The vehicle just stated honking the horn , no key was in the ignition and no one was driving truck
The contact owns a 2001 Ford F-350. The contact stated after having parked his vehicle after a short drive, the contact noticed a large cloud of smoke issuing from under the hood from the driver's side towards the front end of the vehicle. The contact stated that he opened the hood, disconnected the battery, and blew the smoke out of the engine compartment with an air compressor he had on hand. The contact called a local dealer who refused to diagnose the vehicle unless the contact called the manufacturer to have the manufacturer authorize service from the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired; however, the vehicle was still drivable. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 162,000.
Was driving down the rd came to stop light and I had nothing for breaks. I quickly pumped brake and got it to slowdown and made the turn. Went to pull into hospital and had no breaks even tried pumping it again and still had no breaks.
The bracket on the passenger side that is welded to the bottom of the front axle is rusted completely through to the point that the u-bolts that secure the leaf springs to the axle have pulled through the bracket. It appears to be a significant safety issue due to the fact the front axle is no longer secured to the vehicle.
FRONT SEAT BELT UNBUCKLES ITSELF. HAPPENS MOSTLY IN MOTION. TRUCK DOES NOT SHOW RECALLS OPEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 FORD F-350. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A COWORKER INFORMED HIM THAT THE FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE BUT WAS UNABLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. STATE FARM WAS CONTACTED TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A TOW LOT AND DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT PRIOR TO THE FIRE HE NOTICED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AS A CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AS VIN WAS INCLUDED AND RECALL WAS NOT SERVICED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 109,000.
WINDOWS ,WIPERS AND RADIO COME ON ABOUT A MINUTE LATTER AFTER STARTING THE TRUCK.
SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT AND IS FAULTY SET FEELS LOOSE FROM CAB.
DRIVER SEAT BELT WILL NOT STAY BUCKLED. WHILE DRIVING, I NOTICE THAT THIS BELT SPONTANEOUSLY UNLATCHES LEAVING ME UNPROTECTED. THIS HAPPENS QUITE FREQUENTLY AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER HOW I OPERATE THE BUCKLE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION DURING ANY KIND OF DRIVING..

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIPER MOTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LITHIA FORD (2833 WASHBURN WAY, KLAMATH FALLS, OR 97601, PHONE: (541) 205-4501), BUT IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 01V258000 (VISIBILITY). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-350. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON ANY INCLINE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOST POWER, LOCKED UP, AND DID NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP, POWER STEERING GEAR BOX, AND CHECKED ALL COMPONENTS IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,400.
MY SPARE TIRE FELL OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. UPON INSPECTION THE CABLE THAT HELD THE TIRE UNDER THE TRUCK WAS FRAYED AND BROKE.
TRUCK WAS PARKED FOR 2 DAYS SINCE LAST DRIVEN IN MY DRIVEWAY 5FT FROM HOUSE. WENT TO WORK AT NIGHT IN MY OTHER VEHICLE, CAME HOME AND STARTED TO GET MY KIDS READY FOR SCHOOL. NO VISIBLE SIGNS AS I PASSED IT ON MY WAY INTO MY RESIDENTS. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER NEXT THING I KNOW A PASSING OFF DUTY FIRE FIGHTER IS BANGING ON MY FRONT DOOR, AS I GO TO MEET HIM I SEE MY TRUCK ENGULFED IN FLAMES. TRUCK IS A TOTAL LOSS WITH FIRE PROTRUDING FROM HOOD AND FENDERS REACHING INTO THE CAB. FIRE DEPARTMENT FINALLY PUT FLAMES OUT AFTER MINOR DAMAGE TO OTHER NEAR BYE VEHICLES. LOOKS AS FIRE STARTED UNDER HOOD NEAR MASTER CYLINDER. TRUCK WAS REPAIRED BY FORD FOR RECALL IN 06 DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. IT APPEARS THE SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS IN NEW SWITCHES OR REPAIR WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY. JUST CONTACTED FORD TODAY ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS IT JUST HAPPENED FEB,2 2016. IN THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING VEHICLE SERVICE RECORDS AS I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WORKS FOR FORD. SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT ON 12/22/14, THEN ANOTHER ONE BLEW OUT WHEN I PICKED UP THE TRUCK ON 12/29/14. HAVE HAD BOTH FIXED WITH INSERTS. *JS
I SLID ON BLACK ICE COASTING DOWN A SMALL HILL ON THE ROADWAY DOING 35 MPH IN A 45 MPH ZONE. THE MOMENTUM & WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE MADE THE VEHICLE VEER OFF THE ROAD INTO A PINE TREE. DESPITE MY BEST EFFORTS TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS & STEER IN THE DIRECTION WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS SLIDING (AS WE WERE ALWAYS TAUGHT TO DO), I HAD NO CONTROL OVER WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS GOING. I HIT A PINE TREE RATHER HARD. MY FRIEND WAS TRAVELING BEHIND ME & WATCHED IT HAPPEN. I HIT (BRUISED) MY ARM & KNEE BUT DIDN'T REQUIRE AN AMBULANCE. THE FRAME, FENDER, HOOD & HEADLIGHT ALL GOT CRUMPLED. LUCKILY THE STEEL FRAME, HEAVY LARGE TOW HOOK IN FRONT & STEEL BUMPER TOOK MOST OF THE FORCE CAUSING THOSE PARTS & THE STEEL COMPLETE FRAME (INCLUDING THE LEAF SPRINGS UNDERNEATH) TO CRUMPLE UNDER IMPACT. THE PINE TREE WOUND UP EMBEDDED IN & ALL AROUND THAT HOOK & GRILL. HOWEVER, THE FORCE OF SUCH A CRASH SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THE 2 FRONT AIRBAGS. NEITHER ONE DID DEPLOY! MY QUESTION IS, WHY DIDN'T IT?! THE IMPACT SURELY WAS ONE THAT SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AN AIRBAG! ARE THEY DEFECTIVE?! LUCKILY I DIDN'T SUSTAIN GREAT INJURIES OR GET KILLED. HOW ARE WE TO TRUST THE SAFETY OF VEHICLES WHEN THE VERY PARTS THAT ARE INSTALLED DON'T PERFORM THEIR JOB? WE TRUST THE VEHICLES TO BE RELIABLE & PROTECT US. THAT'S WHY WE CHOOSE CERTAIN VEHICLES & PAY BIG BUCKS TO HAVE THE SAFETY FEATURES WE WANT IN THEM & TO PROTECT US. IRONICALLY, THIS WASN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. A FAMILY MEMBER'S FORD PICKUP'S AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED EITHER WHEN THEY HAD A FRONTAL CRASH. WHAT IS FORD DOING ABOUT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES' AIRBAGS NOT FUNCTIONING?! IN ORDER TO SAVE LIVES A VEHICLE MUST BE SAFE BY BEING IN GOOD WORKING ORDER! WE PAY FOR SAFETY & EVERYTHING TO BE WORKING PROPERLY YET ARE FINDING OUT FORD VEHICLES AREN'T BUILT AS FORD TOUGH AS THEY CLAIM! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND INDEPENDENTLY MOVED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHO REPLACED THE STABILIZING BAR HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.

#3 SPARK PLUG BOWLED OUT AT 60 M P H TRUCK ONLY HAS 33,390 MILES ON IT. IT IS THE FACTORY SPARK PLUGS 5.4 L TRITON. THIS TRUCK IS A 2001 MODEL HAS VERY FEW MILES BECAUSE IT IS NOT DROVE FAR AT ANY ONE TIME AND THE UP KEEP ON IT IS TOP NOTCH. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFAULT AND AS MUCH AS THESE TRUCK COST FORD SHOULD STAND BEHIND THIS FIX!!!!! *TR

THE CONTACT CHECKED THE FUEL TANK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE LINER OF THE FUEL TANK WAS DELAMINATING AND CLOGGING THE TANK. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT OBTAIN A FIBERGLASS TANK. THE CONTACT EMAILED THE MANUFACTURER BUT HAD NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 67,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 212,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 237,800.

SPARK PLUGS COMING OUT OF ENGINE. IT HAS FAILED ABOUT FOUR TIMES ON THIS TRUCK AND ONE ON ANOTHER ONE OF OUR TRUCKS. COSTS ABOUT $3900 TO GET FIXED. BOUGHT NEW ENGINE BECAUSE OF PROBLEM AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON NEW ENGINE. *TR

THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER; HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT SEND OUT AN INVESTIGATOR OR PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL. THE CONTACT SOLD THE VEHICLE AND LATER RECEIVED TWO SAFETY RECALL NOTICES. HE BELIEVES THAT THE RECALL REPAIR IS THE DEALER'S RESPONSIBILITY SINCE HE SOLD THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY WERE ADAMANT THAT IT NEEDED A NEW MOTOR. THE PURCHASE DATE, RECALL NUMBER, AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 175,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AN ODOR OF EXHAUST WAS DETECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND EXHAUST WAS LEAKING BETWEEN THE ENGINE HEAD AND MANIFOLD UNDER THE HOOD. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE MANIFOLD BOLTS SHEERED OFF DUE TO HEAT. NEW BOLTS NEEDED TO BE DRILLED ON THE MANIFOLD.

I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY FOR ABOUT 20 MILES AT 65 MPH (THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 70 MPH) WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE (GOODYEAR WRANGLER AT/S LT285/75R16) EXPLODED. IT RIPPED THE FUEL FILLER NECK OFF OF THE TRUCK BENT THE REAR BUMPER AND BENT THE SIDE OF MY TRUCK IN MANY PLACES. THESE TIRES HAD MORE THEN HALF TREAD LEFT ON THEM AND THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I WASN'T PULLING A LOAD OR DRIVING TOO FAST. FUEL SPILLED OUT OF THE GAS TANK AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE. THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON IF THIS TYPE OF THINK HAPPENS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE AFTER MARKET RIM ON THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE SPLIT IN HALF. THE SPLIT OCCURRED LEAVING TWO CRESCENT PIECES OF THE RIM. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE RIM HAD ALSO SPLIT TWO YEARS PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE. THE FIRST RIM WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW RIM, BUT THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THE SECOND RIM SHOULD BE WELDED BACK TOGETHER. THE WELD RACING INC., SCORPIO RIMS WERE ON A 2001 FORD F350. *AK UPDATED 6/19/2006 - THE CONSUMER HAS REPLACED ALL FOUR RIMS. THE NEW RIMS ARE BY ANOTHER MANUFACTURER. *NM
2001 F350 LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH. *TS THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND WRAPPED AROUND THE HUB CAUSING IT TO LOCK UP (KUMHO VENTURE TIRE). *NM
DT: 2001 FORD F350. HAD TOW BLOW OUTS WITH TREADS FALLING OFF PATHFINDER RADIAL ATR TIRES THAT WERE ON VEHICLE WHEN THE CONSUMER PURCHASED IT. CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TIRES. HAD NOT CONTACTED MANUFACTURER YET. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS ONLY PROPERTY DAMAGE. WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRES IT DENTED BOTH OFREAR FENDERS, BUSTED TAIL LIGHTS, AND PUT A HOLE IN FUEL TANK. M MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS 65 PSI. CHECK TIRE PRESSURE AND ROTATED THE TIRES. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 15000 MILES ONIT, AND I NOTICED .VIBRATION ON ONE OF THE TIRES BEFORE THE BLOW OUT OCCURRED. THE BLOW OUTS OCCURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. IDID NOT NOTICE ANY ABNORMAL BULGING IN THE TIRES.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V388000 CONCERNING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN AND THE MODEL TYPE. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT HER OWN EXPENSE. *AK
DT: THE CLUTCH PIN BROKE COMPLETELY OFF. THE CLUTCH PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR, AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER TALKED TO FORD AND THEY SAID THAT THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THERE WAS NO WAY TO MOVE THE VEHICLE EXCEPT TOWING IT. THE CONSUMER HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS TWO OTHER TIMES. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE BUSHING WAS OVER THE PIN. WHOM EVER WELDED THE PIN, MADE IT HARD IN THE BACK AND AS A RESULT IT FRACTURED AND BROKE COMPLETELY OFF. THE PIN WAS WELDED IN CROOKED WHEN IT WAS MANUFACTURED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F350. THE VEHICLE HAS BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL A/T, SIZE LT265/75R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. AFTER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS FLAT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRE, HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT STATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER, HE NOTICED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE HAD A BUBBLE ON THE TREAD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MONTHS LATER, THE TREAD SEPARATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE. AS OF SEPTEMBER 12, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE TIRE. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY. DRIVER HIT THE GUARD RAIL. NO INJURIES REPORTED. DRIVER NOTICED THE RIGHT SIDE WHEEL SHEARED OFF. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE WHEEL AND HUB ASSEMBLY V NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK STEERING FELT JERKY AT TIMES. ABS LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH BOARD. THE CONSUMER HEARD METAL TO METAL WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND GOT OUT TO SEE THE FRONT LEFT TIRE DETATCHED FROM THE VEHICLE. *TC
WE HAVE REPLACE 4 CRANK TRIGGER SENSORS ON OUR 2001 F350 SUPER DUTY SINCE WE GOT IT. YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK AT 70 MILES AN HOUR ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT STARTED TO SHAKE. I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT SO I LIFTED AND GOT OVER TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY, BUT THE TRUCK KEPT SHAKING AND THE SPEED WAS DROPPING FAST. I TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND COULD DO NOTHING EXCEPT TRY TO GET IT OFF THE FREEWAY. IT STALLED SO I PULLED OFF. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES IN 16 DEGREE TEMPERATURES I TRIED TO RESTART. IT DID RESTART AND I GOT UP A RAMP BUT THE TRUCK WAS CHUGGING ALL THE WAY AND WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 15 MILES PER HOUR. THIS TRUCK HAS QUIT IN THE WORST PLACES WITH NO WARNING THAT THE CRANK TRIGGER SENSOR WAS GOING OUT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE BEEN NOT ONLY STRANDED BUT IN A DANGEROUS PLACE. THIS TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED AND HAS HAD MAINTENANCE DONE REGULARLY. FORD AND INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER (MAKER OF THE PART THAT DIES) SAYS THAT THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY OTHERS LIKE THIS. BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF FRIENDS WHO DRIVE THE SAME TRUCK AND JUST ABOUT ALL OF THEM HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. WE ALL CARRY SPARE CRANK TRIGGER SENSORS AND 10 MM SOCKETS AND DRIVES TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHEN IT HAPPENS. IT IS REALLY AN ISSUE WHEN YOU HAVE TO CARRY SPARE PARTS WITH YOU BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL GO OUT. THE PART WAS IN THE TRUCK LESS THAN 200 MILES WHEN IT WENT. WE REPLACE THE SAME PART DURING CHRISTMAS AND WE DON'T DRIVE THE TRUCK EVERY DAY. *JB
THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARD FROM AN INCLINE WITH THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE HIT SEVERAL TREES BEFORE STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE BROKE. *AK *SC

WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT AND VIBRATED. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND VEHICLE HAD WORK DONE ON THE BRAKES ON 9 OCCASIONS, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. DEALERSHIP WAS SAYING THAT THEY WILL DO NOTHING ELSE. VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
