVE HAD TWO OF THE TIRES BREAK BEADS, CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOOSE THEIR AIR PRESSURE. NEITHER TIME CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, OR TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THEY HAVE PROVED TO BE UNRELIABLE, AND POSSIBLY DANGEROUS. I HAVE HEARD THAT THEY ARE BEING LOOKED AT FOR RECALL, AND BASED ON MY LIMITED EXPERIENCES, I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE RECOMMENDATION. THE TIRE BLEWOUT ON THE FREEWAY. UPON INSPECTION IT APPEARED TO BE NO REASON FOR THE BLOWOUT OTHER THAN TIRE FAILURE. THE SIDEWALL AT THE TREAD LINE WAS COMPLETELY SEPERATED ALL THE WAY AROUND ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIRE. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TIRE. FIRESTONE WOULD ONLY HONOR THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY ON THIS ONE TIRE. TIRES ORIGINALLY BEGAN BOUNCING AT 18000 MILES--HAVE HAD TO SHAVE TIRES TO KEEP FORM BOUNCING-I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TIRES BEFORE THE RECALL BUT FIRESTONE WAS DEAF AND SAID THE SHAVING VOIDED MY WARRANTY--BUT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING-I EXPLAINED I WAS SCARED OF THESE TIRES--THEN THE RECALL CAME AND I BEGAN TRYING TO GET HELP--WENT TO RIVERSIDE FORD AFTER THEY BECAME INVOLVED AND CONTACTED FIRESTONE AGAIN AND WAS ASSURED MY TIRES WERE FINE AFTER GOING TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER IN MACON GA. NOW I HAVE HAD A BLOW OUT ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 77MPH CROSSED TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND RAN A CAR OFF THE ROAD ON TO THE GRASS TO AVOID ME HITTING HIM. HAVE CONTACTED FIRESTONE AND THREATENED WITH A LAW SUIT AND WAS TOLD TO GET IN LINE AND GOOD LUCK BY ONE OF THE PHONE REPS. RIVERSIDE FORD SAYS IF IT IS NOT IN THE RECALL THEY CAN'T AND WON'T DON ANYTHING--PLEASE RECALL THIS TIRE BEFORE A CHILD LOSES HIS LIFE. WE FIRST HAD THE FRONT BRAKES PULL RIGHT WE HAD THE TRUCK IN 2-3 TIMES FOR THAT PROBLEM THEY FINALLY FIXED IT. BUT NOW THE BRAKES PULL LEFT. THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE/ELECTRIAL PROBLEM. ALL OF THE SUDDEN EVERYTHING ELECTICAL QUITS WORKING. I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO CLASSIFY THIS PROBLEM. THEY REPLACE A MODULE AND IT STILL HAPPENS. WE ARE AWAITING FOR THEM TO FIX AGAIN. ON THE TIRES ONE BLEW OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT ON A VERY DARK ROAD 1 MILE FROM THE HOUSE MY HUSBAD DROVE IT HOME TOOK IT IN THE NEXT DAY AND THE REFUSED TO FIX BECAUSE HE DROVE ON IT. APPROX A MONTH LATER WE WERE ON A ROAD DRIVING ONLY APPROX 45 MPH. MY HUSBAND FELT SOMETHING WHEN WE WERE AT A LIGHT,WE PULLED IN TO A STORE JUST PASSED THE LIGHT GOT OUT AND THE BACK RIGHT TIRE HAD BLOWN. WE CHANGED THE TIRE TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT ON A RECALL EVEN THROUGH THEY CLEARLY HAD THE WHITE RING ALL AROUND THE TIRE WHERE IT HAD COME APART. WE REPLACED THE TIRES WITH COOPER TIRES. WE STILL HAVE THE TIRES. GOODYEAR INSPECTED AND AGREED IT WAS DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING. ON THE WARRANTY PROBLEMS WE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE ARBITRATION BOARD. THEY STATED SINCE WE USE THE TRUCK FOR BUSINESS WE CAN NOT HAVE THE TRUCK REPLACED. NO WHERE IN ANY OF MY DOCUMENTATION STATES THAT. IF THIS WERE SO WE WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP KNEW WE USED THE TRUCK FOR BUSINESS. THE BUSINESS CONSIST OF A HANDYMAN BUSINESS. ON 8/26/2000 ABOUT 5:10 PM, I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON THE I-15 BETWEEN BARSTOW, CA AND BAKER, CA WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 70 MPH WHEN THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. I FELT THE VEHICLE PULL HEAVILY TO THE RIGHT. I COULD NOT REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING. IN ADDITION, CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS TAPPED OR STEPPED ON HEAVILY. THE LEFT FRONT GENERAL GRABBER A.W. (*LT 235/85R/16/E) TIRE BULGED OUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE, THE TIRE WAS REPLACED THE NEXT DAY, UPON RETURNING FROM A 2000 MILE TRIP THE OTHER THREE TIRES HAD AT LEAST ONE BUBBLE AND SOME HAD TWO. NLM
EXHAUST FUMES WERE ENTERING CAR, AND CONSUMER WAS BREATHING IN FUMES. DEALER COULD NOT FIND CAUSE. 2200 MILES LATER, CONSUMER TOOK CAR BACK FOR SAME SMELL, AND DEALER STATED IT WAS A GASKET LEAK. *AK
WHILE DRIVING COULD STEP ON THE BRAKES PEDAL AND VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE LEFT WITHOUT A WARNING.*AK
AFTER WAITING FOR A STEERING GEAR BOX TO ARRIVE AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, MY TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO ME. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES RATHER HARD TO AVOID RUNNING OVER A BOTTLE ION THE ROAD. AS I HIT THE BRAKES, I TRIED TO TURN TO GO AROUND THE BOTTLE. I NOTICED THAT STEERING THE TRUCK IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES. WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, NORMAL STEERING RETURNED. AS I WAS TREATED POORLY (TO SAY THE LEAST ) BY THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THIS INVOLVED A 120 MILE ROUND-TRIP DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME TODAY. WHEN I GOT THE TRUCK BACK, THE SERVICE MADVISOR, JACK DUGAN, TOLD ME THAT THIS IS "A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TRUCK" AND THAT THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. HE ADDED THAT IF I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY IT HANDLED, CONTACT FORD. MY RESPONSE IS, WITH ALL OF THE PRESS ABOUT THE F-250, (THANKS TO NHTSA) WHY DO FORD MARKETING REPRESENTATIVES DENY THE EXISTENCE OF THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, MIKE VAUGHN, OF FORD MOTOR CO., SPOKE WITH NHTSA AND SAID THAT FORD IS COOPERATING WITH THE INVESTIGATION. ALSO, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY FROM DRIVER'S EDUCATION, IN THE EVENT OF A SKID, YOU SHOULD STEER IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SKID. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO WITH THIS TRUCK. I CAN FORESEE MANY ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS SYSTEM. ACCORDING TO JACK DUGAN, THE BRAKES AND STEERING USE THE SAME POWER BOOSTER. I TOW A 23' TRAVEL TRAILER THAT WEIGHS ABOUT 5,000 LBS. I AM AFRAID TO TOW THE TRAILER BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION. THIS HAS PUT QUITE A DAMPER ON OUR SUMMER ACTIVITIES. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW THE INVESTIGATION IS GOING AND WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM? I LIKE THE TRUCK OVERALL, BUT CANNOT BELIEVE THE RUN-AROUND I GET FROM FORD AND CASA FORD IN EL PASO. BORMAN AUTO PLEX HAS TREATED ME VERY WELL THROUGHOUT THIS DILEMA. PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FUEL VENT TUBE WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE FUEL VAPOR COLLECTION CANISTER INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE UNCONNECTED OPENING OF THE FUEL VENT TUBE WAS WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE ENGINE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THIS CONDITION COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION DUE TO IGNITION OF FUEL VAPORS RELEASED WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEFICIENCY WAS EASILY CORRECTED BY THE OWNER BY COMPLETING THE CONNECTION TO THE FUEL VAPOR COLLECTION CANISTER.

SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE STEERING HAS HAD PROBLEMS. WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL THERE IS A DELAY. CONSUMER TURNS WHEEL 1/4 OF A TURN AND VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND. DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S REARVIEW MIRROR IS OF SUCH DESIGN THAT IT CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. DRIVER CAN NOT SEE ANOTHER VEHICLE IN LANE NEXT TO HIS VEHICLE. CONSUMER CAN SEE VEHICLE IF BEHIND HIM, BUT NOT ON SIDE OF HIM. *AK
