CONSUMER PURCHASED A CAMPER TOP. SUSPENSION IS TOO WEAK TO SUPPORT THIS CAMPER, BACK END SINKS DOWN ABOUT 3 INCHES WHEN CAMPER IS PUT ON. WHICH IN TURN PUTS FRONT END UP. CONSUMER HAS A HARD TIME LOOKING OVER HOOD OF VEHICLE.*AK
ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2000, FORD F250, LT235/85R16 SIZE. THERE IS A BULGE ON LEFT AND FRONT TIRE FROM INSIDE OUT. TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED.*AK CONSUMER WS INFORMED BY CONTINENTAL TO VEHICLE TO AUTHORIZED TIRE DEALER FOR AN ADJUSTMENT OR REPLACEMENT, CONSUMER DOES NOT WANT THE SAME BRAND TIRES ON VEHICLE, HE BELIEVES TIRES TO BE A ROAD HAZARD.*JB
KEY IGNITION WIRE WAS NEVER FASTENED PROPERLY AT THE FACTORY, CAUSING IT TO FALL OFF WHILE DRIVING OVER A RAILROAD TRACK, RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. DEALER DID MANY TESTS BEFORE HE COULD DETERMINE DEFECT. DEALERS CONCLUSION WAS TO REPLACE WIRE AT CONNECTION (1027)GREY WIRE. *AK
PE00040, ORIGNAL EQUIPMENT ON 2000, FORD, F250, TIRE SIZE LT265/75R16. PASSENGER'S REAR TIRE SIDEWALL BLEWOUT, ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH. CONTACTED FIRESTONE, AND FIRESTONE REPLACE TIRE. SO FAR NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE OTHER TIRES. *AK THE TIRE SEPARATION WAS 360 DEGREE COMPLETELY AROUND THE TIRE. FIRESTONE DEALER BELIEVES THE TIRE SEPARATION WAS CAUSED BY DRIVING AT TOO LOW TIRE PRESSURE AND ON A FLAT. *YH
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE RAIN PULLING A 30' CAMPER FOOT AIR STREAM, ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT LOST CONTROL, CAME ACROSS THE MEDIAN, SPINNING/STRUCK THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER AND DEALER, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO HELP. *AK *ML
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON 11 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. BRAKES WERE WEAK AND WOULD NOT WORK WHEN VEHICLE WOULD HIT A BUMP OR RUN AT A FAST PACE. DEALER HAD UNHOOKED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SYSTEM, AND THE BRAKES ARE NOW WORKING FINE. DEALER HAD ADVISED CONSUMER THAT THIS DEFECT WAS A PROBLEM TO SUPER DUTY TRUCKS . MANUFACTURER IS AWARE, AND HAS NO REMEDY, BUT TO DISCONNECT THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. *AK
AT VERY SLOW SPEED WITH THE BRAKE APPLIED (SUCH AS FRONT & BACK PARKING MANEUVERS, OR JACKING A TRAILER INTO A TIGHT SPOT), THE STEERING HAS ALMOST NO POWER ASSIST. I DIDN'T MENTION IT TO THE DEALER UNTIL FEBRUARY OF 2001,AND HE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" AND GAVE ME A COPY OF A SERVICE MEMO FROM FORD STATING THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND "NO REPAIRS SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED". AROUND NOVEMBER OF 2001 I RECEIVED A SURVEY FORM FROM FORD ASKING BASICALLY HOW I LIKED MY TRUCK. I TOLD THEM ABOUT MY CONCERN WITH THE STEERING. I ACTUALLY RECEIVED A CALL FROM FORD ABOUT MY PROBLEM. THEY ALSO CALLED THE DEALER AND WE SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE DEALER TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. ON 12/11/01 THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER PERSONALLY CHECKED-OUT THE PROBLEM (WITH ME ALONG), AND AGREED THAT THE STEERING PROBLEM WAS NOT NORMAL AND HIS COMMENT WAS "IT'S LIKE THE WHEEL IS AGAINST A ROCK". HE SAID THAT HE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, AND WOULD CALL THE FORD ENGINEERS. HE CALLED ME LATER THAT SAME DAY AND INFORMED ME THAT FORD WAS ADAMANT THAT THE CONDITION IS "NORMAL" AND ABSOLUTELY NO REPAIRS SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED. THEY SAID THAT HE COULD CHANGE ALL THE POWER STEERING PARTS, AND THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY HIM TO DO ANY WORK ON THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE HYDROBOOST SYSTEM DIVERTS ALL OF THE POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEED AND NOT TO THE POWER STEERING, AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS DESIGN. THE FORD ENGINEER GAVE THE DEALER A REPORT NUMBER TO USE IF THERE IS ANY FURTHER REFERENCE TO THIS SITUATION. THE REPORT NUMBER IS "1LKEB013" DATED 12/11/01. ON 12/12/01 I CALLED BACK TO THE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE PERSON THAT ORIGINALLY CALLED ME (ROSA AT 1-800-393-3673X2452) AND REPORT THE RESULTS. SHE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THAT SHE COULD DO BECAUSE THE FORD ENGINEER DECLARED THE PROBLEM TO BE NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS.*AK
WHEN IGNITION KEY IS HALFWAY BETWEEN OFF POSITION AND ON POSITION, THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER CAN BE MOVED INTO ANY GEAR/ WITHOUT HAVING TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. *AK
ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY WOULD NOT TURN TO THE LEFT, PASSED THE CENTER. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WAS DRIVING AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, PEDAL STARTED TO CHATTER. STOPPING DISTANCE WAS DIMINISHED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT ROTORS WERE WARPED. WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY FOR REPAIRS. ELECTRICAL CROSSED WIRES IN ALTERNATOR SYSTEM WERE SMOLDERING. IT WAS REPAIRED. FRONT END WOULD MAKE CLUNKING NOISE WHILE TURNING. NOTHING WAS FOUND. *AK
WHENEVER BRAKING VEHICLE WILL PULL TO RIGHT OR SOMETIMES TO LEFT. *AK CONSUMER STATES SEVERAL DEALERS HAVE ATTEMPTED TO FIX PROBLEM, HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *SLC
CONSUMER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN A FEW TIMES FOR THE CLUTCH. THE DEALER CAN'T SEEM TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WILL BE CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURE TO RETURN THE TRUCK.*AK
WHEN BRAKING STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED /PULSATED, VEHICLE BECAMES UNSTABLE, FELT LIKE IT WAS FLOATING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES. PAD AND SHOES/ LINING WERE REPLACED, AND ROTORS RESURFACED. DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT IF STEERING WHEEL IS HELD LOOSELY OR NOT AT ALL. SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP & WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NO CORRECTIVE SOLUTIONS. *AK *ML
WHEN AT A STOP NOT ABLE TO TURN WHEELS WHILE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. FORD COMPANY INDICATED THAT THIS WAS THE WAY VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. *AK THE DESIGN FLAW IS THE CAUSE FOR STEERING PROBLEM THAT OCCURS WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. A NEW WIDER STANCE, TIE ROD ANGLE AND THE FACT THAT THERE IS MORE WEIGHT IN THE FRONT END THAN ON THE 97 OLDER BODY STYLE VEHICLE. *YH
I WAS TRAVELING HOME FROM WORK ,WHEN I FELT A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN MY DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE, NOT 3SECONDS LATER THE TIRE EXPLODED .I WAS ABLE TO MANTAIN CONTROL OF THE TRUCK AND PULL ONTO THE CENTER MEDIAN OF THE INTERSTATE , WHEN I GOT OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED THE TIRE HAD COMPLETELY BLOWN OFF THE RIM . I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE BECAUSE I COULD NOT CHANGE THE TIRE . AFTER THE SPARE WAS PUT I DROVE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP I HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM , I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT WARANTEED BY FORD BUT BY FIRESTONE , I THEN CONTACTED FIRESTONE TO BE TOLD THAT I MUST HAVE RUN SOMETHING OVER OR HIT A CURB AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT WARANTEE THE TIRE , OR THE DAMAGE DONE TO MY RIM ,FRONT END AND THE DENT CAUSED BY THE EXPLOSION . POWER STEERING FAILS AT LOW SPEEDS,ESPECIALY WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *AK
WILL NOT STEER WHEN HARD OR EMERGENCY BRAKING, OR AT STAND STILL, FORD STATES IT IS NORMAL OPERATING CONDITION AND NO REPAIR ACTION. SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGES 12995. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT REPAIRS, THE COMPLAINT IS WIDE SPREAD. IF ONE IS TOWING A TRAILER, DOWNHILL AND NEEDS TO SLOW OR STOP THERE WILL BE ON STEERING, OR A HARD BRAKING AT A TURN.
WHEN CONSUMER IS TRYING TO PARK ON A HILL AND APPLY THE BRAKES FULLY, CONSUMER CANNOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. SERVICE BULLETIN #99-19-04 WAS ISSUED WHICH STATED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS, AND NO REPAIRS WOULD BE NECESSARY. *AK *YC
REAR SUSPENSION TOO WEAK TO CARRY TRUCK BODY CAUSING OVER TRAVEL ON SPRINGS WHEN DRIVING WITH 500LBS OR MORE IN TRUCK BED. MY TRUCK CAN EQUIPED WITH A SERVICE BODY TOOL BOX.THE TIRES WERE BEGINNING TO RUB TO UNDERSIDE OF TRUCK. FORD DECIDED TO REPLACE SUSPENNISION WITH A LARGER CAPICITY. I WAS STUCK WITH THE INSTALLATION COST OF $600.00 TIRES: MY LEFT FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED A SIDEWALL BLISTER THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL IN JUNE,2000. GENERAL TIRE REPLACED BOTH FRONT TIRES AT NO COST BUT AGAIN I PAID FORD $25 INSTALL COST. NOW A FEW DAYS AGO MY LEFT REAR TIRE DEVELOPED A SIDEWALL BLISTER THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL. I'VE REQUESTED THAT GENERAL TIRE REPLACE ALL TIRES WITH ANOTHER MANUFACTURE BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED. THEY ARE WILLING TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE BUT I DON'T TRUST THERE QUALITY ENOUGH TO RIDE MY FAMILY ON. FORD HAS INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED AT LEAST 20 OR MORE GENERAL TIRES ON THE SAME STYLE TRUCK IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. SIDE WALL BLISTERS ARE VERY DANGERS AND CAN EXPLODE AT ANY TIME ESPECIALLY AS THE TIRE GETS HOTTER. GENERAL TIRE INFORMED ME OVER THE TELEPHONE THAT THEY ARE GETTING A UNUSUALLY HIGH NUMBER OF REPORTS FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR THE SAME TIRE. THESE TIRES MAY BE MISSING THE NYLON PLY IN THE SIDE WALL OR THE COMPONET COMPOUND USED FOR ADHESION IS DEFECTIVE.( DOT NUMBER: ADOR1JC289 TIRE SIZE: LT23585R16 )
WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELTS ARE IN USE, THEY WOULD TIGHTEN UP FOR NO REASON. WOULD HAVE NO WARNING WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN. THE LOCKING MECHANISM ON THE SEAT WOULD FAIL TO RELEASE THE BELT. WOULD HAVE CUT THE BELT TO RELEASE INDIVIDUAL. BRAKES WERE USED AT TIME OF TIGHTENING INCIDENT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER & MECHANIC ORDERED A NEW BELT SYSTEM FOR REAR OF VEHICLE. *AK *YC

FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRES (P265/75R16) ARE EXPERIENCING TREAD SEPARATION, THE TREAD IS WEARING AT ONLY 10500 MILES. *SLC

WHEN CROSSING MULTIPLE RAILROAD TRACKS,IGNITION SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. MANAGED TO COAST PAST TRACKS BEFORE COMING TO A STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD. TOW TRUCK DRIVER (LARRY'S TOWING 281-342-981, ROSENBERG TX) SAID THIS WAS THE SECOND FORD TRUCK(MODEL YEAR 2000, THAT HE HAD TOWED WITH SAME PROBLEM, JUST STOPPED RUNNING. THIS PROBLEM WHICH COULD EASILY HAD LED TO FATAL ACCIDENT WHEN STOPPED ON RAIL LINE IS APPARENTLY WELL KNWN TO TOW TRUCK DRIVERS , THUS MUST ALSO BE KNOWN TO FORD, BUT THEY HAVE NO RECALL ETC.2 *AK

WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT INDICATION. DEALER STATED THAT TRANSMISSION WAS BLOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
CONSUMER HEARS A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, AND WHEN FRONT SUSPENSION GOES UP AND DOWN ,IT WILL SQUEAK. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE OR LOCATE DEFECT. *AK

BOTH MY RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED SIDEWALL FAILURES-ONE AT UNDER 12000 MILES AND ONE AT UNDER 15000 MILES. TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED LARGE SIDEWALL BUBBLES OR CONVEXITIES OF AROUND 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND 1 INCH IN HEIGHT. FORD DOES NOT WARRANTY THE TIRES SO I'VE HAD TO DEAL WITH GENERAL TIRE. A PERSON AT THE 800 PHONE NUMBER FOR GENERAL TIRE MENTIONED THAT THIS COULD BE TWO ISOLATED DEFECTS, PERHAPS A BAD BATCH, OR PERHAPS THE TIRE SELECTED BY FORD MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH MY CONCERNS, AS THE TRUCK HAS A DIESEL MOTOR WHICH IS QUITE HEAVY, AND BOTH FRONT TIRES DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM EARLY IN THE TIRES' TREADWEAR. ONE TIRE DEALER SAID HE'S SEEN IT BEFORE, SO I AM CONCERNED THAT THE TIRE CANNOT STAND UP TOT HE WEIGHT OF THE DIESEL ENGINE. FORD SAYS TO CONTACT GENERAL TIRE, AND GENERAL TIRE WILL ONLY WARRANTY THE INDIVIDUAL TIRE AS IT FAILS. NOBODY SEEMS TO HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WARRANTING THAT THE TIRE IS APPROPRIATE FOR THE VEHICLE. THIS MAY BE TWO RARE AND ISOLATED INCIDENCES, BUT I FEEL THAT 100% FRONT TIRE FAILURE IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT WARRANTS LOOKING INTO. I'D BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THESE TIRES ARE REPLACED ON FORD DIESEL-POWERED TRUCKS, BUT ONLY GENERAL TIRE KNOWS THE ANSWER.*AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: LT235/85R1 )
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE GEARS SHIFTS IN AND OUT OF NUETRAL UNEXPECTEDLY. RECENTLY ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 40MPH WHICH CAUSED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. DRIVER HAD TO PUT GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, AND START VEHICLE BACK UP. AN HOUR LATER , VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP. DEALER HAS VEHICLE CURRENTLY. *AK
I HAVE THE SAME TIRES THAT ARE BEING RECALLED ON THE EXCURSION AND I WAS WONDERING IF THEY ARE THE SAME AS ON MY TRUCK. MY TIRES SEEM TO HAVE LUMPS IN THE SIDE WALLS. IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY BEEN RECALLED, SOMEONE MAY WANT TO LOOK AT THEM BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SEEM TO ME THAT WOULD BE VERY SAFE. PLEASE GIVE SOME SORT OF FEEDBACK ON THIS. *AK

I TOOK MY TRUCK TO BIG O TIRES IN SONORA FOR THE FIRST TIRE ROTATION AT 11,600 MILES. THE SERVICEPERSON TOLD ME I HAD "SCALPING" DAMAGE TO MY TIRES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A HEAVY LOAD NOR HAVE I TOWED ANYTHING. I KEEP THE PROPER TIRE PRESSURE IN THE TIRES AND CHECK THE PRESSURE REGULARLY. I FEEL THE FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL A/T TIRES MAY HAVE A DEFECTIVE PROBLEM RESULTING IN THE DAMAGE. THE OEM SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE VEHICLE REBOUND 2-3 CYCLES AFTER HITTING A BUMP AND CAUSED THE TIRES TO DEVELOP MODERATE CUPPING, THE POSITION OF THE DRIVERS SIDE OEM SHOCK ABSORBER TOP BOLT HAD A SHARP EDGE AND WAS RUBBING A HOLE IN THE OUTER JACKET OF THE HYDRAULIC HOSE EXPOSING THE INNER BRAID, CONSUMER EXPLORED THE POSSIBILITY OF REPOSITIONING THE HOSE BUT A HOSE SUPPORT CLAMP WOULD NOT ALLOW SUCH POSITIONING.
